This was my first time here; I came to meet a friend. I had been told it was quite good, but pricey. Well..for starters, the server, Serena was helpful and allowed us the extra time to figure out what we wanted. Coffee was good, and hey some ice water with lemon. Small things, small touches--not bad. I didn't see what I wanted on the menu (I probably wasn't looking hard enough!), so I described the type and kind of breakfast that I wanted. The server knew the menu well and happened to show me, on the menu, what I wanted. Service was fast and the food delicious. I wanted a more traditional breakfast and that is what I got. Like others have said, customizing what you want it not a problem. On the way out, the cashier made sure that I enjoyed my meal--it was not simply a matter of being ring up. Definitely recommended--and FYI, it is not pricey, quite reasonable in fact.
I haven't been to the First Watch in Lawrence for some time now, but spent the weekend in KC for a bridal show, so we had breakfast here before heading to the bridal show. It was packed on a Sunday morning around 10 (shocking, I know). It was an unseasonably nice day, so we sat outside and enjoyed the sunshine until our table was ready. Only a 20 minute wait, so that made me happy! The only minor complaint I have is that it was REALLY hot in there! Too warm and almost nauseating. I chose the far west omelet and it was excellent. I also like that they left a pitcher of water and a pot of coffee on our table. It was nice not having to wait for a refill.
There is a reason that First Watch is packed every Saturday and Sunday morning. Because it's amazing! And worth the wait! I love the Fairway location. There is not a bad seat in the house. The servers are incredibly friendly and chipper. You can get in and out fast (well, once you make it through the wait and to your table) or stay and enjoy your coffee and paper as long as you'd like. The food is simple, classic, American style breakfast food. Everything is fresh and cooked to order. And there are many lighter options available on the menu, so you won't leave feeling like you've just blown a day's worth of calories on your morning meal! Unless that is your plan...bc it can be accomplished, too. This is one of my go-to breakfast joints. I always leave satisfied!

Went here for a second time after vowing to not return. Ugh! First problem is ambience- Freezing cold dining room in the winter, I ate with my coat on. Tables and chairs were dirty, wiped them down myself. Music was blaring at 11am, I couldn't even have a conversation. Service- Waiter dicked around in the back instead of wiping tables. Came over to asked us what we had ordered at the register. Food- Even if you are dining in, salad comes in a plastic container with a container of dressing. I would love to have a plate and have my salad tossed in dressing. Pizza remains somewhat bland and has more sauce than cheese. This place was full of families with 1-3 kids. Granted, it is probably the perfect place for a kid, who just hears the word pizza and they are satisfied. For an adult, I want a little more. Here's is the deal- KC is overrun with pizza joints. They are a dime a dozen. If you want to do pizza in KC (again) do it at the very highest level. They could take a tip from Spin on organization and cleanliness and a tip from Pizza Bella and from Grinders on flavor.
The 5 for 5 is where it's at . . . and please do yourself a favor and get that 50 cent tub of Ranch on the side. They make it from scratch with buttermilk - I mean that stuff is like liquid gold - I wish I could bathe in it. Dipping their crust in it is one of my simple joys in my life. Also, if your feeling adventurous try the cream cheese as a topping, it's decadent!
Pretty good pizza by the slice, it's very similar to what I remember Papa Keno's being in Lawrence. The OP Papa Keno's was never as good as the Lawrence location... I've had the meatball grinder and it is pretty decent too. My wife loves the veggie pizza and son loves the pepperoni pizza so I tag along to pay the bill on a regular basis. Go figure... I've tried quite a few different pizzas and sandwiches and everything was pretty good. I wouldn't stop in by myself but as a cheap lunch location with the family, Pizza 51 is pretty dang good...

Ahi tuna wontons, Asian wings, and artichoke dip! Yum! I only go to this location because I believe it to be the best! It is however a chain, but a chain that represents the local community is ok by me. You know what to expect and the service is always friendly and super fast. The location specifically is great! Fairway is a beautiful part of town right off the plaza and you can go into little shops near the shopping center for browsing or (my favorite) enjoying Russel Stover's too. Houlihans has a great menu for business lunches or just a quick fix that isn't something you would regret eating later. I work near the plaza so this is definitely a go to for something I always crave (wings) that I can get in and out and never be dissappointed. and who doesnt love free chocolate chip cookies when you're done with lunch??
I would have to say Houlihans is one of my all time favorite restaurants to dine at; the fairway location is the closest to my house. I decided to stop in for dinner. Tonight must of been one those odd nights. The restaurant was not crazy busy at 8:25 pm. I thought I would stop in real quick before I had to go to bed for work. This visit got off to a rough start. I waited at least 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge me to take my drink order. I don't usually ever have this issue. I went to the host stand and asked to be reseated. They sat me in Destiny's section where I was taken good care of. Management stopped by to apologize for my previous wait. The food was delicious and hot. They made up for that little speed bump quickly.
We go for dinner every couple of weeks. I always get the same meal: 4 oz filet. It comes with 2 sides and salad. Most places you have to pay extra for the salad. And, it's a great salad. It's a favorite because the prices and food are very good. I think it's around $15 for my steak dinner. They have happy hour apps for $4, but I can't remember the hours. Service is hit or miss. They seem to have high staff turnover. And the apple pie is the best I've ever had!! I think this chain started in KC. I remember Tom Houlihan's on the plaza years ago. It is headquartered here in case you prefer local restaurants (which we typically do).
