Diabetics at Pizza Hut

Pizza is neither a great meal nor the worst for diabetes. All you need is some fact check and monitoring while ordering your pizza. Diabetics can opt for thin crust or skinny pizza at Pizza Hut and avoid the cheese topping to cut down on the excess fat and sodium. If you have diabetes, then ensure to check your portion size when you order a pizza. One or max. two slices are enough. You can also avoid meat if possible and go for wings as a meat option.

Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for Diabetics:

You must avoid Meat Lovers Pizza with Original Pan Crust as it contains over 1000mg sodium and will add 470 calories in your meal. You should also skip Super Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice which is too high in sodium and fat. Chicken wings are often tempting but you must control and restrict yourself from ordering Traditional Honey BBQ Bone-in Wings as it can add up to your sugar levels if you eat too many. On average, a person orders or consumes six chicken wings pieces in a day.

Sides must be avoided at all costs especially if it's Bacon Cheddar Fries with Ranch Dipping Cup for its high sodium content. You must also avoid New York Style Cheesecake with Applesauce as dessert as one slice of this dessert item contains 86g sugar. Pizza Hut also offers other Italian dishes such as Pasta. However, you must skip Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and Meatballs and Garlic Bread as it is too high in sodium and sugar.

Went here for a second time after vowing to not return. Ugh! First problem is ambience- Freezing cold dining room in the winter, I ate with my coat on. Tables and chairs were dirty, wiped them down myself. Music was blaring at 11am, I couldn't even have a conversation. Service- Waiter dicked around in the back instead of wiping tables. Came over to asked us what we had ordered at the register. Food- Even if you are dining in, salad comes in a plastic container with a container of dressing. I would love to have a plate and have my salad tossed in dressing. Pizza remains somewhat bland and has more sauce than cheese. This place was full of families with 1-3 kids. Granted, it is probably the perfect place for a kid, who just hears the word pizza and they are satisfied. For an adult, I want a little more. Here's is the deal- KC is overrun with pizza joints. They are a dime a dozen. If you want to do pizza in KC (again) do it at the very highest level. They could take a tip from Spin on organization and cleanliness and a tip from Pizza Bella and from Grinders on flavor.

The 5 for 5 is where it's at . . . and please do yourself a favor and get that 50 cent tub of Ranch on the side. They make it from scratch with buttermilk - I mean that stuff is like liquid gold - I wish I could bathe in it. Dipping their crust in it is one of my simple joys in my life. Also, if your feeling adventurous try the cream cheese as a topping, it's decadent!

Pretty good pizza by the slice, it's very similar to what I remember Papa Keno's being in Lawrence. The OP Papa Keno's was never as good as the Lawrence location... I've had the meatball grinder and it is pretty decent too. My wife loves the veggie pizza and son loves the pepperoni pizza so I tag along to pay the bill on a regular basis. Go figure... I've tried quite a few different pizzas and sandwiches and everything was pretty good. I wouldn't stop in by myself but as a cheap lunch location with the family, Pizza 51 is pretty dang good...

Great atmosphere and pizza! Looked like an old gas station, but tasted much better than we imagined it would. Will go back and try another kind of pie. The only thing I didn't like was the small plastic cup that held my small amount of wine. I guess I should have tried one of the many beers that they serve. Good Job!

We've been here a few times because we like the pizza. Prior to the last time we ate here, the service was mediocre, but friendly. We went a few weeks ago and the guy at the front counter was a dick. My husband ordered a soda and this guy put a kiddie cup in front of him. When my husband said he wanted a large, we got a big sigh, he threw the kiddie cup in the trash, and smacked the large cup on the counter. We just looked at each other like, seriously?! The guys in the kitchen should be concerned about this mustache wax-wearing poser because he's negatively impacting tips for everyone in the place. Not sure we'll be back and definitely not if Asshole Johnny is working the front counter. Update - it's February 2014 and we haven't been back.

I ordered a pizza late in the afternoon. No other customers, floors dirty, tables dirty, person working the counter was messing with his friend's cell phone. Pizza was just OK. I prefer D'Bronx crust. Nothing special stood out about this pizza. However, I will say that it is way better than Poppa John's Pizza...which isn't saying much.

Why is this pizza as good as it gets? Because it satisfies the thin crust lovers and the thick crust lovers at the same time. Because the people who like more sauce will like this pizza as much as the pizza lovers who like less sauce. They have achieved that pizza balance that is so difficult to do...hence the plethora of pizzerias across the world. I could only wish for a pizzeria like this in my neighborhood. We tried the veggie lovers and the traditional meat pizza with mushrooms, onions and olives. They were both fantastic and even better when you smashed some of the meat onto the veggie slice or some of the fresh broccoli onto the meat slice. And who would have thought of broccoli on pizza? But it works. This pizza made me want more. The service was nice and I assure you that even though there is an old gas pump right outside, this place won't give you gas!

This was good but just didn't hit the spot. Great portion sizes for price. The sausage is very large chunks with lots of crumbles of sausage over powered the rest of pizza. Not much sauce on it with a slight tangy taste.

I must say, I truly love their pizza. Occasionally, Minsky's wins when we call for 'za, but I really think 51 is up there. Make sure not to order their large unless you mean it. It doesn't even fit in the fridge. They only get the reduction of stars for the times I have dined in versus ordered delivery. The staff sometimes seems...irritated?...to me. The whole - order-at-a-counter-then-switch-to-table service is not my favorite to begin with, so perhaps that is the issue. And while I felt bad for her and it was probably important to mention in order to excuse the slow service, our server the last time mentioned she would be back with us as soon as possible because she was ours, and the only, server. There were easily 15 tables. Even with a world-class server and the counter/waiter setup, you can't keep water glasses full with that ratio. I just think I also just remembered one time we ordered delivery including fountain sodas. My root beer arrived half empty and they didn't comp it...or do anything. While the delivery guy might have had his hands tied, I still thought it was tacky.

So happy with this place, either location. I really like the Fairway location because it has that neighborhood feel, being tucked into a residential area. The staff is always great here, and the pizza is so good. Our first time in we had toppings of Pepperoni and Feta and that's been the go to ever since. Their breadsticks and housemade salad dressings are delicious too. Most pizza places have something signature, (Waldo has their St. Louis thin, Minksy's has thick fresh mozzerella), but what I've noticed about Pizza 51 is it isn't necessarily signature, just good overall pizza. It's like a perfected version of making pizza at home.

This is my go to place for Pizza. Either this one or the original near UMKC. The pizza is decent, which is about as good as a review I will give a piece of pizza, because it isn't like a steak or something. It's pizza, just try not to screw it up and I think I would eat it. There is just a few things I wish they would improve upon. 1) Consistency. I would love it if every 3rd time my pizza was not overcooked. 2) Service/wait staff. While most of the staff is friendly, there is a habit for the wait staff to play ping pong with the guests. I'm talking about not even stopping while talking to you and not listening for the answering before moving onto the next person. But it isn't a deal breaker, again it's pizza, I don't need a lot.

Don't know much about their locations and so-called ambiance, but I had the pleasure of tasting their pizza today for carry-out! I got the meat-lovers and it had to be the best Midwest pizza I have tasted in my 62 years! JMHO. It was fantastic

Love Pizza 51!! I had been to the original one near the plaza a dozen times and I was so happy when they opened one closer to me! Their breadsticks with both and pizza by the slice are delicious and a great value. Like other reviews have mentioned, it is similar to Papa Kenos. I would have given it 5 stars, but their house salad dressing disappointed me. There was way too much herb flavor, so overpowering that I could not eat my salad. I tried a calzone the other day and it was one of the best calzones I have ever had, layered with ricotta, mozzarella, and toppings of your choice. It was pretty thin, which I like. Other pizza places over stuff their calzones! I definitely recommend Pizza 51.

  • Drake W.

I ate there for the first time last night. I must say it's one of the best pizza places in the KC metro. The best part of the pizza is the crust and the light sauce. I had a veggie pizza with spinach, green pepper, artichokes, and black olives. I don't like mushrooms, but I did notice that they use canned mushrooms. They also use canned spinach, which I personally prefer on a pizza because it's easier to eat. I like places that embrace other local fare. This place had a wide selection of Boulevard beer (Single Wide IPA on tap), as well as KC Rotisserie coffee. Nestled in a neighborhood on Mission Road, the atmosphere has a clean, industrious look that's similar to Beer Kitchen in Westport or Chipotle restaurants. Overall, great pizza and good beer selection. I'll definitely be returning.

Great pizza, but the staff are RUDE!!! Every single time I go in there, they are so RUDE! They throw your table markers at you, slam cups around, and scowl at you. Especially the tall guy with the beard (which one, right?)

Okay, hear me out on this: the beef pizza is like your school cafeteria, only delicious. Remember those square pizzas they served in school, with the tiny crumbly beef? You know you do. Only those buttery rolls served with chicken nuggets could beat square pizza day. What was it about the pizzas that made them so good? Don't answer, because I'm gonna tell you: that tiny, happy-textured, spicy beef. Pizza 51 West takes that amazing beef and adds it to a slightly sweet sauce, fresh cheese, and rustic, oven-y crust. Run, don't walk, to revisit your childhood at this awesome local pizza place.

Great pizza and it looks like an awesome spot to bring the family for eating out on the patio. Just do NOT blindly order a large pizza from them or you'll have to bring the truck to pick it up and then have leftovers for a week.

Pizza 51 West is a great place to have a late breakfast, an early dinner and anything in between! I've gone here so many times I've lost count, I have probably had everything in the menu. The employees always have a great attitude and are amazing at checking up on you and getting anything you might need. I'm conclusion if I could eat there every day, I would!

This is an awesome place for families. I can tell a lot of Fairway families walk here to enjoy pizza. Really friendly staff, excellent pizza and a nice little addition to the Fairway area that I think was really needed! Reccommended for families with small children!

If you want greasy pizza don't eat here! This is fresh crust with fresh toppings that aren't drowning in cheese. They make delicious green salad dressing in house from herbs, vinegar and olive oil. The breadsticks are fabulous with any additional toppings you want on them. Make sure you try their calzones. The crust is to die for and you can customize your ingredients. All around fabulous menu items. Very nice addition to the Fairway area!!

The best way to describe Pizza 51 is "hm, not bad." I've eaten here 3 times and I don't think I'll be rushing back, with all of the other great KC pizza options. I find their pizza to be bland, typically with a burnt crust, which is the majority of the taste. The sandwiches are not much more flavorful than you might get at a QuickTrip, and I will say the salads are pretty good with great dressing selections. One night I called in an order for a pickup and asked for the large pizza and a salad. When I went to pickup and sign the bill, the total was almost $50. I asked what that was all about, and the girl was fairly rude, said "well you ordered the large..." and proceeded to bring out a pizza box the size of a friggin' wagon wheel. I couldn't even fit it in my car, I had to opt for the trunk. What's bizarre to me is I'd asked on the phone if the salad was enough for 2 people, that might trigger a conversation to mention that the "large" pizza is enough to feed an elementary school. So, for those of you about to order (and don't have a tape measure handy) 26" is a comically large pizza. If I owned Pizza 51, I'd think about renaming the large to something like "jumbo" or "XL" or perhaps "A huge waste of money."

I love this spot! I just moved here from Chicago and finally have an amazing pizza spot that is amazing. My parents come and meet me here for dinner and we always have a blast. Just recently my boyfriend and I had brunch here which was AMAZING! Lindsay rocks!! (Thanks Lindsay!!!) :-)! She always is SO attentive and remembers me and my family. Absolutely love their Highway pizza by the slice. And don't forget to grab a yummy cupcake when u leave. Love this place!

  • Susan C.

Not bad not bad. You can get 5 toppings slide that will set you back a mere $5.99. My cousins said that the calzones were too cheesy, but if that's your cup of tea, then go forth. The staff is pleasant and they keep the tables clean for all the patrons as it seems like a pretty busy place, especially on the weekends and over the lunch hour. They make each pizza as they are ordered so be patient, caterpillars, it may take a minute for your food to come out.

LOVED Pizza 51! Cool dining area in an old gas station with both indoor and outdoor seating. The pizza is somewhere in between thin and thick-we had their meat pizza and I really loved the crumbly sausage they use. We also had a pizza with cream cheese, chicken, and green peppers and this was AWESOME...highly recommend this combo! The cheese sticks looked pretty great and the salads were pretty large....just like the pizzas! Big fan, would definitely return the next time we're in KC!

Decent pizza. Inconsistent. I would rather have Little Caesar's Hot N Ready. Sometimes good, sometimes overcooked, sometimes not enough sauce, sometimes not enough cheese.

The pizza is middle of the road. Love the NY style, but nothing special about the flavor. I really want to love this place. Local... Not a chain... These are a plus.
