This place is super yummy. The staff is very friendly and they have great prices. We had the Mexicali burrito and carne asada tacos. Both were very generous portions. We also shared a house salad which was one of the best house salads I have had.

Good food, but mediocre decor. Have never been disappointed with the food or wait staff.

We eat here on a regular basis. The staff is friendly and competent. I always get the fajitas chicken nachos (I obviously like it!). The margaritas are so so, but the price is comparable. We'll continue to take our business to them.

I was in town visiting and were told this place is good Don't Ever GO Here !!! The food was gross. I order seafood big mistake. My boyfriend ordered enchiladas that was even a bigger mistake. The food had no favor at all. The only thing good at the table was the chips... Just the chips !!! If you want Mexican food don't go here

I like Mexican restaurants; I hate this one. I would take a hole-in-wall authentic any day of the week than this place. The servers were not kind, much less welcoming or cordial. It was like they didn't want us there either. My fish taco was so smelly I couldn't eat it. I can only describe it as "gag worthy". Later gator.

No where near authentic in my opinion. The red sauce tastes like spaghetti o sauce. Margaritas are weak in my opinion even when you ask for top shelf.

Food is solidly middle of the road to dull in terms of flavors - but likely the best you can do in Derby if you don't feel like going to a fast food option like Alejandro's.

The food was terrible but the place was packed. The food was unseasoned and NOT worth the money or drive.

It's an authentic Mexican restaurant. The food is kind of OK as far as Mexican food but I thought my enchiladas were a little too melty cheesy. The food could have used a little more pizzaz. One nice thing is everyone gets an individual bowl of salsa for chip dipping. The guacamole was fantastic, tasty and freshly made. Trust me, I'm a California native and I know my avocados. The dining chairs weigh a ton with straight backs, not too comfortable. The service was excellent. I'm just not too excited about the main food entrees. I'll have to come back and try some other things on the menu. The guac, though, rules.

Obviously, the closest to Mexican food you're going to find in Derby is from the colorful suburban "Mexican" restaurants like Los Cocos. No 3,000-word essays from me this time; just some observations: -Those hard-backed chairs fit the overly-Mexican theme, but man, they are not comfortable. -No semblance of spice is used here. You only get one type of salsa - mild - and while it's not bad (I polished off two bowls while waiting), it's nothing to write home about. Too, the chile verde I ordered had a little pepper icon next to it on the menu, but I don't know why. -The "pork tips" in the tomatillo chile were suspiciously tender for whatever cut of pork it actually was (looked more like tenderloin to me), but at least it was tender. The bright tomatillo sauce and slightly caramelized red onions provided a nice counterbalance, too. -I had no way of ordering a la carte, so I was stuck with the rice and beans. They were particularly bland in this case. -Service was nice. At the end of the meal, everyone said it was "good" and left it at that. In my experience, a dismissive comment such as that isn't so much a ringing endorsement as it is a comment that you were just looking for a reason to get out of the house.

My husband really liked it. I was 'turned off' by the taco shells from a box -- those hard shelled preformed taco shells. On a first try, I will usually try a Combo plate -- to try the taco, enchilada & relleno. The margaritas were on special.& my husband liked them. But going to try it again -- at their other location!

So I'm calling around on a Thursday before a holiday to find last minute reservations for 9 because these guys didn't write me down. Too bad the service is so crap py I'll never make it to the food.

Man I just love this place. Very friendly and warm environment. Ask Angel to for the fajitas not on the menu that has everything! Steak, chicken, shrimp and chorizo! So damn good!!!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
