Seriously one of the best restaurants to come to Derby. I like it much better than Chipolte. Great health choices, and great taste. Everything is fresh, and the lime cilantro rice is to die for. Try the Barbacoa in a burrito, absolutely amazing!
This is quiet, clean restaurant. The food is fresh, tasty and way better than Chipolte. My wife and I normally share a barbacoa burrito. Check the local paper or sign up for their specials. Menu here: derby.poblanoks.com/#
Better than chipotle! Definitely the best Mexican food I've had at a restaurant in a minute

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers

This place caught my eye from the road, I had to check it out. I ordered the vanilla concrete (similar to a Dairy Queen Blizzard) with almonds, pecans, and bananas. It was sooooo good, OMG!!! I've never had frozen custard before, but I am such a fan because of this place! I was driving and I literally could not stop eating it; mind you this was in the middle of November, lol. I have not tried the food yet, and I dont think I will. No real reason, I just like it as a dessert spot. Thanks Freddy!!
I used to work there! =] i can honestly say if you want good food that is ALWAYS fresh NO EXCEPTIONS go to the store in derby! i know for fact that the managers there will do whatever possible to insure that you get fresh food and to the best quality! I know i will always go there because i saw first hand how sanatized they keep the store and how much the guest really means to them! they only buy quality food and they only serve quality food. they ensure that your experience is the best that it can possibly be. whether it be the cashier when she greets you the girls in the lobby taking your trays or just making sure everything is looking okay to the cooks in the back insureing you get AMAZING food fast. its not your typical resturant. they take that extra step EVERY time. no exceptions. If you've never tried the place..go there. do yourself the privledge!! id suggest getting the number one!! its delicious!! and while your at it DEFINATELY TRY THE CUSTARD!!! omg if you've never had custard GO RIGHT THIS SECOND! you're missing out! the pbc and b is probably the best! but anyways thats my opinion! go try it asap! cuz you are missing out!
I go to Freddy's everytime I am in derby. The wait on a food order is about 5 minutes but it is most definately worth it!!! I get the grilled chicken sandwich (which is normally a pretty good sized breast compared to local restaurants) and fries. The fries with their seasoning and fry sauce are heavenly! They are the main reason my family keeps coming back! The custard is delicious and so creamy! I love the turtle concrete sundaes loaded with warm carmel, chocolate, and delicious carmelized pecans! I highly recommend Freddy's to anybody looking for a good burger/ ice cream restaurant!

Excellent unique assortment to choose from.. better get there early as they run out fast.
Love supporting small business esp when its great. Always great selection. Sometimes they run out of our fav (maple long johns) so you gotta get there early!
I love their selection of sodas. They have all sorts of bottled soda that you have never heard of before. The donuts are also amazing with a great variety every time I go in here. I especially like the prance cake donut. I would go here everyday if I didn't have to drive 20 minutes to get here. It's my weekend breakfast every weekend!

La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant

1138 Nelson Dr
Derby, 67037
Reviews:
My new favorite Mexican place in Derby. Nothing even compares to the flavors and the staff. We like to go at least once every couple weeks. Great mango and also watermelon margaritas. The pork fajitas some beat I've ever had. Chips and salsa are really good as well.
It's well-established that I'm not a fan of most Mexican restaurants who deal primarily in the "steak or chicken" realm of tacos, burritos, and chimichangas, but in a suburb of ticky-tacky houses and chain restaurants, the local Mexican places leave a lot to be desired. This is why I was so charmed by my visit to La Hacienda: yes, there is a lot of rice and beans platters, but the entire operation, from the food to the service, is bright and lively, making an effort to present their very best. Here there's still a phonebook of a menu that provides every possible combination of every Tex-Mex entree under the sun, and many of them may contain ground beef, but the beef is seasoned, different items actually have different sauces, and it looks like they took time to make sure each dish looked nice before leaving the kitchen. I'm probably not going to go out of my way to return to La Hacienda, though I would certainly recommend it to those looking for this type of Mexican food. I've been in restaurants like these before on much less successful terms; the food is so simple that if the service and preparation aren't up to par, it breaks the restaurant (see my only one-star review of a restaurant). As long as La Hacienda maintains their high standards, they're Derby's best Mexican restaurant.
We came here because casa Martinez was closed until 5. We should have just waited it out. I hate to give a poor review but the food was eh our waiter was eh. The highlight of our meal was the cute old man that brought out the chips and dips.

Casa Martinez

Reviews:
I've been eating often at this restaurant for the last 13 years. It recently changed hands to another family member after original owner retired. I'm very pleased to say that the food is still just as fresh and tasty as ever and the new owner has been working tirelessly to freshen the interior and project a classic yet more modern decor. The menu retains the classic favorites with a couple modern twists available. Casa built a large customer base by serving great food quickly, reasonably priced (including the drinks) and a cast of friendly, attentive wait staff that never let my iced tea get below half-full. Whenever I'm thinking of Mexican food they are always at the top of my list. To continue, because some have questioned my sincerity, I arrived here as an active duty Air Force Master Sergeant in 2002 and settled in Derby - just happened to be close by Casa. Co-workers recommended I try it and I quickly became fond of the place for the reasons I mentioned above. For those who don't like refried beans you can request whole beans as a substitute (I often do), but you can skip to the bonus round and order Mama's bean soup - it's delicious! It could be a meal by itself.
Really wanted to love this place since it's so convenient to my house and had so many great reviews. Unfortunately, I was not impressed. My enchiladas were dry, no sauce at all. The beans and rice lacked flavor, also dry. Perhaps my food had been sitting too long before being delivered? I was surprised to see the waitress arrive with my families order without any tortillas. A Mexican restaurant where tortillas don't automatically come with your plate?! Really?!! The "hot" salsa was decent, the mild tasted like marinara sauce. No Bueno! If you're looking for authenticity, this is not the place. Thankfully, my madre and abuela taught me how to make the real deal when I can't find a restaurant to make it for me on a night out.
Our favorite Restaurant. The best Mexican food and the friendliest service you can ask for. A must for our our Family at least once a month, if not more.

Pizza John’s

208 S Baltimore Ave
Derby, 67037
Reviews:
They have good pizza. Been in Derby a long time. The special seasoning they put on top is nice.
The supreme pie at this pizza joint is, well, supreme! The only thing that kind of weirds me out is that the mushrooms they use are canned, but, for some strange reason, this works for Pizza John's. Since the 1960s, Pizza John's has been serving the Derby community and it's quite the local hub. I was sad to see their sweet wood paneling go a couple years ago when they remodeled, but hey, I'm all for progress.
This place is the upper crust of pizza houses...thin crust and the lemon pepper seasoning is what makes Pizza Johns a classic. Salads are basic, but tasty, and the decor is distinctively Derby, as pretty much everyone who works there (besides the owners) are current Panthers (HS). They've been around a long time with no signs of slowing down. We're a twice-a-month regular.

Hibachi Boy Japanese Grill And More

Good stuff! I always get Hibachi Boy Deluxe and wife goes for Hibachi Filet Mignon. Very friendly staff and service as well. The only thing I can ding them for are the little bitty napkins they provide for their customers to use. I understand that businesses have to watch their costs but with an average entree price somewhere north of $10, I think they can do a little better!
It was ok. kinda pricey. I might as well have gone to a hibachi place where they cook in front of you. It was a quick fix. nothing to jump up and down about.
For Japanese fast food this place it excellent!!! Huge portions and friendly service!

Always an excellent experience! The staff here are friendly and speedy! Our chicken, bacon, artichoke delight pizza was prepared in minutes while we waited. While the pressure of cooking was left to us, the ingredients were top notch and made for a very satisfying meal. Home prep takes only about 20 minutes and the result is much less greasy than most take out options.

Hard for me to judge this restaurant since I don't go to Subway restaurants very often, but from what I saw it seems to be a pretty good place here. Inside the restaurant is clean although it is a small interior. I ordered several sandwiches for me and coworkers, they all turned out great and will come to this location again if I am in the mood for a Subway sandwich. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a sub style sandwich.

Riverside Cafe of Derby

Reviews:
Food was pretty typical for a small diner. That said they have a large selection and it was delicious. There was a short wait but the service was quick and the staff very friendly. One thing to note however is the up charge for toast and side potatoes when ordering. My daughter and I ordered the Hungry Woman combo to share and the server asked all the usual questions (how do you like your eggs, white or wheat, biscuit or pancake, hash browns or fried potatoes) and we just rattled off our selections only to have $1.99 up charge for the toast and the same for hash browns. Same with my brother who ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs. Now it may have been (and probably is) noted somewhere on the menu that there are extra charges for certain items however I never noticed it. Not a huge deal or a deal breaker but if your not expecting extra charges it could be problematic. All in all, good food .... decent prices .... and a cosy retro-ish ambiance will probably bring us back.
Service has gotten a lot better, food is consistently delicious! Great choice if you're looking for a traditional breakfast place.
If you're looking for a nice breakfast experience Riverside cafe is a good place. My favorite dish is the Chicken Fried Chicken with eggs! Nice people too!
