Decent place to watch a game. Clean and vast so doesn't get overly cramped. Middle-aged crowd. Big bar. Decent food. A bit loud for conversation.

I honestly haven't had a bad experience at this place. I have gone multiple times and love their burgers and fish tacos. In addition, the fries are done done right! The servers knew what was going on and were quite attentive and the prices weren't bad, either. If you're going, you have to try a whole array of apps, because they're really good (especially the fried pickles). The only reason I dropped its five to four stars is because of the pizza. It may have been just this location or the way it was made that day, but it was just not very tasty...at all. Plenty to choose from though, so not eating that should be ok.

I've been here numerous times in the late afternoon. Beer prices are great, food is good....but the service..Not so much. There is a dark haired bartender there in the afternoon, name unknown because she has the personality of an old sock, that couldn't be more detached from her job. She always has a attitude like she'd rather be somewhere else. Well there's plenty of other places in the neighborhood..see ya.

This place is hardly luxurious but they have decent food. They do have a lot of food and drink specials...although it never seems to be for whatever I'm interested in drinking (aka not shit beer). The wings, pizza, and duck fat fries are all great. Service is hit or miss. I've had great waitresses here and crap ones. Careful with asking beer prices and expecting that's what you'll pay. I was told one price by the bartender so I chose my beer based on that and it ended up being more expensive when the check came. Instead of honoring the price given, I was shrugged at. The waitresses seem more interested in talking with each other than providing good service too. Anyhow, I go here because it's convenient for friends when I'm in town visiting and it's nicer than some of the other places in the area. It's alright and I'll continue to be a customer as long as they have good food.

My letter to the manager via their website: I just wanted to let you know that I had one of the worst bartender experiences you can have. I came in from the HI Express across the street. Was ignored for about 5 minutes; business was medium at best. When I asked the older female what other than Gumballhead 3Floyd beers did you have, she said Calumet. I said what is that? She rolled her eyes, grabbed a glass, put a taste in it, shot it down on the bar like I was an ex boyfriend. I asked before tasting what it was again. She said she didnt know, she didnt read the *something inaudible*. I ordered a Gumball and asked for a menu. She was so concerned with not wanting to serve me, she couldn't hear me. I waved at her for attention, which she saw but didnt respond. I asked the younger bartender what the price was. She said $6. I laid $6 down, got up, told the hostess that they needed a bartender.

I have to agree with complaints about the day bartender/bar manager. She seems miserable EVERY time we are in. Love the food and the drink specials. However, we avoid going in because of her. She needs to change careers.

Great pizza. Waitresses are real nice and attentive. Unfortunately x the teen music they got blasting means we didn't hang around.

For what it is.....well, WHERE it is rather, it's pretty great. They always have great food and drink specials. I like that they offer a variety of types of liquor on special - not just beer, or one type of cocktail....several specials a day. My most recent visit was to watch the MNF Bears game. They had a "bear-tini" - it was blue. Lol. It was sweet but not syrup tasting. Also had a Long Island 4$, pretty good. It was 5$ burger and fries night. I got the bullpen burger- Brie, bacon and caramelized onion. Tasted great. I upgraded my fries to truffle Parmesan fries and those were good too. They colored the ranch blue for the Bears game...lol corny but cute. Seems like they use higher quality ingredients for their menu items. I've had their wings on 60 cent wing night and those were good too. I haven't had the pizza, but it looks decent. Give them a try!

Please don't be confused because this review is actually for Gelsosomo's Pizzeria located within the Bullpen. Also, I did not set foot in the place or order pizza from them. So what is this all about? The Holiday Inn Express in Schererville had a guest reception last night (and presumably other weeks as well) with pizza from Gelsosomo's, along with colas and perhaps other beverages - being a non-drinker, I did not pay attention. Anyway, I gave the pizza a try and thought it was very good. It had a thin crust, which is my favorite. They offer a deep dish pizza, according to the menu. The sausage pizza had large chunks of very spicy sausage. The plain cheese pizza was anything but plain. I do not know how to describe the flavor except to say that it was very good. Quite vague, I know, but it was good. I did not have a chance to try the pepperoni pizza. I may have to give their pizza a try on the next trip. If they offer another free meal, that will be good. If not, then I'll order a pizza and see how it is the second time. It is worth giving this place a try.

My girlfriends and I got together and decided since everyone has moved away every which direction this would be a central place to meet. We made reservations and they ended up giving us the back room (private). This was a Thursday night so I'm not sure if that's always possible. There were about 15 of us. We ordered a ton of food and drinks. The server was awesome! She kept everything flowing all night and didn't miss a beat. She was on top of it even though we moved around the room and were never sitting in the same place for long. The check was handled just the way we asked for it and everyone there was so nice. We had several appetizers and pizzas. The food was actually really good for a sports bar. I was surprised. We are already planning our next get together and I'm sure Bullpen will be agreed on by everyone.

Waited more than an hour for a burger at lunch time with about a dozen people in the restaurant, including people just drinking at the bar. Avoid if you like timely service.

I wouldn't consider it a luxury bar and grill, but the atmosphere is pleasant, the service was great. We had pizza and salad, fresh and tasty. Definitely a good option for a meal if you're at one of the local hotels.

The service was terrible. The bartender must been on her period or just broken up with her girlfriend, but I ordered a Miller Lite, which took her 10 seconds to grab from the ice chest and she said "don't waste my time" since I didn't tip her. Get off your high horse, make me a mixed drink, then take your shitty job out on me. Ridiculous.

Just rude unprofessional attitude...First time we went there we order some drinks at 1:35 in the morning( they claim to be open until 2:00 am) After 15 minutes we eared someone shouting at us : Get t. fuck out! We closed! So I turned around and 2 muscle bimbos where there trying to impress us... So I said well can we finish our drinks? 75$ and they said, we are close get tf out! We decide not to cause a drama and we left promising never to come back. My stupid friends drag me back here tonight and it was the most idiotic situation I had in my life. Can I have a Belvedere chilled? Sure, coming back with a shot of water, and I said sorry that's not a shot of vodka it's just water, the bartender....well that's how good vodka taste like! I said I know how good vodka taste like and she said ok than I will give you a shot not chilled, and she pour a shot in front of me and bill me for 28$ I ripped the paper and left, see you never mtf!

Tried to discover something new and regretted that decision after 2 minutes of walking in the door. The bartender, Jackie, wasn't just rude, but very unprofessional. Didn't say much to us. I could tell we were an inconvenience. If you don't have people skills, please go lock yourself in your house and become a cat lady. Won't ever go back there again.

I wouldn't consider it a luxury bar and grill. Here's the skinny: Food - OK. Nothing to call home about. Drinks - OK Service - If you sit at the BAR, get ready for some attitude from your bartenders. The waitresses are attentive. Price - little above average. Live music - they have it. We go back on occasion to watch sporting events. Not too many options in NWI. ;(

  • Vickie K.

Very poor tonight. Ordered a white wine. When we wanted another glass she said she was out. Would send some one to basement to get it. after ten minutes she brought it. It was warm. No tip tonight.

Upon further review. My first visit to this place was mediocre at best. However, since then things have improved and I have no problem stating that this place is worth checking out. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. They don't disappear for lengthy periods of time and they don't check on you every 5 minutes. The appetizers are very good. I love the mango habanero wings. Also, a huge plus for this place is that they have specials EVERY day the week. Well done Bullpen. I have been and will be back for more.

Literally the worst bar I've ever been too. They have a new manager and he denied me even when I presented multiple forms. The service is a awful and you'll only have fun if you 65 or older. Worst bar I've ever been to in the region

Been here a few times now... It's a lot nicer that the old Cavanaughs that used to be here a few years back. Here's the skinny: Food - pretty good. Drinks - A-OK. Service - Nice 'n fast. Price - little above average. Live music - they have it. Here's the fat: I like their appetizers, they're quick and easy finger food for the most part. The Bull Pen Filet Mignon sliders are very tasty! Get em, Eat em, Love 'em. Drinks are good, they can make just about anything since the bartenders are pretty knowledgeable when it comes to "mixology". Go check out the drink specials, they are pretty tasty and come at a decent price. Both the bartenders and waitresses are on top of it. Like their eyes are always lookin' for someone that just might need a refill or a tab or maybe just a napkin or 3. When it get's busy busy that service drops down just a bit but, I can't blame them for it. There's plenty of customers that need attention and they do their best to keep up during the rush - PROPS. Bull Pen's prices are definitely above the average in this area. Not a terrible thing but, some of the drinks could be cheaper... I mean a Tanqueray & Tonic here is just like a Tanqueray & Tonic down the street... why charge a buck more? They do have live music here too, not a lot of room but, they make due with what they got. Bands are local and can draw a decent crowd most of the time. All in all, this is a pretty cool place to grab a bite and a drink from time to time. SYOY

I stayed at the hotel for work for an extended period of time and during my stay have visited the bullpen many times. The weekend night bartenders are friendly, attractive and most importantly never let my beer get low even when busy. The food is good, especially the pizza. When I return to the area I will definitely return to the bullpen

My Husband and i took our 2 children here for an early dinner. .3:30ish... we were the only patrons in the restaurant. . The service was terribly slow.. it took twenty minutes to get our nacho appetizer. Had to find server to get refills. . KIds Meals were supposed to arrive with app.. that didn't happen. The pizza was ok, similiar to Aurelios but not quite as good.. it was under cooked and soggy..I could eat the pizza again if it was well done but would not go back because of the slow service.

The food was amazing here and I had a really great experience. I was trapped in town with my mother and sister due to the weather. We were staying at the motel next door. It was a Monday night so the place was pretty empty but the service was fantastic and the food was great and the drinks were even better. We ended up going back later that evening to hang out at the bar for, you guessed it, more drinks (they were just that good).

They ran out of NAPKINS!!! What kind of establishment actually runs out of napkins?!?... And especially acts casual about it like its no big deal?????? When we asked for napkins, our waitress substituted to us a few bar napkins at first (like those were really sufficient lol), then some very large weird napkin things from the kitchen. She acted like she could care a less, and the manager pretty much followed suit. The manager should have sent someone out to Costco to go get some!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I go for the beer. I hear they have fantastic food, and one day I will try that. I normally go after already going to dinner because I live just around the corner. So that makes it my go to bar to end the night. They have specials that works well for me on the nights I do go out. The DJ needs to play songs for longer than one chorus line though! That drives me bonkers after I have been drinking. If it is a song I like then I want to hear it! Not 10 seconds of it!!! I know the DJ's are probably different each night, but this seems to be the norm. Other than that I enjoy going here and will go back many many more times.

I went here on a Monday for $5 burger night. For $5 you get the basic hamburger/cheeseburger plus your choice of fries (I had tator tots and my husband had the cajun sweet potato fries, which were really good). It was a pretty good burger for only $5, the meat had a good flavor and was fairly juice. It seemed like a nice bar--nice ambiance and clean. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. Good for a cheap night out on a weekday.

We ended our night here outside on the patio overlooking the main drag. Our group needed a place to smoke and drink...not an easy find in Indiana anymore. Our server was aggressive and we couldn't drink fast enuf for her patrol pace. Nice problem to have as a casual customer. Since they didn't water down my 1am Absolute Martini, I'll credit them w 3 stars for honesty. Don't go out til 2am much anymore, but this spot was just fine for a late night outdoor patio wind-down session w smokers.

I came on Wednesday and had the wing special. Some of the wings came out uncooked. They then replaced the raw wings that I bit into with new ones, and brought out a couple extra. They then charged me for the extra wings that I didn't ask for, and those came out raw too. Order the wings at your own risk.

Worst bartenders in NW Indiana and perhaps the entire country. They don't smile, never treat customers as number 1 and always have some personal problem. These bartenders do not charge correctly, refill beers, nor serve food promptly. All the bartenders do is walk around and talk to their co workers. The manager allows this kind of conduct so don't bother telling him either. Prices are high but they have good specials that are well priced. No special food prices on Friday and Saturday which is sad. Poor beer selection if you like a variety of micro beers. Decent food rather it's bar food or a full meal you are looking for. This place would be top notch if they had bartenders that cared instead of looking at the clock to go home....

  • Shawne B.

Pretty good food (GREAT guacamole!), decent drink prices (especially if you take advantage of their various specials), and exceptionally accommodating management. We usually stop in here for some drinks and apps on Saturday nights. There's never a wait for a table, yet we always sit at the bar. The bartenders are very friendly and attentive (but of course, every place has its token grumpy and disgruntled server every once in a while) and they have multiple TVs that they will gladly change to any sporting event that you came there to watch. Not dead yet not too crowded, we've never had a problem finding open seats at the bar nor with getting elbowed by unruly and obnoxious patrons. Yes, it gets loud but that is because it is a sports bar. If you're looking to have a quiet intimate dinner, this is not your place.... But if you're interested in catching a game, a drink, and a burger (or just the chips and guac!) - this is your place.

Really not ok. Have to echo the other low star ratings. Food undercooked, service spotty, and I left grumpy to have wasted my time. Would've been better off at 5 guys or chipotle. Seriously. Only good news is I didn't get sick.

Place is a joke. Linguine way too over cooked. Sauce had a bitterness that over cooked marinara tastes like. Pizza bread was an open subroll with tomato sauce and cheese. Fried zucchini literally tasted like they bought a huge frozen bag from a Sam's club and just fried it up. Ordered 5 things, none of it stood out.

Went there on a Wednesday with my 2 kids. There were 3 or 4 tables that were being serviced, but no wait staff. Just the bartender had to come over and wait on us. Food was ok. I had a baja shrimp wrap and it was pretty much all lettuce. The clam chowder was good. My kids had a cheese pizza (actually a flatbread and that was good) and chicken fingers (average). The end of the meal was what sucked. Kids were supposed to be half price and she didn't ring that up & I had to remind her. Also, kids are supposed to get ice cream & she never asked or brought any. The kicker was going into the bathroom and seeing the bus boy shaving in the only sink there. He was an older guy in full shave mode. Pretty disgusting.

Not the worst place, but certainly not a luxury bar. As others have mentioned, if this place calls itself "luxury", start with the staff. The service is poor and simply unattentive. The bartender had about 3 customers and couldn't be bothered. I waited so long for the bill, that I got frustrated and pulled back my credit card and paid with cash - leaving the bartender with about a $.75 tip since I didn't have any singles and he couldn't be pulled away from his IPhone

Had dinner here tonight and was pleasantly surprised. Pizzas, burgers, and sliders were all great and cooked to order. Fries and dipping sauces were good and fun. Friendly service too.

The food at the BullPen is really good. 4-stars good. We had excellent burgers one night and the black bean soup another. The burgers were thick and juicy and served with good fries. The soup was thick and spicy and topped with crispy tortilla chips. That said, a visit at 7pm and sitting in the back room, my husband and I had to SCREAM at each other across the table to hear. Service was spotty and since it was so loud, you couldn't attract a server without getting up to find one. I returned a week later to purchase a gift certificate. They were not set up for them yet but said if I could come back later, they would do something. No problem. When I picked up the g.c., it was on a sheet of paper and in an envelope. Again, no problem. However, they had ripped off the gift certificate and did not even bother to trim the paper. It was very unprofessional. The place is always packed with a 20-30ish crowd and I would go back at lunch or for early evening cocktails NOT dinner and I hope they improve the service.

Rude and rotten service, average food, small portions, I wouldn't stop there again even if I had a flat tire.

Love this place. Clean, Excellent Food and great drink specials. i also love that they have acoustic entertainment on the weekends and not JUST a DJ all the time. I also love the outdoor seating. They have recently went smokeless but you can still smoke out on the patio. Cant wait to go back.

The food is very good for the price. The place is clean and the staff friendly. However if you don't like a loud atmosphere this isn't the place for you, or just order carry out!

Went here for a work xmas party. We were seated in their party room. The food was awesome, the service was great, and the atmosphere was very laid back and.fun. I absolutely loved it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing time at a great sports lounge.
