I really only review if something is exceptional or if things happen at the place that warrant an unfortunately bad review. We went to this place over the summer while we were camping at the Indiana Dunes. I love the drive-in places, the ambiance was good, and the food was decent - though my wife had some paper in her coleslaw. However, we got our check and we were looking it over and realized we were overcharged for our food. The friendly waitress took a look at it said sorry and corrected it, or so we thought. We still thought it felt wrong so we asked her to take it to the supervisor and see if we were correct. We were - it was still overcharged - by at least $5 on a 20 dollar check. It was very disappointing. Also, perhaps no one was there to give authority to do so, but wouldn't you think that if a customer pointed out a mistake from the business, twice, that they would take every measure, even offer the food on the house, to make sure it was corrected? I understand times can be hard. But if the prices were raised, I would be willing to bet they would still get business and people like us, who are excited to eat at such a fun place, would pay it without being cheated (twice). Of course, this is only one experience - but it is enough for me to ask others to make sure they are being charged correctly and enough to not consider coming back on our dunes adventures.

Fun place for the family, hard to find drive-ins these days. The fresh fruit shakes are amazing(peach is my favorite). Cash only! Inside will take u back in time. Burgers and fries are good (what u expect) from a drive-in. Definitely worth the old time charm.

Decent burgers here. Downfall is they only accept cash. My girlfriend had to drive to the nearest atm and back just to pay for our food.

Pretty much what everyone else said. The food is just ok, but I like to come here on a summer afternoon because I love the old-time feel (wouldn't call it retro because there's nothing contrived, it's all authentically old and classic) and I like to see that places like this are still around.

You can tell this place has been around a long time, they really haven't done much remodeling. But still it's the only drive in around. The food is decent and reasonably priced. So if you wan't to do something different, it's a cool place to try.

Great burgers, plentiful tasty fries, and delicious COLD root beer! You can even buy it by the gallon.

We were visiting from out of town. Based on what we ordered - veggie burger - no go for us. veggie basket , fried cauliflower, zucchini and mushrooms - very good. home made diet root beer - Wonderful! The best diet root beer I've ever had. It was so icy cold and refreshing. If you park underneath the covering, a car hop will come and take your order and bring it out to you in your car. Based on 2 good food choices and one not so good choice, I rate it a 3 star.

The Port is just a great place. The food is good, but it's not going to blow your socks off. However, there rootbeer floats are the best. Hands down! You should go there just for the floats.

The Port is a long time favorite for our family. It's usually our go-to after a long day at the beach, but tonight we were just looking for a quick but to eat and stopped in. We tried the fried cheddar cubes and fried green beans for the first time and they were fantastic! The rest of our dinner was burgers, fries and hotdogs and those all tasted great. Of course topping off dinner with their amazing root beer and ice cream cones! Our car hop was the cutest, so friendly and on roller blades :) a fun family night!

Right off the bat I subtract stars for not accepting cards and not having a convenient atm inside. Drive over to the speedway (get charged atm fee and bank fee) and get money then come back. Food is pretty good. Had an admiral that was tasty. Corn nuggets are awesome. Waffle fries also good but pricey for what you get. Chili on dogs was good, dogs themselves were average. This particular day the soda fountain was down. The server did tell us ahead of time it was cash only - "we're so old fashioned, we don't even have a computer". Here's a tip to the owners of this establishment: jump on into the 21st century. One can accept cards without a pos system. Get an ipad for pete's sake.

let me start out by saying I know this is not a fine dining establishment, but could the hot dog I ordered be at least warm. the cheese fries were cold along with the cheese, the mushrooms were almost black because they were fried too long. my wife's diet root beer tasted like rust, but the regular root beer was good. So all I am asking is that the food be hot I don't think that is asking much.

Ordered the fruit smoothies off of the menu, got milkshakes instead. The cups smelled/tasted like grease. Cash only. One star for nostalgia-factor is probably too many.

I'm a sucker for old-timey things. This is doubly so if they are still functional and maintained. Port Drive In is like a blast from the past, but with vegetarian options on the menu and no ill-executed costumes. Somehow, despite the lack of meat, I still got the wonderful "drippy patty from a burger stand" sensation that I remember from the dives where my dad used to take me to show me what he liked to eat when he was a kid. Priceless! Also, they are authentically cash-only. No plastic, people. Do you like soda? Port Drive In is like a soda mecca of the tri-state area. Some of it is made on-site. Some of it is mad scientist-style, like when you and your friends messed around in the kitchen during sleep-overs, but actually tasty. Some of it is served in big icy mugs. Plus, they have phosphates! Are you too tired to leave your car after hiking the dunes? This is just a short drive from the state park, and as soon as you park, a friendly server will be at your window, asking you if you need a menu and clarifying the terms of the coupons the park gives to out of state visitors. I thought we'd have to wait a bit for service, but no! I was actually confused when our server approached, thinking she confused us with another car and was here to drop off a check. No, she was for us! Despite the intense heat, she was friendly and patient with our questions ("What the heck are bosco sticks? What is a lily pad?") and answered them well. Then, we got to eat in our car. I'd say the whole experience took about 15 minutes, but it didn't feel like "fast food." I look forward to returning the next time I'm in Indiana and trying another gem from the soda fountain.

After a year of living in the Chesterton area and a year of several stops to The Port, I have to add another star to my review. We've had consistently good service every visit. What I took for a dive before, I now appreciate for its classic, retro feeling. The food is not amazing, let's not tip-toe around that, but it is basic diner food with a great deal of options (and cheap to boot). The root beer is great too!! We have bought it by the gallon on more than one occasion. Decent food, good service, good atmosphere... In conclusion I throw away all the pretentiousness of my last review and embrace the Port for what it is. Recommended!

The Port has great veggie burgers (two different kinds!), tasty miscellaneous fried things, and awesome homemade root beer. They've got a pretty long menu that also includes burgers, hot dogs, shrimp, fish, etc. I vaguely remember going inside once a long time ago and it was kind of depressing. Now we always do the drive up (car hop service) or sit at a picnic table. That's really what makes this place special (along with the root beer). As another reviewer pointed out, the food isn't really going to blow you away. There's just something about The Port, maybe sitting in my truck with a frosty mug of root beer on a beautiful summer evening, that makes it worthy of four stars.

This place is awesome. Great hotdogs. Bellhop service. HUGE menu. And they make their own root beer which is great. Also they offer Green River which I'd never tried before (a lime flavored soft drink). Old school drive-in that honors the past while feeding the present.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
