This is such a beautiful little place, in a beautiful little town, beautiful patio. In an establishment like this, there should be a POS system that converts from the bar to the servers. Our evening began at the bar, for a short wait to dine outside. We had to pay our bar tab before seating. 2 drinks, no big deal a bit antiquated. Appetizer, the polenta with sundried tomato, spinach in a goat cheese cream sauce, wonderful. The fact your an Italian restaurant and do not have a separate Parmesan for dipping, grind vs shred, forgivable. The fact you charge for roasted garlic, serve it whole and do not have a table side presentation, it's served with oyster forks, that is just poor plating, presenting and a no...no. Then before we get more than 2 bites the bus boy sweeps it off our table with out asking, we ordered the garlic, pressed it ourselves and were enjoying it. There is a line between attentive service and being pushy. Now this is the second of such offenses against our meal, they tried to take the polenta away but I caught that and politely said we weren't finished. The duck we ordered did have a pleasant cherry Marsala, but the skin was like mush. It was more like boiled duck than roasted. Duck in itself can be difficult to cook, render the fat from and finish crisp without drying the meat. If you can't do it right, don't offer it. It's an insult to the duck. The waiter was so polite and such a nice young man, I don't blame him for being under trained, that is the management and kitchen staffs job. You must educate and train your staff. Lucrezia's has potential. Just get it together with your staff.

My friend and I decided to take an impromptu trip to the, Indiana Dunes. We decided to stop at, Lucrezia for dinner on the way to our hotel. As we drove up, we were charmed by the quaint atmosphere. It was picturesque; with bright lights strung in trees, overhead. We were seated immediately. We got our food in 10 minutes or less, and the staff were very friendly.

I'm really torn on this review. In some cases Lucrezia's is a 5, but in others it was a 2. It's entirely possible, too, that I had this place so built up in my head that I was a little disappointed. The choices looked amazing. I was actually really pleased with the meal I chose. I got portobella ravioli with spinach and shrimp in a vodka cream sauce. super yummy. My boyfriend got a veal lasagna type dish. I thought it was okay. I wasn't super impressed with the bread and olive oil. I didn't like our bruschetta. It was soaking with olive oil almost to the point of it being disgusting, and the cheese on top seemed...old? I don't know, it just didn't seem fresh to me. Honestly, if I was just reviewing the food I would probably give 4 stars. However, I was not impressed with our service. The woman was pushy. When we got there we were the only people in the entire restaurant and she was acting like she just wanted to get turnover. She did not ask us if we wanted appetizers (which we did, but forgot we did because she was pushing us to get our order in), then took away our drink menus as soon as we said we would start with water. When we remembered we wanted the bruschetta, we asked for it, but it was too late at that point because our food came out almost as soon as we asked. oh well. Here's another pet peeve of mine- I wasn't even done chewing my last bite of food and she took my plate and the bread away. Again, I understand being efficient and wanting good turnover, but we were the only ones there! She did the same to my boyfriend. The ambience was great- cute little place, cozy. I was a little annoyed that all the pictures on the wall were crooked, though. All in all, I think I will give other places a chance before jumping to come back.

The salad and pasta were delicious. As was my martini. And my boyfriend and I shared both the salad and the pasta of the day. The salad took 25 minutes to arrive. And the pasta took an additional 30. And even after all that time it took to make salad and pasta, they couldn't take the time to plate them separately. So for both, I sat at the table and dished half onto an empty plate (that they were "gracious" enough to supply). The salad was $9. The pasta was $17. And great and worth it. But maybe they shouldn't be "high end" for Porter County and maybe try to be more "high end" in the "service industry" (that I am also in) and provide better service to their customers.

A quaint little outdoor patio place with a small indoor bar, this place has a long list of daily specials, most of it really refined dishes. We tried the stuffed quail, a couple kinds of pasta dishes, and a pannini. All of it was great. They also serve great olive oil. The really rich, olivey stuff. The service was very good, too - very formal but friendly.

A person we know did some sewage work in their basement where the cook the food so when they were cooking the food raw waste was at the feet of the people working. So we avoid that place to this day very nasty

I had to go to Chesterton for lunch. I'm glad we chose this place. It's a very adorable little house housing a restaurant which is city-worthy. The endless bread and butter is cool, but also is bad because you end up eating your appetite up. My pasta, which was a special, was fanflippingtastic. It had cherry tomatoes, artichokes and rock shrimp and was served In a lemongrass Rosemary cream sauce. Yum. The minestrone was one of the best I've ever had. I Cant think of anything negative to say about lucrezia. Bravissimo.

This is a quaint little gem! I stumbled upon this uniquely painted establishment this past week while visiting Chesterton. I was pleasantly surprised! It was good...very good. The service was top notch. The wait staff was so attentive that they noticed what I needed even before I did! The outdoor patio is lovely. Lots of shade, and folliage...the perfect atmosphere for dining alfresco. The food was very good. The meatballs were tender veal and the sauce had a kick...just the way I like it. Overall, I would highly recommend Lucrezia's. I plan to go back as often as possible!

After many years of living in Italy, I am a definite snob about Italian food. Lucrezia's has been the ONLY authentic Italian restaurant I've found since leaving there. The veal marsala was excellent and the zuccotta was phenomenal! The complimentary bread with olive oil was a nice start to their meal.

This place is an old standby and well loved among my friends and family. They have some amazing daily specials and a solid menu of Italian fare. I took my mom here for her Mother's day dinner. We both started with one of their martinis. I actually usually order wine when I'm here because they have a fantastic wine selection. However, I was curious to see what their cocktails were like. I had something called a Journalist that was made with gin, Cointreau, and vermouth. It was a decent cocktail but I did not like that it came with pieces of ice from when it was mixed. For starters we had their roasted garlic to spread on our bread and the special of soft shell crab. My mom was apprehensive about the garlic, but fell in love with it as soon as she tried it. You really haven't lived until you've spread roasted garlic on your bread. Clearly, I don't recommend for date night. My mom and I both ordered off the specials menu and her prime rib with a paprika pesto sauce was excellent and perfectly cooked. I overcame a little bit of guilt and had this amazing veal with prosciutto in a lemon sauce. My meal paired very well with the glass of Saviougon Blanc I ordered. I only order veal once every few years and this was well worth my 'veal tickets'. It was light, tender and the sauce added a nice creamy citrus twist. We finished with a dessert of lemon tiramisu and then I introduced my mom to lemoncello - which she loved. Better make sure she doesn't pull a Danny De Vito at our next family function.

This USED to be my favorite restaurant. I'm from Chicago and whenever I would come anywhere near Chesterton, I would make sure to stop here. However, my thoughts have changed. Their food is still good BUT the value just isn't there anymore. I ordered a $15 pasta dish with chicken. It came in a bowl the side of a soup bowl. REALLY? Pasta is one of the cheapest things a restaurant can make and you're going to skimp? Let's face it... Lucrezia's was never really known for their large portion sizes but the good food always made up for it. Whenever a customer buys anything, they want to feel as if they are getting more value for their money. Sadly, this isn't the case anywhere. Lucrezia has lost it's way. When I can find better value for my money in an expensive city like Chicago, you know something is wrong. Unfortunately, Lucrezia and I must part ways and I must find another favorite restaurant.

2 dines in and I'm vascilating between "A-ok" 3 stars & "Yay! I'm a fan!" 4 stars b/c there is no 3.5 option so I'm rounding up b/c it's Chesterton, IN. What I like about Lucrezia is the ambience (cute as a button!) the vast menu selection (more specials than regular options!) and the staff/service......the food in my opinion is their achilles heel and has been good not great thus far but I'm willing to keep going back b/c of a lack of local options in the area. I've found that when I order a salad and an entree I've loved one but not the other and vice versa but I'm going to keep returning anyway. The prices and above mentioned kudos make it worth it. Cute summertime patio too, a good date place.

Very enjoyable meal and nice atmosphere. I love that it is owned by Chesterton residents and not some big restaurant company. My pasta was fantastic and so far the best restaurant bloody mary (pre lunch drink) for only $5. I lived in Chicago for 18 years and since moving here have missed the restaurant choices but so far Valpo and Chesterton seem to have some really fantastic restaurants. Now if only someone would open a real Japanese restaurant.

This place was on Check Please! and still no reviews? Wow. I'll happily fill you in. Located in the heart of downtown Chesterton, on Calumet Avenue - just down the block from not much anything - there's a distinctly painted small Victorian style home with an Italian restaurant inside. Not the kind of Italian place that hosts kids birthday parties or puts coupons in your weekly grocer's coupons - the kind where you don't tuck a napkin around your neckline like a bib. This is the kind of place where your waiters look like they just came back from prom - and the service is worth it's weight in parmesan. I've been here twice; the first time about 4 years ago in the summer, the second just a month ago in the frigid winter. Both times I was impressed and tried to convince my whole family to go - but that damn Bartlett's (which don't get me wrong is good) opened and they are devout fans. Here's what I like about this place... 1. The service - they need your business and aren't afraid to say so. Chesterton is not exactly the Las Vegas of the midwest despite its proximity to several casino boats. 2. The chalkboard specials. There are at least 2 of every kind of special listed and all of them are amazing. 2 pasta specials, 2 fish, 2 meat, etc. I had the pasta special this last visit - Spring pasta with asparagus, chicken, and spinach - very very good. The regular menu is good too - but I love specials. 3. The endless bread. Although the bread could use two improvements. It could be warmed and it could stop at dessert time - they seriously kept it coming and coming. We felt bad saying no of course so we kept eating. The only things that could be wrong with Lucrezia's are the small spaces for dining indoors - although in the summer there is patio dining. In the winter it makes for close quarters and if someones drinks too much (maybe us) it could be annoying (to you), also we sat across from the room from someone who had the munchies - and we could smell why. I think you know what I mean. Overall - worth the stop if you're in the area and want an amazing twist on traditional Italian dishes as well as simple Italian contemporary dishes. Lots of options, ample parking, good beer and wine choices, and prices are reasonable - you'd pay alot more in Chicago.

This is a really good restaurant with a quaint interior. If the weather is good, the outside patio is a real treat. Every dish you order is going to be tasty and Lucrezias is a surprisingly good choice for carry out. I've eaten their carry out on multiple occasions and it is identical to eating inside (always hot and with sides too). My only concern for this restaurant is it is a little pricey, but that is generally true for good Italian.

Lucrezia in Chesterton has super yummy food, fantastic desserts and martinis. Sometimes the vegetable sides are a little oily, but that's about my only complaint. The patio is awesome in summertime, and the almost all of the staff are spectacular. It is a little expensive for Chesterton, but definitely cheaper than you'd pay for the same experience in Chicago.

Yum! Yum! Yum! We went to Lucrezia's for my husbands birthday. We recently moved to the area, so we wanted to check it out. It was amazing! We had great martini's to start in the bar area. It is a small restaurant, but it only took us 15 minutes to get a table. We started with Cream of Spinach Soup w/Red Pepper Cream - it was AMAZING! I had eggplant rolled with proscuitto and mozzerella, I loved it. I'm a big fan of all eggplant, so this made me happy. My husband got Lamb Shank, it was so tender and savory. It was served with red cabbage that complimented the dish so well. I'm still craving it today. We will be back!

I'm very ambivalent about Lucrezia. First, I have been going to their flagship restaurant in Calumet City, Illinois for over 20 years and so, I was excited when they brought one to Indiana. I have been a great fan for many years..............until my last visit. Picture this - my husband and I are off this day and we are the first ones in the dining room to eat dinner. I love their salads and I always order one. So, I see they have a special on today - a fish I've never heard of but could be interesting. I order the special and immediately, the waiter comes out to the chalkboard and ERASES the special of the day. Hmmmmm, did they just have 1? And it was horrible. Absolutely horrible. That being said, the service is excellent. The rest of the food appears to be excellent, but I won't go back because of the preparation and the fact that I think they pawned something old off on me that they wanted to get rid of. If you go, maybe avoid the specials. Their pastas are very good. But I can see, they've cut back from what they used to be. It's a little sad and I will shed a tear for them, but I will go the one in Calumet City if I want to eat there again.

Visited Lucrezia's last night on a whim (hubby didn't want what the kids were having). I would have liked to give 3.5 stars and am giving them the benefit of the doubt with 4. The cons: olive oil not served with bread, paper napkins, laminated menu, outdoor seating area is looking shabby and not in a chic way. Overall, food was very good. Service was EXCELLENT. They were shockingly busy for a Tuesday evening (at 7) but no wait. Check was $92 and included an appetizer, 2 desserts and 4 adult bevs (beer/wine). We ate big but still -- for $90+ they need to spruce things up. We'll still give them another chance though, I'm sure.

Lucrezia's is a gem hidden out in a small town. Everything I've ordered there has been fabulous, especially the veal Marsala, seasonal veggie sides, and seasonal desserts (last time: strawberries stuffed with chocolate mascarpone). My dining partner can't get enough of the cavatappi with sausage or the special green tomato salad. Mid-casual, homey atmosphere, extremely attentive waitstaff. I never miss dinner here when I am in town.

We took a detour after being stuck in traffic for over an hour. We originally stopped at Octave Grill, and it was so small and packed . It probably had about 8 tables. So out we walked from the restaurant, drove another block and stopped at this quaint restaurant and what a great decision that was! I had the stuffed eggplant, my kids had the chicken piccata and Alfredo fettuccine, and my husband had the 3 meat lasagna. Everything was excellent! For dessert, we had triple chocolate mousse, zoccoto, tiramisu and Creme Brûlée. All were delicious!

This will be very short. My chicken caprese was tasteless. Basil rubbed on top of a tasteless chicken breast. The spaghetti with veal meat balls had a sour marinara sauce and not enough of it. The lamb shank tasted very good. I tasted the cabbage .. it was good but too sweet. the green beans were good. The stuffed pepper was alittle hot and tasteless. Over all the food needed better seasoning. The service was very good. The prices were extreme since it was mostly generic. Not even organic or local grown and if it was did not say so.. The Dish is much better.

I really don't understand what all of the hub-bub is about. it is a sub-par Italian restaurant. I have noticed that the majority of people who have recommended this place to me tend to be older Caucasian couples who reminisce about how this was their place. The food is ok. I originally ordered the caprese salad but the tomatoes were a bit green and the fresh motz tasted anything but fresh thanks tot he rough outer layer that develops from being exposed to the air. I had it sent back and ordered the sachetti. It was just bland and I kept thinking to myself that I could have made spaghetti with sauce out of a bottle and would have been happier. It may have been great once but I think those days hae long passed.

Excellent. A small gem. The restaurant is a quaint old house seating about 50 but the food is what you would find in an Italian cafe in Florence Italy. Wonderful black tie service and exceptional food. Has the lasagna and braised shank of lamb. fabulous!!! Don't forget to take home a bottle of their olive oil. Off the beaten path but so worth it!!!

Knowing good food when we eat it, this aint it. Veal marsala was an oil slick mess of NO flavor. No other customers in the joint. Go meet friends for a cold one and no worries, just not the food.

Service was nice but to much doting, wine was tasty. The food was blah blah blah, was not happy with the minced meat in the lasagna. I think that the dessert aka tiramisu was horrible, the whipped cream over powered the flavors. Will not be back or send anyone to this restaurant. Very small and noisy, so if you going for romance forget, it just won't happen at this place. Paper napkins really, I think this place needs a new chef. I don't usually give bad comments, but this food was not worthy of going.

I had a nice business lunch here a few days ago. Although a little cramped, but cozy - the restaurant is comfortable enough. The house salad was a dissapointment but the pasta made up for it. It was very tatsy. The service was great and my water was always full.

Sat in the lovely outdoor garden, canopied by trees, on a mild early summer evening. Not feeling ravenous, I ordered the calamari salad and a white pizza. Both were excellent. The salad had nice portion of small, tender squid rings along with celery, tomato wedges, slivers of very mild onion, some shredded lettuce, and a light, mild dressing. It needed a little more olive oil (which was at hand), a squeeze of lemon, and a sprinkle of salt to bring up the flavor, but was nicely made -- not necessarily a bargain at $11, but the sort of homemade seafood salad you don't typically see outside of serious big city Italian restaurants (and usually not even there). The white pizza (listed as an appetizer but substantial enough to be a meal for one) had a nice crust, not ultra thin but crisp, not doughy, with a nice chew and flavor. It was topped with mozzarella (I asked for extra), olive oil and garlic, sliced Roma tomatoes, and some spinach. Well executed and delicious. They have a nice selection of wines by the glass. Had a very good vermentino and frascati. Sadly, the bread is nothing at all special and on the dry side. The "complimentary" olive oil (they would charge for it?) is full-bodied and has an interesting sort of spicy kick. I finished with a large wedge of cake consisting of white chocolate mousse encased in a thin layer of chocolate sponge cake. I doubt it was house- or locally made -- it just looked and tasted too much like something produced in a commercial bakery -- but it was good quality, the mousse light and not excessively rich or sugary. Service was attentive and professional. My main server was rushed and very impersonal, making me feel a bit like I was in a diner. But her pacing and attention were fine, and she was assisted by two guys who provided pepper and cheese, poured water, and generally hovered. So no serious complaints.

The service was great but after that, the Ceasar salad was average at best. I had the Cavatini with Italian sausage. I say average at best and my wife had the 3 meat lasagna which after a taste I would say BLAH! Tasted like ketchup sauce and very little meat that I felt but didn't taste. Decent wine though! Don't see me going back though. Save your $$ and time and find a better spot!

Ate outside on a Sunday afternoon. The outdoor patio seating is nice, but the server station should be kept cleaner since its in plain sight. I had the penne primevera since it appeared to be vegan. It would have been better if it weren't drenched in oil. The menu is pretty large, but there were hardly any vegan dishes. Some of the ingredients from the other dishes at my table appeared to be frozen.

My fiance and I both agreed that this was one of the best meals we have had in a long time. We had been to other chain Italian restaurants in the last month or two and this place blew them out of the water. I got the Stuffed Eggplants and he got the Rigatoni with smoked chicken. The service was also phenominal. The only downside is the outdoor area has a view of a dry cleaners but you can tell the restaurant did everything they could to make it a great experience.

My wife and I visited this place when we spent an anniversary weekend at the Dunes. First, I should say that the food and service here were much better here than at Sage on the other side of town. Don't go there for Italian food -- come here. I ordered veal ravioli with a marsala sauce with shallots, sun-dried tomatoes, and bacon. That's all of my favorite things in one dish! Even better, we ordered chocolate marscapone filled strawberries for dinner, and they were delicious. Finally, the outdoor garden patio was a beautiful place to eat dinner.

Lucrezia in Chesterton IN was awesome...Northern Italian cuisine...they have a place in Crown Point too...lots of specials on the menu....quaint and intimate but not pretentious.... I had the pasta with chicken in an alfredo sauce with portabello mushrooms and it was very tasty. The sauce itself was not heavy ..I secretly wanted to lick the plate but refrained. The bread was rather tough and I prefer parmesan with the olive oil. Service was attentive. Small little place but I find that to be charming. The outdoor patio area looked nice and would enjoy returning on a summer night to sip some Chianti or maybe one of their martini specials. Dress was casual.

Save your money, the portions were small for the cost. The wait times were very long, and we went at an off peak time. The service was poor, I asked for lemon with my water and I literally saw my server dog his bare hands into a container of lemons, then put a slice on my cup. Coffee was ordered and sugar and cream was not brought out with that. We had to ask twice for the sugar. We ordered an appetizer, the server asked us for the specifications as to how we wanted it, then 30 min later we asked about it and apologized and said he didn't here us put the order in. We ordered a half sized portion of pasta that was bigger than my husband's portion of pasta. I ordered a salad from the specials board and it was super tiny, I had to go home and eat because I was still hungry. The food tasted good, but not good enough for me to ever go there again.

If you are in the area and want a memorable meal, do not miss Lucrezia. My wife and I went there while on a mini vacation at the Dunes. The room we got in Porter was purely horrible! (I wrote a review about that dump)...so we wanted to make sure we had good meals. The staff was amazing, the food delicious...all in all the experience was memorable.

Great spot , excellent food n service, outdoor seating area is shaded and charming. Staff very attentive We had white pizza , rigatoni n sausage both delicious. Saw one of the kitchen staff picking herbs from one of the planters so obviously fresh n good food!

Love this place. I'm a Chicago local but have family in Chesterton, so whenever I'm in town we come to Lucrezia. I really like the veal meatballs with whole wheat penne, my cousin always gets the mussels with marinara. There's even something to say about their bread and olive oil they serve complimentary... That oil is SO rich and full of flavor. (I think they sell it to-go but I forget to check every time I'm there) Drinks are always fantasticccc, haven't had a bad experience. Very cute little place, great service.

My goodness has this place declined. What was a diamond is now a piece of coal. Stuffed chicken was overcooked and presented with mini carrots that came out of a bag with little seasoning.The parsnips and pear soup was attractively presented but tasted more like a sweet desert than a savory soup. Service at the bar was attentive and met expectations. $45 pre tip with one glass of wine would have been better spent at many of the higher end spots in Valpo.

Cozy little Italian restaurant. This is one of my parent's FAVORITE places, and they always stop by on the way home from Chicago (we live in Northwest Indiana). My mother is completely obsessed with the lamb shank. I had the seafood pasta the last time I was there - delish! I also like that they have the option for whole wheat or gluten free pasta. The scallop appetizer was divine! Good wine list. Live accordion was playing Havana Gilla which was pretty hilarious and kind of loud. Great dinning experience and I love the outdoor patio area in the summer time too :)

A hidden gem unless you're from the area, I guess. Highlighted in local restaurant guide and recommended by hotel staff. First, greeting and seating done nicely. Nice decor with outdoor and a few rooms inside. Wait staff very friendly and welcoming. Wine recommendation, right on. Okay, now the food. Ordered the onion, risotto, sausage special. Well done cooking staff. Ordered stuffed eggplant, which is one of my favorite vegetables and well cooked, not breaded ( which I dislike ). Recommend this dish. Friend had chicken Vesuvius (spelling?) and tasty, well seasoned. AlwYs a plus when the white meat is not dried out. Ended with mango sorbet, sweet and cleansing. Glad we checked it out.

I've been going here for quite sometime. The staff is always wonderful and very kind. They're familiar with me. I'm a good tipper too so that helps. It's small, but I've never had to wait longer than 20-30mins for a table. Most of the time I don't have to wait at all especially in the summer cause they have outside dining too. All entrees come with a vegetable and starch and the only complaint I have is I don't always like the vegetable (and sometimes starch). I guess it depends on what I'm having. I love the ck Vesuvio and that's usually my go to entree, but I would like a potato and maybe asparagus or green bean. Now I always get the potato but a couple times I got cooked carrots or red cabbage as a side and um, ya....me no likey that. A couple other dishes I ordered I got rice but I want a potato. They don't give you an option, so I figured what I get is what I get so maybe after 15+ yrs of going there I should ask right? Lol.....anyways, I'll keep going back. I like it no matter what. Mondays are 1/2 price bottle of wine so way worth it!
