Want some fast Italian food? Well, here ya' go! Pizzas, pastas, and ... What?!? GLUTEN-FREE section in an Italian place? You bet! GF pizza, pasta & salad selections. Let me heartily suggest the antipasto salad - perfectly flavorful with balsamic dressing. Husband liked the penne Alfredo with chicken & mushrooms. Lowdown: pick your basics & add things as you like. Also serving beer & wine (half a dozen or so choices of each, I think). We'll be back!

I was very pleasantly surprised by Father and Son's! The food was way beyond my expectations for a fast casual place. I ordered penne pasta with the tomato cream sauce and meatballs. It was wonderful! It came out surprisingly fast too. The price was pretty inexpensive as well. Overall, a great little hidden gem.

Fast food Italian... pizzas, sandwiches, pastas. Some things were good, some were just ok. They really need to work on their salads. They are really cheap with the amount of ingredients, and they look like a cafeteria salad. However, we tried the meatball sandwich on ciabatta, and that was good! We appreciated the chunky marinara sauce versus it being runny. The chicken/mushroom/spinach piazze was good too but maybe had too much cheese that it threw off the ratio of each bite since the crust is so thin. Worthy of a mention: The bathrooms are nearly immaculate! As someone who avoids public restrooms as much as possible, I was literally scanning the bathroom for something to cringe at but didn't see anything glaringly gross. Nice job!

This place was surprisingly great. My wife and I had admittedly had low expectations going in, we figured store front place with limited menu and cramped eating quarters. But it's absolutely nothing of the sort. It's modern, spacious and clean with gigantic booths. The menu has nice variety for lunch time. And the most important part, the food, was the best part of all. We had a salad and individual pizzas. The salad was fresh and crisp. The pizzas were hot, crispy, and very tasty. Both the salad and the pizzas looked like they were made with care, not pre-made and slapped in the oven. We will definitely be back.

The good: plenty of gluten free varieties and non-gluten free pizzas and pastas! The chicken, mushroom, and basil pizza was flavorful, and because it's flatbread style, eating a whole one won't ruin your myfitnesspal target. Interior is clean, and there are both tables and booths. It's order-at-cashier-and-receive-number style, and food is served to you. Easy parking in the lot! The bad: price point might be slightly higher than you would like for a meal that may not leave you as full for as long as you'd like. Snag a Groupon though, and you'll like the value!

We found this place through yelp (thanks, guys!) and couldn't be happier. Yum! It's one of those places where you order at the counter, get a number, and they bring the food out to you. We ordered the chicken, mushroom & fresh basil piazze (thin and crispy flatbread with whole mozzarella and homemade sauce) and it was GOOD. I'm a big fan of thin crust pizza and this was amazing. Generous on the toppings too. It was cut into 10 pieces, which made it easy to share. We also got the Southwest salad, which had mixed greens, chicken, bacon, corn, tomatoes, crispy tortilla strips with a Ranch vinaigrette. The salad was okay. It was a decent size and was fresh, but we probably wouldn't get it again just because the pizza was so good. We finished off with a hot toffee apple dessert pizza which was also delicious. It's a great size too for the price (just 3.45). The restaurant itself was very clean and was decorated simply but nicely. The manager was also very friendly. Easy parking, plus it's right across the street from Old Orchard mall, so this would be a great (and cheaper) alternative to the food court there!

Good place to eat after shopping at old orchard or in the strip mall it is in. They do make your own toppings aside from their specials. You can choose fltbreads, thin crust, pan pizza or deep dish. They habe kids menu, pizza dessert (smores) and Gluten free pizza. Also they serve wine and beer.

This place was very disappointing. We weren't able to get into Maggianos so we decided to eat here. Even though the prices were very reasonable, the quality of food was not impressive. MARGHERITA PIZZA = CPK frozen pizza version you get at any supermarket. FETTUCCINE ALFREDO = Kraft cheese has a better version ready made sauce available. GARLIC FLAT BREAD was a joke. GOURMET CHIPS was like eating heated up cape cod kettle potato chips. Only thing impressive about this place was its prices but increase it if this is the quality of product they are putting out there.

What a gem! Serene atmosphere with Tuscan scenes and soft music of what sounded like gondala singers. We came in, ordered, took a number to our booth and within mere minutes, our meals were on our table. They have dine in and carryout options. Everyone from the cashier to the manager to the server was polite. Manager, himself was checking cleanliness and that's the icing on the cake to me to return back! The veggie focaccia sandwich was a hit...with spice level just right. The egg piazze was interesting. The apple toffee pizza was a scrumptious! Overall, good food that's easy on wallet...what's not to like!

Ordered the personal pan pizza to go. The service was quick and friendly. The pizza was delicious. They found a new customer in me!

The place was very clean, and the staff was friendly. Had the meatballs, the margherita pizza, and the Thai chicken pizza, and it was terrific, especially the Thai chicken.

I think I'm really giving this place more of a 3.5 stars. It's one of those places that I wanted to like so much more than I actually did. I came with a friend for dinner on a Sunday night. It was not too busy, a few groups eating. We stared at the menu for a little while and then placed our orders. The staff is very friendly and service was great. The menu is actually bigger than I thought it would be. They have piazze's (like a pizza/flatbread), salad, pasta. sandwiches, and Abbe's gluten-free menu. They have quite a few gluten-free and vegetarian items which was good as my friend is vegetarian. After ordering we took a seat in one of the huuuge booths they have. These are seriously some long booths. I guess it's easier to accomodate larger groups of maybe 5-6 that way. They brought the dishes to our table after a few minutes. Portions were decent, about what you would expect from a fast-italian restaurant. I ordered the fusilli pasta with marinara sauce with the chicken on the side from the gluten-free menu any my dish was okay, but I don't think I'd order it again. I like my pasta more tender and maybe because it was gluten-free it was a little softer, and I found it to be a little bland. Besides their pasta I also have had their hot toffee apple dessert pizza which was pretty good, not overly sweet. I definitely want to come back and try some of their other options, I took a carry out menu and their sandwiches/salads/piazzes sound really good. Maybe I'll give the non-gluten-free pasta a chance. It's a very clean, very friendly restaurant with great options for vegetarians.

My sister has been eating Gluten Free for 15 years now. Most GF pizzas taste like cardboard or worse, sawdust. But not here! She declared this the best GF pizza she had ever had!!! The restaurant was clean, the staff friendly, and the food quick and tasty. We are already planning a return trip. It's super convenient after an afternoon of shopping at Old Orchard.

Stopped by to carry out a deep dish this evening. Was disappointed they were out of DD until I got the thin crust pizza I ordered instead home. In the land of deep dish the thin crust won! One of the best thin crust pizzas we've ever eaten - ample toppings, cheese, and much flavor. The staff was friendly and helpful (my first visit, had many questions) and friendly. Would encourage pizza lovers to give this place a try. Pepperoni, sausage, meatball, bacon and onion...oh my.

Waste of money. The food was terrible. That's the conclusion of my daughters and me. We went there around 7pm and no customers there, not even one. Since it has 4 star ratings at Yelp, I decided to give it a try. It was a big mistake.

Menu was a little confusing and food on the pricy side. And the place was kinda dead and lifeless. Pizza was weirdly shaped but tasted decent and crust crispy. I might come back but definitely no rush to do so.

  • Howard L.

It's a nice, new and clean place for a quick economic meal. The chicken, mushroom, and basil piazze was a great fresh light meal for $7.35. Spaghetti and meatballs was fine also at about $8.50. You order at a counter and it's brought to your table. It's also a nice location across from Old Orchard mall, so a nearby place to escape the mall congestion for a meal if that's any consideration.

super fast great quality foods. Love the size of their pizzas as the are kind of personal sized. However just had the antipasto salad and it was the best, it had every single ingredient I like and nothing was skimped on. Past sauce was delicious, like home made. Nice selections of beers and they even have smoothies.

I went here for a work lunch expecting typical heavy Italian pastas and sandwiches and I was happily proved wrong. While there definitely are options when you're in a carbo-loading mood, they have a nice variety of lighter options. I had the Thai Mushroom pizza which was totally delicious and unexpected. Who knew peanut sauce and mozzarella make a happy pair? Their pizzas all have a very thin crust and are cut into small square pieces so you don't feel like you have to stuff yourself to enjoy. My coworker had the chopped salad which looked fresh and light and came with dressing on the side. If you're looking for fast Italian that won't leave you in a food coma, I would definitely recommend Father & Son.

  • Shane E.

Had their Pizza recently as I was near Old Orchard. As "gluten-free" person, someone mentioned to try their version. I've been on a mission to find good gluten free pizza - if its even possible. I've tried many many many - in the city, burbs, big name places, little places, neighborhood places, etc. What I discovered is Father and Son's gluten free Pizza is AWESOME! Its a personal size, takes about 5 minutes to cook, and it actually tastes like real friggin pizza! Thank you and you have a loyal customer for life (as they know because I order every Friday around 7:30!).

  • Kathy L.

love the chicken thai pizza flatbread! if you are looking for fine dining this is not the place. If you are looking for a fast yummy dinner or lunch then YES go here! they bring your food to the table. the pizza is always good and the salads are good too! I would suggest getting a dessert pizza (my favorite is the berry berry) and split it. one is good for two people. i usually take some pizza home so i can have the dessert slices! Also if you are looking for a place to watch sports they have TVs! they also sell beer now!

I was here once, shortly after they first opened, and maybe they changed since then, but I have to base my review on my only experience. I remember the portions being so small that I had to order something else after my first meal bc it wasn't filling at all. I'd be willing to give them another shot bc it was in May of 2012 that I was there so I can only assume they've improved their portions. (I remember sitting in a booth in front of either one of the owners or managers, bc he was on his laptop working on the site or something and overheard my comment about the portions. Hopefully he took it to heart)

Tasty Pasta plates for $7, pizza, oven grinders, quick service and no waiters to tip; hence, they deliver food to your table. Italian music in the background is a bonus. I never met the father or son, mostly daughters working here. Overall clean place and I will visit again.

  • John W.

What a pleasant surprise! This may be some of the best pizza in town. Not so much a fast food place as a restaurant that serves very good food very quickly.

  • Lisa M.

I think this is a great place to take your kids after a soccer game. The pizza was surprisingly good (I had the barbeque chicken and my son had the margherita) and both were really good. The crust is really thin, crispy and well done. Another son had the pasta with marinara sauce and loved it. This is essentially a fast food stop that my kids all can agree on and everyone can find something they like on the menu and it isn't terrible for you. Pricey, a little, but that is ok given the food quality and cleanliness of this place.

    (4)
  • Jen F.

It was good. More of a chain restaurant than I would have thought. Flat breads are pretty small so if you are hungry but 2 or get a salad with it.

  • Mona M.

Ran in to pick up a quick lunch today. Got the penne marinara. Unfortunately the pasta was way over cooked and pretty much a pasta blob when I went to eat it. Very disappointed. Thought it would have been better.

Nice surprise for a random Friday night visit. The restaurant is clean, modern and comfortable. It was not too busy, and our food came out relatively quick and it was reasonably priced. We only got to try the margherita with meatball and spinach and sausage piazze but we liked what we got and that was definitely enough for 2 people. The pizzettes were thin and crispy and came out to our table within 5 min. of ordering. We will definitely add this to our rotation!

    (4)
  • Rick C.

This is my new go-to for thin crust personal pizzas. The piazze is a perfect size for one person and it's super, super thin and crispy. It's nice, because every piece is has a crust. Surprisingly good. We had the garlic spinach and sausage by recommendation. (Thanks, sleeveless customer in line!!) and the margherita with meatballs. I liked both a lot. The garlic was pretty prominent in the spinach which was nice but the margherita was more balanced for me. All in all, I'm ready to go back right now.

Gluten free pan pizza!!! Thank you for becoming my new favorite pizza place! Reasonable prices, good taste and fast service....need I say more?

  • Kait S.

Pasta and pizzas are good, if a little overpriced. The margarita pizza is really good as is the fetuccini Alfredo. The decor is really nice and the place is always clean.

The dessert pizza with blueberries and cranberries was excellent. I will come back just for that!

I would give them six if I could. Been a semi regular. It's near my office. Tonight I called in an order for Piazza and a salad. They said it would be ready in 15. 5 minutes later, a client shows up at my office and I will be delayed an hour. I called F&S and said just put my order in the frig and I'll pick up the food in an hour to reheat at home. 60 minutes go by and I called them to say finally on they way. When I showed up, they had a brand new HOT piazza waiting. I said they didn't have to do that but the owner said you can't leave with cold food. Classy! They know how to treat customers. Thanks.

Awesome little restaurant. Never noticed it before. A groupon brought here. 1st you must try the little dessert pizza. WOW. Both flavors are awesome cranberry/blueberry and apple toffee. Must haves and only $4.00! Pizza was awesome.Super thin crust. Perfect balance. We had the plain cheese and the Thai pizza. Both were excellent Super clean and inviting place. Awesome customer service. I sat outside and waited while pizza cooked and she brought it out to my car. Great place with great food.

I just had a craving for father and son's salad I had back in February. That also made me realize that I never left a review for this salad, I totally fell in love with. There vegetarian salad was just amazing. Perfectly chopped with a perfect mix of ingredients. This was by far the best vegetarian salad I had. Only one star off cause I wish they had choices of dressings cause I wasn't a fan of one I was given.

Came here for the first time for a Morton Grove Farmers' Market fundraiser. My family and I really enjoyed the antipasto salad, the chicken, mushroom and basil piazze, the spinach and garlic piazze, the very berry dessert pizza, and the hot toffee apple pizza. Food came out quick, whole grain crust was thin and crispy. Nice staff, especially Lindsey. ;) Will be back again!

First time here. Just opened early last month. They pronounce their pizza (pee-ah-tsay). I had the Gorgonzola cheese and candied walnuts (also had mozzarella & onions with no tomato sauce), a traditional Italian style thin crusted pizza that was very good. Veggie salad was tasty and salad dressing just right. Casual setting, nice booths and decor. Even the bathrooms are nice. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 stars...I tried all 3 desserts and they were okay, nothing to write home about. The apple dessert pizza did not have enough fruit. The blueberry pizza was good. And the brownie should have had some sauce or ice cream along with it, but alone; it was tasty. I will be back and great for kids and families since the booths are roomy enough for 8 people.

i wanted so much to give these guys a great review. after all, i had been to their original milwaukee avenue northwest side chitown location and always liked it. i considered it a blue collar, working class joint. now i know father and son in now in a few more upscale locations including this one near the highbrow old orchard mall in skokie. my first issue here is: this is the first pizza place i have EVER been to that did not give us a choice of pizza size. all pizza was served 16' style unless you buy the "personal pizza" (hint: where pizza places used to serve slices for 2-4$, now we have the overpriced "personal" size). i can only conclude this was an economic decision, forcing people to choose between the big one (around$18 starting) and the overpriced small one. so we ended up spending a bit more than we wanted. the pizza was not hot when we picked it up, despite being on time. the pizza was not bad, but was light on sauce and a little too thin for my taste (chicago thin pizza is not this thin ever. economic decision once again?) the crust was not crisp, being slightly soggy instead. still not a bad pizza at all but my expectations are always high in chicago for pizza. i cant help but believe the restaurant is tailor made for the area, high priced and exclusive (no choice for those who want a 10,12 or 14") with all the choices in chicago for pizza, i cant recommend this place other than for convenience (location). better to go to pequods in morton grove for thin or lou malnatis in lincolnwood for deep dish.

Menu was a little confusing and food on the pricy side. And the place was kinda dead and lifeless. Pizza was weirdly shaped but tasted decent and crust crispy. I might come back but definitely no rush to do so.

Thank you and you have a loyal customer for life (as they know because I order every Friday around 7:30!).

love the chicken thai pizza flatbread! if you are looking for fine dining this is not the place.

What a pleasant surprise! This may be some of the best pizza in town. Not so much a fast food place as a restaurant that serves very good food very quickly.

It was good. More of a chain restaurant than I would have thought. Flat breads are pretty small so if you are hungry but 2 or get a salad with it.

Pasta and pizzas are good, if a little overpriced. The margarita pizza is really good as is the fetuccini Alfredo. The decor is really nice and the place is always clean.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
