The food is good, known for their burgers! Although the Tee shirt sales seemed to stress our waitress out a bit. It was before they started getting busy. Too bad they don't have a small display case there you can see what they had.

The burgers here are the best around. Aside from it being small with tightly packed seating, this place is kick ass. Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is cozy. Waitress was very nice and our group felt very welcomed. Highly recommend to anyone who has driven by but hasn't stopped in.

One of the best burgers I've had! Small place so get there early. Worth the wait tho.

Went to Brandt's in Palatine last night. Arrived at 7:15 got a table at 7:50. No problem there, there is usually a bit of a wait. Ordered right away. 8:45 and no food in sight. I did however notice that carry-out orders were "flying" out of the kitchen in record speed. At this point 6 tables were occupied but none had received their meal. When I noticed a party of 7 seated across from us, 45 minutes earlier, still had not received their food I knew something was amiss. One member in our party ordered pretzels which took 30 minutes to arrive. At 8:50 we asked for our check as we had no desire to wait any longer for our food. Just as we were about to leave our waitress told us our food would arrive at any minute. Too late. We told Jodie- the manager on duty of our dissatisfaction and she was very apologetic and professional but had no explanation for the delay. We have been patrons of Brandt's for 35 years and have never experienced this. My question is who's decision was it to fill all the carry -out orders before the people actually sitting in the restaurant?

It would be nice if they posted closed on Sunday. Jus pulled up and they are closed on Sunday. Most businesses have it on the Website or Yelp alerts you they are closed.

I discovered Brandt's about 2 years ago through a friend's recommendation. The Brandt's Burger is seriously one of the greatest things that has ever happened to me. I take my kids here with me whenever I go, and I'm the guy that always puts Creedence on the jukebox. Love this place!!

An excellent joint. Packed with friendly locals. The food was excellent. Started the night off with some cheese curds, the cheese tasty, the dough light and airy, with honey mustard to dip it in. Recommended. The burgers.. Where do I begin? You HAVE to order a burger. It's necessary. I had a burger with Munster, bacon, mushrooms, and all of the toppings.. The burger was cooked to perfection, just the right amount of fat in the meat. Don't forget the Mac and cheese, heavenly. Worth it, has a lot of cheesy punch. The coleslaw slightly peppery. And the house made chips, excellent. The boy had buttered burger with american and the toppings it comes with. The steak fries were tasty. Only downfall, our server was delightful, but it took a bit of time to get the check and to also have it picked up to run the card. Also, during hawks games, the area we sat in, down the stairs, the volume needed to be up a bit more so we can hear the TVs! But we're definitely coming back in the future, many many times. This place is heaven

Happen to be in the area and was invited to have lunch there with a friend who lives in Palatine and knows the area well. This spot has a great burger!! Nothing fancy or anything but the burger tastes really good and is very fresh. Service was good and I overall the place was crowded for a Friday. Given that this place looks like a house, the interior also feels cozy and you feel like you are in someones house having dinner/lunch! If I am ever back in that area I would definitely go back to this place for another burger!

Great food marred by horrible customer service... Don't let them seat you in the basement if they ask, unless you want to be ignored for the night. Had to ask another waitress to get our waitress two separate times. Then after getting our food, we didn't see her until we got check - otherwise I would have told her that my medium burger was still bright red inside. Food was great, but I sure didn't feel taken care of.

Back at Brandts, after 15 years. My friend said it has not changed except it's been remodeled. Walking in the door nothing has changed. A remodel that looks 15 years in the past!!!! It does not matter. This burger is still one of the best in the Chicagoland area. Yum. Yes it has a small menu. It is famous for burgers...not enchiladas, not ribs, not pasta,#SoGetABurger!!! Even the coleslaw is Yum!

Awesome food! Great people. Little crammed inside at times but takeout is awesome! The burgers are delicious. The buns are fresh. The fries are almost always crispy. The fish is also very good.

Remember going there when I was a kid as lived in one of the houses nearby. And we moved out of the area. Now 30ish years later...with new owners I am very impressed on how much they have changed/updated. Im now back in the area. Very friendly staff and very attentive. Order was right. Best burgers in the area hands down. I have a hard time finding places that does preztel bun burgers. They had different choices of buns... pretzel bun , sesame, sourdough and others I forget. Tonights order was pretzel bun, cheddar and medium done. Perfectly cooked, juicy. Got steak fries and they trumped Red Robins fries. Quality of the meat also was great as well. The cheddar portion was generous as well. Melted into some of steak fries which I love cheesy fries added to the mix. Also liked their mac and cheese. The coleslaw was on the sweet side freshly made. The price is kind of a good deal for the portions as its huge burger and fries portions and quality. I am definitely coming back.

Since moving to Palatine at the end of November 2014, so many people I've met have said Brandt's has the best hamburgers. So, I went this evening and found out they were all right! Brandt's is an old school burger. Nothing fancy here. Just lettuce, tomato, onion and your choice of cheese cooked to your wellness and guaranteed delicious! Loved their coleslaw! This will be a multiple visits per month joint for me! The one piece of advice I would give you is, don't go on a Friday or Saturday night. They have very limited seating and the wait time for a table is often an hour or longer. I've never had to wait for a table on a week night.

Brandt's is ok - they didn't blow me away, but I don't hate it. When I came in, I immediately noticed how there wasn't very much room at all. The tables are squished together (we ended up sitting at one right by the bathroom), you have to squeeze through people at the bar to get to your table or the bathroom, and the tables themselves are pretty small. Cozy would be putting it nice. I like to have a little more room to move. The menu is pretty limited - one burger that you can customize with your choice of potato, some other sandwiches, soups, and salad. I got the burger, which was very tasty and juicy. I really don't have any complaints about the food or the prices. It's good for what you pay. They also have a decent selection of beers on draft and bottled. The service was meh. When I first walked in I wasn't greeted. I had to ask if you seat yourself or if someone is supposed to seat you. When I was seated, I had a choice between 2 tables, neither of which had much room. Our waitress was a little snippy at first, but got better later on. I would come back, but it wouldn't be my first choice. I definitely wouldn't come here with a big group of people.

Worst service I have ever had. My daughter and I went for a dinner. We ordered an appetizer after which our waitress promptly disappeared.. 25 minutes later I had to look for someone to help. When the waitress finally came back, our appetizer order hadn't been entered. So another 20 or so minutes go by and we finally get our appetizer and order dinner. A half an hour after that the waitress comes back and tells us the cook left and we won't be getting anything. We arrived at Brandts about 6:15. We left after 8pm only having an appetizer. They comp'd the dinner but I will never go back. I get being busy. I get mishaps. But there was no communication or honesty about what was going on. That is ridiculous.

Brandts has been remodeled and looks great!!!Amy was our server and she was great!!!When we came in there was a wait upstairs but found the basement to be open seating . So we chose to sit down there which was nice and cool on a humid day. We started with cheese curds they are a must they are battered like fish and chips and come with 3 sauces. The homemade garlic ranch was the best!! We also ordered the sunrise burger which wasn't listed on the menu but has a fried egg bacon cheddar cheese and your choice of bun we choose the butter bun for around $11 came with your choice of fries homemade chips and came with with coleslaw. We ordrred a full slab of ribs and meat fell off the bone it was so tender. Our friend ordered the corned beef sandwich on rye . The meat so tender and chopped with sauerkraut. The beer selection was great too some nice ipa s... dogfish head, founders and anti hero. They also had Guinness, Stella ,miller, etc. If in the Palatine area stop in for a great burger cheese curds

Brandt's is undoubtedly the best burger joint in Palatine. Not just because of the awesome burgers and "you got your money's worth" drinks, but they treat every customer there like they are family. Every time I go in there before I even sit down the bartender says "the usual?" And Even though they ask me how I'd like my burger cooked each time I order it, I'm sure they already know. When ordering, they are so particular about how you'd like your burger even going as far as asking if you would or would not like lettuce, tomato, grilled or raw onion. They'd rather take the time to ask customers instead of you waste your time picking off what you don't want. All of this has been the Brandt's tradition since it has been there. Anyway I give 5 stars to a place that no doubt deserves it!

Nice little beer and shot bar atmosphere but for a bar burger place...very poor value. Way too costly for below average food and service. Not really a destination location and the chances of me going back are very slim.

Although this appears to be my first review of Brandt's, we've dined here many times over the years and I am certain I've review it before. However, with the change in ownership last year, Yelp must have created a new profile. We ate at Brandt's last over a month ago and the experience was great. I posted an updated review complimenting the staff about how much better the place was under new management. But, I hope our experience this night was just a bad night. We were seated right away. Brandt's is small, and we were put at a table that was crowded in by other tables leaving little room for movement. The waitress was energetic, but was not attentive. We placed our order shortly after sitting down. It took her about ten minutes to deliver my drink, a coke. We were all talking and didn't realize it until we checked, but 1/2 hour passed before they finally delivered our food. Two items (three people in our party) had to send food back. My hamburger was supposed to be cook medium - their burgers are at least 1/2 pound and usually great. But one side of mine was charred and the other side was raw. Well, I guess if you take the average of them it was medium? I didn't mention that the fries were under-cooked. They were apologetic and said they would replace the burger, which they did. The second burger was fine, and the fries were still under-cooked but better than before. One hot button of mine is the server's attentiveness to drink refills. I drank my coke while waiting for the meal to be served. When they dropped off my second burger, they ran off quickly and did not notice all three of us had empty glasses. I was finally able to flag her down and ask for refills, but they really should watch for that. I'm disappointed about this visit. While I don't consider myself a regular, we've been there over a dozen times over the years, and three times since they changed owners last year. So, again, I'm hopeful this was just a bad day for them. But, it was memorable for us in an unsatisfying way. I really hope they get their act back together or they will lose some of their hard earned customers.

Don't expect high end dining here. this is a great local beer/burger joint that does it right. can it be overcrowded? Yes, but its a BAR. the burgers are among the best in Chicago land area.

The Brandt's burger is fire! Best burgers in the area. Order it with a pretzel bun, it's delicious. The place gets busy very quickly during lunch, which is the only time I've ever been here. The place is on the small side so get there early. Friendly and prompt service, and the burgers were cooked perfectly. If you're craving a burger, this is a must try spot.

Go for the 5 pack of sliders. Better than the regular burger. Ask for your fries to be crispy or they can be mushy. The ribs are really good and paired with some deep fried shrimp; really really good!

I finally visited Brandt's after they reopened with a slightly different name (Brandt's of Palatine instead of Brandt's Little Cafe). Upon entering, I noticed that there was very little change from the last time I was here, which is good because I loved the character of the little cafe. The downstairs area looks like it was the most renovated, now there's a TV & a few high top tables with stools compared to what appeared to be maybe a total of 2 tables before. They used to have a small illuminated board with a few menu items, now they have a regular menu which has a lot more choices than before which was a much needed change. Their burgers haven't changed which is phenomenal, but now they give you some choices to go along with your burger. Each one comes with 2 sides, you can choose from fries, chips, sweet potato fries, cole slaw. mac & cheese, veggies & maybe 1 or 2 other things. You can also pick which kind of bun you want, I opted for the pretzel but found that it was tougher to bite through than your typical buttered bun. The fact that they added a whole appetizer section to their menu makes me want to stop in, have a few drinks at the bar/downstairs & order some appetizers instead of a full blown meal like I've been accustomed to. Make sure to check out the historical significance of the building when you're reading the menu, it's a trip to picture this place back in the prohibition days!

Got Brandt's to-go tonight. It was delicious! Even after the drive home the fries were still crispy! That's an accomplishment for take out. The only reason I'm giving only 4 stars is because I would like to see a little more diverse menu. What we had was delicious, but we had to compromise on our food choices.

I've been going to Brandts Little Cafe for years and was heartbroken when they closed their doors... But now that they have reopened, my heart has been mended. The food is excellent with great new additions to the menu. My personal weakness are the sweet potato fries. They are KILLER.... and addicting! The new owners did the place justice!!! It's hard to change a regular's place and make them like the place more. My entire family are regulars now... three generations brought up on Brandt's. Have to love a place that can make the whole family happy! You have to check them out for classic pub food with some surprising twists.

Brandt's is an OLD family favorite....The burgers were outstanding...good old fashioned juicy burgers. Wine and beer selection was good...the Wine I had was very nice just a little high priced for a location like this. The only reason we didn't put a 5 start...was the service. Waitress was nice, but felt she was rushing us at one point and forgot us at another. Not a reason to never go back though....look forward to the next time!

Cool joint to just hang out at. Food and beers are decent. But watch out for that burger, it can be a slippery mess to eat.

  • Carol L.

By far the best burgers in the suburbs. They are cooked to order so it takes some time for them to come out, no problem, this is not a fast food restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy but crowded, you have to keep in mind that this is a historic building. But the food is delicious, I tried the fries and other appetizers and wasn't disappointed a bit. The drinks are generous in size and not overpriced. Service is good but not the best, they seem to be able to get the food out in the right time but don't seem to always be able to keep the beverages replaced. This issue would never keep me from going back, definitely a must try.

I can honestly say brants has the best burger in the Chicagoland area and yes I've had kumas. It's small and a bit cramped inside but the service is good and the staff are friendly. Get a pretzel bun and I like the sweet potato fries. A bit pricey but worth it.

    (5)
  • Mark J.

I come here just for the burgers. The restaurant is very small and the noise from the bar carries over. Despite this, the Brandt's burger is just too good to pass up. It comes with a myriad of bun and cheese selections, and the fries it comes with are delicious. Very reasonably priced for the large portion. I'd recommend the Brandt's burger on a pretzel bun with American cheese, and the homemade fries.

Classic palatine staple. Like being in a north woods tavern. New owners have put lots of $ into upgrades, but old charm still there . Great burgers, solid food, excellent bar, great prices and happy helpful service . Can't wait to see if they add outdoor seating. Must stop by

  • Itachi L.

The food here is superb and beyond delicious, the staff here is really nice and would do anything to live up to their expectations, the only thing that seems weird is some prices but oh we'll, it's worth it

  • M S.

Simply updated decor and remodeled 'wine room' makes Brandt's of Palatine a 'new' old favorite! The sliders on the appetizer menu are a nice touch for people looking to get that classic Brant's flavor in a smaller portion. Sweet Potatoe fries are a nice addition to the newly updated menu. The bar scene is still the same, Tommy and all... and that's a good thing! Service is excellent! Can't wait for them to *hopefully* expand!

Best burgers in Palatine or the vicinity. Period. Since the reopen, the quality of the service went WAY up, too. The new butter bun is incredible, and they're always cooked to perfection. Other things we've ordered have been just fair...like the boneless wings, mac & cheese or the pretzel appetizer. But the burgers bring tears to my eyes they're so good...every time.

I went get a burger, but i am not eating wheat or dairy.I ordered the burger with grilled onions lettuce and tomato. The waitress was super generous with the lettuce leaves and the tomato. I made lettuce wraps with the burgers. The burger was perfectly cooked. Thank you to my waitress who made my bun less burger experience worth a return trip soon

Excellent burger. Decor way to cramped. And if you need to use the restroom-good luck getting around the tables.

Had lunch at Brandt's yesterday. Food was excellent and the place looks pretty much as it did before the new owners took over. Was with a friend and we both had the Brandt burger..just as good as before. Also had the fresh chips with ranch dressing...prefect with my burger. The new owner, Walt came over to see if everything was OK which was cool. Price was right and there is something good about supporting a local business.

I used to go to Brandt's at least once a week for lunch, but although the quality of the food is the same, since they re-opened I'm always afraid to. It seems that the kitchen now is always really slow. I only have 1 hour for lunch so I give them a try about once a month to see if they have fixed the problem and today was the day. I just ordered the hamburger which is what they are famous for and it took 40 minutes to get the food. It's a burger not a 7 course meal. That means I had to eat it too fast so that I could get back to work. Val kept my glass of tea full, and kept telling me it would be soon, but waiting 40 minutes for a burger means it is going to be awhile before I go back again.

Nice to have a great burger place close by. The new owners have fixed up the place but kept the old charm, At our table we tried burgers, chili and ribs - all were excellent. Must order the home made chips on the side.

This is the first time I've ever written a review for anything but I felt compelled to share my family's experience. Our friends Tom and Patty invited us to dinner last night at the newly renovated Brandt's of Palatine. When we arrived at 6:30 the place was packed and I thought my kids were going to spiral into a food depraved meltdown having to wait for a table. I was pleasantly surprised when one of the owners, who introduced himself as Jim, offered to send over a complimentary appetizer to hold us over. We ordered a round of beers, Stella on tap, and were soon enjoying a delicious concoction of homemade chips smothered with blue cheese, tomatoes and bacon. Now I didn't think the kids would like this, but to my surprise they cleaned the plate. I could have eaten this appetizer as a meal it was so good but I'm glad I left room for the rib dinner which was tender and very meaty, just the way I like them. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich and sweet potato fries and the kids had the burgers with homemade fries. Everything was cooked to perfection and came out in a timely manner. Our waitress was very attentive bringing out the food per my wife's request "as soon as it's ready". I really liked the vibe the place had, a cross between an English pub and the old supper clubs of prohibition days. When I mentioned this to the owner, he said "That's amazing you should say that because the building that is now Brandt's was possibly owned at one time by Al Capone". Well, I thank our friends for introducing us to this little gem in Palatine and I look forward to dining there again soon. Brian B

The food was alright - given the prices and wait however, I expected to get better food. The food for me in general lacked a good texture and could've had more refined flavor combinations. Most notably, the burger really lacked flavor in the meat (could've used some more seasoning or wood/charcoal grilling) and could've used a well toasted bun. The steak fries and sweet potato fries were simply soggy with no crispyness at all. The homemade chips and baked beans tried to do too much in terms of flavor and as a result, didn't really present a clear theme. The BBQ ribs were too dry and lacked flavor. Given the other good reviews, maybe I came when they were too busy and would get a better experience if I came at a slower time.

  • Amanda K.

Excellent food and their staff is incredibly friendly. Their burgers are amazing! Only thing to be aware of is that it's super small inside. If you go with more than 4 people, the wait is really long because there just isn't room.

I've seen Brandt's driving by and had always wanted to go. From the outside it looks like an antique looking house, turned restaurant/bar so it caught my eye. Last night my friend recommended we go so there was my chance. As we walked in, we didn't get greeted right away so I was a little confused, but sure enough our waitress seated us and was very nice. The place is smaller than what I expected but cozy. The menu is very small. Just some appetizers, a simple burger that you can customize, and a few higher end items. Everyone raves about their burgers and sure enough they were right! One of the best burgers in Palatine!

  • Emily C.

Cozy neighborhood favorite. My burger was excellent, perfectly cooked with a side of homemade fries. The seating a little uncomfortable but it's a small price to pay IMO you can't get quality non chain restaurants just anywhere and I'm happy to support this favorite.

  • Lynne H.

You'd never really guess that Brandt's is a restaurant when you drive by, it has a slightly 'haunted house' vibe to it from the outside. Once inside that vibe turns into an over crowded but friendly neighborhood bar feel. We were a party of six and were seated at a table in the corner and were so wedged in that it was impossible for most of us to get up if we had to without the rest of the table also getting up. It really is a tiny restaurant with a few too many tables. I've been to Brandt's several times and I usually stick with their specialty, the Brandt burger, and this time was no exception. I like my burgers pink and juicy, and this one was cooked pretty close to well done even though I had ordered it medium. No worries though, it was good. The burgers are pretty giant and I happily took half home for lunch the next day. The bar area is small and only has two small TVs, so if you're looking for a place to watch a game this may not be the best bet. Overall - good food, really good service but a little bit small and crowded.
