This is the best quick cheap Chinese place in town! Do not miss their Combination Fried Rice, it is a meal in itself! Don't come expecting fancy gourmet Chinese food, this is a hole in the wall family owned neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Their fried rice is highly addictive, I find myself craving it when I haven't had it in awhile. Their pot stickers are HUGE too. If you want to order to go, call ahead and you're order will be ready when you get there. The staff is extremely friendly. You will never leave Mee Jun hungry for more food, but you will be hungry to return very very soon!

Go for lunch! They have amazingly gigantic portions and the food is pretty food for the price. The food itself isn't necesarily authentic Chinese but is a good version of Americanized Chinese food. Can't go wrong with Lunch at Mee Jun- If you plan on working after lunch at Mee Jun, good luck!!!

My take-out place! Good, plentiful, fast and friendly and always willing to make menu changes on request. Not oily, none of that tongue-slimy aftertaste that another on the street has.

Great and abundant Chinese fare! This place is always busy because it's got great prices and good food. I like that they're very generous with the sauces and the egg rolls are amazing! This place is not a life changing experience! it is convenient fast and a good deal. Definitely worth checking out...

Really like this place. I think they have my favorite fried rice in the Chicagoland area. It's a tad on the greasy side, so go in expecting that. This is not authentic Chinese food, but it is good American Chinese food. Besides their fried rice, another notable thing I like is the beef skewers. Fried peanuts are also very tasty. It is counter service, so order, take a seat, and they'll bring it out. Staff is very friendly and the space is always clean. Easy to park there also. I always drop by here when I'm in the area.

I loved this restaurant the moment I walked in the door, which was too many years ago to name. I especially like their shrimp fried rice. My absolute favorite though are the meaty barbecued spareribs. Yum yum. Nobody makes them like Mee Jun. Try them you'll like them.

Talk about HUGE portions. If you cant feed 2 people for $20 and more than likely have leftovers, then something just ain't right. By far the biggest pot stickers i have ever seen. As far as taste, i cant say they are the best i have ever had but they are far from the worst. I guess i would call it mediocre but definitely would visit them again if i was short on cash and had a massive craving for Chinese food. This is only based on the food i have tried there, which is the beef lo mien, sweet/sour pork, and pot stickers. The lo mien wasn't exactly what i was expecting but good none the less.

I never trust reviews of suburban restaurants, mostly because these north shore suburbanites seem to have no idea what good food is. Dynasty Chinese is the number one rated Chinese place around here, followed by PF Changs. Need I say more? I rest my case. Note, this rating is based strictly on the food, the restaurant itself is kinda dingy, takeout recommended. Dynasty? Yuck. Little Szechwan? Not bad, but pricy. Everything in Highland park? Decent but costly. After trying over seven restaurants in the area, this is the clear winner. The portions are massive. The "small" size is more than enough for 2 people for any item. Now, the size isn't all that they do well. The food here is home made, and fresh. Never frozen. Egg rolls rolled there, crab rangoons prepped there, and everything else, from the veggies to the meat is fresh to death. The potstickers are just as good as the ones I ate on my travels throughout China. Oh and they are huge as well, not your average dinky dumpling. (They take minimum 20 minutes, so call ahead for these) Oh yeah, and for 25 cents, they will upgrade all of your rice to fried rice, and their rice is amazing. So for $20, you can get 2 small entrees, order egg rolls and fried rice, with enough left over for 2 more meals! I usually don't write reviews these days. But when I saw this place getting no love I had to step in and set the record straight. BEST. CHINESE. EVAR. (in the burbs).

Mediocre chinese food at best. Small restaurant that would be best for take out. It's ok for what it is---cheap chines food.

This Chinese restaurant has been in Highwood for many years. The quality of the food remains the same, but their service has been going down the drain. Awful service!!! Their fried rice is good. It is well cooked with many interesting combination of ingredients but a bit greasy. The egg roles and crab Rangoons are good. Not the frozen kind. They are big and always hot and tasty. Definitely something to try. The service of this establishment is really bad. The cook, owner or whoever manages the restaurant is extremely frugal. I have order countless of times for three people and they only give me one tiny container of hot sauce, and a couple of packages of soy sauce. One hot sauce is not enough for two containers of rice, which by the way last for days, egg roles and crag Rangoon. In the past they used to give you more. Now they are just cheap and rude when you ask for more, not to mentioned the fact that you have to pay $1.25 for more sauce. Once I called for take out and they got my order wrong. I called to let the restaurant know, and they were just plain rude saying it was my fault. No customer service at all! Last time I order from that place!

I've been coming here for years. Love the fried rice. It's actually the only thing I order. Maybe an egg roll sometimes. Love the spiciness of the rice. It can be greasy sometimes. Only thing I can recommend is not to order before closing. The food tastes off.

I hate when Asian places tell you 20 minutes for take out, and then it takes 40. And unlike the trend of fine dining that has emerged in Highwood over the past 10 years, this restaurant hasn't followed suit. I would describe this as the style and quality of Asian food you receive at a shopping mall food court. For what it is, they have a large dining area, but you're essentially ordering food to go, to dine-in. There's no table service, which begs the question of why they even have seating to begin with. There are too many other good Asian options in the area at varying price points to settle for Mee Jun Chop Suey.

Love their shrimp fried rice, best ever!! I also like their sweet and sour shrimp and their Mongolian beef. They do give you a lot of food for your money! I always drive all the way out there from Stickney because I love their food!!

Hmmmm, seems sketchy but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was pretty good (orange chicken, shrimp friend rice, homemade pot stickers, mongolian beef) and the value was outstanding. For $30, we had leftovers for 3 days. KEY: My KIDS even enjoyed all of it!

Finally we have found normal, solid and affordable Chinese food! Great portion size, family enjoys it. It's the best of the take out chinese in our area. Hot, fast and tasty. Also staff is nice during the pick up. Offering delivery would be nice :)

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
