Hubby and I went here on New Years Day for dinner. He was a bit under the weather, so we picked an easy place close to us. No fuss, no muss. I can't say this is the best chinese food I've had, but I would go back. Wego the pot stickers. Eight came in the order and they were chewy and very good. I got szechuan shrimp and chicken. Hubby got Kung Pao chicken. We had brown rice (nice touch). There was too much sauce on mine and not enough shrimp/chicken. Hubby liked his. We didn't share, so I can't comment on the kung pao. A table near us had egg foo young, which looked very good. I also heard a young woman order steamed chicken and vegetables. Her dish looked fresh and great! I'm thinking I may do that next time and just ask for a spicy sauce on the side. It was cold in the restaurant, but we sat right by the heater, so that saved the day!

We've been customers for years. We ordered last night and were shocked. They have new owners and it was horrible. The food wasn't cooked all the way and the food that was cooked was terrible. The chicken in the broccoli chicken was slimy. I called and asked if they were new owners and they said yes as of July 1st. We'll never go back.

As you can see, despite my last review, we're still coming to this establishment for the rare times we order Chinese. It's the better option we've found in the area and my kids love the chicken tenders appetizer.

Flavorless! I wanted to enjoy the food, I wanted to find a reasonably priced option for Chinese food nearby. The eating area is more of an accommodation than restaurant. On this cold night in January we were seated at the table of honor in as much as having a space heater pointed at you can be called an honor. The sticky table and dingy atmosphere were noted but some of my best meals have been in dumps, so we soldiered on. The prices are reasonable but not shockingly low. We ordered the pot stickers (fine), egg drop soup (tastes like mix but blander), sweet and sour chicken (over fried and swimming in sauces) Mongolian beef (flavorless) and mushroom fried rice (too salty). In short the $50 bill was not worth the food and I don't know what others saw in this place.

Excellent food at reasonable prices! They even have brown rice available on request, which is unusual for the Midwest. The food is fresh and not greasy. It is made to order and to your requested level of spice. They do not use MSG, which is a HUGE plus. They also have take-out available, and is a great place to get a lot of good quality, fresh food for parties or events with your friends.

I did take out there recently on a Friday night for the first time. It was about 7:30 and the restaurant was empty....not a single customer. Needless to say I was concerned! We ordered three entrees, snow pea & shrimp, cashew chicken and Mu shu pork. All three were average at best. The food was generally bland and almost tasted institutional. Now I have a pretty good idea why there were no customers!

So delicious! I order out from here about once a month. I get the chix/broccoli dish with extra sauce (and i out it over white rice). So good. Also love their house egg rolls. And if you eat-in, you get complimentary hot tea - so good. Love this place!

This restaurant is located at the end of a strip mall south of the McDonalds on Sheridan Rd. It has shared parking with other stores in the mall. I drove by this place all the time and decided to give it a try. When I go to a new Chinese restaurant I always benchmarking them by ordering the same thing, egg roll and Kung Pao Chicken. Simple dishes but you can tell a lot about their cooking from what they do to these dishes. The egg roll is relatively small and bland. Kung Pao Chicken is made to order and the vegetables are fresh, it doesn't taste bad but nothing special; highly Americanized Chinese Food. Most of us can whip this up at home. The price is in-line for the area but not really a bargain. If you look around you can find a better place in this area.

Very tasty Chinese! I got the Kung pao chicken and I didn't want to stop eating it! They have 3 spicy levels: mild, medium, and spicy... I would get the highest one if you like it spicy. The woman behind the counter was also very polite. You can tell that the food is fresh.

5 stars because this is my fiance's favorite Chinese place. During college he would hang out and study here, so he has a soft spot for House of Peking. We stopped in here for a quick dinner while in the 'hood. House of Peking is really small and simple, but the food is hot and tasty. The egg rolls were really good as was the moo shu and orange chicken. Prices are great for the amount and quality of food. Super friendly staff. It's in a strip mall, so keep your eyes peeled or you might miss it.

Ok, so I really HATE fake Chinese food. However, this place makes it really good and with high-qaulity ingredients. Prices are in line with portions....And their light sauce is to die for! MMMMM.....So, if you find yourself in the restaurant Mecca of the Northshore, stop by the little strip mall on Sheridan here and you won't be disappointed if you like "Chinese" food. Added bonus- they have some killer curries too!

Quite good for Americanized Chinese food. We ordered crab rangoon, which actually had discernible crab (or more likely crab-flavored whitefish) in addition to cream cheese. We will definitely order take-out in the future, dining in is a little dreary. Food is fairly priced.

They have the best chicken fried rice of anywhere I've ever been. There must be crack in it. So incredible for something so simple.

Some of the best vegetarian tofu dishes I have ever had in my life, let alone at a Chinese restaurant. Such yummy food and the best veg potstickers I have ever had! Favorite place in highwood hands down! Pricy but worth it.

Consistently excellent food. Fabulous pot stickers. Fresh tasting chicken in the sweet and sour chicken. My son makes short work of the crab Rangoon. More than anything great service and wonderful people.

Just OK. Ordered the sweet and sour chicken as well as the sesame chicken dishes. The chicken is drenched in their sauces. I am not a big fan of their sauces either. Seems like the sesame and sweet and sour were the same flavor. I will not be returning for their food. Gave them three stars because the costumer service was great!

Dinner time in the middle of the week on multiple occasions, it was just my husband and I, party of two, eating in. Not sure how many people actually eat here but a ton of people do take-out orders. So even though it doesn't appear to be busy with people filling up the tables, the back of the house remains busy with delicious food cooking. Certain circumstance call for take-out, and I typically find the mom and pop establishments (like this, where the locals go) to be better than those restaurant chains. There's always more food to go around, they understand "family style," and the food comes out fast (which works out great when you're extremely hungry). I wish I had photos to share, not just because they covered our table, but because it all not only looked delicious it was delicious.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
