Great little hot dog place in Elmhurst. Like going for a quick lunch, and if your lucky enough to get a table because of all the kids here.

His place does not have anything without meat. I was hoping they would have a shrimp basket and they don't have that available. The only thing Is pepper and egg and sides that have no meat.

Since I moved from the city, I've been searching for a great gyros place. I've tried every place in the area, except Southtown until today. Hands down the best gyros in the western suburbs. It was huge! Fries and hotdogs are excellent as well. This is my only spot for a gyros moving forward.

Great Little spot in Elmhurst just south of the Prarie Path at the corner of York and Vallette. I have to say that this corner seems to build up every year with great little shops and of course Verlare Cleaners. I don't go very often, maybe once a year, but eveytime I do I think why don't I come back more often. There hot dogs are very good, much better than the big box by K-Mart.....plus local!!! Their shakes are amazing. The place is a little smallish, but I think that makes it have a better feel. In the summer they have seating outside. Large parking lot just to the east of it except on Wednesday morning in the summer due to the farmers market (which is spectacular). Big fan

I really want to give Southtown Hot Dogs four stars, but I can't. It's not because I don't like their hot dogs, they're good and a good value. I'm just not a fan of their french fries. They look like McDonald's fries, but aren't as good as McDonald's. Also, there's something really funky about the ketchup they use. I don't think it's Heinz. It tastes very vinegary (if that's a word). The place is always busy and it's a good stop, but if they improve the fries, it would be a great stop and worthy of four stars. As of this writing there are ninety-six restaurants in Elmhurst. I plan on eating at, and reviewing, every one. Follow me on Yelp!

Southtown Hot Dogs is a tiny little eatery located right at the intersection of Vallette and York Road in Elmhurst. There is an attached parking lot with a fair number of parking spaces and a handful of tables inside. In stopping by Southtown I decided it would be a wise decision to try out the hot dog. I placed my order and within a few minutes a hot dog and fries was ready. The hot dog here came on a classic Chicago style poppy seed bun. The bun was soft, no signs of dryness and was prepared well. The pickle slice used here wasn't too thick, too thin or too sour. The tomato slices were a bit on the thick and sloppy side. There was a tad too much celery salt applied to this hot dog, the sport peppers were good with just the right amount of spicy to add to the dog. The mustard, onion and relish were all well applied and the skinless sausage on the dog was well heated and tasted. Overall this was a solid example of a Chicago style hot dog. Also included with the dog were long shoestring style fries, these were very good fries as well. They were a little on the salty side but had a nice amount of flavor, were crisp enough to get a good bite out of and had a tasty potato paste. Overall these were well above average fries. I left Southtown Express being quite impressed and would say they are well above average for a Chicago style hot dog stand. I am going to give them four stars. They have a good hot dog and good fries.

Driving by the colors caught my eye, yes! A local mom and pop hotdog joint, nice! After the quick and friendly order taker was done the food was ready fast. The Chicago Style dog was one of the best I've eaten, perfect! Warm poppy seed bun, sport peppers, fresh tomato slices, celery salt, etc done right! Yes, the dog had that perfect snap to it. The fries were fresh out of the fryer, piping hot, and perfectly done, in my opinion better than McDonald's! Definitely will come back :-)

A real small somewhat overpriced hot dog stand in an isolated end of Elmhurst. Nothing too great about this place and their selections are small. It is right next to the praire path where you can stroll and walk away your calories.

I had a taste for a hot dog and didn't feel like paying Portillio's prices so I decided to give Southtown a try, I'm glad I did. The food was tasty and hot, service was friendly and quick. I will definitely go back!

What a great little find this place was. Hot dog stands are certainly a dime a dozen in Chicagoland, but this one was just good enough, and had just enough quirk to make it stand out amongst the monotony. The hot dog itself was great. A nicely cooked, juicy vienna dog on a steamed poppy seed bun with the toppings of your choice. I know it sounds odd to say, but the onions seemed especially good here. It just goes to show, getting quality ingredients for even the little details can make the overall product that much better. The fries were great and crispy, just the way I like them. No squishy soggy, crinkle cut fries here. My wife and I split a dreamsicle milkshake which was positively fantastic. Sure, plenty of hot dog places have shakes, but at Southtown, the ice cream they use seems to be an even bigger draw than the dogs. In fact, while we were sitting there, plenty of people came in getting various ice cream concoctions, but we appeared to be the only ones eating hot dogs. Just another thing that makes this place seem a little special. The service was extremely quick and very friendly (it didn't hurt that the guy who took our order seemed to recognize me from the place I volunteer at). Plus, they have the slush puppy style slushes there so if you're looking to turn your entire mouth an ungodly shade of blue while you enjoy your dogs, I can't think of a better place in DuPage county to do it.

This is a great little "hole in the wall" hotdog restaurant. They have quite a large selection besides their hotdogs, and most of it is very good. The best part about Southtown, however, is the staff. They are all extremely friendly and personable. The price of the food is a bargain, and the atmosphere is pleasant whether your going by yourself or with the kids. Word of warning: During peak lunch hours (~12-2 PM) it can get very crowded, so if your like me, you might want to go a little early or late. Bottom line, good food, great staff, amazing value.

What a great little place in south Elmhurst! We were out house hunting and needed an inexpensive and quick bite -- hot dogs always fit the bill and Southtown seemed like a good place to try. It's smallish but has a handful of booths and a counter, bright red and yellow with a chalk menu (and more menus above the counter and kitchen areas). Hot dogs, sausage, Italian beef, burgers, soup, the usual assortment of fried things (potatoes, cheese, onions) and ice cream. Yum. Friendly, chatty guys working who dealt with the influx of teenagers well. We both got hot dogs and fries, and I cheated on my diet a little more thoroughly with a dreamsicle shake that I couldn't resist. The hot dogs were the longer-thinner variety, with good flavor and snap, and those squishy poppyseed buns. Good thin-sliced pickle, lots of celery salt, and slightly chewy sport peppers. The fries were the thinner variety, not shoestring but just right, hot and crispy. And the milkshake was divine. While I'd certainly like to try more of their food, it's the ice cream that would probably get us back even sooner.

I have lived in Elmhurst for 7 years now. I have been into Southtown twice. For some reason I had a jonesing for a dog (which is rare though I love them) As I was in the area picking up my dry cleaning....why not try here/ very clean inside. Enough small booths and seats to accommodate 20+ customers. Lots of young families and Elmhurstians in here. Ordered a dog with everything...to go. Exciting opened the bag when I got home and " three bited" it home. Everything that you expect and want in a Chicago Dog. Yummy
