Original Thai Menu

The food was watered down and the spices were weak. The food was also way over priced for the quality and quantity you receive. I also over heard a local saying that they had been going there for years and that this was the worse curry they had ever had. He then asked if they had changed chefs or management and the waiter just apologized and walked away.

The restaurant is old and ugly for starters. This is probably the worst Thai food that I've had, the server was on his laptop half the time we were there. But they did get our food to the table fairly quickly--10 min or so. But the portion size was very small for what you pay.

Lots of good selection. And they give you lots of food. I usually end up taking half my plate home to go. This is my favorite restaurant in rexburg. Though for a college budget its on the expensive side.

The entire place needs a good cleaning. Asked for iced tea, got back some half milk concoction that was awful. Ordered the curry beef, it was tasteless paste like. Anyone who thinks this is good food has never actually had good Thai.

I know this is a college town, and the food is college priced. But I didn't expect frozen vegetables in my curry. You can't afford fresh vegetable and then chop them up? Really?! The coconut soup was a BIG disappointment; we didn't even finish it. The pad thai was serviceable, but honestly, there was nothing outstanding about this place. To top it all off, the waiter was exceptionally terse, short, and borderline rude. Options are limited in Rexburg, but if you really want some Thai food, I would drive or take the bus to Idaho Falls (or anywhere else for that matter!) before I went here. It's a shame. I would have given at least 2 stars but the interaction with the waiter was so bad that I couldn't give the extra star. At least my daughters all had a good time, proving that being together as a family is more important than the food. AND THIS PLACE REINFORCES THAT CONCEPT IMMEASURABLY!!

Visiting from California. Took a group of students to dinner here. We ate family style and really enjoyed the food. Some may think it pricey for a college town in eastern Idaho. I understand. But a meal of the same quality I. Southern California would have cost me three times what we spent. We loved the Mango Curry.

This place receives lots of hype from the community, but it may be due to the fact it's the only Thai restaurant in the area. Food is just okay, and meat has the tendency to be dry. Customer service is relatively slow and it seems they are a bit short staffed. On my last visit my order tasted like what dog food smells like. Do yourself a favor and save that craving for Thai food for another time and another place.

If you're looking to get away from the normal burgers, pizza, and sandwiches, then this is the place for you. Original Thai offers a variety of flavor rich dishes at affordable prices. The service is very friendly and very fast. Check out their lunch menu for some good deals. If this is your first time I recommend the pad thai as a "safe" dish to try out.

Cheap and Fast Thai food. We were in and out within an hour which makes it really nice for a lunch date, especially since we were both on lunch break. They were able to substitute for Tofu, which was nice.

fantastic thai food. tasted the drunken noodles, pad thai, (i know, im so effing original aren't I) and the mango curry. all were delicious.service was fast and friendly and the decor was simple and not too flashy. i'll absolutely be stopping by next time i come to rexburg.

I love Thai food. This place, for the middle of nowhere is amazing. I was just in Vegas and this place is better than the Thai I had there. Excellent!

    (5)
  • Darby S.

It was "ok". The food was good but not something I would seek out on a weekly basis, or even monthly for that matter. It was clean and the service was fast. Nicely air conditioned. Price was "ok" as well but maybe a little high.

  • Sarah S.

We stopped here for a quick bite on our road trip! Pretty good price, good service and taste great! One of the best Thai we've ever had, loved the drunken noodles and pad Thai

Place was a nice welcome in the little town of Rexberg!! Restaurant it self needs a paint job and a good cleaning but what else can you expect. The food is what you are coming for! Got the Pad Thai and it was flavored just right huge portion and came out super fast. Tai tea was a little too sweet that what I have had before.

  • Lauree T.

Good food, the service could have been a little more professional but all in all good joint!

  • Dean C.

Excellent food as always. The service is attentive and caring. We had the drunken noodles and summer rolls. The food was fresh and vegetables were not over cooked. They also serve Chinese food as well.

    (5)
  • Susan S.

Not worth the money. Curry is disgusting. The stir fry was much better than the curry so I would recommend it if you are forced to go here! Otherwise, Thai food from the frozen aisle of Broulims would be better! Giving 2 stars because of the stir fry but the curry is 1 star. You will leave disappointed, I'd drive 30 mins and go to Idaho Falls.

  • Jennifer B.

The food was SO good!!! We had to stop and tell the chef that we had one of the top 5 Thai meals ever. There were 4 if us and we all had something different and everyone loved their dishes. This was such a treat. I would consider driving the 11 hours that this place is from my home town anytime, just to have some more!

  • Thome W.

Best Thai food I've ever had. The owners are very nice and always take care of us. Not mention how fast they get your order and food out to you. Can't beat this place.

I was very disappointed with the service we received. We arrived at around 8:30 and the first thing our waiter told us was that they close at 9. He hardly gave us time to look at the menu before hounding us for our order. Then when 9 rolled around, he was very rude in rushing us out. Huge disappointment, especially since we were at dinner with family from out of town! The reason for 2 stars is because the food was actually very good, wish I could say the same for customer service.

Thai food is one of those things you just HAVE to get right. I love Thai food but have experienced both ends of the spectrum when it comes to quality. Upon first sight, this looked like everything I love. Local, a bit divey, small restuarant where I could get some great food. The restaurant is small and dirty, my wife found a bug in her drunken noodles. As we got farther into our meal my opinion of the place continued on a slow decline. Ultimately, the food is just not that good! We ended up with a $20 meal (no drinks, appetizers, etc.) for SUB-PAR food at best. I cannot recommend Original Thai until the quality issues of both the food and the restaurant are taken care of. For $5-$7 a person this place MIGHT be worth it, but for $10+ a plate......take your money and dinner dates elsewhere.

Best Thai food in Idaho! Ive been coming hear for several years and it never disappoints. The drunken noodles are my favorite.

  • Spencer V.

I subtracted one star for being a little too pricey for the average college student... But the food is nothing to complain about. There's just not many different options when it comes to dining out in Rexburg, but this one is a my go to place when I want sometime a little more out of the ordinary. I almost always order the Pad-Thai. If you like Asian style cuisine, you'll probably like this place.

  • Matt U.

Original Thai is my wife and I's go-to in Rexburg! We usually eat here once a month and we LOVE Thai food! We've been to a lot of thai places across the country and this consistently ranks in our top 5! Our favorite dishes are the Rama Thai, Drunken Noodles, & Pad Thai!

  • Jacob F.

Third times a charm.... NOT! First time eating here was ok, but after the good reviews I read, I figured I'd try it again. The second time was terrible. The older woman who greeted us was rude. The portion size was very small and the crab rangoon was burned. I'm a glutton for punishment and went back a third time. Same terrible experience and all three of my friends were treated just as poorly. Look somewhere else for a meal.

  • Dan L.

As we live in Rexburg there are very few options to eat out. I still crave the Pad Tai frequently. I went in with my wife timid from our last encounter. The owner was there and he recognized us. He started talking to one of the cooks in Tai and they started laughing. The cook looked at us so I know he was telling them about our past experience. How rude can you get? I just cant go back now.

The spring rolls were great, and the Pineapple Curry is amazing. The service is super fast and friendly.

    (4)
  • Travis H.

Great Thai food...especially for Idaho. We always call ahead and they have it ready for us to pick it up. Definitely recommend to friends.

    (4)
  • Tom P.

Absolutly horrible now. The noodles are dry and flavorless. The crab rangoon is now cooked from frozen and absolutely horrible, inedible in parts since it has a hard cruchy freezer-burnt texture. Really sad since this place was so good.

  • Sean M.

I went here on valentines day with my girlfriend and it was really great! The food is really good and the service is really fast! We were in and out of there in about 45 mins. The only thing I would say is there isn't a great atmosphere there because there is no music and also the food is a little pricey

    (5)
  • Holly F.

This place is delicious! They do really good curry and delicious meat. Great customer service and perfect for take out! They get your food out fast. And treat you very nice when you dine in. The dining area is a little small, but overall great food and service!

    (4)
  • Brittany H.

Really yummy Thai food!! If I were rich I'd come more often! The green curry and drunken noodles are my favorites.

    (4)
  • Jessica N.

Horrible! !! If you're looking for fresh food this is not your place. There was no crab in the crab rangoon just cream cheese furthermore we were charged dinner prices for lunch specials because we did not want to meet only vegetables I have never heard of a place charging extra for no meat the only positive is that the service and food was fast but with canned food and vegetables I wouldn't imagine it would take long to cook. Do not eat here if you are looking for a good place to eat and genuine Thai food. We will never be back.

  • Lisa H.

I have eaten a lot of Thai food and this is one of the worst Thai restaurants I have been too. The dish was simple and the serving size was very small for what you pay for. The serivice was good and we got our food quickly. However it was pricy for rexburg and the food is just not that great, so I don't think I will return.

  • Eve P.

My husband and I frequent this restaurant and love it. This place, though not the best Thai place I have eaten at, is quite good, especially for a little town like Rexburg. They do tofu substitutions, which is awesome. Our favorites are the Drunken Noodles and Med Mamaung (cashew dish), as well as the fried spring rolls. My husband did not enjoy the Tom Yum soup and I don't like to get their Pad Thai as it is too greasy for my taste. Additionally, their portions aren't particularly large. Service is great and prices are reasonable. As it's one of the few nice restaurants in town it's very busy Friday and Saturday nights. 2014 Addendum: My husband's favorite dish ended up being the SSS Chicken, claiming the sauce is excellent. The Rama Thai was also a great staple.

  • Austin H.

On our last visit, it was pretty good. The Green Curry was over-sweetened, but I LOVED the drunken noodles. Even though it was extremely busy this night (the school semester had just started), we were in and out within 30 minutes. Even got our food within the first 10 minutes.

  • Ruthie Bella R.

Love the chicken sateé with peanut sauce as an appetizer; Best soup in world is Tom Kha Talay (seafood with the prettiest of oyster shells) then have the Mango Curry with chicken for a great (but spicy) main course!

    (5)
  • Brandon K.

THE worst pad thai I've ever had. I got 3 lunch pad thai with crab ragoon to go. It literally tasted like they reheated yesterday's pad thai and slopped it into the Styrofoam container with a burnt crab ragoon with no filling. The portions were so small that it would make sense it was leftover from the day before. The noodles were extremely soggy, and there was very little chicken. Never going back, stay away!

  • Mike O.

I have been coming here for some time now. I love the orange chicken and yellow curry, but my one gripe is that the portion sizes seem to be getting smaller which sucks, because the above mentioned dishes are around $10 a piece. Service is also somewhat slow, and they could not take out the shrimp in the pad Thai which again sucks because i am allergic to shellfish. Their yellow curry isn't anything unique, I enjoyed the coconut flavor but the portion size is small. The orange chicken has a nice sauce with it, again I just wish they would serve a little more food with each dish. All in all for thai food in rexburg it is A-OK.

  • Trin N.

Mediocre thai food...but it is in the middle of no where. Had the pad thai...was a little wet for a stir fry dish.

    (3)
  • Arturo A.

Original tai is delicious! We love the yellow curry and pad tai. It ranges from 9 to 12 dollars a plate and the service is excellent. Every time we eat here the food is out within 10 minutes, usually less. We eat here for every date night.

  • Jacque K.

I really like their food. The building is old, and the bathroom is a little sketchy, but who cares? This isn't manhattan. My only real complaint is that the service can be slow, but even if it is the servers are always really friendly.

Best Tai in Eastern Idaho. A top 3 restaurant for food in Rexburg. Would be 5 Stars if it wasn't cold inside in the winter.

  • Beth L.

Let's face it. Rexburg is a tiny college town in rural Idaho. You just don't expect a "big city" type selection of variety or culture in Restaurant cuisine here. That's why Original Thai is such an exceptional find. The food is likely the most authentic ethnic food available in the area. My friends and I ordered different curry dishes and a plate of Pad Thai. All were excellent. I took a lunch menu with me when we left. Price range for lunches are typically $7.00 to $8.00. We averaged about $15.00 each for dinner, including the shared appetizer and desert. Fun find, and I would definitely go back.

  • Robert S.

We stopped in here because our AAA trip book said the food was really good despite the looks of the place. We agree wholeheartedly. I had the Ginger stir fry and my wife had the something else. Both were great! You just have to look past the looks of the place. It really needs some work badly.

  • Hungry G.

This place is unimpressive looking from the street; however, it's worth a trip inside. This is one of the best kept food secrets in Rexburg. There are many good menu choices. If you are a Thai food rookie, the Pad Thai is a good entry level dish. My favorite is the Drunken Noodles. It's good with chicken or beef, but try it with fried tofu for a more unique experience. The summer rolls and satay chicken are nice appetizers, especially with the peanut sauce. The curry dishes and the sweet and sour are all really good choices. This used to be the best Thai in the area, but the more upscale Teton Thai (Driggs) has now surpassed it. Plus, it has a bit of a "divey" feel. Still, it's good local Thai food and that's never a bad thing.

So yummy on a cold, snowy night in Rexberg! Worth the mile or two off the hwy.

  • Sarah A.

They have a great selection and the food is excellent!!! The service is a little hit and miss, but the food makes up for it. It is a bit expensive, but the quality and amount explains it.

    (5)
  • Dave H.

While the appetizers are a little weak all the main courses are incredible, especially the curries. This small town restuarant is better than most big city Thai food places. I'd recommend Original Thai to everyone.

    (4)
  • Jesse W.

Great find for a small town...Not perfect, but very good considering this is the middle of nowhere. Can be rather slow sometimes, you will be happiest with your food if you go during busy restaurant hours. Anyone who comes here and orders something they could get at Panda Express should be ashamed of themselves! Good curries, in particular. Very mom and pop.

I am really REALLY not one who usually is dissatisfied with eating out, let alone someone who leaves a bad review. But my experience here was really not good at all. I sincerely wanted to adore this place as so many other people seem to - I love Thai food and have had countless good experiences with it in other cities. I wanted a place in Rexburg that I could go to and really enjoy that wasn't just the same old Sammy's,Taco Bell, or Craigo's. The service was fine, we were the only people in there at the time, and the price I could deal with, but the food itself is what was so awful. We got a chicken skewer appetizer that was not only flavorless, but didn't even seem to have the correct consistency of chicken; the only way I can think to describe it is "spongy". Also, all of us got sides of rice (of course), and even the rice was not cooked properly! It was hard and crunchy and all stuck together and dried out. For my entree I decided to go with the standard pad thai, which I thought would be a fairly good indicator of the restaurant seeing how this is really what they are probably making most often. Another review on UrbanSpoon talked about this dish as well, saying that "When it comes out it looks like a bland american form of pasta. But when eating these vermicelli looking noodles I get a rush of flavor that is sweet and savory!" However, my experience with it was that it tasted EXACTLY how it looked - like (beyond) bland American pasta. All but one of the other people I was with weren't completely impressed with their dishes as well. I was so disappointed with this place - I wanted so badly to like it since so many people seem to. I am willing to give it another chance, but at this point, I am doubtful that it will redeem itself :( UPDATE: This place is still bad. But, if you are in Rexburg and find yourself yearning for Thai, drive the half hour down to Idaho Falls for some Thai Kitchen -- that place is GREAT!!

I love this place! It is by far the best restaurant in this dinky town! The food is always made to order, it is really tasty and it's just wonderful. I had Thai food for the first time here and I am hooked! Not to mention the service is great!

    (5)
  • Trevor B.

Original Thai is the best place in Rexburg, and the only place that sells Tofu! Excellent little hole in the wall. If you like Thai food you will like this place. Make sure to tell them you want it SPICY! It makes it that much better!

  • Collin W.

Its the best place to eat in Rexburg. It's cheap, and fast and legit food.
