Good Lord but they feed you to fill you here. And the food is great. The staff is friendly and efficient, the menu is huge, and the decor is so full of tchotchkes that it's a fun greasy spoon sort of place good for the whole family.

All the food was made with fresh ingredients. The eggs were perfect, pancakes light and tasty, hash browns golden brown, great bacon cooked just right. Friendly, courteous service. Clean and pleasant. Great place to take the family. I give it a four because the coffee was not up to the quality of the food. It was just okay. Good value. Recommend

This place has great food and prices. Plus the service is outstanding. The griddle had Goldie's have nothing on this classic diner. My wife and I drive from Nampa every weekend. Sure the place is rough around the edges, but it's worth it. Plus they have farmer brothers coffee, the best diner coffee IMO. Responses to negative reviews: The seating isn't confusing. You walk in and take a seat. If the restaurant is full you wait. I've never had to worry about my spot in line. I've never waited more than 5 minutes. The place could use a deep cleaning, but it's not nearly as bad as some of these reviews make it sound. I've been to several diners in the area, they are all similar in that regard. If you love classic diner food and atmosphere this is the place in the treasure valley IMO.

Great food in a typical small town diner. We always go for breakfast after our daughters soccer games. I love the country platter- not a meal for dieters obviously. Their cinnamon rolls are amazing and hubby enjoys their pancakes. The only thing we have ever been disappointed with was their blueberry muffin- small and tasteless and a waste of a side item. Everything else is great. Excellent prices for the amount of food you get, service is always super speedy and we never wait long for a table- even when we come in with a huge group of two families. A hidden gem that the regulars appreciate. But don't come expecting a fancy breakfast- just excellent diner type food.

Good food and selection if you happen to be on Main St. and your hungry for breakfast. Very friendly staff, and service. My wife was please with the ability to customized her breakfast. The interior is quite dated, but on par as old time neighborhood cafe atmosphere. Reasonably priced. If we happen to be on Main St. at breakfast time, we may stop in again.

Another Meridian locals hang out, but doesn't compare at all to Goldy's or The Griddle. Greasy spoon diner. I repeat what Amy J says about the bathrooms and overall cleanliness. Pretty bad.

Good food, even better atmosphere. I've been going here for 15+ years and have a great experience every time I go. If you go for breakfast say hey to the old timers and become a regular! You won't regret it

What a delight. Definitely an old-school rustic, homey, and bustling diner where jeans and flannel shirts were the order of the day. The wait staff was prompt and exceedingly friendly. It seemed that in many cases the staff was on first name basis with many of the diners -- always a good sign -- especially if they treat you the same way like they did. Coffee, menus and water were on the table within a minute of choosing a table. I made the mistake of ordering the breakfast ham with bone in and, as a result, needed a to-go bag because the portion was so large. The food arrived within a few minutes of ordering. My wife's eggs Benedict was served with shaved ham (not the typical McDonald's style ham oval you typically get at most restraunt) and was very good. We ate on a Saturday morning so the customer mix was all over the place with many families. Portions were generous and the price very reasonable. Personally I prefer this to any of the other so-called a-list locations like Goldy's (good but over-rated) or the Griddle (good but over-priced).

Stopped by for breakfast. Atmosphere was country rustic, with a nice positive vibe. Everyone at the tables was definetely over 50, maybe a senior special? Or maybe it was a Tuesday morning, and the population that eats breakfast at 12:00 on Tuesday, is retired. One of those works. :) Anyways, on to our meals. Biscuits and Gravy was above average, and was "home made". Corn beef hash plate was a little on the light side for the corn beef hash, but it came with a free side, we picked pancakes, which made up for the lack of corn beef. Kids meal was also a good size and about twice as much food as kiddo could eat. Overall food was good, and for getting out at $23.00 with a tip, you can't really beat that. If you want a good home style breakfast, Sunrise is your place. I will be writing an update after I try the dinner.

I really enjoy Sunrise Cafe (several locations but I usually go to the one on Main St. in Merdian), Breakfast there is always good and reminds me of being a guest at a B&B. My favorite is the Hamburger and Eggs for mornings and the Chili-Cheese Fries in the evenings.

This is the original Sunrise Cafe founded by Bob Godsill. He was an old "Navy Cook". And as such he understood feeding large groups of people. I've been a customer since it opened. It's not fancy, it's home town, like your mom used to put on the table. Everything is home made except the bread. If you order a cinnamon roll, you better be hungry. Because it will fill a plate. This place is all about old fashioned home town cooking and atmosphere. Just come in and pick a spot to sit down, you'll be welcomed by your neighbor. And if you want to see real waitress's in action. Watch "Tammy" take an order from a group of 15-20 and never write it down. When it comes out of the kitchen she'll deliver each order to the correct person and never have to ask you what you ordered. Come on down and give it a try, you won't be sorry. Great prices too.

Food is good, price is right. The seating situation is a little confusing. . .With seat yourself, someone from your party has to continually roam the restaurant looking for a place to sit and someone else has to "guard" your place in line. Not as clean as a restaurant should be. Bathrooms are particularly scuzzy.

We visited the State Street location last weekend around noonish. We ordered breakfast. i got the Basque scramble with 1/4 biscuit & gravy and home fries. The chorizo was great in the scramble and the biscuit and gravy good. The gravy was a bit light on the sausage, but I love a ton of sausage in my gravy. The home fries were EXCELLENT. I would definitely recommend them over the hashbrowns. SO got chicken fried steak with pancakes and hashbrowns. My home fries were better. The pancakes were good and the chicken fried steak very good. Highly recommend this place as one of the better down-home breakfast places in Boise.

My husband and I decided to give this place a try on a Sunday morning at about 10:00 a.m.. The place was definitely busy but we were able to find a table right away. We didn't know that it is a seat yourself type place so we were standing up at the front door for about 3-5 minutes before my husband finally decided to go up to the counter and ask about seating...I guess nobody bothered to tell us that we were supposed to seat ourselves because maybe they figured we were waiting for a different table than what was already available. Anyway, once we were seated we ordered our food and received it about 5 minutes later! It was pretty good too! I had a California scramble (eggs, bacon, jack cheese and guacamole) and my husband had the bicuits and gravy. This place isn't anything fancy but they serve a nice hardy breakfast in a jiffy!! That's my kind of place!

Absolutely love this place, it's my favorite place to go when I go out for breakfast. The cinnamon rolls are amazing and I am not a huge cinnamon roll lover but they have mastered that. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a good breakfast place they are usually super busy so there may be a bit of a wait but totally worth it.

Been going here for over 10 years. It used to be my favorite place for breakfast. It's very popular and is often very busy. I don't know if my tastes have changed but it's just not as good as it once was. I've noticed the change over the past few years. The food is okay, used to be great. I've noticed it's not very consistent as it was the first few years I frequented.

Food was ok. Service was subpar, and they started closing an hour before they closed. Literally vacuumed under my table and were changing out condiments while we were eating. There are far superior places in Boise to spend your money.

I really usually love this place but it seems to have fallen off a little. I found a red, coarse looking pubic-like hair in the mayo of my club sandwich! I seriously gagged. I can't ever eat here again. I don't even think I can eat a club again...

Nothing special, nothing awful. A dinner that wants to be more than a greasy spoon but never will be.

Throughout the years I have yet to find a biscuits and gravy that is better than the Sunrise Cafe's! Their biscuits actually have an authentic homemade biscuit flavor; not dense or hard as hockey pucks like most other greasy spoon breakfast spots. Then there is the gravy....perfect consistency, seasoning and balance of sausage. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Absolutely nothing hits the spot like their Big Biscuit Breakfast. It's a halved biscuit with each half topped with a thick sausage patty (that I swear they make there too), an egg cooked to your liking, and then that amazing heavenly gravy poured on top! Oh yeah, and it comes with hashbrowns too! The PERFECT breakfast. Well, unless you are my husband who swears by their chicken fried steak. If you need to satisfy your sweet tooth then get a cinnamon roll. They are huge and you can order a half of one which is just one made smaller. They serve it with a runny frosting and a lump of butter on it that all just melts into gooey goodness. We have been going here for years and have never been disappointed. The quality is good and the serving size of the food is just right. The staff have always been friendly and have been working there for years. They show their team spirit on game day by wearing their BSU garb. The inside has really improved over the years once smoking became banned in restaurants, but it still has that greasy spoon hometown charm that you would expect. If you are new or visiting the area then get yourself to Sunrise Cafe in Meridian. If you live in the area and have never gone here then you are truly missing out.

Probably won't be coming back ever. Food was cold and undercooked. Asked for crispy hash browns and they were uncooked on one side and almost burned on the other side....tasted like soggy potatoes with little flavor. The 1/2 waffle came to the table ice cold...almost like a frozen waffle that didn't get heated....seriously, it was ice cold.

This is a pretty good place. I was torn how to rate it. I think 5 stars i just not enough. My rating for the Sunrise would be somewhere in between 3, which is Ok and 4, which is Im a fan. So would that make my rating "Im an Ok fan?" I have been here about a dozen times over the last few months. I try to not write a review based on just 1 or 2 visits. Any place can have an off day. God knows I do . :) I think the 1st thing to note is the place itself. The decor leaves a lot to be desired. It is small and rather dingy. It reminds me a little of a truck stop diner. The seating here is Seat Yourself. I am not sure if I am a fan of this sort of seating. Very few places do this. Though it seems that of the ones that do, they are mostly breakfast houses. If you come late for breakfast on a Saturday or Sunday, you might not be able to find a table. Its usually pretty crowded. The food here is good. The bacon is always crisp. The hash browns are crisp. The pancakes and light and good. The eggs are usually good. My only real complaint with the food is that when they are busy, it might not be as hot as it should be. My other objection is one that is common to pretty much every breakfast place that I have been too. When I get scrambled eggs, they are cooked like its an omelet, then at the last minute, they are cut up to resemble scrambled eggs. I have not had anything bad here yet. The service is good. Sometimes they get a bit slow, but this is due to them being so very busy. I do recommend this place. I just wish they would get a makeover.
