Really cool place for playing pool and relaxing, chill atmosphere! With generous pitchers of beer and a cool DJ. With friendly staff and they also vapor reps there fairly often. What a cool place to hang with the boys at!

Big Star Coffee

Holy good morning. I'm loving this place. I've been traveling for weeks and came in for a cup and stuck around awhile to get a little work done. Coffee is excellent and the ladies behind the bar are divine. If I lived in town I'd certainly be back to get my punch card stamped.
Great coffee and an awesome staff of baristas who know how to make you feel welcome and appreciated. This will always be my favorite coffee shop!
Denizens of Treasure Valley, as much as I love my Dutch Bros and they remain my "default" spot to hit up when that need to caffienate hits... I am always on the lookout for good, local spots to get my coffee fix. So this morning on the way back from the grocery store, I pulled into Big Star Coffee. It doesn't look like much from the outside, and in fact that may put you off a little bit from pulling in and giving it a try. But don't let appearances fool you. It may look a little rundown, but everything about my stop here was first class. The prices are good. My large mocha was $4.60, which is pretty much par for the course. I also liked how the barrista asked if I wanted the full four shots or just three. I find that at a lot of places, four shots is just too much, but three is often just right. On that note, the service was excellent. Both ladies were friendly and I got my drink quickly. The coffee itself was outstanding. As I've said in other reviews, I may not be a coffee "snob," but I know what I like and what I don't... and I really liked my drink. The chocolate and coffee were in good balance and it was not overly sweet. Often I find that a mocha can end up tasting more like a hot cocoa than a coffee drink, but Big Star did it right. Bottom line folks, if you need to caffienate in Meridian and want to go "local" instead of big chain... give Big Star a try. You'll be glad you did.

Always the best. I really don't go anywhere else.
One word...delicious! I had the spinach and artichoke soup and it was amazing. The bread on my sandwich was fresh from the oven. I will definitely be back. Staff was super friendly as well!
We were passing through Boise and stopped here for a quick lunch because the place had such high ratings on yelp and boy did this place deliver!! The sandwiches are clean and delicious and the salads have all the best ingredients. Karen, the owner, and everyone that works here are incredibly friendly and accommodating, and the physical location is open and has tons of natural light. A+

Epi’s A Basque Restaurant

Reviews:
Based on all the great Yelp reviews we chose Epi's to celebrate a special occasion. Located in a renovated home on Main St., the interior is warm and cozy. Seating is limited but it didn't feel cramped...more intimate. The staff and owner are delightful and charming. We started off our meal with the ham croquetas, puffy little clouds of silky potato/ham/cheese deliciousness. If you don't fall in love with these little poppers, you have no soul. All entrees came with soup, salad, bread, roasted peppers, and a pilaf style side dish. I ordered a single lamb chop from the "lighter fare" menu and my hub had the filet medallions. Unfortunately both dishes were unremarkable. My lamb chop was small and dry and kinda of looked lost on the large dinner plate.( Lamb is one of my favorite dishes and the main reason I chose Epi's.) Hub's was a little better; his was accompanied by a tasty sauce. Also, neither dish was hot when it arrived at our table. Service, although friendly, was sloooww. There is a big difference between slow and well-paced service. We had to flag down our server for water and to take our plates. All together it took us an hour and a half to finish our meal. Not sure if I will be back. I was really hoping for a more satisfying dining experience.
This place sets the bar. Amazing service and great food. If you haven't tried it you are missing out on a gem! Make a reservation as they are usually packed.
Denizens of the Treasure Valley, in a perfect world we would all go out to our back yards, pick fresh fruits and vegetables, grow grains for our own flour, and slaughter the family pig for supper. We would take all these fresh ingredients into our kitchens and we would prepare them with dedication and love to produce the finest meals for ourselves and our families... ...ok you can stop laughing now. But in the world we live in, there are folks who can dedicate the time and effort to prepare such wonderful meals for us. That is what you will get at Epi's. No they don't have the farm right out back, but the ingredients are as fresh as can be and are prepared with all the love and attention in the world. That is one thing that set this place apart for me from the moment I even made the reservation over the phone. This is a restaurant run by people who love what they do, and it shows in the food and the presentation. Everything about our experience at Epi's was top notch. The service was spectacular. Our water glasses never went empty. The courses were properly paced. Heck we were even offered a second bowl of soup if we had wanted it. We declined because we wanted to enjoy our entrees. Dessert came with coffee, which only I availed myself of, but was another very nice touch. Yes the "bill" is a bit high, but believe me when I tell you, you will get your money's worth. So how about that food? Do yourself a favor and get an order of the ham croquetas for an appetizer. No, I take that back... if you REALLY want to do yourself a favor, get two orders so you won't have to share them with your dining partner, because I guarantee you that after tasting one... you won't want to share. Amazing. The soups vary. Every day you can get the red bean soup, which is perfectly serviceable and tasty, and then a soup of the day. When we went this was a mushroom soup seasoned with white pepper. I'm not a mushroom fan so I passed, but my wife liked it. For entrees both my wife and I opted for seafood... halibut for me and shrimp for her. We both enjoyed our meals immensely, but strangely we both preferred the OTHER'S meal more than our own... not that we were unsatisfied with our choices, just that after sampling a bite from the other's plate, we both agreed that the other dish was better than our own. I think a lot of that had to do with the lobster cream sauce on my plate. My wife is a fanatic for lobster while it is just "ok" for me. For dessert we absolutely had to try the apple bread pudding. Man I wish I could learn to make bread pudding as well as some others do. It is one of my favorite desserts but I never seem to be able to get it "right." Well no worries about that here... again just amazing. Bottom line folks, if you want great ethnic fare prepared by people who love what they do and it shows on the plate, head to Epi's. You will be amazed.

Firehouse Subs

Always a fabulous sandwich. Everything in the menu is a winner! And...they're extra friendly to boot.
Went during lunch; had an Italian sandwich and got it to go. It was good...lots of food, and quality was fine. I'd recommend maybe a turkey or roast beef next time, since their version of the Italian sandwich was non-traditional; it had a sweeter oil & vinegar dressing and a sweeter ham. I would prefer a mortadella and capicolla on the sandwich, instead of pepperoni and (apparently) honey ham. The filling was heated, which was nice...it melted the cheese and added flavor to the meat...but after taking it back to the office, the lettuce got a little warm. Service was friendly and reasonably quick, took a little over 5m to make the sandwich, and it was at noon. I could see going back if convenient, but it's not on my "top" list...Jimmy John's is closer to me and pretty comparable. What's good: Friendly service, selection. What needs work: Italian sandwich not to my taste; too sweet ham and dressing.
Better than subway. I've decided to replace subway with Firehouse almost completely. Love it!!

I got a lox bagel herb cream cheese. I have never seen such fresh looking smoked salmon on a lox bagel (and I'm from NJ). The cream cheese was home made and they had containers you could buy - I bought 2. Their organic coffee was delicious as well. I am not from here, but was just on a random road trip. It's such a nice area we will definitely be coming back and I will be making sure we stop here again. PS The service was excellent.
The bagels here are quite good, but not the best ever. But probably the best in Boise. The cream cheese smears are many, but are applied too heavily for my likes. Ask for the smear on the side and apply to your own taste and thickness. They also make sandwiches from the bagels. Coffee is Dawson Taylor and that is worth an extra star, in itself. This a good place for a quick breakfast and bagels are stout and large enough to share for 2 light eaters. My favorite bargain here is the bags of day old bagels for $2.00 a bag. If I am going to freeze bagels for home use, this is a perfect option. Access is good, although parking is sometimes full, but not often. Handicap parking is close by and the floor is all one level. No trips to the loo, so no comments here. Seating is spacious and tables with standard chairs prevail. The tables do need to be wiped down a bit more often sometimes. If you have trouble locating them, look behind Crispy Cream Donuts.
Fresh bagels every morning. All different kinds of cream cheese and eggs sandwiches, meats, cheese, etc. Open for breakfast and lunch. Friendly staff and lots of places to sit. Fun place for breakfast.

I don't usually write reviews but I felt compelled because of our terrible experience. I went here with my husband and our 2-year-old based on great reviews and what a disappointment. I can't say anything about the quality of food but I can tell you the service is bad. We didn't eat here because we ended up leaving. After sitting for half an hour, we didn't even get water. No apologies for making us wait. What kind of restaurant doesn't offer something to drink while you sit there? I understand they only have one waiter but come on, if you're going to charge such high prices for food at least be courteous enough to give us water! I saw the staff taking care of a large table because that meant more money. I watched the waiter take a phone call and a to-go order when someone walked in and he took care of other customers but us. Seriously?! It was like we weren't there. If someone offered us something to drink and said, "I'm sorry we're really busy tonight" perhaps we would've stayed and tried the food people are raving about. They also need to update their prices on the website because it's different from the restaurant menu. We spent $50 somewhere else where the service was excellent. If you're hungry, do not come here because the service is poor unless you want to wait... you'll be thirsty and starving!
My first experience with Shanaz and I have to say I was quite impressed. I have been wanting to try this place ever since they opened and since my favorite soul food place that was on Broadway closed. Shanaz is kind of tucked away in a strip mall off of Main Street in Meridian across the street from Meridian Speedway. Careful because if you are not looking for it closely you could easily pass by it and that would be a shame. I came at the tail end of their lunch hours but was greeted nonetheless with a warm welcome. Bob Marley music was at a nice volume and really set the mood for what would be a really nice experience. I mean who doesn't like Marley, right? I ended up ordering a Korean taco which I know sounds strange for a soul food place. And a shrimp Po Boy sandwich with a salad instead of fries and their house sesame dressing. Topped it off with a sweet tea. The Korean taco was really good and even better was the jalapeño sauce that came with it. The meat was flavored just right and if I didn't have a sando coming I could've easily had three more. The salad was one of my favorite things traditional but has crunchy fried onions on top and with that house dressing I could've seriously just dunked straight veggies in it, it's that good. The sweet tea is very sweet and was missing the traditional lemon wedge on the top to make it truly southern in this humble gal's opinion but no worries ask and you shall receive! I was brought a couple of wedges on the side. I am sure if I would've added more ice it would've been perfect! The Shrimp PO boy sandwich was great and served with a lemon wedge but was missing hot sauce to add as an option when I asked for hot sauce options I was offered tapatio or cholula...what?? Which would be my only real criticism. A soul food place should have either a signature hot sauce or a wall of hot sauces that are typical to the style of cooking. Not to worry I always make the best of what I've got. I had some of the jalapeño sauce left over from my taco and tried it on the sandwich and BOOM!! It was awesome! So with another side of that sauce it transformed my shrimp po boy from good to the bomb! Yeah I think I've said it before I like my stuff spicy. ;-) Curtis was an amazing server!! He refilled my drink at the right times, answered questions to the best of his knowledge and checked on my status often. I will definitely be returning to Shanaz for some more of its soul!! Yes!
This is not your typical restaurant food. Taste just like home cooked. Cornbread with ever meal. Super good. We tryed the fried green tomatoes just because we saw the movie. And they were as good as a chick flick.. Not sure I'm supposed to say things like that.. Anyway the spicy ranch dip was very tasty. But the star of the night goes to the fried chicken and the gravy was Awesome! I would actually drink the gravy. :) The is a small neighborhood restaurant with good service. The downside.... The sweet tea is good, but a big beer or a glass of wine would be better.. Or even 2 beers. Just sayin. Chicken this good should be offered as takeout.

Excellent BBQ, great sauces and sides. Very fast. Definitely worth it. We had 18 people there and tried just about everything. Nothing but good words from everyone.
Quick review and short and sweet. This is fantastic BBQ. Yum. You will have great food in a good atmosphere. Have a beer with your BBQ and enjoy. The Carolina sauce is authentic with a twist.
I've been a fan of Big Daddy's since before they opened this location. Good food, done well and close to home. It's not backyard bbq and can't be because it's a restaurant. But when I'm too lazy to make it myself these guys are my go to. Friendly staff, clean establishment, recommended.

Fast seating, awesomely friendly staff. Food was ok, although I have to admit, the hash browns were terribly bland. Didn't seem to have any butter or salt or anything. Was a little disappointed as the rest of the food/experience was so good. Hopefully it was a fluke and next time we go they were be great!
my favorite place to have breakfast!!! the staff is super friendly, and nothing beats their food! try the cinnamon roll French toast!!!!!
This is by far the best place for breakfast I've been in the Boise area. The food is flavorful without being too salty. The portions are very generous. I'd probably share with my daughter next time. They were very accommodating of my substitutions. The service was crazy fast and very friendly. We will come back next time we want breakfast!
