Solid seafood in Boise! I stopped in on a Sunday and took advantage of the all-day happy hour. My service was great, with the server frequently stopping by to ask if I needed a drink refill and if the food was prepared to my liking. I started off with the shrimp and scallop flatbread, which was super-tasty and perfect for sharing with 2-3 people. I then took a chance with ordering the salmon Caesar salad; risky because in my experience these are usually prepared with either too thick of a dressing or way too much. Not the case here at all! The dressing was perfectly light and matched the salmon very well. I will certainly visit again when I am in the area!

Went to the one in Meridian on a slow day and it was still busy. Great atmosphere and clean place. The building is beautiful and the owner is very welcoming and comes around to check on customers' overall content. For it being a seafood joint, and having ordered five orders and alcoholic drinks, we were expecting it be over a $100 but to our surprise it was around $70, which was so great! The food, omg, is so delicious. The best seafood we've ever had. I ordered fish and chips and it was all fish with thin batter and their sauces are all made there and have their own unique taste to it. It's definitely a wonderful place and we will be returning customers absolutely. My husband loved their coconut shrimp and me not being a fan of shrimp, I ate all the variety shrimps on the table. My father had the linguine and as soon as he got it, it was all gone and devoured lol. You won't be disappointed here. Best blue moon my husband has ever had too he says. My kids got the popcorn shrimp and even that was so fancy and delicious!

Unbelievably good tacos, out-of-this-world fish 'n' chips that'll blow you away are what it's about at Lucky Fins. Favorites like burgers and hot dogs provide enough non-fish options to make everyone happy. With huge portions and reasonable prices, you really can't go wrong!

Best sushi ever! If you like a little spice, try the El Dieblo Fresh oysters, great clam chowder. My youngest boy can't stand fish so he gets the burger and fries. He says it tastes amazing

Loud music, chain-restaurant-type interior and only high perch tables in the bar made my husband and me pause at the door to wonder if we should retreat. But it was past lunch time and we were hungry so we soldiered on to wait until the a man emerged from behind the bar to ask if we wanted a table for lunch in the restaurant. In fact we preferred a booth there and he had one cleared that was not yet tended. Nice of him. The beginning of the warm up for us to four stars here. There were more good things to follow. We're fans based on one visit. We'll be back. VIBE Casual with leaning to "CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW" music level. At least it was good music. The Rolling Stones "Get Off of My Cloud" and Neal Diamond in the 70's era type music. A good thing. Wood or wood look tables and chairs run down the middle and along an inside brick faced wall of the bright dining room, booths seating six each are against the window wall. Seating for maybe 60-plus. The red cloth napkins are another good thing! SERVICE More good thing. The server knew the menu, could answer our questions, delivered the food hot to the table, followed up at just the right time and was stellar in making us feel welcome. LIBATIONS Along with the food menu you receive a laminated double sided libations list. I noted wines by the glass for as little as six bucks (a White Zin...seriously) and up to around $9 with some good options among the choices. They have a full bar and the Margarita with jalapeno and cilantro ($9) was calling my name to share with my husband. (Some Yelp friends will think this cilantro is a bad idea. ;-)) It was served over ice in a mini fish bowl sized glass (I think I stole, um borrowed, that line from Doug H) and delicious - tart using fresh juice and house made sour mix. It packed a punch; sharing is a good idea. A little wrinkle was the minced jalapeno is the just right size to stop up the straws. A tip: Smuggle in a couple of Starbuck's Frappucino fat straws so you can drink up that yummy jalapeno. (I'm serious.) MENU / FOOD A broad and eclectic menu on three laminated pages. To scratch the surface; a little Baja (fish tacos), a little Japan (sushi, mostly rolls) a little New England ("lobstah" flatbread) and even some Americana (burgers) and it has the benefit of changing quarterly (said our friendly server) and having some really interesting options. Like the steamer clams in habenero infused broth. (We'll get back to that because we ordered this delicious dish.) Some of the menu items seemed just confused. For example, the flatbread with lobster, scallops and shrimp is a good start but also has ranch dressing and cheese says the menu. Different strokes. In general I do not eat sushi anyplace where I can't see a sushi chef. But three of the five other occupied tables were ordering sushi rolls. I made note of that for a subsequent visit. There is the added benefit of blackboard specials; on the day of our visit a Central or South American fish ribs (no typo), salmon tacos and halibut fish and chips. The fresh fish was indeed fresh. We tried the calamari and a half pound (full pound also available) of steamers in habanero garlic broth. The former were good with fresh flavor but all rings and no tentacles, a drawback in our book. The rings were just kissed with coating and perfectly fried and came with lime to squeeze over, all pluses for us. The lime aioli dipper was tame. A tip if you order these; ask for extra limes and their fresh cocktail sauce that has horseradish. The steamers were the star dish with pieces of habanero served with the perfectly fresh clams in the perfectly seasoned broth. (Remember the Scoville on habaneros is more than 100,000.) The wrinkle for this dish is the bread served with the dish may as well be cotton batting. They should do better with that. Tips: 1) smuggle in good bread, preferably local baker Gaston's, to soak up the broth, 2) ask for spoons to sip all the broth, 3 ) eat the habaneros. We ended with key lime pie (good enough to spend calories to try it once) and local Dawson Taylor coffee served piping hot with cup refilled. VALUE: Two appetizers, one libation, one dessert, one coffee and we clocked it at just about $36 before tax. Good value for the quality. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: In private lot that is too small at peak times. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Two accessible parking spaces. Non compliant for location but useable curb ramp. No standard height seating in the main bar; a bad thing that would be easy for them to correct. Standard height seating in dining room. 3) HAPPY HOUR: Certain hours during the week and all day on Sunday but only in the bar. 4) NEIGHBORS: Red Robin is across the parking lot.

First time here. Went with Mom for lunch on Saturday around 2:00. Place was pretty empty as we expected. I ordered the house Chard-- Canyon Rd. Very nice. I had the Skinny Lobster Salad with the Japanese yuzu dressing on the side. The dish was very tasty... the dressing has a soy sauce base with just a little heat from what tasted like wasabi. It was all a great blend, and I didn't feel so stuffed that I couldn't "help" Mom with her fries. ;-) She decided to order a combo of the crispy and "smokey", since we didn't know what to expect. Turns out the fries are cooked the same, just that the smokey ones have a dusting of a BBQ seasoning. Nicely done. She loved her cod sandwich and I must say after having a bite that it was really well executed with the spinach leaves, red onion, and lemon thyme aioli. Service was excellent throughout, and the music sound level was perfect. We were completely satisfied and are looking forward to going back, especially after reading other reviews and seeing such helpful photos! P.S. I'm not a sushi fan (not of the raw kind, anyway) and my first intro to Lucky Fins was their team-up with Winco in Eagle. I decided to try a CA roll package and was amazed how much I liked it! (My first xp with sushi was in the mid-1980s when there was no such thing as "cooked". I was appalled. Fast forward 30 yrs... ) Anyway, I was sad to see that Winco no longer carries it. I can only assume that sales weren't the best. Too bad, because it made a convert of me, and I was buying once a week! UPDATE: As of early August 2015 Winco teamed up with a different sushi maker. They were just in transition. They have a whole new station within that makes it fresh. Check it out!

It was a spontaneous trip to Luckys on a Sunday morning. And...holy crap. Our food was just wonderful! Probably the best fish and chips I've had in Boise. Besides the Sockeye Brewery. Their (Luckys) tartar sauce was really good and unexpected. Tastes like it was homemade, and the coleslaw, which I'm never a fan of, changed my mind! It had pieces of apple and the creamy sauce had an apple bite to it. Omg. Yes! My fiancé had a lobster Mac and cheese. He tells me that's the best and one of the oddest combos he's had.

First timers on a special day. My husband said he would hear great things about this place so we took my mom on Mothers Day ! I'm not a big seafood lover as in like fish so I order the Baja burrito with scallops and shrimp. The blend of the peppers with the sauce and shrimp/scallops was amazing! My mom order the halibut w/risotto omg the risotto was awesome! You have to try the amazing Bloody Mary they serve super cool presentation ....

Denizens of Treasure Valley, we are not so far from the ocean as other places I have lived, but the quest for good seafood is always a precarious one. After falling in love with sushi a few years ago, we always make it a point to find a good place to satisfy that craving. Now we knew going in that Lucky Fins was probably not going to be the most "authentic" experience for sushi, but we weren't expecting the best, just something that would fit the bill that we would feel comfortable bringing all our kids to. Unfortunately, I have to report that Lucky Fins fell far short of those expectations. Most of my disappointment with Lucky Fins has to do with the service. Everything took an extremely long time from drinks to soups to the actual entrees. I can understand being a little backlogged in the kitchen, but we saw patrons who were seated after us receive their meals before we did. When you have three small children to pacify, these kinds of delays become that much more difficult. The other aspect of the service that really bothered me is when it came time to finally get our check, the waiter stood there telling us the entire history of the restaurant as two of our three kids were crying and we were trying to get them out of there. So instead of promptly paying our check and getting out of the way, we had to sit there and listen to a "sales pitch" while our kids cried... and disturbed the meals of other patrons. I get that servers are trained to "sell" the restaurant, but this was not the time or the place for such a thing, in my opinion. As far as the food goes, it was ok. The stand out for me was the poblano pepper soup. It had great flavor and was the only aspect of the meal that was above average for me. The sushi rolls both myself and my wife ordered were acceptable, but we have both had far better even at similar restaurants, to say nothing of more authentic sushi bars. There was nothing wrong with the food, but there was nothing about it that seemed good enough to warrant a repeat visit, especially in light of the service difficulties that we encountered. Bottom line folks, if you can get better service, you'll get a decent seafood meal at Lucky Fins. But my advice would be to look elsewhere first.

MERIDIAN, ID: I am updating my review to Five Stars instead of four. Every time I come in I have a terrific server, the owner comes by to say hello, it's a nice ambience, and they have several excellent dishes. It is a restaurant I like coming to every time I am in town. The salmon is excellent, the sushi is good, the tuna appetizer is great, the swordfish is delicious, and although I'm not a huge sandwich fan, those are good as well. I even ate the ice cream rolled in ground Cap'n Crunch. Delicious. Eat here and show some local pride!

Seafood in Boise? Yep this is the place for me! I really like the whole vib and feel of this place. Just can't believe I've never stopped here before. I've been upstairs many time at the bar upstairs ( varsity pub) but glad I tryed it today. Food, Salmon cooked to perfection and my po boy was very good. I asked to have a combination ouster shrimp poor boy and it was so good. The bread was perfect. Very important to use the right bread when making a po boy! Claim chowder was ok. Not as good as kahoots a few block away. Next trip I will try and jalapeno soup and fried ice cream another yelper recommended. Everyone very freindly and happy to give recommendations! Over all just a cool classy little seafood place. Going back for sure!

Went to Lucky Fins with some out of town business guests for happy hour. Great deals on drinks and food only downfall is happy hour is only available in the bar and service was a little slow on a not packed night. Food was excellent and will definitely return.

I am updating my review, not because I have gone back to the restaurant but because I have stumbled across the Lucky Fins Sushi in of all places the Winco grocery store! Now I bought it because I thought what what the heck? I know, dangerous right? I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was actually pretty good. I had the Lucky Fin roll which at $7 was not a bad price considering it had real crab and the salmon was fresh tasting. I tried the Spicy California roll and was a bit sad that it didn't have avocado but it was cheap at $5. So what does this mean??? I guess it means that you get the same quality sushi at the grocery store as the restaurant without the high price and the 45 minute wait? Hmmmm...I was not expecting to find it wedged between the hummus and the mozzarella in a grocery store that is known for it's focus on cost and value. I'm still puzzled. I still stand behind my original review and though I did find this worth pointing out, it does not warrant raising the restaurant itself another star. If anything maybe it should lose another star...

Stopped in tonight from Seattle while visiting my aunt in Idaho. Saw the pics on Yelp and thought we would try. The Lobster trio flatbread did not disappoint and was so good, with shrimp, lobster and scallops. The cilantro cream sauce was so yummy and it had a sweet touch with the grilled corn and onion on top. I also had a mojito which was a nice size and good with lots of muddled mint and lime, which is how I like it! My aunt ordered Halibut fish and chips and she enjoyed it, and loved the fries as well. They looked nice and crispy not plain and bland like some can be. Server and hostess were friendly and smiling:) The owner came over and chatted with us and thanked us for coming which was a nice touch. I want to come back for sushi! It looks good!

Excellent place to eat! Nice little hybrid between a seafood restaurant and a sushi bar. Had the stuffed mushrooms, a snapdragon roll, and a mojo roll. All were wonderful. I highly recommend you try this place.

Great food!! Being from Seattle I don't typically seek out seafood when traveling but I am so happy I made this exception. My kids were begging for sushi of all things so we popped in to have some. I had the special - a generous portion of blackened halibut. It was delicious! The service was excellent and the vibe was festive. Very kid friendly (thank you!). There were several things on the menu I would have liked to try. Next time!

I ordered the mango shrimp tacos. They were great. My daughter ordered the seafood enchiladas. So good. I'm ordering that next time. I peaked at the salads at the next table. They looked great. Captain crunch fried ice cream for desert Why not .....

Today was our first visit to Lucky Fins. I've been hesitating to visit because we tried their sushi (that's sold at Reel Seafoods), and it was so gross that we threw most of it in the trash! However, a recent discussion with a friend convinced me to give it a try. Dad & I have been jonesing for a shrimp po-boy sandwich since our drive through the New Orleans area, and we finally got one today. First, we had the clam chowder. It was OK, but I probably wouldn't order it again. Next came the unique calamari. It was a large order of calamari rings, served hot with a nice light breading. We loved the key lime aioli that came with it. While we enjoyed that, the po-boy arrived. It was at least 4" tall & full of shrimp! The bread was soft (can't really call it a baguette) and just wonderful for the sandwich. I asked for the chipotle aioli to be served on the side, and I was glad I did... that sauce didn't pair well with the po-boy. Service was friendly, but a little bit inconsistent. The server didn't bring catsup, despite the mound of french fries on the plate. At the end, it seemed like a long wait for the check. Also, we were visited by a man who I gathered was the manager in a long-sleeved plaid shirt at the beginning of our meal. He said he'd be back to see how things went, but we were there for another hour and he didn't return. We liked the sea-related decor in the bar area, with the jellyfish lights and the metal sailfish. The main dining room, however, had very little in the way of ocean ambiance. The restrooms were clean & spacious. We'd certainly consider visiting again.

Been here a couple of times now. The food and service has been consistently excellent. We found the seafood menu to be somewhat limited, but what they do offer has been superb. We'll be back.

Lucky fins offers plentifully sized dishes for a reasonable price. If you're looking for the Seattle feel in boise this might be it. Lucky fins is still relatively new to the area, but already has garnered quite the customer base. There hasn't been a time that I've visited during dinner rush that it wasn't packed. This is also one of the problems. Lucky fins offers low amount of dining room seating and booth space is extremely limited. I'm talking like 5 booths to the whole restaurant. They do offer plenty of chair tables and the bar is filled with high stools, but sometimes it's nice to enjoy the booth. Another issue I've noticed is a lack of consistency in their entrées. Doesn't mean the food tastes poorly, but it could taste different depending on the chefs. I recommend the tempura sushi. MOJO. It's probably the best dish Lucky fins offers.

This place does not disappoint! The service & quality of food is great. I recommend the Smith and Hook Cabernet Sauvignon & flatbread trio. Overall everything I've ever had at Lucky Fins was really good.

We are visiting from CA, where fresh seafood is sometimes difficult to find and very expensive. We had just rolled into town and looked for restaurants on Yelp and found Lucky Fins. We were seated right away and drink orders taken right after. They have a decent wine selection where I ordered a glass. We then ordered the Thai ginger edamame and a dozen raw oysters. When they arrived they were beautiful, succulent and delicious. For an entree my wife and I shared the blackened halibut, while it was slightly overcooked it was very flavorful. The rice and vegetables that accompanied were not an afterthought. The we're fresh perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The service was prompt and accomodating. I recommend you try this restaurant, for us it was a great experience.

Always enjoy this place when I visit Boise. Great atmosphere and service. Have tried the seafood enchiladas, tacos, salmon and a variety of sushi (the spicy stuff is awesome). I would recommend starting with their thai ginger or habanero edamame. Parking is limited on the weekend.

Lucky Fins is the best seafood place we have ate at in Boise! We had the mahi black and bleu burger, mahi tacos, stuffed crab mushroom burger, and the scallop enchiladas. The four of us traded portions with each other and none of these items disappointed! And as a bonus, they gave my wife a free triple chocolate cake for her birthday! I have no complaints about the restaurant, the food, or the service! Thanks again Erik!

First time here. I wanted something different and this place hit the spot. The front hostoss sat me down right away. The server also came right away. She knew her specials. I ordered the sashimi salad but was surprised i got something else. I pressed for time so i decided just to eat it. The server was good enough to take it back but again i was pressed for time. The manager came out and said they will make it right and make it fast. They did that exactly. I have to give the management a thumps up for the service they gave me. Over all this place is great and i recommend it highly.

I give the food 3 stars but I give the service 4 I ordered a glass of wine, half a dozen oysters and the ahi salad. I wasn't happy with the oysters so the waitress kindly took them away and had them replaced (unbeknownst to me) with another type of oyster than I didn't even see listed on the menu. When the oysters arrived, she was very sneaky about it. The GM checked in with me to make sure I was happy and to ensure they lived up to my expectations. They did. They both checked on me a few more times (I was doing work during dinner so I stuck around for a while) and were truly genuine to myself and all the guests. Based on other reviews, I'll definitely come back to try other dishes and because the service was so great! Thank you Lucky Fins :)

  • Mick P.

Went in for appetizers - bad idea. The oysters on half-shell was OK but the crab stuffed mushrooms were terrible, contrary to the information on the menu the mushrooms were breaded and the crab stuffing was a firm dry ball of crab and bread. The mushrooms were totally raw. I suspect this was reheated from frozen. The crab cocktail was served in a ridiculous dry-ice contraption and the shrimp tasted of nothing except water - again I suspect frozen not fresh. Your only option is to smother the shrimp in the sugar filled cocktail sauce. The punchline - $40. Will not be going back.

Went here for lunch... Had the Lobster flatbread... It was really delicious, then had the lunch special of crabcake/lobster sandwich... The sandwich was dry and lacked flavor.... If I had of stuck with a couple flatbreads they would have knocked it out of the park... But sandwich brought them down to just "ok".... Too bad.. Good beer selection

These guys had the best Poke I've ever had. Good fish and shrimp tacos. The flatbread would be better if it was crunchier. It was hard to eat since all the toppings would fall off when you picked it up. Overall good food and good happy hour.

Pleasant, casual atmosphere with grilled seafood and sushi options. I had The Lobster Crab Cakes and split a El Diablo roll as an appetizer. Both were very good. I also got a double gin and tonic which actually tasted like a double. I will be back.

We had a late dinner here on Friday night. We showed up about 7:30 and there was still about a 20-30 minute wait for a table. The bar (which is small) was packed and there really is no waiting area so everyone was crowded by the front door which was a little awkward. Luckily a spot opened shortly at the bar where we were able to get a couple cocktails and ordered an appetizer of calamari while we waited for our table. Lots of menu choices here and the prices are decent for seafood. The calamari appetizer we had was good. All rings, no tentacles which was odd but they were cooked well. The sauce that came with them was nothing special. Tasted just like mayonnaise. My husband and I decided to order the crab and shrimp steamer platter for two. It started off with a salad which was really big for a just a dinner salad. Nice greens and cute bowls they were served in. Then out came our platter........Wow, lots of flavor and the crab although messy and time consuming to eat was well worth the elbow grease. The shrimp that came with the dish were big and cooked just right. There was also andouille sausage in the dish but I have to say the sausage was super salty and pretty inedible. Then to top the dish off, there was a pound of fries on top which was an added bonus! All of that for just $40, what a deal! The restaurant itself is on the small side. There is a bar above the restaurant that was playing music that you could hear downstairs in the restaurant which was also playing music so needless to say it was just noise all around. The restaurant should have turned off their music to at least not compete with the sound coming from upstairs. The service was really good and the staff was friendly. We didn't get to the dessert menu but it looked inviting. This place is pretty affordable for fresh seafood.

A nice suprise as I am used to good seafood from the Oregon Coast. The Oysters were good. My wife loved her Meditarnian Mahi Mani. We had several rolls of sushi- enjoyed them all. I need to try more of the fresh catch before I give it a five star rating but I definitely will be back.

I honestly have no idea why this restaurant is receiving great reviews. Our experience was terrible in food and service. We went for a late lunch on a Saturday and the place was empty! The waitress Sat us and offered the specials. She said to stay away from one of the specials because she just didn't like it. We ordered the captains platter and fish and chips. The fries were good but the seafood was bland. My husband got chowder and it was gooey. I just wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!

I had the lucky platter, not bad but a bit on the greasy side and over cooked. To bad cause the coleslaw was very good and the dipping sauce trio made the platter. Overall not bad but there's room for improvement.

New favorite family restaurant! I wanted to try something new and settled on this place after searching on Yelp and checking out the reasonably priced menu online. It was packed tonight and we were told we had a 25 minute wait, but I think it was more like 10 or 15. The hostesses are friendly, and our server was great as well. The restaurant has a nice ambiance. It's also on the noisy side. I was pleasantly surprised to see popcorn shrimp on the kids menu so our toddlers split that. It was lightly breaded and flavorful. I wanted to try the Hawaiian sliders. It was the one let down, only because I was expecting it to have some sort Hawaiian BBQ sauce but it was dry. My husband liked his steak even though he prefers rib-eye, and my step-daughter's burger was amazing. Ironic that the best burger I've had in a long time was at a seafood restaurant. They also have two kinds of fries, one basic and the other seasoned to taste like BBQ potato chips. I just had to try the fried ice cream for dessert. They use Captain Crunch for the crust. It was yummy and a fun throwback to my childhood. I look forward to returning and trying other things, namely that burger.

My wife and I went there for her 40th birthday and met up with some friends. We haven't been there in a while and didn't realize that they change their menu offerings. I didn't see the Island burger and asked about it and thats when I was told about the menu changes. But I'm happy to say that they still made the Island burger for me which was still fantastic. We had the Lobster flatbread trio which for 9.99 is a great deal. The street tacos that a friend had looked amazing too. Customer service was great, my only little complaint, they have wifi but it's locked and not available to guest. Also, they need a twitter account for specials. FB isn't the only player in town

Favorite restaurant in Idaho. Service is excellent. A little noisy, but not bothersome. Everything I have had is good. Fish tacos are to die for. Honey seared salmon is on pointe. Salmon dish is better than tilapia if you are trying to decide between the two.

We are from the East Coast and also lived in CA near SFO, so we are very picky about finding FRESH, seafood. THIS is the place to go in Meridian. The sushi is top notch because the tuna is very fresh! The halibut florentine was amazing too. Husband really liked the whiskey butter ribeye. Get there early as the lines get long, which is a good sign because you know the service and food is good. We'll be back!

The service was excellent but I had mixed feelings about the food at this restaurant. The first thing I tried was a creamy roasted poblano and jalapeño soup. This soup was awesome. The flavor was perfect with just enough jalapeño to give it a bite but not enough to overpower the poblano or other spices. I was disappointed though with the BLT wedge salad. While the portion size was huge, it came with just a drizzle of a very runny blue cheese dressing which pretty much ran off the lettuce before I could eat it. Worse yet, the dressing had very little taste and almost no blue cheese in it. While they told me that they made it themselves, I would have bet that it was a cheap house brand dressing. Not that is was bad; it was just slightly below average. The promise of the soup might cause me to return if I am town long enough but I wouldn't make an effort to return.

Dined there and all our dishes were over cooked. Cooking fish is not rocket science. The water tasted like the smell of an old sour dish rag.

Mahi tacos were great but the roles were the stars of our dinner. Waitress was very nice. The owner came out and spoke with us. Everyone was so nice! A prefect dinner in Meridian.

When my husband and I walked into the restaurant tonight, we almost walked out because the acoustics were so poor. No fabric anywhere...We hoped the rest of our experience would be better as there are good ratings on yelp. Unfortunately nothing lived up to expectations. The sushi was filled with way too much rice, the fish was cheap. The server, although she was a very well-meaning girl, was not able to speak loud enough for us to hear. In general, the staff seemed to be helpful, but did not know what is appropriate on different occasions.

Great service by Desa and flexibility of the kitchen to split the two edamame appetizer options into one order so I could try both options. Awesome Poki - which is hard to find. Very good food and very reasonably priced. Would love to come back.

Well, I have never written a mediocre review as of yet, but I am afraid I must. My family went to Lucky Fins tonight and quite frankly I was a little disappointed. I had eaten at the downtown location, and that was fine. I had the Fin's sampler with coconut shrimp, fried shrimp and cod. It was good, but not outstanding. I thought I would give other things a try out near my home in Meridian. I ordered a crabcake to start. $6.99, with one average size cake which was way more cake than crab, and I do believe I spotted crab with a "K" if you know what I mean (immitation crab for anyone who doesn't get my drift) the topping was interesting with green onions, roasted corn, tomato and a barbecuey tasting sauce. Strangely enough, I didn't really taste any crab, and neither did my husband, eh, next. So salads were fine and good size, no complaints there (I had a caesar and it was good), then I ordered the cedar planked scallops with loaded mashed potatoes. When it arrived I was a bit confused because there were 3 scallops on the plank, and I mean three scallops that were not large scallops by any means, larger than a quarter, but perhaps slightly smaller than a half dollar. It had the same garnish that the crab cake had, with the barbequely sauce that was suppose to be some bacony thing. THEY LEFT THE MUSCLE ON the scallops, which for $18.99 bothered me. Any respectable seafood restaurant should always remove the muscle from the scallop before serving it! Yes, perhaps I am spoiled as I lived in the Bay Area for 12 years and got use to wonderful seafood. Yes, the scallops were cooked correctly and they were good, not a grain of sand, BUT SERIOUSLY 3 #@%$!!! for $18.99. Felt pretty jiped to tell you the truth. OK, I can see maybe $15.99 and I wouldn't be so offended, but charging $18.99 for 3 small scallops is a bit steep. My husband ordered the Forbiden Ahi tuna (prepared seared) He felt that the fish had been frozen, which I was under the impression that they flew in their seafood. He did however really like the veg that went with it, some sauted squash in a teryiaki sauce. It was good, I tried it, my squash and veg were cooked in garlic, and it was alright. The kids meals looked great, and my son had the sliders and he said they were wonderful, and it looked like most of the kids meals were around $5, and that is great. I will give it another try, but I think I will stick to the better deals and more pedestrian fare, as that seems to be the better value. They have soup and salad for $7.99 would be a wonderful deal. As far as being an upscale dining experience, nah.....but a nice weekend night out. I just don't want to drop another $85 on a dinner that was worth maybe $50.

In a word: Delicious! The service is quick, concise and friendly. You know you have great service when they bring you something you need before you even ask. I LOVE that. That is how every server works at Lucky Fins. They are mind readers. There is typically a saying that you should not eat seafood so far inland. That is not true for Lucky Fins Grill. Whenever I am in town visiting family (having lived in Seattle and San Francisco) this is my first choice to eat at. The sashimi is incredibly fresh and everything is top quality. My favorites: 1. Poke appetizer. your tummy will thank you 2. Hamachi Sashimi with jalapenos. This reminds me of the incredible Hamachi that is served at the famous Nobu restaurants in Las Vegas and San Diego. Mouthwateringly delicious. 3. Fish & Chips 4. Lobster Pizza Least favorite: 1. This odd soup that had red bell peppers but did not say on the menu it had bell peppers. I despise bell peppers. Needless to say, I hated it.

We went to lucky fins to celebrate my birthday. I called in ahead as there were six of us going. When we got there we were seated at a very small table that uncomfortably fit six people. The wine selection was great. We got a bottle of moscato and it was very enjoyable. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms and the crunchy sushi roll for appetizers. They were both delicious. We all ordered the crab. It came on these giant plates that did not fit at our table. They were hanging off the edge. It was a challenge through out the meal to keep it from dumping off of the table edge into our laps. The crab was good...but it's kinda hard to screw that up. The crab came with fries. They were delicious for about five minutes until the crab juice absorbed into them and made them soggy, which was kinda gross. So would I go back? Maybe. I think I will try a different location next time. It was not as great as I had heard.

Great lunches here! The lunch specials are pretty reasonable at 10 to 15 considering it is seafood. Their pastas, dish tacos and grilled fresh fish dinners are all very good Tony

Yummy, we get a couple spicy rolls and sushi and just enjoy ourselves. Sometimes the chef has a tuna cheek that isn't on the menu but it's worth asking for. The servers are always great and the owners are often in the building. We keep buying gift cards for our friends and then using them ourselves before we give them away.

Best fish n chips in town!, try it, u'll not regret it! As much as i love to have 3 pieces, I can't finish it so I have to settle for 2. I love their fuji apple salad that comes with it. Tried their shrimp cocktail and it was awesome. :)

This restaurant has only been open for all of a week, so it was pretty empty when I came for dinner. I'm surprised because the food AND service here were really good! It's a little hard to find, but from Eagle Rd., when you see Red Robin, Lucky Fins is in the same center close by. First, let me say that the staff here are ridiculously helpful and friendly! They even let me sample the soups before I decided on my order, which made me want to order a ton of food...even though I was eating by my lonesome (don't judge!). Cedar plank salmon w/roasted veggies and hot potato salad - Huge portion and everything on the plate was good. The friggin hot potato salad...trust me on this one and just get it! It's diced potato with cheese, bacon, and green onion...how could you go wrong?! Coconut shrimp - Good Soups - Clam and the other one...Good - The clam chowder was not as thick as I'm used to, but it had tons of clam and the flavor was a good different. House salad - Huge portion and could actually almost be an entree salad. Also, it had mixed greens. Not just the cheap iceberg lettuce only salads...Thank goodness! Hopefully, the business here will pick up because it seems like it has potential to become very sucessful!

i love to frequent this place! i used to always get the crab cake entree but they've recently changed the recipe. it's good, but i think the previous recipe was better. not a fan of the sushi, i've had better. but the atmosphere and service are always great, the prices reasonable, and the food good. i usually never eat coleslaw but their fuji apple slaw is the bomb! i also highly recommend the crab stuffed mushroom appetizer! when no one is watching, i will sometimes actually lick the plate clean after having those! They also do take out. presentation is definitely not as strong when doing take out, but i don't expect it to be. the food is still good. one of the freshest seafood places in this area, so i'm a fan!

Wow, what a disappointment. I feel bad for Idahoans if they think this is good seafood. I guess I should have known better. Seafood in Idaho? But they said fish is flown in fresh daily. My server was great. Sympathetic even. I don't think she knew any better. Bless her heart, as we say down south.... The calamari was body rings only. Over cooked. Tough. Yuk. Not fresh. My fault for ordering calamari in Idaho, I know. How about a shrimp cocktail? Are they from our continent? Nope. Indonesia and India. Skip it. I thought, hey, maybe a fluke. Bring on the crab cakes! Oh, they are red crab? Hmmm. Ok I will try them. Terrible. Salty. Mostly binder. Looked like identical twin corn fritters. Guarantee you they were frozen in a box 5 minutes before they hit my table. Ugh! SAMs club would have something better in the freezer section - I am not kidding. I don't know why, but I stayed and ordered the just flown in seared tuna special. It was seared all right. Seared into complete submission and damn near well done. Wine was good. Server was sympathetic an service was good. She offered to comp the calamari. I didn't want to go through the hassle.

Had high expectations but frankly did not come close to meeting them... Good atmosphere with lots of people and energy. Sat at the bar for a drink while we waited for our table. The food just was not really that good sadly. Two appetizers were not what I expected...both were fried and didn't need to be. The crab stuffed mushrooms tasted as if they had been frozen and were deep fried. The shrimp had good flavor but again were fried and were almost as small as bay shrimp. My catfish entree was good...crisp and not greasy. My wife's cedar salmon was under-seasoned and all you could taste was the cedar plank...some salt and pepper livened it up, but doing that in the kitchen would have been much better. Key lime pie oddly enough might have been the best food of the night... I will give them credit for not being a chain in this area, but it isn't some place I will feel the need to go back to based on this experience.

We've been there 3 times, the first time their Liquor license was being held up by the city fathers!!! The second time I had the Fish & Chips and my wife had Sushi, which she did like, as did I my Fish & Chips. The third we also enjoyed our meals. The service has been very good and they seem to be trying to get things right. We'll be back tonight with a couple friends so I can edit or repost. I would give it 5 stars but I figure there's always room for improvement or at least maintaining higher quality. EDIT! New Years Eve dinner was awesome, all our meals were great, from the Prime Rib, Crab, Salmon to the appetizer. As usual service was great! We were in the bar tonight, I had the Fish & Chips again and will again in the future! If you have an issue, talk to the owner, I bet he'll more than make it right. I had to give it 5 stars now... they keep trying to do better, as far as we can tell.

Very friendly service. Great place to take a first date or current girlfriend. Like the menu. They have great sushi for the fish lovers but also a complete open menu. They also have a huge selection in there bar which is nice for a small restaurant like this one

Been there...won't go there again. It was equal...maybe a half step up from Red Lobster! Food was awful. Grilled romaine, way too much garlic. Lobster crab cakes...sauce so spicy you never tasted anything fish related. Service was sub par, and was glad to get our check and run.... Time, money and a Saturday evening wasted.

The clam chowder was okay. We had the "all you can eat crab" and surprisingly the crab was seasoned with increasing amounts of salt each time a new plate was delivered to the table." The crab became very distasteful and unappetizing. Other entrees such as the steak, shrimp pasta was good.

I have eaten at Lucky Fins many times before and had good luck, but this last time I had the mojo roll and got horrible food poisoning. I called the manager to have him check into it and he did everything he could to deny that it was their sushi that made me sick. All I can say is eat at your own risk. If the manager is turning a blind eye to food poisoning I can't imagine what else is being swept under the rug.

My brother brought us here because he had a good experience in the past. We came Sunday afternoon. No wait, but the music was pop radio, too loud, not a great atmosphere. Brother said it was better Friday night. Not great service. I chose the halibut fish taco and must say it was the worst fish taco I have ever had. They are very small and should be listed strictly as an appetizer, but I was hoping for good flavor to make up for the size. They were very small pieces of halibut which I could not taste due to the breading. The sauce was no better. Very disappointed. Tried my mom's salmon dish; the salmon was so-so, Atlantic is not the best salmon to begin with; however, the mashed potatoes were very yummy and her desert, Mango cake, was also good. Can't say I would go back to Fins.

We've dined at Lucky Fins several times, and twice during the past two weeks. We've thoroughly enjoyed the food every time! The prices of the standard dishes on the menu are all very reasonable -- many of the entrees are priced below $15 even for dinner. The specials offered are priced higher, but the ones we've tried have been worth every penny. I've tried several types of fish that I'd never heard of previously, and all were beautifully prepared. My husband is less adventurous, and always gets the fish and chips. The fish are nice and crispy, and not at all greasy. The french fries are nice and thin, and perfectly seasoned. He also loves the clam chowder, but I'm not as big a fan -- just a different taste than I'm used to. I prefer the wedge salad, which has is topped with bacon, egg, and plenty of additional blue cheese. I don't usually eat dessert, but since everyone else was having some tonight, I ordered the mango cake. I ate the whole thing! It was a light sponge cake with mango creme between the layers, and a pureed mango topping. Served with raspberry sauce and whipped cream -- so good! The staff is very attentive and helpful. We've had great service every visit. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed. One negative is that when full, the restaurant is quite noisy! No carpet, booths, or padded surfaces to absorb the sound. Not the place to try to have an involved conversation or a quiet romantic dinner. If that's important to you, be sure to arrive at a non-peak time.

Awesome! So nice to have a great Seafood restaurant in Meridian. Went last Sat. night. Had to wait for 20 minutes so had some drinks in the bar. It was worth the wait...some of the best food I have had in the Boise area. The service was great and the head chef even came out to visit with his guests. The prices are so reasonable we were not expecting the food to be so good. My Tilapia was amazing with the lemon sauce. Only $12 The potatoes are really fantastic as well. The pumpkin bundt cake dessert was really tasty as well. Best part of the meal was the poblano and jalapeno soup. I could eat that everyday!!! I can't wait to go back and try their other dishes!

My son has eaten at Lucky Fins several times, and enjoyed it, so we chose to go there yesterday for a mother/son lunch. While I waited for him to arrive from a business meeting, I ordered some Calimari. Delicious! I could have made a whole meal on that alone. (For the woman who thought the sauce didn't have any flavor, she should have taken a taste of it alone. Amazing! I could drink the stuff! It definitely enhances the Calamari--which was tender and delicious on its own, as well.) My son and I then ordered the Mediterranean Mahi-Mahi and Drunkin' Sailor Salmon--both yummy! We'll be back!

Fresh, non-fried fish and seafood is hard to come by in the Boise area, and I am glad that this place has opened to fill that void! The first thing that impressed us with the menu were the PRICES. Unlike most seafood restaurants, most of the dishes were under $15. The specials on that particular night were a few bucks more, which is still helluva reasonable for the product you're ordering! While there are some fried items on the menu, most of the entrees highlight healthier preparation methods. In addition, the variety of fish used was diverse, as well as the methods of preparation. For our visit, our order came from both the special 'fresh' board, as well as the menu. Everything was above-average quality, and our server did an excellent job to make sure that our visit met our expectations, and the chef/owner made sure to stop by every table to introduce himself as well. My favorite part of the meal was the Escolar poke appetizer - it was all I could do to not lick the martini glass it came in! I foresee us making the trek from SE Boise to the dreaded Eagle Rd./Fairview intersection on a regular basis - it's just that good. Update: I'm just editing this in an attempt to 'unfilter' my review...not sure why it was filtered in the first place?! We visited this place, loved it, and plan on going back - end of story!!!

This restaurant was a complete disappointment. My sister and I ate dinner... We ordered the calamari with lime aoli for dipping. The calamari was bland, and the dipping sauce didn't have a hint of lime... it was almost tasteless. We asked for cocktail sauce, which was much better. For dinner, we ordered the fried shrimp combo, which was ok, but we weren't impressed with the smothered mashed potatoes. They had so much garlic, that's all you could taste. Our waitress was new, and it was apparent. She didn't hear us order one of our dishes, so we had to wait awhile to get the other entree. She didn't seem very concerned with her mistake, and may have offered an apology, but that was the extent of it. We ordered the black and blue fish (I don't remember the type of fish). The sauce was completely bland, and the fish wasn't seasoned any better. The loaded mashed potatoes were no different than the first, completely overpowered by garlic. We also ordered a cup of clam chowder, which also needed salt, and had not a bit of clam or potato in it. Two margaritas, one cup of soup, two entrees, and an appetizer plus tip was around $75. We weren't only disappointed in the whole experience, but mad that we spent that kind of money for food that was bland and tasteless for the most part. I will not be back!

I really enjoyed my experience here. Everyone said happy birthday to me even though they weren't my server . I was disappointed they put bacon in the shrimp salad but I didn't read the menu correctly lol. They were friendly, attentive, and really on top of their service. I will definitely visit again when we are in town.

My husband and I come here occasionally. We have recently discovered that Lucky Fins has an all-day Happy Hour on Sunday which has a variety of Sushi, drinks, tacos, etc on it. Great Happy Hour Menu at great prices! My personal favorite dish on the regular menu is Mediterranean Mahi Mahi. It is served with seasonal vegetables and the fish is pan seared and topped with a bleu cheese dill sauce and served on a bed of rice pilaf and sautéed artichoke hearts and spinach. Yum! My husband likes to order Sushi. The waitress messed up my order last time I was there. She brought out Mahi Mahi Tacos instead. I am not picky and would have eaten it (because it looked really good) but the tacos had tomatoes in them which I happen to be allergic to. She was horrified that she served me something I was allergic to and got the kitchen right on making what I actually ordered, which was the Mediterranean Mahi Mahi. She checked with me a few times in the 8-10 minutes it took to get my order out and the manager came by also. They really did a good job of trying to make it right. She took one of my husband's cocktails off the check to help make up for the mistake. The atmosphere is good. It gets REALLY busy on Friday and Saturday nights. The bar seating area can get really loud when they have live music, but it's fun.

This place is a great new addition to the bleak Meridian dining scene. Lucky Fins was opened in the same location of the defunct Blue Ribbon Bistro. This location has seen quite a few flops since Blue Ribbon Bistro. There was a terrible Italian restaurant, followed by a "gourmet" burger place. I have a feeling that Lucky Fins is here to stay. I had the blackened catfish with bourbon creme sauce and crawfish tails. I have to say that it was the best seafood dish I've had in the Boise area. I'm not sure where they get the crawfish in this area but they were superb. The catfish was cooked perfectly and the seasoning was spot on. The restaurant does seem to have a bit of an identity crisis. The menu features a mix of Cajun, Mexican, Jamaican, Italian and Sushi. (WTF?) I guess the focus is seafood but I fear that any restaurant that spreads itself out over so many cuisines tends to lose focus. That doesn't seem to be the case yet at Lucky fins. I tried their one of their specialty sushi rolls and it was incredible. There's no doubt that I'll be making this one of my favorites in the months to come.

Between a 2 and 3 stars. Food was a 3. Had the planked salmon. Not a lot of flavor but enjoyable. My husband had the marlin which was seasoned nicely but dry. The big negative was once we were seated we were ignored while she cleared a table (it was only 5pm so they were not busy). When she got it cleared we still did not see her in dining hall for quite awhile. Ok so to me here is the biggy- if you seat in the dining room Happy Hour does not pertain to you. We sat a table 10 feet from the bar but would have to move to get happy hour prices. REALLY!! We giggled on the way out that their fake smiles and thank yous made us feel like they were happier to see us go then come.

This place advertises they have sushi but i guess that its only on selective days. The servers are good but most the food is average. The party of 8 i was with where all torn on what we thought of our meal. I thought it was ok some thought it wasnt good and expressed they where not interested in returning while others thought it was really good. All in all im not impressed and have no intentions on going back to this place as for the quility of the food is not worth the price they charge.

They tout having a reasonably priced menu which is true, but WATCH OUT for those drink prices!!! $5-$6 beers! Fresh seafood, but they drench the fish in sauces. Flooded our plates! Husband and I were both ill after our meal. "Junk" floating in & settling out of both of our beers, so not sure what caused the illness...food or something ick in the beer lines? Service was rushed and gal was for forgetful.

This restaurant is still pretty new to the Treasure Valley. A little hard to find unless you are looking for it, which is probably why it wasn't very crowded. Atmosphere is very nice. Love the lighting. Agree with the last reviewer, the staff was super friendly and very eager to answer any questions. We had the calamari appetizer with a key lime aioli, which was good (it is the fried strips type not the rings and tentacles, which makes it easier for some people to enjoy if they can't get past the look of it). Aioli could have had a little more lime in it, but it was still very tasty. Their iceberg wedge salad was very good. Nice cool crunch, with lots of flavor punch from the toppings. I had the baja crusted rainbow trout, pretty good - the fish was cooked perfectly, and the crust was a nice texture. Personally, I think it could have had a bit more salt. Chef might have expected the crushed tortilla chips to lend more salt than they did. My son let me try a bite of his fins fish tacos, and they were excellent! Great balance of flavors and a nice level of spice. My husband had the baja seafood enchiladas. The flavor was great, but flour tortillas in enchiladas always seems a little odd to us. The texture of corn tortillas seem to hold up so much nicer to the sauce. My son also couldn't help but to get the captain crunch fried ice cream, which was a fun alternative to the traditional variety. All in all it was a fun experience and the food really was very good. I would love to see them become more popular, they have so much potential in becoming a great restaurant. I look forward to going back and trying some more of their menu.

Been to Lucky Fins over a half dozen times the last few months, and I have to say I am becoming a regular. The host staff and wait staff are friendly and helpful, but the food is the star here. I love all their entrees, the soups are fantastic, especially the roasted poblano and jalapeno soup, very creamy and delicious. The clam chowder is great as well, but I generally prefer it a little thicker, but nonetheless, very good. The Fettuccine of the Bayou is a very good dish, and spicy which is what I love. It has andouille sausage, scallops, and vegetables tossed in noodles with a spicy creamy sauce. They have sushi there as well, which I haven't tried yet but hear good things. The only dessert I can personally testify on is the Key Lime Pie, and is very, very tasty. Overall, I come here very often and have yet to be disappointed in the food.

We dined at this restaurant at lunchtime on Saturday, Feb. 4th. My first impression was that the atmosphere was warm & inviting. From there, it went downhill. It was clear that our server needed additional training in providing attentive & prompt service, along with proper etiquette. We had to ask for everything, more than once. And leaning over my plate to point out the 2 or so pieces of lobster in my "Lobster Mac & Cheese" dish was a real turn-off! The only plus on service was earned by the efficient young woman who came later to refill our drinks & clear our plates. As for the food, it was not worth the price. The Lobster Mac & Cheese was overly (& inedibly) salty & presented only with a wedge of dry toasted bread. My friend also was not happy with her Fish & Chips dish. We ordered dessert with the hope that it would make up for the disappointing entrees. The Key Lime Pie was good, but it would take a lot to make us want to go back! Don't know why my review was filtered. It was an honest assessment of our experience.
