It's hard to say the name, "Ketchum," without smiling, just a little. What will I do with 'um when they get caught? Release 'um? Maybe that takes a little bit of the exclusive edge off of what is undeniably a fancypants, arguably even chic, resort town with the high-end real estate and myriad golf courses, art galleries, wine bars, and ski lifts to prove it. The problem is that, if you are coming into town from the North, over mighty Galena Pass, past the aptly-named Boulder Mountains, past steaming Easley Hot Springs (totally worth a visit), and along the clear-flowing Big Wood River, in a late spring rain mixed with flashes of cloud-dappled sunshine, it's just too damn majestic and Rocky Mountain beautiful to care about the people around you who may or may not be richer than half the town of Arco (hell, the whole town, really). So, what better place to come for a quick bite than a place named after the river that runs through it - rather than a shameless Sun Valley tie-in or Italian-sounding fluff job? I admire anyone who calls their bakery Bigwood without cracking an adolescent smile. The BBC (which sounds cooler imo as an acronym) has a fairly wide range of $15 or under lunch options, and they don't stint on quality ingredients or well-trained, friendly staff. My needs were desperately simple - wholesome calories to get me to my next destination, some quiet downtime from the road, a no-nonsense exchange of cash for goods and services. And that's what I got, for an Alexander Hamilton from my wallet and $1 cash jar tip: roasted turkey on house-baked rye, with house-made cranberry chutney, Swiss, lettuce, tomato, Dijon, touch of mayo - cleanly sliced, conveniently toothpicked, helpfully served with a dill pickle wedge, twisted orange slice, and extra napkin, with cold water and clean glasses for self-service, with neat tables and bright, airy surfaces for enjoying the Ketchum lunchtime scene during an offpeak season between snow sports and summertime fun. If I had been in the area in say, February or June, I'd likely have stopped at the lovely Galena Lodge for a great, hearty, and healthy lunch - a place sublimely perfect for Nordic skiers during snow season and supremely well-suited for hikers and mountain bikers in summer. But it's good have places down in the fancypants valley like Bigwood as a Plan B for a late breakfast or light lunch that won't fill you up or empty out your bank, and where you likely will leave satisfied and eager for more. I'll add it to my list of cheap thrill $15 road trip culinary adventures, for sure.

Summer Sunday 11 am. People want breakfast. Lots of people. The cafe is staffed with confused slow teenagers. Most tables are waiting for their orders. Customers come inside, assess the situation, turn around and walk right back out. Quite hopeless. We make a great effort to have tourists come to town then treat them to impossible situations. A nice late breakfast on Sunday is a typical request in any resort town.

Waited 20 minutes in line and then another 40 minutes for our food. This is the worst egg salad sandwich I've ever had. Seriously, how do you screw up egg salad?! When I asked the waitress for hot sauce, she told me to go get it myself. Wow. This place sucks and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.

Why would this place have anything less than 5 stars? Can I give 6 stars? Best service. Best coffee. Best food. I'm going to go home and compare all coffee cake to theirs and it will likely fall short. If there weren't people watching, I would have licked crumbs off the plate. I didn't want to disgust anyone. I must stop by here before I leave and get a full breakfast.

A bagel with lox and a medium drip coffee = $18.47 all in. Horrible value...this is why I only come here once or twice a year. Disappointing.

The "Bird Seed" cookie (aka Oatmeal Raisin cookie, but it's so much more than that) might be the best cookie I've ever had! Great latte, breakfast sandwiches, etc. as well. Great outdoor seating, good people watching and friendly owners.

Their original location has been busy making bread for many Sun Valley restaurants for years now, but they opened this full service restaurant in downtown Ketchum just last year. Counter service makes it a good spot for a fast lunch, ideal when you have little ones in tow. Everything on the menu sounded great. I went with a breakfast sandwich (they serve breakfast all day). My husband and mil ordered the special (some sort of brisket sandwich). My father in law went with a bagel and cream cheese, as well as the kale and quinoa salad. As for the kiddos...pb&j for kiddo #1 and grilled cheese for kiddo #2. It was a bit chilly to take advantage of their lovely patio so we opted for a table in the very back of the restaurant where our loud kids wouldn't be able to bother too many people. While waiting for our food I enjoyed a much needed Starbucks iced latte. The kids started to get a bit rowdy so we asked if they could bring out their food first and they brought it out right away. We all raved about our food. While my breakfast sandwich was great i may have to try something else next time. We also got some carrot cake (my fave) to go, which I'm sure won't disappoint. I'm sure we will end up here again before we say goodbye to the mountains this year.

I love their breakfast! The galena bowl or almond croissant are my usual but I have never had a bad meal here. I sometimes just come in for their carrot cake (my vegetable for the day:) and chocolate chocolate chip cookie, they are yummy!

Great birdseed pancakes. Wife loved 'em so much we came back on way out of town cuz their menu board said breakfast all day. Alas, they for some reason don't do the pancakes past noon. We were here at 12:10. Oh well. Would of loved to of bought and taken the pancake mix with us. Good, good food.

Not real good. I expect something great for a $10 BLT sandwich and a pickle. Bread was stale and the sandwich dry. My wife had a chicken salad. Chicken cooked well but little dressing and it was under seasoned. On the plus side it all was fresh, clean place, and the staff was nice.

Visited here twice for breakfast while on vacation. Space is cute, service was great and the food was filling! I'd definitely return.

Best bakery & cafe anywhere! The food is fantastic, people are nice and love the warm fireplace on a cold day. Must go back to try other menu items and baked goods! The packaged breads & cookies make great Christmas gifts!

Ordered a breakfast sandwich with ham on asiago; the bagel was amazing. Great breakfast to start out the day. Strong Starbucks brewed coffee (would have preferred local coffee since they pride themselves on local and organic). Overall, cute relaxing place with a great view of baldy and downtown Ketchum!

Best place in the valley for breakfast sandwiches. The bread can't be beat. I enjoyed a Canadian breakfast sandwich with eggs, Canadian bacon and Mornay sauce on a croissant. Delicious.

The Bigwood Bread itself has always been a a defining characteristic of Ketchum, and its sandwich cafe in the bakery once had the best soups and sandwiches in town. After years when it felt as though no one cared anymore, the place relocated and is restored itself to its former excellence! The Chili and fresh soups are piquant and delicious. The Egg Salad Sandwich came with fresh local tomato and onion and an olive tapenade spread, but there is a huge variety available. No soft drinks, only Snapple and bottled water, but they said wine would be available soon. Welcome back!

I'm not a local but I'm guessing this is a new or satellite location for this bakery. Nice little cafe in an old house right in the downtown area. We came in from our nearby hotel looking for a simple breakfast and good coffee and found it here. I had a garlic bagel that was warm and good and great cup of coffee. The others in our group had poached eggs and bacon. Not fancy but good also. Not a lot of seating but fine for the off season. Once the ski season hits I'm sure it will be a grab and go place primarily.
