I came here because I wanted to try out the boba. It wasn't bad at all. I ordered the honeydew boba, and it was alright. I've tried better ones in California. I was surprised they have so many flavors that I don't see in many boba shops in California, so that was pretty cool.

Yesterday was my first time ordering from this place. I had chicken katsu curry to go (I uploaded the chicken katsu picture). Katsu looked too brown, almost burnt.. It didn't look very appetizing. The curry however was pretty good, and I was craving for Japanese curry the other day, hence the 3 stars. I might come back to try the teriyaki menu..

This location works well for me, and their service and food make me a pretty "happy camper". I recommend the teriyaki rice bowls which can have your choice from several options like chicken.

Like some of the other Yelpers here, I am an Oregon transplant and found Yokozuna while I was craving Mashita's (which I never knew was a chain until now). I agree, it certainly is no comparison to Mashita's, but it's still a good little joint. I'm always impressed at the diversity in Boise, seeings as it's not that large. I ordered online and grabbed it on my way home. I got what I alwaaaays get from Mashita's: Beef Yakisoba with no veggies. The staff wasn't the friendliest, and it took her a few minutes to find my order. She even asked me if I had ordered from THAT store. Umm, yeah. The food was okay, not quite the flavor of Teriyaki I'm used to, and not nearly as much sauce as I'm used to. I hate to review Yokozuna on a comparison to Mashita's, so I'm determined to stop in another time and get something different. I will report back then!

I had the shrimp peanut noodle dish and the pot stickers. The only thing I didn't care for was the pot stickers, they were deep fried. The noodle dish was tasty and it had a little heat to it. Friendly staff.

My go to delivery resturaunt on vista. When I don't feel like cooking but want something healthy the chicken teriyaki bowl is perfect. I love that the online ordering process is easy and you can customize. Price is good and food taste great.

Had the chicken bowl today. It hit the spot. I have been craving bento, and this place looks promising. I want to go back and try everything on the menu. Prices are very reasonable, and it is very laid back but clean. I would recommend this for a quick lunch, or a relaxed dinner. Update 1/30/15: This is my go-to bento place in Boise, and really one of my favorite casual dining restaurants in general. Very excited they opened one downtown.

This place has become a permanent weekly fixture for me. I love their chicken teriyaki rice bowl! I've tired their peanut noodles not a big fan. I'm going to start venturing out and trying different things

Great place for good fast teriyaki. Steamed veggies are also yummy. I've never had a negative experience with the staff. Super tasty and definitely one of my go-to places!

One of my favorite places to eat at the Bench! Had the steak and shrimp bowl finished the whole thing and washed it down with a peach boba tea. You can either choose brown or white rice with the bowls and this rice is very good because it is sticky rice so it holds together really well. Not only was there steak and shrimp in the bowl they also include some mixed veggies. While you are there you have to get the boba tea! It comes in a lot of different flavors the one I chose was peach and it was amazing! Also called bubble tea because it has actual tapioca balls in there! You get a thicker straw so your able to pull them up. Really good!! I recommend this place to anyone!

Yum! I don't know what I haven't been in this place before. Been twice in two days. Friday I had the peanut noodles with chicken. Really tasty and a generous portion. Lunch and a drink for under $10! Had to spicy beef onion bowl with brown rice. Not a at all spicy, but still really good and a very generous portion. Again, under $10. My friend had the beef/chicken/shrimp combo both times and she raved about it. Again - under $10. See a pattern? Good, filling food for not a lot of cash. It's all good!

Good food but slow as paint drying service. Waited for thirty minutes. Only ordered a teryaki bowl and Cali roll. Took forever!

Love this place, I come here every time on a business trip. Their yakasoba is delicious and don't forget to try the checken/steak bowl.

Yokozuna Teriyaki never fails to satisfy my taste-buds. My "go-to" item is the Chicken Sweet Onion Bowl. They allow me to customize my order and let me say "Give it to me spicy, baby!". That's one thing I LOVE about Yokozuna: they let you customize anything or alter anything on the menu to your preferences. Another great thing about Yokozuna is that they are quick in making your order, but it is very FRESH and made on the spot. It is also healthy: local veggies, option of brown or white rice, fresh sustainable meat choices such as pork, beef and chicken (as well as Tofu for you lovely vegetarians). It is a great portion size as well: very large for the great price.I always am excited to get Yokozuna to take home with me for leftovers later. Healthy, low calorie meals that ALWAYS satisfy with lots of flavor. They also just opened up a new location in the heart of downtown making it convenient to access. I would go out of my way in a heartbeat to go get me my Yokozuna, but I don't even have to because the locations are so convenient. They offer great items like bubble teas (with around 50 flavors), rice bowls, noodle bowls, flanken ribs, and many other Asian inspired dishes that you can dream up. The taste is very clean and delicious. Always a taste bud pleaser!

It was pretty good. Everyone was raving about it so I gave it a try. I had the chicken and steak my wife had the steak and onions. The food was decent but it going to take the time to pay to park and walk two blocks to spend $40 I would prefer matador. The kids love it if you're already downtown give it a try.

Slow service. Good tasting food. Tip line on the credit card receipt for counter service only. What's the tip for?

It's a shame that Yokozuna can't do a little better to make the place feel cozy. A long wall of too-tall chairs facing a blank wall are often the only seating option, and in cold weather, there is always an uncomfortable gust every time the door opens. And then there's the inevitable, impossible to avoid television constantly running in the corner. I have had some really good food at Yokozuna in the past (specifically, the bobas, edamame, and several of the rice bowls). In fact, throughout its first year, I would have given it a four-star rating. However, my most recent visit made me fear that things are starting to drift downhill. The sushi rolls were "meh" at best . . . mushy and tasteless . . . and the beef in my bento tasted a bit like mystery meat, and not very fresh, at that. I was also disappointed that the citrusy dressing that has really perked up past bento-box salads was no longer available. So . . . even though I have been there many times before, next time I find myself looking for lunch up on the bench, I will probably look for another option.

Just tried out the location in Meridian for the first time for lunch...didn't realize they had one in Boise, so this only reflects the Meridian location. Their website touts "healthy teriyaki..." but based on my experience today, I'll beg to differ. Actually the salmon teriyaki and the sushi my wife got were both okay (overpriced, not a lot of veggies, etc...) but passable. The real problem was with the "gyoza" which we also ordered...fried, dripping in grease with some sort of meat product included...literally one bite and I had to spit it out. Worse than that was the reaction I got upon telling the employees there was a problem...."how so?" was their reaction to my telling them they were not eatable. When I told them the taste, the grease and the filling...they literally just stood there and looked at me. No offer to make it up to me, no offer for my money back, etc... I could buy some brown rice and a bottle of teriyaki sauce at Albertson's and have a better experience at home!

Careful. the unagi don has TERIYAKI sauce on it ("surprise"), not kabayaki. However, the eel is cooked nicely otherwise, and the rice isn't bad. Priced well. They have bubble tea too (!), which I have yet to try. But really, Teriyaki. That's about it.

For my dollar and my vibe, Yokozuna is THE BOMB. I've never been dissapointed nor have I left less than satisfied. On a warm day, a bubble tea is the perfect end to a meal there. I enjoy the curries, the terriyaki and the gyoza (one at a time of course.. hee). The place is generally crowded at lunch but you can call ahead or even order online- and THEY DELIVER. As an aside, I heartily disagree with the first poster, and as a transplanted Oregonian I'm annoyed by a comparison to Portland. Boise isn't Portland and it never will be no matter how long any one hopes it. So you take the experiences in Boise and roll with them. Yokozuna puts out good food at good prices and great portions. The staff is friendly and they deserve success. Go forth and chow down!

I've been to the Vista Ave location and the Fairview location. It's obvious that the Vista Ave location is more established... to me, the food is much better. Each time I had the chicken teriyaki with brown rice (LOVE that they have brown rice as an option) and veggies and a bubble tea. LOVE the bubble tea (it's kind of hard to mess that up!) - but at the Fairview location the chicken was a lot harder/drier than the Vista location's. I will definitely go back again - the teriyaki was tasty and it's not just a teriyaki joint. It's probably the closest I've had to teriyaki in Seattle since I've lived here.

You can find Yokozuna tucked away on Fairview in a small strip mall. Drove by it a hundred times without noticing it and only dropped in because the wife and I did an Interwebs search for something we haven't tried. Yokozuna was definitely worth the visit! The teriyaki was fantastic and the curry delicious. Prices are reasonable and food staff very helpful and nice. Will definitely return, after all... so much teriyaki so little time.

I wish I could half stars, because Yokozuna is between a two and three for me. I was really excited to have a Teriyaki joint move into the Vista bench neighborhood. I like the style of the restaurant, it's always very clean, they have sidewalk seating, and they deliver - which is why I'm giving it three stars. The food is worth two stars. First of all, I'm surprised that there isn't a tofu option on the menu, leaving only a few meatless dishes for vegetarians and the like. Secondly, the food seems to get overcooked. Thirdly, the curry is icky. Aside from the food, the prices are very reasonable, if not great. I'll keep giving them a try - because they are new to the hood, within walking distance, and my husband will eat just about anything. Hope to see some tofu or additional vegetarian options on the menu! ---------------------------------- Yokozuna has added vegetarian options to their menu. (updated 1/29/2011)

while their food has been acceptable, my delivery was 40 minutes late arriving to my work last night- and of course it was cold by that time. i called the store to ask for a refund and the polite employee asked for my name and number, saying the manager would call me since i was requesting a refund. the manager decided it was not worth their time to call me, although i got a message from the same employee i spoke with the night before offering me $5 off my next meal. i doubt i will be using that $5 any time soon.

I returned to have fried food there again at the request of the owner, who told me that they have since altered their frying methods and gyoza recipe. The tonkatsu was actually alright this time, the pork not tasting like and having the consistency of a piece of rubber. The breading was fine and not overly intrusive, and the pork had some moistness to it. But the gyoza is still awful, and it's actually worse than I remember. The dough is still excessively fried and way too tough, and now the filling (which is still meat-only) had no taste to it. If any Yokozuna reps ever make it to L.A. and want to get their gyoza right, then head to a ramen place in downtown called Daikokuya and learn from one of the best gyoza places this country has to offer. But barring that, I'm not touching that stuff again.

Excellent prices. Amazing Teriyaki! I recommend the teriyaki chicken bowl with rice noodles substituted instead of white rice. The Bubble tea is an interesting and fun thing to try as well.

My husband and I shared the teriyaki beef and the gyoza. The teri beef was tasty, but they gave us a teensy tiny bit of meat and veggies on a huge bowl of rice. Though it wasn't expensive, I expected more for my money. The gyoza was pretty good (I was hoping for steamed instead of fried, but I should have asked), but nothing special. We'll probably go again when I'm craving Japanese and don't want to take the time to eat at a real restaurant, but I was disappointed. Edit: I went back recently and ordered a teri steak and chicken combo. It was great. The meat was perfectly cooked and there was plenty of it. So, perhaps I had a bad experience on my first visit. I'm giving Yokozuna one more star because nom.

pretty decent spot for teriyaki, (if thats your thing). good quality meat and tasty sauces. i want to try the katsu and the noodle dishes. it wont be a culinary masterpiece though, most of the meals here, aren't paticularly hard to cook, but i am a bachelor so i dont cook in the first place :). and i could see myself coming back when i have a hankering for some Japanese food. bubble tea is meh. skipping a bubble tea, you are looking at around 10 dollars a meal, maybe a dollar or two too expensive, otherwise it would be a solid 4.

For a fast food teriyaki place, its not half bad. Have only had the chicken here and the only real down side I can note is that on a couple occasions, the rice was over cooked. But...for a quick fix, this is an acceptable option

Yokozuna means "champion sumo wrestler". This place is consistently a C to C-. We have been here several times and have not been too impressed. Just kept coming back hoping they would work out the kinks of being a new business. Also hoping they could match the quality and price of the Mashita chain in Portland, OR. Nothing doing! The restaurant was started by a relative (by marriage) of Shige, owner of the best (IMHO) Japanese restaurant in Boise. I wished her all the success in the world, but I just don't wind up satisfied and wanting to come back after eating at Yokozuna. No need to go into specifics about the menu items, they are all C to C- like I said before.

9 times of of 10 I get the Katsu Curry or the Beef Ribs. The flavor is better than I expected from a fast food resturant. The Japaneese curry is very mild and I like the use of Daikon. The tonkatsu can be a little dry but I think they can really kick it up a notch if they offered Tonkatsu sauce. I have to agree with some of the previous reviews and say the Gyoza's very generic. If you quick Fast food Japaneese fix this s really the only place in town.

The boba is fantastic. Quite a few flavors, and the boba itself is perfectly cooked. The food is what knocks it down to three stars from four or five for me. It was not bad by any means, but it's not really good either. Great if youre hungry and you happen to be getting some boba, but i wouldnt go out of my way to eat here. It was really clean, which is always nice as well.

Excellent place for a quick bite for lunch. I haven't eaten at too many Japanese restaurants so I guess I don't really know what to compare it against?
