The wine menu needs a lot of work but the experience was great. My server, Tim was very attentive and friendly. The meat could use some seasoning. Overall experience was fantastic.

This is a unique attraction for Boise. There used to be another more authentic Brazilian place downtown, but there was some scandal and it went out. Its a little wild in here....we also save for special occasions, but some of the meat is really fantastic (and I'm the wife of a competition BBQ guy, so these different flavors really appeal to me). I did pass on the hearts.. The soup (Lobster) is pretty good, one of my friend's favorites. I agree with the statement that Boise is lucky to have it. Not a lot of selection here that is family friendly AND quality food. I enjoy the salad bar quite a bit....its not Sizzler, Golden Corral or a pizza joint. Good stuff. And yeah, its busy...cuz its Boise. :D

We are visiting Idaho for the first time on a short vacation. We're staying right next to Tucanos, so decided to give them a try. After first reading the reviews on Yelp, we were somewhat apprehensive, but it was convenient, and the place looked nice enough. We made reservations, which were recommended, and went on a Thursday night at 6:30PM. There were still tables available at that time, so there was no wait to be seated. The greeters were courteous and greeted us very graciously. They were interested in what brought us there, and we chatted a bit about being from California. So things got off to a good start from the very beginning. The waiter came quickly and made sure we again felt welcomed and understood how the whole Brazilian thing works. Throughout the evening he came often enough as needed to make sure we had drink refills, etc. We felt well attended to. I'd give it a five star rating for what this restaurant is. We visited the salad bar, which we found to be plentiful, well presented, clean, and with a good bit of variety. I've hit better salad bars before, but a salad bar is presumably not why you are going to a Brazilian restaurant. So, we found the salad bar was plenty good for our purposes. I would give it a five star rating for what it is where it is. What you typically expect from a Brazilian restaurant is a good selection of good meats. As long as we gave the signal (green), the meat servers came frequently with a good selection of meats. Some here have complained about the baked pineapple being served like a meat, but we found it delicious and a good mix along with all the other items being served. So, I just don't get the complaint. We were probably offered about eight or ten types of meat styles, and found all of them to be pretty good. We would give the meat offerings a four star rating. The meat serving service we would give a four star rating, as they tended to rush. Frankly, we were being served too much too quickly, and would recommend that Tucanos slow things down just a tad bit. It's like they've listened to those of you who complained about the meat servings being too slow, and have over corrected. The dinner was priced at $20 per person for the salad bar and meat servings, which we found an incredible value. So, value get's a five star. The environment is a bit noisy, but not unlike other restaurants of it's caliber. The service, as I said, was a bit rushed. While you were not forced to rush, everything around you was rushed. Tucanos is not attempting to be a trendy or even old-style five star restaurant. Dress style is casual, and there were whole families there, including children. So, don't go expecting elegance. or a nice romantic setting. You won't find it there. On the other hand, if you're looking for good food, with good service, at a great price, then Tucanos won't disappoint.

From top to bottom, this place is great! I just celebrated my birthday here with family & I loved every minute of it.the service was excellent; our server Tim was so niiiice and speedy. The salad fiesta was delicious as was the meat! If I lived in Idaho I would be here often. All around great atmosphere.

Reservation @ 5:30 for James. My girlfriend and I just had dinner for the first time at Tucanos. I was really struggling with the rating but finally went with a 4. Let me start off by saying it is a beautiful restaurant. The service was top notch, the waitress was super, and the meat servers were very fast. The two sides of salad at the salad festival bar was freaking AMAZING. The other side were the hot stuff is wasn't great but it didn't suck either. The meats were good, and out of 8-9 that we tried there were 2 that were above average. That was the sweet BBQ chicken and the rum butter pork.....the others were about average. But with that said our waitress was awesome and was very enjoyable. The pace of the place is very very fast.....it makes you feel like your at an auction and you have to eat fast, instead of taking your time to enjoy the experience. infact our Lil waitress if she talked any faster she might have sprained her tongue....lol. The wine was delicious, the smoothie was fantastic, and the desert was excellent....I would of said orgasmic but that would be to crazy, I know right. The apple cobbler, BEST I have ever had. And I think mine was called a butter rum cake w/ mango sorbet.......YUM! Bottom line I and my girlfriend were full up to our eye balls when we walked out and we will probly go back again and this time slow the pace down, no matter how fast paced it seems.

The food is okay. The service and staff are great. The noise is way too loud, especially when everybody has a birthday. Our waiter explained "this is not 'TGI Fridays." But it is without the flair. Other reviewers are correct: don't fill up on the salad, but if you do get the spring mix because iceberg lettuce is nothing about green leafy. Te meat is tastey. Get the pineapple ans skewered veggies to balance out. I recommend the lime juice, too. All in all, good but the price is a bit much, but with all you can eat, who could complain.

Had a great dinner tonight. Had bacon wrapped scallops. They took a little while to get there, but were worth the wait. Had some limonade that was great too.

I really wasn't sure what to expect when I was treated to dinner here. When I first walked in, the place was buzzing with business with people waiting their turn to eat. Once we were seated, I had the weird feeling I was in a touristy restaurant in the middle of Disneyland. The place is loud and has a fast pace feel about it. The waitress explained their menu, and we were all set to give the Tucanos Famous Churrasco a try. Off we went to partake of the salad bar. Knowing this was an 'all you can eat' experience, I made sure to go gentle at the salad bar. Everything on the Salad bar I had tasted great and was fresh. The only so-so item I had was the alfredo pasta. As we neared the end of our salad, we turned over our Red Light-Green Light indicator to green for them to begin serving us a variety of meat and fish choices. I have to say, ALL the meat I ate tasted excellent, though I have to admit I am wondering what exactly is 'Brazilian' about this place and the food they served. I would highly recommend making reservations to eat here. We got here at 5 PM on a Saturday night and our wait was at least 35 minutes. When we left, there were MANY people waiting their turn. Very busy, high paced atmospere, but it was a unique experience to finally eat here. Had to re-edit this to add one last thing. Have the Brazilian Lemonade. VERY tasty and very filling

Well after my last visit to this restaurant (about a year ago) my wife and I have decided to give it a second chance. I have to say that on Monday night this place is still busy. This was nice to see. We were sat quickly and the customer service was quick. The first thing we were impressed with was how fast and friendly the customer service was. Our waitress was quick to give us information about the menu and get us anything that we requested. She was very quick to our table even when I wasn't looking for her. It was a bit annoying at first but I didn't mind after my first visit. Plus she was doing a great job. So in the end the waitress gets a 5 star rating. The one guy that kept serving us meat well, he needs more work. He gets a three star because he wasn't as motivated and friendly as our waitress. We asked for a certain meat to be cooked at a certain temperature and he stated that there wasn't any at that temp. We told our waitress about the meat guy and she made sure that we received our request ASAP. It was very impressive because said "oh really, your getting that meat the way you like it." And we did. As for the food, well it got better. I have to say that the top sirloin is amazing and the beef tender was great. 5 star for those meats. The salmon was amazing and the fried mango fish was good. They get 4 stars. The filet wrapped in bacon was horrible. To the point that I had to spit it out. It was almost like over cooked beef jerky. It tasted nothing like a filet but, I definitely got the taste of bacon. That gets a -5 stars. The other filets that are flavored with parmesan (1 star) and Teriyaki (4 stars) are ok but not for me. There is also a sweet and spicy chicken thigh that is salty as a salt lick. Another -5 star. I told our waitress about the chicken because she recommended it but she apologized and said it was one of her favorits because she likes salty. I was ok with that answer because she said it with a smile and some people do like things that salty. The beef brisket was tender but dry and chewy, it gets a 3 star. The sides table was better this time around. Lobster bisque is one of the first things you should have. It was creamy and a seafood delight. The only thing on the sides section that I would stay away from is the Mashed potatoes. It taste as if it was made from a box and it had cheddar cheese melted on top. This just made it worse for me and being in Idaho the mash potatoes should be fresh. Potatoes get 2 stars. The salad bar was great. We tried a couple of items and we couldn't find anything wrong...5 stars. So, in this second review I give Tucanos a 3 star overall because they still need some improvements on the meat quality and taste but they have made some great improvements in their overall customer service and food. For the price, I would give Tucanos another try but I will wait a while before I go back just to give them time to make some more improvements. I can't wait to see what it will taste like the next time around. Good job Tucanos, keep it up

My first time with Braz BBQ. Interesting. This place is LOUD, and busy! Long wait for seating. And LOUD while you wait (even outside it gets a bit noisy due to the close prox. to the fwy). At first, I thought...hmmmm...what's the attraction here? Novelty? Salad bar is varied, but nothing to write home about. Meat is pretty good, a tad on the salty side for a few selections, but otherwise, pretty good...and lots of it! Overall, it was an interesting dining experience, but one I might not repeat there. it has piqued my interest in Brazilian BBQ however and I will be trying other restaurants.

Mehh, it's the experience you are paying for. I have had better Brazilian steakhouse experience. Technically, mini drumsticks on a big skewer doesn't make it Brazilian. However, I got this tip from zookeepers who swore that this was the best thing in Boise for steakhouse. Okay, after I taste some true slices of meat. Yes, that was really good. Then, the server came out with these tiny chicken hearts and brisket which I think is a stretch. Salad bar was okay but you are not here to fill up on it. The Brazilian lemonade is actually quite good and would recommend it- free refills and you can add a fruit juice too (mango, passion fruit, guava, etc). Go with friends and get a few laughs out of try new stuff. I save this place for special events. In Philadelphia, go to a true one and not this family friendly American version of it in Boise.

We live close-by and have dined at Tucano's a number of times since they opened. (12-15?) Lots of detailed reviews here, so I'll just do highlights. ** VERY loud ... yeah, it's been covered here, but it is truly awful. ** Salad bar ... hit and miss. Some dishes good, some gag-worthy. Soups very salty. ** Drinks ... watery and expensive. ** Grill .. cheap cuts of meat, generally; EXCEEDINGLY SALTY! Best? grilled pineapple or mixed veggies(!), not the meat choices. ** Service .. hate to say it, but not very good. More bad than good. My DH and I both have high blood pressure and have made the decision not to dine here any more, due to the salt. We've asked for no seasoning, but didn't get it that way, so I guess it's not do-able for them. So many of they wait-staff have a "don't give a damn" attitude -- which has also influenced our decision not to return. It's a shame, because we love the concept and some of the dishes. But not worth the aggravation. :(

I've giving this ONE STAR because I ordered a special fillet minion order and the completely forgot. Honestly they were supposed to bring it and the waitress said "it will be right out" "it's almost done" "just one more minute" Well after 30 minutes of waiting, I finally had a manager walk over and ask how things were. My two dining companions had gorged themselves on meat brought fast to the table. I was still waiting on my fillet!!! Once I told him that he said 'It will be right out" ...I've heard that before. So I left. They still made me pay for my salad bar, gave me some stupid excuse. Just horrible customer service. HORRIBLE. Do NOT go to this place. It's loud, obnoxious, over - rated, and not worth it.

  • Rhiannon M.

I don't know what other people are so cranky about. Yes, this place is loud. That's why it says Noise Level = Very Loud up there. Anyway, I gave this place a try on a business trip so I sat at the bar. Turns out you can only do the "Salad Festival" (cheesy, much?) which was perfect because that's all I wanted. For $14 you get unlimited trips to the salad bar which has a lot of prepared salads plus several hot dishes like beans and rice and pasta (not sure what that was doing there but I'm sure it makes some people happy). I was impressed with the quality and I liked everything I tried. And as for the people that say it's kind of expensive, they need to get out of Boise once in a while. The Brazilian Steakhouse in my hometown is $55 for dinner and, in my opinion, is only very slightly better. All in all, though I can't comment on the quality or value of the main attraction which is the roaming meat, I'd recommend this place. Enjoy!

This place is crazy! We had a great time though. DO NOT EAT MUCH SALAD. This is a protein rich meal and the salad really gets in the way It was a little expensive but not too bad for an all you can eat foodstraviganza! Our waiter Sebastian was awesome as well and very attentive to our entire family. We were the last family there and didn't even know it. Most places make sure you know you are there past closing but not here. The food was terrific. You have to try the chicken hearts I know sounds awful but they were delectable. My kids even liked them. You must also try the lemonade. We probably didn't need to order the extra shrimp skewers but, what the heck they were good. Finally we ordered desert not to eat there but to eat in our room later. WOW they were really fabulous as well. I really loved the cheesecake. If you have the chance this is a great place to go. But bring your appetite you will need every bit of it!

I would have given this place 5 stars in the past, but lately both the food and service quality have gone downhill. the last few times we have been there the food was overcooked, sometimes rock hard. The sald bar is always pretty good, and I have gotten good customer service on all of my visits.

To: Danger M (at the bottom) - you can't really help it if it's someone's birthday so the fact that you're annoyed by birthday's there is a pointless anoyance. OTHERWISE: This place is awesome! The food they bring you is always hot and fresh and DELICIOUS. I LOVE THIS PLACE! I had all I could eat for $12 during lunch. They have a brown sugar glazed pineapple that they bring around to you and it's amazing. The way they serve their food and the atmosphere is so much fun. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR A FUN NIGHT OUT!

Alright if you want to get some of the best grub in all of Boise then pack up the family station wagon and get on down to Tucanos!!! Looking for a great salad bar with all the fixins??? Check they have that here! Looking for a large variety of meats??? Bingo it's here also!! Finally you want the best glazed pineapple on the western hemisphere?? I think you already know the answer that.... Yes it is only found at Tucanos! Now I know what your thinking? How could a restaurant in good ole Boise Idaho have such great food? Blam!! It just happens. If you plan on visiting on a weekend night though make sure you have reservations. It is always picked to the ceiling with people waiting for their chance to get in on the spectacular food!!

I have kind of mixed feelings about this place. On the one hand: meat! In great variety and copious quantity! On the other: it's sort of a zoo, and one invariably wobbles out feeling overstuffed and wondering if one has contracted a rhinovirus from the throngs of small children sneezing in the vicinity of the salad bar. This would be a good place to go if your in-laws are visiting and you don't want to, you know, get stuck with awkward silences. It would also be a good re-feed venue for after a marathon. Otherwise, I think I'd prefer someplace a bit less raucous.

We went on a Saturday afternoon (1 pm) and were seated immediately. The wait staff was amazing, very friendly and polite with great attention to detail. This was not my first visit to a churrascaria so I knew what to expect. Everything was fine. The meat was good, the salad bar was good as well - just not as good as I've had before. It was better than Ipanema in Seattle but not as good as Rodizio Grill in Salt Lake. However, it was MUCH better priced than both. I guess there are some things you give up for a lower price. It's as if the meat was of a lesser cut quality. But I'm not meat expert so I can't be sure. It just seemed a bit...I don't know...off.

Mediocre food - meat was really salty; salad bar had a great selection, but most was tasteless; service was decent. Noise level - definitely quite loud. Desserts were huge and not bad - everyone in our party was pretty happy with that. At the end of the meal, they brought us an electronic survey to do. The SECOND we indicated that we hadn't been thrilled with the meat, the manager swooped down on us to ask why we'd said that. She wasn't hostile, but we weren't expecting to be confronted, and it was really awkward.

People's complaints are off base, ,,,,in L.A. You can pay $35 bucks a head at a place like this. Boise lucky to have it. Our family with 6&8 year old love this place.

this place sucks, a lot of bad things dont necessarily equate to something good. Bad things: -its everybody's fricking birthday, and their drum/brazilian song gets annoying by about the 3rd time you hear it. we heard it easily a dozen times. -all the meat products are okay, but nothing that makes me want to come back. -decent drink menu, but anything made at the bar is beyond weak sauce alcohol wise. -$35 for a drink/dessert/food hit or miss: -the buffet style salad bar and random assortments of items. Its okay, but nothing is exactly high quality, its just not low quality either. final verdict: i could see this place as being a good answer to, say, spending a vacation in a muslim or hindi traditional region were you dont eat meat at all. otherwise, save your money.

Alright - I decided to do and update on my experience here one more time. I gave this place another shot because I got a free meal (birthday club) because it was my birthday month. I was actually pleased this time. The wait wasn't long at all. ( I suggest you go there during the week day) and the food was made really well. The price is decent for the amount of food you can eat. You get a salad bar plus variety of meat for a little over $20+ during dinner time. Everything was cooked to perfection and everything was tasty. The waiters were really nice and entertaining this time around - They laughed , talked to the guests, and they always notice when we wanted more. One of the waiters asked us if we were enjoying our food and we told him that the first time wasn't so great (during grand opening week) .. we told him that - it ruined our experience caused of the wait. BUT he insisted that he would take good care of us and he will come to us as soon as he can. THAT THERE - really made everything better. FOOD: 4/5 SERVICE : 5/5 WAIT : NOT EVEN A MIN. [ WEEKDAYS ONLY ] ATMOSPHERE : IT GETS LOUD. OH! The grilled pineapple - or whatever it is - was sooooo goood! =]

My bf and I went here and we loved it! The Brazilian drinks (non-alcoholic) are delicious! They have flavors from pineapple, passionfruit, mango to guava. What I like about it is refills are free and so you can try any flavor that they have for these Brazilian drinks. The Salad Bar, they have a wide variety of things as well as fruit, and additional dishes like pasta, mashed potatoes, soup, cheesepuffs etc. The meat that comes around is delicious! Roasted vegetables were my favorite as well as the steak. They have a mango flavored fried fish which was a little too sweet for me. If you're bacon lovers then maybe you'll love the turkey wrapped in bacon. You have to try to try the chicken hearts too, but when you do don't think of them being chicken hearts but something else to your liking. The service that we got was fantastic! The waiter was nice and friendly, and always made sure that we had refills and asked how our meals were tasting. If you stay for the dessert, make sure you try the Snickers cheesecake. My favorite! =]

This place just keeps getting worse the first couple time i came here i loved it .but the last couple of times have not been that great. The grilled pineapple is still really good but all the other meats have dropped off. For as much as this place cost and from my last few expiernces i wont be back.

One of the worst restaurants I've been to in a long time. Upon entering we were greeted by a hostess who never smiled (even while waiting 20 min for a table I never saw her smile at any patron). We sat down to wait next to a gentleman chewing gum, who I assumed was waiting for a table, until 5 min later he got up and proceeded to greet people entering the restaurant. We were then shown to our table which seated 2 (despite 3 in our party) requiring us to turn the table sideways and squeeze together. The table next to us was seated 5 min later but was greeted first by the server. After finally ordering, we waited (famished) while multiple meat servers passed by our table before one finally came to serve us. The premium Capharina's we ordered were weak and small. All of the beef served was marginal. The best items were the pineapple and the chicken wings. The salad bar was average but due to the crowded restaurant and constant interruption by the staff to fill the 1/2 empty bowls at the salad bar it took over 15 min to fill my plate. To top it off I even spotted one server putting on chapstick while taking someone's order a few tables over. It's been a while since I've been to a restaurant where I can honestly say I will be happy to never go back

I would recommend everyone trying Tucanos at least once. I have been a couple of times and the food is pretty good. For the price (the lunch price isn't too bad though) I would rather just go get a good steak somewhere but you do get a huge variety and since it's all you can eat so you obviously won't go hungry. The staff is also very prompt and friendly. They do have some really good desserts but the problem is how often to you order dessert after an all you can eat buffet? They also have a club you can sign up for free where you get a free meal during the month of your birthday.

Cheapest Brazilian Steakhouse I've EVER been to..... but that's the only thing favorable I have to say about them. I've been to Brazilian steakhouses in big and small cities all across the country. This is probably the worst. To start the review, I went on a Friday night about 8 pm. The wait was about 20 minute, no big deal, I waited in the bar and had a cocktail. I got a shot-measured drink for $8 .. yikes, not off to a good start. I was seated, where they came by and explained how things work. Naturally I first hit up the salad bar. Average. The bar was a bit nasty, I assume because everyone and their mother was there with their 10 kids making a mess. It's a bit different than most. You have ONE meat server, so the same server brings a meat (they only have the basics, far lacking compared to other Brazilian Steakhouses). So you sit there, he comes, offers up a piece, disappears for 10 minutes then comes with another kind. Most places have 30 people, each with their own meat, roaming around the restaurant offering it as they pass. Not this place. VERY inefficient, and it's no wonder why people hang out for hours. I thought they were just grazing, but when you only get one cube of steak every 10 minutes, it's a process. Then they mix in grilled pineapple? What a waste of coming by. Everyone else puts that on the salad bar. It was an odd experience. Almost like chuck-e-cheese meets outback... bizarre. The weirdest part of the whole experience was the end... they send a "manager" by with a dessert tray, in which all of the desserts are mad of plastic\wax. I haven't seen this since 1990 at Red Lobster (how's that for benchmark?). They really pour on the hard-sell trying to get you to buy a dessert. I'm not a big fan of desserts, so I just wanted to get the heck out of there. While it's the only Brazilian steakhouse in boise, I guess that's what keeps them in business, but when I'm in Boise I'll be steering far away from the place, as it's just not good. They need to re-work their entire business model. Raise prices so you're not packed with screaming kids, you'll have less customers but they'll be the caliber a nice Brazilian steakhouse would normally appeal to. Re-work the serving method. Rework- the hard-sell dessert tray (send it back to 1990), and then maybe I'll give it another shot. Until than, PASS.

Food was fine. Service pretty good. Prices okay to overpriced for what you get. Selection okay. you gotta go at least once! Also they give you free meal on your birthday if your in their club. Nice creme brulee. Brazillian lemonades good, too sugary and expensive.

I actually had a great time but I was there for a birthday party of a friend that had been arranged prior to me showing up. I saw the wait that other people had and could only feel sympathetic for them. While I thought the food was delicious I didn't find it to be overly "Brazilian." I thought the salad bar was more than generous but it needed to be for the price you pay. My server did a great job but it is strange there because you feel as though you should tip the skewer guys before you tip your server because in reality they are just cocktailing and preparing checks. I can see the downside to this restaurant, which is why I gave it 3 stars. Long waits, expensive not expansive menu choices, and service appears to lack in an overall sense due to the volume Tucanos does. Like I said in the beginning I enjoyed myself. P.S. Make sure you are hungry and are willing to spend $20/person on your dinner otherwise you will feel robbed.

My wife and I were big fans of Peter Schott's Rodizio Grill when it was open in the Idanha building downtown, so I was excited to see another Brazilian grill in Boise. Unfortunately, Tucano's falls far short of the mark set by Mr. Schott. The building is gorgeous inside and out with tall ceilings, festive colors, and beautiful decorations. The 'Salad Festival', included with the $20 all-you-can eat entree price, is beautifully presented but contains very little Brazilian faire (contrast this to Rodizio, which had probably a dozen real Brazilian side dishes that varied from night to night). The big disappointment, however, was the meat, which was for the most part bland and resembled (in flavor at least) something that came out of a crock pot. None of it had any of the carmelization (or Maillard reaction, for you foodies) you'd expect from grilled or fire-roasted meats. Our shrimp skewer, which cost $6.95 in addition to the regular entree price, tasted like the shrimp had been boiled in butter with a hint of garlic added (honestly, I've had much better from the frozen food section at Albertsons). Even the vegetables were undercooked and had no evidence of any grilling or roasting. The Fraldinha (beef tenderloin) was the only thing that came close what I had expected. There were a couple of standout items. The Caipirinah, a traditional Brazilian party drink made with sugarcane liquor and lime, and the Brazilian lemonade, a non-alcoholic drink made from lime juice, sugar, and condensed milk, were both deliciously different. One other comment: this place is *loud*, and it's not helped at all by the frequent birthday 'celebrations' that include about a dozen members of the staff banging drums, tambourines, and rattles, and singing to the guests. As one lady commented as she was leaving, 'when I pay this kind of money, I expect something peaceful. If I want loud, I'll bring my kids.' Bottom line, for the price ($77 for two of us with the optional shrimp skewer, 2 alcoholic drinks and one Brazilian lemonade, and tip) and the wait (1 1/2 hours), you'd be better off going elsewhere.

I went to Tocanos for dinner with a colleague. I have been to Brazilian restaurants before and am familiar with the Churrascaria concept. We had high expectations. The food was good, but it was not my favorite Brazilian restaurant. They had many items that were not Brazilian (sushi and hot wings). It seemed more like an all you can eat restaurant with Brazilian flair rather than a true Brazilian restaurant. We went at 6:00 on a Wednesday night and were seated immediately. I can see that it would be busy on the weekends. The staff was courteous and attentive. There were a lot of birthdays, and the birthday drum did get annoying after a while. The food was good. The pineapple was absolutely delicious - best I have ever had. The meats were good. The pork loin was the best I have had at a Brazilian restaurant. I skipped the chicken hearts. The "Salad Festival" was OK but I wasn't overly impressed with it. It did have some exotic items, but I did not think it was up to the salad bar section at other Brazilian restaurants I have been to. The desserts looked delicious, but we were too full to try them. I think that the price is a good value for what you get. I would go again, and would recommend it to people in the area.

Do you like heart attacks? Congestive heart failure? this is the place. Awesome amounts of meat. I think I tried everything once and was pretty full. The problem is that the meat isn't very good however. I noticed most of the other complaints in other reviews were about the noise, so so bbq, and long waits which are all symptoms of it being too busy and staff not managing the flow well enough. Basically if you wait until the hype dies down a little bit, then it will be less noisy, less chaotic and probably better bbq. I say better bbq because I noticed that the grilling is basically a open-sided rotisserie with the skewers stuck into the wheel so I can imagine if it's really busy then they probably have too much food to grill and not enough time which translates to not good bbq as there isn't enough time to brown/carmelize the food. As it is new right now so it is everyone's birthday as they will get the whole wait stuff come out and sing their version of Happy Birthday "Brazilian" style which consists of banging drums. It gets kinda tired after the 15th time during the meal. By Boise standards, it is fairly pricey. the basic BBQ is $20/person but it is all you can eat plus the salad bar.

Great atmosphere, friendly waiters, good food, fresh salad bar... what's not to like!? The grilled pineapple is super yummy too :)

This was fun, but super spendy given that its basically a glorified buffet and very very noisy. We actually didn't have much of a wait, but we went at about 4:30 on Saturday night and had about a 10-15 minute wait. I really have nothing brazilian to compare this to, but it didn't seem particularly unique. I enjoyed the teriyaki sirloin, my son liked the tritip sirloin, and my husband like the filet mignon. The red/yellow/green is novel and they paid attention to it. I wish more restaurants had a way to signal your waitress you needed something:) I liked that they brought extra drinks in a carafe. At the salad bar, try the antipasti (fresh mozzarella balls and prosciutto, salami and other cheese), with the melon, fresh fruit, and try the cheese bread balls (kind of like baked gnocchi) and fried bananas. My son tried the quail eggs but didnt' care for them :) The oriental salad was also pretty good. At the price we paid, we could have had a much more peaceful elegant meal somewhere else, but once in a while this would be fun.

Two words describe how you feel after eating here: meat coma. This is a buffet place with skewers of Brazilian style meat that are rotated to your table by the servers wandering the floor with them. The buffet has enough non-meat items to keep vegetarians happy (for a discounted price). Bring a heavy appetite, you will leave stuffed. The place is clean and the servers practically fawn on the customers. This is a good place for a date night or eating out with friends.

The food was amazing....the patio however was not! Flies were horrible, they need to do something about it.

I went online a few days ago after reading other YELPERS and signed up for the birthday club.To my surprise a card was in the mail for me to use today. My birthday! There were 3 of us trying out the churrasco and salad festival for the 1st time. Prices for lunch are $12.99 for all u can eat. I had some tropical fruit juice drink and my friends had a soda and brazlian lemonade that both came with an extra carafe I started with fresh spinach buffalo mozzarella tomatoes and my friends ate a variety sushi, shrimp, rolls, potato, salad and soup. None of which seemed very Brazilian. They did and awesome job with the grilled veggies and variety of meats our server talked so fast we could barely catch what she was saying.including her name. The main waitress was Ashley who explained how their system works. All the meats were juicy and flavorful the sirloin was our fav followed by the pork.(Not sure how hot wings came into play hmmm!) I also tried the collard greens which were good and black beans which were good but not great.kept on wondering about the grilled pinneapple which we saw on the gill and had heard was so great but it was never mentioned or offered to us. Maybe they were getting it for dinner? We were there at 1:20pm I ordered cream brulee for dessert which was yummy and the 3 of us shared. I did not care for their fried bananas at all and wish they would have had an expresso to end the meal with. Our cloth napkins were taken before we finnished which was not too nice and we had to ask a manager for more for this I give them 3.5 stars good not very good! I may go back once more and try it again sometime.our bill approx $58 before tip and birthday card credit .

I've had good, average, and poor experiences here. Can be spendy, buffet is good.

  • Todd P.

Very average. The staff is trying and were acceptable, but not outstanding this was far below other Brazilian steakhouses I have visited. We waited for ten minutes with empty plates for servers to walk by. Small salad bar. They were reluctant and put off if you requested more than the ounce of meat the servers were willing to provide.

Worth going once. Maybe twice. What ever you do dont go here for lunch. I swear they served meat from the night before. I visit a place a few times before writing a review. The first time I was giving it 5 stars the second time I was bewildered as to why I could never get my server to bring my favorite cut of meat that I requested when I sat down. I finally got the parmesan steak at the very end after I had to complain but i was already full by that time. Annoying. The next time I went was at lunch and there was NOTHING including the service that was good. I had taken a friend from out of town here at lunch and she was so disappointed she couldn't believe I ever recommended the place. Yes it was that bad and when I dared said something about it the host seem to agree and say she was sorry but didnt bother to do anything about it. No matter. I wont be back anyway even if I had a coupon or a free dinner.

Don't get me wrong. Tucanos is a gret place. The problem for me was that I'm spoiled by restaurants like Fogo De Chao. Tucanos just can't compare with the king of all Churrasco(Fogo de Chao). If you're expecting authentic Brazilian churrasco, you won't be disappointed. They have the chicken hearts and turkey breast wrapped in bacon. It's not exactly like a churrasco restaurant in Brazil. I've never had fried fish in sugar sauce in Brazil. I've also never had Buffalo wings in an authentic churrasco. The Pao de Queijo is OK. I'm used to bigger rolls. The ones at Tucanos are slightly bigger than a marble. The salad bar is huge and fresh. Stay away from the "authentic Brazilian sushi" rolls.(bleahh!) You'll find linguica and pork loin at night (not served for lunch). The pork loin(lombo) was my favorite. My biggest beef with this restaurant is that they are closed on Sundays. I guess that's the Utah influence...

I went to Tucanos for the first time this week. I ordered the salad festival, as I am a strict vegetarian. Probably not THE best place to go if you're not a meat eater. Nevertheless, my boyfriend enjoyed himself with the unlimited amount of meat he got with his birthday card. Although the salad bar had variety and was seemingly fresh, I was stunned to taste meat products such as sausage in the black beans. I did notice that the cold pasta dishes did specify that seafood was in the mix so I was surprised why the black beans weren't noted as well. I MAY go back, but then again I don't eat much and I am a vegetarian so I felt like it was more expensive than anything else since I didn't fully take advantage of all that was offered.

Tucanos is a great place to eat. Is it loud? Yes. It's a Brazilian place. Having lived down there I can tell you that people there are boisterous so the noise never bothers me as I expect it. If you want a quieter meal there you need to go on a Saturday afternoon. It's a lot cheaper and there aren't as many people around. Otherwise be prepared for it to be loud. This is also a place that requires you to exercise some degree of self control. You could easily eat yourself to death. The meat comes to you in the typical rodizio-style churrascaria fashion. When I was there I tried everything that came around. I especially enjoyed the Picanha, the Peru, chicken hearts, and the glazed pineapple. On top of that they offer a buffet that includes a number of must haves such as the Brazilian style black beans and rice and the cheese bread. You really can't go wrong at Tucanos. The food is good and plentiful. The meat servers are knowledgeable and entertaining. The one negative is the wait and how that is managed. That really needs to be addressed. However, overall a very good experience and a place I will continue to visit. Just pace yourself and you won't have to spend the rest of the day napping.

Lots of low quality meat plus a buffet. Wait staff spent most of the time trying to upsell us on more crappy food. Made us sick. Stay away, it is horrible.

The guys in my family love this place. I should just get the salad bar, because I always over eat and the salad bar has a TON of choices. Good service, but it's been crowded both times we've visited. Reservations recommended so you don't have to wait. The free dinner (with purchase of another) for your birthday is awesome.

I loved this restaurant. The food was wonderful and varied, and I am not a big meat-eater. Not a good place for conversation, (It is real loud, and lots of interruptions as the waiters bring you ever more tasty grilled selections) but it is a great location for a celebration.

Ok, it's not the worst Brazillian grill I've ever been too. MY server was a very courteous, contiuos, friendly guy. Always asking if we were doing ok, and bringing us whatever we wanted. He would get 5 stars from me for sure. The selection in the salad bar area was worth 3 to 4 stars in my mind, but was a salad bar just the same. The soups offered were eehhhhh. Not very good. Take that down a star. The meat selection was....well, about a 3 star. While most of the meat that they gave was really good, they gave you a very small portion. Now most people wouldn't ask for more so they'd be all polite or something, but come on. You see a 6'3" dude at around 235lb sitting there and you give them a half dollar size (and about as thin too) piece of meat. There goes your stars baby. And also you try to pass off pinneaple as a meat. Nope, you're getting 2 stars. My waiter was the best thing here. Sounds kinna gay, don't it? Well...Tucanos you could do better. Probably my last try at these Brazillian grill places. The novelty is gone. :(

Went to Tucanos with my husband tonight for 2 for 1 Tuesdays. I have been here before and it was superior. However, tonight they were NOT on top of their game. The food that is supposed to be hot on the salad bar was cold (i.e. mashed potatoes and collard greens), When I asked about getting some potatoes that were warm on the bar, I was told it would be another 20-30 minutes! The meat was luke warm coming to the tables and slow in coming. The meat that seemed to be circulated the fastest was the cheaper cuts of meat and were tough and bland. All of the service was extraordinarily slow tonght and left a lot of be desired. Then my bill came and it was 'suggested' that I leave a minimum of $10.50 tip...I THINK NOT! I will return again, because I know their usual service, but was not happy with this place tonight.

Tucanos is awesome! I lived in Brasil for a couple years and while this isn't 100% authentic it's a great alternative! I love the black and pinto beans and it seems like it's my luck that when I go in one or the other isn't available which is a huge reason I go. Would live to see coxinhas on the salad bar! My birthday is next month and I can't wait to use my free meal!

Well it's not even fair, I'm Brazilian and I know what an authentic Brazilian food taste like! 1. We Brazilians don't eat BBQ sauce 2. Our beans have more seasoning 3. Our stroganoff is made with Nestle Table cream 4. Our Passion Fruit mousse is made with condensed milk and table cream, NOT ice-cream 5. We hate BBQ sauce on our meat 6. Shredded beef is only in our bread as a sub 7. Their chicken heart is awful

Never been to Tucano's? Here's what to expect for all my friends who are wondering if it's worth that high price tag. Today I made my return as promised but this time to dine in for lunch, I have heard much from others who complain quality is not as good at lunch time. So I bet your thinking why and how could you give this place 2 STARS?? Let's try finding a hair while biting in to your turkey wrapped with bacon! (Pictured on my plate) **Service- We had a great server and she made sure we lacked nothing, the meat servers also were pretty prompt. Given maybe 8 tables were in for lunch the speed between them could have been faster. **Food- ** Salad bar- was Meh the main reason being my friend and I each got a roll, from the same batch the lady set down he got a hot one and mine was cold completely, how does that happen? AGAIN as my last visit items were Luke warm and lacking flavor. I.E. alfraedo sauce, lobster bisque, next time I come in I'm gonna temp the food. ** MEATS- I enjoyed quite a few meats that were usual quality as the top sirloin, turkey, garlic sirloin, white fish, etc. Where the quality dropped was with the parm chicken, (sadly it was over cooked and dry) The hanger steak was way to salty for both my friend and I. This never used to be a problem, WHAT DID NOT slip in quality is the grilled pineapple. Cleanliness- THIS IS WHERE I had the biggest problems, keep in mind we went at lunch literally 1130. I noticed walking to our table behind the hostess the floor was sticky, I found that to be very odd. During our experience a slice of pineapple was dropped from a server and workers just walked past it as it sat on the floor. I also observed tables being cleaned and the condiment bottles, cues, shakers, not being cleaned AGAIN. If you followed my first review this was one of my major complaints and it's STILL not fixed.

I was so disappointed with my experience here. I brought my partner here for appetizers and drinks for his birthday. I ordered a double whiskey sour and would be surprised if there was even 1 shot in it. We also ordered the "taste of Brazil " appetizer which was supposed to be a "variety of Brazilian tapas" so we were very surprised when a plate arrived with a single croquette and a bowl of ketchup. When we asked the bartender she couldn't tell us anything about the dish but insisted our order was correct. While the food was good the staff was not at all knowledgeable and made no effort to rectify any of our issues.

In the words of Anthony bourdain, Adam richman, or any other food show host that's eats really good food, "mmmm....that's good". That's what can be said about Tucanos food. It is good. They bring all entree meats to you so you get to try the whole menu. I highly recommend this place. Staff n service is friendly too.

WOW so much food and the only way for it to stop flying on my plate is a wooden cue. Everything was so good. I like that I can decide what I want on my plate just like a buffet but I don't have to get up. My favorite was the bacon rapped turkey and I know that does not sound so Brazilian. Service was very good and prompt. Also any business that donates to veteran events like this one has are a 5 star in my book! I appreciate any businesses who supports and continues to support our veterans who have served our country. I would recommend this place and will keep returning.

I love Tucanos! The food is awesome. The service is almost always great. The only reason I say almost is because they can get extremely busy and so the service can get a little slow. That's why I recommend going at the non busy hours. They truly have the best salad bar in town. So many things to choose from. It's crazy cool, they have sushi, shrimp, quail eggs, fried bananas, lobster bisque, hearts of palm, marinated mushrooms and mozzarella balls. That's just a few of the awesome things they have. It's a pretty sweet set up,but be forewarned don't fill up on the salad. It's tempting because of all the choice's,but save room. They have lots of meats to choose from. I recommend the top sirloin, teriyaki beef, garlic Parmesan beef, bacon wrapped filet, bacon wrapped turkey, buttered pork and the pineapple. If it's your first time,it's good to try a little bit of everything, that way you can decide on what you like. The bacon wrapped filet, buttered pork and teriyaki beef are not on the lunch menu. It's not cheap, but it's really good food. I totally recommend this place.

Went here with my bro in-law not too long ago. I wasn't super-impressed, but this kind of place might just not be my style. My expectations were: lame, obligatory salad bar; awesome meats brought to you on swords. The reality: the salad bar was more awesome than anticipated, the passed meats were underwhelming. It could have just been the night I went, but no chicken hearts really disappointed me. There was also no seafood, just beef, pork and chicken. The meat was way, way, waaaaaaaay too salty. The frenzied pace and odd smiles (due to the stress and fast pace) from the servers kind of stressed me out a bit. At least with this experience, I don't think it was worth the money. However, Idaho is a meat-n-potatoes kind of place so having tons of salty beef brought to your table might be right up your alley. I still wish the swords had been more like out of Braveheart, rather than The Hobbit.

Tucanos is always a favorite with delicious food and great service. I think the salad bar is my favorite part along with the grilled pineapple. I recently tried some specialty drinks, the "Tucanos" is amazing and kind of tastes like the passion fruit mousse which is AMAZING. I don't see the mousse on the Boise menu but I have had it at their Provo location. I am always WAY too full for dessert but their desserts always look soooo good so I took my daughter there for just dessert one day. I had the mango butter cake which was AMAZING, and my daughter had the chocolate Torre cake which wasVERY RICH. Seriously, one bite was enough. Almost TOO rich. The Brazilian lemonade is really tasty too!

This was the worst Brazilian restaurant i have ever been to. Brazilian restaurants are my favorite but this one was a huge disappointment. I have been to the Tucanos in Salt Lake City and that one was awesome. That's why I was so excited to come to this one. The service was fine. The meats were of such low quality, they all tasted the same and they all had no flavor. The meat was either under cooked or over cooked. The little cubed steaks were smaller than I'm used to and were very dry. It was at 2pm and I felt like we just got left overs. Nothing fresh. I would be hesitant to come back here again. I would not recommend this restaurant. Drive to Utah instead.

This is good stuff for a chain resto. The only caveat is the salad bar which had a couple things that weren't so good. The crab rolls, for instance were nasty. But I suppose that could be expected for a Brazilian meat bar. The service is excellent all around... The atmosphere is actually pretty decent considering this is a chain restaurant. this is not some place you want to take a date if you're going impress her but it's a good "we've been dating awhile place". Our server, Arica, was VERY good. She sensed that my girlfriend wasn't enjoying her drink and insisted upon bringing something different. That is great service! The meat was all very good quality and interesting variety. The couple next to us were super high maintenance and bitchy and they managed to make them happy. The manager was a pro. Overall, good stuff. 4 stars for the service.

Food is great but their reservations are terrible. Called for 7pm reservations and we were finally seated at 7:51pm. And their waiting area is so small, we were like a pack of sardines in a can waiting for our table.

This is a different kind of restaurant. The meats are carved off skewers at your table. Most of the meats were really good but the brisket was waaaay too salty. The salad / other food bar was pretty big but most of it was just ok. The lemonade was sweetened with condensed milk which was just weird. My husband and I both tried to like it but we both switch to iced tea. The service was very good.

About 10 or so meats to go through. There is one that is more unique and out of ordinary than the rest. The taste feels quite typical and the salad bar was a bit better than other restaurant with a salad bar. Overall not impressed but it does seem like a goto place for birthday. I think there were 4 birthdays celebrated while I was there.

Great food, prices, and service! I don't understand how anyone can complain about the prices for all that GOOD food. The servers are very friendly, attentive, and hard working. The only way you can have a bad experience is to be somewhere else! We were in Boise on a business trip from CA and are accustomed to quality food and service. This restaurant surpassed all of our expectations...highly recommend!

Tucanos ~ the Golden Corral of Brazilian Grills! The salad bar is the only thing I can recommend. But wait; at 16 dollars a head for salad, I can't even recommend that. So I take that back. I was in a party of 3 at 7:45 on a Wednesday night and there was a line. I thought that was a good sign. I was wrong. We got seated about 15 minutes later. The seater-lady took our drink orders and told us how the system works. When your wooden token is 'Green up' a meat carver will come and serve you steak. Turn the token 'red up' and that means we don't want any more steak for a while. I've been to a few $80/person similar Brazil/Argentina steak place and always had a great meal. This costs less that have that but we were all anticipating getting a week's worth of meat in one setting. We all then got a salad, from a very well stocked salad bar. About 10 minutes later, as we were just finishing our salads, the drinks finally showed up and simultaneously the first meat guy appears. On the skewers, were chicken hearts. Little tiny, greasy-looking chicken hearts. Now I'm a southerner. Many of the people I love the most eat organ meat. I, however, give it to my dog. None us us wanted any. He left briskly and we waited, and waited. We began to think we did something wrong by not accepting the offering of greasy little chicken hearts. About 5 minutes later a guy shows up with what appears to be Hillshire Farms kielbasa on a skewer. He says they are Brazilian gaucho sausages. We didn't want to offend a second server so we obliged. The server carved off about two bites of sausage for each of us and left as if he were late for a important appointment. Here is something interesting: Brazilian gaucho sausage tastes exactly like Hillshire Farm kielbasa. Exactly! } None of us finished our second bite. A few minutes later a guy shows up with a big chunk of grilled pineapple asking if we wanted a slice. I like grilled pineapple but I had steak on the brain and so I declined. Poof - he was gone. A few minutes later a guy shows up (I think it was the chicken heart guy) with a bowl of brown pot roast looking stuff that he says is barbecue. Maybe it was, but we all said no. He left in a huff. A few minutes later a guy show up with a stick of chicken thighs. I said no thanks and asked where as the sirloin and filet that is shown in the posters all over the walls? He replied he'd send some over..... Oh! Evidently you're suppose to "ask" for the steak.... That would have been some useful information the seater-lady could have shared. Sure enough, in a few minutes a guy comes over with a stick of meat that he says is sirloin. I held out my plate and he shaved off about a 2" by 2" slice of well done steak. It was just a little bit thicker than deli sliced, all-in-all about one medium sized bite for the whole slice. The the server gave the other two at the table a single bite of well done meat and then left; evidently also late for a critical appointment. After that bite we all waited literally 4 or 5 more minutes and the same guy comes back with a stick of what he said was Brazilian beef roast. Only I said "okay" (it looked like little chunks of coal) and he pushed off a single bite of what proved to be very well done and well dried out chuck roast. I needed some water to get it down but the person who brought our cocktails never brought us any water; and we all had nothing but empty cocktail glasses in front of us. Before he scooted off, I asked him if we could get some more steak and steak that wasn't well done. Rare or at least medium rare would be nice. He said, "sure". Alone again at the table, we formed a plan that if any of the servers came back with meat that looked actually like the posters on the wall, one of us would physically hold on to him until we all got a real serving. We realized there was some risk to our safety since they all carry long carving knives and they are all late for critical appointments, but we'd been there 45 minute or so and have only eaten one bite of kielbasa (gaucho sausage) and one bite of over-done sirloin. The risk, clearly worth it. A minute or two later a guy shows up with a stick of chicken hearts! Then a few minutes later the gaucho sausage guy comes again. Then the pineapple guy; then the chicken thigh guy! By now the place was thinning out and and most of the tables were empty. You'd think that the servers would start coming more frequently but you'd be wrong to think that. Finally about 15 minute since our first bite of sirloin, a guy came back with a stick of very well done meat, he said was sirloin. It wasn't worth grabbing him for well done meat so I spoke up and said, "we had asked for rare or at least medium rare." He said, "no problem" and then took his stick of overcooked meat to another table and eventually disappeared. So did we.

I only seem to find myself at tucanos when someone is having a birthday dinner and has the free meal coupon. This time I was the birthday boy and got to bring my friends around. I think the idea of Tucanos is the main reason people truly enjoy their time here. It's a vibrant atmosphere and has a fun and active setting. The way the food is brought to the table is different, but seems more novelty than anything. Let's be serious, tucanos is an all you can eat buffet that features meat. So now that we have clarified what this is we can review the meats and prices. For 21.95 you get to enjoy the full salad bar and the meat rotation. The meats are brought to you by a server who cuts off a small portion from the main husks and moves on. Every time I go to tucanos the meats seem bland and flat. There was no time during my meal where we discussed how good the food was. To people looking at their diet, it felt like empty calories. If I'm going to cheat on my meal plan let's at least enjoy the meal! At the end of the service you are given a survey with the option to receive your own birthday meal card. I filled it out and the manager spoke to me about my concerns. Basically read up and added that the meal feels more like a 14.99 buffet at most and I didn't get the satisfaction that my money was paying for what we received. He apologized and offered me a free dessert coupon. I assume people will keep going to tuconos purely for the novelty and the "idea" that this is good food. I will most likely not return, even when free.

I went in with my wife and kids for the first time. We have always heard about this place. The service was great, and the servers serving the meat were very efficient. But, we were disappointed in the quality of the meat. It felt like we were being fed scraps and pieces at a zoo. The salad bar was better than the skewers of meat. My kids only ate the salad bar because they are very pickie eaters, and weren't comfortable with the different meats. The drinks were okay, very tropical which I loved. Also, it gets very annoying when every single minute the employees sing happy birthday very loud to a customer. Therefore, I can call this restaurant different.

If you like meat, this is a pretty good choice. Sometimes, some of it can be a bit dry or bland, but sometimes it's quite delicious. I don't think any of the salad bar is noteworthy and some of it is kind of gross in my opinion (their sushi is nasty). I've always received good service and left plenty full.

So this is the second time I've eaten at this location and the food quality and service was just as good as the first time. Fresh meats, salad, soups etc. Was very surprised about how clean it was especially for a buffet type of restaurant. I'll definitely be back again. You better come hungry that's for sure Dinner and a glass of tea about 20.00 bucks well well worth it for the quality and quantity of the food and service. Happy eating!!!

Good food! The meat is great and plentiful. The salad bar has a variety of options. It is a little pricey but a nice experience overall. The only negative is that you end up waiting awhile for certain meat to come back around while others you see repetitively.

Some of the worst, low quality food I've ever had. People need to learn that sauces and maranaids do not good food make. Here they use extremely low, poor quality meats and try to pass them off as somthing they are not. In some cases bold faced lies. The crab salad is cheap red dye on cheap white fish like you get in the Walmart deli. I'm sitting here resenting every bite because the cost is not worth it. They er 2 bbq sauces on the table taste like burned rubber. I'm just disgusted......There is nothing more frustrating than a kind, idiot in charge. After complaining to our waitress and the head server, I spoke to the mgr on the way out. To be honest, I hardly ate anything, couldn't stand what I di taste. I wanted my meal comped. The very nice mgr apologized and went to get me free dinner voucher. HEY I didn't like the food. Giving it to me again for free isn't going to change the taste. P.S. I came home and threw up.

I love Tucanos but there are also some serious problems. I'm torn between loving and hating them. The best time to go to Tucanos is 2 or 3pm on a weekday. With the restaurant empty, the waiters are very attentive and the food is absolutely fantastic. But on a weekend, this place is LOUSY! Took 15 minutes to get drinks. The meat servers were SLOW to come around. Every single time they came with any beef, I told them that the meat was way too rare for my taste. But they didn't listen despite me saying that about 15 times. On top of that, we never were offered picanha or costela the entire night, and those are by far the most popular cuts for churrasco. During lunch they had lots of it. So for dinner I had a $25 salad bar and a couple pieces of chicken and turkey which were actually cooked. Even the people at our table who like red meat were saying they couldn't stomach it because it was too rare. The restaurant was too busy to serve us well. During off-peak times this place is delicious and one of my favorite restaurants. But they have far more tables than the waiters can properly serve for dinner.

My wife and I decided to celebrate our getting married that day by going to Tucano's. I have had experienced this kind of dining before in Austin, Texas and this place was great. Not only was there more variety on the salad bar, but the selection of meats was even better at a lower price than most Brazilian grills. Even though it was busy that night (it was Halloween), the service was fast! The lemonade there is the smoothest I have ever had. My criticisms are actually minor. The beef stroganoff on the salad bar could have used more beef, and less noodles. I thought our party was going to have more people so I asked for a table of six, but only five actually showed. When it was time to pay the bill, our waitress tried to charge us for six ( honest mistake ). I would glady eat here again!

I just went for my third time ever to tucanos and unfortunately I was not all that impressed. The first two times I loved it but this time it felt like it was forever for the server to bring a skewer of meat to us. The buffet did not have a great selection. And the cake I ordered that I had before and Loved was nothing special this time especially not for $8. So for me and my mom to eat there it was a little over $60 for our meals, lemonades, and a slice of cake. Way too much money for that.

We ate here with my father in law who is visiting from Arkansas. We had a good time. The food was done well and the service was nice. A key we have found is to take control and tell our servers what we like and don't like. I have been disappointed the last few times that the salad bar hasn't had as many choices as I remember; specifically with many different pasta salads. This last time we ate at 17:00, which was a great time because they weren't busy. One thing we ran into was not getting certain meats brought to our table and having servers bring us the same thing in a row. For instance, we didn't get offered any fish until was asked for it; because we could see other tables getting fish. Then we had a string of different servers bringing us the same thing; like the vegetables, to the point we let them know it was the third time we were offered vegetables and asked to be brought something else. There were also miscommunications, like when I asked for parmesan chicken and they brought parmesan beef. I think the issue may have been the staff rotation changes as the restaurant transitioned from being slow to being busy; due to the time we were dining. My family has eaten at Tucanos before. We usually have good service and good food. There have been times that it wasn't the best, everyone has an off night; overall, we keep coming back because this has been a dependable place.

Tucanos is a awesome place with affordable prices for being a Brazilian steakhouse. You pay $22.99 for a course of about 10 meat/fish selection. Very fun with them bringing skewers of meat on them while they slice it off for you onto your plate. Most Brazilian steakhouses would charge at least $50 for the entree but Tucanos is half of that. Atmosphere and service is great. I will be going back!

Was okay, not great. Overpriced. Staff/Management didn't seem to even completely understand what "Gluten-Free" means as they warned us about something having parmesan cheese on it?? So many different meats at once seems kinda wrong. Didn't feel well after eating most of these things. Note to self: Don't sample an entire farm. One good thing was the salad bar, would only ever come back for that. Then again the salad bar is overpriced so maybe I wouldn't even return for that. Everything is very overpriced here. If you want meat, just go somewhere else and order a steak or something. The meat wasn't even that good here. Disappointed.

I'd been to many Brazilian churrascarias in my life and I'm happy to report that this place competes with the best of them even in the big cities. The loambo (garlic buttered pork loin) is to die for as is the picanha (top sirloin) and fraldinha (tenderloin). The salad bar is great, the lobster bisque is heavenly. I guess I've lucked out as I'm happy to report that all my servers have so far been awesome. We always choose an off time deliberately whenever we go so I've never had much of a wait to sit down and enjoy the food right away. Great place, awesome food. Shortest review for me. :)

Great food! The service is always top notch. Well worth the price and if you come with an appetite it is a good value. Especially good are the beef selections, but the tilapia is notable as well.

I've been to three or four different Brazilian steakhouses and this was above average. It's more of a casual family restaraunt and the meats were pretty good but nothing spectacular, service was excellent though. It was definitely a great value for the price but if you've been to Fogo De Chao/ Texas De Brazil, it's not the same experience.

I wish wholeheartedly that I could give this restaurant more stars. However, my recent experience make that impossible at this time. I will start with the two stars I am able to give. These are both for the incredible quality of food. The salad festival salad bar is superb and the churrasco is always on point. My churrasco favorites are the top sirloin, beef tenderloin, garlic parmesan beef, marinated beef brisket and of course the bacon wrapped filet mignon. And I will take a moment here to make a point of the great service of the meat servers. They are accommodating, kind and never fail to hustle! They ask your preferences and learn your favorites and then make sure to give you exactly what you want, every time. Now, the reason I left as a highly unsatisfied customer. I arrived at 11:45am on a Friday. The waiting area was packed but we were assured there was only a 15 minute wait. No problem. I stood directly in front of the waiting area making occasional eye contact with the hostesses, a casual smile here and there. Soon, I notice that everyone ahead of us has been seated and everyone behind us has been given buzzers. Around 12:25pm (35 mins now), I politely ask the hostess if I should have received a buzzer, or if it was fine that I didn't have one. She said "Do you want one?" I half-smiled and said, that it wasn't necessary, I was just making sure we didn't miss something. We then noticed that every person that came in behind us was being seated. Trying desperately not to seem over eager or rude, we continued to wait. Now, 1:08pm (1 hour, 23 mins now), I decided to ask where we might be on the list. We even chalked some of the wait up to the fact that we did not have a reservation. (For the record, no one had reservations that afternoon). When I politely asked the hostess if she could give us an estimate, she scanned her entire sheet of crossed off names, then flipped back a page and scanned that one for our name. And there we were. Crossed off near the top of the previous page. She then begins to say, "Oh, we called your.." to which I replied "I have not moved from this position since we arrived and have checked in with you once already. Please do not tell me that you called my name." The hostess next to her said "Give them this table" and we were immediately seated. Next, after being seated, we STILL gave them the benefit of the doubt. Until we were completely ignored and overlooked by our waitress. Our empty salad bar plates sat on the table, and our drinks left empty. Until a seemingly nice manager came by to ask us of our experience. We politely told him that our service had lacked, to which he removed our empty plates and cups and assured us that it would improve. And lo and behold, the waitress brought refills, never made eye contact, dropped them on the table and kept it moving. She did however stop at the table behind us when they proceeded to tell her how impeccable her makeup was and that she was such a pretty young thing. And it was a table of two older women and an older gentleman. Needless to say, she spent the remainder of our time there sitting at their table, and giving them her phone number urging them to call when they visited again. The manager returned again, and I told him "Please tell me that this is an overly busy day for you or something, but I have never felt so insignificant in my life." To which he replied, "Nope, you should be getting acknowledged, I will talk to her." Oh great, a little ways away we see him pull her aside and she turns around rolling her eyes! Right in front of us.. And then comes back over to ask if there was anything she could do for us now. We were very nice and said no that we were fine and she walked right back to her new BFF's at the table behind us. And no joke, she tells them "I was just complained about, apparently I didn't serve their drink refills." So that table calls a different manager over to tell him about how amazing she was as a server to them. And I quote "She's perfect!" At this point, we were more than ready to leave. The waitress eventually (now around 3:15pm) brings our check. And thankfully the manager takes it to ring us up. He is well aware of what happened, certainly he will at the very least remove the one soft drink we had to beg a refill for... Nothing. The manager did absolutely nothing. No apology. No compensation. Nothing. I hope that is not how this place normally conducts business. It is a shame the food is so great, but such horrible service goes without second glance. Despite the great food, I will definitely be dining elsewhere in the future.

Positively awesome experience! After the last few times my co-workers had raved about a place that turned out to be less than fantastic in my opinion, my boyfriend and I were slightly skeptical about Tucanos. I am willing to try new things however, so we took a chance. I am so very glad we did. From the drinks, my milkshake-like papaya smoothie and my boyfriend's lime-aid type mango drink, to the roasted pineapple dessert (though it came through on the meat rotation) this place was way beyond our expectations. The salad bar was truly amazing. It had to have had over 100 varieties of stuff to through on your plate. I saw hard boiled quail eggs and tossed a few on, they were nothing all that different from chicken eggs - but now I can say I've had them. There was way too much to sample everything, but all that I did, I loved. Next up was the "meat rotation". Based on a "green is go, red is stop" wooden pillar you place at the end of your table, the hot meats just kept coming. I believe they said there was 16 different types of meats that would come through, but by about bite 8 of 6 selections, I was slowing down. After that, I nibbled a small bite of my boyfriend's helping as he miraculously made it through all 16. My favorite was the brown sugar roasted pineapple slice. Least favorite was marinated, roasted chicken hearts - but, again, I can say I've had it now. Although there was a full dessert platter with tempting choices, we were well beyond stuffed and had to pass. Tucanos will be top choice of Boise picks from now on.

I have been to several of these types of restaurants and this is very similar to Texas de Brazil. Servers come around with meat skewers and you can get your choice of several meats including beef, pork, and chicken. The portions are a little smaller than what I am used too but the servers come around often enough that you don't feel empty or ignored. You can get the optional salad bar to balance out your meal. Everyone should try this at least once.

I first discovered Tucanos while I was searching for a Caribbean restaurant for a class assignment and have been back many times, often with friends that are in town visiting. Not once have I regretted going! (Except when it feels as though we must be rolled out of the building and into the car from over-eating!) The ambiance of the venue makes it comfortable for both casual and formal parties, intimate encounters or group events. It is loud, yes, so I would recommend this place for a group unless you're going during the slower hours. If you choose Tuncanos for a date night, make sure it's not a first date because A) you wont' be able to talk all that much and B) you're going to want to eat everything you see, probably not the first impression for anyone. The service is great here. They get you seated as quickly as possible (if you're going during a busy hour and have a big group, call in ahead of time!) and are very attentive to your table's needs and requests. I felt like the wait staff and the meat servers were all very well-traing, well-informed and had great customer service. The flavored limeade (lemonade) is to die for! (Passionfruit is my favorite.) I'm not 21, but my comrades always order the Blue Piranha and always rave about how good it is. A friend once ordered the drink that comes in the pineapple (I don't know the name..), it's a little on the spendy side but seemed to be well worth it. The salad bar is by far the best I've ever had. Granted I usually get the same dishes, I've never heard bad things about any that are offered. The meat choices are divine and the servers do a great job of explaining things for you. And the pineapple... Oh that pineapple. Honestly one of the best foods I have EVER had. YUM YUM YUM! Tucanos is a little on the expensive side, around $20-25 a person if I remember correctly, but totally worth it. Remember, we're not eating at McDonald's, folks. My first visit here was with a group of about 7 people, all of us ordered drinks and we got appetizers (not knowing what we were getting into...) and averaged about $40 per person, and not one of us regretted it. Tucanos is a must-go when I have friends and family in town, or for any big events we do!

We go here two to 3 times a year- usually for my birthday and another time for my husbands birthday. Then always another time at least. We are part of the Birthday Club, so it's nice saving an extra $20. My kids are still young enough, that they eat for free as well. The staff is always really nice about asking us if we have any requests on meat. My 5 year old daughter loves the chicken hearts, so they specifically put some on the grill for her (the place wasn't busy when we were there). The salad bar is always stocked and delicious. The Kobe Beef, which is offered in March, was delicious!

I might be a little hard judging this place. My main concern was the price for what you get. They have a good service but I feel the quality of the food does not match the price they want.

My Husband and I visited Tucanos last night while we were in town visiting family. It was the first time for both of us at a Brazilian grill and we were very happy with what we found. The salad bar, the side bar and the delicious meats all made our visit fantastic! We both loved the grilled pineapple! We both wished we hadn't eaten lunch because we were full only after a few servings ;) The wait staff are all friendly and offered prompt and courteous service. I especially enjoyed the Pomegranate Mojito, pretty unique and delicious. We will be back the next time we visit from Virginia :)

For the first time, I've decided to write a review on an establishment. Saturday before last, my family went out to have a birthday lunch around 230. We were greated by a friendly waiter that took us to our seats. Asked what we would like to drink, gave the whole welcome introduction and told us we can make our way to the salad bar. Well we arrived at the table and we waited, and we waited, and then again we ask the waiter just to get us water. By the time we started our second plate, we finally got our water. 25 minutes into eating. The service was horrible. We spent over 2 hours there. Ordered mixed drinks and even desert as we were celebrating a birthday. Very disappointed. To spend a great amount of money there. Each person had a mixed drink, entree and a desert. If you've been to tucanos you understand that's a very expensive meal. We felt so disappointed. The waiter tried to make up for it but we were also disgusted as he was sweating horribly, through his shirt, and sweat dropped off his face. I understand no one is perfect. I'm completely ok with that. But to come in there and spend $50 a person for customer service I would receive at Applebee's was very discouraging. My favorite restaurant is now at the bottom. Thank you for a birthday that felt wasted.

Disappointing! The noise level was extreme and the restaurant was very chaotic. The food and service were average at best. The meat servers rarely came by our table making it an expensive, salad-bar meal. It was definitely not worth the money.

The salad bar was a bit underwhelming. There were a few items, like the corn and beans, that appear to come out of a can or are not inspiring enough to make you go for seconds. My biggest disappointment however was for the quality of their meat selection. Most did not taste succulent enough to be of PRIME quality; they were rather chewy and contain a few fibers. The pulled beef was tasty. There was no lamb offering. I also think they went overboard at bacon wrapping and grilling of meats.

  • Josh A.

Let's start with the good: The staff were friendly and there was no wait at all for the meat. The price for dinner was also about half of what I normally spend on churrascarias. The Bad: I have eaten at churrascarias in Rio, Sao Paul, Belo Horizonte, Las Vegas, Seattle, and San Diego. This was by far the worst. I struggle to even want to call this a churrascaria. Sure it has guys running (literally!) around the restaurant with cuts of meat, and it has a salad bar, but many of the cuts are not traditional. Since when does teriyaki steak, italian pasta dishes, and sushi belong at a churrascaria? I didn't get it. As far as I could tell walking past where the meats are cooked, they aren't even using wood to cook over. There was no smokiness to the meat at all. There were a few traditional cuts, but a lot of other foods there that just don't belong. As mentioned in other reviews, the restaurant was extremely noisy. I've never experienced that level of noise except on a Saturday night at the Seattle churrascaria with several football teams having a party. This restaurant was louder. On to the meat: It was mostly bland and chewy. There were a few cuts that were okay, but nothing that really reminded me of what I have experienced elsewhere. The salad bar was impressive in quantity, and okay in quality. I went back for three rounds, which is abnormal for me, as I go to eat meat, and enjoy the salad bar as an appetizer of sorts. I was in a party of people both experienced and brand new to the Brasilian steak house experience. The experienced ones without exception thought this restaurant was uninspiring. The new people didn't like it, which makes me sad, as churrascarias are my favorite place to dine. I just hope that someday they'll try it again at another place.

It was a busy night, but there's no excuse for skipping over us in the reservation line. We waited for an hour and finally had to ask how long it would be until we were seated. The wait was 40 minutes they said. they had somehow crossed off our reservation though they had never called our name or paged us. They stuck us at a back table that was out of the way of the carvers and our waitress was not very attentive, but the carvers were very friendly. Tried a lot of stuff, only a few things worthwhile: the filet wrapped in bacon and the ever delicious brown sugar pineapple among them.

This was my fist time for this type of restaurant. If you like the outside edge of a herb/salt encrusted piece of meat (like I do), then you'll like this place. My impression was they bring out the meat, serve the seasoned edges, take it back to the kitchen, season it again, cook it some more and repeat. When I got there at 5:00 on a weeknight, they made a big deal about my not having a reservation. They never did get real busy while I was there. The drink service was fine. The salad bar had many options but, you don't (or shouldn't) go to restaurants like this for the salad options - just enough greens to clean your pallet between meat servings. The meat servers did a great job keeping it flowing as long as my signal to do so was displayed. They came by many, many more times than would be typical for a restaurant meal - something you should remember when determining your tip. This was one of my first reviews and I originally gave them three stars. After reflection on my other reviews, this place definitely should be 4 stars based on both the food and service! I apologies for not rating it as such initially.

Nothing that I tried was WOW! But the experience was good. A lot of new things that I had never had (pigeon egg (or something idk. Lol) chicken heart etc) service was excellent. The drinks were tasty. I had passion fruit and raspberry lemonades (not at the same time). Definitely worth a go. A little spendy. A little over $25 per person. But good enough for at least a one time go. Ps I'm a super picky eater so your experience may be way better.

I love the concept to bring the meat around and the salad bar. So you don't have a lot of boring time (keeps dead silence away). My first experience, I went with my boyfriend it was later in the evening and they sat us in the back corner. We had a great experience. I decided to sign up for the birthday club and go have dinner the next month and bring back the whole family (11 all together). We made reservations a week in advance. They sat us in a line instead of together so we all could not speak to each other. It made me very upset that I got my whole family together, but we could not talk to each other because of the way they decided to sit us. Then to top it all off we all had our own tabs and they put on all of them a 18% gratitude. Which my aunt had her own tab and paid a $5 tip just by herself. They ended up with over a $50 gratitude fee. Since when do you get to charge with out informing or notating by a sign saying why you are going to charge a 18% on top of our order. You don't until they bring you your receipt! Since this last experience I will no longer bringing in a large group and never celebrate my birthday there again!

The food is great & the service is good..but the noise level is almost unbearable ...I would highly recommend to the staff that they not have background music playing during the peak hours..I realize that the place is very busy etc. But the absence of background noise might help a little ..

I ate here on Monday and I don't know if it was because Mondays are generally slower i get that i am in the industry. Any how the over view was simply this "wow that was a really good $25 salad bar." Food- Was basically over marinated over cooked cheap meat. I don't know how many chicken dishes i got cut on to my plate. Chicken hearts? OK i love chicken feet...but in order to enjoy chicken feet it must be cooked properly and same goes for chicken hearts... i wanted to ask the kid that was cutting my meat to try it ha ha. Don't serve it if you wouldn't eat it!!!! The meat was over marinated you could tell because the marinate starts to eat the meat and makes the texture basically acid cooked the meat then they cooked it lol. Summary- Just another corporate place in Boise where people don't know better and call it good...... eat local they are the ones who care ultimately because if they go out of business they are done... so there food must taste better than meat on a stick.

Overall I give the food here a 4/5. But you just can't be the experience they have at this place. Waiters constantly come around with different meats to try which is really cool and different and how many places serve Brazilian food in Boise. Also the food is always fresh and the restaurant is very clean. Great service everytime I've been here as well.

Nothing like asking for medium rare beef and receiving what looks like a blood clot on your plate. We have normally received excellent food and service but today at lunch the food was a bit off.

Me and my wife ate here for dinner one night. The food was all tasty and the way that the waiters bring the different meat dishes to your table when you ask is pretty unique. Never been to a restaurant quite like it. The food itself, however was standard restaurant type food. Nothing too extraordinary. It is worth noting that a large part of the experience is buffet-style. Other than the meat dishes. You get a lot of the food yourself. Which is fine.

Food is good. The salad bar is well done. My only beef with this place is about reservations. They tell you they take them but they are meaningless. You show up at your reserved time but you get put in general queue.

The first time I went here was for dinner (someone recommended it for a birthday because people who are part of the birthday club can get a buy one/ get one special during their birthday month). Frankly, I was underwhelmed. The noise level was obnoxious; the wait was long; and the grilled meats just weren't that good. Chicken hearts on a stick, anybody?! The grilled vegetables were likewise disappointingly tasteless. Since then, I've learned to do it right. :) Go for lunch instead of dinner (much quieter and more enjoyable); get one of the delicious non-alcoholic drinks (my favorite is the guava lemonade); and just do the salad "festival." The selections there, while hardly qualifying as "salad," make for a satisfying lunch. Some of my favorites are the quail eggs; mozarella and tomatoes; ham and bean soup (although don't bother with the lobster bisque!); the totally delicious little cheese dumplings; and the fried bananas. Their fried bananas are by far the best in town . . . so creamy inside that they almost taste like custard! If you do, however, decide to go with the churrasco, your best bets are the grilled pineapple and the quite delicious marinated brisket (ironically, the only meat selection that doesn't come on a skewer!) I've never tried the desserts, so I can't comment on those.

Tucanos Brazilian Grill is located just off of I-84 a few miles before downtown Boise. What I love about this place is their tasty grilled meats that just keep coming. Grilled vegetables and fruit are good as well. They have a salad bar that has been alright the two times I went. Kind hard to keep everything tidy there. There is also a selection of pastas, soups, and other bites such as rolls or even sushi (real basic stuff). The place is pretty casual and works well for a party of two or a large group. Can be kind of noisy, especially on the weekend. Dessert is awesome as well if you still have room at the end. Pretty pricey to go here, but if you're like my husband, you just go for the meat and not even look at the salad bar. A fun place to go if you're visiting in the area!
