Let me begin by saying that I had posted a prior review of this establishment, in which I detailed not one but two visits where me and no less than three other guests became violently sick after consuming Sockeye's food and drink. It appears that Sockeye used their Yelp weight to have that review flagged for removal. Whatever. Then, a few days ago, and several months after my prior visits, a Sockeye employee named "Dawn" sent me a private message seeking more information. I reiterated my claims to Dawn, and I now present you with her response: " In the eight months since our opening on Fairview, yours is the only complaint we have had and although we acknowledge the illness you experienced, we are quite certain it did not originate in our establishment. " Be advised that Sockeye will "acknowledge" your illness, then somehow use their medical prowess to deduce that it originated somewhere else! Amazing! Perhaps Sockeye can tell me where my nagging back pain originated while they're at it. Oh, and my mother has this intermittent vertigo condition that could use a diagnosis as well. This has to be one of the worst (if not most hilarious) responses from a business I've seen. EVER. Rule #1 of business: the customer is always right. Always. Just fall on the sword, you fools. You gain nothing and risk far more when you grandstand in this manner and redirect blame to the customer. I can't give you negative stars, so it looks like you get one. You're welcome.

We waited to give this place a shot because of some of the reviews this place has received since they first opened and we wanted to let them work the bugs out. We went in hoping that it would be much better than the Cole location as we dined there once and did not have a good experience. We do however enjoy eating at breweries as they typically have great food and a fun atmosphere for relaxing. Upon walking up to the restaurant, there are two big patios out front with water features, nice landscaping and in the evening, there is even croaking fake frogs which was a funny but nice touch. Inside, the restaurant is very spacious. Had a lot of wooden decor and a Sun Valley style lodge feeling. The bar itself is large and they have big glass garage doors in the bar that open up to one of the patios out front. They did a great job with the decor both inside and out and it has a very nice feel for relaxing and having a meal with family and friends. 4+ stars for sure for the ambiance. Nailed that! But let's get real, the ambiance cannot carry a restaurant, the food is what matters. We arrived here late Friday evening about 8:30. Place was pretty busy which is a good sign. We decided upon ordering the Friday special, which was a salmon cake, Cesar salad and cup of clam chowder. It basically was a huge plate of what they call a Cesar salad but tasted nothing like it. It was very odd, not at all close to a traditional Cesar and was pretty bland. The clam chowder tasted like something I could buy in a can at the store. The salmon cake was cooked pretty well and actually had chunks of salmon in it which was a nice surprise. It did have a bit of a Van de Kamps fish stick flavor to it but the Dijon lime sauce on the salmon cake was really good and made it stand out. The salmon cake was so small however and there was only one so I felt that I basically paid for a really bland Cesar salad for dinner. The finger steaks and sweet potato fries were pretty good my husband said. I tried a bite and I'm not a finger steak person but it did have nice flavor. Our daughter ordered the New York steak and when it came out, it was grey. It looked like they boiled the steak, threw it on the floor and then tried to cover it up with some blue cheese and bacon on top. It was the worst steak she has ever ordered. We did have a couple good beers with dinner (oatmeal stout and a porter which were really good). My husband did comment that we came to a brewery and ordered a steak which we shouldn't judge them by but I firmly believe that if a restaurant puts something on their menu, it should be good. If I owned a restaurant, I wouldn't put mediocre food on the menu just to please the masses. Funny story but just a few days later on Sunday a few friends swung by and said they were on their way to lunch and wanted us to join them. They said they were going to Sockeye and we cringed but went with them anyway. We were not hungry so we just ordered a couple beers while they ate. They ordered the Egg Rolls and we tried a bite and they had nice heat to them and were pretty flavorful. The pickled veggies with them along with the sauce made them better. They also had a couple burgers and the galena gold clams. Everyone seemed happy with their. The service was fantastic both trips I will add. Very attentive and friendly. The beers also were very good. I am giving this place 3 stars because I really liked the atmosphere, the beer and the friendly wait staff. I think the food might be hit and miss but I'm sure there are some things on the menu better than others. Because of the proximity of this restaurant and ambiance, I may come back. It is hard because there are so many good restaurants just down the street by the Village however and for the prices you pay here with the hit and miss quality, it can be hard to swallow. I really want to like this place so maybe I need to stick with a beer (or two) and maybe an appetizer on the patio.

I think I kinda love this place. Came here around 9pm on a Saturday. My dining companion and I opted for a seat at the bar where we sampled a couple of beers before settling on their Purple Haze Espresso Stout for him and the Peach Creek Triple for me. I'm new to beer, but I have to say the Peach Creek Triple (a Belgian) is so far my favorite beer of all time. Truly, lovely. For dinner, I ordered their Sockeye Salmon Fish & Chips. I knew from their other location that I wasn't a big fan of their fries, so I substituted their sweet potato fries for their regular variety. Holy platter of ka-pow! Best fish & chips I've had in Boise to date. First of all, Sockeye Grill has a contract with an Alaskan fishery that allows them so many pounds of fresh caught, wild Alaskan salmon per year. So many pounds, in fact, that they're guaranteed to never serve any farmed salmon. Ever. They then take that wild Alaskan salmon, dip it in their Angel's Perch Amber Ale batter, golden fry it, and plate it with a lovely lemony dill tarter sauce that compliments it perfectly. The sweet potato fries (as with everything they serve there) are freshly made, never frozen. They serve them with a Sriracha fry sauce. It is the perfect coupling of sweetness (with the sweet potato fries) and slightly spicy (with the Sriracha fry sauce). Amazing. The service was friendly, attentive, and efficient (shout-out to our bartender extraordinaire, Andrew--aka Lopes!). Our food came out quickly and was piping hot. The atmosphere is all rustic lodge casual and brewpub comfortable. I'm glad we waited just a bit to try this place as I think they have all the opening kinks worked out and the food and service dialed in quite nicely. Get to it!

The food is always good but the Service isn't the best. We ordered an appetizer and we got our on entrée before the appetizer. They walked passed my table when my water was empty and went and filled up another tables water. The sockeye on Cole has better service. It sucks because this one is closer.

I've been in the Boise area for over ten years and have driven past their Cole location many of times as well as their other location tucked away on Fairview. Sockeye is an unique Northwest restaurant and brewery. I have struggled over the years to find restaurants that I can bring out of town visitors to without some of the menu not offending particular tastes. Sockeye has something for everyone but it's not done to where quantity overshadows quality. If you like Salmon, Sockeye is for you. There are quite a few Salmon dishes to choose like Salmon tacos to Fish N chips Salmon dipped in their own Ale. Not into Salmon, no problem, there are wraps, salads, and burgers, but all of which are handcrafted with the highest quality. Take for example the Egg Rolls on the Appetizer menu. Egg Rolls right? Hand-made filled with three types of cheese, jalapeños and bacon served with an Asian slaw. I wouldn't call it a salad per se based on size, but it was a delightful dish served right. There are about 5 burgers along with a build your own option. I overheard two guys talking about the ' Spicy One '. A burger seasoned with cajun seasonings with spicy mayo, jalapeños, bacon and bleu cheese. Swayed by their allegiance, we gave it a try along with the sweet potato fries. The service and pace were great for a filled Friday dinner. Sockeye was definitely jumping but there were no service issues detected and everyone seated at the bar were having a great time catching up with old and new acquaintances. While waiting, we decided to try their Galena Gold brew. Our server provided us with a sample and it gave it a swig. Unfortunately for us it was not to our liking but we were optimistic that we would find a Sockeye brew that we would like the next time. Back to dinner, the plates and presentation were as expected and the temperature of the food was hot. The sweet potato fries are a delightful side but can be easily destroyed. That was not the case here. They were hot, fresh, home crafted, and the sea salt crystals found sprinkled on top were a pleasant surprise. My wife did not like the salt, which was shocking, but I thoroughly enjoyed the extra crunch and the flavor. The burger had great flavors and was perfectly cooked. The egg rolls were just as good as well as the slaw. If you are looking for a Northwest experience not chain related and want to impress your friends from out of town? Go seek out the Sockeye tucked away on Fairview. It is truly a hidden gem from the Gem state.

Convenient location, very roomy inside. Lots of tables and good decor. Food is very good. I ordered the crab cakes with brown rice and veggies...very tasty! Husband and son ordered the burgers, Bronco and Spicy burgers....also good! My youngest one ordered fish and chips, kids size...but boy, they are big! The 3oz beer sampler was good so we could taste 6 different types of their Sockeye beer. I like the lightest one, refreshing and a bit sweet. Good place for family and friends dinner place.

Delicious food and excellent service! We LOVE the Sockeye Salmon Fish and Chips. We tried the Big Six beer sampler and weren't impressed with all six beers, but we're from Fort Collins, CO where craft beers are a specialty so we're picky. Overall we had a very pleasant experience.

This was my first time at this Sockeye location and I immediately came to the conclusion that this location of Sockeye is really cool! Once I exited the chaos of Fairview Ave, I immediately noticed the woodsy landscape surrounding the ski lodge-like construction, and I realized I was in for a classic Idaho dining experience.... great local brew, served alongside fresh wild Sockeye salmon (and other offerings). Having been to the Cole Rd location before, I was already familiar with Sockeye's menu. What I wasn't prepared for was somehow at this location the food seemed better! Both my dining partner and I commented on how much better the eats were at this location. I'm certainly not knocking the Cole Rd location, but unless you were on foot, it'd be worth the extra 3 or 4 miles to go to their Fairview Ave locale. Upon entrance, I was greeted with friendly service and was immediately seated. I also felt an even greater sense that I was inside a ski-lodge somewhere deep in the great Idaho back-country. The open beam lodge-pole construction, fireplace roaring in the corner and classic Idaho artwork adorning the walls all came together to create an awesome atmosphere that doesn't require a whole lot of imagination before you totally forget that moments ago, you were driving down one of Boise's busiest streets. Now that your relaxed, order one of their fine craft brews and a plate of yum, and stay a while. Fresh Sockeye salmon, fresh Sockeye suds, fresh Sockeye service... Yay! I'm a fan.

This is the closest brewery to our home so the Sockeye is an easy weekly stop for us. The food is well priced and the portions are large. The service has always been decent and the beer is great. Definitely one of the best breweries in town.

A few friends kept recommending this place to me and they were right, it was great! Fast service, good atmosphere, loved the food and beer. I ordered the full tap sampler so that I could try all the brews. It came on a cute tray with descriptions of each beer under the glass. The Sockeye Salmon fish and chips was really good, made with REAL sockeye salmon!!! It paired perfectly with a lemon wedge and tartar sauce.

This restaurant has a family- friendly, sports bar atmosphere. Their salmon burger is heavenly. The craft beers are tasty, and the service was prompt, even on a busy Friday night. For a first-timer I was pleasantly surprised. It's one of my favorites now.

Delicious Buffalo Chicken Sliders!!! Yummmmmmm.......and an absolute must is the Espresso Stout (Purple Haze) !!!

Go for the beer. Stay away from the food. The service is poor (waitress nearly ran from table every time she came by). The mashed potatoes that came with my New York steak (below average), were so fresh from the refrigerator they were COLD. Like I implied the beer was very good. I also had tried the one on Cole and this one is just as bad.

Dropped in today for a quick bite to eat around 4 p.m. and wasn't completely disappointed or completely satisfied. For starters, our waiter was either close to getting off his shift or really just not in the mood to do his job. We were seated and way too long later our drink orders were taken and when they were delivered the waiter quickly took off again without taking orders for appetizers. Too much time later, our waiter returned and at that time we put in our appetizer order together with our entrees. Our waiter didn't return until after another waiter brought out our food. We had the salmon cakes, the cabo burger, fish tacos, and the Reuben sandwich, all with a side of sweet potato fries. All of the food was decent. The salmon cakes were tasty, the Reuben was okay, and the tacos were ehhh...okay as well (I don't like pineapple on my fish tacos). The cabo burger was almost terrific; the beef patty was slightly bland but otherwise very well prepared and tasty with all the fixings. The sweet potato fries and spicy mayo sauce were a fantastic treat--the best part of the entire meal. All in all nothing to write home about. Would I recommend it? Not really. Nothing here stands out enough to differentiate it from any other restaurant. In addition to that there were hardly any people but our server wasn't attentive at all. We could've had more drinks or a better experience, but unfortunately that just wasn't the case. $50

Had a great lunch here on Saturday. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I had a delicious wrap and my friend had the chili dog also delicious. There was a great beer can collectors gathering on the patio very interesting. They have done a beautiful job on the construction. I was there too early to drink some beer but I'll be back.

I used to go to the Sockeye on Cole but their service wasn't good and neither their food. Looks like they have learned a lot, the new brewery is very nice, a huge bar and good food. Their beer selection is very nice for every taste. I'm a big fan of their Purple Haze Espresso Stout and IPAs.

Fairview location. We always sit at the bar and we always get great service and have a great time. This place is beautiful! The crab cakes are the absolute best and don't even get me started on the beer, delicious.

This place is great! I love their beer and food selection. The atmosphere is amazing. They have a very open rustic feel, but there are a few large screen TVs so you don't have to miss the game. The staff is very friendly and service is always top notch. My favorite thing on the menu is the Cabo Burger and the Porter on Nitro. Every time I come I try to order something else, but I usually fall back to the Cabo. This place would get 5 stars from me if they had growler specials. Most other brew pubs that I have been to, and I have been to many, always offer some type of weekly special. Create a $8 growler fill day, and you will get that 5th star. Other than that I will be back many times.

Horrible service 15 minutes at the bar and both bartenders won't make eye contact. Asked for menus and bartender later came and picked them up without even asking if we would like to order.

From what I have seen from other peoples reviews is that the food is great and the services is bleh. My experience though is that the food is AMAZING and the service is great. I have stopped in twice for lunch, both time got the BYOB burger. The meat, toppings, bacon, and bun were perfect. I did steal a few things from other plates at the table and all the food was good. There service both times was good/great. The first did her job and never left us waiting. The second time a girl went above and beyond. She took our orders and we wanted food to go as well, she took the orders at the same time and put the to go orders in when our food came out. We didnt have to ask or question, she had it all taken care of. I will be going back again soon.

I was talked into going to Sockeye on Fairview (despite not being terribly fond of the original) and I'm glad I took the advice. Our server Alyssa (sp?) was attentive but not overly so. I asked her for advice on the menu. She suggested several items, but the Chicken Comfort Bowl with bacon and jalapeños really stood out. It was very, very good! The didn't have my beloved Heineken, but I tried their Galena Gold. It was good, but not great. I'll be back and I definitely recommend it for good food and great service. If you love their beer you will really like this place.

The decor was confusing: mountain cabin vs TV explosion sports bar. The food was okay, with some newer interpretations on pub fare, like Kobe beef hot dogs. The beer was delicious and refreshingly inexpensive. The plethora of televisions are so overwhelming that I doubt we will go back for a while.

Great craft beer selection and good selection of menu options. I had the steak fingers and their Amber beer with sweet potato fries. Will define tube back.

Four of us had dinner at the Sockeye Grill this weekend. Service was terrible. Super slow. Salads were warm and tasteless. Dressing was watered down. Salmon was excellent. Nachos were okay. Finger steaks were mushy and drab. Waitress knew her beer. The dark lager was excellent. The lighter beers we had were too warm. Looks like this restaurant need some fine tuning. The atmosphere was like a warehouse, more like being in a barn than a restaurant. Tvs everywhere but the news was on. Huh? How depressing is that? We won't be back.

Nice Northwest menu with some of your favorite brew pub items. Kobe hotdog a surprise to see along with health choices, salads, multiple salmon dishes. The beers were solid and easy to see why several have received national awards. Personally tried the clams to start. Surprisingly light, good portion. The Caesar salad had a nice twist with added red onion and egg; cedar planked salmon was cooked and seasoned perfectly. All around an excellent choice especially since this was a drive by spare of the moment lunch stop. To top it off the staff and waiter super nice. In the mood for good beer and good food. Stop here!

Good variety of brews from pilsner to boch to super hoppy. Great "bar" food with congenial servers who aim to please. If you haven't been to this venue, you are missing a treat. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Service was pretty mediocre. Food was meh. Dining area is noisy. The ONLY saving grace was the beers. Boise has quite a few brew pubs that are much better. Sockeye. Reboot your menu. Please

Stopped in on a whim for dinner. Seated right away and love the atmosphere. Took 15 minutes just to have my drink order taken and another 30 mins before our food order was taken. Ordered bronco burger, soup and salad and nachos. Burger was good, soup was great, salad was just lettuce with sine red onion slices - very blah. Nachos came out burned and with hardly any cheese. Sent them back because they were inedible. Overall disappointed in the experience and probably won't be back

The food here is horrible. Service is slow and inattentive. I had salmon cakes, seriously I could have got a fillet of fish from McDonald's for same taste & quality. Sides were brown rice that tasted like cardboard. And Brussel sprouts. .. ewww, who even likes Brussel sprouts, at least offer options. No one checked to see how everything was. Had to flag down the waitress for drinks. Won't be back!

I wish I could give zero stars to this place. We walked in last night and were told it would be about a 25-30 minute wait. There were some open spots right at the bar, so we decided to do that. There were 4-5 employees in the area, but nobody even acknowledged our presence. An individual I believe to be the manager was talking to a person sitting at the bar, and by the level of engagement in the conversation, it appeared they knew each other. The conversation continued, and still no acknowledgement of us. We are fairly patient and have dealt with poor service elsewhere, but it was rather ridiculous that 4-5 people could not even look our way to let us know that somebody would be with us soon. I am not sure how long we sat there, but we finally decided to leave. The person believed to be the manager suddenly had a startled look as we got up, but still made no move to apologize or help us out. We will not be trying this place again.

Nice building but that it's about it. To start after being seated took way to long to take our order STRIKE 1. The booth next to us sat down after us ordered after us got there food before us. My husband wanted a rum and coke they only serve beer and wine STRIKE 2 but that's not a deal breaker. I ordered a pinot noir did I mention I am a wine snob for $9 a glass Indian Creek it should be good great wine , WRONG the wine was bad possibly a week old open bottle I had to send back STRIKE 3. Finally the food not much selection over priced in my opinion this is litetally bar food not impressed food 2 stars STRIKE 4. I love Kona Grill at least the food is awesome only a bit higher price but worth the good service, nice environment, good food, full bar. Should of went to Kona Grill. If you are accustom to lower end food then you may like it.

So, I have been waiting a long time to post a review on my favorite brewery in Boise. I decided to check the reviews out of curiosity and found I had something in common with a past review. I go to Sockeye at least twice a week, bringing family, friends and anyone from out of town that comes to visit. I recently stopped by on a busy night to get some grub and their delicious Velvet Falls Cream Ale. My server was one of my favorites that is very attentive and overly accommodating to my sometimes critical needs. It just so happens that I remember another guest that was sitting in the same area as my table. Go ahead, stop reading my review and go view Michelle B.'s post. I will wait......done reading? Ok. That is what prompted me to post my review. First off, I can be a bit too critical at times when posting on Yelp. Having been a part of the industry before, and I can be considered a bit picky about service and product. That being said, it sickened me to see this woman's post and the way she acted that evening. I was in earshot of her table the whole evening. As usual I received impeccable service for a busy night. The server bent over backwards for her and she was outright rude at times. It was embarrassing to even listen to her. This was her only Yelp review. And a terrible one at that. So let us go through her "STRIKES" to clear a few things up. Strike 1: You are in a super busy restaurant where every server is busting their butt to give the best service possible under a very difficult environment. You got your food later than the booth next to you? Do you have ANY idea how a large kitchen works? This, in itself, drives me insane! Every dish takes a certain time to create. The 5-8 people in the kitchen each have a job to fulfill. Some items get out quicker than others and are ready the minute the order comes in. Your server could have been multitasking and grabbed more than one order, had to wait for an open computer, or had to run a few drinks to another table to keep his section running smooth. In any situation, this so-called strike has been revoked. Strike 2: No hard alcohol? Really? You are in a BREWERY! I have been to breweries that don't even serve wine, let alone hard alcohol that is a deterrent to their product. Some of the best product around, I may add. Strike 2 revoked. Strike 3: The wine. (Side note. I am a bigger wine snob than a beer snob as you so eloquently put it.) Are you a wine snob because of your local knowledge? Your savvy taste buds? A true wine snob knows that occasionally you get a bad poor from a wine-by-the-glass list. I had it happen to me in Napa Valley at Duckhorn Vineyards. Ever heard of it? I POLITELY told our server and he promptly replaced it with a new bottle pour and he was appreciative that I brought it to their attention. No harm no foul by any means. It happens. Once again, you were at a brewery. Oh, and by the way. Your $9 glass of pinot was well within the standard restaurant markup of 3X. A normal bottle of said wine goes for right around $16 to $20 at the vineyard or local store. Do I need to do some math? 750ml=25.4oz. 5oz pour=approximately 5 glasses a bottle. Needless to say, they poor a bit heavy IMO. 5x9=$45. 16x3=$48. 20x3+$60. In fact, that is a pretty good price for a great local wine. Strike three revoked. Strike 4: The Food. Not much selection? Did you only read the appetizer section? They have a HUGE selection of great food. Of course apps are somewhat bar food, but with a great twist. Let me guess, you got nachos and loaded potatoes. Did you try any of the salmon? Wild Sockeye I might add. The best I have had in Boise, bar-none. An extensive menu with so many choices. Burgers, salads, entrees, wraps, and more. Delicious sauces made in house. The basil vinaigrette is to die for! Oh, and try the jalapeno popper egg rolls. Decadent, creamy deliciousness. Strike 4 revoked. In conclusion. You can read a Yelp review and believe what it says, or you can just go try it yourself and be a critic too. I have been a bit critical as well, but with good merit in this certain situation. Keep doing what you're doing Sockeye. I hope I have shed some light on how useful or not useful this website can be. (I hope they don't delete my review because of that comment!) Stay local my friends!
