The fish is always fresh. The people are friendly. The service is good. The seating at the counter or outside is best. If you get to hear Shige sing Happy Birthday to a diner, you will experience something never to be forgotten. The decor needs some updating and refreshing but we never let that stop us from going for our sushi fix every week.

The sushi at Shige was just fine, no more or less. We tried 5 different rolls and they were more or less bland and had very little flavor. The fish was fresh and the service was friendly but we are still looking for a favorite sushi spot.

Went to Shige to spend a livingsocial this weekend and found it very underwhelming. There isn't really a hostess' station when you walk in--you walk right into the bar. We sat at the bar to wait for a table and got basically forgotten. The bar sits between the higher-end steakhouse side and the teppanyaki. Although the bar is nice, it's cold because it is near the door. We weren't really wanting to just hangout at the bar, but apparently that wasn't clear because I saw a group walk in after us get seated before we did. When they finally got around to acknowledging us, the only seats left at the teppanyaki side were with another group. We decided to take the only remaining table on the steakhouse side. The problem with the table was it was right next to the door and was freezing when people walked in. The waitress taking care of us was clearly frantic that we had been ignored for so long (her attempts to correct the situation are the only reason they get 2 stars). They were VERY understaffed on the steakhouse side--I think our waitress was actually supposed to be working at the teppanyaki side (the problems with this became apparent later). I actually saw the couple next to us get up and walk out after they placed a drink order. Since our waitress knew we were really hungry by this time, she put a rush on our food. The problem with this was it all came at once. She basically stood over us, forcing us to finish our oysters, so she could fit other food on our table. Then, the rest of my food all came at once (salad and dinner) while everyone else at the table kept waiting. When my boyfriend's pork chops came, they were VERY over-cooked. He really wanted to send them back, but our waitress never came back to check on us. It was very frustrating to spend so much on dinner and have basically everything about it be terrible. I've now tried all of the three Shige restaurants in the building and wouldn't recommend any of them.

We went to the tepinyaki part of the restaurant and had a really nice time. It's small - only maybe four tables, so make a reservation. Dinner took awhile, but it's tepinyaki, and for a date night slow is kind of nice. The chef was personable and put on a good show for us, and the food was delicious and not too expensive (about $20 each for ribeye steaks or filet).
