Was out and about with my wife looking for somewhere different to eat. Found this gem on accident but so glad we did. Best pho I have had lately.

Food was good service was extremely slow and terrible. Left before bill was presented. We left money on table because it took so long. Use caution when here. Might take a hour to see your bill and use caution if msg makes you feel bad,

It isn't fancy, but service is great and they are quick. Perfect place for a fast, tasty, hot meal.

We absolutely love this place and come at least 2-3 times a month! We'd probably come more often if we had the time. A small bowl is plenty and we love the fresh cilantro, basil, lime, and sprouts that always come with the pho. Ann is sweet, just don't get frustrated with her English. Sometimes you end up waiting for the check if they get busy, but don't let that deter you from enjoying the pho.

The food was decent, not the greatest Vietnamese food I have had. The service was a bit slow as well.

Awesome! Great food and awesome service! The BBQ chicken soup is great! The husband and wife team are so cute and so accommodating! We will be back.

Always delicious! The egg rolls are very good. Love the sauces on the table- they add lots of flavor at your own discretion. The waitress is super sweet and always recognizes us.

Bad Luck. Our food was given to another table, and we got theirs. Too bad we got the short end of the stick. I love Pho and I came here to try Pho Bac. I ended up with someone else's vegetarian Pho, packed with frozen veggie medley broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower. It had little flavor, and zero beef. The lady offered to add meat to it when I complained, but adding beef to veggie soup would not have turned it into proper Pho - the broth was wrong. She later indicated that she could replace the entire bowl of Pho - about halfway through the meal- but the damage was done. The veggie pho was dreadful and I advise against it. I eat vegetarian often during the week and this was just not good veggie fare. The vegetables were all mushy. My wife fared better than I did, her food was pretty tasty. It was the special - stir fried filet, and it had good flavor. The cha gio was ok, if unadorned, but the saving grace was the iced coffee. If you try this place, get the coffee. The lady desperately wanted to make things better, but adding beef to vegetarian Pho is not a good solution. She did remove the pho from the ticket. It is a Mom and pop place, so hopefully they get organized and succeed.

4 stars for the food I'm from SoCal where pho places are everywhere b/c we Vietnamese ppl are going to take over...with our pho...yeah...slowly but surely it'll happen! If you've never had pho, this would be the place to try it! Craving pho after a long flight on a cold day, Yelp led me here. I ordered PD (pho bac dac biet - house special basically) and it totally hit the spot! Everything tasted fresh and the broth was seasoned really well. Other things I ordered were also tasty: crab ragoons, spring rolls, and bun thit nuong (grilled pork with rice noodles). The extra star is because the service here was better than any Asian place I've ever been to. The owner, co Dao, was extremely friendly and was so diligent in ensuring I had everything I needed to enjoy my food. She and a friend of hers eating at the restaurant both struck up a conversation with me when they realized I spoke Vietnamese and they were just so nice. It definitely made me more of a fan of this place. She even gave me coconut cookies for the road! How awesome is that?!

This place makes some good pho. It's also the only Pho place in Boise that has well done brisket as an option (my favorite). The ingredients that come with the soup (basil, sprouts, lime, jalapeno, cilantro) are fresh and plentiful. I have had better (reason for 4 stars, not 5), but it was in San Francisco, so... I've also been super impressed with how the to go orders have everything you need to have a wonderful bowl at home (broth, noodles, meat/veggies, toppings, sauces, chop sticks, napkins), all nicely separated for freshness. You should call in an order to go.

For those of us who have lived in Boise for a while, we've seen certain restaurant locations fail over and over again. The sandwich shop that was a pizza place last year and a Mexican place before that and a deli before that. So when Pho Bac first hoisted their temporary banner on the corner of Glennwood and Goddard, I had my doubts. Two years later, the temporary sign has been replaced with something permanent, the menu has expanded, and a curious flat screen animated waterfall graces the bathroom. And in that time span, Pho Bac has shown that it has what it takes to turn a failing location into a gem. If you're familiar with Pho, then you know the drill. The Sriracha, Hoisin and Fish Sauces are just as key as the broth itself. But the made-from-scratch broth is where Pho Bac shines. The beef broth takes all night to make, and the process used to extract flavor from the beef bones is something that the owners have been perfecting for some time. The aroma of star anise, cloves and cardamom intertwine, and once you've ripped and tossed your basil leaves into the mix, you're transported to another world. This mom and pop shop is the real deal. After several visits, Ann and her husband will begin to feel like family. Family can be awkward, and this one is no exception. Sometimes the service is attentive. Sometimes - usually during the dinner rush - you might wait a while. But that's all part of the charm. There's nothing fancy going on here. This is comfort food, after all. But the place is clean and pleasant, and if you're one to smile when you see Christmas decorations in July, you'll find this place quaint and comfortable. Ann and her husband work hard to give you the best experience they can, and it shows. This is hands down the best Pho in Boise, and their other dishes are just as good. The food is always fresh and full of flavor, and the warm smiles are always genuine. What more could you want in a neighborhood Pho spot?

Love this place!! We try to go here at least once a week if time permits. Our favorite is the PD, it's the best pho we've had on Boise!! Ann (she and her husband run this place) is very warm and friendly. Oh! And did I mention the coffee is amazing too!!

Another excellent New Years Day lunch. Pho is clearly the best in town and goi cuon (fresh rolls) are excellent. They ran out of sprouts for the pho but graciously brought a side of additional noodles. Folks that run Pho Bac clearly earn their business.

Nice little no frills place with high-quality, authentic Vietnamese food. Had the spring rolls and pho with brisket and top sirloin. The spring rolls were okay, the pho was as good as I've had anywhere. The owner made it worth driving there: very attentive, steering me through the menu, bringing me extra basil (best part!) without having to ask for it, etc. In a nutshell: good, healthy food; great service; fast-food cheap. What more could you ask for?!

WOW this was great. I'm from Reno and come to Boise every few months and will come here on EVERY visit. All I can say is WOW....... To start we had Spring Rolls. They were large and amazing. I had P1 eye of round steak Pho Bac and the broth was outstanding. WOW. My boyfriend had P3 and he was sooooo happy. (see my photos) The husband and wife team makes this a winner. Thank you Pho Bac.

I've been wanting to try this place since it opened. Cindi has been avoiding it like the plague because of a bad experience with pho at The Sushi Bar in McCall (it was cold and flavorless, the meat was raw, and it was quite expensive). Fortunately, the food here was fantastic, plentiful, and cheap. We did have a slight hiccup at the beginning: Ann (part of the husband/wife team that owns the place) took our order during a particularly busy period. After 15 minutes she came by and seemed surprised that we hadn't received our food yet, then reacted with abject horror when she realized she had forgotten to turn in our order. She apologized profusely, and our food came about 10 minutes later with another apology from the person who delivered it. Cindi had the well done brisket, I had the combo eye of round steak and brisket. Both were served piping hot, and the flavor was outstanding. Cindi thought the brisket was a little fatty, but I think that's just the nature of brisket. If you like lean, go with the eye of round steak, although it's a bit less flavorful than the brisket. We also had the Vietnamese egg rolls, which were crispy, flavorful, and fresh. Ann brought us some complementary crab rangoon, and although we already had far too much to eat, I must say they were the best I've had -- steaming hot, crisp, and bursting with cream cheese and crab (a far cry from what you get in a typical Chinese restaurant). When we paid our bill, Ann again apologized for the delay. When Cindi told her how good the coconut coolies she brought with our check were, Ann asked offered to give her some to take home! The only thing holding me back from giving this place 5 stars is the decor, which is a bit spartan. But for the money, I don't think you can do better. And Ann and her husband are sweethearts. I highly recommend a visit.

Spring rolls fresh, full of flavor. Service was like I was a guest in their home and made us feel welcome and important. They are getting ready to change the restaurant so not up to par on the clean factor. We will come back in October after all the work is done. All in all a great place.

The third time was the charm apparently. Now they're back on my good side. I don't know if it was due to the somewhat unconventional hat I wear or if I'm one of those rare people to request raw meat be left off to the side so I can control how rare/cooked my meat is, but I was quite shocked how the wife of the husband/wife team remembered me and wondered where I had been given it had been about five months since I was last there. I went with the pho dac biet (item code Pd on the menu) and was quite happy to see tripe in it. Apparently enough people asked for tripe for it to be included on the menu. However this was done at the expense of tendon, which was complained about enough for it to be taken off of the menu. People in Boise request tripe but gripe about tendon? I just find that fairly bizarre. Anyway the menus haven't been updated to point this out. The broth was as good as my first visit and needed zero tweaking apart from adding the provided condiments. And the noodles were evenly cooked. I'm going to assume my second visit was an aberration and that this is the way their pho is normally presented. I assured the wife that I would try and be back on a semi-regular basis, but Pho Bac is admittedly a bit out of the way for me. Pho Tam is more convenient and their broth is just as good. However, as previously stated, the service at Pho Bac is head and shoulders above what I've had to deal with at Pho Tam. And it was also nice to see them busy at a time when traffic is usually dead at restaurants (on a Saturday around 3:00).

This place is great and I go there even though it is out of my way -- it's that good. The first time I went was on a weekday after the lunch crowd and I was the only person there. I was treated like I was a guest at their house and served with such curtesy and friendliness. I've had several dishes here, but I always go back to pho and fresh rolls. Everything is always fresh and delicious. Even though the atmosphere isn't the best, it is very clean, everyone is friendly, and the food is so good that I'm giving it 5 stars. Instead of a burger and fries, try Pho Bac and you won't be sorry!!

Hands down the most hospitable restaurant I have been to in Boise. I have come twice just as they were closing, and both times they insisted we come in. The husband and wife are both so friendly. They always make my wife and I (and Tom V.) feel so welcome. The pho is excellent. The prices are the best in town. I have had nothing but wonderful experiences at Pho Bac.

  • Vlad B.

Egg rolls aren't bad. Dirty silverware. No lemongrass. Chincy veggie portions. Slimy bean sprouts. No Chili paste. Fish sauce makes the whole restaurant smell like rancid sweat. Bugs in the windows.

Pretty good pho! I could go for a bit more sprouts w a large tho.

First time my father or I myself had Pho. My father was very worried about trying something new, but we both absolutely loved it. Would highly recommend to any non-vegetarian.

Just moved from CA and I have to say this Pho was pretty good. I just got the basic Pho Tai. My only knock was meat was completely cooked through by the time it came out. Owner was very nice and friendly, offered some cookies at the end of the meal, but we were too full. Planning to return after checking out other places.

One of my favorite restaurants in Boise. Friendly service and delicious food. You gotta try the Beef Filet Mignon (only dinner or weekend)!

I have no clue how I've gone so long without knowing they were here. Stopped in today, by chance and WOW~ fantastic! I know where I'll be visiting more often in the future. This is also conveniently located to the office, which really helps. LOVE THIS PLACE!!!

The pho is really good here. The broth isn't oily like some places and overall everything was super fresh. Simple menu and the prices for the entrees are just right. What kills it is the prices of their appetizers. $6.50 really is excessive for 5 smallish egg rolls. They also seem to be inclined to skimp on the little things like the fish sauce for the egg rolls. You get what seems to look like a teaspoon in a relatively deep dipping bowl. Your eggrolls will do alittle swimming in there before you get any significant amount of sauce on the thing. You might also want to order a bowl with a mix of meats because if you just order with eye round steak, it's like they give you the same amount of eye round you get when you order a meatball mix. They don't really compensate by giving you a little more while you pay the same amount.

I had the BBQ pork with vegetables over vermicelli noodles. It tasted really good. The vegetables were fresh and the BBQ is cooked on site. Arlene was very friendly and gave us good service. Can't wait to come back and try more from the menu.

This little restaurant near Capital High School serves homemade pho and a variety of rolls. The menu is fairly limited at the moment -- pho tai, pho tai nam, pho tai nam gan, pho tai nam bo vien, and so on. The broth is rich without being thick or over-sweet. The sliced beef is obviously hand-sliced, and the meatballs are delicious. Don't expect much in the way of decorations or ambience. However, these things are part of the authentic pho experience, to me -- lots of sauces on the formica tables, plenty of napkins, and mom and pop in the kitchen cooking. Decoration takes a backseat to food here. The rolls are excellent, not relying too heavily on rice noodles for filler, using lettuce and bright mint instead. Try the shrimp, Chinese sausage, and egg rolls! They're a wonderful riff on traditional goi cuon. Pho Bac also serves a variety of drinks other than the standard water, soda, and hot tea. The iced Vietnamese coffee is delicious. Excellent food, authentic atmosphere -- absolutely five stars from me.

Not much for ambiance and flash, but it's a great nonetheless. The owner could not have been more gracious as I stopped in for lunch on a rainy day. The hot Vietnamese coffee was delicious and I was quite satisfied the Pd with everything. I will be back to support this business.

Read the reviews and decided to try it out. Thankfully I did. I have only had Pho at a Vietnamese friends house and loved it. The Pho here was just as terrific. Service was really good as they kept my drinks filled at all times. As mentioned in previous posts, just a little hole in the wall restaurant with very little for ambiance. I thought the prices were fair and overall had a wonderful experience. Will definitely be going back and bringing some people with me. I love good local restaurants. I knew it would be good when 75% of the crowd were Vietnamese.

The food was horrible! The entire restaurant smelled of nasty fish and the pork tasted as if it had been cooked days prior. YUCK! Will never be eating there again :(

We're a fan of vietnamese food - from Thailand, LA and Pocatello, Idaho. We ordered the fresh spring rolls - yummy. Daughter had the vegeatable beef pho - she loved it. We had the vermicelli and bbq pork - excellent to the last drop. Simple menu, great service as well as good food at the right price. We'll be back.

This place is amazing. Their pho is delicious and so as the egg rolls. The service is great. The owners wife is very friendly and makes my husband and I feel at home. I do recommend eating pho here because this even beats the upscale pho place in downtown boise. The flavor is amazing. BEST PHO PLACE IN THE TREASURE VALLEY.

Pho is better than some local vietnamese places.

My wife and I stopped here for the first time and we loved it! We've recently moved to this area and we are sure to make this our go to spot. I had the P7 and my wife had the P10, the broth is full of flavor and the noodles were cooked just right. Great value for money as well. Would have paid a lot more for the flavor and quality of the food. Service is also fantastic, everyone was very welcoming.

It's probably more like 4.5 really but I want this place to do well so I'll round up. This is the best pho I've been able to find in Boise by far. The broth was excellent and the amount of meat and noodles you got were more than fair. Everything was fresh and portions were large. The owner, a husband and wife are very nice, though their English is sometimes hard to understand. Both times we've been though, the wife has been a little shy and a bit standoffish but very friendly and kind. The food can be a little slow so I would try to allow plenty of time for yourself to eat. The quality is worth it. I really want this place to do well. It would be a shame for the best pho in the region to go away. If you're a "phonatic" for pho, give this place a visit.

  • Mallorie G.

I have never wished a place would close until I came here. The sever walked away while I was mid order. I didn't even have a chance to say, "vegetarian egg rolls." so, my noodle dish was purely rice noodles with basil on top. Somehow this is a meal. She also dropped off the check with my food and never asked a thing. Walking away while someone is mid-order isn't a cultural barrier, it's someone not caring whatsoever. I basically paid $9 to look at my "meal". I usually give places a few times before I make up my mind...but this is ridiculous.

Pho. Excellent pho with no frills. Friendly and very kind host. This is the best Pho in Boise.

    (4)
  • Roger T.

This is actually the lamest pho i've ever had. The place was empty.@ lunchtime, which should have told me something. No beansprouts, chilis, or basil was offered with the soup which just tasted thrown together. The asian gent who came in after me got sprouts etc... so i can just surmise the lady was just judging i wouldn't miss them. The broth was a nice piping temperature but wholly unremarkable.

Great service and great food. This place is family owned and operated and they treat each customer like family. They are always so nice and friendly. Food is delivered fast and fresh to my table every time! The best pho I have had in Boise with an environment that keeps me coming back. Portions are huge and prices are great.

  • Jordan R.

Best pho .. Period Good service. Don't be in a rush and you will have a better experience. If you are used to having a "fast food " experience go else where. This food is cooked to order. And it shows in the QUALITY!!!!!. First Taste the broth I tasted beefy deep nutmeg nuttiness and would have been quite satiated . Then, spice it to the desired level with the hoisin and Siraacha. It is a clean and hospitable environment. We ordered the small bowls and were quite satisfied. We had The P3( rib eye) & P6 (brisket and meatballs) I will be retuning!! A lot

  • Cass Tiegs T.

first time coming here, got the p3 & it was great! Service a little shakey but food came out really quick. I'd recommend it for sure

Pho Bac is a great lunch spot. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating. The P7 or P6 Pho Nam is filling but not overly so and absolutely delicious.

  • Autumn B.

The food and service are outstanding! Best Pho I've had and the fact that the lady ( I presume owner, older nice women) gave us a free cookie for dessert to which my greedy husband took like 4 was just the thing that made it charming enough to make me love the place. She treated us like family, very warm home-y atmosphere. Oh, and if you become addicted and order to go pho, rest assured they seal it up good for you in large containers that have never spilled in my car. So thoughtful they are!

  • Nic 'n Nan N.

Nic: This is not our first time at Pho Bac. The pho is good, but today I felt like eating something else. Tell me again what you were saying while we were waiting to put our order in. Ran: I said "This place is a Catch-22. You don't want to come here when you're hungry because the service is so slow. But you have to be pretty hungry to enjoy the food." Nic: That's right, that's what you said. The food was pretty bad. And the service was terribly slow. That poor lady. And poor us. Ran: Yeah, no kidding. You had square chicken. I've never seen square chicken before! Was it boiled in a bag? I noticed you took a picture. Nic: It was even worse. I think they portioned out cooked curry chicken meat in baggies and froze them. You know how chicken oozes that white goop when you cook it after it's been frozen? That's protein, that is. When I ordered the Peanut Chicken, they must have just pulled one from the freezer, thawed it in the microwave (correction per the owner, it's not microwaved but wrapped in foil and deep-fried) and put it on the plate. The meat was covered in protein goop. They did not even bother to loosen up the chunks of meat, it was just one flat, square chicken patty on top of a tasteless, soggy carrot-cauliflower-broccoli combo, next to the chilled white rice. Ran: Yum - not. I noticed your peanut sauce was basically cold, runny peanut butter. Nic: *sigh* Yup. Hey, let's talk about what you had! Ran: I had the Beef Filet with onions and potatoes. I thought it was edible. The beef was tender, and lucky for me, I like garlic more than most people, There was a lot of garlic! Nic: Yup. Lots of garlic. And a crunchy rice ball. That was good, if you like cream cheese. And you also had chilled white rice. What's up with that? Cold rice? It was not even cold as in room temp, it was cold as in cold-cold. Ran: The cha gio was from the freezer too. I think I saw them (clarification - the cha gio, not the owners of the restaurant) earlier today at the Asian store: twenty for five bucks. I kid you not. But besides that, what did you think about the service? That poor lady is severely understaffed. A good thing we weren't in a hurry! Nic: I saw two couples walking out before they could even order. I wonder if she's the waitress AND kitchen staff in one? That would explain the cold food, the frozen chicken and the loooooooooooooooong wait time. Ran: I think those couples had it right. Next time we go, let's get up and leave before we order, too! Nic: What do you mean, "next time"?? Ran: Good point.

This place was exceptional. I had never been here but always wondered if it was good. I was completely satisfied. Such a cute little restaurant, very clean and cozy. The older gentleman was the sweetest. I did not know they closed during the day for an hour and a half (3:30 to 5) so my clients and I decided to wait. He opened a few minutes early. Constantly checked in to make sure we were doing ok and if we needed anything. Just a very nice man. Food was amazing and we'll priced. Can't wait to come back! We went around 5 pm and I was kind of surprised there was no one else there, especially with all the great reviews. Fabulous everything, you must go! :)

Pho Bac is a little hole in the wall place with lots of seats and a very nice owner lady. When we arrived, we were seated quickly. it helped that there were only 2 other parties in the restaurant at the time, but that's beside the point. I ordered the Goi Cuon and Thai Tea and the hubby ordered the Com Thit Nuong. Both dishes were brought out within 10 min or so. I know that there are people that complained about the service being slow, but honestly, it's average for service, I think. The Goi Cuon was just like my mommy used to make: fat, a bit awkward looking, but yummy. I am a sucker for what I consider comfort food, so my opinion may be biased, but I'll be darned if I didn't say it tasted like home. There wasn't much dipping sauce, but you could always ask for more. But, if you're like me, just squeeze the every-loving snot out of the Sriracha bottle into the sauce and *BAM* DOUBLE THE SAUCE. The Thai Tea was really yummy. It's a bit on the sweet side for what I'm normally used to, but the flavor was like a partay in my mouf. Like FORREALLLLL~ I did not eat the Com Thit Nuong so I cannot say much about it. The hubby thought it was good. He said it was "bland" but the foo' didn't use the Nuoc Mam so I dunno what he was complaining about... (I KIDDDDD... just in case you read this: I LOVE YOU! xoxo) Service was excellent. :) It was really nice chatting with the owner lady person. She is sweet and always smiling, which is an awesome relief from most Vietnamese establishments in California. Not that the food isn't good in my home state... just that the service can some times make you want to throw plates, y'know? Anyway, it also didn't hurt that I speak Vietnamese so we talked like we were lost relatives without the awkwardness of a family get-together.

Still awesome place to eat. Priced well and the owner is so nice. She gave us cake because it was her 37th wedding anniversary. Best place in town!

Stopped by here for some Vietnamese noodles because of all the positive reviews. I'm not a picky eater but the food here was not good and tasted old. Not sure if they just reheated yesterdays left overs because they were slow. I came in during lunch time and there was just one patron beside myself. But my real complaint is that I was over charged. Suspicious that I was paying too much I grabbed a menu to check the price which the lady immediately said it was an old menu. I'm not sure what the deal was but if you advertise something for sale at one price and then charge another price it is considered bait and switch, and is illegal.

Pho Bac has the best Thai iced tea in Boise. Honestly, the best even compared to the many many Thai and Vietnamese restaurants I have been to in California. A humble, family owned establishment, they are quick and great for taking the family out. I've never had to wait in line or found the place full of people and loud. Pho Bac is one of Boise's hidden gems.

    (5)
  • Jonathan C.

Ok so the food is not the best Vietnamese I have had but it isn't horrible either especially for Idaho. But the service is very good and really encompass the "family" atmosphere of eating that exists in Vietnam. The menu is priced fairly. If you have a chance give this place a try.

  • Megan R.

I've been to this restuarant many times and I'm kind of surprised how many people complained about slow service. I have never had slow service here and their food has been absolutely delicious. I love their fresh rolls with shrimp. My husband and I once found a Coconut Curry Pho with chicken on the menu that was apparently a recipe made by the owner's daughter or son-in-law, I didn't catch which one of them made it up. It was amazing. I've never seen a Coconut Curry Pho before, but it was delicious. The last time we went in we didn't see it on the menu, but they still brought us out a couple of bowls when we asked about it. So, if you get a chance, totally ask for it. Their beef pho has always been good as well. I always recommend this place when people ask for something new and delicious to try that's not too expensive.

This place definitely has the best pho around! My husband and I absolutely LOVE it. Aside from the food, the family who own/operate this restaurant are amazing and unbelievably gracious. They treat you as if you are a guest in their home. The older lady even came over and fed my daughter. haha! It was fantastic! & just one of the many instances of great hospitality they've offered us. I always leave feeling satisfied. Full of yummy pho & happy to have spent money on a local (wonderful) family owned business!
