Not too bad. It's a cafe type place. I've been there twice, both for breakfast. Had spinach quiche once and bacon omelet the next time. Everything tasted good. Toast was overly done for my liking but not an issue. Note to self: ask for it lighter next time. It's a place worth trying.

Spur of the moment breakfast decision that we regretted. Should have known when we saw the ad for Cinco de Mayo Mexican lasagna on our way in. I'm pretty sure I ate undercooked pork sausage. My husband called his omelette the worst of his life. We will not go back.

Visiting family and they brought us here for breakfast, but we all decided to have lunch instead. The atmosphere is like stepping back in time - very retro but not necessarily in a good way - uncomfortable lumpy booths wit cheap vinyl tablecloths and PHONES to place your order. Weird yet quirky. They do need to have some sort of instructions for seating yourself and using the phone - but they take your drink order. Food - instead of getting a nice omelet, I found two things on the menu that were different - deep fried grilled cheese sandwich and carrot cake - not that carrot cake is different, but it claimed to be "world famous" and it was! Possibly the best I've ever had, very moist and flavorful but not too sweet - even with the cream cheese frosting - especially if you divide he cake in half and make it into a sort of cake "sandwich" with the frosting in the middle -yummy! The deep fried cheese sandwich was good but could be improved on by two things - more than one kind of cheese and use sourdough or rye bread instead - it would increase the flavor profile a tons. Others got the hand made burger and the meatloaf - all rave reviews. Their other specialty was the white bean soup - very good. It wasn't busy on this Monday afternoon but the service was NOT good. Let me say to each and every restaurant and server - you MUST MUST MUST come back and ask us if everything is okay. One order was wrong and my fries were barely warm - but how could we have it fixed then? And your tips reflect this lack.

Pros: Friendly staff, decent eats, retro decor Cons: Expensive food for the quality received My coffee was always full, food was average, and staff was friendly. Good place for a breakfast dining experience.

We ordered 2 different versions of egg Benedict off of the "specials menu". Both arrived barely lukewarm and with all overcooked eggs (despite the waitress confirming that we wanted them cooked soft). When we mentioned that it was cold, she did not seem concerned or offer to have the kitchen heat them up. Everything was bland and the fruit on the side seemed like previously frozen melon. Definitely won't be back.

Even though the servers are friendly, keeping a coffee cup full seems to be an issue. A breakfast place MUST KEEP THE COFFEE FLOWING. Yet, it is Sunday morning an there isn't an empty seat. The breakfast was solid. Not the best I've ever had but good and solid. But, as I said, servers would zip by asking if you want coffee and leave before you had a chance to answer. This is a deal killer for me. 2 Stars for empty coffee cups.

The venue has tremendous potential, but the decor is uninspired. I love retro architecture, so the building, parking lot, and location are it's strongest points to me. My waitress was very nice, though I can see how a wait staff of only three can seem a bit slow when the place is busy; it was quite slow for a Saturday morning when I visited. The regular menu items rival my favorite Boise diners on price, and the owner was a friendly gentleman. Not bad, but not the best.

A Retro Delight The Pantry is an authentic 70s restaurant right out of Starsky and Hutch, Marcus Welby, or Kojak. You could picture any of those guys sitting next to your grandpa while eating a good old- fashioned American meal. The atmosphere and service match up to good old-fashioned expectations. I had a burger and fries. The fries were cut from real potatoes and cooked to perfection. The burger was made not from a frozen patty, but fresh ground beef. It was very good. The second time, I had a French dip sandwich and was very pleased. The service is excellent, and I suggest going there for lunch so that you can order your meal via the phone that hangs at each table. This is a blast into the past, and these restaurants are quickly disappearing. Make sure you wear your Converse All-Stars and your jeans to contribute to your own retro experience. You won't be disappointed with your meal or your experience. This restaurant closes at 3:00 PM--Not open for dinner. _______________ I went back there recently and wasn't very impressed. I'd still recommend it for an average lunch or dinner with retro appeal.

I've tried this place twice now and will not be going back. My biscuits and gravy were tasteless and already congealed when delivered. It took almost an hour to get our food. I ordered chicken the time before and it was still pink in the middle. They quickly reheated it, but it was still not a great experience. The diner itself is sort of fun, but that's not enough for me, especially when there are other places in town with better food and comparable atmosphere.

This place is an institution -- a MENTAL institution! Food, Rotting on the plate; service, everything we ordered was WRONG! When we sat down, we found french-fries from a previous customer all over the booth seat. Then a waitress come to your table, but doesn't take your order, just the drink order. You have to pick up a telephone to make your order...and wait 5 min before it even rings in the kitchen. Then you can't even hear the person on the other end, she took our order by hearing us shout it across the room. She asked me my drink order, I thought we already did that?! doesn't matter, the first waitress was a farce. Both of them got the simple drink order wrong 2 times! The pickle that came with the rancid sandwich was literally rotten. It had a hole in it and was half brown. The fries and onion-rings were frozen and uncooked. the hamburger didn't even taste like meat! HORRIBLE, if you don't want to blast to the past - mean food left over from the past! DON'T GO HERE!!!

My boyfriend and I swung in here yesterday (Saturday) morning on our way home from a staycation, after finding our favorite place packed (and not wanting to fight the downtown breakfast crowd). I used to live nearby, so I've driven by this place and have always wanted to check it out, especially since it always seems to be busy. If I had read the Yelp reviews first (which I normally ALWAYS do), we probably would have opted for IHOP or something over this place. The place was pretty busy, but there were a few open tables. When we walked in, we awkwardly stood at the counter until a waitress finally told us to seat ourselves. It might seem silly, but there really should be a sign! You never know with these kind of places, and we felt pretty uncomfortable while we waited for instruction. As she walked with us in the direction of the open table we spotted, she let us know that on weekdays you order with the phone, but on the weekends there is a waitress - and ours would be right with us. The venue is actually pretty cool, as I love vintage places. The execution with decor was a major flop, however. My boyfriend commented that it looked like the place used to be a big show room of some sort, and I have to agree. The front counter is a glass display shelf, and the kitchen area/kitchen window is awkwardly laid out. The old booths, while clearly from the 1970's, were mush more dingy than "eclectic" or "vintage." The phones on the walls were dirty and clearly don't get cleaned well or often - if ever. The booth behind us (a big corner booth) was missing the entire seat! There was an "Out of Order" sign on the table that has clearly been there a while. To top it off, the tables all had a vinyl table cloth on them - you know, the kind with the padding on the bottom? Immediately I could smell the cigarette smoke that was lingering in the coverings from days when smoking in a restaurant was the norm. Yuck. Our service was spotty, and she asked us multiple questions two or three times because she kept forgetting what we said. We ended up having two waitresses rotating our table, which I'm not a fan of. The place isn't huge, but they really could have had another waiter or two. The table behind us had to request a coffee refill more than once. The food was just okay. Nothing special, but probably not the worst I've had. I had the chicken friend steak and was happy the steak was cooked thoroughly, but my gravy was a bit lukewarm. My boyfriend and I both had eggs, and neither of us were impressed with them. Couldn't put my finger on what was off, though. Overcooked maybe? They were a little rubbery. My hashbrowns were okay. They weren't very crispy, and were not very warm inside. Pretty tasteless, too. For the quality of the food, I was disappointed with the prices. Pretty much the same as what you'd pay at IHOP, Denny's or Moon's, but much less quality. All in all, I'm not very impressed, but wasn't totally disappointed either. Will probably be last on my list to re-visit, though.

Have eaten here eaten here several times at this retro place for Breakfast and never, ever disappointed, recently had a Pantry hamburger for lunch and surprised as to the burger, it was not a frozen patty but a fresh hand made burger, I spoke to the owner and he stated it was RR Ranch premium beef. To me it was a comparable to 5 guys burgers or any high end burger in Boise. Only reason I took out one star was interior seating could be updated, but the location next to the river is nice.
