What a great find for breakfast........got shut out of another spot and decided to give Juniper a try. We had 4 different menu items-each one was hit. Lamb hash had plenty of lamb delicious spices, pancakes and bacon were solid, grilled cheese and fries tasty, biscuits and gravy was outstanding. The food was great and the prices were outstanding. I would suggest you give them a try............there are some really interesting menu items beside what we had.

I'm giving this place 2 stars for the simple fact that a lot of items are local. Other than that I would give this place 1 star. The service at the bar was as if a stoic gargoyle was asking for your order then forgetting about you. No smile, no pleasantries, nothing. As I looked around on a Saturday afternoon, I saw more employees than I did customers. But, non of them seemed to think service was a big priority. Texting, Facebook, and talking amongst each other at the host stand was very apparently priority #1. As we sat at the bar remembering the last business in this location (Opa/Cazba) we realized, its nothing like it was. No friendly owner walking about, asking how everyone was. No warm atmosphere... It all seemed, "up its own ass". It is a modern American style cuisine but it seems to have taken the form of an 18 year old girl. Pretentious and snide. Not like it was. As we made our way out the door 2 hostesses were leaning on the host stand and chatting amongst themselves. We made it through the door and out of the establishment completely without one person saying one word or even look in our direction. Not a single thank you, have a good night, or even a thanks for coming in. Pathetic. I will not be coming back but will be remembering the good ol' days of OPA/ Cazba.

Service started a bit slow but as soon as she got to us she was spot on and very attentive. I had the hipster and my husband had a gin and tonic - drinks were strong and delish. We also ordered the spicy pickles and then the bison meatballs. Pickles were soft and tasted more bread and butter than spicy. Meatballs lacked some flavor and texture. A few tweaks would make this place really great. Drinks are perfect - we will try again and come back for happy hour.

Loved the burger with egg and chicken sandy. Had a gin mojito that was awesome also-and I didn't think I liked gin. I didn't love the candied pecans - a little soggy. Great ambiance and service.

Where to begin! We ended up at this place not too long ago, the prices were great and the atmosphere was even better. We were helped by a knowledgable staff who knew the menu well. We were somewhat hesitant to order dinner right off the bat since there was plenty to choose from so we started with the pretzels and two cocktails. The Mojito was good in size and price and the Moscow mule was decent. Not the strongest amounts of alcohol present but the taste was all there. The pretzels were really good and the sauces that came with them were just as good. It was their take on boring cheese and mustard sauces. I believe the cheese was infused with beer and the mustard was home made. As far as dinner went I chose the burger and my date chose the steak salad. I substituted my fries for the honey glazed carrots. My burger was excellent, although next time I will eat it with a fork and knife because it ended up getting out of control near the end. The carrots were a good surprise definitely different almost reminded me of sweet yams. The salad was good, it had a good variety of greens and fruit, and the steak was cooked just as we ordered it. We room a peek at the dessert menu and also were told about brunch being served in the future. I am looking forward to taking my friends out to juniper for the rest of the summer.

I heard good things so wanted to check out Juniper. The ambiance is nice- good lighting, comfortable seating, music not too loud. The menu is quite small, especially for the starters. We chose the meatballs (bison), which were quite good, and the cheese plate was adequate, but could have been thought out better, pickled grapes (ehh), candied nuts, average bread, and cheese. The steak salad was tasty, but way overdressed, and mushy. The hamburger with egg was a fail all the way around. Bland, dry tasting meat, egg was over cooked-hard boiled, and the bun was English muffin type bread, definitely needs a rework. On the upside, the service was good and waitstaff friendly, and the location is perfect. I will go back when they iron out some if the menu kinks and give it another try.

We took our out of state family to dinner here and they could not get over how wonderful it was. Service was perfect, food delicious and atmosphere cozy and just right. We love it!

I recently returned and enjoyed it as much as the first time! The wait staff was kind and professional. The food was once again memorable and left my mouth watering! Highly recommended ! My favorite fine dinning in Boise!

This place had great food, great cocktails, and great service. I thought the atmosphere was awesome. Very shocked to not see it busy. I would definitely recommend it! Also a lot of locally sourced ingredients and local wine and beer. Thumbs up!

Stopped here while I was in Boise for a short stay. Food was great, but what really stands out about Juniper is the creative cocktail menu featuring gin. So many cocktail menus just feature vodka, which is pretty flavorless. I was in town professionally so I couldn't go nuts trying all the different cocktails, but I did have one with gin and then I had them make me a Lavender Lemonade without the vodka and it was very yummy and creative. Definitely recommend this place.

This place is a fucking joke. My friend just asked for ranch dressing for her fries, and the waiter said, "Oh. We don't mayonnaise based dressings. But your fries are gluten free." I'm sorry, but are you kidding me?????? You're gluten free with French fries and in a bar? Well, congratulations!! I will never darken this door again, because of this ridiculous notion "healthy". Your French fries are gluten free?? Wow. Amazing. Guess what, numbnuts, potatoes don't have gluten. You didn't do anything special to make this happen. Just retarded. And on top of everything else, the side of fries was about the size of a small serving of McDonald's fries. Nice job everyone here. You're done. Everyone, go to Mai Thai .... or anywhere else. This place and their servers are dead to me.

A friend and I were appetizer hopping on Saturday night and decided to check out Juniper. SO glad we did. It has a very modern/hipster feel and even tho we were in casual clothes we did not feel out of place at all. It has cool tables & lights. Shoutout to our waitress Sarah. She was great. Very informative & helpful as we searched thru the menu for a while. She explained that they make their own tonic and when I asked he about the cocktails that have the eggs in them she talked me into trying one. SO glad i did! I was super skeptical but it was actually really good. The Boise fizz or something like that. Thanks Sarah for making our first time here very memorable & a place we look forward to coming back to!

Third time here but first review, wanted to average the visits out but every time it has been fantastic. Moscow mule was made with house made ginger beer, love the slight ginger burn as it goes down. Had pickles and olives, pickles being cured in-house. I love the attention to everything being made fresh with a local emphasis, down to the proletariat wine. Lamb Reuben was better than many pastrami that I have had. Give this place a go!

Went here for a friend's birthday. There were 8 of us in the party, I was the first to arrive, six minutes before or reservation. They were kind enough to seat me early. But while I waited, the manager asked if I really had that many friends meeting me for dinner. Totally and completely unprofessional. The rest of the party arrived. Our server was very attentive and provided excellent service. That's about the best thing I cam say about this place. The food was underwhelming, at best. I ordered the smoked salmon linguine. While the sauce had decent flavor, the texture of the flaked salmon mixed in detracted from the overall dish. It would have been much better if it were a salmon fillet (and they could up the list price by $5-6 and people would still pay it). While service can make or break a restaurant, they need to have a quality product to sell. This place just does not live up to the hype. Go to Ruth Chris' instead.

Juniper is awesome. It's a bright spot for Boise. The food is pretty much always great and playful (the one time it wasn't was when they had a new person on sauté), the service is excellent, and the vibe is right in line with how I like to feel. ALL the servers are great. Having said that, we love Bridgette (sp?). She's very warm and friendly, and she only adds to our experience. Keep it up guys!

The Bloody Marys here are head and shoulders better than anything anywhere else in Boise! Lucifer's Hangover with a side of Human Despair was perfectly spicy and sweet and tangy but not at all too spicy for my taste. I really really liked it and want to come back here soon. The smoked salmon scramble was very good but the eggs seemed a little undercooked. That being said it might be the bernaise that seemed a little funny. The ricotta lemon raspberry donuts were also delightful and it was a great way to get the day started while people watching near the farmer's market.

I have been to Juniper 3 times now, and can say that overall has been a wonderful experience. The food is delicious and reasonable. The drinks are quite well made. The interior is gorgeous and has a feel of a Older European restaurant, instead of a fairly new one in Boise Idaho. If you are able, I highly recommend going here during happy hour. Several of their signature drinks are all on special, and of the several that I have tried, I have enjoyed every one of them. The two favorites being the Moscow Mule, and the Greyhound. Another wonderful thing about going in during happy hour is their somewhat hidden happy hour food menu. It is in a bit of strange location on the menu, but offers lots of great deals perfect for either pairing with your drink, or having for late night snack with friends gathered around outside. Their house burger is delicious and tastes of all fresh ingredients. I also greatly enjoyed the refreshing change of serving the burger on a house made English muffin. Although strange at first, it compliments the burger quite well. Their fries are also quite delicious. If you are looking for an appetizer, I suggest the pretzels, which are just filling enough but not too much to spoil your dinner, and also are served with two delicious sauces. One of these was a beer cheese which was wonderful and every time we have ordered it, we found it is quickest to disappear. Although most of our experiences have been wonderful, when this place gets packed, they become quickly overwhelmed, this results in some longer wait times, and a very stressed bartender. Additionally, they offer live music which can be hit and miss depending on the mood you'd like. If you want to go for some good folk music, it is wonderful, the only problem is in the small locale it becomes overwhelmingly loud especially if you are trying to converse with friends. If you can bare the wait, and are with good company, there really is no worry at all. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite places in Boise for cocktails. Give it a try, you will be glad you did! Ps: if you want to try a Moscow Mule but don't like Vodka, try a Kentucky mule, which is identical but made with bourbon in lieu of vodka. Cheers

This review of Juniper is going to center around the sun --- I mean their bloody mary. First off, the name is Lucifer's Hangover. I was already sold. But reading on one can see one of the featured ingredients is Human Despair. Ok, double sold. If you like spicy, and I mean like Scoville heat units 100,000+ then this is the bloody mary for you. It definitely is for me.

Delicious. First time here- great atmosphere and service. Had the lavender lemonade which was insanely good and reminded me a bit of an Long Island iced tea. We had fried pickles which were yummy and mussels and clams. The salmon linguini is to die for and the grilled cheese is sooooooo good. Price point is perfect. Big fan!!!

I was really unimpressed with Juniper's food. We grabbed drinks and appetizers here, and it was not good at all. The service was fine & the restaurant is beautiful, but it just is really subpar when it comes to the food. I would not eat here again.

Great atmosphere... and right in the heart of downtown Boise. You can eat inside or outside. Great mixed drinks that are refreshing and unique. We had two kinds. The fried olives were kind of strange... but ok. Our meals were yummy. Didn't have dessert. Very nice time... busy place, friendly staff. We will return.

The atmosphere is chill and the food is fantastic. They have options for vegans, gluten-free diets and the food tastes fresh. Although I am not a vegan, I ordered the vegan mushroom/barley burger which was very tasty. The waitress said their ketchup is made in house and although another member of my party said they couldn't tell a difference, I was able to taste a difference. It was delicious. I wouldn't ever imagine paying for a cheese sandwich but their cheese sandwich, isn't just any cheese sandwich, they make it with pears and I the bit I tasted was super tasty and yummy. I Absolutely plan on returning.

Went in for dinner last night for the first time. We always give new restaurants a little bit of time to get the kinks sorted out before we try. My husband and I each ordered a cocktail and we shared the duck confit spring rolls, the Juniper salad, and the stuffed chicken breast. Other than the cocktails, none of the food items were very good. The sauce for the spring rolls is totally overbearing, but without it the rolls are very dry. The salad was so underwhelming. Lots of plain lettuce and very under-dressed. The chicken was really, really over cooked and dry, the side of mashed potatoes was cold. I might return for drinks, but their food leaves much to be desired.

Juniper is the place I would go to if I couldn't get a table at fork, bitter-creek, Matador, Ruth's cris, flat bread, and even the tap house. If i was the owner I would cut my losses and just turn it into a classy bar. The burger I ordered was awful the bun it was served on was a joke if was basically an English muffin with over cooked meat on it. Don't even get me stated on the temping of food I always order steak salmon and burgers medium rare to ensure I have a delicious juicy burger to bite into when they brought it out I thought it was a joke it was awful discolored and everything. I sunk my teeth into the excuse and came to the realization that my burger wasn't just cooked passed medium rarebit was over well done I did not get the warm salty delicious juices expected from a burger I received a dry sponge.

Had a late lunch here. Felt like doing a bit of comfort food. Place delivers. Menu isn't enormous, but it has just enough to hit most cravings. Nice preparation. Focus is local source. Presentation clean and simple. Appreciate the wine selection by the glass. Ambience is sort of urban cool upcycle. We decided to make this a regular haunt.

The drinks were great!...But the food was okay and the ambiance wasn't good. It was so dark, our party had to pull out our phones and use the flashlights to see the menu. The music was pretty loud, too; We could hardly hear our waitress (when we even saw her). My free-range burger tasted off. All around, it was an okay experience. But I probably won't go back.

We went for brunch and, MAN!, I'm glad we did. Fantastic food and great staff. The croissant French toast is off the hook and the salmon scramble was perfect. A must visit when visiting Boise.

Inventive use of local ingredients and satisfying cocktails. I would recommend Juniper over and over to friends for a reasonably priced night out downtown.

Last night 8 of us enjoyed Chef Aaron Wermerskirchen chef's table and all of us were knocked out by how great everything was. 5 courses paired with 5 wines and not one miss. The pairings were so good and all the food was local as were 4 of the 5 wines (1 was from Washington). Highlights include grilled watermelon salad, eden chèvre stuffed quail with cous cous (from Twin Falls) and other delectable items. We certainly will do this one again.

Worth the wait. 4 1/2 stars. *come on Yelp! Give me my 1/2 's! * Juniper was the last restaurant the BF and I tried before we left Boise to head back to Utah. Originally we were going to try the red feather, but after walking by and noticing that not one table had food on it even though the entire place was packed, we changed our plans. Boise downtown on a Tuesday night.... Who knew? Luckily the Juniper was right there on the same street, and there was no wait. The place definitely has a "hip and hot" thing going for it. I felt severely underdressed but nobody pointed at me and scoffed so I guess I was okay. Our server was very friendly and very busy. Soon as we got a chance we gave him our order. *In case you are unaware... This is a tapas bar... Meaning small plates * We ordered the short ribs, the best salad with goat cheese, the grilled asparagus, and the mashed potatoes. And then we waited..... And waited...... And then we waited some more. Understanding that quality food takes time we tried to wait patiently. I think we probably waited a little more than a half hour for our food, but I may be wrong about that. As soon as our food arrived however, all was forgiven with the first mouthful. Dear sweet mother of nom nom it was good. Everything was good. Every dish we ordered was seasoned, spiced, sautéed, and served with perfection. If I want to get nit picky I would say that the beet salad could used more beets and less dressing, but other than that I have no complaints. This was by far the best meal we had while in Boise, and our bill came to about $30 before tip. If ever we find ourselves here again we will for sure be back, perhaps a little better dressed

Juniper was fallback choice for Happy Hour when first choice was closed. (There's a First World Problem. No complaints.) Splendid serendipity to have been vectored here. The list of things enjoyed was almost as many as the years of wedded...umm...bliss being celebrated. Vibe, menu, foood, service, price point all get thumbs up. This will now be a first choice option. VIBE All people will feel welcome here from those in little black dress (as was our hostess) to the bartender's jeans and shirt. During our late afternoon into early evening (about 4:30 - 6:00) folks of all ages (from twenty to seventy somethings) and all attire (including shorts and tees) arrived to take tables in and out. Music mix was nicely eclectic to fit the space and tuned low enough in volume to be a thread in the tapestry of the vibe but not take over the experience or drown conversation. Nice! Two story interior was remodeled from a former restaurant for uber cool meets warmly inviting design. Husband - wife owners exposed a wall of brick on one side. As counter point are sleek black wood tables and chairs, unadorned for meal service but for white cloth napkins with black design. Look up to creative lighting options. An "ahhhh...some" cohesiveness to the elements. Open only three weeks let's hope they keep this universal appeal going and don't devolve into "hipster central" because this is a location for people of all stripes who are lovers of great food and drink. Nolo timere, fellow Boomers! ;-) SEATING Some tables on front patio. About 14 high stools at the bar. Maybe 35 seats at standard height tables with banquette seating and chairs line the wall on main floor. More standard height seating up a flight of stairs. Seats 120 overall I am told. Plenty of space in the aisle way for service staff or guests on their way to and from tables or the loo. That owners avoided the "sardine can" in traffic flow here is "yahoo" worthy. So is that the bulk of seating is standard height tables and not obnoxious (IMHO) high perch tables. SERVICE Top notch for warm welcome, good attention and follow through. We were greeted promptly, given menus and had "the drill" explained when we asked questions. Our server knew the menu, could answer questions and also make recommendations. We felt well tended but not hovered over. LIBATIONS Specialty menu leans to gin cocktails, one of my favs, and then it dawned on me...duh...Juniper...what is a key ingredient in gin? (Jens J and Sherry S, this is your place if in Boise!) Both gin mojito ($7.50) and Juni and the Jets ($8.00) a perfect summer sipper of muddled grapefruit, gin, St.Germaine, and prosecco were expertly crafted. Thoughtfully assembled by bottle and glass wine list and approachable prices. For big "woohoo" they had two sparklers by the glass and a third poured at brunch times. Coffee is Dawson Taylor ($2.50) served nice and hot in white mugs. MENU & PRICES Juniper was on our second choice list because we had heard the food was Southern US focused and that isn't our favorite genre. But food here is more like fresh twists on classics along with new creations that leverage seasonal and local ingredients. Darned near perfect we thought based on first visit. That there are so many options that encourage small plate or shared plate dining is right up our alley. Chef Aaron Wermerskirchen clearly knows his stuff for creativity and execution. Prices ranging from $5 to $25 are a good value for this quality. FOOD We ordered only a couple of things and both were excellent so we are eager to return. Fried root vegetables were crisp and seasoned just right and came with warm blue cheese dipper (@$6). Mussels and clams with chorizo and sweet red pepper (@$14) came in a broth so delicious and perfectly seasoned we asked for spoons to be sure we got every drop along with the three generous baguette or batard slices sent out with the dish. The only suggestion we'd make is for the kitchen to put grill marks on that bread to have it be an even better partner for the broth.) The dessert menu is short, four or five options all presented in the same way in a mini mason jar. We shared rhubarb and strawberry with pistachio crumble that came with a scoop of fantastic cardamom ice cream (@$5). THIS N THAT 1) LOCATION: Downtown next to Matador. Parking can be a bear on street. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Level in and throughout first floor. Many standard height tables. Ample floor space for path of travel. Upper level seating is by stairs only. 3) HOURS & HAPPY HOUR: Love that they are open straight through from about 11a to 2a, so if you like to dine for late afternoon "linner" you'll find them open. No Happy Hour here but since they are open straight through, there are lots of options on the lunch menu (until 5) or dinner menu (starting at 5) for that purpose.

Stumbled upon this place on a weekender in Boise. Was refreshing to find some 'foodie food' after a weekend of eating quick order salads and granola bars. They have lovely craft cocktails (even for us non-drinkers), great farm to table style food, a lovely patio for people watching. We found some decent Vegan / GF options! and they were super accommodating on the modifications to make a meal that we could all eat. Verrrry important as a traveler looking for healthy options. Definitely stop in - this might be one of the best spots in Boise!

Went to Juniper last night. Maybe compared to other restaurants in Boise it is considered good but we were pretty disappointed. Our waitress,, needed more training. She seemed unprofessional and very flaky. She must have told us her name 5 times ( we're you high?) The menu is limited. Five main items for dinner? The chicken scaloppine was good but mostly smashed potatoes with about 2 oz. of chicken ( call it Smashed Potatoes with chicken). It was good but all potatoes. The salmon pasta was just ok. Not sure I would ever go Back for a business dinner, but at maybe for a cocktail and tapas.

We hadn't been back to Juniper since June (see below). This time, our evening was fantastic. All of the issues we had after our last visit with the service and food were distant memories. Our waitress was perfectly attentive and obviously took pride in her work. The wine we ordered was a much healthier glass than we had had a few months ago. The sesame peanut salad dressing was a perfect mix of tangy and spicy. The flat iron steak was perfectly cooked, as were the sides. From start to finish, we had a wonderful night out at Juniper! I'm so glad we gave them a second change--we can't to go back again soon!!!

In Boise for work and also happen to have have a wonderful friend that lives in the area. She suggested Juniper and I am so glad she did. When you first enter you notice what a beautiful space it is. Edison chandler bulbs, hardwood floors, exposed brick etc. The whole staff was friendly and welcoming (seems to be a Boise theme). There was a reservation that didn't show for their table so we we're immediately seated, score! Our table ordered the pretzel, meatballs, and kale salad to start. Everything was delicious and plated beautifully. The cheese dip with the pretzels could have been smoother and creamier but it was still tasty! For our main course we had the vegetable curry and a salad - all was flavorful yet simple...perfect! The curry had a nice spice to it. They also had an extensive bar menu (focusing on Gin) however I just had hot tea and my table mates had beer and wine...which they enjoyed. Would recommend this place for a date night, girls night out, or a solo dinner with a good book!

Thanks to Michele R. and Yelp one of my last meals in Boise ended on a HIGH note. Lackluster, but highly-touted restaurants in Boise downtown abound, but even with a head cold, Juniper's stood out in terms of flavor and value. First off, HH (4pm to 6pm) boast $5 house specialty cocktails - Bourbon Sour, Gin Mojito, Greyhound - a little on the sweet side and not strong enough for me... but at $5 a glass, you get a good sized glass, not one of those petite martini glasses where you're wondering whether to sip with your nostrils or lips. HH food - Burger ($4), Garlic herbed Fries ($2), Wings ($4) - Burger came petite (it's $4, people) - came with a side of house-made potato chips. Buns were some kind of crumpet, not the usual burger buns. Not enough for a meal, but decent for the price. Meat was medium-rare to perfection but not much on the flavor (not due to my head cold but also seconded by hubby). Garlic herbed fries - very nicely seasoned. "Best damn garlic herbed fries I've had", said my other half. Wings - Don't make the mistake of ordering SPICY, unless you are familiar with the Asian, put-your-mouth-out-with-a-fire-extinguisher version of spicy. The spicy version of the wings were surprisingly hot, but the yogurty aioli (?) sauce that came with it was nice. About half a dozen petite wings with one HH order. As we are gluttons, we also ordered the ribs with a side of grilled asparagus, which were on the dinner menu. Ribs were OK in flavor but quite tough and fatty. Asparagus nicely grilled and not drowning in oil. Decor modern, minimalist. Music, old school rock, not that perpetual throbbing electronica/dance that beats to the rhythm of a low grade fever/head cold. You can dress up or down - fellow diners included middle-aged women and the younger set. A lot of caesar salad with grilled chicken was being consumed around us. Perhaps a specialty? Server/hostess appeared to be the only one serving and hosting, and she did a great job. Others had to hail her down, but she came willingly to our table several times, perhaps sensing what absolutely pigs we were, ordering half of the menu. Great new find downtown Boise. Run, don't walk to Juniper, then crawl home on your hands and knees from the weight of the food and drinks.

I have yet to have a proper meal here, but I really dig this joint. Amazing space, great wine list and from what I gather, killer cocktails. Best yet, convenient downtown location. I fully plan on having dinner here on my next trip to Boise.

Very VERY disappointing. They weren't busy but the bartender took 10 minutes to take our order. We moved outside and ordered our dinner on the patio. My beer was flat, my guest said his beer was good. It was the most bland food I've ever eaten. I ordered the Chicken Caesar my guest ordered the Shrimp Caesar. The shrimp were mushy and bland. The only bright spot was our server. She was very nice. Oh, and it was waaaayyy to speedy for what we got.

I don't know why people are all excited about this joint but after my visit tonight, I won't be back. We ordered the pretzel strips and garlic fries for our meal. Though the pretzel strips were pretty good, the garlic fries were awful. The only way to describe the garlic fries was they tasted like burnt popcorn. You know, you can't get the taste out of your mouth no matter how much beer you drink??? Yeah, that gross. Something was said to the server about the garlic fries being burnt and awful and her response was, "Well, you ate half of them. Couldn't have been that bad." That comment sums up Juniper in 12 syllable or less. We won't be back. With all the options in downtown Boise available, we can cross Juniper off the list for good.

I met some friends a Juniper for a holiday lunch and was pleasantly surprised. How did it take a dear friend who lives in San Fransisco to find the best new spot in Boise!! I live here and hadn't tried it yet. I had the best food I have had in Boise in years outside of my own home! Everything was made with attention to detail, unique combinations of flavors and top notch ingredients. I had the lamb reuben and suffice it to say I think it was the best sandwich EVER!!! All of my lunch meetings will be at Juniper for the foreseeable future!!

This place seems to get better every time I go. The food might just be the best in town: (best steak Caesar salad ever!) The craft drinks are very good and unique with just the right amount of alcohol- not a lot, just a taste. The staff is pretty friendly and The atmosphere is really nice at night too.not pretentious. The lighting is a bit dark and I nearly fell down the stairs on my way out. I made it safely down though.beautiful building.

When I walked by this place the first time I was really excited to try it. So today I decided to try it out, I ordered the hippie shake IPA and a side of their herb garlic fries... What I got was delicious beer and a sad bowl of soggy fries with rosemary stems and some other bruised herbs... Personally An appetizer sets the tone for the entire menu. I am excited to come back in for a tasty beer and to try a different food item.

The hubby and I decided to give this place a try before catching a show. So glad we did! The menu is small and not overwhelming which is nice. They have smaller plates which allow you to share a variety of things. We ordered the kale salad (a must try, they crack an egg over the warm kale and it is so good!). We also had the salmon with asparagus which was cooked to perfection and the burger which was melt in your mouth delicious. The aioli sauce on the burger was simply divine and we commented to the waitress that they should offer that up as fry sauce it was that good. The service was fantastic. We will certainly be back.

The drinks are good and the decor is nice, that's about it. I've been here twice, and both times the service was absolutely horrendous. The first time, as a party of two, we waited far too long for service, far too long for drink refills, and far too long for our check (15 minutes after we finished our meal)... in fact, we had to flag down another waiter to ask for the check, as ours seemed to have forgotten that we existed, even though the restaurant was practically empty and he was milling about flirting with the other waitstaff. The second time, we came with a very large party. Again, lovely cocktails, terrible service, mediocre food. Cocktails came out that weren't ordered, other cocktails were forgotten, and we didn't receive water for the first twenty minutes of being there (and even then, we had to ask for it to get it), one person didn't receive any water until halfway through the meal. Everyone who ordered a salad to start received the wrong type of salad. The food took far too long to be placed on the table and everyone in the party was waiting patiently for everyone else to get their food, which meant cold food. My dinner order was forgotten completely and not brought out until way after after everyone else had already started eating (I actually had to inform the waitress that I did not have my food when she came to check on us to see how everything tasted...). No apology for that. I ordered the grilled cheese, which I would recommend they rename a chutney sandwich. The chutney was delicious, but I actually had to check to see if any cheese existed on it... although it did exist, calling it a "grilled cheese" is a stretch, as there was one small slice of cheese in the center, covering about half of the actual sandwich. Some people liked their food okay but the general consensus was "meh". TLDR: good drinks, terrible service, questionable food, don't bother. We won't be returning.

Love this neat little restaurant! We had the grass fed burger as well as the lamb sandwich & both were knockouts! Very delicious and the lamb was so nice and tender, one of the best sandwiches we've ever had. My only complaint, upon reviewing the menu before being seated the host told us they were all organic and had gluten free options. When I ordered my burger with the gluten free bun option I was told it wasn't available. Other than that, we love it and would definitely come again next time we visit Boise!

**two star casual/classy dining** I've been here a few times and mostly a disappointment. Over cooked, severly under portioned, and intensely over priced. The decor suggests high-end; but its really an over flow feeding pen for those who can't make it in to Red Feather for dinner. The servers at Juniper can't wait to race away and disappear before you can ask them where the other half of your fish went. Before you think I'm used to enormous portions; I will say my salmon serving was no larger than the palm of my dainty hand served on cold, floppy asparagus for about $18. They have a total of two toilets for an entire restaurant. Two. Toilets. Heaven forbid more than two people out of the possible 100 dining there might need to wash their hands or use a toilet at the same time. Lines easily form at each and that's no way I want to spend my evening out. My friend ordered a large salad meal and the dressing could not be altered; which was "flavorless" as I was told. Anyway, overall I don't recommend Juniper if you expect quality for your money. (The management responds just like in person; glib apologies stacked with excuses for not taking responsibility.)

The fried egg kale was amazing. Service was top notch and the vibe of the place was easy. I thought the garlic fries should be a must for everyone to try. I am curious about the fried olives. Great location. I will be back.

Outside looks pretentious but don't let it scare you away. We had the French toast and the kale/eggs. Both were amazing. Service was so nice and food came out fast. The brunch menu was great and the atmosphere isn't that bad! We had a great time.

We had brunch after walking the Saturday morning Farmers Market. I had the morning after(biscuit with fried chicken, bacon, egg, gravy) and my wife had the croissant French toast. Both meals were AMAZING! We really enjoyed the service and the meal came out within 15 minutes. The pricing wasn't cheap but not overly expensive. This is one of the best brunches we have had in Boise!

Went here for some beers on a friday, my friends beer tasted really odd, little funky. my beer was ok, my friend had the pretzel strips, meh, pretzel strips. Finished our beers and bounced. Probably won't be back.

I was excited to check this place out. I have been here now three times (for different occasions -- one time with the kids for dinner). I compare it to Red Feather but it seems a little more of a bar than a restaurant to me. Food is good but overall I would come back for the drinks (and sometimes music) and not the food.

Came here twice, once for brunch, once for drinks. I think they need to get a few things sorted out, and some statistical data on their menu and they could become a nice spot. for brunch, my foodie friend and I ordered 3 entres: croissant french toast: was eh, kind of weird taste to me, id rather traditional french toast or traditional croissant, I wasnt a huge fan. frittata: was ok, i wouldnt order again i dont think, but i wasnt dissappointed either. fried chicken biscuit: this is was pretty awesome, its kind of a direct rip off of the Reggie in Pine State Biscuits (portland). While not as good as PSB, it was a worthy substitue, I wouldnt order this for yourself, unless you hate your health. Split it and its great. coffee: this is critical for me, i was kind of dissappointed in the coffee, especially with dawsons right next door. Their drinks are good, but nothing had me craving a return trip. I much prefer the cocktails and beer selection of Red Feather/Bittercreek. Perhaps some tweaking would benefit, their drinks are like trapped between the 80s and the 30s: too classic a taste for the teeny bopper groups, but too sweet a taste for the older group. I do love that it's kind of a nice ambience and not super crowded lounge, great place for professional adult types to meet up for a prefunction of some kind; I'd support any establishment that doesnt appeal to the main street bistro college kids. Their happy hour seemed pretty good, id come back to try out happy hour.

This place is awesome. If you are a foodie this is the resturant for you. Alot of vegan option and everything down to the freaking ketchup is made in the resturant. Highly recomended

Great brunch although it took a long time to get our food. We ordered appetizers and that came with the main meal which was not good. They also didn't get the order correct but the food was still very good.

Wonderful addition to downtown Boise! Amazing locally sourced products, modern cocktail list. Friendly knowledgeable staff seems more then willing to go above and beyond. My expectations weren't just met, they were blown away! I'd recommend this place to anyone any day.

I have been here 3 times now. The food is fair. Excellent drinks but the food experience does not deliver. The shrimp-grits are okay but nothing exciting. The blue cheese beef sandwich is poor. No blue cheese flavor, minimal meat with alot of bread make up this sandwich. I prefer going to a sandwich shop, paying less and being more satisfied. The guest we brought along ordered the same sandwich and he had the same complaints. He ordered the fries which were good, I ordered the salad. Lettuce with dressing and that was it. I would go back for drinks, but would choose many other Boise options for dinner. Too expensive for food quality with no flare to menu. Will not go back for dinner.

So disappointing, first of all I ordered a dirty vodka martini, and what they brought me was undrinkable. In thirty years of ordering Martini's this was the first time I sent it back. There was no offer to replace it. One of us ordered the hamburger which was on par with any fast food joint, eatable but not special. I ordered the salmon which was drenched in honey, I like honey so had no problem eating it all, but there was no other flavor. My other companion had the beef with mashed potato and said it was eatable but bland. So bottom line don't recommend the place.

This place is new so I will give it a second chance. It's hard to start a new business, staff, location, suppliers and I think my waitress was on drugs. The story although frustrating was honestly funny... (Party of two) Ordered two taste samples of beer, with the beer order one of the two delivered was wrong. Ordered two apps, one delivered and an apology was given for forgetting about the second. After an hour we inquired about taking our our meals to go as we had to leave. I was asked if I wanted another beer. When to go meal was delivered, they forgot the second meal. When sharing the one to go meal at home it was overlooked and we decided to eat left overs. Next time I'm sure it will be better. Until then, good luck guys! :-)

Only reason this place deserves 2 stars is because their gin cocktails are on point. My partner and I went on a date night there. Our waiter was some fake ass dude that kept saying everything we asked about " was his favorite. " Very fake. He also kept doing the finger guns at us. Anyway, we ordered the garlic fries to start, they were awful. Very bitter and soggy. I got the beet salad and my partner the Korean short ribs. He said the ribs were alright. My salad was mixed greens, goat cheese, a tiny bit of dressing and maybe 6 slices of beets that were definitely from a can. We got the pear tarte dessert with bleu cheese ice cream that was actually great! I wouldn't go back unless I wanted a drink or two because that $70 tab definitely wasn't worth it. It also seems like they have 100 people staffed there.

Brunch at Juniper on Saturday morning, although not perfect, was still pretty darned good. Not busy when we arrived, our party of 6 + a toddler were immediately seated at a great large table. Our waitress was outstanding and got our drink orders out very quickly and took our food order just as soon as we were ready. She also checked up on us during the meal at just the right intervals with offers of drink refills. The brunch menu had some really interesting and delicious cocktails and there was enough food choice for everyone to be happy. Although they were not that busy, the food took longer to come out of the kitchen than I expected, but it was still worth the wait. The chicken biscuit with bacon, cheese and sausage gravy was HUGE and was voted as tasty. The linguica scramble was delicious, though I wish the kale was chopped up a bit more so it wouldn't dominate the bites. The fried potatoes that came along with the scramble took me back to my mom's cooking when I was a youngster. Lamb hash had a plentiful amount of meat and got thumbs up as well as did the pancakes. My only complaint with the food was the coffee. It was overly strong, extremely bitter and copious amounts of creamer couldn't save it. Finally, the unpadded chairs do not encourage hanging out and make the longish wait for food seem even longer. Overall it was a good experience made even better by a first class waitress and the friendly greetings from the staff as we entered and left.

One of my top five go to downtown restaurants. Cocktails are primarily gin, as you would expect. Food is relatively thoughtful and well executed. Nice ambience and location on eighth. Pleasant and engaging patio seating during the summer.

Came here to try it out after my first and usual choice was packed out (for a reason). This place was dead, and i mean there was one other customer inside at the bar. My party sits down outside, and our server comes up and drops off some menus then takes off with barely a word. He comes back and half answers some questions we have about the happy hour items and i decide on the "burger" and "garlic fries". Food shows up and the snack cake i get is barely the size of a silver dollar, and the fries arent garlic at all but are drowned in a minced herb that tastes like black liquorice, not my favorite. We had to ask for napkins as the server came back 20 minutes later, because he never put out utensils to begin with. The ingredients are local, the drink menu is decent, and this place is still stumbling on newborn legs, so im being kind with 3 stars, i may go back in a few more months and see if they come into their own before crashing and burning.

If only the food was as good as the service. Our group tried the shrimp & grits, the red beans & rice, and steak sandwich. No one finished their meal. Drinks and appetizers were ok. Neat building and cool vibe. Our waiter was outstanding and they had plenty of staff working the room so no waiting around for meals or drinks. Looks like a good happy hour spot.

What a great surprise! Met some friends for dinner tonight and was very pleasantly surprised. Tapas style with many small plates to share and great entrees. Great drinks! The bartender is very skilled. Had the gin mojito which was very good. My grass fed beef burger was excellent. Overall good service and a great dining experience.

We went here for food and drinks recently. The customer service is amazing (our food was comped when it was delayed from the kitchen). Great drink selection, modern and comfortable atmosphere, and fresh, creative and delicious food. It's a great place for lunch, happy hour or dinner. The crowd is a good mix of ages and includes singles and couples. I highly recommend Juniper!

We met the chef Erin who was more than willing to accomodate my vegetarian needs. Our server John was effecient and knowleagle of the menu. We had the cheese plate and the hot pretzel for appetizers. Homemade mustard for the pretzel...yes please. My husband had the lamb with the squash rattatouie. I had the squash rattatouie. They support regional farmers for their dishes too. The wine was good, some local and decent priced. I can't wait to go back and try a few more things.

  • Sondra L.

I was excited to check this place out. I have been here now three times (for different occasions -- one time with the kids for dinner). I compare it to Red Feather but it seems a little more of a bar than a restaurant to me. Food is good but overall I would come back for the drinks (and sometimes music) and not the food.

    (3)
  • Trisha D.

  • CPB J.

  • John C.

  • Carter J.

This place seems to get better every time I go. The food might just be the best in town: (best steak Caesar salad ever!) The craft drinks are very good and unique with just the right amount of alcohol- not a lot, just a taste.
