This what super fresh seafood tastes like!!!! My husband had the halibut fish and chips: Superb! It didn't have that heavy taste you get from using old oil. This was very light. I thought for a moment I may have made a mistake and should have ordered the halibut as well. I ordered the clam chowder and shrimp.: Wow! Clam chowder has clams in it! Imagine that! Not just itty bitty pieces of clams...CLAMS! It was creamy and dreamy! The shrimp were really prawns. Great big prawns! They were super fresh and prepared to perfection. They give you a small bit of coleslaw. I don't care much for coleslaw. But I tasted it, and I ate all of it. Whatever they do different, I like it! They also give you a complimentary mini scoop of sherbet to cleanse your plalette for dessert. I had pineapple, while hubby had orange. What a nice touch. Oh, why the minus one star? They don't offer table ordering. You stand in line to order then find a table. My advice, find the table first.

I have been here a few times with various friends and family. Overall, it's not too bad. The food is decent, the service is alright, and the prices are okay. Honestly, my absolute favourite item here would have to be the crab muffin sandwich. There's something about a hot seafood sandwich that's satisfying. Overall, Fresh off the hook is not a destination I frequent, but...If I'm in the area and seafood sounds good, I'll pop in for a meal.

Very tasty and FRESH! Hard to find fresh today. Romantic setting and attentive staff. Will be back for sure

Fish and chips are fabulous! Batter wasn't too much, the grease fried in was not the icky greasy kind. Very refreshing! Excellent fish tacos - light and flavorful. Customer service was great and free sherbet yummm

My husband finds the fish and chips the best in town. I love the fish tacos! We have tried half the items on the menu and never had anything but great food.

Lunch is GREAT! We started with the Calamari Strips appetizer, perfect for two of us to share. I had the light offering of Alaskan Cod and my bestie had the regular order of Halibut. We both enjoyed our orders, as well as each other's. They even have a section of the menu for "Smaller Appetites", which we used to order chicken strips and fries for my goddaughter. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is that it's kind of a smaller area. I would have liked our table to be a little further away from the next table. Other than that- perfect place to get your seafood fix. Two thumbs up from this girl!

Hmm...greasy fish and chips, pricy menu, almost non-existent service. This place was a big disappointment. We feel no need to ever return.

I want to love this place so bad... "Best of Boise" for almost a decade straight!? How could it not be worthy of 5 stars??? Well... Consider the competition I guess. It's crowded with tables allowing just one person (small or "sucked in big") between them. Two service people serving roughly 50 people, and no bussers means they are clearing tables too. Add to that there are no trays/carts means two trips per clearing. This means very slow service. They are nice, they do their best, clearly... Just bad management of the staff and the tools to do their job effectively. We only had water, but I'm looking around at people being served soda IN A CAN. It has been 25 minutes since we ordered. Finally the food started coming. The food is average really. We started with Clam Chowder and liked it but it's nothing compared to coastal chowder like "Moe's" in Depot Bay, OR... Not sure that's fair, but it's true. I've had chowder this good made at home at my sisters place. But it's good. Not super creamy... Cream with water resulting in a grainy texture look and a bland-ish taste. 10 more minutes waiting. The shrimp cocktail was quite disappointing. 5 "30-35 shrimp" as I call them (you can get 30-35, frozen per pound - not big at all) in a glass on limp wilted lettuce served with decent cocktail sauce... Think Heinz cocktail with a bit of pace picante... Seriously, I think that might be what it was. 20+ minutes. Seriously. This is ridiculous. Not that it matters, but I'll talk about the entrees anyway, just to complete the review, and I will be fair.... Wait! It gets better! Our server just informed me... Almost an HOUR AFTER I ORDERED that they ARE ALL OUT OF WHAT I ORDERED!!! The Halibut and chips my wife ordered were good. The Halibut was thin, but very tasty. The sauce to dip the halibut was a nice compliment to a perfect batter. Fries were great, perfectly fried. We shared it, cause I am soooo very hungry. Off to Carl's Jr where I will get decent food incredibly fast at a fair price. Damn it, I wanted to love this place. Never to return.

Hands down the BEST service I've ever had. We came in late (close to closing, sorry!) and the waiter was exceptionally helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Will definitely return if we visit Boise again.

I ate there yesterday about 2pm. It wasn't crowded and the service was fine. My guest had the salmon blt and it was just okay. Salmon didn't appear fresh to her. I had the warm seafood salad and wouldn't recommend it. The scallops were awful, rubbery and cold. The larger shrimp were good, but the "baby" shrimp were clearly from a can. I can't put my finger on it, but something was just off. I don't like the atmosphere, either, kind of cramped and very dark. No real decor to speak of.

Halibut fish tacos ...excellent Cod fish and chips .. great Clam Chowder ... job well done! ... my daughter (7) does not like fish. We ordered the chicken strip and fries, and it is it is real chicken. ... nice chicken fillet not crazy about the batter. But for real chicken who cares about the batter. Service was great. We will be back!

Wife had the Salmon BLT. She loved it and the bite I got made me agree. I had the salmon and chips. Salmon was really great. Fries were soso but they did have vinegar at the table.

The fish is phenomenal here. I have eaten at Fresh off the Hook 4-5 times over the last 5-6 years. Every time the food is excellent! Unfortunately, the service hasn't ever kept up. Missed salads, empty drink glasses (and having to ask for more) have been a recurring theme. I look past the service however because the food is THAT good. Just don't be afraid to catch the waitresses attention!

Found this place while walking around Downtown Boise. My husband had the fish (cod) and chips, I had the Ahi tuna sandwich with coleslaw and the kids had fried clams with sweet potato fries. We all tried each other's meals, as families do right? Anyway, our experience was stellar. The server was attentive and happy, our food was awesome and cooked just right. The tuna steak was still pink in the middle and the batter on the fish for the fish and chips was light...the kids also loved their meal.

I always order the halibut (when in Boise) at this restaurant. It's always good! Atmosphere is family appropriate. Cute paintings on wall. This is a popular joint & can get very busy!

I had the salmon special is it was cooked just right with a touch of the raspberry sauce, the shrimp bisque was great also, place is a little small and in a strip mall but do not let that fool you, it is a great place for dinner. Servers were quick even though the place was busy.

I love seafood, and I'm a big fan of Fresh Off the Hook. I've tried tons of things on their menu and have enjoyed every single one. Most often, I order the calamari appetizer as a meal. It's cooked so nicely, the breading is crunchy, and it's not oily at all. The best calamari in Boise that I've tried ... and I've tried a LOT! I do ask for a second container of tartar sauce, though, because I love dippin'. I've brought friends and family here to try it, and they've all become repeat customers, too. I hope they're able to expand the dining room at some point, because it's pretty small.

It's a chain! The new BoDo Fresh Off the Hook is the 2nd location for this locally owned restaurant. It is conveniently located in the 8th Street Market Place, a part of downtown Boise in which one can find a movie theater, several shops, plenty of other restaurants and bars, and also happens to be a showcase for local and new artists through the Artists in Residence Program (AIR). The opening of Fresh Off the Hook at this location makes me happy since I don't have to schlep ALL THE WAY out to the Milwaukee St. location, out by the mall - if you know Boise it's only 8 minutes from Downtown - but still, I'm lazzzy. Anyway, I like the original location so decided to check out the new place. Fresh Off the Hook specializes in [...playing Jeopardy! theme music...]? What is seafood? Yes! A little too "adorable" for the name of the place in my opinion, but at least you know what you're probably in for when you choose to eat here. The seafood is quite tasty and it's simply prepared. I almost always get the Halibut Fish Tacos here, they are quite good, not at all spicy (too bad), but quite fresh and topped with a really crisp slaw and pico. Yes, the halibut is fried, but it the treatment is not at all heavy handed. You get fries but you can sub other items for a nominal charge. In Idaho, everything comes with fries, so deal. The other item I enjoy is the calamari. It is quite tender for how freakishly big the pieces are; I don't know that I've seen this 'cut' before, but who cares because it is quite good and is served with cocktail and tartar sauces, both tasted homemade as stated on the menu. You don't get any tentacles though, which is strange because I wonder what other use they might have? Or maybe another seafood place out there only serves tentacles? Hmm...I sense a need for Match listing - it would be good to have both the strips and the tentacles come together in this dish. Maybe Idahoans are squeamish about that part of the squid? I have also had the salmon entrée; my suggestion is to get it grilled. Don't count on any fancy preparations and forgo the lemon pepper and kosher salt with this dish - just a squeeze of lemon is all that you will need to finish this fresh dish. The sides, sautéed vegetables and wild rice, are boring and not executed well. The veggies are always overcooked and the rice gummy, probably due to overcooking again. The service at the BoDo location was just fine, but I did not like waiting at the front desk for someone to come and great me. It is a pet peeve of mine when the front desk is not attended and it is especially impolite when the greeting is a sign that reads "Welcome! Please wait to be seated!" Ugh. The entryway at Fresh Off the Hook is configured such that no member of the wait staff can see guests entering the restaurant from the main dining area. One waits politely at the front desk, but after a minute or two you get a bit antsy and peer around the corner wondering, is there anybody home? This should be rectified. The dining area is split into two small-ish rooms and is all sharp edges and primary colors which make the space feel rather cold, even the exposed brick doesn't do much to warm up the space. I guess that's the expectation in BoDo - the loft look - however it is not implemented right...something's off. I know, how about some of that local art on the walls? 002.13

It was ok, the beer was good but the food wasn't anything to rave about. We did have a very nice waitress so that was good but I don't know if I'd return.

Easily the BEST seafood restaurant in Boise. My husband and I eat here all the time. The halibut fish and chips and the salmon sandwich are the best things on the menu. Clam chowder is to die for. Side salads are always fresh and flavorful. We have eaten at several seafood places and for the price, this one always wins out. The only downside is that it is small inside and can be crowded. It's tough to get a table around 12-1 during the lunch rush. Other than that, no complaints.

Boise Idaho is landlocked. People look confused when you say 'seafood' because in Boise fish come from lakes and rivers and puddles. Fresh Off the Hook is an oasis for very simple (always) high quality seafood. Their best offering is halibut tacos or prawn n chips. The wait staff is stepford-wife-ish friendly and helpful. Salads and deserts are completely acceptable quality. Fresh Off the Hook consistently wins Best of Boise in the seafood category. A clearly small category but important to East Coast natives like myself who are proudly snobbish about seafood. You will not be disappointed with Fresh Off the Hook for a seafood offering. Just try not to think about Portland or Seattle.

Calamari was good. Also had fish tacos...one with Mahi Mahi and one with shrimp....both inedible. I've never taken a bite of anything as greasy and flavorless. How this is "Best of Boise", I do not comprehend. Someone must have stuffed the ballot box. Guess it's always possible they had an off night, but no one else in my party liked anything but the calamari either.

Visited today with the family. Had the fish and chips (mahi & cod), a beer, and a couple of kids' meals. Service was friendly (but slow); food was good...not great, but good, and the price was a little above reasonable. WHAT WAS GOOD: -Quality of the fish (both cod and mahi) in fish and chips. Fish was darned good! Chip quality was good...batter-dipped fries, right out of the bag. Would've been nice to see house-made. Kids had chicken tenders (they're kids; they get a break) and those were decent. Also right out of the bag. -Good tartar sauce, nice to have malt vinegar on the table as well. -Service was friendly and nice. -Beer selection was decent...a brown ale, Fat Tire, and a couple of others. Boo no IPA. WHAT WASN'T SO GOOD: -Took ~20 mins for our food...it's just fish & chips! A little slow. -Price was a bit much for the portion size...$8.99 for ~5-6 cod pieces a little bigger than a large walnut. $7.99 for 4 mahi pieces, same size. Drop the price a buck and we have a deal. I should've tried the clam chowder, so I could report on it, but didn't. I likely will not be back; can probably scratch my fish & chips itch at a brew-pub vice here. It's good...I wouldn't "avoid" the place...but I also wouldn't go out of my way for it. I don't think I'd send friends or family here...it's acceptable, but not outstanding.

Heard great things about this place but it was OK at best. Fish and Chips were on the slim side... Small cuts of fish. Veggies were undercooked. And the service was borderline bad. Not sure if we will be back

Another reviewer inspired me to comment on this local gem as he pointed out it hasn't been reviewed in quite a while. Can't believe I forgot to chime in on this one! For the longest time I never went - I suppose I assumed it wouldn't be that great considering the location. The first time I finally ate there I instantly regretted all the wasted years I spent not going to Fresh Off The Hook. The Fish and Chips with cod are my idea of perfect, but I also recommend going a little more adventurous if you stop in. Their seafood pasta is exquisite! So creamy and delicious. Also LOVE the fish tacos. They have a good variety of sandwiches and entrees as well. And if you order a side of vegetables they use what is fresh, in season, and saute them to perfection...mmmm....overall a really great full menu. It seemed really reasonably priced to me - especially considering it's LOCAL and how good the selections are. And they have good beer on tap!!!!!!! I must say I do love the decor...we always sit by the "window" and the indoor lampposts are cute...reminds me of being in Cannon Beach or something. Additionally the wait staff is friendly and good at what they do and we have never had any issues with wait times or our orders. Either way, if you like seafood AT ALL this is the place to go. Delicious, local, casual dining over by the mall...pretty rare and pretty awesome.

We loved it! Crab cakes were delicious and the blackened halibut was the best fish I've eaten in Idaho. Not fancy, but the staff is friendly and the food delicious. Even gratis sherbet after dinner.

Worst service I have ever received at a restaurant. From drink order to bill, problems in every phase. Was offered a flavored tea that they didn't even have, so they sent a different flavor without telling me. Then ordered an appetizer that never came (but still showed up on the bill after notifying staff we never got it). Asked for Tabasco for the very bland clam chowder. That never came. Asked for tartar sauce for the fried clams. Dish was cold by the time I decided to go inside to get it myself (after seeing the server deliver a check several minutes later to the table next to us and not seeing her again for several more minutes). The rest of the food that did come was mediocre at best. When asked to split the bill, waitress ran the wrong card for each person's share. Horrible experience. Will not be back until this place changes restaurants...AGAIN. Bummer addition to BODO.

This was a cute little place. We dropped off runners to join the crowd at Olive Garden and came across the street to this. Was a great decision. Loved the fish and chips. I had the halibut. It was the best I have ever had and the salad and fries also good. My husband got the crab salad and liked but liked my food better. I had to share a little. Loved the complimentary sherbet after too. Will come back here whenever we are in Boise.

I have been in town for business a few times over the past few months and eaten here each time. I am never disappointed! I love the crab cakes. The halibut is amazing with the dill sauce.

[note: didn't realize there were two locations until after I wrote this review. I've only eaten at the one by the mall] ... Loved it!! Best fish and chips I've had in a while. Complainers need to simmer down! This isn't some fancy sit down establishment ... It's great seafood at a great price, and casual dining where you order at a counter. I will definitely be back!! It was so fun, and I was impressed that even though I ordered at the counter, they still waited on me. Fries are amazing too!! I will bring guests here who visit me in Boise.

Always great food! Fast service. Highly recommend fish and chips, calamari, bruschetta on toasted points, Caesar salad, and sandwiches. Great French fries too- they really round out the meal.

Salmon Bruchetta delish! The side veggies also delightful..not expected w/pea pods, asparagus, squash and cooked perfectly. Another in the party had the haddock special..cooked perfectly..yum! Waitresses very attentive too .nice!

Wonderfully consistent quality from one of the best seafood places in Boise. The seating is limited, however, so plan on arriving after 7:30, go on a holiday when many Boiseans are out of town (we went on July 5), or just be patient. The wait is worth it. I had Captain Alex's Seafood Platter this time, and every mouthful was succulent.

First off let me start by saying that I went to Fresh's location by the mall and it was FABULOUS! The BoDo location is a bit pompous for me. Upon entering the greeter asked if we had a reservation and said she would see if she had room. The restaurant was about 1/4 full. We were seated in the back, behind the main part of the dining room. The room has a loft atmosphere so it was very loud. We were a party of 5. I found the menu selection to be somewhat limited and a bit on the pricy side for what you get. I ordered the halibut and was surprised at the small portions for a plate that costs about $15. Others at my table had fish and chips, a salmon sandwich, a salmon Alfredo dish and a jambalaya dish - all looked (and they said) tasted good. My meal was disappointing, however what was more disappointing was the service. I sent my meal back because the fish was completely dried out with hard edges that a fork couldn't cut into and a slightly burnt taste. The waiter offered to make a new one, but I declined, once I have a bad plate, I don't want a second one. When the bill came I was surprised that the cost of my plate was still on there, since I had returned it. I asked the waiter to remove it and he said that "the kitchen" said I had ate most of it and therefore I would have to pay for it. So let me be clear here: I ate the veggies first, before I even tasted the fish, I then ate 2 bites of rice and started on the fish. I had 2 bites of the fish and decided to return the dish. When the waiter came a friend who was with me also took a bit of the fish to verify that it was indeed overcooked and as I had described. I guess 3 bites out of a piece of fish that is 4 inches by 4 inches by 1 inch thick would make it appear that someone had "eaten the entire meal". The veggies had a nice flavor though they were overcooked and somewhat greasy. The rice was boring - sticky - also over cooked. I asked to speak to the manger and explained all of the above. She still refused to credit me the meal. I feel that as a manager of the restaurant you should do all reasonable efforts to make it right. We were a table of 5 spending over $120 on food, beer and wine. If they were willing to make me a 2nd dish, why not be willing to waive the charge? I give this restaurant 1 star, not for the fact that my meal was poorly executed, because I understand that shit happens, but because of the lack of customer service and the managers steadfast need to be "right". A $15.00 credit on a tab (actual cost to them $5 (probably), would have made repeat customers out of the 5 of us and resulted in a better review. Now, I will not be back, nor will I support this chain at the mall location either. Boo!

  • Anthony M.

Kinda surprised by the mixed reviews of this place. It's really a great place to eat. Probably my only complaint is that it's difficult to find a seat with little ones. I think it could use a small remodel. I get the calamari almost every time... It's really that good. I haven't had much better on the water.

What a disappointment, from the wine to the food. I ordered the halibut fish tacos, and while I love sushi, I wasn't expecting raw fish in my taco. I also asked for sweet potato fries as the suggested alternative, for a bit more money, to the corn chips (really?) that accompanied the tacos. I didn't get them, however, even after bringing it to the server's attention. My hubby ordered the blackened salmon, which tasted like it had been previously frozen and then overcooked. Our server, in apparent apologies, offered us a free sherbet, which we declined. Minutes later, she offered the same thing to the couple behind us as a service to the restaurant patrons. Needless to say, there are better places to get seafood, Bonefish down the street for one. We won't be returning.

We were in BoDo and decided to get dinner at Fresh Off The Hook. The decor is nice, and some of the tables have a great view. However, our table was right outside the kitchen door. My view was of the kitchen door and a blank wall... I understand making use of all available space, but would suggest they only seat at that table when all others are full. We arrived fairly early, so there were plenty of other tables available. My husband ordered the fish and chips, with a bowl of clam chowder to start. He loved the clam chowder, but felt the fish and chips were a little bland. That could be because he ordered the halibut version instead of the cod though. Coleslaw was OK, but I don't think it was homemade. I really wanted the coconut shrimp, but it's only available as an appetizer. I decided to go ahead and order it, and then ordered a cup of tomato shrimp bisque and a crab cake to go with it. The coconut shrimp were quite small, and there weren't many of them. I realize it was an appetizer, but generally appetizers are shared, so I was still expecting it to be a little bigger. The tomato bisque and crabcake were pretty good, but nothing special. That actually describes the food in general -- it's pretty good, but not the kind of crazy good that makes you immediately plan a return trip. We would have ordered dessert, but the three choices our server described to us all sounded very chocolatey. On the way out, we noticed a sign that mentioned a sticky toffee pudding. I would have ordered that, but it wasn't one she mentioned. Maybe they were out of it? If so, it probably would have been best to remove the promotional sign. The service had highs and lows. Our server was very friendly and tried to be accommodating, but we did have to request straws for our drinks two different times. Also, the entrees arrived approximately 90 seconds after we received our soup. The food was just lined up on the table, and got a bit cold while we tried to hurry through the soup. One last service negative is our server was actually too quick at trying to clear dishes. It would be best if she waited till the customer was finished chewing.... I don't know what the hurry was, as there were plenty of empty tables and no customers waiting to be seated. A positive to this negative is that we didn't have to pay for parking -- even with the walk to and from the parking garage, we were back in our car in less than an hour! I think the prices were reasonable for a restaurant in this location. No complaints there. We might try this restaurant again in a few months, if we're already in the area. This location is new, and they may just need a little time to work out some of the details.

Good but not great...great staff and service but for the price and quality just mediocre at best. If this is Boise's BEST seafood restaurant Boise is seriously in need of some other competition.

I have ordered fish and chips from a lot of places, and I constantly find myself saying that it's not as good as Fresh Off the Hook. The first time I had fish and chips here was in 2007 about a week before my twin boys were born. My Dad took my husband and I there, and it was a transcendental experience that has kept us coming back again and again. My husband and I each order a cod and halibut and then split. The batter is light and crisp and amazing, and the fish is so fresh. We have since moved away from Boise, but every time we are in town we have to stop by. Sometimes the service can leave a little to be desired. I've had some pretty snarky waitresses here. Whatever, as long as they bring the food and it's just as delicious as it always is, I can put up with a little attitude!

The service was good during my lunch visit. I ordered a cup of shrimp tomato bisque and grilled salmon half sandwich. The bisque was really good. Very flavorful. Would go back for that. The sandwich was pretty sad. Portions were very small. The salmon could not have been more than a few oz, it didn't even cover up the bread it was served on. The toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion) are put on the side and are also poorly portioned. The salmon was cooked well and tasted pretty good, but all the flavor from the sandwich just comes from the tarter sauce it's served with on the side. I would say that's a rip off for a $10 lunch. Next time I will stick to what others are doing and just get the fish and chips or calamari.

I have found a new favorite in Boise. I recently moved her from Oregon and the fish in our meal was as good as I have had on the West Coast. The wait staff was very knowledgeable about the menu and very friendly. If I knew her name I would specifically request her again as she was excellent. The restaurant is on the small side, cozy and charming. I enjoyed the low music and ambience with the light poles scattered throughout. It felt like a sidewalk cafe on the coast. The appetizer we had was absolutely delicious. Crab stuffed jalapeno poppers sound hot, but aren't. There are 3 large poppers served on a bed of fresh purple cabbage with pico de gallo and ranch dressing on the side for $6.99. The chef delivered the appetizer! It was yummy. Give the ranch dressing a pass - the poppers were best with the pico. The poppers were filled with chunks of crab & cheese, and I think a breading of some sort. They were good enough to feature as an entree and I told the chef that when he came back through the dining room. I will definitely order this one again. For an entree, I had a very reasonably priced "Soup & Half Grilled Salmon Sandwich" with tomato shrimp bisque soup for $9.99. The salmon was cooked perfectly! It was served plain on lightly buttered foccacio bread with lettuce, tomato, onion, and dill tartar sauce all on the side. The dill tartar sauce was excellent. The sandwich was perfect. But I have to say the tomato shrimp bisque was my favorite. Smooth, creamy, subtly flavored - it hit the spot. It was topped off with a sprinkling of scallions and parmesan. THere were chunks of tomato and bay shrimp throughout. I will *absolutely* order this again! My mouth is watering again even as I write this review. The meal was a winner all around. My partner had another excellent entree Halibut Bruschetta. The halibut was beautifully seasoned and cooked to perfection. The bruschetta toast and tomato accompaniment was excellent. I've had a similar combination in other restaurants but not with the halibut, and not as beautifully prepared and presented. The chef creatively brings ingredients together to tease your palate and make you want more. After reading some of the other mixed reviews, I have to wonder why someone would come to this delightful restaurant and then order a meal like fish-n-chips that you can get at any restaurant on the corner. And as for the poster who said the meal was 'slow' and took 20 minutes (!) to be brought to the table, that seems quite fast for restaurant quality meals that were as fresh and fabulous tasting as the one I had. If I wanted my food served in 5-10 minutes, I would go to a fast food restaurant and pay less. The meal we had was excellent, a good value for the quality and quantity of food served, and the waitress was one I would definitely ask for again. Our meal was almost perfect. The only disappointment I experienced was that I wanted to order the Carrot Cake but they were out. I expect to return frequently to this gem. Well-done Fresh Off the Hook!! 06/01/12 5 stars again!!!! Had another visit this evening for dinner. Excellent again! Wow, I take back my previous comment wondering why anyone would order the fish & chips. I decided to give it a try. I had halibut fish & chips with a small salad, coleslaw, and fries. Stellar food. The halibut fish & chips were about the best I've ever had. It was impeccably cooked, hot, and delicious. The plate was beautiful - sprinkled with tiny bits of green (parsley?) and was very pretty. They also served a complementary small scoop of tropical fruit sherbet afterwards. The waitress was lovely and timed everything perfectly. I told the waitress my only complaint was that I couldn't have that meal every night of the week.

Having moved here from Oregon, I was in the mood for some seafood tonight for dinner. A quick search on the web showed this place that had won the "Best of Boise" for seafood five years 2006-2010. It's a small place, so probably not good for groups. It's in a little strip mall and it's accross the street from a Red Lobster. It is decorated nicely and has that Northwestern Fishmonger kind of feel to it. The service was outstanding. The beer was good. The seafood was fabulous. We ordered the crab stuffed jalapeno poppers and they are worthy of "signature dish" honors. Very tasty. I had the halibut brushetta and clam chowder and my wife had a grilled salmon sandwich and the shrimp tomato bisque soup. We had a hard time choosing which was our favorite. Everything was fresh and clearly made from scratch. The chef brought our food out to us and several times we had to pull him aside to tell him how good it was and to ask questions on preparation. Good job, Boise! I didn't known I'd find such a great seafood place here.

Great salmon sandwiches!!! Took a date there and had a great time, nice atmosphere. Clam chowder is good. Didn't think the crab poppers were worth it, 7 bucks for three poppers????

Really amazing salmon fish and chips. Unfortunately, they cook the fish and chips in the same oil, pan, whatever with their shellfish, and I'm allergic to shellfish. I didn't think it was a problem, as I'm new with the allergy, but I started to have a reaction. Unfortunately this place is another added to a growing list of restaurants I can't eat at or return to because of their practices in serving their food.

CAN YOU SAY HALIBUT TACOS?! Oh boy, whenever I'm craving sushi I'm making the trek across town to get my fix from Fujiyama, which is in the same complex as Fresh Off The Hook. A few days ago, I was craving fish, but not raw fish, so Tay and I poked our heads into Fresh Off The Hook and I am SO glad we did! The exterior is inconclusive and almost unassuming, one would not think a Seattle "harbor" style interior would be hiding underneath a strip mall exterior! When you get in, head straight for the front counter where you can browse at a menu held in a menu box to the right, or browse at the menu actually on the top of the counter. The service was a little slower than I hoped for and since I only had an hour for lunch and had driven from Eagle, we had to hurry which is never ideal. The fresh and delicious food made up for it though! I had one halibut taco (I debated on whether I should get two or not) with a generous portion of battered halibut mixed with a fresh concoction of what seemed to be like cole slaw. However, this cole slaw had more of a sweet bite, almost like mango salsa? One bite and I knew I should have ordered two! Their french fries are the best in the business as well. You can always tell a great restaurant from the fries. Since they are usually the first thing a customer puts in their mouth and the last thing they are picking at after their meal, some could argue they are the first and last impression of an establishment! Either way, the fries were hot and fresh just like my halibut taco. Tay had the shrimp taco and saif the same thing, "We will be back!" ($14 for two people ain't bad!) Thanks for a great experience Fresh Off The Hook!

The food here is incredible. The fish is very fresh, cooked to order but the best thing to get here everytime is the fish tacos. They are simply the best in Boise. The owner is often there and visits with customers. They even give you free sherbet after you meal if you want it! Service is great and fast. You order at the counter and then take your seat and your food is delivered fast and hot.

Went here today for lunch with my fiance. We both had fish sandwiches; ahi for me, salmon for him. The buns looked exactly like the Sara Lee ones we buy for cheap burgers, the lettuce was slightly wilted, the onions were cut inconsistently (mine too thin, his way too thick), the tartar sauce lacked flavor, the fries were under-cooked, and aside from there being fish present everything could have been done better by Carl's Jr. But the fish was good, so I guess they live up to their name. As an end note, two sandwiches "with chips" and soft drinks came to around $26. I hate to say it, but for the quality of food and the price you'd be better off at the Red Robin's nearby.

Another attempt at finding decent fish and chips in Boise leads to another failure. =/ Maybe I should stop looking =P I started with the Tomato Seafood Bisque... meh, it wasn't all that great. Sure it had some fish chunks in it, but it felt waaay too light for a bisque. When I have bisque, I expect something a bit thicker. This was like cheap tomato soup with some leftover fish chunks. Although, the fish chunks were decently fresh. For my entree, I wanted a little more than fish and chips, so I got "Alex's Seafood Platter" - Fried cod, shrimp, and clams with veggies and wild rice. The veggies were like a frozen veggie bag - broccoli, cauliflower, carrots... not seasoned at all. The wild rice was mushy... bleh! Clam strips didn't seem fresh... neither did the shrimp. I liked the cod... which made me think maybe I should've just went for the cod and chips... If we ever come here again... maybe I'd try something with the fresh fish. It looked okay... but then again, if the sides were any indication of what else they served... maybe I should avoid the place. Service was... meh... we got ignored for about ten minutes even though there were 3 waiters and we arrived before two other tables. The complimentary orange sherbert was okay... but umm... didn't really make up for the rest of the meal. A little more than $40 for soup, and entree, and beers for two. =/ WHERE CAN I GET GOOD FISH AND CHIPS AROUND HERE?!

We ate at F.O.T.H. last night for the first time in quite a while and the food is as good as ever. Our server was super friendly and attentive. The halibut was great, and with just the right amount of lemon-dill sauce (not swimming in it.) Nice salad, rice, great grilled veggies. You can enjoy a healthy meal & at a very reasonable price. I wish they'd turn their attention to seating comfort so that it would be easier to stay and relax over wine or dessert. I recommend sitting at a table & chairs in the center of the room rather than on the benches, or use your coat for a back support.

I was craving clam chowder a couple of days ago and I thought that this was the best opportunity to try this place out. I've been eying this place for a while now but like I said in some of my previous reviews on yelp, I'm not a big sea food person. =] Anyways on with the review. My Order: Bowl of Clam Chowder (~$3.99) w/ bread Small Appetite Section : Fish and Chips (w/ tartar sauce and a side of cole slaw) (~$4.99) The clam chowder wasn't "terrific." But it was decent. It lacked some flavor and I personally liked the amount of clam that they put in their soup. In my opinion and my opinion only, I felt that this soup was too watery... I don't know if that makes any sense knowing that its a soup, but there was something about it that I didn't like. They also gave you a tiny piece of slice bread. Which I did not like at all. The amount was too small and I'm the type of person who likes to dip my bread and crackers in my soup :( Small Appetite ; Fish and Chips : For 4.99 I thought it was a pretty decent amount of food. You have a bowl of what ever you want. I picked Fish and Chips with Clam Strips . I've had better :/ enough said. The waitress was really nice, they are very friendly and they seem like they are on their toes walking back and forth in the kitchen and out on the floor. My overall experience with this place is ehh.. It's ok. I'd probably come back and try more things on there menu but for now.. I think I'll take a little break from this place. =/

The fish-n-chips, clam chowder bread bowl, and seafood platter are all good. The service is friendly, and they're pretty quick. This place is small including the limited tables, so try to avoid lunch-hour.
