Burgers were good - not great. Fries are ok at best but they give you a very large portion for the price. Although, if I'm going to pay $7 for a burger, I might as well pay $3 more at another restaurant for a burger that's great and also not a fast food burger.

My brother is a Chef in LA who swears that In and Out Burger is the best burger for the money around. I highly disagree. Five Guys has the best $6 burger around. I don't like their fries and I haven't tried anything else on the menu but the burger is outstanding for the money. Though it's much better to eat it at the restaurant than to take it home to eat later.

Dad and I came for lunch on a weekend. It was our first time at this location. Dad had his usual burger and I tried the hot dog for the first time. Dad really liked his burger. It was juicier than the last few he ate at other Five Guys locations. (He was ready to give up on the place.) I REALLY enjoyed my hot dog. It had been sliced long-ways down the middle and grilled, then served on a hot dog bun with plenty of toppings. I was surprised by how good the hot dog was at the "burger place." As always, the fries were hand-cut and there's a sign telling which farm they came from. The portion size is very generous! I'm also glad they provide fry sauce. Yum! Downtown was pretty empty and this restaurant was, too. The lack of paying customers made it very obvious when some of the clearly homeless people would use the south entrance to bee-line directly to the bathrooms and then head right back out the door. I didn't feel very safe, and I certainly would have felt less safe if I were eating alone or trying to eat with kids. Restrooms were spacious and pretty clean, especially considering the above.

My first visit to 5 Guy Burgers. First time through, I ordered double cheese burger and a medium soda. Nicely prepared. I then ordered another double cheese burger and a plain patty, on the side, to go. When my order was ready, there was a double burger, no cheese. No second patty! I told the counter person. I felt he just wanted me to leave so the hamburger stand could be closed. I felt I was given the 'heave ho'. I don't want 'free stuff'. Tom Quinn

I never felt compelled to eat here before because I wasn't that impressed with the one on Milwaukee, but we often go downtown with our kids and it's family friendly. The "little" cheeseburgers are not that little, and a large order of fries was more than enough for my family to share. My husband had a regular burger, and admitted a little cheeseburger would have been sufficient, and he likes a big burger, so that's saying something. While I could see a place like Smashburger giving Five Guys a run for their money, I'd forgo a burger altogether and eat Subway or something before In 'N Out. It's not even good for a fast food burger. I don't get why I keep seeing it pop up as the baseline for a good burger.

This was our 8th stop on Burgerpalooza (a quest for the best effing burger in B-town!). This is a hard place to review because, on the one hand, I love their burgers and on the other, I am annoyed at the lackadaisical (I KNEW when I was 14 and Sister Mary Margaret called my attitude "lackadaisical" that I would one day have an opportunity to use that word--this, my people...Is. That. Day.) service. Let's begin with the yum: The burgers are hand formed, never frozen ample patties of juicy deliciousness. Their fries are made from local potatoes and are also never frozen, are hand cut, and are on the thicker side of things (yay!). They have fry sauce (double yay!), which is great, given my affection for getting saucy with my fries. So, from a strictly--get your burger/fry fix stand point--this place absolutely delivers. The lackadaisical: First off, when I went to get my soda (self serve), as I had just begun filling my cup, the diet soda (can't remember if it was coke or pepsi) began to sputter. Dang. But, no worries, I thought, as they had another machine that also featured the same sort of diet soda so I hopped over to that machine and pressed the button and out came a stream of clear soda water. Annoying. Then, after only half filling my fry sauce container--the fry sauce ran out. And, this was on a very slow Sunday night (we practically had the place to ourselves). We let them know, they told us they would take care of it, came and retrieved the canister but never returned it. In fact, we went to a nearby bar (Bonefish) for after dinner cocktails and when we walked by an hour and a half later--they still hadn't refilled the fry sauce. And, yes, we could have complained for a second time--but we were a large group and were too busy socializing to track down the sauce. But, seriously folks...you load people up with fries like you do (they are VERY generous in their servings of fries), you need to deliver the sauce. Period. Other notes: If you don't ask for your cheeseburger to be a "little" one, you'll get two patties. I get their "little" cheeseburger and it is absolutely ample. So...for the purpose of Burgerpalooza...where does this place rank as far as burger freshness, quality, and taste: easily the second best burger in Boise (from the places we've hit thus far). 4+ stars. From a service stand point? Barely 2.

Five guys is a great burger joint! Fresh ingredients, including non-frozen beef and hand-cut french fries, Yum! They have a sign identifying which farm the potatoes actually came from. Plus, you get a TON of fries in your bag... probably enough to share with a friend... if you wanted to.......... or not!

I stopped in for the first time and ordered a double bacon cheeseburger. I like the fact that I can pick what I want in it. I'll make it easy and order it with everything! The burger patties itself were very good and cooked to perfection and juicy! The fries... spot on and fry sauce! Oh myyy! I am glad I'm from the west and know what fry sauce is thanks to Article Circle! Only complaint is the cheese wasn't melted to perfection but as far as a damn good burger goes? They have it. I wouldn't necessarily make it a regular stopping point for a burger due to the price but you get what you pay for and that's freshness.

We were in the Boise area for several days following a family member's wedding & staying at The Grove during our visit. We were delighted to see a Five Guys just across the street, vowing we would be here a few times to sample their fare. Meh. I like their burgers just fine. My wife LOVES them...that being said I should mention we're from Southern California. I'll be honest with you, I'm still an IN-N-OUT fan through & through, the wife looks like she's jumping ship & heading to the dark side. I'll give Five Guys this...its a bit bigger & juicier, but this does not mean its better tasting. A-OK for me. Enjoy! deez® out!

Only good thing about this place are the fries. The burgers are not that special or great. Ordered the double mushroom and got more mushrooms than burger patty. Even with 2 patties the burger felt mediocre at best. Greasy mushrooms and a soggy bun. Came out to $12 with drink and fries and still felt hungry afterwards. If you want a real burger and fries, try a local place.

I went to Five Guys and Fries in Downtown Boise.. I didn't quite like the prices but what I had was a little bacon burger with tomatoes, grilled onions and mushrooms, i really liked it... I also order a big fry and had to take some of them home.. I really like them... and the free peanuts was great.. Probably will go back. when I have more money to spend on dinner..

I'll agree the fries are very good, but after that I don't see the attraction. The beef while never frozen doesn't seem to be that special, flavor is just ok. The buns generally are too soft for my taste and fall apart if you've loaded it up with toppings. The bacon is deep-fried and doesn't have much bacon flavor. A regular order of fries is enough for 3-4 people as they over fill the cup they place the fries into. I like knowing where the potatoes are grown, this is a big plus for me living in Idaho, unfortunately this is not enough of a draw to get me to go there except infrequently. It's just not good enough value. The price exceeds the taste.

Regular size fries are best for splitting between two people. Or maybe if you're an NFL lineman you could handle them on your own.

I tried a Five Guys once. Like 8 years ago in NYC. I think it gave me an instant heart attack. I remember the grease dripping off the burger and onto my lap. My second Five Guys experience - at this Boise location was a complete 180. The burger was delicious and there wasn't the flow of fat and grease cascading off the buns. The only thing I regret is that I ordered a side of fries instead of a second burger!

It's a fast food burger at restaurant prices with restaurant wait time. Wife and I went there... She got a burger and I got a dog. My dog had enough ketchup and mustard for 4 hot dogs. Her burger had so much sauce she couldn't even eat it. Buns got soaked and fell apart while eating. Skip this place for meals. May be good for a cup of fries as a midday snack, but that's it. So many better choices for lunch/dinner within walking distance.

I just don't see the draw to a burger, fries and small coke served in a greasy bag for $10.78. And I get the pleasure of serving myself in a drab red and white decorated fast food type of place, surrounded by posters telling me how great they are. This downtown BODO location never seems busy. If In and out moves in with a better burger and almost six dollars cheaper...this place is toast!
