Tonight I ordered the fish sandwich only to find it in edible! It was 4 small pieces of over battered over cooked fish. It was supposed to be cod which has a mild flavor and smell. This smelled like old fish. Do not order!

Have only ever stopped in a couple of times while driving past for an ice cream cone, but I'm glad I did. The cones are huge and it takes a while to get through them. I should have known because they're not exactly cheap. However, they are very tasty! One day I'll stop by and try their other food but the service has always been quick and friendly, so they get 4 stars from me, and I'll be looking forward to sampling more of the menu soon.

This place has some really great burgers and fries. Their finger steaks are by far the best I've found in the boise area. Their milkshakes are really great as well. I always get the butterfinger milkshake. Worth the drive every time.

HAD TO FINISH THIS REVIEW : Had this place last week, the staff was kinda impatient until we told them that we'd never been there before then they backed the eff up and let us take our time reading the crazy black blobbed font on their menu. I was left wondering how the seniors read the menu with the blobby font smashed onto small signs on the menu??? Lots of variety on the menu was a plus, but the number of flavors of shakes was kinda like, "Are they just squirting syrup in vanilla ice cream and that's how they have like 100 different flavors then charging 4 toes?" had mushroom swiss burger and fries. It was good. Noticed that the prices were a bit high for the quality of the burger and fries. I'm a total fan of matching price and quality, so that was kinda take it or leave it . . . it's better than BurgerKIng or Boise Fry's so . . . The styrafoam is kinda obnoxious. Is that why the prices are higher than the quality? Because it cost more? Or it's a "blast from the past" type thing?Just wondering. They have an option of jello w/ one of their dinners and actual fry sauce, but not the good kind :(

I always get a kick going here. The budget burger deluxe is the way to go. Less fuss and more burger. Forget the chain stores aka Smash Who-gers? I prefer the mom and pop shops that are timeless. How long has Big Bun been on the corner of Overland and Curtis? A very long time! My personal favorite includes the cherry scotch and soda. Large is truly a large that you wouldn't be able to finish.

This is an awesome burger spot easily accessible from the main highway. My husband and I were passing through town and stopped here based on their reviews as we wanted the local burger experience. The food is awesome! My husband really liked the Baldy Bob (burger with bacon) and I had an awesome fish sandwich. And the fish sandwich was actually made from a real fish fillet rather than of questionable square origin. They had a ton of ice cream dessert offerings and we would've considered it if not so full from our meal. This place is excellent for a quick burger, fish, and fries.

I'm not a big fan of ice cream or a milkshake out of a machine but I do like the huckleberry malt. Wanted to try something different so I ordered a fish sandwich (in-house battered cod with in-house made tarter). Wow...so good. The halibut sando is $8.99 so for $4.99 this is an awesome alternative! I would order it anytime. I will have to now spend 9 buck and try the halibut sandwich!

Went here for lunch with some co-workers. Burger, tots and portions were great. We had a Optimus coupon that we wanted to use. The very friendly and helpful employee called the owner over to show him how to ring it up. The owner/manager told the employee (not the customer who was standing right there) that we couldn't use it and walked away. No word to us. The employee was very nice about it but the owner/manager was a total jerk! Don't put out coupons if you aren't going to accept them. Wish I could give it more stars but his actions left a bad taste in my mouth. Probably wont go back.

Milkshakes and delicious hamburgers. I could end the review there. I read Tim's review and thought Tim must be on crack because the hamburger was much better than a frozen hamburger. I think he would be happier at McDonalds with the chubby white trash. In fact, I don't think he would know a good burger if it hit him in the back of the head. but seriously, the burger I had was delicious and so was the marshmellow milkshake. Will come back soon. Not crazy about the location but the food is worth it.

The relatively recent remodel brought poorer quality food. Burgers smaller and fattier. Tots much greasier. No reason to ever return sadly.

Delish!! The raspberry milkshake not only had a ton of flavor it tasted like real raspberries not the icky syrup. The fish sandwich was hand breaded cob not pressed fish you get other places and it was big for only 5 bucks!!

Been going there for years, then fancy freeze bought it out and changed everything, even though they say they didn't. Went there last night to get some budget burgers the meat in them is half of what it used to be, and they don't toast the bun any more. They were told not to mess with the food.

Milkshakes and malts: 40 flavors! And that's before you combine any. Prices are unbeatable. Super service. Location is fine, don't worry.

I actually really enjoy the food here. The burgers are great, very juicy. I usually go with the double bacon burger. Side items have always been fresh and tasty. The bad: Everything is overpriced. Getting special orders correct is hit and miss, so I saved myself the trouble and just order straight off the menu. Last but certainly not least, they are outrageously slow making the food. I'll eat there again eventually, but I certainly won't be going out of my way for this place.

Great place. I love the new deck summer or winter it is heated. Huge menu, great shakes, love the Russian burger and a scotch and soda.

This place used to be so much better. Now it's average. Gone now is the delicious finger steak burger and the fresh and delicious fish sandwich. The tots, fries, onion rings etc have all been replaced with average frozen food you can find in a gas station. The prices also much higher than what they once were. Wish the family who made this place so good didn't sell it off.

Not impressed! Came here with a bunch of people after floating the river. Very slow (but apparently it's because they were training). Ordered two meals both with fries, ended up receiving one portion of tots for both meals. The girl traded the tot for a fry and then said she'd get me another fry. After ten minutes of waiting, I asked for the fry asked and she said she gave then to me already. Then asked to see my receipt! The bacon cheese guacamole burger that I ordered had no guacamole on it either. The food was good when I got it though...that's why I gave it 2 stars.

This was our 5th stop on Burgerpalooza--in search for the best effing burger in B-town. We gave this place an average of 3.37 stars. So, definitely an a-ok experience. We did find their burgers a cut above the burgers we were served at Fanci Freez (since they've now merged with Fanci Freez, we were concerned it would be pretty much the same food). Their highest marks came in the fries category. Their lowest marks came in the freshness category. What your dealing with here is your basic burger experience without anything terribly memorable about it. The patties are frozen which, as we're now 5 stops into this burger adventure and we've yet to come across a place that doesn't use frozen patties (bummer), has become sadly commonplace. The veggies and burger buns were also lacking in freshness. Their fries, though definitely tasty, also likely had frozen origins (as with every other stop so far). I feel like, my review isn't matching the 3 star result and sounding more 2 stars. It really was a 3 star experience. I guess 5 stops in, I AM a little disappointed at the frozen meat/fry thing. However, did it get the job done? Yes. Was it delicious? No, but it was solid. Would I go back? If convenient, yes. I did not partake in this place prior to the Fanci Freez merger so I cannot comment on whether the food is up to the usual Big Bun par but for us it was a-ok.

Good burger. Okay fries. Limited fry sauce is better than none. I will come back here.

Love their burgers and drive in atmosphere. Excellent kids servings as well. They use real meat. They have excellent milkshakes as well tons of variety to choose from. Personal favorites are pineapple and orange.

I'm just a sucker for old school classics. The baldy bob is a party in my mouth. Gotta get the root beer and tots to finish it off.

I've visited this Big Bun before with no problems... I hate to say that this visit was a complete disappointment... I ordered a bag of burgers, and wanted 3 with no mustard as I am not supposed to have it. When I got home all of the burgers had mustard on them. We also ordered a Peanut Butter Cup, Heath Bar shake, which they made as a peanut butter cup, hot fudge one. They gave us that one, which was cool but the one they remade for us was also wrong. The fries tasted old and when I've ordered a Jumbo Cherry Lemonade before I actually got a jumbo. The one I got today was more like a large and had four cherries in it, they usually have WAY more. Seeing how it was raining and I've been ill I did not feel like going back out of the house to fix all of the mistakes and I shouldn't have to. I hate to say it, but I'm pretty sure Big Bun just lost my business forever. Tldr; Nothing but mistakes and old tasting food.

I've never actually had any food here but I'm assuming it's similar to the non-chain fast food restaurants like Fanci Freeze and Hawkins Pac-out. The ice cream choices they have are wide spread and they all are pretty darn good. I'd recommend you check out the Oreo ice cream it melts my heart and in my mouth. Service is always quick.

Usually love fancy freez and big bun but I got some tots and poppers this evening and the tots were cold in the middle and the poppers were still frozen in the middle. what a waste of money.

I live by this joint. I've run through the drive through a bunch. Getting your order correct here is like winning the lotto. I'm 0/3 on getting what I ordered on my last three trips through the drive through. I order my meal "Small fry and a hamburger with meat, lettuce and bun only, please." Sometimes I get ketchup. Sometimes I get cheese. Sometimes I get it without lettuce. What I always get is a huge hassle when I go back to try and get what I actually ordered. First they want to make it very clear, you ordered wrong. They always make a point to say "we heard plain" or "we heard cheeseburger". I never really have an argument here. I know you got it wrong. That's why I drove all the way back here while everyone else in my family is at home eating. I always just say "that may be true, but what I actually said was "meat, lettuce, bun only". Then I just repeat it over and over like Rain Man until they walk away. Next someone else will call you back to the window to tell you "we can't remake the whole order". It doesn't matter if you never asked them to. They will make it very clear that under no circumstances will they remake the whole order. "I not asking for that. Just the burger made wrong and some new fries to go with the new burger." What's that you say? You want to eat your whole meal at the same time?!? In my opinion, since I don't eat any of the fries and bring them back with the burger, getting my whole meal warm at the same time is reasonable. That is not the Big Bun philosophy. One time they called me back up to ask me if there was something wrong with the fries too. I usually just offer to buy new fries. You gotta pick your battles and you can't argue with crazy. If you don't want to make dinner and live close by, drop in for average drive through food. Just don't be all pushy about getting what you ordered. The whole debate team works here and they don't give a rip how you like your burger. To be fair, one of the seventeen times I brought my incorrect order back, they offered to give me a milkshake. So there is that.

Love this place but the prices are way too high for fast food. I rarely treat myself to it because of that.

Not fast... however worth the wait. Tasty doublle burger. Will return. The desserts sound amazing! Big menu to choose from.

Garbage. First time cheeseburger, tater totes and fry sauce. Extremely thin patty overcome with lettuce filler, oily and burnt tasting tater totes and packaged fry sauce. Yuk. One bite and threw it out. Have to find either a Carls or Bad Boy Burger asap!

This is the place to get your burgers! I always get the big bun! We don't have to wait a long time for our food to be made and there is no line most of the time. Tater tots are awesome to. It is outdoors but it is air conditioned. Also, the desserts are great too! I love the Boston shake! Chocolate chip with hot fudge, yummy! The best fast food around! Sure you have to deal with a few flies but the food is worth it! What are you waiting phone! :D

We came here to get shakes and share an order of fries. We ordered at the drive thru. Everything seemed great looking at the menu and I liked that you could order a super small shake to avoid over-indulging. Then we got to the window where, after a couple minutes of sitting there, I looked in the window and I could see our two shakes sitting, probably melting, and out French fries, probably getting cold. There was a guy right at the window looking at the computer but not doing much else. He didn't look at us or acknowledge us for at least ten more minutes. He could have reasonably only taken one other order based on the car behind us, but even still, he could have easily waited a moment to let us pay and give us our food....I have no idea what he was thinking or doing. Finally he gave us our food without even acting at all sorry that we were waiting at the window for far too long when our food was clearly done and ready for us. The food itself was fine. The shakes were good but I wasn't super impressed... Plus they were a little melted. The fries were yummy but not warm anymore. But the overall poor service made the experience very disappointing.

My girlfriend and I stopped in here recently to grab some quick dinner and I was quite happy we did. I just got the bacon cheeseburger but it was well made and delicious. Friendly service at the walk up window and a quick return on our order means we'll definitely be going back. My only issue us that I asked for a side of fries and they gave me tater tots but they were delicious so I ate them anyway.

Since the Big Bun/Fanci Freeze merger, I've noticed that the quality of Big Bun's burgers has gone downhill - but, having the option of getting Fanci Freeze treats makes it a little better (Boston Shake anyone?). I've NEVER liked the food at Fanci Freeze, but their ice cream goodies are GREAT! I hope that Big Bun can come back from the slump - their burgers used to be the best! Last time I was there I got a cheeseburger combo: cheeseburger, fries, and unsweetened ice tea. The meat patty was soooo small, and there were pieces of other fried food in with my fries (gross), and I've always wished they would make their own fry sauce. Big Bun is good, but not great.

Thought I'd give this place a try. Ordered double cheese burger, tater tots, and a butterscotch milk shake. The milk shake was thick and delicious! Tater tots were hot, fresh, and crispy! The burger, not so good. The texture of the patty was soft and spongy (weird for a burger). It was tasty, just the texture thing was a little off putting.

Sorry, Emile...dropped in to the Bun after picking up a kiddo from a sleepover and we were both a little hungry. Over the summer, this place added "budget burgers", .85 or .95 each, fabo for after a day at the pool! I had heard about Big Bun's great ice cream from some locals but after living in Boise 14 years that was all we had tried...delish, btw! Budget burger are a TEN! Sunday's deluxe burger....meh. Had the right fixings for a great burger...but Tim had it right, sadly.

Great food and dessert. Everyone there seems like they love working there, which is a great sign in my book. Boston Shakes are a must, hot fudge over heath, you'll thank me later!

We went to this place on recommendation of a co-worker. Also, I had a Boise Noon Optimist card which gave us a discount. We were hungry for a burger so decided to give Big Bun a try. It took a little while for the food to arrive, not a big deal as presumably they were making everything fresh. I got a double cheeseburger, the wife a single, we shared a large fries. The burgers were OK, just that. The same ol' frozen, dry, grissly, pre-formed, pre-packaged hamburger you can get anywhere. I can't even describe the condiments they put in it either, but I do remember shredded lettuce. It was edible and I was hungry. The fries were cooked well and crispy. But I think they were pre-packaged fare as well, having some kind of flavoring. Good but artificial. Conclusion: Will not go here again. If I want a burger, I'll go to Big Juds'.
