Great spot for coffee and baked good. Family-run coffee place with very cozy booths/sofas and tables for a quiet study break or lazy chat-time with friends. Absolutely fabulous house-baked pound cakes which are hugely thick-sliced!! OMG, they were so moist and delicious and not overly sweet. Coffee and a slice, what a great combo!! Will be sure to try some other goods as well!

On weekends you'll mostly find people buried in books or on their computer doing work. Sometimes people are meeting and having discussions, but mostly it's very quiet. The environment trumps the coffee or baked goods simply do to the motivation of the clientele. I once got a cup of coffee here without my work and felt guilty for being the only one enjoying my beverage. You come here to get things done! I'll be back to sit for many more hours with my iced mocha sweating beside me.

The Pros: -Lots of tables, outlets and WiFi The Cons: -The coffee is terrible. If you think Starbuck's serves good coffee you'll be fine. If you are a bit more discerning you'll be let down hard. -The snacks are mainly bulk-bought muffins and cookies. Nothing special. -The quality of service varies wildly, depending on who's behind the counter. It is clearly poorly managed and there is no attention to detail.

Disappointed in the way you would treat people with service animals. I suggest you review the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) - a well behaved and trained service dog does no harm to your business, but your disregard for the law and behavior towards a customer with a service dog has earned yourself some attention that you otherwise would not have received (I would imagine). I hope this is an opportunity for the owner to learn from their mistakes and to offer a sincere public apology to anyone they have illegally mistreated by denying them access to their business as required by Federal law.

The place is very friendly and nice for those who want to find a quiet place to study. I always order a tea here, never had a coffee, so I am not sure about the coffee.

Good study spot and really good brewed coffee. Staff is very friendly and cookies are solid! Variations on coffee drinks are very good as well. My wife enjoys the Chai drinks here and I found they make a mean "espresso shot in drip coffee" (A rival chain sent Tierra a letter stating we could not make reference to their version of this). The outdoor seating is very nice on a midwest spring or fall evening and, most importantly, the internet is free! Great little local spot to grab some good brew and kick back for a bit, be it to study, catch up or just chillax.

I didn't expect much from Tierra Coffee, mainly because of the location. The best chai I have had in Iowa City. It had plenty of seating and was very comfortable.

Good management, but the barista makes it worth the visit. The well "fussed over" cup o jo was excellent, coffee bar available too. Though it is nearly disguised inside a somewhat neglected facility; cleanliness was acceptable, just waiting to be upgraded to something more. Nice selection of baked goods. A worthwhile upgrade from the franchises that are just seconds away from this front door.

It's a good coffeeshop with good wifi, and nice decor. It's not a particularly quiet place to study or relax though. I was looking for a place to study, and saw the reviews - I tried this place but it was overrun with undergrads. I've been there twice and it's been crowded (though I always found an open table) and noisy both times.

This place is great - if you ask for something not on the menu, like say, a short latte, they do it perfectly instead of say, "We only have one size," like other so-called coffeeshops (ie. Java house). Friendly service too...

A great place for quiet studying and coffee. Granted, Tierra doesn't have the fancy exotic coffee or the feel of a lazy living room, but it does provide for a great place to read and study. The food is tolerable (Co-op is accessible in same plaza) and the decent drinks are reasonably priced. The hours and free parking are excellent for any student that's cramming for exams and there's free Wi-Fi to distract you from your studies. The shop keeper's very friendly and accommodating. Most of all, they would never put restrictions on the patrons (i.e. Java house's ONE HOUR use of tables for studying signs). If you are looking for a change of venue or trying to avoid running into your ex at the campus... this place is a winner. Hint: bring your own music (if you are picky about what's being played overhead).

Great lil cafe. Good atmosphere. Good coffee. Free WiFi. My fav place to get some work done outside the house. Also a great meeting place with friends, etc. Only tiny complaint - itd be awesome if they started serving sandwiches, etc...

Great place to study! Tierra is a good change of pace from similar coffee shops in IC. Free parking, decently big tables, free wi-fi and lots of outlets make for a good combination. Plus the coffee is pretty decent, although I agree with an earlier comment about how perfect it would be if they sold sandwiches.

Nice place to stop after a meeting and before heading home. Coffee selection made VERY easy by the "order board" listed in order of brew strength. And, and the Dark end of the list, I love the Crescent City chickory brew (fits my NOLA cravings).

Sometimes, I feel like treating myself to a good study location. So I go to Tierra. I usually go on weekends, and the ambiance there almost makes me feel good about studying! The facts: Coffee prices are about average, wifi is reliable, and they have a frequent buyer card where if you buy 9 cups, you get one free. Lots of outlets for your laptops, and nice-sized booths and tables for studying alone or with a friend. One negative is their background music. It is sometimes so bland and boring that it's distracting. I suggest bringing your own music player or earplugs to drown it out.

As the reviews say, a great place to study - so it what you want is to hole up with a bottle of water or some mediocre coffee, this is for you. However, the brewed coffee is bad and the espresso undrinkable. And, since it is a study spot, not a good place for conversation, games, open mics, etc. If you are looking for good coffee or a neighborhood coffee house, look elsewhere.

They were open last year and this year on Christmas. It was a super place for our family: teens, little people, and gabby middle-aged sisters to get together for some chat and brew before the horrendous chore of Christmas dinner. And the only barista there was warm, friendly and generous. also, I love the beautiful cherry-colored woods of the interior space. Plus, it's in a pretty place in Coralville.

It's our Coralville neighborhood coffeehouse. Unusual layout is great for students looking for a spot to open up the books. Brewed coffee is good. Lattes are decent (flavor is adequate), but I haven't seen any fancy latte art like you might see at Brewed Awakenings in Cedar Rapids. Although, maybe they've got someone who can do that now. Never know. Prices are perfectly reasonable.

We got 2 espresso based drinks here. The drinks tasted good. There was a good chocolatey flavor in the mocha. It wasn't thin or watery. It could have used slighty less sweetener to MY taste. The were many people in the shop for a Sunday night.

After a marathon event at the co-op across the parking lot, we stopped into Tierra to whet our whistles on a warm September eve. Wasnt sure what i wanted - so i pulled the- 'what do you recommend' and she passed me a passion ice tea that was spot on. Even tho they were close to closing- the service was patient and kind. (and we sat by the oohlala turqoise waterfowl fountain outside) (free wireless w purchase)

Basic coffee shop based after a Starbucks model. Fresh brewed coffee is good. Fast free Internet. Service is fast and friendly. Good place to hold up and study. It's an okay coffee shop. Nothing special or outstanding about it to warrant a higher rating than 3 stars. Snacks are some what limited. Fancy Strip mall setting, but a strip mall none the less. I'd say it is equal to Pete's coffee shop. Music is non intrusive, nice to have in the background.
