The only Hot and Sour soup I have found in the Iowa City area worth eating. I live on this when I am sick/congested. Their Thai Basil dishes are nice, but could use more aromatics in the sauce.

This restaurant inspired me to write my first yelp review. Dirt-cheap food at non-dirt-cheap prices. Atmosphere: Old split-level house style building badly in need of updates and repairs. A/C was broken and it was uncomfortably hot inside. Chairs were covered in plastic, but plastic was badly torn, as well as upholstery, causing the shards of plastic to poke my legs the entire meal. Little effort was put into decorating. Phone was loudly and incessantly ringing off the hook. No music to muffle the conversations of nearby tables. Cleanliness: Everything felt moist and sticky. Before we were seated, the waitress brushed crumbs off the table onto the chairs we were supposed to sit in. Service: Waitress was dressed unprofessionally in frayed cut-off booty shorts. Food: Husband and I ordered the Family Style dinner for 2, with choice of two entrees (all chicken options), rice, soups, spring rolls, and crab rangoons. Crab rangoons were decent but were more breading than filling, and contained so little crab I thought it was just a rangoon, sans-crab. Hot and sour soup was inedibly salty ( coming from a salt addict). Egg drop soup was good. S&S chicken tasted like pre-formed, frozen chicken nuggets half comprised of breading. Garlic chicken was also way too salty. Fried rice was unusual and we did not eat it. Did not finish the meal and did not get to-go boxes. Overall: Would never go back. Poor utilization of $30.

GOT DELIVERY The seaweed salad is literally mushy seaweed over iceberg lettuce...not worth $4. Pu-Pu platter had too much breading. Crab rangoons were filled with literally a teaspoon of cream cheese, hard to bite into. Me and my boyfriend got sesame chicken and general tao's chicken. I thought I was going to get food poisoning it was so bad. The breading was so crappy. It was mushy as well and had a weird flavor to it. I threw the whole box away after a few bites, it was so bad. The only good thing I had was the egg rolls. Love those. Never ordering again.

We had our food delivered and it tasted like it had been sitting around for hours. My Japanese noodles were super salty, and they really could have used some greens to freshen them up. The pad see euu could have been better if it was fresh, but the noodles were stiff and dry. Not impressed at all

Their food is pretty good and price is affordable. There's nothing really special to say about this place. Staff was a bit sparse.

i'd really wish i can give these guys more stars but i just can't. this is lowering my hopes for real Chinese food. while they have quite an extensive menu, at least the stuff we tried wasn't impressive. the meat was pretty dry, and the veggies didn't taste fresh. oh...beware of the appetizer named the pu pu platter...it kinda is pu pu. what's up with the use of cream cheese in asian food (that's right sushi places, please take note)....it belongs on bagels, not in wontons. i miss the San Gabriel valley dammit

On a good night, this place is my second favorite place in the I.C. area. On a bad night, it is one of the worst. I have been here several times and it is pretty close to 50/50 that you'll get a great meal. I typically order standard American Chinese food: General's chicken, pork lo mein, crab rangoon, etc. There's been some nights where I'm impressed and other nights where I didn't even get chicken in my General's dish, just fried breading covered in sauce. It is one of the only places in the area where you can get authentic Chinese if that's your thing. There's usually several tables of international students eating things I don't recognize. Lastly, the building itself is kind of run down. The bathroom is on par with one you'd encounter at a gas station in the Ozarks. I recommend using the buddy system. I've never done take-out or delivery, so I can't comment on that experience.

Probably the best chinese food in the area. Order off their authentic chinese food menu, some of it may sound like a stretch but why not try something different, pork belly, tripe, squid. All are good. Unfortunately, Iowa is not graced with awesome Chinese places but when I get a craving, Szechwan Village is my cure.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
