I've visited Haveli a several times now and the food has always been consistently good. The wait staff is prompt, courteous and knowledgeable. I'm gluten and dairy free. They've always been good about answering my questions on what I can/can't eat, which I really appreciate. Hands down, my favorite dish there the is the Keema Mattar. It's a ground lamb dish with the perfect amount of spice to it. (I ask for medium spice.) I highly suggest you try it! The ambience is a little odd. It's a sit-down restaurant with TVs playing music videos. I'd like it to feel a little more homey. Even so, I enjoy the food and it's conveniently located with average pricing, so I keep going back. Recommended!

We noticed that this new spot just opened within the year and finally wanted to give it a try. For starters, we ordered the veggie samosas and I have to say I love the selection of chutneys/sauces. Pretty average samosas, but still worth ordering. My S.O. LOVES spicy so he went with the lamb vindaloo and we split a side of the "jalapeño" naan. However, they definitely slow-pitch on the heat. If you want spicy, be sure to emphasize that to your server. My lamb korma was delicious, although I wish it had more meat. Sooo creamy and the lamb was flavorful and tender. Would definitely order again. I prefer Haveli over Exotic India, but the 3 stars is mostly for service which was exactly: eh.

I had heard that the Iowa City/Coralville area was a good place for cross country travelers to find Indian food. Unfortunately, we arrived too late for lunch hours and too early for most places' dinner. Haveli was the only place that was open, and we were the only people there. The people working there were both very friendly and attentive, and we enjoyed the Indian music videos that were playing. Since we ordered from the dinner menu, we were only able to try a couple of entrees and some garlic naan. Both the chicken tikka masala and the saag mushroom were well prepared and tasty, with generous portions (we boxed up half of it for dinner) The dishes were unsurprising, but good. No room for dessert, but we did order drinks with our meal. Drinks were really excellent. Chai was fresh and very tasty, and the rose lassi was absolutely delightful.

TLDR : best Indian lunch buffet in Iowa City. It has the most entrees featuring even goat curry besides your normal tandoori chicken and chicken tikka masala. Plenty of saag and paneer dishes as well making it perfect for meat eaters and veggies alike. Another fan favorite is the 8 different sauces they offer including raita and cilantro chutney. Delicious and well done it's definitely the best Indian lunch buffet in Iowa City. I was kind of surprised it only had 3.5 stars at the time of me writing this review but maybe it's because I haven't experienced the dinner yet.

It was pretty good. I would come here again. The curries are more smooth and thinner than what I'm used to, but there are just so many different styles. I'm glad they aren't all the same. they have goat curry which was decent, and of course the typical chicken tikki masala. I had the lunch buffet on a Saturday which was $8.99 a person. Price is great!. they keep it very clean. they spray down and wipe down between each customer.

We stopped in on a random evening when we didn't quite know what we were in the mood for and we're glad we did. This place wasn't incredible, but was worth finding! We started with naan that was admittedly more like a flatbread/pita than what we're used to, however, it was still delicious. We had Keema naan with lamb and cilantro - It was really good! For dinner we decided to go classic with curry and tika masala - we decided to go medium for spicy as that generally means mild. These guys actually do spicy! The masala and curry were both flavorful and cooked perfectly. The portions were great and gave us enough to take home some for the next afternoon. Beer and wine were limited, but not restrictive - there was enough to choose from and we really weren't there for the libation selection. That said, they had a number of Indian beer selections that were nice to see again! The Bollywood music playing sets the ambiance for what Haveli is - a good authentic Indian place were the food and service were solid. Worth checking out.

We showed up with a group of 6 on a Monday evening for dinner. Food: 12 minutes for apps and took about 25 minutes to bring out dinner for 6 people. That was fast. The chicken 65 was more chilly chicken than anything. They were not even crispy (see Photos). My friends ordered a paneer app and they didn't really enjoy it. The biriyanis-vegetable and fish(see photo) - fell short. We were not impressed by the taste although it was a heaped plateful (good enough to share even though I wouldn't recommend it). The tandoori mixed grill was dry. The chicken karahi and paneer masala were really good and I hear that the lassi's were really good too. The price point for the dishes were reasonable, although I'm still bit disappointed about the chicken 65. Service: They were attentive without being intrusive. At one point we were afraid they had forgotten a drink, but it showed up a couple of minutes later, before we had a chance to remind them. Location/Decor: The decor was not much to talk about but it was kept very clean. Mostly party music playing in the background. Location is fantastic, because it's right by the Coralville Mall. Parking was easy, although the restaurant was mostly empty on a monday night.

I went to Haveli on the Sunday evening of its opening weekend and am glad that it has come to the Iowa City/Coraville Area. My group had several entree dishes (chicken makhani, lamb bhuna, and paneer masala) and several sides (paratha, garlic naan, veggie samosa). The dishes were all excellent, with the samosas being my particular favorite. The samosa filling was not as dry as samosa filling usually is; to me, this was a good point, although others might disagree. Also, whatever your entree, make sure to try the garlic naan, which had a more robust flavor than garlic naan usually has. I did not try the paratha, but my friends (authentic Indians) raved about it. This being a new place, there were some hiccups. The paneer came out a little bit cold, which suggests that it may have sat for a couple minutes while the other dishes were being made. Also, the naan came out last rather than immediately with or just prior to the serving of the entrees. Staff were very attentive and friendly, and gladly accommodated our request to move to a table away from the front window (it was a bit cold that day). Water glasses were frequently filled and the waiter seemed to earnestly care about the dining experience. He also welcomed feedback to help get the restaurant off to the strongest start possible. Regarding the decor, I would prefer less bright colors. The restaurant's orange/red scheme reminded me of a fast-food restaurant, and did not establish evening dinner ambiance. A darker color scheme, or maybe some dimmed lightbulbs + table candles could contribute to a more inviting atmosphere. Those are minor quibbles, given the very reasonable menu prices. You will feel like you are getting more than what you pay for. I would encourage those who enjoy Indian food to drop in. I'm looking forward to visiting again and trying more menu items.

Visited the restaurant for lunch buffet. This is a new restaurant. Ambience was good. Server took great care of us. Lunch buffet had great options. Food taste was the only thing that disappointed me. Most of the dishes lacked in flavor. Some had no salt or some had more turmeric. Bread was fresh and nice. Desserts were great!! A lot of options for $10 but, lack of authentic taste prevents me from visiting again.

I'm going to start by saying this rating will go up whenever I actually sit down to eat here. I tried to go to this place a few times, but it was always closed. I finally caught them open one night and placed a take-out order. When I picked it up, the host said, without a trace of irony or hyperbole, "well, you're going to love this, so let me know when you come back." I was convinced I'd be let down after a statement that hubristic--in fact, I expected to be. But the food really is that good. Even the "medium" spice level has a nice kick to it (I usually get this from North Indian places). The portion sizes are big (especially the biryani, which is enormous), and the flavor is actually flavorful and not just "generic for dainty American palates" flavorful. The kitchen prepares things well and quickly, and the decor is actually comfortable and home-y. I haven't sat down to eat there yet, but I plan to hit that buffet as soon as possible.

Absolutely wonderful food, atmosphere and staff. We had samosas, channa masala, aloo gobhi, malai kofta and every dish was fantastic. The naan was plentiful and warm. We'll be back often!

The place is nice and clean and the menu is pretty long. The waiting staff were also friendly. I just do not believe that the food is worth the above the average price. We ordered both chicken biryani and special biryani. The meal size is pretty big but it is pretty much only rice and we had a hard time finding pieces of meat. It was my first time trying it but turned out to be my last time too.

Nice little place to get decent Indian food in the Coralville/Iowa City area. In face probably the best Indian food choice in the area. The other places either overpower the tongue with cardamom or are incredibly bland. Here the use of spices is more sophisticated and the result is just flavorful food. It's not very hot on your tongue so definitely ask for high or medium if that's what you're looking for. Nice quiet ambiance and low cost. Casual and kid friendly.

Tried this recently-opened place during the lunch buffet and were very pleased. The Navratan Korma and Tandoori chicken were excellent. We agreed that the dishes had more spice than is typical for a buffet, which we liked. The waiter told us that this reflects the northern/Punjabi background of the owners. Service was prompt and pleasant, and price was comparable. Will return!

The 5 stars are for their cleanliness and friendly service. This is the cleanest of Indian restaurants I have ever been too. The lady (maybe the owner?) is very caring and quick. The other guy is nice also. Food is delicious, but the desserts are a little over-sugary. The decor and furniture are modest and comfortable, not too colorful and bright as in some Indian restaurants. This place has made my mom change her mind on Indian cuisine in a good way (that's a big relief for me :) ) We'll absolutely come back.

Considered this place awhile ago, but after purchasing a gift certificate, I decided to give it a try. I called them ahead of time to ask about the gift certificate and they said I could use it on carry out. When I arrived the lady took my certificate and went into the back. She then came out and informed me that they didn't take the certificate anymore. She says they've canceled online. If that was so, then how could I purchase it? She said they still take the coupon if it was purchased exactly 2 months before. I was frustrated and demanded answers. I said I talked to someone and they replied "Oh, that was just someone who works here". First off, yes, yes he does work there. So he should know what's going on and if you accept a gift certificate or not. Second, I heard him ask a lady, who I recognized as her voice. After arguing, they weren't budging and asked if I could even afford their food. My boyfriend and I were looking forward to Indian and I didn't care to fight any longer and just bought it. I had the chicken tikka masla and my boyfriend had the chicken korma. The food was fine, for the most part. My chicken tasted like a peppery tomato soup, which I actually liked. The garlic naan was limp and cold. Didn't have much of a taste. Overall, the food is fine. Seems a bit overpriced. The people seem pretty rude.

We are big fans of Indian food, and Haveli is a fantastic addition to the Indian cuisine in the Iowa City/Coralville area. We've eaten there twice now, and have been equally impressed with the quality of the food, the service, and the atmosphere of the restaurant. Definitely recommended for any lovers of Indian food.

I was very excited to try the new Indian place in the area. Unfortunately, I was severely disappointed. I am vegan and always check ahead of time to make sure vegan options are available, which in Indian cuisine is normally not a problem. According to the menu at Haveli, all veggie main dish items can be made vegan upon request. I attempted to order the mushroom curry but was told that could not be made vegan, so I went with my second option, Aloo Gobi, I was also told by the waitstaff that this could not be made vegan. I asked why the menu says that veggie items can be made vegan by request and he became rude and told me that the only thing that could be made vegan was the vegetable Jafrezi. I am not a huge fan of that dish to begin with but was tired of arguing and wanted something to eat besides poori. The dish was terrible. It was cold and the vegetables were soggy. Also, I found a hair in the middle of my poori. I was also shocked as cooking Indian foods myself and having been to a variety of Indian restaurants, making a dish vegan is not difficult and actually quite common. I was surprised at the waiter's rudeness, especially when their menu explicitly states that dishes can be made vegan upon request. I will never return to this restaurant.

Much like Lauren's review below, the service was superb. The food reflected the Northern Indian palate of spiciness. Best Navratan Korma ever. Roti was to die for. Wished the restaurant was click see to home, as we would be weekly regulars.
