The waiter was so funny and nice. The food and drinks were delicious and affordable. I had plenty of fajitas left over for lunch the next day. The homemade salsa was especially memorable.

I knew it was a bad sign when we walked into a nearly empty restaurant. The overly tacky decor didn't help either. My hubby, kids, and I were seated and asked if we wanted drinks. I thought we'd receive chips and salsa right away, as most restaurants do, but that came maybe 20 minutes later, after the drinks had arrived. The server was a little pushy when it came to the drinks, trying to persuade us to get an alcoholic beverage. We overheard him giving another table the same spiel towards the end of our meal, making one lady feel uncomfortable enough to get the drink he suggested after she had already refused. The chips and pico de gallo were good, but way too small of a portion for four people! I could tell the chips were house made. My margarita was served in a tall glass, and very tasty, but I don't think there was that much alcohol inside, if at all... For $10, it felt like a ripoff!!! My hubby enjoyed his corona with lime, though. As for the keiki plates, my son's quesadilla could've used some salsa, but he enjoyed it. It came with only three pieces though, kinda small if you ask me. My other son got the tacos, but he didn't like the taste of them. I tried it and something just wasn't right. The ground beef tasted kind of strange. So my boys shared the quesadilla plate. My husband's chimichanga plate was decent. The tortilla was homemade, which is great, but not crispy enough. He ate most of it and said he liked it, however. I ordered an enchilada plate, with chicken and spicy red sauce. What I received was three tortillas folded in half and covered in this thick, dry red sauce. It wasn't really that spicy, and the sauce just had a strange taste, making me wonder how fresh it was. I ate mostly rice and beans, and picked on the enchilada before calling it quits. When we took the check up (it wasn't taken from the table promptly) I overheard the server/owner? telling my husband that he "must have plenty of money in the bank." I don't know why the man said that, but the comment was just unnecessary!! With that, I felt that I wasted "plenty money" at this establishment- almost $60 for sub-par food and atmosphere. We won't be returning, unfortunately.

If you are looking for awesome Mexican food, there is a little bit Mexico in Waianae by the name of Tacos & More. The Carned Asada is awesome and the Flan is great. What really surprised me were the abondegas also known as "meatballs". Totally delish, if you have the chance to check it out...do it. It is one the most unique places that serves a lot of beach goers too.

Fantastic service and margaritas!!! I don't even like margaritas and I ordered a double. My chimichanga was on point and the vibe is chill which I enjoy. Fergie playing in the back ground. Lol! Oh and the owner is handsome!

Of all the years that Tacos and More has been open....I have only been there just recently. The restaurant is open for lunch and for dinner. It is best to be at the restaurant before they close at 8:30pm. At first when you approach the entrance you'll see a small dining area as well as the kitchen. This section you are able to order your food for take out or to eat at one of the booths provided. Twice I came to the restaurant and ordered the 3 tacos with different meat fillings for take out. Chicken ranchero, cornitas (pork), shredded beef or ground beef. First time I had the soft tacos and on my second take out order i had the hard shell. Follow the hallway and you'll see another door that would lead you to a bigger dining area. The bigger dining area is divided into three sections. One section has a small full bar with the television screen and karaoke system setup. The middle section has the high tables and high chairs where you could watch the television from one of the tables plus there is a water fountain. The third section is for the larger groups. On one of my visits to the restaurant I decided to dine in after having worked a morning shift at my current workplace. I came for a late lunch. Javier the owner/host/bartender greeted me and told me to sit where ever I felt comfortable. It took a while for me to decide what I wanted to eat for my late lunch. I was debating on whether to try the enchiladas, the stuffed burrito, or the chimichangas. I ended up ordering a shredded beef burrito with rice filling (you could also have your burrito stuffed with beans). The shredded beef was a bit on the dry side for me. I had to drench it with some mild taco sauce to give it some extra flavor. I also ordered a mango margarita to drink....it came in a tall glass. While I was having my meal I was watching the television screen and it played music videos from Adam Lambert then to a country singer (can't remember his name) to Alejandro (don't know his last name). From what I found out....on Thursday nights there is wine tasting and wine education. Something to check out for individuals like myself who have never had wine before. BTW...the restaurant passed the health inspection. Individuals get a stamp on their PEPE CARD for every purchase of $10.95 or more and once the card is filled the person may redeem the card for a free meal.

Dont get the shredded beef burrito...burnt, extra dry, inedible!!! It was like the burnt grill scrapings from yesterday that you would have just thrown away...or gave it to your dog...but instead they thought to put that shit in my burrito...WTF plus the pico de gallo juice was all over the bottom of my togo container making the burrito all dakine....soggy diaper... fkn lose money.... but the garlic scrimp was not bad...

Nice atmosphere, food wasn't bad either! We made it in right as the kitchen was closing, very friendly staff. If you're in Makaha and need a Mexican food fix, this is the place. The chile verde torta was great!

  • Andria R.

Not great, not terrible. I've definitely had far superior Mexican food, but I've also had far worse. If you're living or vacationing on the west side and are jonesing for Mexican this will satisfy the craving, but don't expect authentic. And don't come expecting to get something as good as you'd find in Southern California. Get one of their fantastic margaritas though and you won't care (or possibly remember) that you're eating mediocre Mexican food.

  • Hector S.

I take my divers here after SCUBA diving on the westside everytime, and everyone is always impressed with the great taste of this authentic, Mexican cuisine. One thing I would like to hear though, is authentic Mexican music. Aside from that, great way to satisfy the taste buds Javier.

Food really good ! I usually go on a weekday during lunch and we it . But tonight on Friday night probably won't be doing again they had a live band and just way too crowded and hot ! One thing I can't stand is eating and sweating at the same time phew !! But I'll be back, my favorite is their Flautas bomb !!

We all had an excellent meal here last night. The sea bass was delicious. Prices reasonable for food bit a bit high for drinks. Service good, atmosphere very nice.

Anyway, I dined here for lunch on 9/20/14. The first thing I have to say is that finding the entrance to this placebcan be kind of tricky. They have 2 glass doors at 2 different locations of the business, of which bothe doors are locked. The main entrance is at the far end of the building and is easy to miss. The second thing is that they have both a dine in restaurant section and a drive-in section. The drive-in looks like your standard drive-in with no frills. I would actually say the restaurant section is where it's at. The place is very big, which surprised me. I was expecting just a couple tables but the place is huge. I thought it was interesting that we got complementary salsa and chips. Their chips looks like homemade, which I like. Their salsa is good too, with a lomi salmon consistency, which I like since it is different. Their appetizers were good. I highly recommend the tequila wings. It has a very good taste. I ordered the special taco platter and the it was huge. It came with 6 homemade tortillas and the platter had 3 different kinds of meats, and all the taco filling like refried beans, salsa, lettuce, and various other fillings. It was so huge I couldn't finish it. The desert menu is interesting. The have flan for dessert. They also make sundaes too. But their best dessert would have to be the bread pudding with orange sauce. The bread pudding comes warn,n with 3 huge slices, and is doused with a orange sauce, which is very sweet. I highly recommend the bread pudding with orange sauce for dessert. The customer service is excellent, with the server checking on us constantly during the meal. They even have Jarritos soda, which I consider the standard soda for Mexican restaurants. Great food and great customer service. If you dine in the restaurant side, ask for Heather. She is very fast, friendly, and provides great service. Highly recommend the place for anyone in Waianae looking for great Mexican food.

Good food and good atmosphere. Especially Thursday thru Saturday when they have live music. Great place to unwind after a long day. Love going there, one of my favorite spots on the west side.

We were warmly greeted by the host, Cello, a black cat. Cello directed us to a nice table outside the front door. Well actually, it was the owner, a native of Mexico City, that seated us. He offered us seating in the bar, but we preferred to be outside. We were told this was the only Mexican restaurant in the Hawaiian Islands. Is that true? The menu was a bit curious - next to the quesadillas was a picture of the Taco Time logo. We came here for tacos, but instead, JP went for pozole and me, the pork quesadilla. I also asked for iced tea, which turned out to be a nice, not too sweet, raspberry tea. After we placed our orders, Cello the Cat hopped onto a chair at our table, and sat with us for the rest of the meal. I love a cat that is comfortable with strangers. In very good time, our orders were ready. JP's pozole was okay. My pork quesadilla was sectioned into four slices. While the quesadilla was loaded with (perhaps a little dry) pork, the quesadilla really needed a lot more cheese. The owner was very welcoming and invited us back for live music in the lounge, which they have several nights a week.

I thought this place was way cool. Looks like a taco shack from the front but inside is very cool. The carne asada was really good. I am very harsh on peoples carne asada and theirs pasted my test.

  • Kacey S.

We decided to stop in for dinner because there were several good reviews on here. The staff was friendly, but overall our experience was not great. I got a carne asada burrito and my boyfriend got the honey Chipotle shrimp. The shrimp had a good flavor, but it was served with rice that was undercooked and crunchy. My burrito was overall just dry and bland.. the rice in the burrito was also undercooked and the steak was overcooked. Our drinks ran dry on several occasions. Both of the entrees were overpriced in our opinion, the shrimp was $14 and the burrito was $12. Definitely will not be returning or recommending.

Not impressed..customer service was OK nothing exceptional..I am from California and this place really did not meet my expectations for Mexican food.. I ordered a chimichanga..not too great.. Would not come back to this restaurant again.. The environment was pretty nice though..

I'm not getting the tepid reviews here. We were waited on by the very enthusiastic owner. The prices seem high, at first, for this side of Oahu, but then you taste the food and drink and see the portions. Drew ordered the Sopa Posole, I, the tamale special. We both had the house margaritas which seemed pricey at 9.00 BUT they probably equaled two in another restaurant.and were superb. All food and drink: great! I am usually disappointed and resigned when we eat Mexican outside of Mexico but not in this case. This was simply good, quality food.

  • Fab B.

Good people making simple, easy to eat food at a decent price! What more do you all want??? It's not authentic but then again nothing is in the good ole US and A so you might as well get over that pronto and be content for what is available to you. Javier is a very nice guy who does a great job at accommodating his guests and provides a safe and fun environment with great local live music. My kid loves this place so that's good enough for me. For authentic food, I have a kitchen and will patiently await as the Mexican population in Hawai'i continues to grow, much to my delight. On a side-note, saying "it's Waianae!" or comparing the area to others on the island negates any potentially valid input anyone may have on the place or the area and equates to tourists saying "it's Hawai'i!" in an equally pejorative fashion and out of ignorance. Nobody likes an ignorant opinion so don't be that person, especially if you're local.

Came in for take out and almost missed the restaurant with full bar in the back! Authentic Mexican food and bomb margaritas

It's a nice hole in the wall place. Love their margaritas! The food is also very good! Be sure to check this place out if you're on the west side.

I had the chicken enchiladas and was very disappointed. The chicken was so dry and tasted like it was old. The Green salsa that it was swimming in was so tart I couldn't eat it. The cost way exceeded the quality of the food.

Damn I wish this place was in a more centralized area. Waianae, you lucky buggah! From the outside Tacos and More looks like a simple bar and grill type of restaurant, but on inside it's totally different! There are rooms and rooms and rooms. I felt like I was in a 5 room haunted house for second until I was mesmerized by the exquisite decor, upbeat tunes, and aroma of Mexican cuisine. Since our friendly waiter was a native from Mexico, I thought it would be a good chance to practice my Spanish. In addition, he would say everything in Spanish first then translate in English of which I would repeat back to him. Although his English was much better than my Spanish, we continued to help each other in enunciation, grammar, and translation. He also gave recommendations and checked up on us regularly to see if everything was all right. And, for a brief moment we met with the owner, Javier, who was adjusting some music literally a foot behind me. Friendly guy as well. I absolutely loved the Horchata here. Perhaps my favorite on the island. Moreover, the ice to liquid ratio was just right and the presence of the strong cinnamon taste perfected it. The overall meal of my cheese enchilada was pretty good as well. The rice however was a little hard and bland. The side order of the shredded beef soft taco was also decent. However, I did not like the fact that the shredded beef was clumpy altogether. Ultimately, I like this place very much. Good service, good food, decent parking, wonderful decor... definitely a MUST-TRY kind of place.

Love this place! Where else can you drink Sol? Best nachos ever. Love the sea bass with garlic and lime. That with a side of rice and beans is perfect! Great Entertainment on the weekends. Partial to Ben but there is always a fun friendly crowd. Hidden gem!

The food here is good...its just that some of the staff is unprofessional & should watch how they speak in front of customers .... Profanity was used while waiting for my food...if they work on that they would be great overall

  • Yovana M.

Claims to be authentic, but most definitely is not! Even the salsa was extremely bland! Real, authentic tacos do not contain cheese nor lettuce. This was a disappointment!

  • Eddie G.

Place was almost empty and very laid back. Service was friendly but slow. My 10y/o had the Cali Fries and she said they were "good and cheesy" and she would order them again. My wife had the Chicken Red Enchilada it was probably one of the worst I had ever tasted. The red sauce wasn't what I expected and I didn't like it. She described it as "2 out of 5, not spicy and didn't have traditional enchilada flavor". She would not order them again. I had the Carne Asada Plate and it was good but not special. I only had two tortillas with my plate. I do want to say that the desert was excellent. My wife had the Flan and I shared the Volcano with my daughter. Both were awesome. I probably won't come back since its kind of out of the way and only so so.

  • Amanda L.

Fantastic place to grab a taco and a margarita!!! The service was the friendliest we've ever experienced on this side of the island!!! Service was also fast! Natalia was our waitress and food guide for the evening, answering all of our questions about menu items that we'd never heard of, recommending great drinks, etc. We'll definitely be back! Tip: the chicken and mole is NOT chicken and guacamole!

    (4)
  • Merica S.

I mainly come here to drink and their drinks are strong and delicious! So tasty it kind of creeps up on you I love it.. Bartenders here have great sense of humor and servers are polite! As far as authentic Mexican food in Hawaii, they make the top 5, hands down. I've had the enchiladas yum! Comes with little Mexican flag on the plate such an winner garnish :)

I'm not sure I can dig a place that has "first basket of chips and salsa is complimentary" lol...and it's a small basket. The kids finished it in a minute. Our food hasn't even come yet and we're already saying we won't be back. This is our 3rd time here in 3 yrs and every time we get bad service. We must not be lucky. I'm not even sure how long we waited for a menu until my son went back to the person who let us in to request some menus. We ordered an appetizer after our meal order was placed and the older gentleman we had seemed confused like oh no...what in heavens will we do now?? Well hello who cares if it comes out after, we're paying for it, right?? Ugh...the food needs to be amazing before I change my rating...the only reason I gave a 2 vs a 1 is because the lady who took our drinks order is nice..

This is the only Mexican place anywhere near this area but so far it looks very very very promising. The chips are served warm with fresh salsa. The service is very friendly and the margaritas look delicious. The place is very clean and decorative

Extremely slow service, been here a bunch of times, service is still slow, if any bar is in need of bar rescue or restaurant makeover this is one. Staff is friendly but that doesn't account for good customer service.

Rude, Pushy Owner/Manager plus Surprise Drink Minimum and/or Cover Charge. Bummer! WON'T be back. Been here before, once to eat and one or more times to check out the entertainment. Food was not memorable, neither was the music, but there was nothing happening at our regular place, so thought we'd check out Tacos & More. No sooner did we walk in the door than we were accosted by some old dude with a bad Elvis pompadour who INSISTED we buy drinks. We hadn't even found a seat or gotten a chance to look at a menu. Gotta pay the band, he groused. He was rude, loud, and overall nasty, as if he were blocking access to the restaurant until we ordered something. If I were alone, I would have left, but we wanted to dance and my friend knew one of the trio members, so we stayed. I can't adequately describe the shock and don't recall this ever happening to me before. You walk into a restaurant, and before you can even get oriented, some guy is angrily insisting you order drinks while you're standing by the door. Sheesh! I asked what he had, he said "Everything," so I had been drinking Shock Top and asked for that. "We don't have that. Only Mexican and American beers." Hmmmm, I was under the impression Shock Top was American. I ordered a mixed drink. He then started in on my friend. I whispered to him that it's against my friend's religion to drink alcohol, which it is, and he said he didn't care! I ordered a non-alcoholic drink for my friend. The two drinks cost $12 and the mixed drink was lousy. We found a table and there was a drink menu there. IF I had had the chance to look at it, might have ordered something different. Another customer came by to complain about the manager's pushy behavior and how he doesn't even care if someone's a designated driver. BTW, there was no sign outside about a drink minimum or a cover charge. My friend mentioned visiting here before and being hit up for a cover charge, but there was no notice before entering the restaurant. Just so you know before you go. Someone from the liquor commission and/or HPD should look into the manager's pushing alcohol to customers who may not want any and not advertising that there is a drink minimum to "pay the band." The trio was OK, but the canciones and bluesy music were way too mellow for active dancing. Just changed my review from one star to two ONLY because there's a separate NOT Recommended section for TWENTY-FOUR reviews of Tacos & More where ALL the one star reviews are hidden. They include comments on the bad behavior of the owner/manager, but, for some reason, these reviews don't count! Odd that the truth gets squelched.

I thought the place was cute, but the food was gross and so was the kitchen. It was run down and the lady that was making salsa stuck her pinky in the salsa and tried it with her finger. There was another guy that kept using his hands to wipe the sweat off his face. There was one waiter and he kept forgetting about us. My husband did not like the tamale (that cost $13). I feel the quality of the food was not worth the price. Def not going there again.

One of the most fun dinner experiences! Our 20 year class reunion was this very night...but in Washington state. Two of us girls live here now and one was vacationing at Ko Olina. So we decided to make a "remote" Hawaii version of the reunion. I hadn't seen the Washington girl in the full 20 years so we had a lotta catching up to do. The venue: We needed something low key, with liquor, and good food in the area of Ko Olina. Roy's, my normal go-to for out of towners and celebrations, was out of the question. Thank goodness for the search feature in the Yelp Talk forums! I stumbled on a thread with a link to a review that led me here. Phew! Problem solved and my reputation as the hostess with the mostest is intact. I mean, yes, it's deep in the heart (if that's what you call it) of Waianae where you want to hold you belongings close and park your car in eyeshot BUT once you get past that and get indoors...you're whisked away to a comfortable world that feels Cheers-esque. If Cheers was a Mexican restaurant. Our waitress Alison enjoys her job and her customers. She was THE perfect waitress. I mean, we were three girls catching up on 20 years. She didn't know that. But she spent the right amount of time loving on us and the rest of the time just leaving us be to chat and be girls. And the best part, when we were done and paid and just sitting taking up space, she still filled our waters and never made us feel like we were a pain for taking up her table. I LOVE servers like this. Our bartender...dude, this guy rocks my socks. First of all, he made us hands down the best classic margaritas everrrr then he tops it with li hing mui powder on the rim as if he read my mind (that's really the only way I take them). Then he comes back and tops of our drinks with even more! Super cool peeps there. Super cool. All the workers here rocked...every single one of them work in unison to take care of the customers and it shows. Not a grumpy soul in the building. When we left, they were pumping some beats and rocking the house. It was awesome. My fam and I will be out at Aulani in a couple weeks and I'm sure that's a great excuse to make the drive into Waianae and visit these lovely folks again and have some of their yummy carne asada and margaritas and their special TLC.

I love service! The guy at the door, although on break, he still greeted is, brought us in and seated us and got us a waitress right away. The waitress, Allison, she is awesomely friendly and very helpful and thoughtful. The bartender came by and talked to us and was also very friendly. Their chips and salsa is awesome. The best salsa by far, I've had. The main entree is even better! The Garlic Shrimp is awesome!!! I enjoyed my experience and the food here very much. Oh and their music is awesome too!

Great food. I had the tortilla soup which is pretty spicy. The mango margarita was really good. The chips and salsa are really good and not too over spicy.

As if the West side of Oahu isn't already a sort of "mystical" transport to an entirely different place in time (and laws LOL!), far removed from Honolulu's modern urban sprawl, alas out in Waianae, you're now suddenly "beamed over the pond" to MEXICO here at Tacos & More. I kid you not, as that's almost how it feels once you're within its hallowed walls, in what appears to be nothing but a tiny hole-in-the-wall DIVE from the outside. And walls there are a plenty, subdividing a seemingly endless, deep space that's obviously been expanded from several previous businesses, to now occupy almost the entire 1st floor of this 2-story building. Now Tacos and More includes 2 separate, very intimate, very CLEAN little dining rooms lead through a common hallway, while up towards the front section is a bar table room, adjoined by a full-service bar + Karaoke room, with a TV of course in almost every section. The main entrance area is where you'll find their takeout counter and main kitchen, plus yet another small dining area for takeout customers. (check out the photos) Of course, the theme throughout is over-the-top "why have one ornamental decoration and sign, when you can have 1000?" kitschy Latino arto-deco theme, as it should be with any "authentic" Mexican restaurant and bar. Speaking of which, for the record, like owner Mario Barron of Los Chaparros in town, Tacos & More owner/operator/chef/waiter/bartender/dishwasher/host Javier Nevares is also from Mexico City, Mexico, if that's enough "authenticity" for you. Which brings us to the food, where some Yelpers here claim this is "authentic" Mexican, while others (especially Cali' folks) cry foul and far from it. For me, as I've stated in another review, personally having grown up in Hawaii, I'm far from qualified to judge what is truly "authentic Mexican", but I do know what tastes GOOD, and the Sea Bass Fillet dish I ordered on this first-time visit TASTED FANTASTIC! $13.95 for a HUGE fillet Sea Bass slab, SMOTHERED in finely minced garlic and silky butter, served with a slice of Lime, where the bass was cooked to PERFECTION, being sauteed with a slight brown crust, while being super-moist 'n flaky throughout. While that's not uniquely "Mexican", the refried beans and rice served with it certainly were, and what really rounded out the dish. Up there with Los Chaparros and Mexico Restaurant in flavor and texture to at least what I take as being "authentic". It also includes 2 flour or corn tortillas in case you want to wrap it up, but I found it unnecessary, as the rice and beans was more than enough "filler". Overall the Sea Bass was an excellent choice to initilate this "T 'n M" first-timer, and a decent value for the generous portion served. My friend who's a T&M regular, ordered his usual shredded beef Taco trio, which for $9.95 + $2.50, he adds on their awesome Rice and Beans. The Tacos and Burritos are served with both a red and green chile sauce in squeeze bottles, that you add at your discretion; both of which are quite spicy-hot. He always gets that, and it never disappoints. As for the first-round complimentary Chips 'n Salsa, the HOUSE-MADE corn tortillas are DELICIOSO as well, with a light, yet super-crunchy texture going on and intense corn flavor in the crispy deep-fried tortilla chips. While the "juicy" salsa is very simply executed with small chunks of tomatoes, chiles, onions and cilantro, serving up a mildly tomato-e-spicy kick. Refreshingly perfect for a hot summer Waianae/Makaha day. I suppose my only complaint are the prices are on the high side considering its "divey", no-scenic-view location (regardless of how nice it is inside), which for that, I'd at least expect "bottomless" chips and salsa with my meal, not just the first round complimentary (as stated on the menu). Still, if lived out the west side THIS FAR OUT towards Kaena Point, no doubt I'd make Tacos & More "numero uno" on my list for entertaining guests, or just a night out for some great mexican grub 'n suds, as this is truly a "hidden" Waianae GEM and asset to the area's choices of restaurants. If you're out this side perhaps just driving around the island or coming from one of the numerous ocean activities and looking for a great place in the area to grab a bite and/or just chill-out, look no further than Tacos & More... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Yo quiero Tacos & More! P.S. I really think they should change their name from 'Tacos & More' (LAME) to "Javier's Cantina' (GOT GAME!). Also note, they're now open on Sunday.

I came here early in the afternoon and was the only one. This was the first time so the layout was confusing at first and this place is huge. They have a takeout counter in the front. I told them I wanted to eat here so I entered into a different room that has a bar in the front then to the next room with tables and karaoke and another room with restaurant tables and chairs. I decided to sit in the Karaoke room. I ordered their lunch special which was a burrito, with tortilla soup, and a drink. The tortilla soup was tasty but wanted it a little hotter. The carnitas burrito was up next and this is where I was disappointed. The carnitas and rice in the burrito was really dry. The Tortilla was also not warmed up. So all in all the burrito was very bland. I had to use their hot sauces to add more flavor. I also didn't get a drink that was included in their lunch special. There was a couple that came after me that got free chips and salsa as they were thanking the waiter for it but no chips and salsa for me. I think this would be a cool place to hangout with friends as they have a nice bar setup with lots of room. They also have live music on certain nights. I would come here again but would definitely order something else.

Acceptable food, not the best I've tasted but it's one of the few nearby Mexican restaurants on the island. I've probably had everything on the menu at least once and everything is presented in good quantity if not a bit lower on quality. The staff are friendly, not attentive but they do their job eventually. When you make a phone order, make sure to ask them to repeat it back, they often get the order incorrect. Don't expect amazing but they are adequate if you really want Mexican foods you can't make yourself.

Being from the mainland I'm always hard pressed to find a good Mexican food joint, hole in the wall or otherwise. LOVE the decor. Makes me feel like I'm in Mexico. Javier (the owner) is super nice and pleasant. This place hits the spot whenever I have a hankering for Mexican. Stay away from things that can somewhat be Americanized and you'll be fine (i.e. I think their nachos are good, but they could ditch the fakey stadium cheese and just pile on more melted shredded cheese.) Stick with just about everything else and you'll be fine. Menu is pretty simple and it should be. Certain days of the week they have specials, I think Thursdays is Tamale day which I have yet to try but definitely plan on it! I do think that with a lot of these reviews, the results are mostly based on what you're used to or what you had growing up. This isn't "the best" food I've ever had personally, but it definitely does the trick.

Well, I suppose I'm happy that other Yelpers have had better experiences here. I've given this place two chances, over one year apart. I'm done. The food is okay. Sure it's not "authentic," but then most "authentic" Mexican food isn't, whether it be in HI or CA. As others have mentioned, it seems pretty pricy for what you get, especially considering that this is Waianae, and not say, Haleiwa or Waikiki. Here's the root of my problem with this place. On my first visit, I ordered tacos. Everything on my plate was passable, EXCEPT the guacamole on all three tacos. It was without a doubt spoiled. It fizzed when I took a bite and I spit it right out. I didn't make a scene but I did let the server know and I got an apology. I really believe that in this kind of situation a discount is warranted if you expect the customer to ever return, but that wasn't offered. Fast forward to 14 months later. I stop in and order tacos, again. I'm the only customer. This time the guacamole is okay, but I had asked for some hot sauce to go with the food and was handed squeeze bottles with their local concoctions, one red sauce and one green sauce. Thankfully I tried them first. The red sauce was bad, just like the guac on my previous visit -- it had a horrible fizzy quality to it and was just disgusting. So I told my server, who was an older gentleman and might just be the owner, I don't know. I tried repeatedly to convey the problem and he just did not understand it. Apparently he thought that I just didn't like it, as he took it away and put it back in the cooler from whence it had come. At this point I could have switched to Spanish (yes I speak it very well) and told him the deal but 1) I'd already had a full day and was feeling exhausted and 2) I was just plain annoyed...look even though I speak Spanish and my mom is from Central America, I guess I just feel strongly that if you want to go into business in the USA then you need to learn English. My mom is quite proud that she worked hard to learn it and assimilate so maybe that's where I get it from. Anyway here's the bottom line...I'm not a foodie, I don't think I'm Gordon Ramsay...I think I have lower expectations than most people when I eat out. BUT the one thing I do expect is that food should be safe to eat! It should be prepared in a sanitary manner, anything perishable should have an expiration date and be disposed of once that date has passed, and I should not have to fear getting sickened by my meal. The fact that the same establishment served me spoiled condiments on two out of two visits, over one year apart, tells me there is a breakdown in their process for tracking the freshness of these items.

If you are in Makaha or the Waianae area Tacos and More is a gem of a spot. Tucked away in a little corner of town Tacos and More offers good food in a pleasant environment. They often have live music and their margaritas are worth having! Thumbs up Tacos and More!

In from Phoenix and we know our Mexican food! We tried this place bc the lady who owns the condo we rented suggested it to us. We are practically the ONLY ones in here and weren't even asked if we wanted refills. My husband ordered nachos with just cheese and carne asada and his chips came out with a tiny bit of shredded cheese (not melted I might add) and the meat. My kids shared a cheese quesadilla and it was 4 tiny little triangles for $9.00! Being a restaurant owner myself and knowing how much ONE tortilla and some cheese cost...I really felt like I was taking it up the butt on that. To top it off the bill comes and the guy brings us only 2 mints for 4 people!! I guess we were suppose to share those....geez!!!! The most disappointing thing about my trip to Oahu so far.

Came here only because Hannara's close at 2 on Sundays, so this was the only place my boyfriend could think of. First thought of this place was that it was a "take it and go" place but they have a dine in area deeper inside the establishment. We got seated and took a look at the menu where there were food stains and crusted food on it...ew. My boyfriend ordered the carne asada burrito and I ordered the enchiladas plate with rice and retried beans. Food was okay at MOST. I feel like the food needed an extra kick, maybe more lime or seasoning. The Mexican rice was more white than darker red and very bland, my enchiladas had a really unfamiliar sour taste to it, it was not lemon or lime but something really sourly off about my plate. My boyfriends burrito only had meat and beans in it, he ordered a side of rice and was given a very very very small portion of guac and pico and stuffed it into his burrito himself. Lame. Two mediocre plates came out to plates came out to roughly $30. It was not worth it. I'd honestly rather go to Taco Bell. Maybe all the 4-5 star reviewers never really had real authentic Mexican food before but this place was not impressive. Also, there were two-four inebriated people in the bar area screaming, not singing, to country songs which kinda made me a tad uncomfortable only because it was very awkward and I had a headache. Best part of our dining experience is the five (yes literally 5) chips that came with our plates. It was yummy and the best part of my lunch.

Dining adventures and misadventures. Our next-to-last restaurant stop in the Waianae area was a hit (Spicy House which showcased tasty Thai food). This most recent one was a miss with Tacos and More. I remember one of my hiking buddies did not have many positive things to say about the food and drinks at Tacos and More. But I wanted to taste and drink for myself since I like good Mexican food, which is hard to find on this island (lots of misses). In we walked through the front door. I was surprised to find more seating areas (dining, bar) beyond the initial entry point. The bar area has nice decor and character with TVs playing sports games or Spanish-language music videos, sometimes simultaneously. It seems like a nice place to hang out in during the evenings or the weekends. Now, onto the food and drink, as I was feeling parched and hungry after our hike and beach day. - The lemonade was cold and refreshing. On long, dry, hot hikes I often dream of drinking or consuming something cold and sweet after the hike - like shave ice or lemonade. Winner! - The chips and salsa were great appetizers. Yum yum - The menu has a vegetarian section including spinach salad (I was not in the mood for salad) and a vegetarian selection of "3 tacos or burrito or sope or tostado or quesadilla filled with sauteed mushrooms, topped with lettuce, fresh cut salsa, cheese, sour cream, and a dab of guacamole." I opted for 3 veggie soft tacos. I later realized that hard tacos might have been better since the soft tacos got soggy and broke apart easily. The deal breaker for this meal: the unbearably and overwhelming salty mushrooms. Too much that I decided to scrape out the mushrooms from the last taco I ate. - Service was great in the beginning, but seemed to lag towards the end of the meal. Not sure if service was spotty because we were in the bar area. I would've liked an extra napkin, a refill of the lemonade, or a glass of water. Bottom line: A miss as far as good, satisfying, delicious Mexican food. However the food did hit the spot as far as filling me up. Maybe best to drink rather than eat there.

This is a cute place with a lot of eye popping decor. The place is kinda hidden and it looks small on the outside but its actually pretty big on the inside. Friendly friendly staff and I love their food and will try to try everything on the menu!

I got 3 chicken tacos and they were delicious! My husband and I grabed the tacos to-go so I didn't get to experience much, but the few people that did take my order and answered some questions were very nice and really helpful. I will definitely try to go back before we leave the island!

Authentic Mexican? Maybe not, but if you know what to order, Tacos and More is a decent spot if you want actual food and not something from one of the approximately 4,492 fast food restaurants in Waianae. The owner is super personable and will definitely offer suggestions as to what to order if you ask, however when I'm there I pretty much always get the California Fries. Not on the regular menu and definitely not for those on a low-carb diet, the Cali Fries are basically nachos but instead of chips, served with crinkle cut french fries and topped with bits of carne asada. Good for when you feel like pigging out. Fries are probably not house-made, but they have nacho cheese on them, so GET OFF ME. Taco plates, enchiladas, sopes, and chimichangas are also available with your choice of protein, and if you're dining in you get free chips and salsa. Not bad, chips are fresh too. Prices range from $10-20 for a lot of the entrees, especially the seafood (which is expected for seafood, but we live on a freakin island, wtf, right?). Is it worth it? ....Ehhh, that's up to you, but I have tried several things on the menu and still pretty much always opt for the Cali Fries so..... They also have churros! Not the cylindrical sticks of cardboard you get at Ice Palace or the fair, actual freshly made churros! These are yummy: crispy on the outside, melty /chewy on the inside. They're like.. $2 a pop or something though, I can't remember exactly, but I do remember having to REALLY want a churro to pay for it. Definitely worth it if you're craving. Decor in the place is....Mexican? I dunno, I feel like I walk into someone who is very cultural, but also on a budget's house whenever we eat in - not a bad thing, it's very homey, but things are definitely casual. Overall, Tacos and More is okay. Bounce around the menu the first few times you're there, and if you find something you like, feel free to stick with it. Churros = yum, but also $$, OH, and they also have Jamaica, Hibiscus, and Horchata to drink; varying levels of dilutedness so...roll the dice with that (Jamaica is yummy if you get it on a good water/flaverssss ratio day). 21/31 31 Yelps Review Challenge

I did not have very high expectations for this little place, but I did enjoy my time here and would come back again and recommend it as well. To get 4 or 5 stars, my burrito needed to be a little bit better. I was very happy they had some form of mushrooms for my burrito and everything tasted fresh, but something was lacking. The portion was huge, but I would have preferred a smaller burrito that had melted cheese on the outside and more salsa and taste to it. I did not care for the guacamole. Ive eaten at Dos Caminos in Manhattan and that is a 5 star place where they make the guac fresh at the table and the food is amazing. This is Waianae, the most beautiful ghetto in the whole, wide world, so I was satisfied with the meal and experience. The complimentary salsa and chips was good, but I would have liked them to offer us more salsa and chips with our meal, or at least more salsa. Overall, I felt this place exceeded my expectations and is a decent little hole in the wall. I felt we were treated with kindness, respect and aloha. This place is really making a good effort and if in the area again and hungry, I would return.

I give one star for the extremely happy and friendly owner who kept on selling us their so called best alcohols. I am no Mexican food nazi, however, living in the Bay Area and have eaten at hundreds Mexican restaurants around the Bay, I would like to think I know what is good and authentic. This place's food is not authentic nor is good. Their shrimp is over cook and tastless. I do give them some prop for having a vegetarian menu. We found a fly in our dessert. Boo. The worst part about this restaurant is no frickin free frickin re frickin fills on their chips and salsa. Warning: they charge $3.50 for a small basket of chips and salsa. Who does that? And when we asked for the refill, the waiter did not inform us that there is a charge every time. Thank goodness we only asked for refill once. This place is overly expensive. Where is my taqueria? Parking is limited.

Every now and again my job takes me to Waianae. I dig Waianae, it reminds me a lot of my native New Mexico with the dryness and the topography. The food is no exception when it comes to Tacos And More. This place is arguably the best Mexican Food on the island. If given the choice, opt for "dine in" rather than eating in the corner by the kitchen. It feels like Mexico in here. Not the Juarez Drug Cartel Mexico. But the I'm Having Lunch With The World's Most Interesting Man On The Dos Equis Commercial Mexico. There is a nice fountain and tile and pictures of Emiliano Zapata complete with his sash of bullets. The test of good Mexican food is the Chile Relleno. T n' M nails it with a stuffed pablano pepper with Monterrey Jack, battered and deep fried like a chile doughnut, and smothered in sauce that is somewhere between marinara and salsa in consistency. Note: It's spelled CHILE not CHILI. That's gringo. They also have refried beans down to arts and sciences by adding piquant mexican cheese on top. I can tell this business is successful as it started in the corner of the strip mall and is slowly eating up and occupying the rest of the businesses as they close down like some kinda Mexican Restaurant regenerating centipede. Judging by the large JBL speakers, I bet it gets pretty rowdy on weekend nights with a few margaritas. Too bad I only have a day pass for Waianae. Stay non-touristy my friends.

  • Jeffrey P.

Javier is taking over the strip mall and no surprise - the food is delicious. Negatives are that the small room we were in was dominated by a TV and a separate sound system playing a strange mix of music. Also the service is very slow with each dish for our four eaters arriving serially, presumably because it was being cooked one at a time. I don't know how he'd serve more than the 3 tables there were. We ordered guacamole which came with one chip and when we tried to get more chips they never arrived. But the fajitas, carne asada chimi, garlic shrimp and tacos were all fabulous.

This is my go to place to eat every time I am on the West Side. I have been eating here since they opened and have never had a bad meal. With the limited number of Mexican Resturants offering authentic mexican food on Oahu I have to put this in my top 3. The owner and staff are super nice and in my experience provide great customer service. Only negative is that it is an hour and 15 minutes from where I live in Sunset Beach!

Eh pretty good food but the prices are outrageous in my opinion but considering the authenticity of the inside layout and food prep aswell, spot on. If you want to show an islander a real mexican food expericance mom and pops style but fancier. Id recommend this place for sure. Im from southern california so I know these things by the way.

Just a heads up: Food is NOT authentic by any hispanic standard. It's missing some, many or a lot of spices. Margaritas were ok, big but I've tasted better. After surfing all day, there's nothing like some tasty crunchy tacos. So we tried the vegetarian burritos (not that big and tasteless), crunchy ground beef tacos (Fresh and crunchy but tasteless); desserts: banana flauta- Yuck! and bread pudding- Odd stench at each bite. Portion size is small, so order two if your'e really hungry! The restaurant itself is an unexpectedly cozy clean little nook. Staff is very friendly, helpful and personable. It does seem to promise a dive bar type of setting for those looking for a wind down happy hour.

Despite the fact that Lonely Planet recommends this place and that it has decent reviews on Yelp, my experience was nothing like that described herein. This is not authentic mexican food by any standard. I've had mexican food in mexico (Sonora), california, arizona, texas, new york, washington, oregon and all over the world, including Asia and Europe. I can say definitively that this place is completely sub-par to any of the mexican eateries I've been to. The red sauce for my enchilada came from a can, which was confirmed by the waiter. It had an "interesting" aroma, congealed texture and the taste was even more interesting. The waiter was nice and offered the green sauce for me to try, which was from a bottle/can as well and still tasted manufactured and like green slop. The guacomole was flavorless and tasted old. Needed spice. The rice was undercooked and underspiced. The white cheese used in the enchilada tasted rubbery and more like mozzarella than any cheese that might be used in mexican cuisine. The food tasted like it had been sitting out for sometime and was unnecessarily greasy. The salsa which was the best part of the meal tasted overly spicy, too chunky and lacked flavor. The margaritas are almost $10 bucks and my plate of enchilada's was $13. The portions are extremely small and way too overpriced. You have to go through a dark, peculiar, dated maze to get to the seating area in the back where a karaoke thing is going on. There aren't many other options around here for food, but this isn't necessarily one I would recommend to you. In a bit of a sketch area wedged next to a Chinese take out place where cracked out beggars like to hangout. If you want actual authentic and fresh mexican food that's cheaper, check out one of the several mexican places clustered together near Kokohead ave in Honolulu.

I've been coming to this place since they opened. They came a long way from opening up the front area dinning and extending 2 more dinning area's. I would not call this food authentic Mexican because it's not. I've had authentic Mexican food. But since there are not many good Mexican restaurants in Hawaii, this one is close to my house and is decent. The service is always good and personable and friendly. Javier is the Owner and make sure your enjoyed you meal. I've tried mostly everything on the Menu. And the only thing I found that I always go back for is the Garlic Butter Sea Bass; you can either have it in 3 tacos soft or crunchy shell or as a meal with beans and rice. I've had it both ways and order this every time I go there. My sister likes the Sea Bass as well, but she also likes the Shrimp bowl. It's sautéed Garlic Butter shrimp over a bed of seasoned rice. I've tried this dish and it's pretty good. So now when I go there, I only order what I know is good. The drinks are good to. I like their Horchata

Authentic Mexican Food in the heart of Waianae! Their food is phenomenal and the people who own/run the place are friendly and a lot of fun. During the day you can enjoy their delicious array of mexican food and by night it becomes a bar! What more can you ask for? I love their tacos with the spanish rice and beans. The salsa is fresh and delicious. My favorite is the flautas! You can get two well-stuffed flautas in your choice of chicken or beef and it comes with rice and beans and all the fixin's. They have horchata and awesome desserts to top it off. Check it out when in town and you won't be dissapointed!

As a Waianae employee I have taken it upon myself to try all the hot spot places here at least twice ^__^ and I say twice just in case I miss anything the first time. I was really skeptical about this place, because as many know Hawaii doesn't really have that many Mexican food spots...that are tasty anyways. After reading Pomais ROTD I thought why not? So I called in an order of the carne asada burrito and even got order of pulled pork nachos for my co-workers, cuz I am just so nice like that. I was greeted by a friendly Mexican man with a super strong accent and his wife (who spoke better English). They were very kind to me and even offered to show me their bar/ resteraunt side which I thought was very cute and was not expecting at all. They were so welcoming and friendly and I really appreciated that a lot. While waiting on my Nachos which are always freshly made as not to get soggy Nachos I noticed they have a variety of very tempting cocktails that look really delish. Their happy hour is 4-6 Mon-Fri just in case you were wondering. Anywho my burrito was huge-mungous! And the carne asada was very nicely seasoned and different from anything I ever tried (which is a great thing because I love different!) and the Nachos were completely devoured by my coworkers and I. I have to say you really get your moneys worth and more. The portions are huuuuuge. The Nachos were completely loaded and were the bomb diggity. I think I wouldve much more enjoyed the burrito if the sour cream and pico di gallo was inside the burrito and will def make sure to order it that way next time. Definitely going back!

When I moved to Hawaii I was worried the only Mexican food I would have would be the food I made myself. I'm Mexican and I have spent the majority of my life in the southwest so I needed to find a place that would hit the spot. The salsa isn't my favorite, but the sauces that are brought out (red and green) are delicious additions to your dish. I had Durango tacos-pork. They came with onion and cilantro which is exactly the way I like them. Very friendly, attentive service too. I think the prices are a little higher than I'm used to but that's just Hawaii. I was pleased and will return regularly.

This is a great restaurant. Food is tasty, they will make it as you like if you ask ..... staff are awesome .... so friendly and they really seem to enjoy working there Alison and Eric are AMAZING (o:. The prices are a little too high - and they increase the prices too much .... when it first opened it was very reasonable, now they have the bar and are more established it is a little pricey. but we still love it there, just means we do not go as often as we would like anymore. It is above and beyond any other eatery out here on the westside. !!!!

As usual with any Mexican food in Hawaii dont expect anythign great. The burrito I got was soggy and not that large. I paid over $10 for a pretty much crappy burrito, if it was $5 or $6 I may considering going back to give them another chance because I work right down the road but no, no way, not paying $10+ dollars for a burrito from this dive...

The food was good, and they made my burrito special the way I wanted it. The location isn't great but they really made it work; it was cool and you can sit outside. The thing is, for the price I would have liked to of had a larger portion. I don't know if I'll be back because of that.

Driving back from the beach in Waianae, it didn't look like there was a lot of good food options. We tried Tacos and More based on its solid 4 star Yelp reviews. Though our waitress Ally was friendly and super helpful, unfortunately the food is hit or miss. My flautas were decent, and the margaritas are large and unique tasting, but the burritos and nachos were really disappointing. I love Mexican food after a day at the beach, so I'll give this place another try and see if I can find some better options. Btw, I'm sorta shocked that 4 or 5 reviewers called this "authentic Mexican food." The nachos are prepared with liquid cheese, come on... ! this is worse than baseball nachos where you have to pump the cheese yourself. I've been to Mexico City and several other places throughout Mexcio, and there's nothing at Tacos & More that looks/tastes even remotely like the food you'd actually get in Mexico. Lastly, I'm not regularly that sensitive about price, but for the quality of the meal, this was way overpriced.

We've been to this place 2x while out on the Leeward coast for work... The first time we went, I had a flautas plate... The plate itself comes with rice and beans, and some guac and sour cream. I was able to get one beef and one chicken flautas... It wasn't bad. I was actually quite full with the amount of food I got. The second time, I got a burrito with rice and beans on the side. That probably wasn't the best move for me since the burrito comes with rice/beans INSIDE the burrito... Needless to say, I went home with Leftover. The ambiance is a little different. Kinda dark, and they're playing Spanish Karaoke videos near the bar. It seems like a maze to get to the actual seating area.. The food is good, the parking a little tight though..

Being from Ca. It is hard to impress me with Mexican food, because I'm pretty sure I've tried it all, but since being on the Island I have noticed there is a serious lack of decent Mexican restaurants. I tried Tacos and More or as the sign says Taco's and More(unfortunate apostrophe). To be honest, the exterior, vinyl banner sign, terrible parking and awkward entrance evokes the "Its kind of a sh!t hole" ambiance, and it so is! The food however is good!!! Everyone that works there is quite personable and friendly & I will return!

We waited 2 HOURS for our food the other night! Instead of apologizing for the ridiculous wait on his mediocre food, he gave us attitude for telling him we were so disappointed. I have been eating here for 6 years and this place didn't so much as buy us a drink or bring an app to the table while we waited FOREVER??! My money is going to Spicy House from now on!!!

If you are out on the west side of O'ahu, you have to check this place out. Great atmosphere, authentic mexican food, live music, mexican beers, excellent service, nice little bar and awesome owners. This is the only place worth checking out on the west side!

Since my last review, They've knocked down adjacent walls, and expanded their dining area and their bar. They've also added wait help. All in all, it's a better experience, and worthy of a visit if you're in the neighborhood. Give'em a shot!

I've been coming here for around 4 years now and thus restaurant always comes through. Extremely hospitable, the food is awesome and prices reasonable. The owner (not sure of his name) comes out every single time we are there and checks on each of the tables to assure they are all content. Awesome place to eat awesome place to be.

My two friends and I had dinner here one night, after deciding to have Mexican food on a whim. We yelped it, and the review here looked good, so we gave it a shot. My only complaint is that it's all the way in Waianae. Other than that, it was great. I don't remember who was serving us, but he was an absolute pleasure. Suggestions, small talk, and prompt service. He made sure our cups were full and brought and cleared everything in a timely manner. He suggested a few beers for my friend, who enjoyed them. A dark beer with a Spanish name? Don't remember, but he said it was good. We had chips and salsa, some kind of soup that I never had before, and enchiladas with chicken and sides. All were delicious. It looks small from the outside, but they have a marvelous dining room inside. Ask to sit there. Restaurant seemed clean enough too. No complaints here! Next time I'm in Waianae (which isn't often, unfortunately) I know where I'm having dinner.

This is my story with Tacos & More! I cant judge the food cause we ended up walking out. So my family & I decided to give this place a try. We ordered our food, and as our food was coming out to our table the waiter drops my daughter's food on the table picks it up and tries to serve it my daughter again. She asked for a new plate and he tells her in attitude way "it still good" and my daughter said you know what forget it. I was okay with paying for it and we all walked out. I just think that was unsanitary and just plain gross. Our food did look delicious, but the service is bad. Tacos & More you need better wait staff.

I gave this place 4 stars but would get five prices a little high for location and surroundings. Greta food excellent service thank you I have not had a real Mexican meal in many years here in Hawaii. Mahalo! Joe

While the evening started off with some communication issues, the staff turned out to be very accomodating to our party.... We had reserved the private room in advance, expecting about 20 people in our party. Alison was very friendly and managed, despite the extra fun and crazy group that managed to trickle in and add up throughout the night, to maintain excellent customer service with everyone. The food is very reasonably priced and the beer is cheap!! I had the Sea Bass, which was an EXCELLENT choice. It was one of the best dishes I had ever ordered at a mexican restaurant. Homemade chips and salsa were also given two-thumbs up!! While eating and partaking in good times with great friends, we were entertained by the Salsa Boys, Papi D and Salsa Q. They played an array of Latin and Hip Hop music and even mixed in some old school requests. Free Latin dance lessons were also given. This establishment is what I would consider to be a hidden jewel on the West Coast. Whether you want to grab a quick bite, take your family out to dinner, have a "Girls Night Out" or any other low-key private function, this is an ideal place to eat GREAT food, kick back and relax. One note though, be sure to tell the wait staff NOT to take your plate or beverage away until you state you are done; as this unfortunately happened to several people in our party that night.

Always a must on the West side! Javier is great and the food is authentic. Don't be fooled by the exterior! Inside is a full restuarant and bar. Please go! I need this place to stay open. Only good grinds on the West side!

So a townie like me has been working in Waianae for the past week and seeing some people here strangely made me crave Mexican. So I yelped Mexican and found a place in Waianae about 20 minutes away from where I work. Several unsuccessful attempts to try and go to this place left me feeling blue and depressed, as I'm one of those where if I'm craving something I need to eat it. If I were pregnant I'd probably be morbidly obese! So after calling to get some location info, I hopped in the car and drove to pick up lunch. So I arrived at 11:05, thinking they'd already were open but they were still setting up so I had to wait. I'm an impatient person, but they were nice about it so I ended up texting and calling my aunt to see if she wanted anything to eat too. The owner, I presume, was very enthusiastic to show me around his restaurant. I thought the restaurant consisted of only an outdoor seating area, and the inside by the counter, but it also has a full eat in area and a private area for groups! I got the chile verde and it was so yummy. Flavorful with big chunks of potatoes and pork, and spanish rice, refried beans, and salsa as the sides. I'd definitely go there again for lunch!

You have to dine in. The dine in experience is in one word awesome. I really like the dine in atmosphere, just excellent. The food is pretty good and decently priced. But the experience is just great. This place has an excellent laid back feel with a great air conditioner that matches the great chill, kick back and relax feel to this place. As you can probably see I love the atmosphere and the food I couldn't dare complain about the food. I worked in many Mexican restaurants and was surprised at how great this restaurant all the way out in Waianae's food was. Go check it out and make sure to dine in.

The food here is oh so tasty, but goodness - one of Javier's margaritas and you will forget the word mai tai ever existed. One word - heaven! The staff is exceptional, and the locals who frequent are lovely too! I'm sad we waited until our last day here to make it to Tacos And More...

May be the best place to eat on the Waianae coast, the owners are from Mexico city and import many of the ingredients from there. My personal fav is the "hot" enchiladas with refried beans, or the shrimp cocktail, the've recently enlarged the store by taking over the shop next door and have added a bar so it's a place to hang at night too I imagine (i've only been there for lunch). Also the cream filled churros for desert are yummy

3.5 stars I've been craving mexican but since we moved out to Ko Olina I don't want to drive all the way to town for dinner! i was stoked when i read that there was a decent place in Waianae. Its a small, blink and you'll miss it kind of place off of Farrington hwy. I didn't have high expectations for decor and cleanliness after considering the exterior but i was pleasantly surprised. when you first walk in there is seating outside of the kitchen (i'm guessing for take out) but if you are going to eat dinner they walk you through a short corridor and there is a much bigger part of the restuarant you didn't know was there! it was cute, nicely decorated and very clean! very cozy little restaurant and had a separate area for the bar with chairs and tables arranged for socialization. we got there about 6 and it got really busy around 730. the margaritas we ordered were delicious and STRONG... just the way i like 'em. they give you the option of putting li hing mui on the rim and of course i did! i was feeling very good by the time our food came to the table. the food was so-so. we ordered tacos and burritos-- both with carne asada (my favorite) but it wasnt great. the guacamole was good and used real avocado but it could've used more spice. we got the churros for dessert because they were recommended by our waitress. they were delicious and clearly homemade! sweet, fried and crunchy goodness! there was only one waitress waiting all the tables and we heard a few of the tables around us complaining to the waitress that their margaritas and food were taking too long to come out. their complaints weren't completely unfounded because the service was very slow and if you want more of anything (hell, if you want water) you gotta ask for it. this kind of thing doesn't usually bother me too much (especially if im in good company). all the people who work there were really really nice and chatty. all in all we liked the place well enough to come back another time... i definitely want more margaritas and desserts! yum!

Not the best mexican I've had in the states, but it will do in West Oahu. I went there on a Tues for lunch. I think the owner was the only one working on the floor. So it took us a while to get our orders in. But the food came pretty quickly. The large guac really wasn't that large, since I'm now use to Hawaiian meal standards. We ordered a chimichanga & I really enjoyed the crispiness of the "wrap", we also had enchiladas which were good too. The flavors tasted fresh & not too heavy. Their drinks are huge & their mains were big too :D

Mexican with no Mexican flavor. Mexican food is an array of different spices, chiles, and a whole lot of bang. This place is not that, very bland, or use the wrong/too much of the wrong thing. I tried it on three occasions with a hope of like something else of the menu (we don't have many Mexican good options around here), and sadly I was more disappointed with every visit. The male owner is very nice, but that's the best I can say. No bueno.

This is one of the very few places to get some awesome authentic Mexican food on the island. After "Ponchos and Gringos" closed (I know, was long time ago but still miss that place!) in Maunakea Marketplace, the only places I'd eat anything resembling Mexican food is Taco Bell. Every other "Mexican" place has paled in comparison. Even though they don't have "kalua pig burritos" or "Mexican laulaus" it's still really yummy. At Tacos and More the food has always been cheap, tasty and above all, fresh.

After reading all the reviews, my husband and I were stoked to eat here. We called in a pick up order. He had a carne asada burrito and I had the chille relenos. The chille relenos was pretty good..the batter wasn't thick and eggy like (which is good). The Burrito portion wasn't great, but hubby said it tasted good. The rice and beans were just...let's just say I was disappointed:( hubby did mention that the rice tasted pretty darn good to him (not to me), but admitted it didn't taste Mexican. May give it another try..but won't go out of our way. Disappointed all in all..

If you don't mind the drive out to Waianae, then this place is pretty good. Authentic Mexican food, decent portions, and friendly service. Margarita I ordered was extremely weak though, and prices seemed a little inflated (which is why it didn't get 4 stars). Other than that, nice little place.

Forget town, Haleiwa, or Wahiawa this is the best Mexican food. It is only 45 minutes from Manoa and that wanta be good Greaser food that you rave about. I went to college in LA and visit the Southwest - Is Las Vegas included? so I like good sauces and real Mexican ingrediantes. A lot of which come from the Mexican food store on Beretania. Not been there either? It is a treat. I digress, go to Waianae to tacos and more for lunch or dinner and even though you spend $3 on gas the food will reward you with a smile. It is from a real Mexican American and his family or as Rod Tam calls South of the border people -Wet. His wife is the best cook in the state period, though she is a gringo, bar none. Nada! Take a beaner there for a truly great reward. And take out some more because you will want it the next day. I usually order three entrees like the Chile relleno, wet burrito, and huevoes ranchero. Then have a box for taking the rest home. Ola!

Javier does a good job, and you can tell he genuinely appreciates you as the customer. This is the best place to eat on Farrington Highway on the Leeward coast. When I was living in Makaha this was a place I would go about 2 times a month, but now that I live in town it's too far, and that is too bad. Ally is a friendly, attentive outgoing waitress that is eager to provide good service. The drinks are strong, and the bar area is also a nice spot to eat. I would go more but it's hard to fight the 27 traffic lights and other vehicles on Farrington.

From making their own churros to preparing wonderful Mexican food Tacos And More has unfortunately fallen off; WAY OFF!!! They stopped making their own Churros and their Carnitas was so bad I couldn't believe it. What the hell happened.? Their menu still looks great and the pictures they have on the wall still look good, but what I ordered was exactly like the rest of the Mexican food you find in Hawaii; sub par. The owners of this place are still nice so out of loyalty I will eat their again, but only if I am in the area. Gone is the day I would drive up from town to eat great Mexican Food. It is a sad day...

  • William H.

Hey, this is the ONLY good mexican food place on the entire westside of the island with killer margaritas. So if you are stuck on this side, lost because you meant to go to northshore and missed the turnoff, just finished surfing after getting the stink eye at Makaha beach, then do drop in. Not the cheapest Mex food on the island, but definitely authentic. The decor is a little kitschy island, the bar ridiculously small, the music sometimes too loud. My only complaint: No happy hour margaritas.

  • Kimo S.

I would drive from town to Waianae for this food as it is the best we have Mexican on Oahu. (that is a 40 minute drive)Order more that you can eat so you have left overs to take home. Get locals to tell you as well as townies that try all of this cuisine if they have tried it and most who know say it is the best here. One hole in the wall in Wahiawa has more authentic but not as big a selection or bar. Go there when the traffic is not backed up in drive time, like 4pm and eat early then stop to shop on the way back to town. If you are out there for the afternoon stop in or call and see if you need reservations for dinner that night.I may go today just thinking about it.

Tacos and More is the best restaurant on the Waianae Coast. Their food is delicious. I enjoyed the carne asada and the guacamole (I agree with Antoinette, though, the guac could've used a bit more spice). They have a good selection of Mexican beer. Service is adequate and the decor leaves something to be desired, but this is still the best place to eat in Waianae.

After a disappointing "Dolphin Excursions" tour sans dolphins, the gf and I were hungry for some Mexican food. Not too far from the Waianae Boat Harbor was Tacos and More. The margaritas were just what we needed to turn our bummed spirits around. Visiting from California, we have some discriminating tastes with all the excellent Mexican food back home. This place didn't let us down. The enchiladas with mole sauce were delicious. Super extra bonus points for Javier's brilliant musical tastes. We got excited when we heard an Adam Lambert American Idol performance playing on the tv in the bar area. We had been deprived of his music while on vacation. Yes, we are hopeless Glamberts. Then Javier continued to play more of Adam's songs just for us. How cool is that? Javier also invited us to a new salsa night on Tuesdays. They are trying to liven up that part of the island with some nightlife. He said we could become part of the family - awww...how cute! Unfortunately, our Hawaii vacation would be over by then. :( Made us wish we were kama'aina.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
