Stopped in here after reading the good reviews and was not disappointed. Had a butter roll, chocolate donut, macadamia nut cookie and bread pudding. They were all outstanding, so good that I plan to go back tomorrow to try the custard danish and whatever else I haven't had. Owners were really nice, I asked what I should try and they recommended the chocolate donut which was probably my favorite, super moist and flavorful.
To me this is one of the few REAL bakeries left on the island. If you're like me and prefer regular old school, standard pastries this is the place to visit yet the taste is anything but regular or standard! I'm not a fan of those doughnuts with snicker toppings or rocky road glazed yippetty do-dahs where the flavor is all in the topping and the actual doughnuts being mediocre at best. When I first tried Mike's I came strictly for the butter rolls..well I was late and that was pretty much all that was left. I was a bit sad until I bit into it...(signing..AAAAHHHH) oh my goodness was it heavenly! When I was finally able to wake at a decent time and arrive early enough to more than butter rolls (the butter rolls are so popular, they literally bake hundreds of them...I could be exaggerating but I doubt it) the cases still had doughnuts...yay me! Every piece of pastry that I ordered was so delicious! From the glazed donut, hotdog and oh my lawd, their napoleans were orgasmic! Not sweet at all, prefectly sweetened, soft, flaky, just simply wonderful! If you know me I'm a huge fan of plain old, good brewed cup of coffee. I must say, I have no clue why but Mike's coffee is addictive! You order your coffee, she hands it to you and you add the simple cream and sugar but, mmm mmm, the coffee is exquisite! I'm actually addicted to the coffee. Honestly, I daydream of their coffee...yep I nees help. I highly recommend trying Mike's and yes, try their coffee. All you real coffee drinkers will thank me! Mmm..coffee, mmmm...Napoleans..mmm.
"Do not judge a book by it's cover" Mike's Bake Shop ( and it's former identity Miles Bakery) has been a west Oahu favorite for decades. Located on the mauka (mountainside) of Farrington highway just past the main Nanakuli area in a small concrete commercial building, the first impression one usually has is, "am I in the right place?" Sometimes the walls are laced with Graffiti so a good impression it does not make. Sketchy is something that comes to mind. But if you were to dismiss this place and not stop by, you would be missing out on one of the best old school bakeries in all of Hawaii. Their custard Danish is plump and filled with a lot of custard, not like some places where the filling to breading ratio is like 2%. ( eh, I came here for a Danish not a sweet roll) The butter rolls are old school style where there is a nice buttery flavor throughout each bite. Firm yet soft, I love to eat these rolls with over easy eggs- oh so good to "sop" up the egg yoke so you no waste, yeah? Rainbow cake- the King of cakes. Each layer a different flavor of chiffon goodness with a delicious cream type filling. For those occasions when Dobash or Chantilly will just not do. The cinnamon bread has that homemade old time charm that tastes great in the morning, toasted with butter with a cup of Java. Just the right amount of cinnamon balance to not overpower the soft bread base. Although all their stuff is good, my favorite treat is their brownies. Deceptively simple but just the right amount of chocolate sweetness, they cut them into little square pieces. This is the way I remember brownies growing up in Kaimuki. Each piece has a thin chocolate coating on the top that melds well with the rest of the treat. You know, cannot eat just one. Easy to find, you make a right turn right after Princess Kahanu Street (there is a traffic light at this street on Farrington Hwy). So the next time you are down Waianae way, pick up a box of treats from Mike's Bake Shop- your sweet tooth will love you forever.

Excellent food, amazing prices! This place is THE place to go for fantastic sushi! A nice variety of rolls & nigiri. Nothing costs more than $10 and most of it is between $2-$5. Ordered 6 different items, and was expecting to be waiting awhile as they are all made to order right then, but it was done in less than 10 minutes! Great portion sizes, optimal rice-to-fish ratio. So good. Go here, you won't regret it!!
Had the deluxe Bento, they make items to order! Was skeptical about sushi in waianae but the bento was fresh ! Looking forward to returning and trying some hand rolls. Great for to go as the place has a only a few seats and zero ambience. Cash only!
We were craving sushi for not a lot money and this place was perfect good value and very tasty!

Best place for me to get a plant lunch of awesome Chinese Food! I've been eating here for over 25 years and Hyrum and Henry (before he retired) serves the best Chinese on the West Side! Their food can be made fresh, even if you look at the choices and see that they're cold. All you have to do is ask for a fresh choice and they'll make it for you - if you have the time to wait. So wait! Because the food is worth it! Local family business for over 25 years! Parking is there in the mall!
I can't believe the women who works here is dirty she touch the hamburger with her hands after she left the counter ring up the costumers and make the pork hash I'm so disgusted my wife couldn't finish her food. Don't eat here
I don't come to waianae often but when I do I stop here. The owners are very kind very sweet people.the prices are good for the amazing food! I usually get the ONG choi roast pork plate or the 3 choice plate with white rice+chow funn(half half ), roast pork ham ha, eggplant, and orange chicken. If you stop here, it's essential to try their chat siu manapuas and pork hash. ITS A MUST!!

Its a nice Starbucks on the west side. The service is always good for me. Never had any problems and its never very busy. One of the employees had been cleaning the whole store the whole time we were there. Good job! The place seems clean and organized. I have been here maybe 5x so far.
The staff rocks at this location!!! Nothing says happiness like a group of kind souls handing you a cup of coffee while living in Hawai'i nei ... They are always smiling, take the time to chat and treat everyone with so much aloha. If their manager is reading this, I hope you know how golden your team is. I have a Nespresso at home and make my own cold brew out of organic local coffee; the drinks are a-okay but your staff is what makes the place.
I've never had a bad experience at this Starbucks. ..... the baristas are great... and because I'm a creature of habit.. they see me and know what I want... in and out in no time!

Four stars because I love local foods and this is one of the best places to get some. Food 4/5 Portions sizes are good and the food taste great too. I bring my two year daughter here to have lunch or a late breakfast and it usually gets packed but not so much on weekdays seeing how everyone's working lol. I enjoy being able to order from the breakfast/lunch/dinner menu at anytime because sometimes I want spam eggs and rice for dinner lol. Overall the food satisfies for the price. Service 4/5 the waitress that served us was awesome, nice, friendly and prompt as workers should be but there was an employee behind the counter who looked distant and sort of "meh". You know, those kind that don't pay attention to you on purpose and go on doing whatever they are doing, so you're kind of waiting at the counter uncomfortably to pay the bill, not sure if you should say something or wait for them to notice you (even though you're sure they have). That aura. Yeah awkward-- work on that. Setting 3/5 Everything needs to be updated and thoroughly cleaned. Only reason it's a 3/5 is because of the nostalgia factor. I came here a lot when I was little, and it's basically exactly the same yearrrrrs later. But oh well. Notes: go ahead and seat yourselves. Sometimes people walk in and stand around waiting to be seated by a waitress, without noticing the seat yourself sign off to the side. Wait can be long depending how busy the place is, heck sometimes the wait it long even if the place isn't busy but it's too inconsistent to tell.
This place was Ono! Great selection and kind service. We ordered a bunch of different things. From the chicken katsu, burgers and the yummy coconut pancakes with Portuguese sausage. Everything was fast, fresh and hot! You can tell this is a local spot and has been around a while. Will definitely be back
BEST PANCAKES ANYWHERE. Whenever we go to a restaurant, we always compare the pancakes to Hannaras because it just doesn't get any better. Always soft & moist. They don't get 5 stars because we don't always get the best service. They are always crowded, but I guess because people love it there!

Food was way too expensive and I'm the kind of person that wants to go out and eat instead of cook dinner and that day jus so happen we came here jus for two kids meals and two entrees and a appetizer I spent 80 bucks and my kids only had grilled cheese and pizza in there kids meal I had pasta and hubby had steak we of course had an appetizer which was the bruschetta and I must say that was the only amazing thing I enjoyed..no bread no nothing try again maybe after a year hopefully they make changes
Music too loud, service slow, food nothing to write home about.
I tried to post a review earlier but it didnt go through so here I go again. I went here on August 5th for my dads birthday. It was all our first time going there. Service was realllllllly slow! When we arrived there were only 2 tables so I really dont understand why it took us so long to get our food. My dad, brother, and husband all ordered the same thing. They ordered the rib eye steak. I ordered shrimp scampi and my mom ordered lasagna. We also ordered 2 stuffed mushrooms for appetizers. We waited at least 35 minutes, maybe even 40 minutes for the two appetizers. What I dont understand is why they gave us our entrees at all different times. My mom got her entree the same time as the appetizers. She probably waited around 25 minutes more to eat it because she wanted to wait till we got our food. Then my dad, brother, and husband got their foods about 20 minutes later. I was the only person at the table without a meal for at least another 10 minutes. I've never been to a resturant where they gave people their foods all at different times. Isnt the normal thing to do is to give everyone their food at the same time so they can eat together? Also, not once did our waitress come and offer to give us refills on our drinks. Before we even got our appetizers most of our drinks were getting less than half of the cup because we had to wait so long to get our food. I figured she would see our drinks when she delivered our food and refill it but she never did offer and our drinks were basically almost empty at that point. I had to call her to refill them. Just poor service at its finest. Now comes the food part. I asked the guys how their steaks were. They all said it was just okay. My scampi was just okay. I feel like they could have added some salt or something. It was kind of bland. I dont know if thats how it normally tastes but the tomato sauce in the stuffed mushrooms and in my moms lasagna was sour. I definitely did not like it and neither did my mom. She didnt even eat half of her lasagna. After this experience, Im not coming back. The food was just okay and the service was pretty terrible.

The waiter was so funny and nice. The food and drinks were delicious and affordable. I had plenty of fajitas left over for lunch the next day. The homemade salsa was especially memorable.
I knew it was a bad sign when we walked into a nearly empty restaurant. The overly tacky decor didn't help either. My hubby, kids, and I were seated and asked if we wanted drinks. I thought we'd receive chips and salsa right away, as most restaurants do, but that came maybe 20 minutes later, after the drinks had arrived. The server was a little pushy when it came to the drinks, trying to persuade us to get an alcoholic beverage. We overheard him giving another table the same spiel towards the end of our meal, making one lady feel uncomfortable enough to get the drink he suggested after she had already refused. The chips and pico de gallo were good, but way too small of a portion for four people! I could tell the chips were house made. My margarita was served in a tall glass, and very tasty, but I don't think there was that much alcohol inside, if at all... For $10, it felt like a ripoff!!! My hubby enjoyed his corona with lime, though. As for the keiki plates, my son's quesadilla could've used some salsa, but he enjoyed it. It came with only three pieces though, kinda small if you ask me. My other son got the tacos, but he didn't like the taste of them. I tried it and something just wasn't right. The ground beef tasted kind of strange. So my boys shared the quesadilla plate. My husband's chimichanga plate was decent. The tortilla was homemade, which is great, but not crispy enough. He ate most of it and said he liked it, however. I ordered an enchilada plate, with chicken and spicy red sauce. What I received was three tortillas folded in half and covered in this thick, dry red sauce. It wasn't really that spicy, and the sauce just had a strange taste, making me wonder how fresh it was. I ate mostly rice and beans, and picked on the enchilada before calling it quits. When we took the check up (it wasn't taken from the table promptly) I overheard the server/owner? telling my husband that he "must have plenty of money in the bank." I don't know why the man said that, but the comment was just unnecessary!! With that, I felt that I wasted "plenty money" at this establishment- almost $60 for sub-par food and atmosphere. We won't be returning, unfortunately.
If you are looking for awesome Mexican food, there is a little bit Mexico in Waianae by the name of Tacos & More. The Carned Asada is awesome and the Flan is great. What really surprised me were the abondegas also known as "meatballs". Totally delish, if you have the chance to check it out...do it. It is one the most unique places that serves a lot of beach goers too.

Had lunch there with my husband today, the line was long but the employees were pretty fast at getting everyone's orders out in a timely manner. While every employee there was nice, their was a particular employee...I didn't get his name but the (Filipino guy) who was working at 1245 on May 22nd 2015 is amazing at customer service. He was very engaging and very respectful to everyone... Thank you
Love their sandwiches and soups! A foot-long is enough for 2 people or can be saved for another meal. Friendly customer service... Located next to Aaron's in the Waianae Shopping Mall.
We came to subway to eat with my family.one employee had great Customer service she was really nice n helpful she was doing everything by her self and the other employees was in the back talking story.

Makaha Chop Suey

Reviews:
Makaha Chop Suey is located in the Makaha Marketplace. Right down the road from where I live on Makaha Valley Road. It's the last Chinese food establishment in the Waianae Coast. Makaha Chop Suey is basically for take out or catering. There are couple tables in this small food establishment in case customers want to sit down and eat in. Customers can choose between fried rice, chow mein, or chow funn for their main starch. There's sweet sour spareribs, beef broccoli, char siu, roast pork, meatballs, boiled eggs, mixed vegetables, shrimp canton, eggrolls, and some other items that I can't even think of at the moment. When I was standing in line to place my order I glanced around the establishment and noticed a white board saying that they have oxtail soup. There was also a notice saying CASH ONLY. I also noticed that there was a television for the employees to watch when it gets really slow. The few times I had ordered take out plate lunches from Makaha Chop Suey I noticed that the worker tends to give big portions of chow mein, chow funn, or fried rice. I watched the employee wash his hands before handling the char siu and chopping the char siu into pieces. Depending on what I order the plate lunches are always delicious and it tends to make me full. Sometimes I can't even finish it all so i save the rest of my meal for a later time. I noticed on the front window that Makaha Chop Suey had passed the Department of Health inspection. That's a major plus in my books. Whenever I do feel like eating Chinese and if there'e enough time before the bus arrives I'll stop by at Makaha Chop Suey and order a 2 choice or 3 choice plate lunch to go.
Food 4/5 There is a lot of food to choose from and the food is pretty good with good size portions and cheap eats. My favorites are the roast pork which seems to always be crispy, the way I like it, roast duck, and black bean chicken. Their shrimp fried rice is pretty good too. Their food can be a little heavy on flavor and might be a little oily but it is Chinese food. Also pandas is overrated. I find better Chinese foods at little restaurants like this one. Service 5/5 Fun people working in the front. The brothers like to joke around and are really nice. They know their customers by a first name basis so it's pretty awesome that it feels like a real neighborhood food joint. Other things: Lots of parking, and near a lot of beaches.
Makaha chop suey im from the westside and im all about clean and sanitation and this place is none of either of what i mentioned i ordered red meat. Char siu there and first the guy didnt wash his hands and touched my food and act like nothing was wrong with touching my food with his bare hands yuck and discusting id wouldnt recommend anyone eatining here unless sanitation is not a problem to u than yesss its a place for u unsanitized people goodluck
