I would not recommend Scoops. We were going to get coffee and ice cream but ordered the coffee first. I got a vanilla latte which was made very slowly and took 3 employees to operate the cheap store bought espresso machine. My husband got a regular coffee and they failed to mention that they do not have a coffee maker! They put the coffee in a filter and filler a mug with hot water which they poured over the filter and into his paper cup. Horrible. We did not have the ice cream after watching this 10 minute display of incompetence. Needless to say the coffees were horrendous and still cost about $8.00!

quite disappointed with Scoops... I was hoping for some crazy ass flavors since we're in Maui, but didn't get any of that. Also, where was the hospitality? Prices were high, ice cream was so-so, and defintely did not "hit the spot" of my ice cream craving for the trip. Actually we were at another ice cream shop, their flavors were pretty sad as well, perhaps it's just the way ice cream is in Maui? Oh lord, please don't tell me that's the truth? show me some awesome ice cream! anyhow, the location is great, located dead on front street across the street from bubba gump shrimp.

Maui - especially Lahaina - offers so many pleasures, edible and otherwise, that you're bound to find an occasional rotten piece of fruit. I know you can get great ice cream and friendly service at Maui's Own...but this place puts a proverbial gray cloud on an otherwise sunny area. If you want that oh-so-gratifying feeling of being ripped off while you still have a smile on your face, I suggest you go to Scoops on Front Street. They serve Lappert's ice cream, so you know it'll hit the spot. The problem is that the owners of this tourist trap are also aware of that and charge accordingly. Given the number of sun-bleached tourists feeling free with their wallets, they seem to take particular joy in leaving their waffle cones half-empty with a paltry scoop of ice cream you have to look inside the cone to find. I tried the Hana Road, which is their cheeky variation of Rocky Road only with macadamia nuts. It was tasty from the momentary licking it took to finish it off. I suggest you bypass this place and buy a pint at the mini-market...or go to Maui's Own. You won't feel as if you were gut-punched. FOOD - 3.5 stars...it's Lappert's after all AMBIENCE - 2 stars...in the heart of tourist trap central in Lahaina SERVICE - 2 stars...it takes skill to scoop so little and drop it deep inside that cone OVERALL - 2 stars...a little more generosity from the server could have lifted this rating

We stopped here while trekkin around Lahaina. We had high expectations of this place. I mean its Lapperts ice cream. But on a rather warm day, we figured it was time for shave ice. The first thing we notice is that the young lady is putting ice cubes into the machine and then the "shave ice" comes out the bottom into a cup. Ok shave ice is where they use a block of ice and it gets actually shaved so it is smooth and easy to eat. This stuff is like the crushed ice you get out of a drink dispenser. What the heck? How can they pass this off as shave ice? Ruining the Lapperts name or at least the association. DO NOT GET SHAVE ICE HERE!!!!

Yucks. It looks okay and friendly. Hard to see whats okay. I would say most of the stuff is very old. Thought long and hard. The stuff that didn't look touched.. But why wasn't it touched? The stuff that was touched.. How long has it been sitting there? Its a whole new game of supplyside icecream dribble. And there is a malodorous wiff off overdone chlorine.. what are they trying to hide? The last customer who ate the figurative dust? Ouch my tummy remembers our last ignoble tryst.

Two scoops (and not very big ones) for $6...pricey perhaps but worth it to cool off with something sweet while walking down Front Street. I'd heeded the reviews and saved my shaved ice craving for Hawaiian Village Coffee (where they do it the old fashioned way), and went for the ice cream instead. Now, I'm kind of confused because the Lappert's Hawaii web site says they aren't related to Lappert's on the mainland, yet they seemed to offer some of the same flavors...Either way, I'll be on the lookout for some of them in Lalaland. Kauai Pie was pretty good (coffee ice cream with fudge, coconut and mac nuts) but even better was Tutu's Anniversary, which was coconut ice cream with raspberry and passionfruit sorbet. Yummy! You can get pretty much the same flavors at the ice cream place by the banyan tree, but the lines seemed to be longer there.

After going to Lappert's, I guess the fiance and I are suckers for Ice Cream on a warm evening and decided to stop off at Scoops after a disappointing meal at Cool Cat Cafe. Scoops is your typical tourist trap ice cream spot located on a busy street. They offer about a 2 dozen different choice many with a Hawaiian theme to it. Similiar to Lappert's you can get ice cream with passionfruit, macadiamian nuts, kona coffe, pineapple, and mango in it. The line here was out the door and the fact that a portion of the store was taken by a stand selling hawaiian excursions. Must have waited about 10 minutes before we got our ice cream. Prices here are the same as Lapperts down the street which range from about $3 - $6 depending upon what you order. The ice cream is Lapperts ice cream and the quality is no different, you're looking about something equal to a cold stone. Overall, just ok. Don't go in expecting nothing else other than some ok ice cream and there is really no difference between Scoops and Lapperts, price, service, quantity, quality, they are mirror images of each other. 3 Stars for Scoops and might be worth a shot if you have an ice cream craving.

This place is a little run down and the service is meh....but the ice cream was good. I had the Kauai Pie...might've been a special but bomb. I would bump it up a star if they put some TLC into this place and had service with a smile. Best believe imma stay true to Rite-Aid though.....

We have been here many times during our visits to Maui. The ice cream served is Lappert's of Hawaii, which is excellent. The service has always been at least good. They do get very busy and do not have much space, but even so we have never had any issues. Ice cream in general has become pretty pricey, and I don't find the prices at Scoop's to be out of line. Especially when you consider that it is located in a prime location on Front Street. Seating is limited, but unless it is raining it is always pleasant to chill outside, or even do some window shopping while you enjoy your ice cream. All in all, an excellent place to satisfy that ice cream craving that always seems to surface on those warm summer (or spring, fall, or winter for that matter) nights.

My bf suggested this ice cream shop since we already tried a few others on Front St. Located across the street from Bubba Gump. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by an older gentleman. I like the vibe here, it was very friendly. They serve Roselani ice cream and again I got the mac nut crunch, this time in a chocolate dipped waffle cone. It was around $6 and it was very delicious. Staff was very friendly and fast. We walked across the street after and watched the ocean waves while eating our ice cream. Cash or travelers checks only.

We went here on a whim and where pleasantly surprised! The man serving us ice cream was funny and engaged my two young kids. Best of all the ice cream was great! If you want great ice cream look no further.

We were tired and thirsty, just finished with an all-day tour of Maui and had the driver drop us off where we could grab something cold before lining up for the tender back to the cruise ship. Had a shave ice, which at $4 and change for frozen water and some flavored syrup seemed high, but this IS Hawaii, folks. Loved how it was fluffy and the syrup permeated the whole thing- major step up from the snow cones of my youth, which were crushed ice, often frozen into a solid mass, which would become a flavorless lump of ice once you sucked on it a couple of times, then threw that part away and drank the juice from the bottom of the wilted paper cone. This was sweet and good all the way through, although the cherry syrup was a little overly sweet and artificial tasting. I understand that "real" shave ice comes with a variety of unconventional add-ons like condensed milk. This sounds absolutely horrific to me; but then I don't like root beer floats because mixing dairy and clear liquids is just gross. As for the complaints about service, the little gals just seemed like typical teenagers to me. Doing their job but wishing they were at the beach. They do live in Hawaii- can't really blame them.

The KONA ice cream is AMAZING!!! The customer service was great and we will be back!!

I enjoyed our stop here for some shaved ice that turned into many scoops of ice cream in waffle cones. My daughter tasted close to 60% of the flavors when the owner correctly ID'd her as a "mint-n-chipper" which means choosing anything besides mint and chip is a big challenge. She did as did I. We thought the Orange and Pineapple is delicious.

We went here 3 times during our 7 night stay on the island. The ice cream and home made waffle cones were awesome. The chocolate macadamia nut and banana mac nut ice cream kept us coming back. Owner was there and made each customer feel special.

I was craving chocolate chip ice cream so I headed over to Lappert's. I was disappointed to see the name Scoops on the sign but saw that they still served Lappert's ice cream so I was a little happier. ATMOSPHERE: The tiny shop is old and tired. The ice cream in the displays were either half full or almost empty. When it was a Lappert's, you could smell the fresh waffle cones from hundreds of feet away. Not any more. ICE CREAM: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough - I had to settle for this as there was no plain chocolate chip available. My tiny single scoop in a waffle cone cost $5. The scoop from the bottom of the barrel was 75% ice cream and 25% a huge ice berg of cookie dough. The waffle cone was good at the top, horribly stale and rock hard at the bottom. SERVICE: The 2 ladies behind the counter were friendly. They only accept cash and travelers checks. OVERALL: They might still serve Lappert's ice cream but that's about it. They'd better spruce up the shop and keep fresh waffle cones on hand if they want to survive.

Do yourself a favor and find the nearest Lampert's! We were looking for Lampert's but found this so we decided to try it. The ice cream really isn't good. In addition, our two ice cream cones were almost $14!

Scoops is such a great place to grab a treat and walk down Front Street. The ice cream was delicious, and the owner was very funny and friendly. I had haupia and pineapple, and my husband had mud pie.

ice cream is great, waffle cone was great and the owner is very likable. i am in Hawaii and plan to go at least 3 more times.

Sucks. Dirty, cases are a mess, some flavors are old and have that gross melted crust of re-frozen ice cream slime, portions are small and overpriced. The gelato shop on the same side of the street a few blocks down towards the banyan tree blows it away in terms of quality and value.

Along Front St., there a variety of places to get dessert. You can go to Scoops and Lappert's for ice cream, Hula's for ice cream sandwiches, Ono Gelato for gelato, and Ululani's Shaved Ice. It was an ice cream night, and since Lappert's was on the other end of Front St., we decided to check out Scoops. Scoops does sell Lappert's ice cream as well, but prices are a bit high, a Single scoop for $3.90, and Two scoops for ($6.05). If you want a waffle cone, add another $0.90. A hand-packed pint will bring you down $8.75. But don't expect to go to Lappert's for cheaper ice cream, as it is the same. The service here is something left to be desired. Operated by Asian girls, they can carry attitudes that you would expect to get in New York. The place was pretty busy the night I went, and people were staring and trying to decide what to get. Some of the staff were just getting impatient and wanted their customers to leave if they couldn't decide what to order. When I put in my order politely, the girl assisting me responded in a very agitated way. Maybe she had a bad night, and maybe it was 4th of July, but at least put a smile and be somewhat polite. As for the ice cream, the servings were small, about the size of an ice cream scoop. Don't expect to get generous portions as you would expect at Baskin Robbins. Lappert's ice cream is good and definitely worth trying, but when it comes down to it all, their ice cream does not excel leaving you wanting more. I would definitely go to Ululani's for a truer Hawaiian experience, authentic shaved ice.

We went there tonight and the ice cream was good and the (I'm assuming) the owner was very nice and got my kids laughing. Would go again next time we are in Lahaina

There are many ice cream shops in Maui and while this may be one, it is certainly nowhere near being the best. Save yourself the time and effort and just walk somewhere else. Ono Gelato or Ululani's are much better options.

After many trips to Maui, I've finally learned not to go to Scoops to get ice cream. The smell of waffle cones always lures me in, but it's not worth it. The shop is so dirty, the man working among the girls behind the counter is rude and unfriendly, and the scoops of ice cream are so small for the outrageous price. Do yourself a favor and go to Banyan Treats at the other end of Front Street. They sell Roselani ice cream (so good!) and the shop is cute, clean and fun with super-friendly owners.

  • Iwa H.

Do NOT get the "Hawaiian Shave Ice" that is plastered all over the windows. IT IS NOT SHAVE ICE!!! Go less than a block down the road to Ululani's if you want REAL shave ice and a real shave ice experience. Scoops, please stick to waffle cones and ice cream.

This ice cream shoppe has a problem with their cooling units. The ice cream tastes like the flavors are old or stale. Had three different flavors and they all tasted like they had been refrigerated too long and flavors had mixed. The "fresh" cookies were stale.

Spent over $20 for ice cream that tasted like it had freezer burn. You would think being in Maui Mac nut ice cream would be good. Not so with this place. My daughter dropped her spoon and the gal at the counter acted like it was a big deal to give us another one. My family went 3 days prior and same thing as far a taste. Shame on us. Go down a little more and get some Ono gelato. A lot better. This place needs to be knocked to the ground and new owner.

My family and I love Scoops every time that we visit Maui. I think that their Strawberry ice cream is the best that I have ever tasted. We will be visiting daily when we return to Maui in July.

This shop sells Lappert's Ice Cream (including such awesome flavors as mac nut, coconut and Kauai Pie) and this is why we stopped in. There's another place on Front Street that also sells Lappert's ice cream and both are expensive. And so it follows that when you're paying a huge premium for the ice cream that they aren't going to skimp on your cones. However that's exactly what Scoops did. We got a double scoop in a waffle cone and got what amounted to one scoop of ice cream--a complete rip off for what they charge. Don't skip the Lappert's ice cream--you won't be dissapointed, just purchase it from the other ice cream shop on the other end of Front street where you'll get your money's worth. This shop only gets two stars for having the good sense to sell Lappert's ice cream--not for their own service or value. Also of note: this shop does NOT take credit cards--Ca$h only. The other shop does take credit cards--much more convenient!

Ice cream is so good. I like how they are open late. I don't remember the prices. They have a lot of flavors and all the samples I tried were delicious!

Decent icecream. They have some Hawaiian flavors. Good but nothing out of this world. I am sure you can find better.

Too bad we didn't read the Yelp reviews before we walked in for some shaved ice. It was crushed, not shaved ice. I can make finer ice shavings at home. Can't say the syrups were particularly unique either. The flavor options were rather pedestrian.

  • Maria K.

I loved the service here. The girls behind the counter could not have been more friendly. I loved the selection of classic flavors as well as ones with a Maui twist. I decided on Kauai Pie which was so delicious. It had a healthy helping of macadamia nuts, coconut and caramel. A perfect treat while on a First Street stroll at sunset!

Look, the Front Street of Lahaina is a tourist trap. There's a Hard Rock Cafe and a Cheeseburger In Paradise. Please don't expect anything revolutionary from an ice cream shop straddled in the middle of these two international chains. Ya go to Scoops because you're walking along Front Street and you're thirsty for a shake or you're hot and jumping on some chocolate ice cream would be a quick break.
