Terrible service, totally crowded, but a fun place to hang until the wee hours of the morning.

Wow, pardon if i sound repetetive, but, WORST MEXICAN FOOD EVER!! Seriously, go order a Nacho Bell Grande from Taco Bell and you will have better luck being satisfied. Bland cheese, not much in the way of other toppings, yuck. Also, I am not sure how it could possibly take 20 minutes on a slow weeknight to make said horrible nachos either. The bar that is attached to Nacho's should be avoided as well. The locals were not very friendly. Although the first bar tender made the drinks strong, he warned us before he was off to order drinks now, because Bobbie makes them weak....he was right. Also, Bobbie will not hesitate to tell you to watch your language should you let a curse word or two slip, in a bar....where no kids are allowed....She also will not hesitate to holler at you for not using a coaster....at a bar....where said coaster sticks to the counter as if held there by gorilla glue. There is one good thing about Nachos, its close proximity to Java Jazz, which is just across the parking lot. I didnt get any food there, but they have a nice happy hour drink deal, some entertaining live music, and a pretty cool laid back atmosphere. So once the food and crappy service have run you off of Nachos, escape across the way to Java Jazz for a cheap(ish) beer and some tunes.

Not good. My mahi fish taco was devoid of flavor - any flavor. Waitress was very unfriendly. Great diet Pepsi though!

This place seems to be a small family-run Mexican restaurant. Everyone was very friendly, although overall the food was below average. It's a small compact building in the parking lot of a strip mall. That didn't initially turn me off, after all, there are some taco trucks out there that serve good meals. But the inside was a bit shabby with unfolded newspapers lying around and some of the tables were of questionable cleanliness. But that's not necessarily different from a number of decent diners out there. So we decided to sit and order. The place was run by a woman and her daughter, who looked about 12 years old. Both were friendly and the daughter actually served as our waitress. Since I normally flirt with the waitress, this made for a number of awkward moments. I went with the carne asada tacos with refried beans. The tacos were vaguely okay and after a few bites, I wasn't too enthusiastic about the beans either. I finished the meal still a little hungry and dreaming about Taco Bell. Not a good sign.

Do not try this god awful place to eat!!! It is hands down thee worst food, service, cleanliness establishment i've seen on maui!!! First of all they did not even have ingredients like"meat" to make a burrito??? When my wife ordered the lady kept on giving dirty looks as if she was mad that she had to work. The young guy that was at the counter had the same crappy attitude. This place is a dive with a capital D!! Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!

NASTY! Not sure the fish tacos actually had real food, let alone real meat in them. I'd prefer to give this place zero stars. Also, they only accept cash. I won't diginify this establishment with further words.

Please don't eat here! My new husband and I got food poisoning on our honeymoon and I am 100% certain it is from this place. We ate our standard fare all day and shortly after sharing the Pork Nachos here, I was horribly ill and barely able to function for the rest of our trip. The service/waiter was nice and attentive, but when we are the only ones there... probably for a reason... Please be cautious, I wish I'd been warned.

I really enjoyed the food.. new chef in the kitchen.. quick service and although limited space you can definitely order to go. the menu has a good variety ... and the beer is cold.

Walked in through the bar, stood in the food area for a few minutes waiting to be helped, then walked out. Apparently they do not want to sell food much. Probably a good thing as I would have been pissed spending $16 on a burrito that would have been a letdown based on other reviews.

We ended a long, wearying day of travel to Maui with a burrito and a three-taco platter here, because we just wanted a seated meal somewhere near our condo. The friendly but slow service (get off your cell phone, sweetheart, and take our order already) didn't compensate for a Mexican meal that came straight from the Old El Paso cans in the supermarket. Chips and salsa are not gratis, here; it's $4 for a basket of boring, cheap, store-bought tortilla chips. Salsa is fresh and decent, with medium heat level. My tres tacos contained some good, lean, though bland shredded beef. Though I've a low tolerance for spicy heat, I doused the tacos in the accompanying cup of salsa to give them any flavor at all. The refried beans were cold, sprinkled with shredded cheddar and jack that had not melted at all, and direct from a can. All that was missing was the ridged imprint of the can on the beans. Dad's burrito got the melted cheese (making it an enchilada, not a burrito, but whatever). No flavor in the burrito, either. $30 for both meals, plus $4 for the chips, is about 3x what we'd have paid at the Times supermarket a few yards away to buy everything we'd just eaten. El Sigh.

This is a delicious authentic Mexican restaurant. Those who gave bad reviews have never had authentic Mexican food. We really enjoyed it and even came twice during our 1 week stay.

I've tried this place before but I heard it was under new owners so I decided to try it out again. First thing I noticed was the meat smoker, which was a good sign. I ordered the brisket quesadilla and it was so good!!! The brisket was so soft and flavorful. Best quesadilla I've had in a while! I definitely recommend trying this place out!

We stopped by Nachos Grande to get a breakfast burrito before we hit to road to Iao Valley. The first thing they told us is that they are going out of business, and all I can say is that they should! Living in So Cal we know what good Mexican food is all about and this place is the worst. Our breakfast burrito consisted of maybe two scrambled eggs and some diced ham, and it was pencil thin for about $7.00! Give me a break, I never felt more ripped off. All I can say is that it is no surprise they are going out of business.

This place is disgusting!!! It is hands down the worst Mexican food I have ever had!!! I ordered a Carne Asada burrito, payed like 10 bucks and got this tasteless, piece of s**t in return. I should have Yelped this place prior to see how other Yelpers opinions. I also should have noticed that at lunch rush hour, we were the only people this joint. It truly baffles me, that someone who loves food enough to open a restaurant would allow bland, loveless food to go out into the world stamped with their name on it. You should be ashamed of yourself, Nachos Grande!!! P.S- You charged me an extra 2 bucks for guacamole and never gave it to me!!!

Oh my God the worst Mexican food I have ever had, period. That includes microwave food. I wish I would have read the other reviews before I went there. The place is simple and the owners are really nice but the food is disgusting. I am from San Diego so I was really looking forward to some Mexican food, I got the nachos grande and my family ordered other things. The nachos had fake velveta metled cheese on it, there was some watery sauce at the bottom that made the nacho chips soaking, the guacamole was worse then the frozed kind, etc.... Don't go here, go somewhere else. Oh and it is expensive too.

Mother of God the food here is terrible, the service terrible even by Maui standards and overpriced...again even by Maui standards. $43 kids bean burrito, kids cheese quesadilla, cheese enchilads, chips and salsa, no drinks. The food quality was terrible, as in old, the bean had been reheated for at least a week if not longer. AVOID!

This place is junk... I wasted $9 on a horrible breakfast burrito. It was so bad that I couldn't even eat half of it...

I have been to over 20 Mexican restaurants, and this is by far the worst. The nachos were stale, the burritos had 3 ingredients, when we ordered them with everything, and their hot sauce was horrific. The worst part was we got the food to go, so I couldn't throw the small, expensive, tasteless, burritos in their face. I'm guessing the employees/owner is probably next door (their bar) and getting wasted everyday instead of managing their restaurant. I would rather starve then pay $10 for old rice, chicken, and lettuce that has been sitting out all day.

Great location here in the Times Market shopping center across from The Beach Club (the old Embassy Suites) on the Lower Honopalani Highway. Nothing fancy (more a fst food atmosphere but with table service) but great tacos and nachos at a reasonable price, and happy hour Coronas for 4 bucks! Not to mention the attached bar room adjacent to the restaurant. New owner now giving the place some character and seems to be a real hands on guy who will make this a go to mextex food destination.

Enjoyed a meal of chicken soft taco and incredible nachos. New owner and the place has never looked better. New tables and new paint on the walls. Would definitely go back.

One of the ugliest places with the worst Mexican food I think I've ever had. My tacos had no flavor and just fell apart when I tried to eat them. Everything was so bland. We thought we'd try it out since it's close the the Mahana where we were staying. I'm not one of those people who throw one star reviews out there check my profile.... but this place is a place that should be missed.

This joint is located in a strip mall complex with the Star Market. The first impression was of the management being disorganized and chaotic. The dinning room, such as it is,was cheap looking and not particularly attractive. The food was not very tasty, nor appealing in appearance or substantial in amount. Perhaps it's because I live in San Diego, where I know to find excellent Mexican food..this place is not worth your time or money.

From California I know that some of the best Mexican food places are not that great looking so I got excited when I walked in to order some food to go. I ask the guy what was good and he told me everything. I ordered a crunchy taco and a chili relleno, which came with rice and beans and it was almost $15.00. I guess I should have known that the food would be bad when the guy put some rice, beans and the chili relleno in a styrofoam box and stuck it in the microwave. When I got it back to the hotel and took two bites, I knew that this was going to be a mistake. The relleno tasted freezer burned and mushy, the beans tasted rancid, and the taco was just bad. The only good thing about this meal is after a long vacation of eating and drinking, I will most likely lose weight from sitting in the bathroom all night.

They must've stepped up their game here. We really liked it for breakfast....macadamia nut pancakes....not the best we've ever had but good for the price. Also we shared some huevos rancheros and was pretty decent. I was thrown off by the $3 for breakfast sign outside because there was nothing on the menu that was $3. Their chips were really good, crisp and fresh. The ranchero sauce was also pretty good. We ended up going back for dinner....fish taco and a carne asada burrito. My boyfriend really liked his taco and the burrito was okay. We ate in the Cantina next door at the bar and had a great time singing along with the juke box and being entertained by Bobbie the Tambourine Queen bartender! Thanks for a good time!

We stayed at the nearby Mahana Kaanapali resort, this small taqueria was in the strip mall next to the Star Market. The place is run by a great guy, a Mexican immigrant who came to Maui twenty years ago. His family had come with him, but they all left over the years...the dude spoke of his love of Mexican food and Maui. Prince of a guy, with excellent service.... We ordered the vege nachos and the chicken burrito. For 16 bucks total, we were in heaven! Nachos piled HIGH with fresh ingredients and sharp snappy cheeses, taking advantage of that Hawaii sun - avocados, especially. If that wasn't enough, we encountered a FAT burrito swollen with perfectly cooked chicken, beans, cheece, pico de gallo, sour cream and more of that fantastic gauc. In Maui, it's easy to pay $25 an entree still feel hungry.. so this place has great great value. Nachos Grande was a god-send to us folks from San Jose, CA who wanted an authentic Mexican meal at affordable prices.

Easily THE WORST mexican food I have EVER had. Now, the island doesn't have the best Mexican food around (Las Pinatas, Maui Tacos, Amigos, Cilantro, etc.) but this is literally the lowest quality of Mexican anywhere. When you walk in, the decor is lacking, but I thought that the food would make up for it; some of the best mexican food places are like a hole in the wall. Ordering was a bit awkward--the prices are expensiveee and the lady hovered over as us as we decided what we wanted. We didn't know what to do, so we started asking some questions. Q:"What kind of fish is in the ceviche?" A:"Oh thats uh...imitation crab." IMITATION CRAB? WTF? they should be ashamed to call that dish ceviche. So we passed on the ceviche and ordered quesadilla, chicken burrito, and taquitos. It was ready in less than five minutes....umm....fast food much? quesadilla was tiny and sucked. the taquitos tasted old. and the chicken burrito barely even had chicken. ew. We had paid for a soda at $2.25 and were disappointed when the waitress told us that we couldn't get a free refill. AGAIN, WTF??? are you literally going to make us pay that much money for a tiny cup of soda. ridiculous. We were left angry and hungry after eating here. This place is horrible. One thing's for sure, we are NEVER coming back here again. next time, we'll just opt for microwave taquitos from a local market and eat them at our hotel room instead.

I love Mexican food and this place was a HUGE disappointment! My husband and I ordered a burrito and a taco salad. How can anyone mess up a taco salad??? The food was bland and definitely the worst mexican food I have ever had.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
