Such a sweet Korean lady that greets you when you enter this place! Sometimes she gets busy and asks 'Mr. Yoon' to help write down the side veggies so she can portion it out later onto the plates (otherwise, I've seen him on the side, reading the paper or taking a break). On another note, the food here is yummy! The regular plate is a substantial amount of food, with rice and 4 veggies or 5 veggies with no rice. I tend to judge a Korean BBQ by its side dishes, and though this place doesn't have a huge array, all of the choices aren't overly salty and are delicious! They have the usual kimchee, cucumbers, cabbage, noodles, bean sprouts, etc. My favorite is the shoyu potatoes that are always tasty and cooked all the way through. You can also get a mini plate that comes with rice and 2 sides. I always get the fish jun, that isn't excessively battered and you can actually see the filet inside. My bf likes the meat jun. I am so stuffed after eating my plate, but I can't stop until I've eaten every last tasty morsel! Most of the plates are under $10 and they do take phone orders and credit cards. They also have boba drinks, which I've never tried.

I've always come here for good YUMMYS-style Korean. The owners are so nice and treat me well. Food tastes great

This place never disappoints! Everything I have had so far is bomb. The meat jun, BBQ chicken, fish and kalbi are my favorite.

Wasn't amazing but pretty good for fast food. Their macaroni salad and potato salad were very good. They give you a lot of food for what you pay.

A whole Lotta good Korean food for a great price! I was stuffed! On our stay in Waikiki, i frequented this establishment at least 4 times. The spicy bbq boneless chicken with 4 Korean sides made my stomach happy and content. If you're looking for cheap eats and have a big family to feed on a budget, definitely give this place a visit. Each time I went, there was always a line of people, but the lines go quick. I guess they figured out a system of how to get people in and out and coming back for more

I had their Aloha special. The shrimp was good. Meat was ok. The sides were too salty for my taste. Still a good deal though.

They're fast and serve good portions for the price. I like their Meat Jun and Spicy Chicken, the mini is just under $9 with two sides.

I went here last night for dinner. It's a small shop sharing the parking with Safeway, so there's ample parking. I ordered a mini garlic fried chicken for $7.99 (before tax), it comes with one scoop white rice and two sides of your choice (i.e. tofu, kimchee, etc) It was okay, the sauce for the fried chicken was overbearing for my taste so I didn't finish it, the sauce quickly sank into my white rice making it soupy (next time I will opt for more rice, one scoop isn't enough for all that chicken!) The kim chee didn't have a strong enough taste. Overall, the portion was huge for a "mini" but taste wasn't quite up to par. They have very limited, outside seating so it is more of a "take-out" place but the staff are very friendly and food was prepared in a timely manner so 3 stars for that!

Meat Jhun & spicy fried chicken! Very yummy! My daughter loves the BBQ beef!

5 stars is for finding my new Korean place!! & of course for the food!! & for the Korean food fix that I had, this past Saturday. I've been wanting to find a go to Korean to replace Ginas & Mama Woos. These 2 are not my "go to" for Korean. I've found happiness @ YoonCy BBQ.! Yay!! :0) :0) My co-workers comes here often, so I decided to give this place a try. I order the 5.00 special, ( sign that was posted on the door) It is pretty big portions for this deal, I got the spicy bbq chicken, no rice, got another veggie in place of this. This fed 2, me & my daughter, there is still little left in the fridge. ( my mom cooked a full pot of rice) - Perfect for picking up YoonCy!! Since this place passed, I am totally coming back here for the other stuff. BBQ chicken, fish jun, meat jun, spicy chix wings, & more spicy chicken. Oh I can't wait!! Before I left, I told the lady that my co-worker always order from here, she asked where I work at, & as I mentioned, she knows exactly who my co-worker is. I am just so happy that I found my new Korean love for my Korean cravings.. Celebration!! so that means Im going back here to celebrate!! I hope you like this place just as I do!! Goodbye Ginas & Mama Woo !! I sure won't miss you & never did miss you when I was on my search for Korean food. When you search for it, you will find it!! I'm so glad I did!!

YoonCy Korean Bbq is by far the best. Great location, good customer service and reasonable prices for the food portions. There's 3 plate sizes: keiki (1 side,) mini (2 sides,) and regular (4 sides.) Like everyone mentioned, the keiki plate is great for a small meal. Drink refills are $0.50. I haven't been eating meat jun lately because other places I've been to make it bland. YoonCy, on the other hand, hit it right on the nail! It wasn't dry. It was full of taste to that point that I didn't need to use the sauce! How great is that? I ordered the bbq beef. It's pretty good. My sides were garlic potato, corn, mac salad, and long rice. I know. I'm such a haole lol I can't help it if my taste buds control me. Overall, great meal. YoonCy is consolidated but don't be deterred. There's tables and chairs along the outside with an umbrella for shade. As for parking, it's a battlefield. I went here at about 12:00 PM so that's understandable. My advice, grab it when you see it because other drivers can be so mean. I'll definitely be coming back.

I love this place! The workers are always so nice and welcoming. I think the prices are reasonable! It's cheap. They're not like other places where you pay more and get less. I love their Choy Sum and potato salad :) ... Also their location.

With so many Korean BBQ options how do you decide where to go when they seem to be around the corner from each other? The answer for us was to try them all and keep trying them all! YoonCy BBQ is pretty high on our list, the Spicy BBQ chicken is really the star of their menu for us and just tastes better here than other spots. We have only been ordering this dish and continue to come back once a month because we crave their Spicy BBQ chicken pretty often. Other perks of this Korean BBQ joint: 1) They offer Brown Rice. 2) They allow you to substitute rice for an additional vegetable side dish

I have checked in here many times before and I think I respect the people who works there because they are friendly especially toward a deaf person! :) Kinda surprised because most of the times Korean wouldn't be friendly and somewhat impatient. Nope they are totally opposite and they deserved 4 stars with a great service! The food are healthy and look fresh! :) yummy!

Everytime me and my friends come on this side to study at food land. We always come here to eat our barbecue menu. I always come here to eat my original order. Mini Meat Jun & side of mandoo. Yum! If your lookin for flavored food and good portion! Come try out this place (:

Living local is easy if Korean food is the flavor you savor. Yooncy will give you the perfect stop to fill your needs. Kapahulu Safeway offers free parking and easily accessible going into or out off Waikiki. Portions are generous and veggies are fresh daily. Would recommend to everyone.

I love coming here just to say hi to the cute korean mama-san and get some great korean food takeout on the way out! She is super sweet and always give me extra food as if I needed that right?! Haha!! This takeout is located on the left side of Kapahulu Safeway and super cheap for all the food you get!! I always get the aloha special or mahalo special for dinner after work and have plenty of leftovers for the next day!

Solid place to get Korean BBQ! My husband and I are frequent patrons, and this place always hits the spot when I'm craving some Korean BBQ. We frequently share the YoonCy special (Kalbi, BBQ beef, and Korean BBQ Chicken), which is always delicious, but have tried other combination plates, and you really can't go wrong with any of them. With the regular size plates, you get a ton of rice and your choice of 4 sides - we usually get the kim chi, mac salad, garlic potatoes, and another vegetable. You get a ton of food for the price, and it's a great value. The boba / bubble teas are great, as well. We normally get the taro or honeydew melon. Highly recommend if you're in the mood for some Korean (or want to try Korean for the first time)!

Yooncy so fancy We ordered two keiki plates, one with kalbi, the other garlic chicken because we were being cheap. For $5, Both with no rice and they gave us an extra side. The sides were tasty and this became a very cheap meal. If you want a combo plate I suggest buying two keiki plates, choose two entrees and four sides with no rice. Much cheaper than the $12 combo plates. Gina's definitely has some competition.

I admit, YoonCy is not one of my go to places just due to location, but I still support it whenever I'm in town at least once. Why do I make it a point you ask? NUMBAH 1: Owner lady is sooo nice. Literally one of the nicest ajumma's I've ever encountered.. and I've met alot. (I LOVE KOREAN FOOD, OKAY? Don't judge me haha.) NUMBAH 2: Good ass food and HUGE portions. I always get YoonCy special cuz you know, best deal right? Always enough for bring home lunch the next day. Perfectly marinated kalbi and chicken.. mmmm drooling just thinking about it. NUMBAH 3: Banchan selection! Always has lots to choose from and they're all good. I'm very picky about my banchan because of the korean food fanatic that I am. It's not as sugar ladden as some of the other places (ie. Yummys) but that's a good thing! Helps with me not getting a food coma afterwards lol. All in all I super duper duper recommend you check this place out if you're in the area.

    (4)
  • T N.

Absolutely love this place. Love their kalbee, spicy bbq chicken and spicy bbq pork. Always get their family pack for dinner and it ends up being lunch for the next day between the two of us. I love Gina's, but since Yooncy came along they've taken the #1 spot on my list.

  • Layna F.

Ok so i've only ordered one thing here when I go here and it's the kim chee soup. Love it! It has a very savory flavor with lots of kim chee and interestingly zucchini. You can get it spicy or mild (I recommend the spicy). The soup also comes with 2 scoops rice and 4 sides. All veggies are good and fresh tasting. This is also the fist place i've tried mac salad with dill (I think it was dill) and I think I like. Great place to pick up a quick lunch or dinner. Like all other take out Korean places there enough food for lunch the next day.

  • Lauren C.

Came here and ordered the keiki plate- one order of meat, one order of vegetables and one scoop of rice- and it was more than enough food to satisfy my hunger! All for $5! It really was keiki looking but I am no keiki and it fed me well. I ordered the meat jun with chap jae as my side. Yummmm I think YoonCy just turned into my favorite place to get korean grinds on Oahu. Its conveniently located in Kapahulu by the (relatively) new Safeway, so there is always lots of parking and the man is so nice! I also tried their teri beef and I really liked it as well.

  • Tabatha P.

I love coming here when I shop at Safeway. The meat jun here is the best that I have tried in the city so far, I'm not sure what they do different. The kalbi is good but not very generous portions. They have delicious salads made just right and they are nice people. I wish they had just a little more seating, I usually have to go to Safeway to eat and their tables tend to be sticky.

    (4)
  • Just B.

Solid four stars. I usually get a 'keiki' plate which is like a mini anywhere else and it's filling enough if I'm not starving. The food here is slightly different than Gina's which is actually a good thing. The hamburger steak is good, as is the BBQ beef. Meat jun is okay. The fried mandoo is good. The husband and wife who run this place are both friendly. Between this place and Gina's, I'd have to give Gina's a slight edge especially on portion size. Like I said though, their food isn't exactly the same so try both. For example, I like the BBQ beef way better here but I like the kalbi better at Gina's.

YoonCy BBQ is a hidden gem. It's located in the Kapahulu Safeway "mall" near Good to grill and Gamestop. It's easy to find and their food is consistently good. They have a pretty large menu. I usually get something from the "keiki" menu. It's less than $5 and big enough to leave me satisfied. I like the keiki spicy bbq chicken no rice. It usually comes with one scoop of rice, one vegetable and your meat. With out rice you get an extra vegetable. The chicken is odds and ends but i usually like to eat the smaller pieces any way. The regular place you get big pieces of chicken. They have the normal side vegetables like kim chee, shoyu potato, long rice, choy sum, mayo potato, bean sprouts, beans, cabbage, shredded diakon, and so much more. Tip mayo potato and kim chee, yum! It's great for take out because there is a big parking lot. Easy to get in and out. They have a few tables outside to eat if you're lucky enough to snag one. Must try: something of the keiki menu if you just need a snack or if you're in a rush with kids and need some where easy to grab take out from. 31 yelps - 6/31

If you want awesome Korean bbq without paying an arm and a leg, this is definitely the place to go. Being a korean myself, I have tried a lot of Korean related food entrees, but let me tell you, this place is as Korean as it gets. When I go there, I usually order the kalbi plate while my boyfriend orders the yooncy special. One thing I've noticed about this place is the consistency of their food. The quality, flavor, and portions are always the same which makes the trip down there worth it. The kalbi is always on point and has a subtle sweet but yet smoky flavor thats quite tasty. The portions of side dishes that they offer is quite generous. My boyfriend always loves the yoon cy special and admires how filling the whole meal is. A must try for authentic korean bbq!!

As a pescetarian (seafood), I pretty much can only eat fish jun as an entree at any Korean place. Family-operated YoonCy makes a tasty and hearty fish jun that I highly recommend. Their jun sauce is thin, but sweet and tasty and I always buy the large side of this sauce so I can spread it all over my fish, rice and mac salad. Heaven. Their vegetable sides selections are one of the largest I've seen anywhere (cole slaw!) and always fresh and tasty. They also have one of the largest entree menus I've seen in any Korean place and at some of the best prices in town. The pretty woman who operates the place will always greet you with a warm and friendly smile and goes above and beyond (she often uses pieces of foil to separate the messy side dishes from co-mingling). Bottom line: Great food, great prices, great service, great place.

Killer Garlic Fried Chicken!!! These guys also serve pretty big portions. They give plenty veggies/sides, rice, and give pretty big size portion of meat.

I'm usually very picky when it comes to eating Korean and Japanese food. But for the price of the place, I'm totally there! It is located in the Safeway complex on Kapahulu, so parking isn't too bad. The best deal though, is the $19.99 family pack. You get 3 meats, 4 scoops of rice, and 4 choices of vegetables. And the portions are generous (not when you get kalbi though, ). But it's still worth it since it tastes SOO GOOD!! Their kalbi is nice and juicy! There's no tables inside the restaurant, but if you want to hang around to eat your food, there's tables located right outside of the restaurant. When my entire family wants to eat Korean food, we usually go to Gina's, but now, ever since we discovered this place, we will definitely be coming here! Feeding 7 people for $19.99 -- some of us are very small eaters. Can't beat that! The first time I ate their meat jun, it was sooo delicious. But a couple days ago, it seems like they gave us more egg on the meat jun than meat. But I'll let this incident slide ;) I introduced my boyfriend to this place awhile ago, and now he's hooked!

The yook gae jang is pretty good here. The broth is blazing hot, so let it cool down. All of the sides are tasty (I had the noodles, green beans, cucumbers and potatos). Price is cheap for the area.

Love the food and proportions. Their Bubble Tea was a pleasant bonus. Love the Aloha spirit here.

  • Krys Y.

Favorites from this place: HAMBURGER STEAK & COFFEE BUBBLE DRINK I am a hamburger steak fiend. Well, I love hamburger in any form. This place makes it SOOOOO GOOD! It's a homemade patty and the gravy is SO tasty and it goes excellent with mac salad! I try not to eat full plates because I don't want to eat a lot in one sitting and this place is perfect because they have "keiki" orders which are small portions AND it's pretty cheap too! This place is in the Kapahulu Safeway shopping center, so typically there is always parking. The only thing is that the food takes a little long to come out sometimes. Not super long, but just longer than some other places. But the people here are nice so it's not so bad. I come here all the time now since it's so close to home!

    (4)
  • Russ S.

Always consistent here. Aunty at the front is always super nice, no matter how busy she is. Got the Aloha special tonight, no rice with an extra side in place of rice :)

This has become one of my favorite Korean fast food joints. It's located in the same complex as Safeway so parking usually isn't a problem. This place is take-out only so there aren't any tables inside. There are chairs to sit in while you wait for your food. You can always call ahead of time if you don't want to wait. I usually get the regular sized meat jun and bbq chicken combo plate. I love their meat jun because it's sliced very thin and isn't oily. The bbq chicken is tasty as well. The regular size come with white or brown rice and 4 sides. I've tried the garlic potatoes, shoyu potatoes, chapchae and seaweed to name a few, but the side I enjoy the most is their choy sum. You might think EWW!, but it is soooo good. Sometimes I get it as 2 of my 4 sides. I once had pumpkin tempura as a side, but I think it was a special at the time. The plate lunches are under $10 and I think you get a lot of food for the price. The mini plates are not that much cheaper so regular size is a better bang for your buck. Their mandoo is really tasty too. I've brought it to parties before and people always ask where it is from. One side order of mandoo comes with 11 peices. Service is great. Mrs. Yoon always seems to be in good mood. I could eat here multiple times a week.

I'm from the Big Island and was on Oahu for work when I stumbled upon this place. I ended up ordering the mini chicken curry and a pineapple bubble tea. The mini plate came with 2 side options so I chose the noodles and tofu. For a mini plate I actually got a lot of food - I would hope so for the $12 I paid for my food and drink. The chicken curry was delicious but nothing above the ordinary. The noodles were good but I've tasted them before on the Big Island. The tofu was flavorless so I didn't touch it. This place redeemed itself with the bubble tea. I would go back just for the bubble tea. Lots of (different) flavors and tapioca is soft, chewy, and very tasty. Overall, I would go back to eat at this place but wouldn't go out of my way to order their food. Maybe next time I will try something different..

My friend was always talking about this place & so I finally stopped by & I must say... Best Korean food in town! Their Kalbi & chicken Katsu is amazing. Well pretty much all of the different things I've gotten always was super good & never a disappointment. The customer service is awesome! The little Korean lady who works in the front is the sweetest & she's always so happy & friendly. Definitely would recommend this place to anyone who's craving some good Korean food to go.

I am surprised this place doesn't have a long line, that's how good their food tastes. My girlfriend and I are very picky about what we eat and after tasting their food we are both so satisfied with the quality taste and style of this BBQ. I highly recommend this place.

    (5)
  • Curtis K.

It's a great place for a lite dinner. They have a keiki plate that's around $5.00, scoop of rice, one salad. Great place to buy something to eat after doing grocery shopping at the Kapahulu Safeway. I usually get the BBQ beef keiki plate.

If Koreans made local food what would it be? Meat Jun, Of course! YoonCy is your standard KBBQ place that serves an array of korean and local foods. My personal favorite and the dish i get every time is the spicy chicken.. Usually when I order spicy chicken, it comes out OILier than a bodybuilders contest.. But for some reason I find Yooncy's chicken not that bad.. They are a little inconsistent at times as the chicken can be juicy or dry but for the most part i enjoy it. The reason I keep coming back is the vegetables.. The kim chee isn't too rancid but has a nice subtle sour flavor, the choi has taste and isn't just a green veggie, and my FAVORITE is the shredded radish or daikon. I could eat the daikon for days and days and days and days and days.. oh yeah and days... or should it be daes since we'r talking about korean food.. any who.. the prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly and helpful, and there is something for everyone here.. I know this isn't a "healthy" place with all the friend foods and what not but it certainly feels more "healthy" than some other KBBQs I've been to. :) OH AND THEY TAKE CARD!!!!! BAZIIIIIINGA!

  • Joy K.

Tried the BBQ chicken & BBQ beef -- Average-sized portions that tasted alright...Not very giving with the sides, but they were rather delicious!! My son enjoyed his seaweed soup, but that's pretty difficult to mess up. Going to try the meat or fish jun if I ever go back again. FYI: Small, quaint location next to Safeway on Kapahulu so seating limited to outside.

Where else can I find a Korean place that has brown rice?? All restaurants and food trucks should have brown rice as an option!

  • Janice H.

Review is strictly for their boba/tapioca/pearl tea drinks. I ordered the taro and the boyfriend got the Melona drink. Not spectacular, but mediocre. It hits the spot. When it's nearly 9 PM and you're on the other side of town not wanting to trek it down to "Asian Invasion marketplace" aka "McCully Shopping Center" for Bubble or Tea?, this is an OK alternative.

  • Ryan T.

Food always taste good and they usually give pretty good size portions. People may think it's a little expensive but almost always you are going to get 2 meals out of 1 order unless you are dying of starvation or have a healthy appetite, so when you look at it that way, good deal. Also, you it can be fairly healthy if you choose brown rice and lots of veggies for the sides. Definitely worth a stop.

It gets crowded, fast! But it's close by my place and I had a craving for their potato sides.

Great service with a smile. Every time we came here on our trip we left with a smile. This spot is a sure shot. All the veggies, salads are extremely fresh with great flavor. Come with an appetite the servings are huge easily can be lunch and dinner or can be shared with another. We stayed in the area for 2 weeks we ate here nearly every other day, it's so damn good and nice I love the aloha spirit they gave. Sure shots: fish, meat jun fried shrimp, mac salad the greens, slaws, potato, bbq chicken. Definitely 1st meal when we come back. Thanks again for the great food and service.

Tonight I really didn't have time to cook, so we ended up going to Yooncy, which I most frequently visit for their MINI KALBI. Their prices are affordable and the food is always made to order. FOOD/PRICES: So the mini kalbi consists of two perfectly seasoned kalbi ribs with two scoops of rice and two sides. For my sides I usually pick the potatoes covered in what appears to be mayonnaise...this is my favorite side...and I also pick the cucumber dosed in kimchee base (more on the sweet side not so sour-just right). For two mini kalbi orders plus a drink it came out to about $16 which is not bad for an awesome kalbi dinner. ATMOSPHERE/SERVICE: This place is well maintained and their employees are always nice. There are a few chairs inside to sit at while you wait for your food. They don't have tables inside but there are plenty of tables outside and most of the time the weather is nice enough that you can enjoy your meal. I've lived here for over year now and this place is always on our list when looking for QUALITY KALBI, at AFFORDABLE PRICES, and FAST SERVICE.

Spicy Barbecue Chicken. If you come to YoonCy BBQ you have to order this. I ate it twice, and each time is was superb! It's like your regular BBQ chicken, but with a spicy pork type marinade on it. It's always really juicy and well cooked. They also have this new "keiki" smaller eats menu, if the mini plates and regular plates can get too large. I believe the mini minis are around 4-5 dollars with rice and a choice of vegetable. And, as always the Owner, the middle-aged korean lady is always so nice! Loveeee it.

Yay for YoonCy!! Everybody that works here is super friendly. Portions are huge! It is really convenient when I finish my Safeway grocery shopping spree and then suddenly realize I'm waaay too tired to cook. I load my groceries into my car and then stroll on over to YoonCy for my meat jun fix. My husband gets the Aloha Plate which is huge! They started making smaller meals for kids or people with small appetites. I LOVE this!! I always want to order off the kids menu but nobody ever lets me! Now YoonCy lets me! The long rice is one of the best long rice I ever had. They give you a lot of veggies with your meal. The only bad part is you have to brave the horrible parking lot!! Why is it always completely crowded at any time of day or night?! Anyways, stop in and you will not be disappointed!

We tried this place on a whim one day, and I think we found our new Korean BBQ take out. We ordered the Family Pack A, it comes with 3 choices of meat, 4 sides and 4 scoops of rice. Everything was so delicious, and even more delicious for leftovers for dinner that day. They gave a ton of sides, and each one was fresh. We will definitely return!

Best korean food! And the workers there are so nice too! I have eaten at a lot of korean resturants and hands down YoonCy wins every time! Seriously next time your craving some ono food come here!

I had the BBQ spicy pork dinner with 4 sides and 2 giant scoops of rice. It was pretty dam good and there was so much food I could only eat half so maybe you should share it with a friend.

This place has really good Korean food. The location is also convenient, on Kapahulu Street right next to Safeway, so just park somewhere in the large parking lot there. It is a small take-out place, so don't expect to sit and eat there. They have your standard main dish and veggie choices for usual plate lunch Korean places. I loooove meat jun and this place is definitely my favorite for meat jun. The prices are also standard and the portions are generous. I haven't tried their noodle or soup selections yet, but their regular plate lunch menu items are really good. Love the choy sum and garlic potatoes. We often get the mandoo too, which is the usual mandoo you can get at Yummy's. It's really good, but I tend to prefer the large homemade mandoo you get at sit down Korean places. YoonCy also has catering sizes, which are comparable to other places. We did notice that they upped the prices recently (I used to think they were cheaper than other places). So a tray of spicy bbq chicken, meat jun, and mixed veggies came out to $28, $25, $28, respectively. The portion is pretty large, a good size for potlucks. If you want to get it for dinner for the family, they also have a family pack special, which I have eaten but not paid for before. But I heard it is a really good deal.

Great food for a more than decent price. I often eat here and recommend it to anyone who enjoys Korean food.

Yay - Korean BBQ! I'm not Korean, have never been to Korea, and have never enjoyed homemade food from a sweet Korean granny, unfortunately! I found and fell in love with Korean BBQ at Me's BBQ in Waikiki during a trip here, pre-move-of-2008! That all being said, my favorite part is and always has been the side dishes: 4 please! The clear/glass/cellophane noodles, mac salad right next to those so they mix a little, potatoes, and some type of green veggie. Typically I scarf down and enjoy the sides and give the meat/rice away or save it for later. I routinely order the BBQ chicken and sometimes it's too gross or dry to eat, depending on where it's from. YoonCy (how the hell do you say that?!) doesn't have this problem! Last night I paid between $9 & $10 for a regular size plate of BBQ chicken, 2 scoops rice, and 4 mentioned side dishes. I hate half for my dinner and kept the rest for today's lunch. Not only does that make me super thrifty for only spending less than $5 per meal, it makes me HAPPY because the chicken was edible and enjoyable. Not fatty, dry, or overcooked, I ate it all.

I love this place. Yummy's is way overrated! This lady's veggies are so ono. Her veggies aren't too salty or oily. Cheapest veggie plate I know of. I usually grab a veggie plate with no rice (5 choices of veggies) for under $7. I love the shoyu potatoes but one day i randomly tried her white potato salad and damn its good! I usually dont like mayo but the white potato salad has the load of garlic in it and somehow the skin to the potatoes are crispy making this side dish superb! Everything i eat from here is more than exceptional. Meat jun, kalbi, bbq chicken, korean fried chicken are all winners. This place gives choke food too! Did i mention the kim chee? Well her kim chee is fresh and yummy too!

YoonCy is a terrific place for takeout Korean BBQ and is so easy to access because it is right in the Safeway Kapahulu shopping complex, right by Good to Grill. We all really like the food here, it is our absolute favorite Korean BBQ takeout spot. Our favorites are their Meat Jun, BBQ Meat & Chicken and Mandoo. The portions are generous & their side dishes like the choy sum, cucumber, garlic potato salad & kim chee are also really tasty and the service has always been very friendly. They also have good bubble drinks. I find it great for the nights that I have to provide dinner for the family since I don't cook at all! I also like to cater from here for small parties of 8 to 25 because it is always good and it is also super economical!

Omg...I love their kalbi plate, it is da best! You so have to try it for yourself! I would recommend it to my family and my friends. The first time I came here was with my sister although all she had was a few side veggies...one was the greens but can't remember the other one... I think it might have been Choy sum? She said it was good but how can you mess up veggies anyway right? I am glad we discovered this Korean place. Only complaint I have is that we had to eat on the outside tables cuz I don't think they were any tables inside if I am not mistaken, being that the place looks quite tiny inside.

really, i know 5 stars is a bit much but they're sooo affordable and they have brown rice. They're also very clean and have good customer service. I really like ordering takeout here especially since there are only a couple seats outside. My opinion is if you're into Yummy's, this place is the one to hit to save a few bucks and still get the great taste. Their Kalbi is really tasty and the seaweed soup is good too. They also have this crab salad that i can't stop getting as a side. Dammit, me and my softspot for mayo :(

This place is awesome. Food is amazing- I always order the BBQ chicken and Kalbi beef combo and I am never disappointed. Portions are HUGE. If I order a full plate, it's definitely enough for at least 2 meals. Never a long wait, and the staff is super friendly. LOVE their coleslaw, mac salad, and garlic potato salad-so yummy! I come here at least once a week to get my Korean BBQ fill. Getting hungry right now just writing this review...

Good food. Good prices. Good service. Tip: the "keiki" menu is less than $5. It's basically a "mini plate", and it's still a lot of food. Best deal in town for Korean BBQ.

Cheaper than Yummys, bigger portions and vegetables are always fresh! ---I don't know if the lady who helped me was the owner but WOW was she nice! I ordered the Aloha plate which came with Meat Jhun, BBQ meat, 1 piece Mandoo and BBQ Chicken being that I love spicy foods I asked her if it was possible to make my BBQ chicken SPICY (I know alot of korean take-outs don't like you to special request or change a set menu BUT she was more gladly to do it with no extra charge! YAY!) ---FOOD was so tasty! I still have leftovers and I'm pretty sure it will taste just as good and service is always fast! FYI: they now offer even smaller plate portions for us "smaller eaters" price ranging from $3.99, $4.25 and $4.50 I think it's a 1 choice from a selection and it comes with 1 scoop of rice and 1 choice of vegetables

When Uncle was sick and had a bad bad cold, he craved kim chee soup because he saw people slurping it down on a Korean drama show. Off we went to YoonCy BBQ because it had rather high ratings and many people said that the owner was very friendly (very important that service is good - and friendly helps a lot). Kim Chee Soup was on the menu, so we ordered a spicy one. It sounded delicious and cost $8.99. Not too bad, we thought, and then we find out it comes with 2 scoops rice and 4 veggies! Wow!! Such a deal! The soup was excellent - nice and hot with kim chee, tofu, and some kind of stringy beef that added just the right amount of beefy chewy flavor. The veggies were excellent - green and fresh choi sum, cucumber kim chee was great, as well as their garlic potato salad and their healthy and ono seaweed. It was SO good and satisfying, Uncle wanted it again the next night. And the next night, and the next, and so on. We had it for about 8 evenings straight and each time we enjoyed it so much! Now we go and have their plate lunches too - barbeque chicken is really good, kalbi is really good, the mandoo is good, and very surprisingly, their local style hamburger steak is REALLY good! The gravy on it is different - like something you would expect at a very high end restaurant. All in all, YoonCy's is wonderful with a very nice owner, great food, and reasonable!

I love eating from yooncy. They are always friendly, prices are good, food is delicious and there vegetables are always fresh. I get my usuals meat jun and the taste and texture is always consistent. I highly recommend everyone to eat from yooncy. You will not regret it!

  • keri r.

LOVE their BBQ spicy pork. I've also had their BBQ beef and kalbi, which are also delicious. Try to get there early, since they seem to run out of long rice before they close (this is my favorite side). Their other sides are also great, especially the potato salad. Their regular plate is big enough for two meals (I like having their leftovers the next day), and the prices are pretty cheap. I'm happy that I live so close to them!

Go here! Great to-go Korean food - you won't be disappointed. We always go here when we are on O'ahu. Our favorites are the bbq chicken and Meat Jun. The sides are also flavorful. Often, the Korean sides are tasteless, but this place seasons just right. The choy sum = yum! Seaweed is great and we always get a double order of noodles! They have a family pack for $20. Perfect for a family of 2 adults and 2 kids. And oh so reasonable in Hawaii. Close enough to Waikiki (if you have a car) and nearby Waiola Shave Ice and Leonards. :)

Some of the vegetables were a bit salty. I've tasted better spicy pork. The meat jun and fish jun were ok. I prefer the korean take out in kahala mall.

  • Sean H.

I'm not that impressed by the food, but I am simply moved by how friendly and hard-working the workers are! The food is around the same quality as that of other korean bbq places, but it is quite a bit cheaper (than say, peppa's or yummy's). Also, the vegetables tend to be a big more salty and oily, so if you like more flavor in your sides then you might like the veggetables here. I really like the kimchee here, because I like salty kimchee. The Korean woman that owns the place is very very friendly, and the younger women who usually work here are also friendly. I don't care for the bubble drinks... Sorry! The consistency of the bubble drinks here is very bad... Liquidy and syrupy with occasional ice cold lumps.

Drive into the Kapahulu Safeway parking lot, locate 'Good to Grill' or 'Gamestop' (to the left of Safeway) and you will see YoonCy Bbq! This eatery is strictly take-out. When ordering the regular size plate, it comes with two LARGE scoops of rice along with four veggie choices. I ended up getting the Kal Bi plate which costed around $9.50. I received four thin pieces of Kal Bi that tasted OK, it could have used more marinating. The long rice and Kim Che was bland.

i highly recommend this place to anyone in the kapahulu area or want great food at a great price! it's worth it to try this place. the portions are so huge i have to eat it in two meals or share with my wife. the place is very clean when you walk in and all the sides you choose looks super fresh and tasty. the girl that usually works there when i go is super friendly and very helpful with their menu. you can get a single portion meal, mini size or up to a 3 combo selection. man talk about choices you have to make. their menus selection is perfect, they have everything you would want in a take out korean bbq place. I ordered the spicy chicken and kalbi. very tasty, nice and hot, the rice wasn't mushy and the veggies were spot on. i've had the meat jun, fish jun, and bbq chicken before, but the spicy chicken is their best! they accept credit cards, and have a couple seats inside for you to wait for your food and a couple tables outside if you want to eat it right there. Enjoy everyone!

A korean bbq place that takes credit cards? That's 5-star worthy in itself. That aside, the food and service are great. Great selection and quality of sides (although kimchi cucumber availability is hit or miss). Good portion size, almost need 2 hands to carry the container. For any plate-lunch place, the standard is their mac salad and YoonCy's is right up there. Their spicy bbq chicken is awesome too. Only complaint is that the kalbi isn't consistent. It's never bad, but sometimes too thin and more well-done than I like. But it's always flavorful and tender. I go here a few times a month, and usually order the kalbi/spicy bbq chicken combo. Lately she's been sticking a fried mandoo in my plates when I order; I don't know if I'm special or not, but it's a nice surprise. One time, I was going to run to safeway while my food was being cooked to grab a Monster, so I asked her how much hers were. She told me, "$2.75, but Safeway has them on sale for $2 so you can have it for that." She's always smiling and very friendly. I'll keep coming back to YoonCy.

In a world full of Korean BBQ joints, this one is my favorite. The BBQ chicken is really tasty -- marinated and seasoned really well. It comes off the grill with a nice layer of sticky sauce that gets all over your rice. MMMMMM! This is also my fave chicken katsu around -- I think this one is also marinated because under that crispy panko exterior is a nice layer of tasty chicken-y goodness. The side dishes rock. The garlic potato salad is like the one at Yummy's only this one is better. The cuke kimchee, the cabbage kimchee, seaweed are also better than a lot of the other BBQ spots out there. The people that work there are friendly and nice. I think it's the owner and her niece that are always there when I go at night. BTW, if you're a big rice eater, you might be unhappy. They definitely don't overload your plate with too much rice but I'm a big eater and I've never had the wrong meat-to-carb ratio! Oh, and of course, parking totally stinks in the Safeway shopping center but this place is worth the effort. Go try!

  • Dawn H.

As far as Korean food goes, this place definitely ranks at the top for me. The owner Son (Sp?) is super nice and very sweet. She always lets me try the different sides they have. The food is fresh, tasty and they are fast. The prices can't be beat - I think every dish is under $10.00 and this includes the regular size plates which have HUGE portions. Try the bubble tea drinks - she can alter it so that they are not sicky sweet. I probably eat here 5 times a month.

I love YoonCy's like some people love their children. Their Meat Jun is the best I have ever had, hands down. They also have random delicious items like poke (amaaazing). It doesn't hurt that it is also lower priced than other more popular korean bbq places. It also helps that the woman who runs YoonCy's is one of the most friendly and hardworking person ever. Often I will see her close later than advertised with a smile or greeting her regulars. If I was ever to leave Oahu I would miss this place

Best food. Best people. Best BBQ chicken. I eat there almost everyday on account that its so near my house, but even on the event that I did live far I would still come in. Their service is delectable and their food is to die for. Personally I enjoy the BBQ chicken with a side of potato salad or green beans. Highly recommend!

  • Bun M.

Lots of choices here. My favorate was the fried chicken wings, oh so juicy! And the Meat jun was full of flavor. The BBQ chicken was a bit on the dry side and so was the Katsu. Will try some of their other meats next time!

Nearly every block in Hawaii is home to some kind of Korean Barbecue, and Kapahulu Avenue is no stranger to grilled grindz topping rice and sitting next to choy sum, cuddle fish, mac salad and nasty-ass potatoes covered in mayonnaise. YoonCY is just like everyone else who prepares deep fried and grilled deliciousness. Sooo similar that it's suspiciously familiar menu images are almost exactly like the ones found at Yummy or Peppa... in fact the plates on the photographs say that the photos are supposed to be for Pearl's Korean. I guess its just a generic photo that anyone can hang in there Korean Barbecue store, they all taste the same, might as well look the same. I came here because I was going to my typical hang out - Safeway and I was craving the Queen of Korean - Gina's! But like anyone who uses Yelp religiously, I was set on trying out a new location so I could review it later. bottom line: "Regular" plate was $9, and I think its a good amount of food and definitely feeds two. Totally typical tasting so nothing stood out. Not much else you can say about this place...If I was craving a Korean Plate I'd stick to my favorite spot: Gina's, but if I were already here I'd stop in again. A-OK is A-OK.

This Korean place is very good and very clean. The food always tastes fresh. I like the Meat Jun and BBQ chicken. They offer your choice of brown or white rice and extensive vegetable selection. We go here all the time. My husband is a huge fan of Korean BBQ so we have tried many places on the island. This is our favorite by far. The price is very reasonable for how much food you get. Portions are big. The wait time to get your food is not long, and they are cooking it to order in the back.

Good food, good value. Nice people, fast service, plenty parking. I bought 2 combo plates (Aloha and YoonCy) for 4 people and we had leftovers to take home. Everything tasted good! Highly recommended!

  • Thomas M.

I love this place! It's my favorite Korean BBQ I've found since moving back to the islands. Spicy BBQ Chicken rules here, it's actually spicy and isn't overcooked like at a lot of places. The staff is always really friendly and it's an amazing value for your money. I give YoonCy's a 3.5. This would have been 4 stars but...NO FREE REFILS? REALLY? 50 cents isn't a lot of money but I mean you have a self serve soda fountain...a refill should go without saying.

This space used to be occupied by Yummy Korean BBQ a while back & it was odd that the new tenants provided almost identical menu items to YKB! In fact, not only did they offer the precise same items, they even provided the same plate options. I ordered the kaibi reg plate, BBQ chicken reg plate & kalua pork plate. The meats were seasoned well & the veggies were great. Broccoli was al dente, cabbage was flavorful, & the cucumbers were slightly spicy with a sweet kick to 'em. All plates came with 2 scoops of rice and there was enough food for 3 people to eat 2 meals. The kim chee was a lil on the salty side but for the most part everyone enjoyed the food.

Boba drinks are made from powder and apparently they run out of Boba. Not super friendly either. Won't be back.

  • Kimberly L.

Almost exactly like my old standby Yummy, but not as good in the taste category. They almost had all the same sides as Yummy, but the vegetables were all too undercooked and hard, plus they didn't cut them into bite-sized pieces...cabbage is really hard to eat when it's raw and in huge chunks! The rice was kind of mushy and the chicken didn't taste quite as POW, but everything was still decent. The following day I got a boba milk tea. Sad to say, they use a powder instead of real milk tea! And they blended it with too much ice, so it was in giant hail lumps. What's good is that their boba is a great consistency--not gooshy yet cooked all the way though. I probably won't be back because there are so many other options in the area.

Portion size are great for the price. I like having the options of ordering mini that comes with two sides if you aren't massively hungry and regular comes with 4 sides. The bf loves the fried garlic chicken and they are boneless. I usually get the kalbi, a lot of fat on them though but so good. Sides include Kim chi, crab salad, mac salad, corn, potatoe salad ( not your usual though, think it's better than most), tofu (not infused with much flavor but that's tofu for you), cabbage salad in a sesame sauce(my fav), and the list goes on. They are a bit stingy on refills and water cups, but oh well. The mini does fill you up.

We've been going to YoonCy BBQ Korean take out on occasion and we got to like the food there but couple weeks ago, we tried their Kalua Pork plate for the first time and was surprised and a little dismayed to see how "little" a serving of kalua pork there was. :( To be honest, our initial thought was that it looked like a veggie (korean tsukemono) plate lunch. The "sides" and rice portion was very generous but there was hardly any kalua pork and what made it worse was, we paid $9.00+ for that plate.

  • Kayla L.

Love it here! The vegetables and the food are very tasty and the prices aren't bad either. I usually get a vegetable plate when we come here, but I've tried the bbq chicken and meat jun and they're pretty good as well. I love that it's right near Safeway as well. I do my shopping and eat Korean food right after.

the food is so cheap, the ladies that work there, so nice, and that dang spicy bbq chicken is so good! also, they accept credit cards - huge plus - no stressing about having cash/going to an ATM. they have a lot of veggie choices too, there's always something new/different when I go. a regular plate can feed me for like, 3 days. personally, I like it better than Gina's. I'm into sitting at the outside tables and eating. especially after dark.

I thoroughly enjoyed my take-away dining experience here; which is a pretty rare occasion since I find most korean bbqs overpriced and greasy. The bbq chicken was quite tasty, the fish jun was decent and the vegetables were fresh and crispy. The poke plate was a lot better than expected! Prompt, polite service with reasonable prices. I like this place much better than Peppa's!

LOVE LOVE LOVE YOONCYS When I first discovered this little gem my boyfriend and I were regulars for a good 2 weeks..then when I could not button my pants than I had to stop! haha This is my top pick for reccomending to customers, I love this place. I almost always order the Yooncy special, or the Kalbi. There is plenty meat, unlike other places that the Kalbi is all fat but the meat here is perfect. My boyfriend likes the loco moco, you get sooo much food even a Hawaiian needs help finishing it all! It is usually the same girl working every time, super friendly family and they work really hard. Everything is fresh and ono..and you get FOUR sides. how awesome =] Def give this places 5 stars, take into consideration how small the staff and place is, they do a killer job getting delicious food to you in a timely manner. I think its the best in town..

The food is not good. I ordered the special with a little bit of everything. I wanted to like it, since this place is so convenient, but cannot give it more than two stars. Definitely too much ginger; otherwise bland. Does not taste "bad" or "gross". I mean, I finished it. Just nothing special. They were very friendly though, and the place is clean. Good price. Maybe this place would be better in an area with less options, but it's right on Kapahulu. Gina's is right down the road. Kimberly T's review was accurate. A not as good-tasting Yummy.

Korean BBQ take out is not hard to come by if you live in Honolulu, and you may already have a favorite chain you frequent based on familiarity. If you don't know where to look, it can be tough to find a quality Korean BBQ take out option even if it's been hiding in plain sight. YoonCy BBQ maintains the friendly charm of a mom and pop shop in the suburbs. You will often be greeted by a sweet woman who will take your order and maintain a calm order to this popular and often crowded restaurant. After having a not-so-stellar experience at the Korean BBQ restaurant in Kahala Mall, YoonCy has become the place I swear by for take out plate lunch. The soups are freshly made and consistently prepared to order. If you aren't a fan of beef, you can order mandoo or kimchee and tofu soup. The sides are fresh and can even be ordered for a large crowd for catering. If you're like me and cannot decide with just four choices, you have the option of getting another four to splurge on eight tasty compliments to any meal. It's cheaper than ordering a cocktail at a bar and will decidedly last longer.

    1. VERDICT/VALUE More expensive than Gina's BBQ but you get tender meats and top-notch to-go meals at a reasonable price. Recommended! 2. FOOD The YoonCy Special ($12.49) comes with beef kalbi, BBQ beef, and BBQ chicken served on rice. It comes with 4 sides (broccoli, seaweed, choy, and kimchi today) and a gau gee. Tender meats, great sides, this is a fantastic hungry-man's meal! The Bi Bim Bap ($8.49) comes with tender beef, choy, and cabbage served on rice, topped by an egg. Another successful dish! 3. SERVICE Great for a takeout place and the wait isn't long. 4. ATMOSPHERE It really is take-out only here; there are some communal tables and chairs outside of the shop in the complex that can be used; the ample parking in the shopping complex makes coming here easy.

Korean take out places are numerous, but I can add this one to a list of good places to grab food. really clean korean take out. Veggies are fresh and their fish jun was good. The whole take out plate was prepared well and food wasn't just tossed in haphazardly. Nothing fancy but sometimes that's all that you need for a meal.

This is the best place for people that are ballin on a budget, like yours truly. Each of the plates are easily enough for two people and they are so cheep and tasty that it makes a great meal for two. I love the fact that you get to choose 4 sides to go with every meal. I always choose the tofu, kimchi, long rice, and mac salad, but they have a lot more choices. The only down side is that there is no seating inside, and very little outside. I usually go with my girlfriend and pick up a YoonCy special to go so we can split it back at our place. The couple that run the restaurant are always there and they are the cutest thing, they are so nice to everyone. The location on Kapahulu is very convenient if your in Waikiki, or going to Waikiki. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great tasting cheep meal.

Tasty Korean food to go at a great price. The BBQ chicken meal is $9.41 with tax and includes two large pieces of chicken along with four generously portioned sides of your choice. The choy sum and green beans are wonderfully cooked so they still have a crisp to them and are only lightly seasoned which I love. The cucumbers are sweet, tangy and spicy and I'm sure I could eat an entire bowl of just those. The fourth choice is always a toss up for me between the glass noodles and the potato salad. If you want to indulge in some potatoey mayonaissey goodness, definitely go for the potato salad! Unfortunately the bean sprouts here don't do it for me as they are lacking something...I think sesame oil. The meat jun has a really great flavor but is a little heavily breaded for my liking, but I suppose I'll order it if my pants are ever fitting particularly loose. :)

Korean food is one of my favorite foods. I can eat it anytime of the week! They have a new system here where you write down your own sides, which is easier and faster if they have a crowd, because sometimes this place does get a little busy. The women behind the register was very friendly, and kind. She took our complicated order with no problem (we ordered 5 plates lol). Food: So majority of the times when I used to come here id get the Meat jun. Lately I've been craving spicy or anything with a kick. More like bulgogi type is what I crave. So I hopped on Yelp to see if someone has yet described the spicy sauce here and they didn't! They just keep saying it's the best it's awesome. Well folks let me tell you! I ordered the spicy pork & beef combo, I was half expecting it to be super spicy but it wasn't! It was perfect just how I like it, in a bulgogi type spice way. Hot but a little sweet subtle and delicious. Now I can't speak for the spicy bbq chicken I don't know if it's the same sauce but if it is, I'd like to try that next. They give choke food, so if your hungry this is the place to come too! Great prices doesn't brake your wallet! I'll be back for sure!

Nice people. Food was very salty. Ordered the bbq chicken plate w/ jap chae and vegetables. All very salty. Unfortunately, I couldn't eat more than two bites without feeling as though my blood pressure was going to rise.

DELECTABLE! Got the spicy BBQ chicken dinner. Comes with 2 scoops of rice and 4 choices of vegetables/sides. Get the garlic potato salad no matter what. Huge yummy portions, very fair price. Love this place!

Always consistent here. Aunty at the front is always super nice, no matter how busy she is. Got the Aloha special tonight, no rice with an extra side in place of rice :)

I also like to cater from here for small parties of 8 to 25 because it is always good and it is also super economical!

really, i know 5 stars is a bit much but they're sooo affordable and they have brown rice.

I am surprised this place doesn't have a long line, that's how good their food tastes. My girlfriend and I are very picky about what we eat and after tasting their food we are both so satisfied with the quality taste and style of this BBQ. I highly recommend this place.

It's a great place for a lite dinner. They have a keiki plate that's around $5.00, scoop of rice, one salad. Great place to buy something to eat after doing grocery shopping at the Kapahulu Safeway. I usually get the BBQ beef keiki plate.

I love eating from yooncy. They are always friendly, prices are good, food is delicious and there vegetables are always fresh. I get my usuals meat jun and the taste and texture is always consistent. I highly recommend everyone to eat from yooncy. You will not regret it!

I love this place! Food is amazing! Spicy chicken and veggies... Yum!

Go try!

  • Katkat K.

    (5)

    (1)

Came here after shopping at Safeway. It smells delicious in here and the food looked delicious as well. Their prices are fairly reasonable and the service was excellent. Awesome food

  • Angela D.

    (2)

  • Annie H.

the food is so cheap, the ladies that work there, so nice, and that dang spicy bbq chicken is so good! also, they accept credit cards - huge plus - no stressing about having cash/going to an ATM. they have a lot of veggie choices too, there's always something new/different when I go. a regular plate can feed me for like, 3 days. personally, I like it better than Gina's.

    (5)
  • Kelisitofa L.

They offer brown rice!!! They laughed when I ordered it but it was really good. BBQ Spicy Chicken was delicious, broccoli was perfect. The place is very clean and the people are nice.

  • Sherylynn S.

  • Mai S.

    (4)
  • T N.

Absolutely love this place. Love their kalbee, spicy bbq chicken and spicy bbq pork. Always get their family pack for dinner and it ends up being lunch for the next day between the two of us. I love Gina's, but since Yooncy came along they've taken the #1 spot on my list.
