Great expectations Reputable Yelpers have dined here, had cocktails here, maybe played a round of Pool or a game of darts. Friday night..on my way home, I figure I'd give this place a try. It's 6:15 pm or so and it looked crowded but not really. Tables were open, seats at the bar was available, so we grab a seat at the bar. Order of chicken gizzards and Mac and cheese truffle balls ordered. Next question was what scotch sat in the well. Answer? No scotch in the well. What? No scotch in the well? Okay, I order a Heineken. Happy hour beer prices- miller light= $2.25, Heineken= $3.50 scotch and soda= $5.00 ( remember, these are happy hour prices....) While the fried texture of the Mac and cheese balls were good, it seemed as if they were pre fried and sat under some warmer because we got our order at room temperature. The chicken gizzards were diced into little pieces then breaded then deep fried, which is probably why the batter took center stage (more batter than gizzard). If I had to rate this place on food and drink, I'd probably give them 3 stars. Their cocktail servers earned them an additional star; but then, they are new... maybe in a little while, the bugs of a new operation will be worked out. That said, it will be a while but I may stop in again...

My husband introduced me and my friends to this place over a year ago when he planned a surprise birthday for me here, and from the beginning we loved every bite of food. There is nothing on the menu we don't like, but my favorites are the dynamite chicken, mac and cheese poppers and the pizza. The chicken is fried but the batter is so light and airy you'd never know it. The mac and cheese is deep fried...enough said. I have no idea how they make the pizza crust so crispy and light, but it makes eating even the one with ALL the meat feel guiltless. Top it all off with The Underdog from the drink menu, which tastes like an alcoholic Strawberry Julius, and you'll be a happy camper. But guess what?! THEY REVAMPED THE MENU AND IT'S EVEN MORE AWESOME!! The kalua pig nachos are served over waffle fries instead of chips. Great idea because IF there are leftovers to take home (there probably won't be), you won't have soggy chips. What I loved about the seafood spinach dip is that you can tell he uses fresh spinach! The green is so vibrant and well balanced with the crab and shrimp that you'll think you're being healthy! I'm well pleased that they added onion rings to the menu, but even more pleased that a little birdie told me they are gonna revamp the menu again to include dessert!!! I sampled some and you guys are gonna go crazy for it! Best dessert I've had in over a year! I can't wait until they unveil it!

Had a horrible layover at the airport and decided to kill some time at the nearest bar, while the outside looks a bit questionable it was definitely one of the best experiences. The owner provided us with exceptional hospitality and service, from excellent drinks to calling us a cab and checking our flight status this man was superb. So friendly and inviting we now call him Uncle Nick, so if you're ever in the area definitely come here for a good time whether it be drinks or a game of pool or darts. This place is what's up!

You know the saying "Don't judge a book by it's cover?" Well, that saying fits well here. I became really interested in this place after reading a few reviews from fellow yelpers since they seemed to like it. Even though I kind of knew what to expect, I was still surprised at how decent this placed turned out to be. They are fairly new and haven't even had their grand opening yet, which will be on April 24th 13. Okay, let's breakdown my experience. First: The LOCATION can be tricky to find. They are located on the right side of Waikamilo Street heading toward the ocean right after colburn street. Right after Midas auto. Their sign is white which is lit up at night. We almost drove past them the first time. Since we arrived around 8:30, there was still a decent amount of PARKING. However, when we left 4 hours later (12:30AM) the parking lot was a mess. The parking lot has roughly about 48 stalls or so. When that's full, cars will start to double park. Probably because street parking here can be risky. Underdogs will announce over a PA or something telling you to move your car if your blocking someone. Parking here is also very tight. Tighter than a ........................... Once we got inside: The ENVIRONMENT was very nice. It reminds me somewhat of a smaller Home B&G. Probably around half the size. They have about 5 dartboards and a pool table. Bathrooms are clean (for now at least) Tip - You can call to reserve a table but shhh don't tell anyone, it's a secret. I want to keep reserving tables at the last minute like I did for this time. FOOD and DRINKS here are very good. There were 8 of us and between us we got to try the: Truffle Mac and Cheese - This was one of better dishes of the night. They make theirs into big balls that were full of creamy goodness. They looked so appetizing that I wanted to stuff the entire ball into my mouth but it was too big and wouldn't fit. Dynamite Chicken - Do you like dynamite sushi? Yes? Then try this, it's awesome. Pesto Pizza - I was very impressed with their pizza. Thin crispy crust with strong pesto flavor that matches well with the cheese. Kimchee Fried Rice - Yes, I know that dish is seen everywhere and yes, it's just as good. Get it if your a fan. The drinks here are the usual stuff that most bars have except.. they serve FLAVORED SOJU and they are cheaper then cafe duck butt. The price for a bottle is around 13 I think, which is cafe duck butts prices on happy hour only. If you never tried flavored soju yet then it's a must try. You will get hooked and drunk..or drunk then hooked. What I am trying to say is that it's potent but you don't taste much of the alcohol. SERVICE here was not the same for everyone in our party. We were all paying separate and I personally did not have any problems. However, one of my friends claims he was not getting the same service. Since this is my review on my experience than I will personally say that the service was good. We pretty much had one server for 8 of us so IMO she did a pretty good job handling most of us. To be fair though, the place wasn't fully packed of our first 2 hours there. I am not sure when his service started going bad but if it was within the first 2 hours then I could totally understand his frustration. Overall, I think this place has the potential to be a great place but since they are new, they still need to iron some kinks but I would totally come here again.

It's all about the food. The bar is cranking and the prices are low. We ordered the Mac & Cheese Truffle Balls (very good). Pizza was interesting. Service was attentive. Parking Sucks

I've been here a few times but this complaint is for business practices on reservations. I called a week in advance to reserve a table for the NCAAF championship game for 12. Was told that the manager will call me back to confirm so I gave a number to call before 3pm and a number to call after 3pm since I can't bring in my personal phone in to work. The manager called the wrong number before 3pm but no big deal because I was able to call back after work and CONFIRM MY RESERVATION ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE. Then the day of the game we spend our own personal leave (which we earn) to head down to Underdogs. I check my personal phone and notice that there is one text message received at 8:24am saying that I needed to confirm my reservation by noon or else I lose my reservation! WTF?! I called the number and was told that we had no table! The manager claimed to have left a voice message and text the day before. I KNOW that's a lie because I can see that she has iMessage and even if my phone didn't get it, my MacBook air does and I was on that sucker until 11pm the night before! What kind of business sends a text, anyway? And on the day OF with only 3.5 hours to confirm?? I DID confirm one week in advance! They didn't even utilize the number that I left them to call before 3pm. So there were 12 people scrambling and making all kinds of calls to find somewhere to watch the game, using leave that we will NEVER get back. The manager wasn't even trying to make it right and kept asking if I want to leave a message for the owner to call me back (because I wanted to speak to someone higher than her) and, when I said yes, she hung up on me. Classy. I have been a part of the restaurant and hospitality industry for 14 years now so I knew that I did everything I could as a customer giving ample time to reserve and even confirming it. But not being near my phone during that 3.5 hour window to confirm a reservation that I already did, even when they had my number to call before 3pm??? That's unsat. Yes, maybe I should have called that day on my own to verify my reservation, but their business hours are posted to open at 2pm, so even if I had called at 1pm, my reservation would have been lost, anyway. The food was okay and the service was decent all other times that I went there but now they'll never get the chance to make my experience a better one because I'm boycotting it. AND I work at the shipyard so, unfortunately for them, word gets around about a business which, in turn, gains a lot or loses a lot of business based on who you know. And I know many. They just shorted their servers a minimum of 20% tip from a HUGE gathering of easy going, fun, and considerate people. Good job.

Came here on a whim because we were in the area. I heard about this place and this was the opportunity to try it out. It's somewhat hard to find but if you have GPS it would not be a problem. The sign was small too but you will be able to see a lot of cars parked in the front. I suggest finding parking on the street (which I think is not that difficult). It was pretty busy the two times I came but the waitress were quick to get us a table. I suggest to make reservations if you're party is big. This is a bar so expect it to be loud. They have live karaoke and it cost $1 per song (normal price). They give you a binder with songs(somewhat popular) and you write it down and give it to the waitress. As for food we ordered the pork chops, furikake chicken, pork and tots, and yakisoba noodles with katsu. Everything was good except for the pork chops. The pork chop had too much fatty meat on them. But other than that everything was well made. The service was really excellent and all the servers are really attentive. Good place to chill if you are in the area. Might be a little shady at the surrounding areas because it is in the middle of nowhere.

Pretty good place. Although located in a "rough area', the food doesnt disappoint and the atmosphere is very homely and relaxed. Seems as if this is a spot for locals. But all in all, definitely would recommend to others and hang there again.

Super chill bar! We came here on a Monday night at around 8pm and it was empty... We pretty much had the place to ourselves. It was a nice to have a chill night with the friends where we didn't have to scream at each other because of an overly loud place. The service was great, staff was very friendly and attentive. Their menu is awesome! Both the drinks and food was so unique. They had different flavors of sochu that we tried including melon, strawberry, and yogurt flavors! They were all really good. Didn't take any shots that night but on the menu they had like Breakfast Pancake shot, Root Beer Float, and Caramel Apple?? Sounded so interesting...next time! As far as food we tried: Garlic Edamame~ Super garlicy!! Yummmm! Truffle Mac n Cheese Poppers~ Like little fried balls of mac n cheese with marinara sauce and jalapenos, BOMB!! Dynamite Chicken~ Chicken karaage with like ponzu sauce and furikake and other goodness! The bottom pieces were a little salty because they were soaking in the sauce on the bottom but still a great dish! Garlic New York Steak~ AWESOME!!! Had a delicious garlic crust thing on the top served with onions and mushrooms all sitting in oil and juices. This steak was AMAZEBALLS! Basically I'm so excited we found this place cause now we have a new place to hang out and take the rest of our friends! And I was surprised to hear that the take reservations so I'll definitely suggest this place to people looking for a good large party spot :).

A hole in the wall bar in Kalihi... Now now... Easy on the judgements on Kalihi... You won't get mugged... You won't get shot... Even if you did, it's worth it when you come here haha. I came here with my bf and his friends late one night. I've seen this place when it used to be Akone's, but I've never set foot inside. There is parking in front of the vicinity, but it can be quite tight as there is only one way in and out. I'm not sure if you're able to use the parking spots next to their building, it looks like it's for the other business. I rarely go to bars and when I usually do, it's usually dirty gross and sticky haha. But to my surprise Underdog is the complete opposite. The first thing I saw is one of the waitresses busting out desanitizer spray wiping down the table -- LOVED that. There is nothing worse than sitting down on a table that's dirty. The place looked bigger inside than it did outside. We had a party of 6, and the other parties next to us had about 10-15 people. Our waitress was nice and attentive. I was hungry and it seemed liked they had a lot of yummy things on their menu. My bf and I ordered the agedashi (sp?) tofu, Kim Chee Fried Rice, and Furikake Garlic Chicken. I loved loved loved their Garlic Chicken! So yummy and I would definitely have it again. It was perfectly crispy but juicy inside. The taste was delicious, not too overpowering but strong enough to have that garlicky flavor. I had a bit of the kimchee fried rice and it was really good. It wasn't too spicy for my liking (I don't like it when things are really spicy). The tofu was AMAZING!!! What, tofu? Bar food? YES!!! It had a delicious sauce to it and I loved the ginger and sesame oil that they put on it. So so so good and possibly one of the best agedashi tofu I've had. Better than Doraku. The service was awesome, I was surprised at attentive our waitress was, usually at a busy bar it's hard to flag them down. But she was always checking up on us, made sure our waters were always filled, etc. They have some dart games and we played a few rounds of that, nothing too fancy. This is a great place in Kalihi with amazing bar food. It definitely knocked out my expectations of the place for sure, I will definitely come back for the food. It definitely is the "home bar and grill of Kalihi". Way to go Kalihi!!!

Absolutely love this place! I am so grateful to have finally found a bar that is clean, conveniently located, with great food and drinks that isn't a dive bar! Pork chops are on point! Their strawberry soju is great too! The only reason this place doesn't have 5 stars is because parking can be a biaaaatch depending on how late you go and some of the waitresses are very inexperienced.

The food is awesome! But the place is dead. My guy and I got here close to 830. Only like 3 people were there. We waited til almost 10 but no. I feel bad because the food is so good!

Since the place it new, it's a good venue to go to just to see what it's all about. I went on a Monday night and it wasn't too crowded, so we were able to make use of the dart boards and pool table. I didn't order food and instead picked off everyone else's plates. Everything I had was awesome - blackened ahi, quesadilla, fries, nachos. Great bar food. As for drink specials, there aren't many on the night I went, but I couldnt' get enough of their LYCHEE DROP shot!!

My favorite place to eat and enjoy good company in a convenient, clean and fun atmosphere. Staff is helpful, knowledgable and attentive without being too overbearing. The #1 thing I like about Underdogs is the food. It's delicious, generous portions, good flavor, excellent variety and innovative. Check to see the daily specials not listed on the menu. My faves include the pork and tots, chicken pesto pizza, blackened ahi, Asian chicken katsu and the fried rice. The burger and local moco are fan favorites and the crowd loves the sizzling steak too. Drink specials are unique, delicious and sweet! My favorite is the breakfast pamcakes, melona and shochujito. I was a little hesitant to post about this place because I feel like it's a little well kept secret in Kalihi, but I wish them much success and the word is spreading about how great the atmosphere, food and bar is...so might as well send a review to help this first timers. Cheers!

Yay, my first Yelp review after being a member for a few years, haha. This review is for yesterday, 05/05/13. Anyways, after a long day at work the coworkers and I wanted to get a few beers and some bomb food. We decided to go Aloha Beer Co at first but found out their kitchen closed at 4pm on a Sunday, whatevs. Luckily my friend has been here already so he suggested we come here instead of our second option, Homebar. We all agreed to come here since we were in the area. Thumbs up for agreeing with him! They have their own parking lot with tight stalls but lots of parking which is a good thing. We came at a good time because they weren't too busy. Went through the door and it was a nice place. Atmosphere gave a good vibe. Darts in the front, Pool table in the back. Lots of tables in between. Great service! Our waitress was very friendly although I didn't catch her name. She constantly checked up on us which was nice. Prices are decent for the amount of food they give. We had the Kim Chee Fried Rice which was bomb! Probably one of the best ones i've had. The Truffle Mac & Cheese Poppers were super yummy. Definitely can't go wrong with comfort food. Highly recommend getting them both. The Calamari was nothing special but it was still good. Our beer was less than $5 each with no tax. I definitely wanna try their Sojus next time along with the other specialty drinks they have. Oh and I wanna try the other food items that was listed in previous posts. Overall, we had a great first experience! Most definitely bringing my boyfriend here for my next visit!

Absolutely love this place!!!! Mahalo Kanoe for the eye opener!! The food was bar none delish. I can't say enough about the chilled tofu!! Drinks were average but it was the menu that keeps me coming back. It's clean, the staff is great, and the atmosphere is totally trendy and casual at the same time. If you want great food, great service, and a fun night out UNDERDOGS is where it is at!!! If I had to make a wish it would be more seating and a larger venue!!

Underdogs?!? Sounds like a longshot.... I ended up trekking to "what is this place we're going to?"Wifey says: A bar and grill similar to "Duckbutt". Puzzled look "Yeah Whatevers", so knowing the area pretty good "Born & Raised in Kalihi", thought of it as just another hole in the wall. Located near Colburn & Waikamilo, not too shabby warehouse area with a parking lot for 20+ cars, HINT: Trucks make it a tight fit. Walked in and...WELL, WELL, OOH LA LA...."They have Darts!" BIAS, my favorite self coordination test game. This place is VERY Spacious. The tables are well positioned creating an open atmoshpere and moving flow for patrons and servers. The service is excellent. I had water for the evening, though a "DD", was extremly pleased that my water glass was never empty and the servers always checked in with our party. The little things like that shows experienced workers and not like some other places... The Food and Beverage kept on flowing for our party. I can't say much for the drinks but the food was like no other. Keeping the menu simple instead of numerous items to choose from, makes things easier for everyone. So I think their concept of keeping things simple and dishing out quality works for them. The shavings of bonito flakes, and a dish topped with an over easy egg and sauces to spike your senses are some of the little things that compliment the flavor and presentation of each dish. If every dish could speak to you, they would say.... Eat Me, Put it in your mouth, Eat Me Now, Don't Stop, More More More, Take It Slow and Saviour it......No people it aint sex, but its Food Porn at a Reasonable price. Sampled some of these and they gave me a happy ending. "NIHON Steak is PERFECT!", Truffle Mac & Cheese "Explosive", Chicken Dynamite "Da Bomb", Basket of Calamari "Tasty", Pork Chops "SO ONO", Tater Totts "Gone Wild". In the end, not like DuckButt, A notch better imo..... You'll need try it yourself, Enjoy.

Went there to watch the NFC championship game, staff was very efficient and pleasant. Food was very good and portions was big, this is not a hole in the wall bar but a place you can feel comfortable to have a drink and eat. My favorite dish was the kimchee fried rice and sizziling steak!

Whoa! Bar food...HECK YEAH!! Came in after a CMYE Movie event at Dole and this was the perfect place to go. Conveniently located near the theater, Richard K and I head down there for some great food and drinks. Al, is a shoe in for "the best bartender in the world" category. Hooking up some delicious cocktails, we definitely enjoyed our night! Kalua Pork Quesadillas are to die for!!! Truffle Mac & Cheese is money...add the squeeze of lemon and it is something you better not miss out on. Going back for the UYE next week for sure! Oh, yeah...I kinda have to...Im co-hosting it with RussKar! Listed in: I'm Thirsty...

Who's been here!? Nobody yet. When you are on the way to airport and don't know where to pause; go to Underdogs. They want to do food like Home Bar and have a chef who spends his other time cooking at Halekulani! His food is simple, and good. Big Pork chops ala Side Street, but not deep fried. I hear they do a great Rib eye, pupu style too. Will return to try more when thefacist airport attendants say 'go around again,' I might make the arriving passengers taxi to Underdogs, where I can wait and grind and sip my cocktail!

This place is so awesome! It may not look like much on the outside, but as soon as you walk in and look at the menu, you'll know you'll have a great time and eat super delicious food! Happy Hour is from 2-7!! But the food and drinks in general are reasonably prices anyway. Definite must try is the Strawberry Shoju pitcher, nihon steak, furikake garlic chicken and kimchee fried rice. :) Fantastic atmosphere. Great service. Darts, pool table and karaoke.

Great atmosphere going on here. Love it!!! Not too many BAR bar's left these days and the best part is that this place serves great food. Extremely friendly staff and patrons. Only thing I could say that could use some improvement is the nachos. They don't match up to their other menu items. All others are truly top-notch dishes. I'll keep coming back to this place for sure.

Unfortunately unable to give zero stars, so I had to give it 1 star. The third time is definitely not the charm for me here. I've had pleasant experiences there the previous two times, but not this time. Got there a little after 5pm, to someone singing( if that's what you call it) karaoke, definitely a mood killer. Dart boards at both sides of the front door, strange place for it, in my opinion. The tables in the place were half full, the other half were all reserved. Only place left to sit was at the bar. Sat there for a few minutes, waiting for someone to take our order. Finally, the bartender comes up to us and tells us we can sit there for 15 minutes, but will have to move because the 7 seats at the bar were reserved. Never heard of seats at the bar being reserved, especially with no reserved sign. Told him there were no tables available, his response, "Yeah, it gets crowded on the weekend." But he had no solution. Definitely the last time I'll go there. I'll stick to Side Street Inn or Home Bar & Grill.

okay, i'll admit i laughed when i read someone's review saying it was "the home bar of kalihi." when i walked inside and read the menu i totally got it. like all the other reviews say.... parking sucks. and it looks sketchy on the outside but very clean and new on the inside. lots of tvs, a few dart boards, and one pool table inside. there was a bar with stools and also a few high tables. don't think they had any booths. happy hour wasn't an amazing deal.... i think it was a dollar off most drinks and pricing was regular.... but the underdog strawberry soju drink was very good and the food i ordered was good too. not just "good cause i'm drunk" good, but actually decent. got the mac and cheese balls which doesn't have any distinct truffle flavor and wasn't cheesy but were strangely addicting. it wasn't oily and gross like most bar food but kind of light and clean. went well with the marinara and jalapenos. also got the nihon steak. loved the slightly sweet soy based sauce with bonito flakes, onions, and mushrooms, but the steak cut was kind of fatty. i guess some people like fat but i'm the type that discards the fat to the side and refuses to eat it. i'm definitely coming back, but only if i can get dropped off or unless it's weekday afternoon drinking time. wink wink.

HOME Bar Tater tots who? You know you've had'em, you go to HOME Bar and you order the tots because, well cuz they're F*KING awesome - everyone orders them and even when you got friends from out of town, you take them to the HOME bar cuz they're sooooo delicious. The TOTS are even the photo for the HOME bar on Yelp! But guess what? Five words knock those tots out of the top spot: Truffle Mac and Cheese Balls (TMCB). The GOOD: TMCB was killer. Not what I was expecting - I was thinking they were going to be a hard, nasty, dry noodle clusterf'k, but to my surprise - GOOEY, creamy delicious. They come stacked, sitting in a pool of marinara sauce, truffle oil and jalapenos - creating an amazing fiesta in your mouth. Next up: Yokisoba noodles topped with tonkatsu. Savory noodles with a good amount of chew. The smoked meat is used to create an oil which everything is fried in giving the whole dish a very flavorful punch. Finally, the pork chops. OMG-Amazing surprise from the pork chops. Honestly I thought this was going to be a disappointment, I thought one chop was going to come out on a bed of cabbage and ruin the night. TO MY SURPRISE: two massive 1 inch think pork chops come out, sliced up with sautéed onions and mushrooms and a small cup of spicy ketchup - it was a huge serving which tasted like a Paula Deen special (because their was a delicious butter flavor from the onions and shrooms). The BAD: Drinks. Now, I try to be fair and always include the good and the bad in every review - so, drinks are the end of the world - they were just the 'worst' part of the night. So what happened was - I ask our server, what you got on tap? She lists off a small list of 'light' beers... umm, okay... so just to get it over with I say I'll take a Coors Light. She comes back with a bottle. #Fail. However, our rather young waitress came back later on in the night and apologized for not know what "on tap" meant, or what a "draft" was. The bar only has bottles and the waitress was new to ... serving. No harm no foul, she was a good sport, and she got an awesome tip anyway. Another "BAD" that I was kind of 'eh' about was the Karaoke. There isn't a separate room - people just belt out classics right there in the same room as where you are dining... kind of a bummer and loud, but not a completely horrendous thing - I survived. I can only imagine that when this place gets packed, it may get uncomfortable for the easily startled. On a side note: Looking back at my pictures, I noticed our table only received 5-TMCB. However, I see other people that took pictures of their TMCB and it seems like they all got more... so maybe it's a consistency thing or maybe it was a promotional time when they first opened - whatever it is, I hope it stabilizes and a set number is given every time, or else I could see that being a negative later on. OVERALL: You MUST eat here and enjoy the TMCB. They are simply magical and while you are there, stuff your face with the pork chops because they are heaven sent as well. The service was fine and during my visit the bar was rather empty (Wednesday night at 9pm); which was probably a good time to have a somewhat quiet time with your friends. EAT HERE. You will not be upset... unless you hate tasting amazing food.

I went out with my co-workers after our Christmas Party. The pork chops were ono. The SOJU is to die for! Piña colada flavor was my favorite. The only down side is the damn parking!

I heard about this new bar from a coworker of mine and decided to check it out after work with some buddies. It's located like 5 minutes away from our work place so it's convenient to go and have some pau hana drinks. We got there and it was their "soft" opening night. Parking was a little tight but a lot of spaces available. Walked in and there were several dart board machines and a pool table in the back. Also karaoke is available. It's a pretty cool place to unwind and meet up with friends! They have all kinds of alcoholic beverages available, the Shochujitos sounds interesting, will have to try that next time! But as for the food, you will be blown away! Best pupus ever! I highly recommend the Truffle Mac and Cheese Balls, Pork and Tots, Furikake Garlic Chicken, Nachos, Fried Chicken Gizzards (my fav pupu) and also the sashimi or poke...the fish is FRESH!! Oh, and the Fries are so ono too! The bartenders and servers are really friendly and service was awesome! You will not be disappointed! The menu has a lot of different types of foods, even freshly made pizza! Check out Underdog Sports Bar and Grill with some of your pals, it's a chill place to kick back! Don't forget to bring your darts!

I'm shocked!!! A real sports bar in Kalihi?!?!?! Not some "buy me drinkie sports bar". Underdogs is a legit sports bar with good beer prices and food. Since I live close, I will be there for the Super Bowl!!! Go Broncos! Nice clean atmosphere!

Most people will shun this hidden gem just for the pure fact that its not in the trendy part of town. Nestled away in the blue collar jungle of Kalihi lies a new watering hole with all the bells and whistles of a luxury automobile but without the pretentiousness. Great pupus like the pork and tots, mac and cheese balls, and dynamite chicken add to the already jolly ambiance of their $2.50 domestic and $3.50 import laden happy hour. The only concern would be the parking but where there is a will there is a way. My advice, stay away you trendy town hoards and let the working man have this one. Definitely a diamond in the rough.

one of those "dont't judge a book by its cover" type of place. bomb food, great drinks, and chill vibes. hit up this spot before it gets popular and crowded!!! checked out this place lastnight with some friends. walked in and went straight to the bar to take a seat. was a tuesday night around 9pm and it wasn't crowded. it's like we had the whole place to ourselves. got some drinks, food, and played some pool and darts. clean restrooms, nice chairs, and cool ac. definitely gonna hit this place up again to try more of their food. and I'm glad it's down the road of where I live in kalihi.

OH MY GOSH! This place is an absolute must-try. It looks like a pretty sketch place at first located on waiakamilo road in kalihi but don't let that deter you from entering. The FOOD IS AMAZING! We had Mac and cheese poppers, Kim chee fried rice and strawberry shochu. The Mac and cheese poppers are these big, crispy popper balls stuffed with Mac and cheese (super good! But don't pack it for the next day--I ended up throwing away the leftovers). And the Kim chee fried rice is so Ono. They had Portuguese sausage, egg made your style, and lots of yummy Kim chee! I just wish they had added lots of bacon but regardless, it's still one of the best Kim chee fried rice dishes I've had. The shochu was tasty. They have a bunch of different flavored like mango and lychee and it's only 15 dollars for a carafe. Drinks seemed pretty cheap and the food was reasonably priced. They also have dart boards near the entrance of the bar. Seriously go check this place out!

We tried to go last night. There were 3 parties going on and no one at the door to tell us there were no seats going to be available for the entire evening. I don't know why hey didn't just shut down for the private events. The pool table at the rear had no one playing and if it wasn't there you could easily have 10-15 more seats available. Waitresses were busy and didn't want to be bothered with helping us or answering our questions. I really want to go back to check it out - but after the rudeness we experienced last nite - I don't really care to try their food. I'd only go if friends or coworkers plan a party because that seems like the only way they care to seat you and give good service. Also - it was so brightly lite that you realize how outdated the decor is and lack there of.

I've been frequenting this bar multiple times this entire summer, and is now my go to bar for a nice Pau Hana outting. Honestly, I prefer this bar to Home Bar for multiple reasons; easy-going crowd, pool table, karaoke, less crowded, free parking, and amazing food! I also like that it's on the outskirts of town, so you aren't quite stuck in the hustle and bustle of the city. The tater tots are better than Home Bar's, in my opinion, but not as hefty (the last time we visited with a party of 8, we had to order 2 plates since they were so good). Kimchee fried rice is also super tasty! Location seems a bit sketch, but I haven't had any problems so far. *Knocks on wood* Service could be improved a bit, but....they make it up with their food. Also, you guys should get some New Castle in stock! =D

The food here is Bomb. Best bar in Kalihi hands down! *Cough* might be better than Homebar.

Great service..yummyyy food and kid friendly! All wins! We went on a Tuesday and it wasn't too busy and the waitress was really attentive. Everything we ordered came out quickly and tasted great. The pork and tots were our favorite!

This place is probably one of my favorite bars especially because it's in town. Well not that I'm much of a bar person but for good pupus and drinks, this would be my go to place when hanging out with friends. I came here quite a few times considering I do live in Kalihi so it's a highly recommended place for local people who live in the area. The outside may look rugged but inside is a typical bar like atmosphere with tvs all around as well as tables and stools throughout the place. The first time I came here I didn't know where it was as you'll miss it if you're not familiar with this area. It's located right behind that discounted swapmeet like store. They do have a small parking lot that I'm not too fond of. Limited parking especially on weekends so your best bet will have to be to find street parking. The weekdays that I've gone there hasn't been too bad on parking, maybe because I would go later on in the evening. I went here yesterday because of the HI TRAFFIC we experienced due to the zipper lane being shut down. I wasn't surprised that this place was packed because I would too stay in town before heading down west side and sitting in traffic for more than few hours. Coming from waikiki, it already took me more than an hour half so by then I was like I need a drink. Other friends had the same idea and stopped by this place until traffic settled down so I joined them around 7pm. Even though it was jam packed with all these people having the same idea to go to a bar and let the traffic die down, the service was awesome. They tended to us periodically and always checked up on us to see if we needed anything and filled up our water when needed. Awesome comfort food of anything you order on the menu. I've tried the dynamite chicken, fried rice, fries, steak with mushrooms and onions, kalua pork quesadillas, seared cajun ahi, fried noodles with chicken katsu and the truffle mac and cheese. All very tasty and reasonable prices. Never had a problem with their food offerings that they serve here. Definitely a recommended place for those that like bar type of food and looking for a place to just hangout.

This is my favorite bar. Great food and awesome cocktails. Great ambience for the younger crowd. There's a pool table, dart boards, and always packed on UFC fight nights. We usually go during the day so parking is not a problem. Last week was the first time I went in at night and it was packed. We had to park at Goodland and walk over. Little sketchy walk at night, but once you get inside, it's all worth it! My favorite is the Nihon Steak, served on a bed of french fries. Haven't been able to figure out that sauce yet, but it's to die for. I don't eat Sashimi, but if you're into blackened ahi, they serve the biggest portion I've ever seen. But my absolute favorite is the soju cocktail. I've tried several around town, but this one is by far, my favorite! Don't judge this book by its outside. Definitely must walk in and once your try the steak and a cocktail, you will be hooked too! I promise!

Location: I was a bit put off by where this place is located. Came here for the first time to attend a bridal shower and had to question if we were at the right place because on the outside, it looked pretty rugged. And I was not a fan of the limited parking available. Don't quite feel comfortable with parking my car on the streets in that area. Decor: Interior was ok, looked how a laid-back bar is expected to look like. Tables and stools here and there, bigger chairs arranged in sections were available also. There were also darts and pool tables. Our table in fact was a pool table with a table cloth thrown over it. Food: Pretty good food I must say. Can't complain much about local food. One dish we had was pizza with bacon. Love how it wasn't bacon bits but actual bacon strips. Service: Was on point. They really took care of us. Made sure our food came out in a timely fashion and our waters were also filled to the top without us asking. They were very quick in fulfilling our requests. When we asked for extra napkins, it's there in less than three minutes. Security was good too. We had some "uncles" come talk to us a little too much, but security took care of that for us. Though the food and service were great, this place wouldn't be the first or second or even third place I would think off the top of my head when I want to have a couple of drinks and have some good food. Only because of the location, and the crowd is a bit of a hit or miss. But this is a perfect place to just come and chill without having to dress up.

Never actually been to a sports bar so I wasn't sure what to expect when I was told that we were going to Underdogs for lunch...lol I never watch football either so I somehow managed to end up at a sports bar on the busiest day of the year "Super Bowl 49". At least, I had a great time because the food was good, the staffs are friendly and even the patrons are easy going and laid back. Although the team I was supposedly rooting for didn't win, "sorry Seahawks!" I still didn't mind. We ordered the spicy ahi poke, crispy fried calamari, crispy chicken gizzards, and the sizzling New York steak. Everything tastes good, but it was way too much food for three people so we ended up taking the rest home.

From the outside, Underdogs looks pretty sketchy. Inside, it's a clean, decent looking local style bar. The night we went the place was filled with patrons happily eating and drinking. While I'm not much of a drinker, I really like bar food. And I like to think I've had my fair share of bar food. In my opinion, Underdogs has exceptional bar food that is as good and in some cases better than some of the Hawaiian regional cuisine fine dining establishments. My hands down favorite dish was the blackened ahi with spicy sauce (not on the menu). I could've eaten the entire plate! The spicy poke and furikake chicken were both a close second. The spicy poke was a little creamy and different in a good way. The furikake chicken was PERFECTLY fried and seasoned to perfection. It wasn't oily or greasy tasting either. Other tasty dishes include the truffle mac and cheese balls, pesto pizza, cold tofu, kim chee fried rice, and calamari. All solid options. Given how good the food is, I'm shocked this place isn't packed all of the time! Service was friendly and efficient. Parking, while a little tight before 6pm opens up to adjacent lots after 6p. Overall I'd say Underdogs is a definite winner!

GREAT BAR to go to in KALIHI!! Delicious food, great service, and very chill atmosphere. Good place to come and unwind with friends any day of the week. This bar has everything from Darts, Kareoke, TVs, and Pool tables to enjoy! Loved that they played good bumpin music too! Their food I really enjoyed A-LOT!!! I tried their Kalua pork nachos and Furikake garlic chicken. Their Kalua Pork Nachos were not made with original nacho chips but crispy waffled fries, which was so unique and cooked perfectly. So much YUMMY GOODNESS toppings on the nachos it definitely hit the spot in my mouth and in my tummy! Lol. The Furikake garlic chicken was really crispy and flavorful, a little sweetish and garlicky but not too much. The taste was just perfect. Lots of different types of alcoholic beverages to choose from, such as mixed drinks and beer! and so much more on their food menu I'd like to try, but I will save that for next time because I'll definitely be back for more!

Really love that this spot is in KALIHI! There are some days when the drive from the westside to anywhere beyond Kalihi is just too faaarrrrrrr. For this reason out of a few others, Underdogs is a lifesaver. Food & service is top notch, seriously. Love the kimchee fried rice, sesame chicken, bacon + sausage pizza, & the fried noodles with chicken katsu. Well... Actually, my fave was the kimchee fried rice. Big pieces of kimchee & the heat was spot on. The egg was cooked nicely too! The second time I was here was for a bridal shower/bachelorette party. They really took care of us! The food came in promptly, water cups refilled often, someone coming around to check on us every now & then, & the bouncer/security guards & other employees were quick to get this one creepy guy to leave us alone. I swear, he came around 4x asking for single girls, lol. Parking can be nonexistent on the weekend, but it's worth a shot!

I remember the first time I came here with my co-workers after a stressful day at work. We tried their strawberry soju and it was soooo good. We bought pitchers and pitchers of it. We also tried their lychee and mango sojus and they were delicious as well. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Ever since that day I've been recommending the place to friends who's around the area or we make it a meet up spot. Let's talk about the food. So far I've tried: 1) Sizzling Steak: comes out on a sizzling platter and served with onions and mushrooms... well seasoned! 2) Kim Chee Fried Rice: the right amount of everything and I actually taste the spice but I like super spicy food so I add Tabasco! 3) Chicken Gizzards: I never really ate gizzards before but after trying it at this place...I actually crave it. It's deep fried and goes well with Tabasco and Ketchup. 4) Truffled Macaroni and Cheese Poppers: these are shaped into a ball and placed onto a pool of marinara sauce which goes really well together! One of my faves! 5) Dynamite chicken: fried bite size chicken pieces drizzled with their dynamite sauce and topped with green onions... so yum! 6) Pork Chops with Mushroom and Onions: seasoned well and love the garnishes that go with it! Dip it in the Ketchup for more flavor. The only negative is their tiny parking lot but after 6PM you can park on the Save Co lot next door. That area can get packed too so you have to find street parking. Overall, one of my favorite spots in Kalihi.

I was a first timer here tonight and honestly one of my new favorite bar/food places on thee island ! Located in kalihi/Nimitz area near the McDonald this is a great place for food and drinks ! Came here with a couple of my boys and enjoyed some food along with beer and soju. Food is great here ! We had nachos, dynamite chix, garlic fries and PORK and TOTS! (Super Ono!!!) all the food is great here, will come back to try more. Prices are fair with food considering portion size and how good they really taste . Service wise, two thumbs up. Servers always check on us , refill waters, ask fo more beers . How service should be! Overall I will be coming back ! Thank you underdogs for a good night !

This is my new "go-to" bar. It's a small and cozy, casual bar tucked away on Waiakamilo. It's easy to miss if you're not paying attention-it's on the Ewa side of Waiakamilo. PROS +Good service +Delicious drinks +Awesome food +Multiple dart boards +Multiple TVs +Pool table CONS -No draft beer (what kind if bar doesn't have a beer tap?!) -Parking lot is tiny Always a good time at Underdogs! Loud music, the customer service is always good and the crowd is super versatile but overall a good crowd. Their food is really tasty, but heavy on the salt and many times, they run out of certain dishes. They have a lot of delicious drinks, including one of their specialties-Soju! Yum! Overall, Underdogs is a fun little bar in Kalihi that's a good spot to have some good drinks and great food with friends/family!

Kind of out of the way unless you're coming straight from work or you happen to live in the area. Even though this place looks like a hole in the wall, it's quite spacious and the service is good. The food. Buffalo wings, blackened ahi, kalua nachos, kim chee fried rice, garlic steak. All of which turned out to exceed my expectations. I would suggest the kalua nachos are something that you must try. The Drinks. The drink menu needs to be redone. Its just a floppy old laminated piece of paper. Really didn't appeal to me, so I just ordered whisky. We also ordered the strawberry soju which turned out great. they know what they're doing. What's cool about this place is that you can sing karaoke which will appear on the screens around the bar. This is only after about 8 shots when you've built up the balls to sing in front of everyone at the bar who probably didn't care if you sang in the first place. Just man up and sing. If you're not up for that there's darts and a pool table. Overall a fun place to be with great food. Can't wait to go back for a drink after work soon.

Food was great, service was even better! Best of all it wasn't PACKED like their usual days. Of course the reason being is that my friend and I arrived just as they were opening for a late lunch and also to beat the crowd. We ordered the fried rice *YUM*, Mac&Cheese poppers *YUMMY* and the garlic dynamite chicken *OMG YUMMERS* and were served almost immediately. Omg right? We also had our all-time favorite drink the Midori with Sprite and thank GOD that it was perfect. Not too sweet, not too alcohol-y and definitely not watered down. Despite the fact that they were out of fish and we couldn't order the famous spicy ahi I still give them 5 stars for the excellent service. Definitely returning( most likely during their downtime to avoid the croud hehehe).

I love this hole in the wall sports bar! Don't let the location or its surroundings turn you away. The food items are awesome. I've tried the furikake chicken, dynamite chicken, sashimi, blackened ahi, tofu, pork chops and steak....all were very tasty! I recommend going early or making a reservations! The parking is limited and people reserve seats and you may not get one. Many people even do take out cause the food is awesomeness! They also serve different shoju varieties that I really enjoy too!

Small parking lot but next door parking opens after six. Nice place to hang, watch game and play darts. Large variety off food (large portion too) and karaoke later in the night. Make reservations bc a lot of the seating were rsvp. Unfortunately our rsvp was for 12 and they claimed it was six. They were able to fix the problem right away. Over all good experience that night ( helped that it was a game that UH football won).

It took me a long time to get my a$$ in here, but I finally made it. This place can be deceiving by it's location in Kalihi and looking where it's situated, but don't let the limited parking and looks fool you. Walking inside you have just say to yourself Wow! The bar is Clean,Spacious and inviting, it has a good feel to it and would have no problem accommodating larger groups. Like a scene from "Cheers" where everyone knows your name I knew I would run into long time friends coming here and sure enough I did, enjoying themselves and having a great time watching the sporting events on the many flat screen TV's situated around the bar. First words out of their mouths... What the hell where have you been!! The next word was "Shots"!! Yeah I miss them too..lol! Yes all those guys who frequent the bar top are the guilty ones. I did get to try some of the food that they offer... *Nachos: Not your regular cheese whiz covered nachos, I like that it was loaded with jalapenos.A freshly made salsa with this dish would have been great, but the salsa that came with it just made it an Ok dish. yelp.com/biz_photos/unde… *Chicken Gizzards: What can I say, either you love gizzards or you think it's disgusting. For me? Winner Winner Chicken Dinner! It was really good! yelp.com/biz_photos/unde… *Meat Pizza: I love love this pizza! Why? Oink Goodness! Pepperoni, Portuguese Sausage and Crispy Bacon on a thin cracker type crust, So good I'd order this again! yelp.com/biz_photos/unde… Underdogs has a quite a bit of food items to munch on and as other Yelpers have reviewed most of them are very good. As for me, I'll just slowly eat my way through the whole menu along with a cold one and a "Shot" of course! *Service is always friendly and attentive. *Limited Parking available in front and adjacent businesses after they close.

is kind of hidden & looks really tiny on the outside w/ a small parking lot, but once you get inside it's bigger & clean w/ several tables & stool tables, dart boards, & a pool table. went there for the first time & chose it based on the yelp reviews & just wanted a place w/ good food & drinks. we sat at the bar & the workers are really nice. we got their garlic fries, furikake chicken, & dynamite chicken & they were all really delicious!! a def must to eat those. we split it btwn 3 ppl & left w/ leftovers. outside looks a little sketchy & not that much parking space, but would go back to try more of their foods!

Little hole in the wall place! Came here with my boyfriend and a couple of friends. At first, we thought that they were closed since their windows/doors are very tinted; dont be fooled! Theyre open! Place is VERY dark; could barely see my friends sitting across the table from me xP Waiter/bartender was very nice. :) We ordered strawberry soju, dynamite chicken, some pork bacon thingies (ugh forgot the name). everything was really good! I especially LOVED the soju ^__^ Was justttttt right. We didn't have as much time to hang out but we'll definitely be coming back to try other stuff (and other flavors of soju) soon. The only real downer is that the parking here sucks :( We actually tried coming back a second time but it was so busy that there was no parking!

Love this place but hoping my 5 stars don't attract more attn to this place cuz it's really lowkey, localz only! Awesome comfort food, gotta gotta get the dynamite chix and bone in pork chops! Everything else on the menu is cherry also: pork tater tots, ahi sashimi, just. everything. The girls are so awesome, service is fast and courteous. Don't get discouraged by the dark hidden location, the waitresses are super friendly! Parking kinda sucks- fair warning. And the area around looks sketchy, so far, no trouble. Although I do live in Kalihi-- used to this location. DRINKS: THE UNDERDOG, and CHUMCHURUM KOREAN SOJU A++++ Southern punch! Melona! The barking Mai tai! Yummmyyyy hits the spot! And the lava flow! Darts! Pool! Very clean! All entertainment works just fine! Karaoke! Nothing ghetto about this place! But don't spread the word, thanks....

A hidden gem. Service staff/bartender Lance are very polite and quick. Food was good. Try the dynamite chicken, steak/chops and the yakisoba that comes with tonkastu on top! Place gets bizy around 8 pm on weekends.

I have been to Underdogs a couple times now and I realized I never gave it a review. Their food menu is pretty good...their truffle mac n cheese balls in marinara sauce is one of my favorite things on the menu (eat them while they're still hot). Their drinks are great and the servers are also on top of their customers; I never had to go to the bar to order a drink and the place was packed. The vibe in this place was definitely high and infectious...definitely a good time here. We were celebrating Doug C.'s birthday and we all had a great time. Be warned though, the parking is pretty limited but you can probably find a spot on the street around the block. They also have 4 electronic dartboards and a pool table so come prepared with your A game.

  • Summer B.

Negative Star!!! Never going back to this place. They have a dish with tater tots, smoked meat and eggs. All we wanted was the tater tots and we would still pay the regular price for the dish and they wouldn't do it! We even offered to pay double which would be $22 for tater tots and our server said the kitchen said no they can't do it. Crazy ridiculous!! So if you're looking for a sports bar where you can order your food exactly how you want it. You are better off going somewhere else. Back to Home Bar for us!!!!

Great bar located in Kalihi. Pretty chill place but it can get crowded on weekends and when there's a fight showing. The food is pretty good for bar standards. The dynamite chicken is delicious. Ask for extra sauce on the side! When I go, I sit at the bar. The bartenders are very attentive and friendly.

Great place to grab a drink and chill! Their soju are sooo yummy! My favorite is melon flavor. The place was packed so it was hard to grab a table. Me and my girls ordered steak, poke, chicken, fries, teriyaki soybeans and quesadillas. All of them was delicious!!! No complaints about this place at all :) highly recommended

I live in Kalihi and I don't always think there are worthwhile bars to go to that don't really creep me out, but Underdogs is a winner! Parking: They have a VERY SMALL lot, but when the business next door closes for the day, you can park in their lot too. Their lot is a bit tight, and when it's crowded, it's not unheard of to have other people double park your car. Otherwise, you're left w/ street parking around the corner is your best bet. Atmosphere: It's mostly black, grey & chrome decor, but it's perfect for the space. It gives off the vibe that Home Bar & Grill has, but a little newer and less worn down. There are dart boards/machines, a pool table, and you can pay to sing karaoke (though I sometimes think it would be better w/o the karaoke). Note: Women's bathroom is essentially one big room/stall. So only one person can use it at a time. Drinks: Happy Hour is 2p-7p, and it's $1 off all their drinks! Yay! They have a full bar, beer, wine, hard alcohols, specialty cocktails, specialty shots, and soju carafes. PAMCAKE SHOT!! It's a shot of butterscotch schnapps & Jameson w/ an orange juice chaser. It tastes deliciously like pancakes/syrup and you really don't even need the chaser, but it's fun to drink because it just adds to the whole "breakfast" idea. Their other specialty shots aren't bad, but they're a bit too sweet for my liking. I like the Strawberry and Lychee flavored soju best, but really, I don't think any soju really tastes bad, to be honest. Food: I've tried a bunch of their food so far, but these are the ones I'd order again: Pork & Tots - comes w/ an egg, caramelized onions; kind of greasy, but addictive Kimchee Fried Rice - Not overly spicy, also comes w/ an egg Nachoes - the chips stayed pretty crispy throughout since it wasn't OVER drenched in cheese & stuff Yakisoba noodles - you wouldn't guess that it comes w/ a small bit of tonkatsu on the top! Yummeh! Service: The waitresses are all really nice. Sadly, service can be a little slow, but it's understandable since the place does get packed sometimes. Don't get mad at them just cause they have to serve like 10 other tables at the same time. Conclusion: I've been back a number of times already! It's such a chill place and most of the people are friendly. Lost star because of the parking issues I've had.

Awesome food awesome drinks, but lady in the back has some eye problems, last lady we encountered and she kept rolling her eyes at us when we just tried to pay for our tab.(old Asian lady with glasses, I think her name was Reyna). How rude. Not a recommended place if you care for customer service.

Underdogs is one of my favorites!!! We found them on yelp for "late night food", and became instant fans because of the flavors of their food. From the outside it looks a little seedy, but inside is brights and looks very clean. The Dynamite Chicken is a must, but we're still going through the rest of the menu. So far everything I've tried has been delicious, their version of the yakisoba noodles had too much garlic even for me, and slightly too salty, but it may have been one bad dish that I'm willing to try again. As a chef myself, I know that a little over seasoning can, and will, happen every once in a great while... Try underdogs as soon as possible, then you all will be enjoying this hidden local spot more often, and sooner than later...

When you have children, things change... and people who say this is wrong, well they either don't have children, or they have a full-time live in nanny. And I despise them with a jealous vengeance likened to that of a hurricane. Okay, so maybe I'm over exaggerating but you get my point. +No longer do you go out til 2 am because you have to get up at 6 am and that's really non-negotiable. Kids gotta eat and will jump on you until you throw cereal at their heads. +Your bed time slowly inches towards 10 pm, and for me, sometimes 9 pm. Although you'd like to watch that new movie at home, you must contemplate whether or not it's worth it to stay up late past 11 pm. Sorry Bruce Willis, today is not a good day to die hard. So when we decided to head to Underdogs for a date night with our other parental friends, I'm not going to lie, I was a little worried. People raise eyebrows when you bring children to a bar. Shame on you judgy judgersons! But I remembered that Russ M once told me it would be fine at Underdogs, and what do you know, he was right! It was a Sunday night at 6 pm and from the outside, Underdogs looks very scary and is definitely not a place you're going to find your next great meal! But inside it's your standard local sports den, but it's still somewhat new so it's decently clean. I had my two year old in tow and my friend had her 1 year old, so it was nice to find a bar which didn't wreak of old cigarette smoke and beer. What you come to Underdogs for are the following: +Darts, pool & karaoke ($1 a song) +$1 off all drinks during happy hour +$13 for a shoju carafe (Strawberry was my favorite, but you also have the option of mango and lychee) +Pork chops w/ mushrooms & onions (Thank you Esteban, this was AMAZING!) +Mac and cheese truffle balls (I didn't really taste the truffle oil, but I love anything mac n' cheese. Just understand it's not real cheese.) +Furikake chicken (Very tasty and done just right) We played pool and sang karaoke during our visit from 6-8 pm, and our children loved it! Thankfully the bar wasn't very full so my daughter's sporadic temper tantrums didn't interfere with the good times of fellow patrons. So my fellow parentals, the lesson here is that life does not have to end after conception. Tt just takes a little more time, planning and imagination to get what you want. Next playdate will be at Underdogs and you are all invited!!!

I always root for the underdogs and this place deserves a big holler! The first time I came here, I was puzzled by the lack of decor inside and out but I just rolled with it. The interior is nothing special but rather an area where you can relax, play darts/pool, have some bar food with friends and even make some new ones. I would probably discourage coming here if you're trying to impress someone as it's more of a local favorite. I can't say much about the food but had no problems while sitting at the bar with my friends. Hopefully I'll be able to return and sample some of their dishes. Go underdogs!

5 star food..... but other things need some fixin THIS WAS GREAT: - fries - pork and tots!!! - kim chee fried rice - nihon steak - pesto pizza - fried calamari - mac and cheese balls - dynamite chicken - mixed greens salad with wasabi miso dressing - garlic steak - fruity soju's of many flavors they've also got cheap karaoke ($1 per song, public drunken singing only, no private rooms), and some really good singers (but also some really bad ones.... "i'm lookin at you, guy who was singing 'what a man' by Salt n Peppa"). THIS WAS SO-SO: soda comes with ONE (1) free refill.... i always felt that this was kind of bogus to not give free refills on soda b/c, as a bar, why would you not cater to the DD?? and soda syrup and water is dirt cheap, especially when you factor in the inflated costs of alcohol.... the bar makes bank on booze alone, so why not give free re-fills on soda? seriously.... wtf.... THIS WAS JUNK!: - parking is pretty terrible - but they do allow double parking, as well as additional parking in the mattress/dent doctor's area (if you don't mind walking a bit). there is also very limited street parking around. - 1 pool table, and 4 dart boards: the older model dart board closest to the door is broken, and kept not registering our darts!!! also, the pool table is way, way, way too close to the wall. they have a jump stick on the side, i'm assuming to remedy this problem, but really..... if you're a pool player, this is terrible. they need to move the table at least 1 1/2 feet way from the wall in order for it to be decent. otherwise, why even have a table?! you can't properly play on it! :( i'll def be back for food.... but most likely on a weeknight (parking yo), and no pool playin :(

I heard about the food through friends that have frequented this place so I had to try!! Oh my.....I love it!! The "bar" food is above the norm and they had great daily specials!! I wish I took pictures of the food to share with you helpers cause I love that you share/post yours so hopefully I will remember on my next visit. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the establishment was clean! This is a must for me to come back! We had a birthday celebration of 8 people and were able to try an array of dishes and oh, I didn't get the chance to mention their pizza!! Winner!!! I will definitely coordinate another gathering to try the rest of the menu!!

Relaxed bar with decent parking and ample seating. The mac n cheese balls were pretty good. The pork and tots were tasty, salty, and greasy. Serving size was really big. I didn't try the drinks but it looked like there were interesting choices. I would return.

I have been here on prior occasions and have not ever had any complaints until tonight. Walked in around 8pm for a late dinner with my sister & her boyfriend who were here on vacay. Maybe little packed, but not too busy. Stood around the entrance for 2 different waitresses to basically stare at us for a little bit and have them practically ignore us. Until maybe about 5 minutes into it, I decided to walk up to the bar to see if all the tables were reserved and if they could fit a party of 3. She was nice and just told us that she would have someone helps us momentarily. Which was fine... About 5 minutes later someone did approach us and showed us where we could sit. Ordered our food and drinks (which was awesome btw). But our waitress was rude as hell. Simply asked for a fork (yes only Asian that doesn't use chopsticks) got a shrug smile, she went back to the kitchen and just basically grabbed a fork and dropped it on our table. I was a lil stunned but I figured "ehh" bad night (or something). Then she came to refill our drinks, I said "thank you" politely and she rolled her eyes at me. wtf?? A second waitress assisted us, whom was pleasant and polite. Hence the 2 stars, for the second waitress and the fact the food was awesome. If you're a type of person that values decent service, I would honestly ditch this place. I seriously over hyped the place to my sister and her bf. Kalihi being my hometown, I definitely might consider taking the extra drive out my normal spots (sidestreet & home bar).

This bar really is the Home Bar of Kalihi! I was so excited to try this place out when I heard that the food at this new Kalihi bar was being compared to Home Bar. We all know how awesome Home Bar's food is, and this place is comparable if not exceeding delicious! Standouts: 1. PORK AND TOTS - $9 - yelp.com/biz_photos/unde… As delicious as Home Bar's tater tot nachos, but this place kicks it up a notch! Tater tots mixed with sweet sauteed onions, eggs (scrambled/sunny side up), and smoked pork with garlic soy sauce that brings so much more flavor to this dish than normal tater tot nachos! 2. MELONA COCKTAIL - $6.50 One of the best drinks I've ever had! The melona flavor completely masks all alcohol taste, yet there's definitely something in there that's "effective" as my face was getting warm after a couple...Tastes just like a melted melona bar! 3. DYNAMITE CHICKEN - $8 Pieces of fried chicken tossed in ponzu, topped with mayo, dynamite sauce, bonito flakes, furikake, and green onions. For $8 one order came with a TON! Delicious chicken for a delicious value! All the other food we tried was pretty darn good too. Truffle mac and cheese poppers, kalua pork quesadillas, buffalo chicken, fries...you can't really go wrong with anything you order here! (so far I think, haha) Truffle poppers - yelp.com/biz_photos/unde… Shoutout to our waitress, Pamela, who was awesomeee! She made us feel comfortable yet still making sure to check on us from time to time, and not so much where it gets annoying. They have karaoke later at night, but it's restaurant style where it's a couple mic's for a single screen for the whole bar. EVERYONE can hear the singers, hahaha. Quite entertaining when the middle aged men who frequent here get drunk and start singing love ballads! Dart boards and a pool table available too!

I can't believe I waited so long to try this place. I knew about it for over a year but because I kept hesitating to go. I finally went for a friend's going away event, and I can say I am totally digging this joint (...people still say that right?). First off, parking here opens up after 630pm. Before then it is just the little lot in front of the bar, but after it includes the spaces in the adjacent couple of lots. When you go inside, you probably will not be impressed. There's several dart boards, a couple stand along tables, and a few lounge tables. You order the drinks, which are decent and reasonably priced. Then you MUST order food because this would be the reason I come to this bar. Not for the drinks, not for the games, maybe for the company, but the food is a winner for sure and definitely a cut above your average bar food. My favorite has got to be the smoked meat tots. The tots are nice and crispy and the salty smokey meat just goes so well with it. I can probably eat a plateful by myself. After that I would go with the blackened ahi and the fried chicken. I can't believe I waited so long to try this place, but I am just happy that I got to try it before leaving hawaii. I'll definitely need to come back when I get back to oahu.

This is my go to spot!!!! Pau Hana or lookin for a place to grab a late night bite. The drinks are delicious. My personal favorite is the underdog drink. She's sweet and goes well with their food. Other than that their drink prices are pretty good for when it's not happy hour. Their soju is really good too. But what really keeps me coming back is the AWESOME FOOD! The dynamite chicken is a MUST HAVE! If they have the oyster shooters for their specials I usually grab that too. My favorites would be the chicken most definitely, as well as, the yakisoba, poppers, and the sizzling steak! As for the environment its a nice casual spot to go and hang out with some friends and have a good time. The service here is excellent, the girls are really attentive. If you come here on the weekends be sure to come a little early and try to carpool, cause parking is limited. But yes a great pau Hana spot for you and your friends

I've quickly become a fan of Underdogs! We always have a great time at Underdogs. The food is good, the service is great, and there is always a healthy crowd of people who are just out for a good time. On our most recent visit we went in to watch the UH game; though the game was a disappointment, our experience wasn't! We ordered a ton of food: the meat lovers pizza, the slim pizza, pork chops, fried truffle mac&cheese balls, fried, edamame, and ahi poke. The pizza is a must-try! The crust is crispy and thin, with just the right amount of cheese and sauce. I really like the meat lovers pizza because the salty meat goes great with a cold beer, but the slim pizza has a truffle oil drizzle...and I'm a sucker for anything truffle. For a sports bar they have a great selection of drinks. The bar is fully stocked with premium liquors, the beer is perfectly chilled, and they recently added soju to the mix! Their mixes aren't quite as good as Duck Butt but the strawberry or Underdog special soju is another one of my faves!

This is a great place to gather with friends or co-workers after a hard week at work. The service is great and the food is delicious! This time we ordered the Mac and Cheese Truffles and the BBQ Chicken Wings. Others in my group got the nachos, Pork & Tots, and chow mein. I've gotten their pizza on a different occasion and it was great. One of the small downsides is the small parking lot out front. I'd suggest car pooling in case you have to park on the next street over and you have to walk to your car later in the evening. I've never encountered problems finding parking on the street. I look forward to the next time my friends and I plan an outing to Underdogs!

So after binge watching Anime or Netflix with my boys we often forget to eat until our tummies growl so loudly we can't read the subtitles over the noise. Well having a place like Underdog's nearby is great because their food is delicious & they're open late enough for us to come crawling in at 10:30 starving our brains out! The boys always get the kim chee fried rice and nihon steak and I like to order the pork chops and a drink. No judging! The food is what we like to call "fancy" bar food which means it's not exactly going to be diet friendly and you shouldn't expect it to be gourmet. But it is served piping hot, perfectly seasoned, and tastes great! The service has been pretty good, but because we're usually here on a weeknight it's been pretty empty when we've been here. Parking is usually also no problem b/c of the late time that we go. The bathrooms are nice and clean but there's only 1 stall in the ladies so expect to wait!

I actually hate writing a review for a place like this or the word will really get out and you'll take away my chances for rock-star parking. I was in the mood for a casual Friday night out with good food and drinks that won't break the bank. I had heard rumblings from my usual Elite pals about how good this Kalihi find was, so here was the perfect chance to check it out. First of all, it's really not as sketchy an area as others make it seem. (Or maybe I am used to the trudging through dark allies to seek out great service and food.) Parking is easy and out front because most of the other businesses in the area are closed. The food! We tried the pork and tots and this is up there with Home bars tater tot nachos. Different, but equal mouthgasm. Smoked pork and onions with tater tots & TWO over easy eggs on top. This is not a place where you come if you're watching your salt or fat status. Sorry... real foodies only. We also had the furikake garlic chicken which was deliciously crispy with a sweet garlic sauce which we learned from aunty at the bar that the chef makes all his own sauces. Aunty then proceeded to describe nearly every dish on the menu and how the are all SOOOOO good. Tanks 'eh aunty. Must eat here plenty. It's clean. (yes, a CLEAN sports bar that doesn't smell like stale cigarrettes or sweaty balls.) There's a bathroom that doesn't have holes in the walls, and a pool table and darts. I'm so back there again. Please don't follow me there...I like it mellow.

This place gets points for - Having their own parking lot. Yay for not having to be scared of my car being towed! - Original shot and mixed drink concoctions. They have a variety of mixed drinks you can get. Your girlfriend or inner girlie-drink fairy will be happy here. - Having darts. A must at a bar. - Spacious interior - Clean bathroom - Tasty bar food (the tatertos, pork chops, kimchee fried rice are great but skip the nachos). This place gets no points for - Being kind of pricey... The drinks (although interesting) are pretty expensive if you're not getting just a beer. The soju carafe isn't worth it to me because they put SO MUCH ICE into it. It's cubed ice too, so the amount of mixed drink you're getting is probably 1/4 of the carafe without all the ice. I'd stick to beer or a regular mixed drink. - Their happy hour doesn't offer a great deal. And they don't have specials on most nights. - Service is hit or miss. They're attentive, then not. Then attentive, then not. Friendly, then not so much. They also don't know the menu too well. When I've asked on their prices for shots, domestics, specials, etc they had to go and check and came back 5 minutes later. Overall, it's a chill spot. Away from the city and in a quiet area, it's a choice to go to when you want to just chill at a bar. It's been getting really crowded though, so avoid peak times like weekends if you want less of a crowd. But other than that, good bar food + good drinks = a nice time here.

Food was great, alcohol to drink ratio generous, service started great but went downhill fast. Started with a punch mixed drink, followed by an old fashioned, followed by a guinness. Asked server number one for some water and never got it, asked server two for water and same result. Three pitchers of shochu mixed drinks and five food orders later still no water. Last of the pitchers finished, server number three brings our tab, refills the dd/wifes water and friends water but brought me nothing. Good thing I have a bottle of water in the car. Servers take note good service from start to finish usually equals larger tips, especially when alcohol is involved. Will try here again hoping for a better result next time.

A great place to have a get together or reunion with friends. Has a pool table, darts and karaoke. Very accomodating with reserving tables in advance if needed, depending on availability. Menu has a variety of foods that I enjoy, and not only serve fried foods like some bars. Happy Hours runs until 7pm, which basically means a dollar off most alcohoic drinks, and discounts on soju flavored pitchers. Wished Happy Hour included food items - maybe one day they'll offer it. And best of all the staff are almost always friendly.

Celebrated a friend's birthday last night at underdogs and I was impressed. It was clean inside and a lot of tvs along the walls. I tried their truffle mac and cheese balls, pork n tots, blackend ahi and kimchee fried rice. Loved it all except the pork n tots were a little to salty for me and I kept thinking about the tater tots at home bar. I just has a baby and so I can't rate how good their drinks are but one of the waitress didn't look to happy to be there and seemed like she didn't want to help us. That's why I gave it 3 stars and not 4. I'll probably come back again just to compare the service and try their drinks

Do NOT, repeat do NOT judge this place by its cover! Okay yes...the parking here is horrendous, but the friendly staff and delicious food make up for it. So far I've been here twice, and this is probably my new bar, happy hour, girls night place to be. What to order... Mac and cheese truffle balls (note, anything with truffle is amazing) and the best part it's not oily when you're biting into it. Pesto pizza is loaded, and I mean loaded with chicken. Thin crust, like paper thin but every bite is packing all the goodness a pizza should have. Fried rice, you can't go wrong with any fried rice, but the portion is huge! Furikake chicken is great! Not overly sauced and bite sized with no bones! And the steak....ohh the steak with onions. You get the picture. Happy hour they have cocktail soju for 12 so have your night start early, with a pitcher...or five. This place is legit. Delicious, fairly priced and if you're splitting with people it's cheap! Ohh and darts, billiards and tv provided for your entertainment pleasure.

First impression. This is a bar looks sketchy as hell but once I walked in. I was like where the hell am I. Place is a diamond in the rough!! Inside is clean spacious and inviting. The vibes good and good spacing so it's not a sardine can. Food: excellent everything was tasty and hot! We orderd a lot of stuff and everyone picked. Garlic fries and pork chops is excellent!! Pizza is awesome. It's crunchy hot and fresh. Beers and cold and fresh. Shots are full shots not plastic tiny shots. Con: I guess parking. but on a weekday this place is a perfect for a drink to kill time and let traffic die. Service: very good service always attentive and polite. Smiling asking for more beer and food. Can't ask for more. Will comeback and recommend to everyone.

Came here with a couple friends after work. I made reservations and the gentlemen that answered the phone was friendly. I have to agree with another reviewer's comments about the waitresses, which is why I give the place 4-stars. A waitress sat us down and then came back a few minutes later to see if we were ready to order, only to see we had no menus. She came back with ONE menu. Come on, give us at least two for the different sides of the table. Then it was 10 minutes, maybe even 15, before a waitress finally came to take our order. I don't know if their service just sucked because we weren't drinking or if they're just not good. They were nice though...just slow/not attentive. So the food...it was delicious! We had the Furikake Garlic Chicken, Kalua Pig Nachos (seasoned waffle cut fries instead of nacho chips), Cold Tofu, and Nihon Steak served on a bed of french fries. We liked them all! I wanted to try other dishes, but I ate too much. I think I like their food better than Side Street!!! We're looking forward to coming back or doing take-out orders. The only other junk thing besides the waitresses is parking isn't that great. People would double park in the tiny lot and then blocked people would just let the waitresses know who would then announce that a car had to move. You could also park in another lot (I think) after 6.

F*ck yeah! Awesome bar food, drinks, AND staff. I'm totally down for that! Of course with my luck I find this place three days before I leave Hawaii. Wa waaaaaaaa!!! So everyone...please enjoy this place and I will live vicariously through your good times. Located: On Waikamilo St. near the corner of Colburn. If you are familiar with the area in a visual sense like I am, it's behind that warehouse on the corner of Colburn + Waikamilo that has that huge sign that says "X (amount of) shirts for $20". Plain and Simple: Parking might be a pain; go early. Underdog Signature Shots are delicious and taste exactly like their name. Food is cheap, portions are a good size, and delicious. Service is awesome and down to earth. Don't judge a book by its cover** Later in the night people double park, so just be patient and let the staff know. Breakdown: I met my Go2plus1 and her friend at Underdogs around 6ish. When I arrived there was ample parking in front. They informed us that you could park in any one of the 3 lots in front since the other establishments were closed. The girls were already 3 shots in, and 3 dishes in. (I'm sure I mention before my friends and I don't waste time) As soon as I sat down, I grabbed a fork and ordered a Breakfast Pamcake. A sweet shot that tasted like maple syrup with the feel-goodness of pancakes; accompanied by a OJ back. I got to try their Truffle Mac & Cheese Poppers; which were pretty good. Golf ball size-ish. Roll that sucker into their home made marinara sauce, top of with a jalapeno slice. Mmmmm. I also got to indulge in their Dynamite Chicken; truly one of my favorites. If I was a true foodie I would be able to tell you why, "the chili aioli blends well with blah blah blah..." but I'm not that kind of gal. All I know it's delicious. It's $8 bucks. You won't be disappointed. I was shocked to see Cold Tofu on the table, because frankly, who gets tofu and shoyu at the bar. I know I don't. *took a piece* HOLY SHEET! Even the tofu was good. Their shoyu mix was soooooo good! I could care less that there was fricken bonito flakes. Just give me the tofu!!! *nom nom nom* After my Pamcake, we got a round of Rootbeer floats. Then a round of Pink Cadillacs. Then Mojos. Chocolate Covered Strawberry; which taste like real strawberries, seeds included. Suggested by our lovely server Pam! We got the chance to try a Raisin cookie (which had a cinnamon kick) & snowball shots (uh...yes it's named after THAT snowball, but this version you'd prefer in your mouth) Because I arrived late, most of the food was gone, and I was still hungry. So I got the Pork and Tots. Sunny-side up egg. Which is not my thing. The smoke pork however, yummy! I suggest you eat it while it's hot. Once its gone cold, it's not so good. (then again, I ate cold tots with the smoke pork cause I couldn't let the pork go to waste) Needless to say, the girls and I went through all of the Underdog Signature Shots + a handful of Pam's Shot-Suggestions and it was a great Wednesday night! Yes, we were still sitting upright in our bar chairs. Yes we got home safely. Hell yes we'd go back (and we did!) **I mention this because I invited some friends for a going away party later on that week. They all said two things: "Tammy, why the hell are you taking us to this ghetto place in Kalihi?" followed by..."Holy shit, this place is SO not what I expected, it's super chill/nice....I would totally come back"
