The food is awesome! The wait time is inconsistent. You may see one table and wait an hour for food. Next time four tables and out in 30. Pickup for the same item 20 mins - next time 40 mins and the same amount of tables. They are never the same...this time it comes with rice. Next time you were supposed to order rice for an additional charge. The service is awful. Rude. Not friendly. Would have been a five star for taste. The rest tainted it each time I went and since I live close by...it was often because there is nothing else in walking distance.

Fast service, relaxed quiet atmosphere and delicious food. I had the red curry, white guy hot, and it was just enough heat to notice and still taste the flavor. Also got the jasmine rice and sticky rice which I dipped in the peanut sauce - a must! Over all, pleasantly surprised :)

Awesome food! We went at 1pm on a Monday and it was open, despite the time posted on yelp which says open at 4. Prompt, friendly service and delicious food!

Heres my story.... Placed an order to go around 6pm and they said about 30mins....no prob. Called to check to see if the order is ready 30 mins later and there is no answer on the phone. No big deal, they are a small operation so I just went down there. They were busy when I got there and so I waited at the door. A boy asked me if I was a take out order and I said yes....he motioned to the front. I went to the front and the young girl said my order was ready and it was 60.00. I get out my money to pay and she says everything is ready except the sticky rice. I had a puzzled look on my face and so she explained. 'We used the rice for the customers in the restaurant so it will be another 15-20 minutes'. She asked if I still wanted the rice(.....if I didnt want the two orders of sticky rice, I wouldnt have ordered it). So she asked me what I wanted to do.....wait for the rice ( twenty minutes..) and take home cold food or leave without what I ordered. At this point I was pretty upset. I told them I needed to make a call and I went outside. I called my wife and explained the situation and she said that there was no point getting mad at someone if they didnt know what they did.....fair enough. I went back inside and explained the situation. I ordered food....now 40 minutes ago and not only was my order not complete, but you gave my rice away! I explained to the girl that I was not mad at her, but I needed her to talk to someone about what happened. The ladies/owners behind her were cooking and when she told them, the girl just told me she said 'they got busy'. That was the answer. I again explained that it wasnt right to give my food away and that I was there to ask them to help find a solution and all I got from the girl was 'I am sorry, I dont know what to tell you. Do you want to wait for the rice?' I explained that I was probably not their biggest or best customer, but we enjoy eating at the restaurant and that I needed some help so a decision can be made about the food...and I just got the same response. After a few more rounds of the girl not being able to help me and the cooks/owners ignoring me, there was nothing else I could do. They gave away part of my order and just expected me to either wait and have cold food or just pay and leave without giving me what I ordered. So I left. The girl asked me as I was leaving if I wanted my food and I said no. I am not a fan of any establishment that treats their customers poorly, and then once the situation is explained, its not right to make a young girl deal with the problem, and dont help the customer with a solution to keep the customer coming back....keep in mind I have probably eaten here ten times with my family. I was there to give them money for my order. They didnt deliver and just expected me to go along like nothing was wrong. You dont treat people like that and expect things to be fine. Paying for the food would be condoning the behavior and saying to them.....hey, treat me however you want, you are not important. I dont treat people that way and I dont appreciate being treated that way.

Thai Valley Cuisine Thai restaurant is the lone active tenant of the derelict Kalama Valley Shopping Center. It was interesting to come here and see that this restaurant was the only thing open when everything else in the Kalama shopping village was empty and in transition. After looking over this quaint shopping vista, I thought I would have lunch here before hitting the Botanical Gardens for a quick check in before heading back to Sandy Beach to spend the rest of my 4th of July holiday watching the waves roll in. Thought that was a nice way to spend the holiday, don't you think? The Thai Village Thai restaurant is located at the aforementioned Kalama Shopping village on Kealahou Street in Kalama Valley (Hawaii Kai) near the Golf Course and the Koko Crater Botanical Gardens. It was interesting to see that this restaurant was open on a holiday, so that was good for me. There is a a lot of parking here, so that's not even an issue. When you have one restaurant supporting an entire shopping center, that's a crazy concept. If you are like me, TheBus route #23 passes by this derelict shopping center. The restaurant layout is small and comfortable, almost like siting in a Vietnamese restaurant. Homely, yet simple and inviting. After reading the menu that was plastered on the window outside the restaurant and reading the Yelp reviews, there was a vast spectrum of opinions that seemed unjustified for the one and two stars, so I just wanted to experience this place myself and make my own experience count. There wasn't many tables, as you would expect. There was a couple of tables filled that time I came, so there was ample room for me to dine. The owner came, as I entered the restaurant and greeted me. I was given the menu right away and it was turning into a pleasant experience so far. The tell tell sign of what made Thai places shine would be their curries and their pad Thai, no question. So with that said, I ordered the pad Thai with Lao hot spicy, along with green curry and side order of sticky rice. Seeing Kalama Valley shopping center, or the lack thereof made me hungry. I wasn't sure whether or not they had air condition at the time I was here, since it was not really cold or warm. Just perfect, although cooler would've been better. Just saying. I remembered the Yelp review of this restaurant as I was waiting for my order, about a Thai woman who seeks out the best Thai restaurants. Let just say that Thai Valley Cuisine is not mind blowing, but the taste was surprisingly very good and heartwarming. The curry itself was creamy and not watery as some other Thai curries I have had before. Warm and delicious, it had the consistency of soul food written all over it. It went well over the order of sticky rice and that the pad Thai was very flavorful while balancing itself out with the spiciness required to taste. While not great, it was very delicious and was quite appetitizing and affordable. Prices here are atypical of any Thai restaurant you would find in Honolulu. Curries are normally $10 and the entrees range from $10-$20 each. Overall, I would recommend this place just to try. What have you got to loose? I'm sold on this place and hope to come back soon, when the opportunity arises. Hopefully, the Kalama Valley Shopping Center would be more bustling with economic activity, rather than an eyesore on the Kalama Valley community when that happens. Oh well. Support local! B+

Easily the best Thai food in the state. I can't believe it took us ten years to find this gem, but will definitely be coming regularly. Carol is a fantastic chef/cook and is a wonderful host. Start with the green papaya salad, and save a little to mix in with any of the great noodle dishes!

I decided to call in a take out order on 12/16/14 around 8:30PM. They let me know that I was able to come right away because they were already making it. Food was done by the time I got there. However, the food wasn't hot and it felt like the spring rolls were previously made and fried again to heat it. Lastly, I was surprised that the lady working was not friendly even though we were the only ones there.

We did carry out so keep that in mind. Our order consisted of spring rolls (not so great), pad thai chicken (decent), crispy fish with chili sauce (good but not crispy), basil shrimp (good), street noodles (good), stir fry egg plant (over cooked) and fried rice (hard to screw that up). I'll give them the benefit of the doubt (with 3-stars) that it would be better as dine in but we only stay 2 blocks away. Would try again but won't go out of my way.

Service is still good, but the new cook is not! We ordered dinner (mind you we was the only ones here), we got in this order 1 main course 2 main course Pause 3 rice 4 cold appetizers 5 hot appetizers Food was similar to before but smaller portions and no taste or sour taste Dessert was also not good $75 for 2 adults, 1 child Not coming back (By comparison to spicy house, 6 hungry adults for lunch, walked out stuffed $58)

Warm and friendly staff and a really clean nice interior. The ginger coconut soup was divine and the spring rolls are crispy and delicious. The prices are very reasonable compared to other Thai restaurants in Hawaii Kai and we enjoyed the atmosphere and food much more. Very family friendly.

While the food was decent, I have to give this place awful service rating. Initially, the owner refused to honor a coupon because it was on a smart phone instead of printed. They hardly spoke English so communication was difficult.

I used to come here years ago, but haven't been for quite some time. Finally decided to head back. At first we were nervous that the food was going to take forever; there seemed to only be one waitress and she was setting up for two large parties that were about to come in. With that said, the service was prompt enough. As BYOB, we brought wine but since the waitress was so busy, we just poured the wine into our water glasses. No biggie, and we got our water eventually. Ordered the spring roles for an app which were good -- without a doubt the best thing. The mint and the sauce and cucumber melded together nicely. A solid app. The curries were less than stellar. I love Thai curries and order them a lot; I was pretty surprised with the quality. The yellow chicken curry was heavy on the chicken bouillon flavor and really not spicy at all. The green beef curry was also not spicy, and WAY too salty. Almost inedible salty, even with lots of rice. I'm sad to say that I probably won't be returning, even though I used to love coming here! I don't know of the food quality went down (probably not) or I just started eating a lot more Thai food (definitely yes), but I would make the trek into town or at least Maile's Thai bistro in the HK Costco shopping center. That's pricey, but the food is better. If headed into town hit up to To Thai For in Kaimuki -- so far, they're my fav!

I ate here last night and have to say it was soso. Nothing was horrible about it but nothing was great or stands out either. The biggest positive is that it is the only dining experience to be had in Kalama Valley. I order the Pad Kee Mao, a stable of mine, and the summer roll. The pad kee mao came out before my summer roll and immediately I knew something was off. The noodles were completely white unlike the normal darken sauce found at other Thai restaurants. This was later discovered to be the reason for a lack of flavor. The summer roll was good and the sauce provided was decent as well except for the fact it was consumed after my mao came out. The server was kind and nice and have no complaints there. It is BYOB but there is no where in walking distance to buy alcohol so just remember before hand. They closed twenty minutes earlier than they were suppose to so arrive before the LAST MINUTE. All in all, it was ok but will not be going back

If you're out for an afternoon/evening hiking around the Koko Crater Botanical Gardens, exit the gardens and hang a left onto Kealahou Street and on your right will be Thai Valley Cuisine. This is the BEST Thai food I've ever had. The owner/chef, Carol, couldn't be more friendly, talking to us about her homemade yellow curry pastes and how they are incredibly healthy (which is true) and some of her famous customers and visitors (big names like President Jimmy Carter, and mayor of Honolulu, Peter Carlisle. We ordered an assorment of dishes, including the Spring Rolls, the Cashew Chicken Stir Fry, Yellow Curry Chicken, Jasmine Rice, and Shrimp with Pineapple Salsa. It was all delicious- fresh, healthy and filling. The service (which is handled by these two little women) is incredible, they're always there to give you refills on water and to make sure all your needs are met. The prices are wonderful. She even sent us home with some yellow curry paste for us to make curry at home. All in all, this is a must visit if you are in the area and you are tired from golfing, hiking, or spending a day at the beach.

Went here a couple times previous and would have given it 1 or 2 stars. We went again last week and they're all around improved. We're pretty picky about our Thai food and come from the mainland, where I would have given it 3 stars. But really good Thai food is hard to come by in Hawaii, so we're giving it 4. Service was very friendly and helpful. Portions were larger then previous times we went as well as very tasty! We've been to Maile Thai (hawaii kai shopping center) several times as well, and I'd say the food is definitely comparable now and portions are more generous. Loved the banana mochi rice with coconut milk for dessert. YUM.

The food here is amazing. She makes her curry paste from scratch and it has amazing flavor!! We always order the Pad Thai, grilled fish with thai chili basil sauce, Beef larb and the yellow chicken curry. I love the flavor of thai food but can't take the heat. She makes everything to order so she makes my food mild. My husband on the other hand loves HOT HOT HOT and she makes his food perfect for him. My only complaint since I eat healthy most of the time is that the sodium in this food is probably higher than I would like it to be. I am always downing water when I eat here. If you are in search of a great and authentic thai food restaurant I would suggest you give them a try. The food is delish!!

Disappointed. Was a regular until they told us the fridge broke, so the milk was bad (not that we got any in our thai iced tea when we waited for it anyways) :/ didnt have the amazing sticky rice (mind you it was 20mins past opening and we were the only ppl there) and to top it off the shrimp in my curry were rotten. All in all I'm not interested in Thai valley or any of it now. Yuck.

Thanks, Love, but I will venture 1-star. This is about the worst Thai/Lao food I have had -- without flavor, without character, without soul. I agree the "street noodles" Phad Siu were really bad, the Thai satay tasted as if they had poured peanut sauce over strands of chicken, and the penang curry was some of the most lifeless I had ever tasted. You know what went through my head at this place -- this is "Thai food for British taste" -- and that is not a compliment. :) So what can I say that is positive? The staff is friendly, attentive, and fun. The ambiance is intimate and cozy (even though the shopping center in which it is located is like a ghost town! yipes!) Parking is easy, you can take your choice of about 100 open spots! What a shame, really. Surely the staff could put out something with a tiny bit of resemblance to the food they left back in their homeland (Laos), no? Or is this what they think Americans (and we Hawaiians) want to eat?? Gosh, I hope not.

Thai Valley is absolutely the worst Thai food ever. There is a decdnt crowd every weekend passing by dinner time. So we decided to try for the first time. Spring ro'schewy undercooked and no taste) , stuffed chicken wings ( chewy like the spring rolls, no taste, small and thin), fried calamari (decent and best selection but no taste), beef pad thai ( soggy, no taste or color, not enough veggies)...portions small, no taste and a total disappointment...you cannot handcuff and drag me back...hope you take my advice, Bali by Long's is by far the better choice YIKES IF I COULD RATE THEM TRUTHFULLY IT WOULD BE "0"!!!!

Great Cozy Thai restaurant not to big so even during the prime dinner rush you know you will get your food in a timely manner. Spring rolls, crispy fish with chili basil , yellow curry and not to forget their deserts are amazing , you know a place must be good if they can last 14 years off the beaten path. If you are in Hawaii kai try it...

To start this review I need to backtrack to 3 days ago. My family and I went to this Thai festival in kapiolani park. This was a rare thing as this does not happen often I'm told. We were looking for down home authentic Thai cooking. After perusing the food tents and vendors we purchased a few dishes to sample. All were average to good. Then I spotted this whole fried fish (snapper I think). Well I had to try it. OMG. My family and I were licking the bones it was sooooo good. I went back to get another and all the fish was sold out. While talking to the vendor, her name was carol, she said to come to her restaurant in Hawaii Kai and she would be glad to make me more. Well, we just went to Thai valley. I can't even put into writing what a wonderful experience it was. Even my 7 year old son raved about it. Carol does all the cooking, prepping and shopping herself. It is all fresh and made with love. All of the seafood we ordered was cooked PERFECTLY. The balance of seasonings, spice and flavor was beyond any Thai food I have ever ate. Carols cooking experience and techniques are a true art form. I did not see or taste any MSG, fillers or heavy oils or fats. So not only does her food give the umami effect it is on the healthier side if thai food. The atmosphere and decor could match any 5 star white tablecloth restaurant. Did i mention that the place was spotless clean, including the bathrooms and kitchen (carol showed me around). So lastly we got the bill. I was floored at the value we received. For 5 diners, 2 appetizers, 4 entrees and soft drinks, the check was only $72. This meal was well worth over $100+. Thai valley is now a regular spot for me and my family. WHAT A GEM.

my family gets take out here now and then and we've never had any bad experiences. the food was always good and never tasted ketchupy or inauthentic. its a good quick dinner place for take out if you live in the area, but i've never dined in so can't comment there.

I'd rather not waste my time writing a 1 star review but for the sake of the recession and letting people throw their hard earned cash down the toilet, I'll take 2 minutes out of my day to say. "please do not eat here". The food is terrible, it doesn't even remotely resemble thai food. The pad thai noodles taste like ketchup and the noodles are very dry. The beef in the pad see ew, I couldn't swallow, I kept chewing and chewing until I realized it was too tough and I spit it out. The panang chicken was flourescent and watery. I couldn't taste any thai spices in the dishes and I ordered everything medium. I kept laughing because I couldn't believe how horrible it was. Many of my friends who live in Hawaii Kai kept telling me how good it was. Obviously they don't get out much and they've never been to Phuket, Chiang Mai, Maile's Thai Bistro, Keo's or Bangkok Chef. All of these restaurants are where you can find great thai food, not at Thai Valley Cuisine. But the service was good so I give them an extra star.

We had the worst Thai food here. Do not order their Cornish game hen that was listed as a specialty item. It was dry ,overcooked and didn't taste fresh. We also had the worst green curry shrimp whereby the sauce tasted odd and watery. We went back to our favorite place the next night and we had such a wonderful meal there . We won't ever try any other Thai place again.

This is truly a hidden gem in Kalama Valley. It's a small, out of the way restaurant in the Kalama Valley Shopping center. You're greeted by a warm smiling staff that treats you like you're family. My favorite go to dishes are the yellow seafood curry, the seafood pad Thai, Tom Yum soup, and the shrimp summer rolls. Sometimes I'll change out the seafood with chicken and it's still just as tasty! This Thai food tastes like it comes right out of Grandma's kitchen. The service is fast and they constantly keep your water glass filled. Occasionally, the water will have a hint of lemon or lime in it. Love that they do that. If you want Thai and you're in Hawaii Kai, skip the overpriced alternative and head here! I go at least once a week, sometimes twice if I'm really craving the yellow curry. Oh and the leftovers taste even better the next day.

Its been a while since I've eaten here and i must say, the food is still tasty but not quite like i remember. I tried to call in the order but no answer! Not exactly what i was expecting but then again its been a long time since the last time i was here!

  • Janet Y.

The thai coffee was good, great even..if you like it hella sweet. The chicken curry was a bit watery and could have benefited from a veggie or two (beyond what had to be the biggest cooked chunks of potato). The pad thai was either a mini portion or the box was waaaay to big for that dish, because when we opened it, the fried egg seemed to cover all the noodles. kinda manini. It was early, 5, and the kitchen mama was chef-ing up my order, but the others...meh, I don't know. if you are desperate, go..if you can wait until tomorrow, wait. I shoulda.

Great little Thai restaurant hidden away in Kalama Valley! Came here today for lunch with friends and enjoyed a truly delicious delicious thai meal. The Panang Curry with fish was very good. The fish tasted very fresh. Also had pad thai and the som tum papaya salad.

Thai Valley is a MUST stop for me whenever I'm in Hawaii. I love that it's family run and use local products. Definitely, gives me the feeling of OHANA! Love the papaya salad, I asked for Lao style!

Pleasantly surprised...we weren't sure what to expect because the reviews were mixed but gave it a shot since it's so close to home. Seated promptly at 5:30pm on a Friday, although business did pick up shortly after we arrived and all tables were full by the time we left. Between my husband and I we shared the coconut ginger soup, pad thai, and basil stirfry with pork. Everything was very good and leftovers the next day tasted even better, they were great! Classic flavors and tasted just as they should with fresh ingredients. The soup is a large portion enough for six easily as an appetizer. Good size portions and prices overall. BYOB with a corkage fee of $1/person. Friendly staff and clean restaurant as well. Very happy we gave it a shot as we now have a great go-to Thai restaurant close to home! Don't let the ghost town shopping center scare you off.

the workers here are very friendly. when i went it was a bit busy, so the service was a bit on the slower side, but i didn't mind the wait. chicken spring rolls: i ordered this as an appetizer. i thought it was good. not the best spring rolls i've ever had, but not the worst either. thai pho: (i know, why eat pho out of everything else right? but i thought i would give it a try) it came with shrimp, steak, calamari, and scallops. soup was alright tasting, not the best but perhaps its just not something i'm used to. was bummed that they did not have sriracha, but at least they had chili sauce! there is only one size and portion was huge though! i couldn't even finish half. i suggest you share with someone if you order this thai iced tea: i love thai tea. its my fav. this one has a different flavor from what i'm used to. idk if it was just me, but it kinda tastes weird and extra sweet overall, it was an "okay" experience. not somewhere i would come back to. gave 2 stars since it was "alright" food, and since we waited about 10-15 for the check to come after i asked for it. i ended up just going to the front to pay for it

Hawaii Kai food jewel, is so close to home I feel guilty driving to it. Good service, fast/friendly/top notch cleanliness. Authentic?! Absolutely. Our diet consist of Indian, Thai, Korean and Brazilian eats. We've had the worse in the island and the very best, this place is an 7 out of 10. This is only because, downtown Honolulu has Phuket, (I'm a bit bias) sorry! Anyhow, this place it's perfect and consistent every time. Prices are within budget, downtown prices are rediculous. Flavor are finger licking good. Presentation is 10/10.

Moving to Hawaii Kai and this restaurant is tucked in a very under utilized shopping center. Blink you miss it. The spice level is not that spicy, so to get some heat you need to order got or thai hot. I had the green curry thai hot and had to add spice lol. But it was good and I will be back. The tom yum soup with shrimp add calamari was plentiful. Medium spice was mild. Next time I go hot hot hot. Good quality food we will be back:)

Truly a neighborhood gem. A quaint restaurant with friendly staff. The food is always tasty and I can't get enough of their Thai Iced Tea. I know this is harsh that I docked a star because when I ordered their chicken yellow curry (because I was with the parents and can't handle spicy food), the dish was super salty. I'll just blame an off night for the cook.

I've been to quite a few Thai places on Oahu and nothing can compare to Thai Valley Cuisine to me. I can't comment on the dine-in experience because I always get take-out, but there's something about their sticky rice (I know, I know it's just rice but...) that is simply perfect to me and can't be beat anywhere else. Their curries are also amazing, my favorite being the red curry with fish, and the papaya salad is great too! Unfortunately, I didn't particularly enjoy the banana lumpia as well as the chicken wings that I tried once. Nonetheless, I still love Thai Valley Cuisine and I will definitely be back again and again!

Tried calling to do a take out, no one answers the phone. I live 2 minutes away, drove by and restaurant is open. Ordered take out and had to wait for 25 minutes. Food is good, just wish someone would answer the phone to place a take out order. I guess you just have to drive there and wait for your take out.

The service can be a bit slow at times, but this place is AWESOME!!! It's also free byob if I am not mistaken, so save some money and treat yourself. It's very reasonably priced for how good it is too, plus it's less than a mile from my house in Hawaii Kai, so woooooooo wooooooooooooooooo!!!!

My favorite Thai place on the East side of Oahu. Love the Evil Jungle Curries and Crispy Fish with Basil Chili sauce. For appetizer, we always order the stuffed chicken wings with peanut sauce. Tucked away near the entrance to Kalama Valley near heartbreak hill, it's easy to miss while driving by. It's the only business open at the almost deserted shopping center.

Delicious. A quiet place at 6 pm on a Saturday night. No waiting. Prompt service. Delicious food. We had the Chicken Pad Thai and the Seafood Pad Thai, Spring Rolls, Popcorn shrimp and my husband had a Thai iced tea. Only one other family came to sit down and eat. Prime business is take out which means you know it's good. The server was quiet but very nice.

Had veggie pad thai for takeout and it was on point. Asked for it spicy like and she came through. Usually gauge a Thai/Laotian place by their pad thai and I'm most definitely coming back. I asked the owner lady if she makes the Laotian food like larp and beef jerky. She said anything you like I make.

Let me start off by saying....I understand that there are different styles of Thai food....and that there is a huge difference between Thai and Laotian. That being said, I love this little restaurant. The food here has been consistent since the first time I went here.......longer ago than I care to admit. The owner Carol is a hard working "aunty" that is there cooking and prepping and making sure her restaurant runs. We have been going to TVC for years, my family has occupied more than a half of the restaurant at times. It's not a big place, but it works. As with any restaurant, there are favorites and then the other things, I think we have tried them all and we have our go-to menu that we order....always family style. We appreciate Carol's different style, which is to add flavor without spice...she feels like you can always add spiciness later but if the underlying flavor is good, then whatever spice you add just enhances it. Our go-to order for groups of around 6: Spring Rolls...one order chicken/one vegetable. They are smaller than chinese spring rolls, and each order is 6 pieces. -they are crispy and hot!!! made fresh to order. with romaine lettuce, cucumber slices, and mint for wrapping, sauce for dipping. (I love adding the chili sambal to it for kick). Changmai salad...usually chicken or beef -lemongrass, mint, and other spices mixed in with the meat...served with cabbage for scooping up the yumminess Calamari -deep fried, minimally battered, and served with the standard spring roll dipping sauce. Nice and crispy...with just the right amount of calamari chew. Sticky Rice.....one order for every 2 people is usually more than enough. -yup....it's purple. something about that purple rice gives this extra texture to the sticky rice. Panang Curry with fish. -Carol's curry is not a thick curry....in fact, some people say it's runny...but the flavor is great, and if you eat it with the sticky rice, it will all get sopped up into a delicious mouthful of goodness. Street Noodle (Pad See Ew) with chicken -thick "chow-fun" like noodles, with broccoli and other veggies...nice amount of sauce and egg. With more people we add in: Green Curry Papaya Salad Pad Thai Fish Filets with Chili Basil Sauce and on special occasion (called ahead of time) we will bring in something we caught fishing and Carol will prepare the whole fish for us....it's AMAZING! They do take-out, which we do when they are too busy for a large group. I've taken my fair share of people to this restaurant and have never had any negative responses...everyone usually leaves happy and full. It's sad to hear that Mako H. had such a bad experience....I've been lucky enough to only eat there when Carol is in the kitchen, and the timing for me has never been off....but I will say that we have had to remind our servers for the rice when it gets busy...but it's a quick fix. TVC is tucked away, but has been successful for year....there is a reason for that. they are wonderful, nice, hard-working and the food is delicious! If you are particular about thai food, talk to Carol...tell her what you like and she is very accommodating. We are fans and regulars. PS-BYOB

My fiancé and I are frequent visitors of this place since we live down the street. Our favorites are the calamari and summer rolls. The calamari has a bit of a coconut flavor with a sweet sour sauce. It's definitely different but also very yum! The summer rolls also come with the same sweet and sour sauce. The last time we went we tried a new fish dish. It was sooo good! I think it was ginger but there are different ways for then to prepare it. Definitely a must try! Oh ya and it's byob!

My go to Thai restaurant in Hawaii Kai! Staff is very friendly! Also when my boyfriend and I come they memorize our order because we come so often (and we're predictable.) So it's nice to know that staff pay attention to the little things! Food: Extremely good! Big portions! Loads of Flavor!!!! P.S. BYOB :)

I'd never heard of Thai Valley Cuisine until I saw a coupon deal. Decided to try it out since my Hawaii Kai buddy was up and ready for revisiting (for him) the restaurant. Thai Valley Cuisine is located in Kalama Valley off the usual beaten Hawaii Kai path. The shopping center does not seem to get much traffic, and some or most of other spaces seem abandoned by now-closed businesses. Very sad. But perhaps not surprising given the more heavy traffic and visibility off the main drag highway 72. The woman/owner was very friendly and accommodating of us. We ordered the summer rolls to start out with - the usual delicious. For the main dish, I opted for massaman curry with tofu and vegetables - yum! For dessert, I really and truly enjoyed the sticky rice with mango (ripe and sweet goodness!). Probably the highlight of my meal. Fan of that dessert ever since I delighted in the version served at a Thai temple in Berkeley. The woman/owner was pretty cool, saying she could accommodate our requests even if not listed on the menu. Question of when I'll be back to this establishment, off my usual beaten path...

Only two places I go for Thai food and this is one of them. Love the warm ambiance. Always has my order right no matter if in person or take out. Very authentic food and price is good. Thank you for awesome service!

Use to be our favorite thai place. Service very slow. Took 30 min for one appetizer, next appetizer came another 30 min. Still no entrees, meanwhile people who came in after us already got their food and were asking for the check.

I'm not sure how this place has bad reviews! I've been coming here all my life and it has always been an amazing experience. This family owned restaurant always has friendly service. The owner is a lovely woman and even gave my son a bowl of cookies that she fills with her own apple mango jam. The Thai chili basil fish and eggplant stir fry is to die for! The flavors are amazing together. If you're ever in Hawaii Kai this place is a definite must!!

I'm a thai and has been looking for a thai restaurant that serves authentic thai food on the island for so long. One of my thai friends saw this restaurant on her way back from the golf course and decided to get in. We would never discover this amazing restaurant otherwise because nobody is talking about it. She loved it so much she took me there again a week later. Hands down they have the best thai food around! Food I've tried: Spicy papaya salad (som-tum-thai) with purple sticky rice, stir-fried chicken with holy basil (pad-kra-pao) and stir-fried water spinach (pad-pak-bung) The owner is a laotian but she does know about thai food and is super friendly. The restaurant is nice, clean and quiet. Tip: if you are not thai but want to have authentic thai flavor, make sure you tell them you want thai flavor (they make different flavor for non-thais.)

Mediocre, forgettable food with lovely service and atmosphere. The spring rolls were fine, the red curry was serviceable, and the ong choi vegetables were about the level of my cooking. Frankly, if it had been a cheap lunch place, I'd probably be much happier--as it was, each dish hovered around 12$. If you are in Kalama Valley and you need some food, you could do worse. Otherwise, keep driving.

Dont know why this place has such bad reviews... best Thai food on the east side, if you bring your own fish they might even cook it.

My favorite Thai dishes are curries and pad Thai noodles. Loving a wide variety of cuisines means that I may not dine at a Thai restaurant for months because there is so much to choose from in Honolulu. When I do start to crave Thai, I usually want green curry and, if I'm really hungry, an order of pad Thai noodles. That's what I ordered today. The green curry was VERY light on flavor, almost watered down. The portion was fair, the mix of vegetables was good but it didn't have enough green curry flavor. The pad Thai noodles was average. This dish was definitely more flavorful than the curry. This is a small, clean restaurant with a pleasant ambiance and the staff was cordial.

Wife and I have been wanting to try this place out as we pass by it after our Costco raids. It reminds me of some kind of "last chance diner" you see in a horror movie in it's odd location in a semi-abandoned strip mall. We show up around 6 on a Friday night. There is ample seating and it is not too crowded. We have to make our presence known as we are not greeted at the door. We are seated in a remote corner away from the kitchen. Loud customers were chatting in their "outdoor voice" on cell phones. A nice Thai lady comes and murmurs a few words in a thick accent. We tell her we would like to start with a satay appetizer. A few minutes later, young man comes and asks us for our order. We told him we already ordered appetizers and he convincingly assured us that the order never made it to the kitchen. We placed our order...again. Time goes by and I am enjoying my conversation with my wife. We noticed a party come in after us. This guy was wearing a Thai flag on his shirt. His order is quickly taken and food is brought to him immediately. More time goes by, I am getting hunger fatigue. Thai shirt guy is enjoying his meal. Wife and I are staring at our waters. I saunter back toward the kitchen and the restaurant is full. And everyone is eating...except us. After an hour, Wife and I made executive decision to walk out after informing the wait staff. Wish I could have at least tried the food to review it. Next time I go to an unfamiliar Thai restaurant, I will bring my portrait of King Prajadhipok.

Losing faith in this place. Past few times I tried to order takeout, no one answers the damn phone!! Considering I live right down the road, food isn't worth this type of service. Taking my business else where.

This place is great!! My favorite thing is the seafood eggplant stir fry. So good! Good portions, comes with fish, shrimp, mussels, calamari, with perfectly cooked eggplant. They aren't the most friendly bunch, but it's a small family restaurant and honestly I don't know if the cook (the grandmother or mother or something) speaks English. I have not dined in, I know their takeout is amazing and travels well.

This is the WORST experience I have ever had!!! We ordered by phone to take out and this lady who has a strong thick accent had picked up the phone(found out she was the owner). I ordered Pad Thai with chicken, some stir fried dish with PORK and Curry with FISH. 30 mins later, my husband picked up the food and came back home. Then we found that everything was made with BEEF except Pad Thai noodle. I called the restaurant right away and told them that I have ordered with different ingredients. I wanted to bring in the wrong dish and get them exchanged. The owner/the cook got very mad saying, "I repeated the order and you said YES, just bring in the dish and we will refund you but I DON'T WANT TO MAKE FOOD TO YOU ANYMORE, DON'T COME BAAACK." Don't worry lady, we will NEVER go back. I was just calling to see if she could exchange the food to what I really ordered. This is my first review with Yelp and wanting everybody to know how rude this owner lady is and never want anybody to feel the same way I feel.

Whew! All is good again. Came back on a Friday night and the food was back to its usual tastiness! Had the crispy noodle appetizer, yellow curry and ong choi stir fry and everything was really good. I especially liked the ong choi stir fry. Still can only give it 3 stars because of that unfortunate weekday experience but come on the weekends and you'll probably really enjoy it. Oh and just know that the food is not very spicy hot at all so the kids can eat everything but if you're looking for spice you have to add your own hot sauce.
