i'm reviewing the chicken pho. broth is flavorful, although a little too sweet for my taste. portion size is on par with other pho restaurants. so, based on the food, this place gets 4 stars. based on overall experience, it gets 3, and the sole reason for that is because they were burning incense in the restaurant. i can't stand the smell of incense, and certainly not when i'm eating, and even moreso when it overpowers what's supposed to be a very aromatic dish. would go back. maybe this was an exception and not the norm. if the smell of incense is still in the air... will absolutely take out!

Great food and great people. Favorite appetizer - Winter Rolls, can't find this at any other vietnamese restaurant and it's a must try if you like lup cheong sausage. Favorite dish - No. 24 Spicy, it's a dry style mixed noodle dish with egg noodles and rice noodles, pork, shrimp in the spicy sate sauce. Clear broth served separately. Favorite noodle dish - Mi Ga, roast chicken egg noodle soup. Better than home made chicken noodle soup anyday.

Paid this neat and tidy place a visit mid-evening on a Sunday. Was a little surprised that only one other table was taken, but decided to give Pho Mai a try anyway. We sat in the corner, next to a little 'shrine', with a rather large, but respectfully quiet gecko on the wall for company. The waitress was extremely nice and we didn't have to wait long for what turned out to be pretty decent, but not particularly memorable food. We opted not to have a starter and dove right in with the Lemon Grass Chicken (#33) and Lemon Grass Fish (#55). Not sure why rice had to be ordered separately for the fish. Decent value overall and OK food. 6.5 out of 10. Doubt we'll go back anytime soon.

Pho Mai is THE place to have pho but my favorite is the crab meat and rice noodle soup with a touch of tomato. It is happiness in a bowl. The winter rolls with egg and lup chong are also soooo good. The people there are always friendly and attentive- I think some of the other reviewers went to the wrong restaurant. Parking is great.

Love this little place on King Street! My daughter's favorite Pho spot in Honolulu, and she took me there knowing how much I'd love it. Well, she was right!!! Great food, great owners, and left feeling full, happy, and writing this place in as a MUST on my next trip to Oahu!!!

I will have to say that this place is more of a hole in the wall that focuses on the sense of quality and presentation that goes beyond measurement. I walked in to meet up with a friend. I had the vermilion dish that I always get. The dish was simply written as 'rice noodle' but that was okay. I got the dish and I drenched it with all the sauce I could get. I can go on about the quality of the food and how it was made with a certain skill that goes beyond words - but that isn't necessary. The Thai Coffee was very well done. The egg rolls were really well done. I would go on about the quality. Perhaps this will suffice - Pho Mai is an actual dive that fills in the specific definition of the word. Whomever the cooks are, they are quite skilled, and I shall try this place again. Parking is abundant. Getting through the parking pass is rather difficult given it's along the way to Ala Moana. The sign alone tells you where to go. The prices are moderate and it's great.

Sometimes in life, we get hungover. A night of excessive drinking can ruin your next day, but a good bowl of pho can put things back on track. Pho Mai did just that for us a few weeks ago. Oh! And it was a rainy morning. I love having soup in rainy/chilly weather. We stumbled into Pho Mai when they opened on a Sunday morning to find there were already a few people in there. We were seated right away, and immediately ordered our bowls of pho and spring rolls. The uncle who owns the shop was so sweet. He made sure we were taken care of. We drank a lot of water that morning, and he was replenishing our glasses regularly. Sounds silly, I know, but I hate when my water isn't replenished at restaurants. I will straight up drink all of my other friends' waters when mine is done. The pho came out and it was steaming hot. It was delicious. The broth was light and had a great herbal/beefy flavor. It was my fave. The spring rolls were crispy...delicious. This place is one of my fave pho places in Honolulu.

This place is a small mom-n-pop type place on King. The guy is really friendly and helpful with where to park and when street parking is free, etc. But the food is really not so good. Sadly.

Weather you're going to take out or dine in the service and food here is Great! Fast and made to order so your not waiting. I had the #5 and a friend had the #15, they both were great and you can't forget about the spring rolls (oh so yummy)!

Kitchen Nightmare! Rude service. We were the only party, yet the owner/server looked put out whenever we asked for something. He was doing a crossword puzzle at a nearby table, would initially ignore me so he could finish his word, then roll his eyes and heave himself up wearily and go to the kitchen. He just tossed our food on the table like we had a communicable disease. I felt very uncomfortable being there. And the noodles were stale, like they had been chilling in the fridge all night. Worst Vietnamese food I've had (I've spent 2 months in Vietnam so I have an idea of good food).

I have to credit my sister for the discovery of this little mom and pop Vietnamese eatery--she suggested we check out Pho Mai while she was visiting a few weeks ago and since 1) I'd never tried pho before and 2) it was close enough to get to during my lunch break, I said "let's go, girl!" Pho Mai is situated right off of King Street and parking is located behind the building. You can access the parking lot from King Street but just be careful that you don't miss it since it sneaks up on you pretty fast. The restaurant is cozy--probably fits 6 tables or so--and when my sis and I walked in I was surprised to see that the room was packed with lunch-goers. Luckily a table opened up just as we arrived so we were seated right away. Unfortunately, that was the last time anything happened "right away" during our meal. In fact, it took around 40 minutes for us to receive our food, and let's be honest-- aint nobody got time for that. My sister and I both got the Pho Tofu but requested that they add veggies. When our soup finally did arrive I was ecstatic about all the yummy veggies they had dug up--carrots, broccoli, cilantro, celery...this vegetarian was crossed eyed with happiness. Now, mind you this was my first ever pho experience, but that soup was delish. It almost completely made up for the incredibly long wait. Aside from the backed-up kitchen, the service was really good and the waiter (who I think may have been the owner) was very apologetic that we had to wait so long. Since then, I've made a return visit to Pho Mai for dinner service and it didn't take nearly as long. Thanks to Pho Mai I'm officially a pho fan! I'm sure I'll be back again, but am also excited to try other pho restaurants in town.

Ok so I eat Pho at least 3 times a week and have done so for the past ... At least 5 years. So I know good pho. I read the reviews here and decided I'd like to try the place, the only reason they get the one star is the spring rolls were very good. The Pho on the other hand had zero taste.... Zero aroma. The broth tasted like they opened a can of chicken broth heated it and put it in a bowl. The worst Pho I have ever had....

I'm not really a fan of pho but I have to say this place upped my ratings on pho. The place is comfortably sized, simple. clean, with quick service and a very friendly waiter. Although it is my guess that he is the owner who leaves the cooking to a woman (by the voice) in the back who could be his wife. When another guest asked his name and if he was the owner he said his name was "Mike" and his boss was the cook. Whatever...he is super welcoming and courteous, to all his customers. The BEST spring rolls I ever had. And the pho huge and delicious with just the right season. The vegetables fresh and clean. A very enjoyable experience and definite pho referral.

Way to much shenanigans on Saturday night and I needed something to soothe my stomach on Sunday. As a kid, my step mother always made me crab noodle soup and was craving it. Therefore, I was on a mission to eat that. However, why do so many pho places not open on a Sunday?? Do they not know that Sunday is hangover day?? Do they also not know that their food is hangover medicine?? Well, this place was a lifesaver as they were open on Sunday for lunch. Food - Very Good Ordered Crab Noodle Soup (Aka Bun Rieu) yelp.com/biz_photos/b0Mc… I don't know very much places that have it. I know Bac Nam, Pho Thinh & Pho My Lan have it but Bac Nam & Pho Thinh was closed and Pho My Lan is street parking, which I didn't want to deal with. So I told my wife to find me the next closest pho place that's open. If they don't have the crab soup then oh well, any pho will do. I open the menu and lo and behold they have crab soup! WHOO HOO score!! Already a fan at this point. I should have looked over the menu better so I could write a better review but I didn't care to look at anything else after that. That's just the kind of guy I am. When I set my eyes on something, I don't want anything else.... (I hope my wife is reading this). It turned out to be fairly good. The broth, meat and noodles were all good. The only thing I would change would be the amount of tomatoes they put. There wasn't quite enough. Everything else was awesome. Spring Rolls They were good. They came out hot and very crispy. That's good enough for me. I think my wife had the beef broth pho. I tried a little and it was good, but not the best I had. Service - Excellent This place closes at 230 and we came in at about 130. I felt bad for coming in so late but they were still very welcoming and gave us great service. Environment - Nice Parking is in the back of the building. They have a front and back entrance, so if you park in the back you can enter from there too (sorry that didn't sound right but its valuable information). The inside is fairly small. It has 5 or 6 tables that seat 4 people. Overall, I think this is a nice place to eat. I will definitely be back for the crab soup since I know this place is open on Sundays.

Not bad. Not bad at all. Owner was nice & heard good stories from him. Place itself was small & cute. Much like those neighborhood small town cafe more than a restaurant. For the food, here's what I like: 1. Com Tam dishes. The meats are well marinated & grilled with no dryness nor no undercook. Nicely done. 2. Egg rolls. Not bad. Though, please read my suggestions below. 3. Pho. Ok. so-so. Though please also read my suggestions below. 4. Acceptable prices. Now here are suggestions to further improve your business Pho Mai: 1. Pho. The dish of vegetables needs to be bigger in amounts. Should contain more Thai Basils, Regular Basils bean sprouts & other fresh herbs while you still can. Now for the pho itself, the broth needs more flavor of cowbone; add a little more star anise, ginger, & roast onions to let the pho flavor be felted. As for the noodles, try to put a little bit more into the bowl & do not make them clump up like a ball. For the meats, especially the Tai Nam, try not to slice the meat too thin. & put a little bit more meats in the pho if you can. 2. Egg rolls. Flavoring is ok. Just need to add more to make the radius of the egg roll slightly bigger. Also, instead of using the Chinese Egg Roll Paper, use the Vietnamese Rice Paper to make it more traditional Vietnamese Egg Rolls. Overall, not bad. Therefore, I grant you a 3 stars out of 5 from me. I'll definitely come back again in the future someday to try your restaurant. 3 stars out of 5. Congratulations Pho Mai. Keep it up & best wishes to your business.

I have been going to this place for a few years now and I love this family run eatery. The #8 Pho with extra beef tendon and tripe my usual. This simple bowl of soup is loaded with all the regular stuff except but the big difference is the normal little bits of meat, beef ball, trip and tendon are BIG Stew size identifiable pieces of goodness. The mother of the family is the genius behind my culinary pleasure. Make sure to say hello to her when you go in. This little restaurant is a bit dull in the décor department and could use a good scrubbing, but you will not be disappointed.

This is one of my favorite places to get Pho. I love the coziness. The portions are great. I'm not a big eater so my boyfriend and I shared the spring rolls and a large bowl of pho. We were not disappointed. The food was amazing. The spring rolls were hot and delicious. The pho was amazing too. The service is always amazing. The waiter is very personable and very attentive. I will definitely be going back to Pho Mai!

It's Saturday (or Sunday for that matter) and you wake up from a night of drunken frivolity and the pangs of pain hit your head. It dawns on you...you had a few too many shots of vodka or tequila and made the ultimate mistake of mixing the two. Well, after you've consumed a bottle of water and a couple of aspirin, might I suggest you reach for the time-tested, and friend approved hangover remedy of consuming pho. A friend was in desperate need of pho after one of these nights out on the town and come to find the nearest spot open is you guessed it, Pho Mai. While you've probably passed it on your daily commute, the big sign fronting King street is hard to miss. It's menu features not only the traditional noodle pho, but appetizers like spring and summer rolls and rice dishes if Pho isn't your thing. Yet, you come here for the pho. I opted to try the beef brisket pho and the broth was simple and alright. Nothing truly shining, but nothing that really disappointed. However, pho luckily has the luxury of adding hot seasonings like siracha or perhaps a sweet plum sauce to get it to the flavor you like. Service was good and attentive, while the charming nature of its small size is really kind of cute. Parking is available on the street or in the private lot out back.

I can't believe I came here. This place shouldn't even have a 4 stars. Worst pho place ever!! This place is really small and it's has a real strong smell of incense which I can't stand smelling. If you are the type of person who doesn't like smelling stuff like that, then you wouldn't enjoy coming here. If you are hungry then you wouldn't be happy coming here. Serves is really really slow. I think we waited for 30mins or more for our foods to come out. Everyone was so hungry and pissed off at the same time. This place is own by two old couple, think of it like a mom's and pop's shop. You would think it s a good place but really is not. The owner is the only one that was working, so he does everything up front. The man was kind of rude and doesn't have a friendly smile or welcoming face. I came here with a group of 5 adult and a kid and we was pretty hungry. We ordered stoping roll and that was nasty. They used PHO NOODLES and there's like 2 pieces of shrimps and everything else is pho noodles and veggies. Don't get the spring rolls. Their egg roll is OK, but better than the around rolls. I order bun rue and that was straight up nasty with no flavor to it. It doesn't even taste like bun rue at all!!! . My bun rue has half Vietnamese rice noodles and half pho noodles to it. WTF that's isn't how Bun Rue suppose to be. What are they feeding people here!!! Pretty disappointing!!! my bf brother order chickens lemon grass and that came out to be chicken lemon cm grass curry!! WTF lemon grass chicken doesn't have curry!!! the need to write that on the menu! He's Fucken Allergic to anything that's has CURRY too it. This shit could makes him so sick. I asked the owner of we could switch it out and he was being so rude about it and pretty much said we have to pay for it and said this is how they cook their Lemon grass chicken!!!! Well Sh*t they're really don't know how to cook here then! Their pho doesn't even taste that good! That's pretty sad. I wouldn't remand anyone here. There's better pho place than this place and I try some of them too and they tasted better than coming here. U

Perhaps the convenience of this place swayed me to think it was better than it actually was (it's walking distance from my friend's place). Or maybe it was my first visit to Pho Thinh that upped the standard for all pho places I now dine at. Either way, sorry to say, that I have to downgrade my review to 3 stars. Why?? Most recently: 1. Lack of AC. I usually come here at dinnertime when it's cooler outside so maybe I don't notice, but is there even an AC unit in this place? I hate sweating profusely when I eat pho. 2. The mint leaves were dirty and spotted. I'm sure the spots don't mean anything but it's just a little unappetizing to look at...like the leaves have a disease or something. A few leaves were also coated in a watery reddish sauce, as if someone spilled something on it... 3. Lack of cleanliness. This one is Pho Thinh's fault for sure, but ever since I went there where they keep everything immaculate, I now notice all the little unclean things at other restaurants. For example, at Pho Mai, the cap of the Sriracha bottle was crusted with old, dried up sauce. The hoisin sauce cover was sticky, and you need a spoon to scoop out the hoisin sauce (more unsanitary than squeeze bottles). 4. Whenever I visit here, 80% of the time my party is the only patrons in the restaurant. This yields awesome service, yes, but it's also a little awkward when it's just you and the waiter sitting in the same room with no music/background noise. Err.... I'm also a little annoyed they don't have different bowl sizes for the pho. All stomaches are not created equal! I'll probably still come here out of convenience, but sad to say, no longer a 'fave' =(.

My husband and I went there bc we couldn't get into the other places next door. We love Vietnamese food and typically go to our "usual spots." This place was so "home like" and the owner is amazing! He really went out of his way to cater to our toddler and us. The food was excellent and the price was perfect! We would definitely go back!!

If you are in the neighborhood looking for a PHO-nominal experience, this is the place! This will have been my 3rd visit and I am hooked! I've only had the opportunity to try the Pho Bo (beef) all 3 times, but have been bold enough to mix it up on the rolls. Only hit up two seasons so far (summer and winter) but loving it so far! Never had a winter roll before, but with lup chong, egg, and assorted other goodies, whats not to like! They have the usual assortment of sauces. Garlic saute, hoisin, chilli pepper, and sriaccha and the standard toppings for the pho (Jalapeno, beansprout, and basil leafs). Broth had excellent flavor and was a real pick me up given the slightly rainy weather we've been having. Also love the location! Tons of dessert places to cool the mouth and appease the sweeter side of anyone's palette.

It was pau hana Friday again, so I hooked up with one of my friends for a meal. For today, we were looking for something on the lighter fare, as yesterday's Thanksgiving luncheon for me put me over the edge. Couldn't decide on where to go, so my friend suggested we go to Pho' Mai, as it is one of his favorite Vietnamese restaurants. When we walk in, we were greeted promptly.........a very small hole in the wall restaurant (I like that!) & decorated very warmly for the up coming holidays. When I go to a Vietnamese restaurant, I got's to have a bowl of Pho! I've never been here before, so I figured I'd order the house/combination special. It had everything you can think of in the soup, & more........it also came with a lot of veggies (which I like). The soup was very flavorful, and seasoned just right. Ummmmmm! My friend ordered some kind of dry noodle, and they gave him a sauce on the side. On top of his noodles were some kind of crispy spring rolls that were cut up, and some meat (BBQ Meat)..........it looked very tasty, but to top it off.........I could smell it, & the aroma was fabulous! I will be back sometime soon (for sure!), & I will also let me other friends (who are big pho fans) know about this place! Lot of parking in the back of the building...........restaurant is just next door to the La Pizza Rina restaurant. Can't go wrong with this place.........chance 'em!

The food is AMAZING! And the prices are reasonable, even great! The owner is super cool, very attentive and welcoming. He made sure we got everything we needed at a timely manner. The light was off, which some may seem as odd, but I really liked it! It gave a really cool and chill atmosphere. Some like it, some don't. Maybe he only does it when its really bright out or when he's on lunch. I believe he was on lunch break when I was eating, but he was still really cool about it. I should've been more observant on the open and close times. It is a small place, and I found parking on the side street quarter parking, which seemed easy. I don't know about other times. My fave vietnamese place thus far!!! Homely!

Hands down our favorite place for pho and we've tried a ton of places on Oahu! The beef pho broth is the best we've tasted - clean, flavorful, and hot. The toppings are plentiful (whatever you order) and fresh. And we love the youngish waiter/cashier dude with the glasses who is like the nicest guy ever.

I ate at pho Mai for the first time last week and I have to say it was sooo goood! On top of that the uncle there is super nice! Always has a smile on his face. I had the spicy beef pho I think? (#21) I think. But it was the perfect amount of spicy without killing the flavor of the pho. The price is not bad at all. Plus it's close by where I work which makes it super convenient. Thank you pho Mai :)

We walked over here because my daughter had a medical appointment nearby and due to allergies, pho is one of the meals I know my kids can eat. The owner seemed friendly enough, but that was about it. I think he was bummed that the kids were sharing a bowl of pho and that my wife and I was also splitting a dish of lemongrass curry because he never came over to refill water even once after taking our order. The food didn't take too long to come out, but it was only okay. I've definitely had better on this island. The pho broth wasn't flavorful enough for my liking. I can judge it pretty good since the kids don't like to have any vegetables in their broth so I can see how the broth stands alone, and this wasn't cutting it for me. The curry wasn't a strong dish either. My wife and I agreed that it wasn't very good and the portions weren't big for the cost either. Also, the plate he gave us to split our curry was a tea cup saucer. Thanks, brah. A note about the environment of the restaurant. It is pretty quiet until the owner starts talking. Then, the entire restaurant is filled with his loud conversation until he stops which during my meal was almost never. In conclusion, next time my daughter has a follow up with her physician, we'll keep walking past this place.

Fabulous family owned and operated restaurant. If I could eat here every night I would. It is a bit on the pricey side for Pho, but the flavor is superb. They use the right spices that many of the places do not use when cooking. All and all get here and have an amazing bowl of pho!

Right near by Ala Moana shopping center and Wal-Mart near the #1, #13, #2, and B bus lines on S. King Street and Keeaumoku Street, this vietnamese restaurant is really a hole in the wall when you're not looking. I pass by here on the way home and noticed the "Pho" in the name. I always liked Pho, so I decided to try it as a treat. The atmosphere was kind of festive, but it was any other day, I guess. The owner was there and he was friendly. I ordered the beef Pho and it was excellent. I asked for extra veggies and they didn't charge me extra. Score!! The parking situation is lacking, so you might want to try your luck at parking at Wal-Mart and walk up and hope they don't tow your car for being in there too long. I tried that once. Nothing happened. Overall, Pho Mai kicks ass!

i LOVE the crab with rice noodle soup. never tried anything else. that dish is sooooo tasty. i'd give this 5 stars but 1 out of the 4 times i've been here i found a hair in my food. but they comped my dish. the waitress there is VERY customer service oriented. very pleasent and accomodating. *P.S. they don't have high chairs if your dining with children and theres only a handful of tables so you can't bring a large group of 20+.

This is probably one of the smallest pho restaurants I've ever been to! But, however, it is a great find! I came here for a pho craving for lunch a couple times. I got the chicken pho and an order of spring rolls. The pho broth was very flavorful and tasty. The size of the bowl was decent and it was filled with chicken as well. The spring rolls were also delicious. They were crispy, steaming hot and came with a lot of lettuce, cucumbers and sauce. I do like my spring rolls with some cold noodles, but thats not a norm at most pho restaurants anyway. The one bad thing about this place is that the tables are so tiny! We sat at a table for 4 and we were definitely searching for places to put things with our 4 pho bowls and spring rolls. The owner had to come and bring a stool for us to put the sauces and extra plates on...kinda weird! But the restaurant is really tiny. I'm just not a huge fan of tiny tables since I eat a lot and tend to order many things! :) The pho was fairly inexpensive for Hawaii standards, 7.50 for a bowl. The spring rolls were kinda expensive however, just as much as a bowl of pho! The staff is very friendly here and it definitely is a tiny family owned business. The man that served us was really polite and very timely and always kept an eye on our waters that needed to be refilled. I love when restaurants maintain a good water status!!

Bad service = bad pho! We sat down to relax and eat, they brought our pho all packed up to go. We told them we are staying and they pushed us out the door! The people that work here are very rude! We will not be coming back!

My girlfriend and I were looking to get pho-ked up near Waikiki and found this place on Yelp. It's awesome! Small, cozy, super friendly and affordable. We got spicy shrimp, chicken pho and spring rolls- more than enough for two. Very fresh and flavorful. All the haters who said it was slow or unfriendly are just jerks. Honestly, it's probably a 4+ but I'm giving it a 5 just to offset the annoying 2-star-for-ridiculous-reason reviews. Enjoy!

I'm going to revise my original opinion to say that pho tastes so much better when you're hung over! Last time I came to Pho Mai I was super hung over so my big bowl of pho tasted amazing partially because it was reviving me from the dead. Now that I've returned completely sober and not hung over I have to say that this is not the tastiest pho on the island. Last night my BF and I went to Pho Mai and we were the only people in the restaurant at the time. I joked that he didn't have to buy out the entire restaurant just for us! He joked that he had spared no expense and it was his pleasure. He ordered his regular beef pho and I ordered my chicken pho. Like most, we're creatures of habit. Our pho came out really quickly and there are a few things that I think would make it better. More chicken in my pho (it seemed a bit skimpy) and cook the noodles a little more. The price at $7.45 is a pretty sweet deal! Pho Bistro 2 is probably still my fave pho spot but Pho Mai is a decent alternative for those of you who are clean freaks. It's very tidy and the service is good as well. What I really like is that they don't skimp on the bean sprouts and the basil. Plus they give you nice freshly cut lemon and jalapenos. Still probably in my top five for pho and a great spot to grab a quick lunch!

No, this isn't E O Mai, its Pho Mai. Pho Mai is a great little Vietnamese restaurant in Honolulu. It has a limited menu compared to the mainland restaurants in the Viet centers like Westiminster or San Jose, but it carries most of the popular favorites. They have some special things too, Tofu Pho for example. The prices are more than those Viet communities where the competition is fierce, but the food is good. We started with Cha Gio (egg rolls) which came as a threesome, cut in half, so 6 pieces. What was great is that they brought a full plate of greens, including romaine lettuce, cucumber slices, and mint leaves with the Nuoc Mam fish sauce, so you can wrap the Cha Gio in the romaine and add the other greens for a well balanced appetizer. We had Pho Bo (Tai) and Hu Tieu. The broths on both were good, and the ingredients tasty. The Hu Tieu came as a soup (wet type) and the chewy tapioca clear noodles. The Pho had a clear broth with pretty good flavor and depth. The owner is from near Ho Chi Minh City (old Saigon) and has been open a bit over a dozen years. He is friendly! It is a small place with just a handful of tables, but with a lot of regulars and good food.

No way will i return. Owner/server = rude, noodles = mushy and over cooked did no one tell you to thank your customers when they pay and leave?????? how do you mess up making pho noodles?????? really????? that is all i have to say about that.

This place is so good! Their pho is super delicious, and decently priced. The restaurant itself is cozy and clean, and the staff is very friendly. I ordered the chicken pho and finished the entire thing because it was so good (even though the portion is pretty large). I will definitely go back to try other things on the menu.

Oh my pho - so freaking good. Five stars for the beef broth. Ordered the beef pho for lunch last week and it is worth getting for the broth alone. It is DELICIOUS! Whenever I eat pho, I can usually eat about half before I get food. I downed the entire thing - the broth was so good, I could literally not stop eating it. I totally forgot that there was actual beef in the dish until I got to the bottom. I've read that other dishes are good too, but I'd go back just for the beef pho. I don't know how I could resist and order something else!

Love, love, love this place and miss it so much! The owner is a genuine nice guy. I left Hawaii 4 years ago, and he still asks my friend about me. Fabulous pho and spring rolls. When I was pregnant, this was my go to lunch place at least 3 times a week. Pho from Pho Mai was actually my little haole girl's first solid food (other than baby food). Anytime I have pho, I compare it to Pho Mai. You won't be disappointed, and after a few visits, you'll be a regular and greeted as such when you walk in. Did I already say how much I love it?

One of my frieds posted the Vietnamese crab soup (bun rieu) on her wall today and it made me hungry. So I decided to place a take out order. There are several near by my work place but I decided on Pho Mai as I know they have parking (located in the back of the building) and it was not bad the last time I went there to dine in. When I called, a male answered the phone a short "hello" with an accent. I told him I wanted to place take out order and "ok" (I think that's what he said...but was not sure so I repeated it). I told him I wanted the Crab Soup, same response and silence. So I continued to say that's it then he hangs up. I was expecting him to tell me how long it will take or ask for my name and number. But non of that, just *click. Now I'm wondering if he got my order. I decided to just go and see. Got there and got the same type of service (or lack of). But hey, it's take out. While waiting for my food to finish up, two ladies walked in and he greeted them and reconized them and started to continue to speak vietnamese to them. Much friendier than he was when I walked in. So now the food, the noodles and condiments was packed in a plate lunch container while the soup was in a seperate container. All the ingredients were there. However, soup flavor fell just short. I give them props for not adding fillers like tofu in the soup. You can also order one with pigs feet as well with an additional charge. I don't ever expect good service at a vietnamese restaurant. But people, can you at least try? You don't have to speak the language well to smile. I know he knows how, because I saw him give better service to the ladies that just walked in. It didn't seem like he was busy either. I was going to give it 3 stars but the service did bring it down.

Tried Pho Mai for the first time. It's a small restaurant with just a few tables. Our server was so friendly, it made our dining experience that much better. We ordered the pho with beef balls and seafood pho. The broth was very tasty, but I wish there was a little more noodles for what we paid. There's only one size too. The other thing we ordered was the winter rolls. It's a warm version of the regular summer rolls with eggs and chinese sausage inside. Definitely try this one if you go there.

Needed pho on a rainy day and drove into this one. Parking can be tight behind. The owner super friendly, price is affordable, ambiance is a faded out 90's theme with Christmas lights here and there overall clean. But my pho tofu had ants in it! 2 small ones, vegetables for pho was just basil and mung bean....old and browner... Didn't care much for the broth... Besides the pho everything else was fine..

MMMM!! This place is delicious!! The autumn roll had a lot of shredded pork (my favorite!!). In San Jose, we don't have the autumn roll, so I was excited to eat it. The pho broth was tasty. Also, the bun bo hue was yummy. PLUS. the people are very friendly!!

Pho broth is very good and spring rolls are great. Very good take out when you want an easy, healthy, cheap dinner. Have gotten take out from here probably 30 times. This is a nice family run business and they are always happy to see me.

One of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants on the island. This family-owned restaurant serves up the best spring rolls I've ever tasted - PIPING hot and perfectly crunchy. Their cold noodle dish is fantastic as well. Their chicken pho is also great and reasonable, and their shaken beef dish is flavorful.

I hate pho, which is probably the fact that I ate it every day as a kid. So when my friend said that his family owned this retaurant I was skeptical. Therefore, I went tried the pho, I guess I was really sick of pho. Went back the second time got 20 pieces lemograss chicken plate with rice, three spring rolls, AND two summer rolls. All to myself. At first i didn't think I was hungry but I ate all that like nothing. Now i'm not saying it's just good because my friend family owns it but I've eaten at Pho 777. Not very many plate options compared to this place. And I love noodles and their cold noodles at Pho 777 are really sticky to each other. So that makes me sad. Oooopppss geting off track. Short story gotta love the variety of this place and yet everytime I get a plate it's delicious.

I went there tonight with my wife, daughter and 2 out of town nephews, we tried 5 different dishes and of course their spring rolls, was so great my guest was very pleased with the food. My favorite is their shaky beef . My wife had her favorite beef pho, my daughter won ton ,one of my nephew had the chicken pho and the other nephew had the spicy pork pho. Very friendly, very polite waitress.A soon as we get home my nephews asked if we can go there tomorrow night... hmmm

i love pho mai. my friend Bachman's family owns this restaurant but that has nothing to do with why i'm in love with their food. i always order the spring rolls. they come out perfectly crispy and the sauce for it is soooo good! the pho is amazing as well. fresh meats and veggies! the portions are huge so you are guaranteed to leave full. i'm glad my friend kept hustlin' me to eat at his restaurant way back when or else i wouldn't know what good pho was. i miss their pearl kai location since it was hecka lot bigger but hey, beggars can't be choosers :) i feel bad because i know my friend would be working but i usually end walking right past pho mai to la pizza rina since my dad likes spaghetti more than pho X_X

I'm upgrading my review to five stars, because the broth was so fragrant and flavorful. Add to that the very friendly young man who served us. He looks like he's trying to study some heavy duty college subject; he has books at one of the tables, but he had time to make sure we were happy with our meal and kept our water glasses full. This is being added to my favorite pho places list.

Good place to grab some Pho if you're in the area. Nice staff. Small, clean, somewhat dated dining area. Almost feels like you're in someones home. We had a bad experience here and the pho wasn't that good but the service was quick, which doesn't make up the horrible ordeal that the waitress was giving us and making us feel not welcomed! This is the BEST Vietnamese restaurant in Hawaii. It is a family owned business. Whereas the owner/ father, Tran works the afternoon shift, and his son, comes in for the evening shift and his wife is the cook. It is not the typical cafeteria like Vietnamese restaurants I've been accustomed to going to, in fact it is quite small. I think there are 7 tables that seat 4 each. However, the excellent customer service, the music to set the ambiance, the cleanliness of the restaurant and of course the hands down 5-star soups make this place one of my fave restaurants in Hawaii. All of the food is fresh and delicious, when you go you must try no.21 on the menu, Bun Bo Hue. The broth is incredible and the different spices is amazing. A must to go to!!!

I've eaten at probably 20 different pho restaurants and keep coming back here. I'm not to familiar with their other offerings because I love noodles. Their pho is tasty and the broth nice and clear, but they have one dish which I order 80% of the time and it is not pho. It is their # 13 which is an egg noodle in the most delicious, flavorful soup base.Their service is good and staff friendly. Their decor is also warmer than most Vietnamese restaurants.

the pho was alright.. went there to try out different pho places. however, they didn't have the standard napkins, spoon, chopstick containor or sweet black siracha on the table. but the chili pepper and red siracha was there. won't be back until they add that feature. its just one of the quirks can't do without. 3 is less than best.

My husband and I come here all the time - love the small, quiet atmosphere and super friendly service. As soon as we walk in, Bachmann checks that our order hasn't changed, and calls it to the kitchen. My fav is the chicken pho - and I steal a few spoonfuls of my husband's bun bo hue (both our standard orders) and mix it in because the bun bo hue is too spicy for me to eat by itself. Perfection. Pho mai is cozy, comfortable and the pho is tasty. The combo beef pho broth is clean, flavorful and I always leave an empty bowl when I come in to dine. i'm reviewing the chicken pho. broth is flavorful, although a little too sweet for my taste. portion size is on par with other pho restaurants. so, based on the food, this place gets 4 stars. based on overall experience, it gets 3, and the sole reason for that is because they were burning incense in the restaurant. i can't stand the smell of incense, and certainly not when i'm eating, and even moreso when it overpowers what's supposed to be a very aromatic dish. would go back. maybe this was an exception and not the norm. if the smell of incense is still in the air... will absolutely take out!

This is one of my favorite places to get Pho. I love the coziness. The portions are great. I'm not a big eater so my boyfriend and I shared the spring rolls and a large bowl of pho. I will definitely be going back to Pho Mai!

Love this little place on King Street! My daughter's favorite Pho spot in Honolulu, and she took me there knowing how much I'd love it. Well, she was right!!! Great food, great owners, and left feeling full, happy, and writing this place in as a MUST on my next trip to Oahu!!!

Still probably in my top five for pho and a great spot to grab a quick lunch!

i LOVE the crab with rice noodle soup. never tried anything else. that dish is sooooo tasty. i'd give this 5 stars but 1 out of the 4 times i've been here i found a hair in my food. but they comped my dish. the waitress there is VERY customer service oriented. very pleasent and accomodating. *P.S. they don't have high chairs if your dining with children and theres only a handful of tables so you can't bring a large group of 20+.

What can I say about this place... Oxtail pho! Great service, inviting quaint decor, delicious Vietnamese cuisine! As far as I'm concerned you will not find a more suitable, romantic, and price worthy establishment! I have to say that this is my absolute favorite pho restaurant~! Two thumbs up and a shaka to boot!
