Rating a 3 star but not due to food or service, only giving 3 stars because what can you really expect from a L & L type place. It is located in the valley of Palolo so if your ever around there and your hungry you should check them out. Serve some different things than your typical L & L like walnut shrimp, garlic cheese fries and they even give you a punch card if your a regular you can get a free meal after so many visits.

I've been coming here for the last couple years. In the last couple months tho, there was an ownership change. So I'm going to review the new/current place. Their $2.99 breakfast plate is the ultimate, bestest! Decent size and they'll even make exceptions after 9 a.m. - which is when the "special" is supposed to end. Any and every kind of breakfast meat you can think of. Plus they have 3-egg omelets...which I have to remember to try next time. Their pancakes are decent, but the french toast isn't recommended. We got 5 breakfast plates and a pancake plate for $19. That's close to being the greatest thing in the world! =) They have crinkle-cut fries - awesome. The rest of the food is comparable to L&L's, with the chinese stuff too and lots of specials. Hey, it's all about location, and in the Valley, we don't have much to choose from. Prices are decent, staff is super friendly, and altho we do phone order/take-out, the restaurant is relatively clean.

Heard about it from Yelp. We tried the New York Steak and Korean Fried Chicken. The New York Steak was tender but thinly sliced. The Korean fried Chicken was tender yet crispy. The batter was thin which complemented the tender chicken underneath. The owner/order taker/chef definitely knows how to cook. Reminded me of the Old Lanai Inn where the airline person was also the host and chef at the Lanai Inn. Someone should donate a boombox so he can choose a station for music. No fees to pay if he plays a commercial radio station.

Very good garlic cheesy fries and curry plates. Trying to be objective here, the parking lot was easy to get to but the staff was very "quiet". Did not get the warm feeling I get at most customer service locations, but that might be because the food is that tasty. I have to go back to try more food.

I ate here the other day with my boyfriend. We realized it was the happy hour that started in September, the mini plate was 4$ & the regular one was 6$. He got garlic shrimp & I got mochiko chicken. Lets just say that the garlic shrimp was good!!!! Their was a bit to much salt though, if they lay low a bit with the salt it would've been perfect. Other then that, I love it & I only do like garlic shrimp, any other shrimp I wont eat except giovannis. We tasted the mochiko chicken & it was good & crunchy! The good thing about it was that they gave a lot! Giving a lot & low prices makes me want to go back for more :)

This place has awesome cheeseburgers & garlic cheese fries, it doesnt get any better for the price. The mini portion is huge and a real good value for the money. Also the early morning breakfast deal for $2.99 is unheard of and even though I no longer live in Palolo, i still go there often & its worth the drive. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for good food for cheap prices. I also always call my order in so its ready when I get there!

The new owners have a new happy hour special. From 1pm to 5pm everyday, most mini plates are $4 and most regular plates are $6. No tax!

Breakfast: $3.65 with tax for 2 scoops rice, 2 eggs, & choice of meat. I got a plate with easy over eggs & corn beef hash. The corn beef hash was clearly from a can but it hot from the stove and for the price it was very good. Breakfast is from 8-11 am and it opens at 8 on the weekend not 7.

Rating: 3/5 Date visited: 1/23/2012 Food: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Atmosphere: 35 Price: 4/5 Parking: 3/5 How did I end up here!? This place is totally out of my way, but was recommended by a friend, so I drove and got something to eat. Not bad. A one man show when I arrived. If I'm ever in the area I will stop by. Food: Nothing to write home about. Service: Nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary. Atmosphere: Great for people who live in the area. Price: Not bad. Parking: Enough.

Haven't actually eaten here yet but the prices are very affordable and the staff is great. Didn't mind all the drunk people ordering the night I went in (Super Bowl Sunday).

Stopped by here for lunch, which was around 12:30, and was surprised it wasn't packed. Small place, a bit sketchy from the outside, but it'll do if you're hungry and nowhere near a plate lunch joint. I was a bit skeptical at first. Trust me, this place is clean. I walked in with my coworker, and browsed through the menu. Prices were reasonable, around $6-8. I ordered a bento, which consisted of chicken katsu, mahi mahi, beef, and a piece of spam. Portions were fair enough, and I don't have any complaints about the food. What surprised me the most was that the one guy manning the register was also the cook. Luckily, there was only the 3 of us that placed an order. Food did take a little while to come out, but it was piping hot and fresh out of the stove. 3 stars because this place could use a major face lift, and look a bit more welcoming. Also could use some extra help around the restaurant. Poor guy had to ring up the orders, and go to the kitchen to make em, which takes about 5 minutes or so. He's lucky it wasn't the lunch time rush hour.

I'm really mad at this place. A few years ago i used to really like this place, but hadnt been back in a long while. In the last 2 weeks i've only tried two items - cake noodle, and chow fun. Both were really bad. I used to get the chow fun here and it was really good. Now it sucks. Noodles too thin and dry, and no flavor. Boo. Cake noodles was worse. BOO! Maybe the plate lunches are good, i used to like those too, but havent tried them recently. If i do it better be good cuz they already got 2 strikes.

I am revising my review based on breakfast food (I never had anything else here). The amount you get is at a good price and the food is prepared well. My only gripe is that breakfast items cost more after 10:30 in the morning and they don't have any explanation for this... at least they now make it clear when you phone in an order that it will cost more.

This place is right up the street fom where I live , I read on Yelp how good this place was so we were anxious to try it out. We decided to go for the 1-5 pm specials, We had the Garlic Chicken, Breaded Pork Chop, and the Orange Chicken for $6.00 each. BTW they did charge tax. The food ok, nothing special. The macaroni salad was slightly sour and we didn't want to chance it and choose not to eat it. Parking was easy, right in the front of the restaurant. My wf will not eat here again because of the salad.

I used to come here often but haven't tried it for several years until this past week. Now I've eaten here 3 times in one week. I think this place has new owners. I tried the BBQ cheeseburger. It was moist and tasty. I also tried the garlic cheese fries. Yum! The fries are cooked just right and the garlic adds to it. My 2nd visit I had their Korean chicken. It was ok. My husband had the beef broccoli/ orange chicken combo for $7.75. It was a generous portion and he said it tasted better than most Chinese restaurants. My third visit I tried the mahi sandwich. It was a small piece, not worth the price compared to the BBQ cheeseburger. Found out the place has had new owners for about a year now. Went back again for the beef broccoli/orange chicken but it didnt taste as good as the first time but it was decent. So I guess if you are craving for a tasty homemade type BBQ cheesebuger, this it the place you may be looking for.

Got Chicken Katsu Curry happy hour plate. I don't know if they always give you that much, but there was seriously enough for two meals... for $6. Good too.

Tucked away in the lush valley of Palolo is the low key Palolo Drive Inn. What can be thought of as a subdued version of a typical plate lunch place or a mini scaled version of L&L barbecue, I thought that this place was cute; lonely, and somewhat removed from the main drag of Kaimuki town on Waialae Avenue. While they serve a niche for the growing populace of those who reside in Palolo Valley, its a niche that they proudly serve and they wouldn't have it any other way. I found this slice of paradise on a weekday evening run. I didn't realize from 14th Avenue into Palolo Valley via 10th Avenue, up to the top part of Lai Road, and continuing on 10th / Palolo Avenue, down to McDonald's Palolo, and back to 14th Avenue was a solid 7.5 miles. Nice. In that time, I found Palolo Drive Inn and thought why not. They serve breakfast at 7am promptly and do Hawaiian food, as well as Chinese cuisine. That's great for inquisitive tastes. The Palolo Drive Inn is located on Palolo Avenue, near the spot where 10th Avenue and Palolo Avenue changes in a small commercial center among residential surroundings. The public housing facility nearby probably is a chunk of the business, since its a short walk, instead of driving elsewhere for a good, tasty meal. There is private parking for patrons of Palolo Drive Inn and its neighboring merchants, but there's also street parking where available. If you are like me, but not a runner, the 9S bus circles the valley and stops near the restaurant. The restaurant itself is small, save for a couple of chairs and tables for those who want to eat there. The restaurant is acceptably clean and somewhat full and lifeless. Still, it was a place to check out and see what's good in Palolo Valley. Any option to try would be a good one, but I was here for breakfast the next morning. Normally, I wouldn't be in Palolo for anything other than running, but this place caught my eye. I looked at the menu and it was limited, yet it had pretty much all the basics and classic breakfast options. They open bright and early at 7am and don't close till nearly 9pm, so its open for a good amount of time for those in the area for any meal they desire. Its one or those win win combinations. I ultimately got white rice, over easy eggs, and corned beef hash for my choice of meat. Very rare that I have corned beef hash and it was blissful. The taste itself was average, yet better, since it was pretty cheap for what was given. While it could have been better with the portions, it was generous enough to not overkill on the calorie counts, especially if you're watching your health. The service here can be improved. Grumpy doesn't sell food, although I didn't care. Just part of the morning commute; it seems. I must've waited a good 7 minutes, but it was ready and it was good. The entire ordeal took 10 minutes from entering and receiving my order. I paid cash this time around, not checking whether this place takes credit card. Next time, I'll be sure about this if I go back. Overall, its a place that you probably wouldn't know if you aren't familiar with or are doin business in the area. Wouldn't say hidden gem just yet, but its a pretty good place to pick up lunch or a snack, should you have business here in Palolo Valley. Support local! B

Went over here after going to Mong Won Tan Temple ( yelp.com/biz/mong-won-ta… ) one day. Palolo Drive-Inn is located right off of the main drag heading into Palolo Valley, in a small shared building next to a gas station. This place is a typical local dirty diner, although it is hidden in a more residential area. The seats are worn, gritty, and some have graffiti on them. The tables are large, but there didn't seem to be enough chairs to put around them. I would say it definitely has that Palolo Valley feel. After mulling over the fairly diverse menu, which includes a different special each day, I ordered two part mixed plate with sweet and sour spare ribs and hamburger steak. It came with two scoops of rice and a scoop of mac salad. Add a large Pepsi to that and it all came in under $10. The hamburger steak was up there with some of the best hamburger steak's I've had in Hawaii. It was tender, had a great burnt and beefy taste, and the gravy was very savory. The patty wasn't a monster, but a good medium sized. The sweet and sour spare ribs were not that great though. They were hard, dense, and mostly cartilage and fat. The sauce was nice, but felt it wasn't as good as to mask the consistency of the pork. Overall, the plate was a good value for the money though. It has a small shared parking lot. It wasn't too busy at all on a Sunday afternoon. I would go back, especially for the hamburger steak.

Prettttttyyy goooOd! Def worth a try and a drive into the valley. If you like your food a little burnt, this is your place. I actually like that so I was happy with this kinda-like-L&L-but-way-better food stop. Tried the chicken katsu curry & BBQ plate, both yummy choices.
