I'd like to say they have a good breakfast, but I ordered the basic breakfast: 2 scoop rice, 2 eggs and portuguese sausage (suppose to be 4 pieces). What I got is a lot of rice, some eggs (maybe 1 scrambled) and 2 portuguese sausage and 2 vienna sausage :( Cheap but so wrong. She could have asked me if I wanted bacon... Love me some bacon :?

I'm not sure what is so "new wave" about this restaurant. It is a decent okazu-ya with a dirt-cheap breakfast (under $3 for rice, scrambled eggs, and breakfast meat) and more-pricey ala carte items. The fried chicken had awesome skin but the meat was bland. The teri hamburger was very, very good. The potato croquette was good but nothing really special. I got an awesome serving of garlic chicken that had just been prepared but am not sure how good it would be after sitting for a while.

Awesome service & very welcoming. The food to me is ONO & reminds me of the Okuzuya while growing up in Kalihi

I like the fried chicken, furikake and salmon musubi. But their chow fun and long rice had too much vegetables.

My first time coming here wasn't too bad. I ordered garlic chicken and it was really delicious, but the second time around it was n't as good as the first time. The garlic chicken tasted old and kinda cold and the spicy ahi wasn't even "spicy"! The worst part coming to this food joint... the lady used her fingers to pick the glass noodles that was dangling on the outer edges of the "to-go box" back in the container!! Oh 'em gee!! Who does that??! Ever again I'm coming back to this place!! Not to mention the lady has no customer service skills whatsoever!!

Giving one star because buyer beware, cashier is all over with the prices. Guy behind me ordered the exact same thing but his was cheaper because she seemed to know the guy. This happened to other people and they haven't gone back. I wouldn't go back either.

I can easily go crazy at Okazuya places getting every little piece on the menu. This place has all the staples, but there definitely are a few favorites: potato croquettes are good and I love that they have chicken gisantes (chicken with peas and pimentos). From what I understand the prices have gone up slightly, but its still a deal for lunch if you monitor your selections (and don't go overboard like me). Bonus: the manang running the counter is always nice. Side note: they have a breakfast special plate for about $3. I haven't tried it, but that's a pretty cheap meal.

walked after taking a walk that way for lunch Okazuya style so I picked up the Garlic Chicken, Ahi Poke, a Nori Wrapped Musubi, and a scoop of Potato salad the lady at the counter threw in the Seaweed w/ Abarage as a bonus. The food was tasty and it was fresh so it was nice sitting there eating the food as sometimes when you go to some okazuya's the food has been sitting around for a while and the chicken is all dried up but this wasn't the case. Not bad as my meal came out to $7.54

I don't know why, but okazuya just makes me happy =) I love the mom and pop feel, the ability to make your own combo plate, and the reasonable prices. New Wave Kitchen is all of that and more ... besides the yummy okazu choices, they also have awesome ready to go bentos priced from $5-$6. Today they had chicken katsu curry bentos, honey garlic chicken with chow fun and gyoza, chicken long rice, and more. Their daily breakfast special is only $2.95 for eggs, rice, and your choice of breakfast meat... can't beat that! I love that its right around the corner from my house, perfect spot to pick up fresh musubi or bento for my kid's school field trips =)

I love the food here. It's one of the few okazuya places where you can get poke!! The garlic chicken is so ono! There is also a nice selection of veggies to choose from so you don't have to feel too guilty about eating fried chicken. The breakfast specials are awesome too, but my only complaint is one morning I came in, only had a $20 dollar bill, and the cashier complained and almost didn't want to take my money because she didn't have change. I still love this place for lunch though! :) Yelp 365 Challenge #18/365

Just went here today. It's cafeteria style with the food on display and you choose what you'd like. I chose the baked chicken and spareribs with rice. a bottle of 20 oz diet coke and it came out under 8 bucks. It was good chicken, and the spareribs was alright. The lady at the counter was friendly and knew many of the people by first names when they came in. I'll give New Wave Kitchen 3 stars for the food but the lady at the counter gets 5 stars.

Their meal taste like home cooking which is a nice change to have. I had the mini baked chicken plate which came with a scoop of rice (you can choose white or brown), 2 pieces of chicken, and toss salad (toss or mac). I think it was about $6.25 which is not bad and the chicken was delicious!

Great food, good portions, and good value! The Aunty up front is super nice. I like the garlic chicken, salmon musubi, and the Korean cucumber kim chi.

Golly wolly woodle what a day... Found a little known gem of an okazuya on Halekauwila street. SCORE! Was pleasantly surprised by the assortment of okazu. They had the usual suspects: whole fried saba, nishime, kinpira gobo, musubi, fried chicken, garlic chicken, tofu patty and more. But they also had fresh ahi or lomi lomi salmon poke, korean cucumber and won bok kim chee, korean vegetables, and other specials like shoyu pork, and pork and peas. DOUBLE SCORE! Settled on a generous piece of fried salmon bone, a salmon musubi, and stir fried green beans. Danced a jig when I got my total. I'm so happy to have found an affordable okazuya. Its crazy how quickly a few pieces of this or that can add up at Fukuya or Nuuanu okazuya. This place is priced right:New Wave brought the kid back to the candy store with $1.50 salmon, $1.50 beans and pork, $1 salmon musubi. Yes, $1 musubi!!!! Most items are under 2 bucks. TRIPLE SCORE!!! Salmon was delish with crispy skin and omega fatties. Its a bit salty so you definitely need a musubi in the other hand so you can trade bites. The stir fried green beans had big chunks of pork it. How can you go wrong with big chunks of pork? And the salmon musubi... flakes of fresh salmon mixed into the rice and topped with furikake. I'm not saying this is the best musubi ever, I'm not saying they use premium rice, I'm saying this musubi is $1!!!! And it was AWESOME cause they use fresh salmon! And when I opened my bento back at the office, the nice aunty behind the counter had surprised me with a free piece of garlic chicken. QUADRUPLE SCORE!!!! It was crispy, moist, and slightly sweet. I'm pretty much going to eat here once a week. Dat aunty, she smaht yea? Akamai how she gets the repeat customers with her sly smile and kick ass chicken. NOTE: Two parking stalls out front. They open early and have a pretty sweet breakfast bento if you're heading downtown. This is more of a take away spot although they do have a few small tables. Grab your lunch and enjoy the view from Kakaako!
