Good amount of food for the price ! Had the salmon bento with two pieces mochiko ckn for $5.99 Would be five stars if the bento was warm but I guess you have to go early when they come out.

MA MA MIA MAMAYA! This is my "default" place to grub if I have no other choices. MAMAYA is really setup in sections: -HOT table -COLD table -PRE-PACKAGED table -MADE TO ORDER table I prefer the self-serve HOT table if it's my "default" lunchtime and need something, anything, to satisfy my rumbling stomach, like yesterday. I like that MAMAYA offers two types of rice: Japanese White Rice or Multi-Grain Rice. Makes no difference on the rice you choose since it's sold by weight and not type. The entrees are somewhat "hit or miss" here. Really depends on when you go. Generally about 11am-12pm is best or 5pm-ish. I've been here during the "miss" hours and boy there's not much choices or food that's been"sitting" and curdling, on the other hand, I've been here when every spot was filled with fresh foods from pork hash to nishime to meat balls to chicken long rice to hamburger steak to fish tempura to bangers, etc., etc. From the COLD table you can add salads, tofu, hijiki, etc. Again, YOU determine how much you'll pay, since once again it's sold by WEIGHT! A tad pricey just short of $9 a pound, but realize a pound of food is a lot! If it's my "default" visit a tad over half-a-pound is fine with me, but I'm frugal and will watch the carb intake, as rice can be heavy! Use common sense when creating your plate. I've been pretty happy with $7 of food from here... Just make sure your timing is right! There's also a self-serve soda & juice fountain and one of the few places around that offer the local favorite, GREEN RIVER!!! ***This is the 8-part of my Shirokiya Series. Follow me to follow my journey! LIVE ALOHA... YELP REVIEW #238

Tried the mochiko chicken bento recently from here for take out. The chicken wasn't as crispy as I usually prefer but the amount they and the variety of options (butterfish, salmon, etc) make this place convenient for on-the-go situations. The bento comes with a lot of sides so you get a healthy and balanced meal. Definitely worth checking out if you're at the mall already.

Bentos, Musubi and Deli at Yataimura Food Court on Shirokiya's top floor. Simple and economically priced bentos. yelp.com/biz_photos/mama… Example: I am not allowed to come to Shirokiya without getting the grilled salmon nori bento for $5.95 and bringing it home. If my wife doesn't just stop doing what she is doing and eats it immediately then she saves it for dinner or for lunch the next day. They always have lots of these and they are a good value. I have a permanent request buy one each time. Big variety: They have a few other bentos too, including some really big ones. But, also a good selection of musubi, sushi and small salads. On top of that they have a new selection of oden items. yelp.com/biz_photos/mama… Deli: The deli part is large and serve yourself at $8.90 per pound. Some cold salads, vegetables, pastas, oden and noodles plus lots of hot items all "asian" themed. Vegetarian: Really this is my main reason to review Mamaya Deli. Between the cold section and the hot foods there are quite a few meatless vegan/vegetarian items. There are always fried tofu squares, grilled/baked eggplant and mixed vegetables on the hot area. Really easy to put together a vegan meal here. I suggest the eggplant. yelp.com/biz_photos/mama… yelp.com/biz_photos/mama… Fast Checkout: Two fast cashiers with fountain drinks near the cash registers. You can pay for any of the other items you picked up at the other vendors here too. If you are vegetarian and visiting Ala Moana, check this place out for sure. Read my reviews on my list of Shirokiya's vegetarian options.

I've seen many posts of Mamaya and wanted to try here but didn't want to drive to Aiea just to eat. Was surprised to see this place at the 2nd floor of Shirokiya - - soooo STOKED! Had a lot of places to choose from at Yataimura but was determined to try the food here. I'm not sure but I came here in the early afternoon for lunch and was a little thrown off by the small selection of cold foods. There were about 4 or 5 items and each bowl didn't have much in them. I'm a fan of Japanese potato salad but it was not appetizing at all so I skipped it. I also saw a whole bunch of musubi's and they looked pretty good but because I had a MENTAIKO from Mana Bu's earlier in the day for breakfast, I passed on them. I was pleased with the large selection of hot foods but then again, there were in my opinion too many deep-fried items. I worked very hard to lose weight and not going back to my old habits. Trust me, it was difficult to pass but did end up trying one. In the cold food section I took some green beans w/ sesame and GOBO. For the hot foods, stir-fried beef (NY steak), eggplant, deep-fried fish fillet and NISHIME. I'm a big fan of KONNYAKU jelly so I really enjoyed the NISHIME and GOBO, which had some KONNYAKU in it. The beans were seasoned lightly and very refreshing. The eggplant and beef were outstanding. I really enjoy the gristle at the tip of the NY steak and the pieces were cut thick and cooked very tender. However, the fish was a HUGE disappointment. It was cold and soggy. The only reason why I took a piece was because the lady in front of me packed a plate FULL of the fish. I was irritated with her as she used the tongs to "fish" out the pieces she wanted and if she came across one that didn't appeal to her, she tossed it on the side like digging through a rummage box. As I stared at her doing this, she gave me this nasty look but I kept my cool by keeping my mouth shut... My plate ended up $8.50 with tax and although it may seem pricey, I was very pleased with the variety in my plate. Overall, good food and will come back to eat their food again.

If you like bentos, Mamaya located on the 2nd floor of Shirokiya has a variety you cannot refuse. I had a stack of bentos in hand, but my mom made me put some back. The amount of food I had was pretty ridiculous... It looked like I was buying food for a football team! There are so many different kinds of bentos to choose from, so it's easy to see how someone could get carried away. And this last time that I went with my mom, we went later in the evening after many of the bentos had been marked down! Woohoo! Most were 10% off, but there were some that we're $1-off. I ended up buying: -teriyaki chicken combination bento -salted salmon combination bento -pork buns (Tonkatsu Ginza Bairin) -and a mixed Asian food bento: 2 pork shumai, 2 crab and pork shumai, mabo eggplant, and sweet sour pork. What I love about the large / combination bentos here are the random variety of sides. Ex: The salmon bento came with rice, 1 spring roll, 1pc karaage chicken, some kind of herb-seasoned pasta, cabbage, seaweed, ginger, and tsukemono. Not all the bentos have the same sides, so take the time to look at what combination works for you. Tip: don't peruse the food on an empty stomach. FYI - For all you Ala Moana employees, they no longer give a mall discount. They did away with that when they changed over to Yataimura and Mamaya. Boo. Yelp 365 - #112/365

Four for value. Shirokiya has transformed into an Asian (mostly Japanese) food paradise. This is not the Shirokiya of my childhood. Inside the main side area on the 2nd floor is Mamaya which offers a large selection of bentos and musubis. There is also a salad bar area as well. Plenty of vendors are offering bentos as well at varying prices. Though I found Mamaya's bentos to be the most reasonably priced. There was a Black Friday special bento that I got here for under $5 after tax. The bento is your typical okazu bento. It had tamago, sliced hot dog, chicken karaage, fried fish, takuan and two types of rice. One wrapped in nori and one topped with ume flavoring it seems. Generally enjoyed the bento, though the chicken karaage was cold. Still, I found it to be pretty appetizing and reminiscent of the bentos you would at convenience stores in Japan. If you are looking for cheap eats at Shirokiya, I would check out Mamaya.

I like their bento boxes and Onigiris. Good deal, good taste. I still like Manabu nigiri the best... YELP 365 - 277/365

My new favorite lunch place during the work day in Aiea! I make my coworkers jealous when I come back to work with my food. Butterfish bentos, salmon stuffed w crab bentos, chicken kaarage bentos! yum! chichi dango, yum!79 My favorite however, is the okazuya style buffet that is about $7.95 a pound. I make myself a nice plate everytime I go...nishme, Japanese style eggplant, kobacha pumpkin tempura, kaarage chicken, fish w capers, noodles, awesome Japanese style mashed potato type potato salad, gobo, maki sushi, oh man so good! This is a gem in Aiea! They also sell their bentos at Shirokiya but they are marked up $1-$3 at shirokiya. They have a 15% off coupon usually in the midweek or the dining out section in the Sunday papers.
