I remember 1973. L and L Drive inn on Liliha st., exactly across the street from our family's residence of 45 years, there's a medical clinic there now. I remember as a child the mom and pop turning out my favorite mixed plate of beef curry, teri-beef, hamburger patty with 2 scoops rice and macaroni salad, garnished with 2 pieces of takuan or pickled radish. Living between Hawaii and the mainland at the time, a plate lunch was a novel delicasy for me. Fast forward on my return in 1978, where I still remember a very young Mr. Kam cooking up the burgers and plates solo, with maybe a helper sometimes. I would watch his routine of flipping the burgers turning to the counter behind him with the patty and toasted buns, squirting the ketchup and spooning out the mayo onto the burger and quickly wrapping in white or yellow paper. I later remember his sister then mainly working the window and later his would become mrs. also working the window as the business got busier. I remember Mr. Flores only on a couple of occasions around 1978-79 working the grill, he was doing other business chores mainly I guess or pulled a different shift than when I was there. The plates then were the greatest! I could still get that original mix plate I loved except minus the takuan, and somehow the curry tasted better. My favorite plate lunch place was L and L for the next 20 years. Then came the franchising in the early to mid 80's. At first it didn't seem to change much, just addtional locations to enjoy my favorite plates. After about the 5th franchise, I started noticing the subtle changes. The original Liliha location was maintaining their taste and quality, but the other locations were starting to falter. The taste wasn't quite the same...still o.k., but not great. The 90's brought more locations here and on the mainland. Copy cat places would pop up from former franchisees and employees bastardizing the original recipes. The Land L brand still tried to hold on to its former glory but with so many hands now in the pot, consistency was impossible other than similar items on the menu by name only. Soon, locations would add their own specialties outside of the L and L brand. I admire the business model that Kam and Flores has put forth. Generations of locals have now grown up on their food. But those of us who remember...really remember long for what was. I guess you just can't go home as they say, progress has no patience in looking back. But in looking back you discover what made you. Not accounting spreadsheets, market share and the like...but the hands on love and dedication in creating something tasty, fast and cheap. The Chopsticks brand I do not understand. Sorry, but it is some of the worst Chinese fast food I have eaten and I've given several locations numerous tries. The noodles greasy, the broccoli mushy and off color, the rice not Chinese style but either Diamond G or Hinode, when you look at the line up, everything looks very dull and unappetizing. Maybe the chopsticks brand works in the mainland where Chinese fast food can be of dubious quality, but in Hawaii we have so many great choices. If the Chopsticks brand wishes to really compete, then they have to look at Chinatown Express, U-choice at Don Quixote, even Panda express...did I really say Panda express??? Seriously I think it's that bad. I'm giving 2 stars here only because of L and L's glorious past and some locations are really trying to serve up quality plates although the current batch is different from what once was. I am not questioning the success story that is L and L, they continue to do well, so they are doing something right. But I feel like a lot of this current generation, doesn't know better. America's fast food mentality creates consistency in mediocrity at best, much like union labor. If anyone in the L and L family reads this, I hope they take a time out to look within, to remember when...maybe it's impossible to go back after all that has been built. But anyone out there who may want to enter the competing field may take a look back if they remember when....

Traffic sucked big time so my bf and I decided to stop here and have dinner. The lady at the counter had what looked like to be a hickey on her neck, and an irritated look like she didn't want to be there. Maybe because it was Halloween? idk. I ordered a mini chicken cutlet (katsu with gravy) with brown rice and mac salad. I love their gravy! There's something about it that tastes different than most. I order mines with gravy all ovah cause the salad just tastes better with gravy! Their katsu is so soft and tender! I loved it! I also love that they offer brown rice. Most L & L's don't offer it. My bf ordered a BBQ mixed plate. He loved it. The chicken was tender, beef was good, and kal bi very tasty. This L & L is open till 11pm which is very good. Especially if you have a late flight and want an awesome plate lunch. Its less than a 5 minute drive from the airport!

Eating the beef stew and bbq chicken from this L&L was a sad day for me. I so look forward to my beef stew and bbq chicken but I'd be scared to go back The beef stew had the normal beef plus some other meat that looked almost like corned beef. But the worst part was that it was sour. I'm not sure if it was sour on purpose, or if they were making a sweet and sour soup and accidentally used that for the beef stew base but it was bad. The first indication that something was wrong: it wasn't the normal orange color that it normally is. It was a pale yellowish pink color. I should have been more careful. The BBQ chicken at least wasn't rancid tasting and it was edible but it still wasn't as good as normal. The normal perfectly barbecued flavor wasn't there. Perhaps this place is ok for lunch but be warned that dinner might present you with some scary and nasty surprises.

Picked up a loco moco to go for dinner a couple of nights ago. Wasn't bad for the price I paid. Exactly what I expected and was craving. Service was alright and pretty efficient. Parking is excellent and conveniently located near the airport. Easy to stop in while on your way back from the airport. Food: *** Service: *** Ambiance: *** Value: ****

I used to frequent this place but since its not 24 hrs anymore I dont. Breakfast for $5 before was massive and not crowded at 4am! All I know is this place really went down hill just before the hours change. People were waiting almost 30 mins for their food and were just walking away int he mornings!

Walking distance from the Honolulu Airport. If you're not sure of where by foot, take the Alamo Car shuttle to their facility and you will see L&L on your right. Easy walk from the facility. Either walk back or take the Alamo Shuttle back to the airport.

I'm not a fan of any "drive-inn" type restaurants, but last night I had to stop off and have dinner. Wally and I had oredered mini's (which is a big plus), I got the special which was mini korean chicken and Wally got the mini chicken cutlet. What was great was that you have a choice between brown rice and white rice (another plus), however....i've tasted waaaaaaay better korean chicken! Wally's chicken cutlet was great, infact, i liked his cutlet better than my korean chicken. Their mac salad is always good with some of that gravy. Wally also ordered french fries which was ok, i love that it was the fat crinkle fries. I wouldn't order the korean chicken, but if i had to i would definitely order the chicken cutlet. Another plus was the L&L rest. was very nice and clean, which helps out with the ambience of a "drive-inn/plate lunch" place. i suppose i was ok with the place for the price. Mini's $5 good price with a good amount of grub!

HI-YAA! That's the mindset my stomach is in after getting off the plane from San Jose each summer and winter vacation. By the time I step off the plane I'm usually fiending for some local food (and no, the Hawaiian Airlines on-flight meal doesn't count). Going to this L&L has become a tradition, and there's nothing like a plate lunch after 3 month chicken katsu dry spell. The food here is pretty decent; I only come here after coming back home from college, though, so that may be skewing the taste upward. It's a pretty standard L&L, with your typical choices; haven't ever tried the Chopsticks Express, however, so I can't comment on that side of the shop. The portion size is good, and I've started ordering two chicken katsu sauces because I always run out about halfway through the plate. This is both a blessing and a curse, as I'm always full after, but there's never enough rice and mac salad in the plate. If you in the mood for some L&L and you're in the neighborhood, I can wholeheartedly recommend this location. If you're far away, however, find another one closer to you.

This review is for L&L. I've never eaten on the Cop Stick Express side. Ginger chicken is by far my most favorite dish here. The chicken is well cooked. Their Ginger garnish is awesome. It is such a simple dish but yet so flavorful. I realize that this dish isn't for everyone, but I really like it. The BBQ chicken is also good. I normally come here for lunch. I recently ordered for dinner and it was a bit underwhelming -- the beef stew was a lot a more soar than normal and the BBQ chicken wasn't as great. Not sure if that's because the traffic during dinner is slower than lunch time. There's plenty of parking and its close to the airport (not walking distance).

Always enjoyed the airport L & L food but I'm not sure if it is me but since they moved to standardize the L & L franchise locations, it seems like you are getting less food?

I came went here for dinner tonight because I happened to be in the area and I was craving a L&L cheeseburger. Well at least I thought I was. The ones that I have had at the L&L in Pearl City have been good at least. Plus I was too lazy to get out of my truck. So I stopped here because they have a drive thru. Well for one it is almost impossible to read the prices that are on the menu board because they have them written in marker, and who ever did it wrote most of them too big so they are crammed in the white piece of paper. So anyways I placed my order for the cheeseburger combo meal. It actually was the the double cheeseburger combo meal and it came with fries and a medium drink. I chose pepsi. The girl operating the drive thru did not give me a total so when i got to the window I was not sure of the price. Once I got to the window she told me that my total was $7.07, not too bad. i had to wait a couple minutes as you do at all these restaurants because they cook the food when you order it. After receiving my order it was what I expected portion wise, with the fries and the drink. But when I got home and began to eat my Double cheeseburger I was a little upset. They had given me very burnt patties and to cover up the fact that they were burnt what do you think they did. Yes they covered them with condiments. There was so much ketchup and mayonnaise on it, that the bun was sliding all over the place. I still ended up eating it but was a little upset because the ones that I have eaten in PC were so good. I know they are each independently owned so I guess i can cross this particular one off of my list. And then add it to the list of places not to go again. But I can tell you this. I would eat here in a flash before I ever go to that Teddys Bigger burger.

A filling breakfast. 5 count them, yes 5, link sausages! The taste was good and the close walk from the airport is perfect for those with a flight delay. It's good for this kind of place.
