A decent place to go when you can't make up your mind. The radio is always playing music, there's sports on the tv and the "large" size fountain drinks are like small buckets. Even when dining in, you're given your food like it is to go. Don't know if thats just how they do it or they're hinting at something. Haha

Service too aggressive. Stare at me, take my order, snatch my money. In addition gentleman moved from cash register into the food prep area, handling money and food without washing his hands. I threw the sandwich away. No Aloha spirit here.

Quick, fast, L&L Service. No matter which L&L I go to my mini chicken curry katsu always tastes the same and for $6 its like a regular plate. WINNING!

Soggy and old tasting Chicken Katsu. It tastes like it was refried twice and old. Just wasted $8 on a mini because It tastes terrible and I'm scared of getting food poisoning!

this is where the old grace drive inn used to be. i hadn't gone to L and L in a while. just because you think of mediocre drive in food. however, i found myself here the other day and was pleasantly surprised. the portions are huge and they give you a lot of food. i had the beef stew and the beef, although not the greatest, had huge large portions. before i ordered it i figure it would be all potatoes and actually was super surprised. they were a little busy, and i see why

These guys are still going great. Looks like the word got out to the locals I went for a quick mini before heading back to Waimanalo and there were plenty locals waiting in line for lunch. I knew this place would catch on soon enough.

Not sure why they have such bad reviews. I love this L&L. It's my favorite one. So far I've tried their BBQ beef, beef stew, chicken katsu, and BBQ chicken. I love all of it except the BBQ chicken. I wasn't too pleased with it, but everything else was awesome. The meat in the stew is super tender, the BBQ beef is super flavorful and not too dry and the katsu is perfect. They give very generous amounts too. Better yet, they don't charge for extra sauce like the Kahala L&L. The Kahala L&L is closer to home for us, but we always drive to the Market City L&L. Can't beat it. Their hours of operation aren't bad either. Super convenient unlike other locations that serve breakfast, but don't open till mid morning and close super early.

Don't know about the other reviews but we thought it was great! Ordered a BBQ burger and a ramen nudle burger that was just delicious!

They don't charge extra for brown rice like some other take-out places.

So while their cashiers are not their high point, I don't come to this location for service. I come for their considerably nice portions at great prices! Their mini plate @ $5.75 is pretty generous! And the food is actually good.

Want inexpensive fast food, generous portions, and clean eating area, then definitely go to the Market City L&L. I have never found this place to be dirty, so I don't understand the previous review. The food at this L&L location is the best my family has tried in Honolulu, and we've tried most of them. As for the cashier, you smile at her, she'll smile back!

To L&L Markert City: This is the first time that I have ever experienced this type of treatment. I still am in shock and currently laughing. Mainly because I don't know what else to do about it. Know that this review has nothing to do with the food, it's about the guy who makes the food. YOUR food. We came to L&L for a late take out, knowing that you were going to close in 10-15 minutes, we asked if you were still open. The counter person kindly said, "for take out only", which worked for us, so we proceeded to order. The first thing we ordered was beef curry, and that's where everything went wrong. The counter person asked us to wait while she checked with the kitchen. And here I am getting ready to say, "ooh! beef curry...i'll have a bowl!" There, to our surprise, was the guy that was preparing the plate lunch giving us, your customer, the meanest stink eye that I have ever seen! Like we expected him to make the curry from scratch?! I know that curry is made in advance so either you have it or you don't. Why would you make your guests feel so uncomfortable? The order was taken, so you obviously had curry, so why was this order such a challenge? Needless to say, for the second order, we opted for the roast pork, which was delicious! Yet, for all I know, it may have been some "special sauce" that made that made it tasty. The last thing that I have to say is this, if you didn't want our business you should have locked the doors prior to closing or at the very least, say you're closed when we asked! What a concept, answering a simple question. And yes, I feel better after venting.

Knew they just opened up and the one on Kapahulu just closed. So we decided to try it out. Decor is similar to the newer L&L Barbecue place, very clean and bright. The service was pretty good, food came out nice and hot. we had the lau lau and kalua pig, my wife had the healthy garlic shrimp. both was good, but there was smaller shrimp than it was in the picture. The only thing that was very bad was the music they had was way too loud. it just made me want to rush in eating and get out of there. Then they also allowed people asking for donations. so they had loud radio music and a guy playing christmas music on a guitar. have the radio music or the guy playing the guitar, not both. i would come back again, but only for take out and not to eat there. Enjoy Everyone!

If you want To try a little piece of Hawaiian style saimin/ramen, go here and order the aloha ramen. It has BBQ chicken, any kind of egg you want, and it just tastes like awesomeness. If you want it more Hawaiian, try adding spam. Though not many "tourists" like spam, I promise you it's amazing.

I am a huge fan of L&L. I used to go to the one in FiDi in NYC. But the one in Honolulu is WAY better. The restaurant is mostly a take-out place but there are a few benches / booths. It's not quite as bad a McD in terms of ambience but by no means it's a sit-down restaurant. However, the food is AMAZING and well-priced. I ordered the Kalua pork and Lau Lau (also pork) plate. Both types of pork are amazing - well seasoned, tender, full of flavor. It goes so well with the macaroni salad. By the way, the Mac salad was so much better than in the mainland and the counter girl said it's b/c they use Japanese mayo in Hawaii... I would come back here again and again =)

Like L&L in general. But this place/location is a bit better than some of the others I've been to. Good food at a good price. If you want to get a decent taste of Hawaiian food at a decent price this is a good place. My favorite is the kalua pork. Have had the lau lau and its OK but not great. But it is all simple, hardy, tasty food.

Food is typical L&L, service is okay, and it's new and clean. My problem is that they are adding a "service fee" for using a credit or debit card if your total is less than $10. This is a violation of the merchant agreement with both Visa and Mastercard, and I've reported this location to both credit card companies. I know that credit card fees can add up, but if they don't want to pay it then they should be cash only.

A little hidden gem for plate lunch. Next to Ben Franklin, this location is clean and service is fairly quick. The order takers aren't the friendliest of people, but they aren't unpleasantly gruff either. Just place your order and don't have too many questions regarding the order.

My kids love the chicken katsu and loco moco. They give generous portions for the mini and regular plates. Wish they had coke instead of pepsi :)

I have been to many of the L&L's on the island and find most of them are good. The food is pleasing to the eye and then the tummy. Some stores are cluttered, not very clean and I wonder what shape the kitchen is in. I don't need a tummy ache. This store is very clean. Tables, floor, and restroom. Even if I only want take-out, cleanliness counts. I also like the LARGE portions. I am a big guy and I can make two meals with a Chicken Katsu regular. I also like their prices. If you are in the area, give them a chance to show off their menu. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Sometimes it's hard to get a great price and delicious meal. So Ono!

Food-wise this L&L is okay. I have had several plates from here but primarily go for the Chicken Katsu platter because they put a lot of chicken on the platter. I have ordered one of these platters about once a month for the past three months. It is perfect for the last minute, I need to make dinner for a few people "let me cook some L&L" situation. If you can get past the terrible customer service towards the end of the night when the employees are obviously cranky from working a long shift, then it is a perfect spot for some decent food. If a negative attitude tends to marinate your palate with colorful twisted flavors of bitterness, this may not be the ideal place for you. All in all an okay place for a quick meal solution.

This review is based on portion size only. Like come on, look at that!! "Mini" plate is like a regular size!! Likey likey!! Only 4 stars tho. Not enough to give 5 just yet..maybe on my next review.

Well I just drove up to get some dinner and the lady told me at 8:42pm that she was closed?! What is closing time 9pm? She has the open sign still blinking in her restaurants window. Well the food is okay but overall bad customer service for tonight. If you're hungry all day of the week after 8 pm and you're in the Kaimuki area you should go to Saint Louis Drive inn. Just to let you know not 3 minutes gone by and this lady leaves 15 minutes before the shops closing time!

Worst L&l ever. I got a loco moco and my hamburger is so thin it's like paper and my rice scoop is so small. Waste money.

I'll just keep this review short and simple. Cashier dropped the plastic utensils on the ground and did not grab new ones to put in the take out bag. I'll definitely think twice about coming here again

I'll keep this short... Cashier- simply doesn't like her job, SIMPLY RUDE! Didn't like her at all. If she was wearing a name tag I would so like to put her on blast. Food- better then most times. Tables & cleanliness- umm dirty, dirty, dirty!!! French fries on the tables, lettuce, ketchup & smears of god knows what, it was nasty. All I can say is YUCK.

This is my favorite L&L. I don't know what's up with all these comments on the cashier being so rude. My dad & I come here so often that she knows our order. She is the sweetest lady, we love her! As we come in to pick up our order she already has everything packed including the hot sauce she knows my dad loves.

Bad Customer Service. Sitting in the parking lot trying to feed my baby, I called to place a takeout order at 9:40 pm and was told No. Needless to say Sumo Ramen next door got my business tonight. Some advice, if you say you close at 10, close at 10 not 20 minutes earlier. Or change your closing time to 9:30. Very disappointed.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
