Their garlic sauce and bacon Sirloin Steak dog is a must if you are lucky enough to stop by this stand. The prices are a bit high, but downtown Waikiki that is to be expected. It was about $6 for the dog, but the toppings the guy provides are just awesome. Load up your dog with as many or as little toppings as you like, although with that selection, its hard to get a regular hot dog. Definitely worth a stop for anyone around Waikiki, and its AWESOME that hes open 10pm-4am. Late night people: this is your place.

I had to try this, per recommendation of Frannie, our wonderful bartender @ Mooses!! She insisted we must have Mike's Great Hawaiian Hot dog, which is a mobile stand parked out in front of Moose's after 10pm on Tuesdays. It is worth the wait!! I had mine topped with pastrami, kraut, garlic sauce, cheese whiz, and Siracha!! effing amazing!!! I tried Puka Dog a few days later and it fails in comparison. This is the perfect dog!!

Given that it opens from 10pm - 4am, it's hard not to guess who it caters to, and to say the least, inebriated taste buds can't say much. I hate giving this place 2 stars, as the guy working the stand is super nice. Nevertheless, I don't think I can eat another dirty water dog, even if it is topped with bacon, garlic sauce, relish, and other goodies. The point is, without the toppings, there is nothing stellar about the dog. The thickness is overwhelming (that's what she said), and it tasted like a soggy sponge. Maybe it would taste better grilled, but as it is, it is definitely not worth $6.

So it's not a NY "dirty water dog", but it's a darn good hotdog nonetheless -- although I admit most of the DWD attraction comes from the entire experience, not just the quality of the product. Great combination of quality sirloin, bacon, and the very good butter garlic sauce. Guy was really nice and gave us an extra strip of bacon on each dog for mentioning we found out about this place on Yelp. Definitely worth a visit! Especially after having a few drinks!

BOMB!...love these hot dogs!...okay, sure...it was past midnight on halloween and the line was pretty long from everyone getting out of clubs and bars...BUT!....the short wait was soooo worth it...SIRLOIN STEAK hot dog...MMMmmmmm....SECRET SPICY GARLIC SAUCE....MMMMMmmmmm....LOADS OF SAUERKRAUT!!!! WHAT!? (how did he know that was my favorite and that I couldn't eat a hot dog without it?)...I fell in love...and devoured that oh so scrumptious dog withing seconds...I think everyone was looking at me crazy because I piled it pretty high with sauerkraut with ketchup and mustard all on top...(my mouth is watering now).....okay...gotta get a napkin to wipe my drool.

This guy definitely knows how to sell a hot dog! You gotta try it with the super garlic sauce. There has been other people who try to copy his stuff but no one does it as good. Pile on the jalapenos and you got the #1 dog in Hawaii. Please open another location!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We arrived off the plane and checked into our hotel. Unfortunately, the international marketplace was closed so we walked around and found this hot dog stand. The owner was very friendly and hooked us up with extra bacon as we mentioned we read about it on yelp. The hot dogs were good, but not as good as Puka Dog. Sorry! It's in a great spot for late night party-goers looking for that late night snack.

A freaking Mazing. I don't eat meat. But will have a hot dog from time to time. You have to get the garlic sauce and NACHO CHEESE! The owner is super duper nice.

  • Todd R.

Believe the hype! I had a steak dog with bacon, jalapenos, cheese, onions, and the garlic sauce, it was outstanding. I think this could have been the best dog I have ever had and the guy running the show is very friendly as well.

    (5)
  • Michelle O.

These hot dogs are no joke! We were on the run from a 'sitch' and on the way back to the car, could not resist the aroma of sizzling meat. While waiting in line, ran into others we knew and it was a midnight reunion over the best tasting hot dogs w/garlic sauce & onion. Mmmmmmm. Encased meat.

This stand is awesome! I come here at least every month on one of my drunken nights after leaving Genius lounge right up the road. When you got the drunchies you got them bad and who wouldn't want a hot dog with all the works... Pfff no one that I would want to be friends with! Bacon. Yes. Pulled pork. Yes. Onions. Yes. Jalapeños. Yes. Nacho cheese. Yes. Sauerkraut. Yes. Siracha. Yes. Sirloin hot dog cooked to perfection. Yes. Garlic aoli. HELL YES! Put it all together and just wait for the explosion in your mouth (also be prepared for an explosion later the next day down under LOL). In all seriousness though best place in Waikiki to get your hot dog fix on. The workers have been the same for the past year, and have been outside of Moose's for as long as I can remember. Yelpers! If you're not too drunk make sure to check in! If you do you're rewarded with free bacon or a heap of pulled pork on top of your heavenly creation.

Well it was 4am and most food places were closed at this time. Being jetlagged and wanting to grub on something, I looked up this place to grab a delicious hotdog. Now, there's no denying the hotdog wasn't amazing, i got the BEAST which consists of hotdog and pulled pork. This review is based on the small encounter and the aftermath that followed. First, it's conveniently located in the bar area where drunks can have easy access to a midnight snack after being kicked out. While in line for my hotdog with my gf, someone just left the bar and jumped infront of us to grab a hotdog. I know that the Hotdog handler keeps account of how many people are in the line because just prior he called out 2 people for loitering infront of his cart and saying 7 groups left because of them. We weren't drunk, so we were well aware of the situation and the cook still served them first. Then, I woke up the next morning after eating the hotdog with an upset stomach and having the runs for the rest of the day.

Supposed to be open till four on Thursday but the hours are incorrect. No hot dog was served to this customer on that day.

    (1)
  • Jeremy B.

Late night only. There are so many people just loitering and smoking near this place that the food tastes like ash. If you don't smoke I wouldn't recommend it.

yelp brought me here, yay! i got the beast hotdog with bacon n pulled pork! i mean for the price its perfect. you add on how many condiments and sauces you want! i wished i wouldve ask for less bbq sauce though because it kinda overpowered it a lil. the guy was very nice! customer service at its best.

This place is an awesome! In my opinion its better than Puka dog and hanks haute dogs. Special garlic sauce is tasty! Writing this make me want to drive out there a eat again!

So, I'm not that hungry. It's mid-afternoon and I'm walking into the big computer store when something caught my eye. I see a big yellow hot dog stand with a sign that says: Sirloin Steak Hot Dog. NO FILLERS OR EXTENDERS. Secret Garlic Sauce. I go in the store, do some mindless shopping and talk to one of the cashiers. He swore he eats at least one hot dog a day and it's the best hot dog he's eaten. So, how could I not try one of these with that kind of endorsement. Sure enough, the sirloin steak hotdog is good. It may not be the bestest hotdog I've ever tasted, but the fact that it has no fillers or extenders, that makes me feel better. I'm not sure if I would pay $4 for the the hotdog, but if you care about fillers and such, this may be the hotdog for you. The real kicker is the sauce! It's SO good and so worth it. There are other cart locations around Oahu. I think the Nimitz location at Hilo Hatties is the most well-known.

I made it a point to stop at this hot dog joint because... A) I do love hot dogs B) This was probably the only decent food option opened at this time Conveniently located across from a biker/night club. Next time I'm definitely checking out that club because where this hot dog cart/vendor was located, you can clearly notice drunk people all around. This just means one thing to me. THAT NIGHT MUST HAVE BEEN AMAZING. The guy/owner manning the hot dog spot is named Mike I believe. He's quite friendly. But I only came here for one thing...HOT DOGS. I ordered the steak dog which really didn't taste like steak BUT with the Yelp check-in, YES USE YOUR CHECK-IN, I scored FREE PULLED PORK as a topping on the dog. On top of that, I also had the option of adding FRESHLY CHOPPED ONIONS which Mike kept in a portable soda fridge. Fresh? YES, because my breath was kicking afterwards. Thank goodness for Yelp mints that I always have in pocket. Delicious? DUH. The steak didn't really come through but the pulled pork definitely did. Tender, moist, flavorful. The fresh onions gave it a nice overall acidity. Price? $6. Sooooo worth it. Mike is here until 2am or 4am...I believe it is the latter if I remember correctly. I will be back Mike perhaps not as sober as I was the first time. LOL.

Don't try looking for GHHD at 7:30pm on Lewers St, you simply won't find it. If I had double checked at the hours here on Yelp I would have save my boyfriend and I the trouble of looking for it. So we gave up and ate at the Japanese BBQ restaurant on the same street. The minute we got out, I saw the GHHD cart parked right across the street from the Japanese BBQ place. And what did we do? Got a hot dog from the GHHD cart. It was flippin delicious. More delicious than Puka Dog. (How do you eat a hot dog without all the fixin's?) Do not be blinded by fancy sauces.

  • Tia S.

My review is long overdue for this cart. The hot dogs are really tasty and no one here is exaggerating about the garlic sauce. It's addicting and I like my dog drowning in it! Haha! I'd see Mike (the owner) when I worked as a beer brand ambassador occasionally at Moose McGillicuddy's. I'd trade him promo gear for a free dog. WooHoo! The dogs are great, and so is this guy. Mike's a big dude. Got a big smile and big heart, too. I'd see him help keep the peace on Lewers Street when bar goers get rowdy. He's given hot dogs to help people sober up before going home and calls taxis for stranded folks who get separated from their friends. It's not his job, but he does it anyway. That's what you call "living aloha". In a time where the world seems unsafe and the average Joe could lead the next massacre, it's nice to know there are individuals in the world who give a f#ck. Enjoy!

There is one, lone guy working his hot dog stand every night. EVERY NIGHT UNTIL 4AM. What a guy. Having just flown down to Waikiki from California, the first thing I noticed was that practically every native is super nice. However, this guy wins the gold medal of niceness. Every night, he stands outside Moose's (yes, stands!) and serves delicious steak dogs to the hungry, drunk people that stumble out of the club. He even has to deal with the constant, loud pop music coming from there... the only explanation is that he's an avid fan of Carly Rae, or he's able to withstand it by knowing everyone will be clamoring for his steak dogs by the end of the night. Anyways, this was the best steak dog I've ever had. Okay maybe it's the only one, but even compared to the top of the line hot dogs (I'm looking at you, Costco-dog), this one is superb. Okay, maybe that's still an unfair comparison, but hear me out. This guy sells regular steak dogs with nothing on them, with his special garlic sauce, with pulled pork, with BBQ sauce... in addition to any combination of condiments that you would ever want on a steak dog. (sauerkraut fans rejoice). You have to try one with his secret specialty GARLIC SAUCE. So good. And no I wasn't drunk when I had it. Only complaint is that this guy is too nice. He's so nice that I am glad to pay the otherwise pricey $6 for one. But the high price is worth it. And it also stops me from eating 3 at once. I am definitely coming again.

OMG! I never knew what this dude's name was, but I started calling him the "Hotdog Fairy," not because I thought he was gay, but because he always appeared when my boyfriend and I were REALLY drunk and REALLY hungry. There was a while when I thought he didn't exist, a drunken fantasy, and I was sad. Been to Waikiki a few times while I was in the Navy, and all those guys end up at Moose's, so I guess maybe it just took us a while to figure out that that's where he goes, I'm sad to say now that I've figured this out, I'll probably never have a GHHD again, because I'm out and let's face it, a vacation to Hawai'i is expensive :/ So, though I will most likely never again taste the deliciousness of a sirloin dog (and will also probably never know if it's as good sober), I will forever treasure the feeling of awe I always got whenever we ran into the Hotdog Fairy after a night of drinking. Good times.

Go there, now....seriously!!! The dog is the s*it, especially with pastrami. The garlic sauce is something to write home about, plus the sausage is remarkable. Place is a gem and needs to relocate to Newport Beach so that I can frequent it.

Garlic sauce takes the dog up a few notches. Great late night eat especially after a few drinks.

  • Ren L.

I went for a late night snack at this stand, which was conveniently a block away from my hotel. My sister suggested that I get extra garlic sauce on my hot dog, which I ended up doing. Sure, the hot dog was $6, but with the sauce and condiments and nice service, it was definitely worth it. I ended up giving the guy a couple extra dollars for his friendliness. And yes, the dog was freaking amazing. This is one of the few instances where I wish I could give this a 6 out of 5.

The Garlic Sauce= AMAZING!!!! I was on vacation and ended up going to this hot dog stand 3 times in one week! Delicious hot dogs when you are done at the bars = Heaven!!!!

The best hot dog I've ever eaten by far!!

  • Ken N.

That BEAST though! Yes, I was intoxicated so that's probably why it tasted good but who cares. Yes, it's expensive for a hot dog. Who can say No to a steak dog with pulled pork and bacon? Don't know which toppings and sauces to use? Just ask and they can provide suggestions. No mention of cheese on my hot dog but I added it and WOW! Again, I was intoxicated but it was delicious.

    (4)
  • James R.

Oh my.... what a great sandwich. I am originally from the Chicago area so I take my hot dogs pretty serious. Wow what great flavor on the sandwich. A hot dog with a brat and bacon topped with pulled pork. This sandwich can't be beat on this island. My mouth is watering just writing about it!

  • Alton W.

Great customer service. Even greater hotdogs!! I highly suggest getting "The Beast". One of the best hotdogs I've ever had.

  • Krista G.

Great Hawaiian Hot Dog is delicious. It may be slightly expensive for a hot dog, but where else are you going to find something THAT delicious at 4AM?! Or even at 10PM? I understand the reasoning behind the prices and he must be doing something right because sometimes there is a 20 minute wait for a 5 dollar hot dog. We drove out of our way to find the hot dog stand last Sunday because I could not get enough of the tasty goodness. I did not realize this is one of the few days he is closed. It was quite a bummer. Warning: The hot dog is very hot. Be patient or thou shalt burn thy tongue.

  • Emi H.

I remember in my younger (and more slightly intoxicated) days when I'd stumble over to Lewers Street with friends. Starving from a night of dancing and bar hopping, the Great Hawaiian Hot Dog cart was always there waiting for me. Hot dogs like a one night stand are something we all enjoy, but would rather not tell anyone we ever did. I've done this cart more times than I'd like to admit. Please do your best not to judge me because I'm still a good person. I just have little self control when it comes to late night hot dog encounters. Be warned that I have only eaten at the Great Hawaiian Hot Dog cart between the hours of 2 am and 4 am. The hours when as a friend has told me "Nothing good ever happens." She is completely correct in this statement. As other reviewers have written, the garlic sauce here is amazing! It's like hot dog crack and I highly recommend it! I love to eat my hot dog with mustard and relish, but regardless of what types of toppings you prefer, the garlic sauce is a must. I hope you enjoy your Great Hawaiian Hot Dog while intoxicated at 2:30 am and perhaps one day we can swap stories about what a good time we had. Never mind...a lady never tells.

OMG ... I know most of the customers are drunk but were the Yelp people drunk while they were writing their reviews too? I'm not trying to be hater so please don't send me any hate mail ... . I was excited to try this place out when I was walking back to my hotel after a night of raging in Waikiki. I ordered one of the dogs with pastrami and garlic sauce. The dog is nothing special but the garlic sauce is a nice addition. He also has an assortment of toppings so pile them on to get your money's worth. The prices are high but you're in Waikiki late night. It's kind of expected when you have a captive audience. I'd give this place three stars alone just for the owner having to deal with drunk people and helping them get sober. Kudos to you!

  • Briana B.

This is the Hawaiian equivalent of what we call suicide dogs out here in the Bay Area. This hot dog stand is the business. It's open super late for those midnight cravings. Don't forget to check-in on Yelp because you can get free pulled pork or bacon on your hot dog. We ordered the bacon dog and added the pulled pork for free, then topped it with mustard and jalapeños at the recommendation of the gentlemen working the stand. Soooo good! Just as a snack, one hot dog was big enough for my husband and I to share. Check it out, you won't be disappointed!

  • Nicole B.

So this dude is the real deal!!!! Awesome guy! So nice I can't even believe it! And the hot dogs are nothing short of UH-MAZING!!!! For real! Garlic sauce is out of this world!!!!!!

One of the best hot dogs I have ever had. The guy serving them was really nice too. Really big too.

  • Cindy A.

There isn't a closing time for this place ! The hot dogs have a spicy kick to them and they are piping hot! They are the best late night snack but it's a bit pricy for a hot dog.

    (4)
  • Lee H.

In front of the drinking establishment and the owner is chill as hell. Used the yelp deal and got bacon on my hot dog. Condiments are all there for you to splash on. (jalapenos, onions, sriracha?, relish and the regular red and yellow). Didn't get upset stomach or anything eating this right before bed. Walking distance to Waikiki and drinking. Always a plus. Best 'dirty dog' I've had outside of California.

  • Tracey M.

Bacon? Check Garlic sauce? Check Steak hotdog? Check Free fresh toppings (onions, sauerkraut, jalapeno, relish)? Double check! Free slice of bacon OR mound of pulled pork with your yelp check in? HOLY MACARONI! YES! This little stand is located right next to Moose's, so be prepared to be in line with some patrons who might have had a little too much to drink ;p

One of MY FAVORITE hot dog dive ever tried, you HAVE to go to the cart if you're in honolulu! the guy is very friendly and the food is delicious! we got there as soon as he opened up for the night cause he's only there certain days and we went a day prior when he wasn't there, but it was worth coming back for him and trying out the food! trust me, go and try this! you will not regret it!

Hits the spot!! Perfect place in the middle of mediocre food mecca Honolulu. Skip the over priced "fancy" places and hit up this cute little hot dog stand outside McGillycudy's bar. The guy working the stand is beyond sweet and makes wonderful recommendations. GO NOW!

    (4)
  • Mai R.

Awesome hot dog that really hit the spot. Got the beast (pulled pork and bacon) and put almost everything on top. Garlic sauce is very tasty and not overwhelming. Get napkins cause it can get messy. Minus 1 star for hard to find parking. There a lot of taxi in the area and they kind of stare at you when you park in the loading zone but that's where my husband was waiting for me so oh wells.

    (5)
  • Joey H.

Get the beast, it's amazing! Probably the best hot dog you'll ever have. Found this place on yelp and I'm glad I did. I'll be back again!
