I haven't been here in a while but I love this place. This okazuya is the bomb. Yes, the prices have definitely gone up. My four item plate was almost $8 with a side order of spicy ahi for $6. The shiso musubi is my all time favorite. The first time I had it, I was in love. The flavor and aroma of it is just awesome. Their vegetable tempura is huge. I hate when I get vegetable tempera and it's soggy. The ones from this place are crispy, even though it's heavy on the batter. I bit into it and there's a slight crunch. Yay! The eggplant chicken is also good. They make it with some kind of teri sauce and the eggplant just soaks it up. The spicy ahi is a good deal. It was tasty with the right amount of spice to it. The fish was fresh and they gave a decent amount for the price. The only thing that I wasn't too fond of is the fried chicken. The skin was crispy but the meat was dry. It was definitely over fried, but at least it wasn't pink in the middle. That would have been worse.

Love this spot! Their Nori chicken is yummy! They have wide selection to choose from here! They also sell Mochi too! Parking is right out in front or on the street. It can get bit packed but the line moves quickly.

My favorite stop for okazuya in the island. Their chiso musubi is excellent with nori chicken or their friend chicken. I love their fried akule too. Hot dog...I'm a hot dog connoisseur and the plain fried hot dog at Fukuya is a must have on my plate along with their shrimp tempura. Don't forget a small container of their mac salad too! If you're not a fan of mayo, you might be put off by your macaroni's swimming in it but I love it! Okazuya shops are closing all over the island. Thank goodness Fukuya is around! Oh..and catering..they do it too! Check out their catering menu while you stop for some nishime!

Years ago, my brother used to always stop by Fukuya on his way to work to pick up lunch. He loved it so much he ended up dragging my butt there one day and ever since then, it has been one of my favorite okazuya. I love their noodles, shrimp tempura, nori chicken, furikake musubi, pumpkin, tofu burger, etc. So many goodies to pick from to have packed neatly in a styrofoam box. It can serve as your breakfast, lunch, dinner.. I mean Fukuya is great at any time of the day!! The line may be long at times but it moves rather quickly. The big bummer about this place is the parking. The lot is small, the stalls are slightly slanted, etc. If the parking is a bit off putting, you might be lucky to snag a metered stall near by.

Stopped in for some breakfast musubi. Less musubi choices but far better taste than the famed mana bu! Our only regret was in only buying three of them. Bento options also looked tasty

I catered food for 50 people and went down to make all the arrangements for the delivery of the food. Derrick delivered everything on time, even with all that crazy traffic going into Waimanalo on a Saturday afternoon! He was so pleasant. Everyone raved about the food, especially the shoyu pork, mochiko chicken, and the sushi platter! I am so glad someone recommended that I cater from Fukuya.

Prices can get up there if you go a little nuts on the ordering. I mean how could you not though, everything looks so yummy. I've been coming here for the past 10 years and it has always been my favorite okazuya in town. Cleanliness: Fairly clean Customer Service: Could be better. Some more than others. Is a smile so hard to do??? Quality of food: Yummy! I've tried everything. Haven't been disappointed yet. Parking: Small lot for 6 cars or metered street parking. Overall, the food here is fairly good. You basically build your own bento or plate to your liking. The service is alright. Don't expect friendly service, it's a hit or miss depending on who's servicing you. The older Japanese lady with glasses doesn't even crack a smile, she needs to brush up on some customer service skills asap! Other than that, I would recommend this place for yummy bentos.

Please don't shoot the messenger! FUKUYA! What's going on? Hmm. I'm confused. I've been a longtime customer of Fukuya! Is it just me or has the quality dropped, but prices jumped?! I mean I love Okazuya! My Yelp bestie, Heidi P. & I always talk about how her Grandmother filled the bento boxes for my Grandfather and young Dad during the plantation days in Lahaina! Yup, long story, but my "born & raised" family & friends go way back in the history of Okazuya and bentos! Anyways... Hey, Fukuya what's going on? Maybe I'm just spoiled knowing what good Hilo Okazuya is all about. Maybe I'm "too Chang to Hang" as lovely Mahina C. loves to say, but is it just me or am I not enjoying Okazuya here like I used to? Maybe it's just me, but on my last visit it was rather lukewarm... I ordered the following: NORI CHICKEN-Yummy, but seemed a tad pricey? FRIED AHI- Good, but I've had better and when it's cold hmm... TERI-BEEF- Good, but not as soft as I remembered. Had better. CONE SUSHI- Delicious! Probably the best I've had! So juicy! And all the above for a tad under $8! Huh?! I just wanted small-kine snack! Oh well, that's what I get with NO prices posted and ass-u-me-ing everything was like it used to be! Don't get me wrong... I still recommend... FUKUYA! A landmark Okazuya that's been there well before I was born... Always local-friendly to me and has that comfort foods we all crave sometimes, but sadly I wasn't impressed the last time I walked in. Average at best! Maybe it's just me. Maybe I caught them on a bad "cold food" day, Maybe I'm just too picky nowadays.. Whatever. Anytime I use maybe, one too many times, well... Maybe, just maybe Fukaya's not as good as it used to be. Maybe?! OVERALL GRADE: 3.1-STARS! LIVE ALOHA... YELP REVIEW #328

I would eat Fukuya's for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I could. Yum yum yum. Super comforting okazuya food - just like your mother's or your hometown okazuya you knew and loved. The food is always freshly made and has an authentic flavor. If they run out, they always replenish with freshly cooked food from the back. My usuals are: Musubi - shiso, furikake, ume, plain... LOVE THEM ALL. Mochiko Chiken Ahi Burger Hot Dog The service is always ehhh and the service is not that friendly, but the food is good so I don't really care. They expect you to know the exact names of everything and know exactly how many items you want or else they get impatient. With no prices shown, you never know how much you're spending on your oishii food! It's usually reasonable, but don't be surprised if you spend $15 on a plate full of goodies. There are a few stalls for parking in front of the store, if not there is street parking and if you're just running in and out I don't see why you couldn't park at Sushi King's parking lot ;) My go -to okazuya! And seriously, I could eat the shiso musubi errrrrday.

This is a good okazuya, though it's only open certain days and hours of the week. They have quite a few choices and combinations to choose from. Their fried noodles and musubis are great. Wish I could have tried some of those other foods, but hopefully next time I'm in the area, I'll see about their other things.

Was cravings okazuya food & ended up @ Fukuya. The 2 star rating is based on food taste only. Ordered cone sushi, mochiko chicken, nori wrapped chicken and seafood tofu patties. Seafood tofu patties was good! Sorry Fukuya.

Sometimes when you're hungry and undecided on where the heck you want to eat it maybe as simple as looking on your Yelp Mobile App, only to see that a fellow Yelp friend has just checked into Fukuya's!! (Thanks Joy N.). Fukuya Delicatessen & Catering has been in business over 75yrs and still going strong. A good variety, constant great tasty food has made Fukuya's one of the best Deli/Okazuya places in Hawaii. I came on a Sunday Morning to be greeted by friendly smiling faces and assortment of mouth watering food that all wanted to jump into my plate. I've always had a hard time deciding what I want to eat when coming to an Okazuya....How's about EVERYTHING!!! Well two plates later for $17.75 which I thought was a good deal for some "Ono" grindz. I ordered Shio Musubi,Ume Musubi,Boneless Fried Chicken,Ahi Belly,Garlic Chicken,Chow Fun,Hotdog and Pork Eggplant. Everything was exceptionally good, especially the boneless fried chicken, perfectly seasoned and crispy skin..FTW!! *Thanks Fukuya's for being there when I'm hungry! *Hours: Wednesday - Sunday 6:00am - 2:00pm. *Parking stalls in front and on King Street.

This is a great place to pick up delicious local foods such as mochiko chicken, musubis of all kinds, hamburger patria, fish patties, and one of my favorites...nishime and vegetable tempura. They even have homemade mochi and cookies for dessert! The service is always wonderful! Service with a smile and delicious food!

Another gobo and namasu stop. The fried chicken is also huge. Everything is fresh and the portions are generous.

One of my favorite okazuyas! I love having choices. And when I say choices, I mean choices. Fukuya has just that. If anything they have too many choices, as I often end up with way more than I can eat....usually leaving with at least two full plates for myself alone. And they sell the cutest mochis....pretty colors, and sometimes wrapped in-theme for events such as girls day! Mind you, I also consider myself to be quite spoiled when it comes to okazuya fare, since my beloved grandma used to make me the best sweet egg rolls, mini spam musubis, and hash patties for my home lunches when I was in elementary school. So I have very high standards for okazuya offerings. Fukuya warms my heart because all the little old ladies who work there remind me of my grandma. I just love walking in and getting greeted by all of them...they make you feel so welcomed and they are just so sweet. You can tell how much love goes into every single item they set out. I wish I could write a detailed list of all of their menu items, but you'll just have to go down and see it all for yourself. Trust me, you'll be so glad that you did. #1 tip: GO EARLY so you can get first dibs on everything! #2 tip: I love their shirae...I get it to-go in the 8 oz container.

I've been coming here for years and the food is always consistent. My usual plate consists of 2 shiso musubi's, chow fun, fried fish, fried chicken, vegetable tempura, potato/mac salad. Can you tell that I love fried foods? They have a wide variety of choices so your bill can easily add up over the $10 mark if you are really hungry. The place is always clean but the biggest challenge is parking your car in the rather tight parking spaces! Ah, not to worry, once you have done it, it will be well worth it! Your tummy will thank you for it!

Overview: I've been coming to Fukuya since October 2013 and been a fan since. Open early in the morning, I usually came here if I was craving their nori wrapped chicken ($1.20 or so) and hot dog sushi rolls ($4.75). *Note: If you come early enough, you are more likely to get their sushi rolls which they run out really fast along with their specialty nori chicken. Service: When I first came here, I didn't know what to get, but the ladies helped me a lot and each time I visited them, they were extremely friendly to me. Food: I tried the following items: 1) Shio Musubi (2 stars): I didn't care much about the texture or taste, it felt bitter and like shredded pieces of bitter chewy material was on the musubi. 2) Spam Musubi (3 stars): It was an okay Spam musubi--nothing bad or wrong, the seasoning was okay and you could tell that it was fresh. 3) Ume Musubi (3 stars): It tasted bland and had little salt seasoning. I really don't care about ume or plum so I didn't really enjoy tasting it. 4) Assorted mochi (4 stars): I loved their peanut butter flavored mochi, didn't care much about their lime bean mochi because it tasted odd. 5) Mochiko Chicken (4 stars): My boyfriend loves their mochiko chicken because it's sweet and moist. I prefer their Nori Chicken more because it has this extra crunch and salt from the nori which is wrapped around the chicken. Yet I do admit, they give a lot of Mochiko Chicken when you buy it so it's a good bang for the buck. 6) Cone Sushi (3 stars): Their sushi is made fresh and it was flavored alright, I felt satisfied, but I wouldn't order this again because of the average experience. 7) Misoyaki Butterfish (5 stars): This was so good, it tasted like my Mom's homemade Misoyaki Butterfish. The only bad thing I have against this is it's like $2 for this small piece of butterfish. 8) Hot Dog (4 stars): The hot dog was cooked perfectly and I feel like you can't fail on cooking a hot dog. I would probably get this again since I think it was one of the cheapest things on the menu 9) Fish Cake (2 stars): I didn't enjoy this experience and would not get it again. 10) Shrimp Tempura (3 stars): The shrimp tempura was good, but on the average side. 11) Ham (3 stars): The ham was okay, it wasn't a memorable experience, it was average. I was happy I got it, but wouldn't get it again. 12) Potato/Hashed brown (3 stars): The experience was okay, it wasn't the worst, but I would have considered it better than their fish cakes. 13) Sushi (Doesn't include the sushi they sell as a roll) (3 stars): Their sushi is okay, it wasn't a memorable experience and had an average quality. 14) Chicken roll (2 stars) I didn't like their chicken roll as much as their hot dog roll or maki because the chicken lacked moisture and felt dry to me. Their was partial seasoning of furikake, but it was more on the bland and dry side. 15) Hot dog maki (5 stars): I love this and it tasted perfectly. The hot dog has this salty taste which goes well with the furikake, rice, and nori. Overall it is a beautiful combination and I truly recommend people to get this, but come early if you want it! 16) Nori Chicken (5 stars): I love their Nori Chicken, which is moist, tasty, and crunchy. It is basically a deep fried chicken wrapped with nori, but the combination of fried chicken that is moist and seasoned well with the crunchy texture of the nori is just heaven. Conclusion: Overall, the food and service is outstanding. The prices for the food does add up, but you can get away with a substantial meal for $5 if you watch what you get. I truly recommend Fukuya to anyone, but be warned if you want to get all the good food, be prepared to come at 6 am or 6:30 am when it first opens or else you miss out on all the good food.

Five stars. Ahh, I got my quick fix of okazu foods for a quick breakfast. Yum! The fried chicken, crab cake, cone sushi, and orange passion drink. All winnahs! The fried chicken has a great flavor. Even when cold, it's still all good! The crab cake is flavorful and delicious. Unsure if they use real crab, but tasty nonetheless. The cone sushi is one of the best old fashioned tasting ones. Hard to come by now days. Of course, the orange passion drink is always sweet and refreshing. As always. They do have a large variety of okazuya foods. A rarity in Honolulu now days. The parking lot is quite small, but somehow always able to find somewhere to park, be it street or in their lot. Don't think can park next door, got one security guard. It's not for everyone, but if you want a nostalgic flavor and not expecting anything fancy, but good old fashioned food, this is the place for you. Highly recommend!

Ever since Ebisu closed, I have been on the hunt for a really tasty restaurant to satisfy my okazuya cravings. I jumped on yelp, searching for okazuyas in Honolulu, and after trying multiple okazuyas on island, Fukuya has been the best. Some highlights: - PARKING: they have a few stalls in front and street parking. Considering that a typical transaction will be no longer than 15-20 minutes, stalls can open up quickly. - BEEF TERIYAKI: the best beef teriyaki I've had in awhile. Super tender (not your typical tough, could be jerky, beef teriyaki) and flavorful; it's not too sweet or salty. - SHISO MUSUBI: don't let the super purple coloration fool you, it's not too salty or pungent yet still captures the unique flavor of shiso. Definitely not the typical shiso you buy at the store. - VEGETABLE TEMPURA: not too much of that doughy batter. It still has some crunch without it being too oily. One of the best mixed vegetable tempura I've had. I've also had their mochiko chicken (tasty and chewy), garlic chicken (bite-sized pieces that are flavorful and not oily), furikake musubi, corned beef hash, chow funn (chewy, not overly moist/wet and none of the noodles are dry/crunchy), and their mochi. All of their food I've tried is pretty good, but the ones listed above ate my favorites and the reason why I come back. Just keep in mind some things: - they can be a bit pricey, but I'm willing to pay for good okazuya food. - their selection changes so you may not find the item you're looking for. I'm sure the basics, like shiso musubi and tempura will always be there, but today they had mochiko chicken but not their garlic chicken.

I have never been to a shop like this! Had the purple rice ball- it was vinegary and delicious, a hamburger patty, fried chicken, crab cake, tofu noodles. Wasn't a big fan of the crab cake. Overall it was a nice variety and the service was so great- the ladies there were friendly and patient! I recommend you try it for a picnic! Only docked a point cuz i wish my food was hotter. We paid about $10 for 4-5 items.

I am the (self-proclaimed) #1 connoisseur of Okazuya in Hawaii. And for me, Fukuya is at the top of the list. Great food, cleanliness, and convenience are why I love these guys. Okazu-ya translated into English means choose only what you want Japanese restaurant. Yeah, I made that up, but it could be true. Maybe. But, I love the idea of only buying what you want. So you're able to put exactly what you want in your plate, and nothing else. I always get the same thing. Shiso musubi, mochiko chicken, nishime, shoyu pork, chow fun, and a meatball or hot dog. Perfection. I only started eating shiso musubis when I first started coming here about 5-6 years ago. Im addicted to the purple, salty, sourish coating around the musubis. It's so good! Mochiko chicken, when straight from the fryer is crisp and hot and eaten very quickly. Though, because it's an Okazuya, sometimes it sits for a little while and its not hot when you eat it. It's still good. The nishime, with the bamboo, radish, carrot and chicken, is not too salty, and not too bland, but jusss right. The shoyu pork is also very good. I remember eating at Morimotos and eating the pork there. It came as one piece and I swear it tasted just like the Fukuya one. Except that it was like $25 for one piece or some outrageous price. I remember thinking, I prefer the Fukuya one to this! Fo'Real! Love the fact that it's always clean in there. The serving area and utensils are always shiny and clean. Or at least it seems that way, which is good enough for me. Because of my germophobia, this is a huge factor in me coming here. Even better it's minutes away from my house. Super convenient. Can't be beat. The only drawbacks are that when it's crowded, the parking lot fills up real quick and you have to get creative with your parking space. Because I usually go before school starts, that's never a problem for me. And of all the okazuya places, this place is the most expensive. Not by much, but I usually spend the most here. Don't get me wrong, it's worth it. I'm hoping that if I go there enough, they'll name my combo bento the "Shiso Higa Special!" Boom

  • Shelly B.

The reason for the two stars is the unwelcoming customer service. It was my first time coming here and I wasn't too sure how to order. I was given no guidance on how to order, and the women taking my order got impatient and acted like I was a huge inconvenience. I guess they just expect you to know which plate to get and how much everything is. The low rating only applies to the service. Otherwise I thought the food was pretty good. I'm a fan of okazu and they had all the things I like- potato hash, nori chicken, tempura, suhi, etc. Like everyone else is saying, the shiso musubi is a must try, however, the less than stellar service makes me hesitant to go back.

When ever I am awake early enough I come here for breakfast because I know it will be the perfect meal to keep me full. Not to mention I also buy my lunch at the same time I buy my breakfast.

One of the best things about having Honolulu as home base is coming here to eat. Parking is a pain, and the line can get long, but boy is it worth it. Make sure you come early if you want to maximize your options of food to pick. Once things run out they dont always restock. The idea here is ala carte choose-your-own japanese plate lunch. Some of the food is japanese with an island flavor. They charge per item and everything is sooooo good. Okazuya is my favorite and there are less and less of these in Hawaii nowadays. I reminds of me growing up here. This esp a great thing to take to eat at the beach! Highly recommended. Takeout only- no eat in.

I don't like that the prices are too high for some items and there is something missing about their taste in their foods. The workers are helpful but when it gets busy, they tend to make some mistakes. Okazuya type restaurants are slowly disappearing and choices are very limited.

I love places where I can control the amount of food that I buy, and Fukuya is one of them. You can create your own plate lunch with any combination of food items. Chow mein, chow fun, musubi, fish, mochiko chicken, shoyu chicken, nori chicken, assorted tempura, and all other kinds of Japanese food items. They also sell rolls of sushi - regular futomaki and their infamous bbq chicken or bbq rolls. Those sell out fast so if you want those rolls, be sure to come early (they open at 6 a.m.!). These are perfect to take on the airplane. The food is a little pricy (noodles, one piece of fish and one piece of mochiko chicken came out to around $5.50), but it was the perfect size for my lunch and the food was delicious. They also offer catering services. Remember - they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. 31 Yelps Challenge: #1/31

I had been here many times growing up in the 808, but only reviewed this place now. Yup, I'm slacking. All the food is prepared daily. You basically create your own plate lunch here, with each item having a set price. Thus, the final price depends on what you choose and how much you get. I enjoyed the juicy, flavorful ahi burger here. The crabcake was also a big hit. Can't go wrong with the musubi, cone sushi, and shoyu chicken. Note that this place only has maybe five parking stalls in front of the building. You could try to briefly park next door if there's spaces, although I'm not sure if they'd tow you. Maybe not as bad if you go early in the morning...? Solid food and reasonable prices. I recommend that you arrive early. They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

  • Mindy D.

It's A-Ok. There's lots to chose from for your "build your own plate lunch". The items are inexpensive but can quickly add up if you go outta control. The food is never warm though. I don't know how long they've been sitting out because food is always cold when I dig in. I'd assume the turnaround is fast since the small shop is always filled with hungry customers, but who knows! I go here because my boyfriend insists and it's convenient for when we go to the beach. However, I don't ever crave anything from here and definitely wouldn't go out of my way for it. The parking lot is ridiculously small and is often full, so parking is difficult. They accept both cash and credit cards (not sure if there is a minimum purchased requirement).

  • Bobby K.

I will be generous and give them 4 stars for the food alone. In my opinion, it's one of the better okazu-ya on Oahu. The food is cleaner tasting, others, such as Gulick, can be overly greasy/oily. As in all okazu, it's pricey for the amount of food you can, but it is what it is when it comes to eating okazu. If you're in the area and want to eat okazu, this is the place to stop.

  • Kiana O.

Love okazuya! Items do add up though, but service is good and quality of food is excellent! I go early in the morning so that way I have many items to choose from! I especially enjoy the Nori chicken! Their namasu is good too!

One of my more favorite Okazuya places to grab some grub. Whether I'm hungry for a snack, breakfast, or lunch, I'm always down for some tasty Okazuya from Fukuya. yelp.com/biz_photos/tMQc… Some of my regulars: Mochiko chicken Shiso musubi Hash Nishime Gobo Shoyu Pork Tofu & Eggplant Hot Dog Prices aren't displayed, so it's easy to get carried away... You'll end up with a $12 plate before you know it. I've done it more than a few times. Hah. I suggest going early to ensure the absolute best selection / variety of food. Service isn't the friendliest, but that's okay. All I really want is for them to give me a fair-heaping serving of food. Hehe. For the most part, the line moves relatively slow... Especially if you happen to be in line behind really hungry, indecisive, or "generous" people. The parking lot is mini, so cross your fingers for a stall. The lot fills up quickly and people are maniacs when it's busy/full. I am a fan. Yelp 365 - #312/365

I love sleeping in. But I hate deciding what to eat when I wake up because everywhere stops serving breakfast between 10am-10:30am.... but not here!! I love their teriyaki meatballs and mochiko chicken. Everything else there is alright. But I still yet have so many items that I need to try. There's so many items in there.. whenever I want to add more to my plate, I notice that my plate is already full. :( So I usually leave without getting to try everything I want since I can't finish it all and I don't wanna look like a fatty. The items are decently priced. We got a little less than 2 plates which turned out to be $16. $16 for 2 people! What a deal! The parking lot is extremely small. But I usually park in the Sushi King parking lot.. even though we're not supposed to. But who cares, it only takes about 15 minutes at most to get your food (yes, even when there's a long line). Whenever there's Japanese holidays, they also sell specialty items. We went on Boy's Day, which was a few days ago, and they were selling mochi with some other little Boy's Day goodies. There's not that many Okazuyas around, but I'd like to try the others too. If anyone has any good recommendations, let me know! :) **The earlier you go, the better. They usually run out of food fast!

This okazuya eatery has stood the test of time. I am a fan of this place! Okazuya is make your own bento, so just pick musubi, noodles, veggies, and protein of your choice and that's it! Credit cards accepted. PARKING: Ugh, so hard to make that left turn on a busy 4-lane street into a teeny tiny parking lot. My tip, as always, go early before people start crowding in to get their breakfast/lunch for the day. SERVICE: Sometimes you have your no-nonsense aunties who act like the soup nazi, but will probably have no idea what/who that is. Other times the service is okay. Just don't spend too much time being indecisive because there's usually a line behind you, and people wanna eat! FOOD: - I always get a couple of nori musubi, the inari sushi is also good. They have an assortment of maki sushi that I have yet to try. Fried noodles are good. - I love their miso butterfish even though it's $3.75 for one tiny piece. -Chicken! So many different kinds to choose from! Nori chicken, sooo good! Fried chicken, sooo good! Mochiko, tofu chicken, the list goes on. There's no labels, so you just gotta ask what is what. -Kinpura gobo: a root veg with carrot in a semi spicy sauce, is a keeper. -Hijiki: seasoned seaweed, a personal fave! I buy a whole styrofoam box full of food, which comes out to $16, but that's okay, it's my breakfast AND lunch! :D

Upping my count to three,, food seems more consistent now days, and with the lack of okazus not much to choose from in town area, my experience is you need to find what you like here and just order that, some things are way to salty or bland and it consistently is the same, find what you like, order it, eat it Not bad

Fukuya is my FAVORITE Okazuya place. They always have a wide selection of food. I'm always greeted with a friendly smile and the wait is short even with their long brunch line. The food is always delicious. I love their mochiko chicken, fried chicken, potato hash, chow fun, vegetable tempura, hot dog, sweet potato tempura, chicken long rice, and and...there are soo much more selection that I can't name it all. Sometimes I crave Fukuya and would take a drive from my work in Downtown to pick up lunch.

Food pretty good BUT, it's overpriced. 3 vege items came out to $5.40. I didn't realize, cause there's no pricing, that a nishime, tofu, and konbu would be so $$$. I usually go to the other Okazu restaurants but saw this one on King st. One word, overpriced. St. Louis Deli is good and cheap, but runs out by lunch........

I love okazuyas because I'm all about variety! Fukuya is my favorite!!! I'll take a shiso musubi, some chow fun, a potato hash, one piece shrimp tempura, some shoyu pork, mochiko chicken, takuan, and namasu. Oh wait, can I also add a butterfish, nishime, crab cake, teri meatballs, and garlic chicken? While you're at it, throw in some croquette, gobo, vegetable tempura, and a spam musubi. What's my damage? $50!!!!! Just kidding, but maybe not. Doesn't matter, it's worth every penny. Early bird catches the worm. Open Wednesday-Sunday from 6-2pm.

Up until this wekeend, I've really only had Fukuya's sushi (I love their futomaki & teri beef rolls!). I guess I was always turned off by the miniscule parking lot, and by the fact that they're very popular - neither of which will deter me from coming back. The main reason is because I would normally go to my favorite okazuya, St. Louis Delicatessen....which happened to be closed, and so Fukuya became my second choice for lunch. There was a line (of course), and it took about 10 minutes before I could order. This was totally fine by me - it took forever to decide what I wanted. If you love okazuya, your eyes & stomach are in for a treat....they have it all! I was starving, and by the time I finished choosing, my plate ending up costing $9.53! yelp.com/biz_photos/tMQc… Granted, it was a LOT of food.....for most people. I was still able to finish it in one sitting by myself o_O SHISO MUSUBI, $2.30 Ohhh savory shiso goodness! One of my favorite things in the plate. INARI (CONE SUSHI), $2.30 Okay but very small compared to what you can get at St Louis Delicatessen. At this price I'd opt for another shiso musubi next time. AHI PATTY, $2.25 MMM, so delicious! You can feel like you're eating a real burger while being able to think of it as "healthy", since it's made of ahi. TERI MEATBALL, $0.60 It was good, but could have used more teriyaki flavor. HASH, $0.95 I will not get this ever, ever again. I could hardly even tell there was any corned beef in this potato patty. And it was stone COLD :( CHOW FUNN, $2.00 I love me some fat noodles! Especially when they're not oily or too salty. NAMASU, $1.00 Didn't have very much taste. The carrots are cut into cute flower shapes though! There was so much more that I wanted to try! It was one of those times I wish I could have gotten one of everything. It's a good thing I didn't though, because Fukuya is definitely more expensive than other okazuyas, I'd say about $2-$3 more per plate.....thankfully, they accept Visa & MC - your total can add up very quickly when your eyes are larger than your stomach! Fukuya also caters (and delivers!); I've used them for work meetings. They were very easy to work with over the phone when placing the order, and pleasant too. On the day of the delivery, they were punctual, organized, and made sure we were satisfied with the order. Highly recommended.

WHAT IS OKAZU? It means side dish in Japanese. Its hard to find good Japanese Okazu these days, It almost seems as if a lot of old time restaurants have closed down. Fakuya has been opened over 30 years now since I was a kid. And this family, hole in the wall business still seems to be booming and is as great as ever! Their side dishes are pretty standard to any Okazu restaurant - noodles, hash, chicken (mochiko, shoyu, nori), tempura, and a variety of traditional assortments for older japanese families. Parking is a little tight. But if you can't park in front of the restaurant, just park in the lot right next to the University complex - its free. Otherwise, if you haven't tried this location, are looking for a good okazu restaurant, or haven't tried okazu before - I'd definitely recommend Fukuya! :)

I LOVE FUKUYAS! My friendly neighborhood okazuya, the gold standard that everyone is measured by! You've got your must have old favorites like the mochiko chicken & vegetable tempura. Fukuyas also dabbles with new things to try like their mochi & boiled peanuts. Great place to pick up a little something for work or the beach. The parking lot is small, but it cycles pretty quick. Most times I'll just walk there.

I love fukuya, maybe a bit too much. It was the perfect last lunch before I headed to HNL and (un)fortunately I wanted to get as much bits of home as I could in my tummy before I left da aina... resulting in me getting way too much food. Fukuya was the perfect way to say goodbye. My lunch cost me $12 (but then again, I ordered too much though). MUST HAVES: Mochiko chicken!!! (so crisp on the outside and so tender) FURIKAKE/SHISO MUSUBI Inari Gobo- it's a little spicy! Nishime (gotta love the crispy turnip) Veggie Tempura Crab cake The Teri Ahi was okay, I probably wouldn't get it again. I also probably shouldn't have gotten a hot dog, but shoyu hot dogs just call my name. My mom also likes the cucumber namasu, but since I hate cucumbers I can't say that I've even tried it. If you come around 12 you're gonna run into the lunch crowd... we were lucky we just missed it at 1130. The line was building up behind us though, phew! Don't be a fatty like me... watch out because $12 is a bit steep, but it was delicious! They also have set bentos that are probably more cost efficient if you like everything in it. Goodbye HI, I will miss you greatly and all your delicious okazuya (from Fukuya!)

Stopped off at Fukuya to grab breakfast and lunch for work today (I can never get sick of this place). I was stoked to be next in line with the cool lady (tall Japanese lady with glasses and long ponytail). She's always generous and even takes the time to select you the best pieces of fried chicken. She was generous with my plate today, I got a few extra pieces of mochiko chicken and char siu! yelp.com/biz_photos/tMQc… Got my usual Hot Dog Roll ($4.25): Hot dog and spam are rolled up with furikake rice. Simple and tasty. They also have it in chicken, bbq beef (my other favorite) and the regular maki sushi roll. yelp.com/biz_photos/tMQc… Teri Beef/BBQ Maki Roll ($4.75): Teri beef, spam and furikake in one delicious bite, what's not to love?! yelp.com/biz_photos/tMQc… Shiso Musubi ($1.10): Sweet-salty goodness. Rice is perfectly cooked and rolled in red shiso powder (what you get when red japanese basil is pickled with umeboshi plums, then dried). It's so simple but so tasty. You can tell from my other take-out pic that I love this stuff! yelp.com/biz_photos/tMQc… Char Siu Chicken ( $2.00): I happened to stop by on a day when their char siu chicken and teriyaki chicken made it's debut. According to my cool server, they never know what the cook will put out. He just happened to make these two chicken items that morning. The chicken was moist and tender. It's didn't seem like it was marinated long bc the flavors weren't as intense as other places I've eaten at. It was tasty though! Tofu Burger ($0.85) This can be a hit or miss sometimes when the burger is too sweet or mushy. But today it was perfectly cooked and delicious! FYI, they put tuna and green onions in their tofu patty.

There was so much to choose from it was a bit overwhelming...good thing I had already made a list of things I wanted to order based on yelp reviews so I was prepared! Make sure to try the Shiso musubi it was sooooo good. Also, try to get here early because they start to run out of stuff! The teri-meatballs and mochiko chicken were also good. I was a little disappointed in the chow fun because it wasn't the typical okazu noodles it was more like chinese chow fun.

Japanese home cooking even if your mother never cooked like this. I like it because it is tasty and not greasy. Lots of regulars come in more than once a week!

I see this delicatessen near the busy University Avenue area on South King, near Glazier's Coffee and the 7-Eleven during the morning rush hour every day since I can remember. And so, I made it a point to get up earlier than normal, just to stop by on my way to work and try this place, so I did today, 07/09/12 and it was good. This place has limited parking, so it was good for me to take da bus down, just in case there was a mad rush during the morning. I read a few yelp reviews before making my decision - most notably Kim M and Emi H, which gave me the most insight on what to expect. Just like any other local delicatessen around Oahu, Fukuya is a small mom and pop operation and it feels good to patronize small businesses like these, because it's hard entreprenural spirit is at work here and we should all help. It ain't easy. The only problem for this place is that, the prices are not displayed or is readily available. I'm not sure if that's due to lack of trying or a genius business strategy that has given them the upper hand in their business. You can easily spend more than you want here, and probably that's what they are counting on. I've done the overbuying at times in other businesses, so it's okay I guess to help them. There was a small line when I was there at about 6:30am, and business was pretty brisk. I would assume that it can get crowded as the day went on, but at this particular day, I was surprised that the lines were short - shorter than normal. The service wasn't that pleasant, since they tended to be more gruff than anything else. The line did move generally slow, but I didn't mind, since I had the time to waste - in a way. I didn't mind the service, so much - just as long as the food was good and the taste was expected to be nothing short of great to amazing. Nothing like amazing breakfast food on your plate to start the work day. I was pleasantly surprised and they gave me a good sized helping. I guessed they looked at me and knew that I needed more food or something. This place reminded me a bit of Mitsuba delicatessen where everything is basically ala carte and you pay based on that. No set prices, but you get what you pay for. The recommendation of getting there early enough could not be stressed enough. I probably got there when there was probably a flood of people earlier than me, so they needed to make more or something. I myself enjoyed the mochiko chicken, the tofu & eggplant, the assorted musubi. While the taste I thought was above average, the overall experience could have been better. It is what it is and you just got to tolerate that aspect of it. I'll be back, if I get up early enough and remember to stop by here, instead of going to Mitsuken or Mitsuba on North School Street. Support local! B

Whether you're having a picnic, a potluck, or just getting lunch/breakfast for yourself, this Okazuya is a great place to get the food. Get here early and you'll be one of the lucky ones to pick up the bi bim bap maki sushi. They run out of this one quickly. If you're not so lucky they still have plenty of things like the Shiso musubi, chow fun, pork hash patties, ebi fry, mochiko chicken, nishime, hot dog, etc. They charge you by weight so things can really add up. Watch yourself! I noticed that the starches, the noodles especially, can put you back at least $2! So keep that in mind when you are ordering here!

Since Ebisu's went out of business a couple years ago :( the average quality of okazuya food on the island went down exponentially. Nowadays, people in town pretty much have Fukuya or Gulick to choose from. Gulick is for locals who want plate lunch style food--big portions, middling quality, expensive. I would say that Fukuya trends towards an older crowd, probably because they appreciate traditional food preparation more than younger generations. Personally, the traditional aspect does impact my bias towards Fukuya, but taste does, as well, and in that respect, Gulick can't compete. Fukuya's flavors are deeper and more robust, whereas Gulick's are generically Asian (teriyaki, soy sauce, furikake). The parking situation is a little frustrating at Fukuya, but the first bite always reaffirms my belief that it's so worth the wait!

Decent selection of a la carte dishes to choose from, but nothing that tasted all too spectacular. Also my beef about places like this is that most of the food is just lukewarm as it has been sitting out for a while. Rice also comes only in the form of Onigiri. Shouldn't rice be free? I think the price is a little too pricey for basically a "pick your own" bento. I ended up paying $12 for a bento today @.@

Best okazuya ever! My parents can't believe that I didn't hear about this place sooner because according to them, this place has been here forever. I live right down the street and Fukuya is a gem! Service here is nice and most of the workers are very welcoming. My boyfriend and I must go here at least once a week for lunch. They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so don't go then because you'll be disappointed when arriving to the CLOSED sign. I am not a fan of shiso, but I had to try the shiso musubi after hearing all the rave and now I don't ever get a plate without it. Other loves: teri meatballs, furikake chicken, tofu & chicken, garlic chicken, mochiko chicken, and the ahi patty. I could go on and on about this place, but just get off your butt and go find out for yourself!

HORRIBLE PARKING! There's only aorund 5 stalls. T__T Got here at around 7 and they ran out of my favorite chow fun D: They were making a new batch, but i had to rush out to work. I got the furikake musubi, fried akule, vegetable tempura, and chicken nori. Total: ~$7. Little pricey but the food is sooo good.

Fukuya, what happened? I will admit the food consistency is still there, but honestly why must you be so cheap on the portions? you give me two tiny pieces of mochiko chicken for 2 dollars, really?? my plate i paid a total of just under 15 dollars...makes me sad. your food is good, but im sorry im not going broke for you.

Yummy food if you're looking for a quick take out place. They do everything bento box style and it is also ala carte cafeteria style so you pick your salad, musubi, sides, etc. Do try their croquette, burger patty, mochiko chicken, tempura, and chow fun! The line does get long so do expect to be patient here. Surely is well worth the wait. :)

I'm no expert when it comes to okazuya but Fukuya has become my go-to spot for okazuya! So what exactly is okazuya? Well whenever I have to explain it to my out-of-state or "fail Asian" friends I describe it as the an Asian place that sells carry out foods and redefines the infamous motto "Have it your way." Fukuya has tons of local Japanese favorites such as shiso musubis, gobo, inari, tempura, etc. Even if you don't like Japanese food they have teri meatballs, mochiko chicken, tofu burgers, and shoyu hotdogs (just to name a few). But what I love about Fukuya is that it's a cheap brunch or lunch! My typical take-out plate usually hits around $8 or less yelp.com/biz_photos/tMQc… ! But it all depends on what you get! Parking can be a little tricky due to the limited amount of parking in front of Fukuya, but you can usually park next door and run in and out of Fukuya before anyone even notices! The only downside is that I have yet to find the perfect time to go to Fukuya. The store opens early in the morning and closes at 2 but if you go too early you hit traffic or the long lines. But if you go after 12 they may run out of certain food. But when you're on the go and unable to make lunch Fukuya is here to save the day!

Purple Wednesday! It's no ordinary hump day but one marked by the doors opening at Fukuya and the unveiling of their famous purple shiso musubi! I confess, my awkward teenage years were anything but dull. At one point, I had a brief tho intense fixation on all things purple. Head-to-toe purple was quite a sight but when it came to satisfying my purple cravings, there were no shiso anything to be had in the land of the 49ers. Back on S.King Street, I am speed walking in my Lucky Brand platforms to Shisoland. Ignoring tempting distractions along the way - Da Spot's Moroccan Chicken, Down to Earth's Blueberry Spelt Muffin, Nijiya's Salmon Nori Bento, and that new Tea Shop (huh? no time to look) - I make it to Fukuya's doorstep in a record 12 minutes time. I get my hands on not one but two purple triangles then plan my mini plate around them by adding some mochiko chicken, shoyu chicken and crunchy namasu. It's harmony. The salty sweet tartness of the shiso marry well with the chicken and play off nicely to the tangy cucumbers. Near $7 later, I am trekking back to the office with my treat all the while thinking where's that purple flying carpet when you need one?! My next quest is clear - find a lipstick to match the purple shiso.

I ordered chichi dango for Girl's Day. I made a change to the pick up of the order...2-3 days ahead of the initially scheduled pick up date. When I picked up my order I ended up paying for the order that was on the original pick up date AND the order that I picked up that day. Please note that I only left with ONE order of chichi dango....even tho' I gave sufficient notice....AND paid for TWO orders of chichi dango. I have NEVER gone back and never will - they should take responsibility for their own employee errors.

Love Fukuyas! If you are looking for okazuya type food, this is the place to come check out. They have a great spread...potato hash, tempuras, noodles, chicken, hot dog, hamburger, crab cakes, salads...i could go on and on. They even sell cookies and mochi to satisfy your sweet tooth. But most of all they have musubis...the best by far being the Shiso....soooo gooood! It's happiness in a rice ball...sweet salty ume yumminess! If you've never had one...go get one now! Service is pretty good. Parking sucks...thank god i can just walk there (and hit up Glazer's at the same time ^.^). They're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. And they're open only til 2 pm the rest of the week. Fukuyas is definitely winners...did i mention the Shiso???

My mother has been bringing me food from here forever, but I finally had the opportunity to see what the hype was about. I tried a bunch of things: Inari cucumber namasu miso butterfish vegetable/potato croquette vegetable tempura mochiko chicken pumpkin nishime I wasnt a huge fan of the cucumber namasu....It was too gingery for me. I really liked the butterfish. Next time I come, I think I'll just get some rice and butterfish :) The fried foods are all very greasy annnnd cold....not my fav, but the flavor is def there. I really like their croquettes and veg tempura. Everything else was just alright. I really like the pick-and-choose style of this deli with everything in small portions

I LOVE FUKUYA'S! Best shiso musubi of my life! Not too sweet, not too salty but jusssss right. Pairs extremely well with the fishcake and veggie egg omelette and a hash patty. There's also the other standard okazuya fare like various forms of chicken (fried, mochiko, shoyu), miso buttahfish, tempura, and meatballs. To date, I haven't ever had a bad meal from here, no matter what I picked. Food sells out pretty quickly so if you would like to put something on hold, call it in!

Fukuya. That's all you need to say to me and I start salivating!!! Five things that I MUST have in my plate... shiso/chiso musubi, mochiko chicken, miso butterfish, potato hash and mac salad. Yes I know it's a carb overload, but those are my favorites!!!! The ladies behind the counter are very nice, and efficient. I also love that they have their radio on 96.3 so that I can hear traffic updates on weekday mornings. Lol.

Onolicious food, but manini (small) portions & expensive enough to make you wanna start preparing da stuff at your own hale (house). I've come here several times over the years & there wasn't enough substance to reel me in to wanna return back. Now, when I get cravings for okazuya, I just wait until my annual return to da Big Island and sojourn to Hilo Lunch Shop.

So many people love this place. I am perplexed! I stopped by and realized that this place is like a cafeteria. All the food just sits out all day and you pay for what you order. We ordered the chow main, the furikake rice, an eggroll, a crab cake and some mochiko chicken. Everything was very sub-par. Nothing stood out. How do people give this place 5 stars???

I always stop by Fukuya Okazuya whenever I go to the post office in the morning. It's the next best thing to having your Obachan (grandmother) wake up in the morning and make you your favorite foods. I've tried to do this to my Obachan but she refuses to get up. Geez Obachan, I know you're 86 but you're so lazy! (joking) I like to get tried and true okazuya favorites like fried chicken, musubi, teriyaki meatballs, namasu, gobo and nishime. A plate will run you around $8-$10 but it's a heck of a lot faster than making everything yourself at home. I'm not sure why people complain about okazuya prices because I'll pay anything to eat some local comfort food. You'll also have to buy some Fukuya cookies as well because they are homemade and totally yummy! I like that they're small and two bite sized. Makes great gifts during Christmas time or you can give to a skinny friend that you want to make a little fatter. You know you've got one! The days of okazuya are numbered as more Mom & Pops are shutting down because of high lease rents or simply because they are getting old and no one wants to take over the business. In the end, Fukuya Okazuya seems like its going to stand the test of time!

Japanese Okazuya places are slowly disappearing as big business rolls in and finances get hard. Fukuya has been a staple for me for lunch for many years. The shiso musubi is tasty and well made. The different dishes available for choosing are all great, I have never had a bad choice. The sweet potato tempura is always sweet, crisp on the outside, and the inside is soft. The mochiko chicken is crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. I could go on and on about all the different dishes that you can get and that I have had, but in summary they are all great. I would go with the box and ala carte items to get all the different things that catch your eye and appetite.

Live a couple streets down from here and have tried this place a couple times. Tried to see what all the hype was about but i still can't figure it out. Its decent but nothing special , I still drive to Nuuanu if i'm craving food like this. Prices are cheaper here compared to other Okazu's around Oahu which is awesome! the food fills you up so i don't mind stopping by here once in a while

Expensive, unhealthy, tricky parking, and often less than friendly service...these usually make for a very poor ratings (okay, maybe not the "unhealthy" thing). But the food - oh, the food - compensates for all of those negatives. Furikake musubi, chow funn, every variety of hash and tempura, nori chicken, gobo - sososo good. Fukuya is very close to where I work. Thank goodness that I'm usually running "just on time" or else I would stop here to buy myself lunch every morning and destroy the already sad states of my waistline and wallet.

This is my go to lunch spot! the food is so authentic and so amazing. The hot dog sushi is my favorite! Their food is all fresh and who doesn't love Japanese good? beware though because they do run out quick. By 1pm they are almost all out of everything. the prices are so reasonable and their catering is made on the day so it's super fresh! Only open until 2 but it's a must to stop by!

OVERALL RATING = 9 / 10 The EATS: Veggie Croquette = 10 Inari Sushi = 10 Fotomaki = 9 Musubi: Furikake = 9 Musubi: Nori = 9 The SERVICE = 7 ---COMMENTS--- Went w/ wife. This was our very last stop in Oahu; we grabbed some delicious snacks to have on our flight back home. This should've been one of our very first stops. Come here to put together a Bento box full of good eats and they probably have over 30 items to choose from. Every single one we ordered was great, but the croquette was my favorite. It's exactly how a croquette should be and it only cost 90 cents (Granted, it's a bit smaller than usual). The only way to be able to get to this place is by going west on King St. If you're going eastbound, it gets tricky. Thank God for my Droid. The place is popular and the parking lot has only about 5-7 spaces. There was a long line, of course, but went fairly quick. They have a lot of staff. We made this our dinner during our flight back home. Had no problems bringing it on board. The APPEAL = 10 If I'm ever back in Oahu... Coming back to make two bento's for my wife and I and taking it to the beach. I already know what mine would be: Chow fun noodles, kalua pork, shoyu chicken, veggie tempura, inari sushi, and of course, the croquette. Bento!

I've been coming here since highschool for breakfast and they still remember me as I'm graduating from college this year. They used to have a choice of a long Styrofoam box, but now you have a choice of the big square box or the small one. It was nice to have a middle choice for what I wanted to eat. The wait staff is so friendly even in the early hours of the morning. My favorites are the teriyaki meatballs and the battered tempura shrimp (I don't particularly like panko tempura). I mean everything is good but those are just my favorites. My mom's favorite is the shiso musubi, like many have said, she always brings it to family parties and it's always gone by the end of the day. It sure can get busy in the morning, people are stopping by for their lunches and breakfasts. I know that if you go late you won't get the freshest or the best of the pickings but I'm sure it'll be fine. They also offer side packs of cookies (in jars) or hot dog sushi (or chicken). They've been really good from what I've tried. I think the way Fukuya's works is that they're best when they're shared. The parking isn't the best situation but sometimes we park next door just because it's so early and none of the other stores are open yet. Also note: they're not open on Mondays and Tuesdays. Some time in April or May they take a spring break for a week or two.

I've been coming to Fukuya ever since I was young....Through the years the food has never seemed to changed the slightest in the recipes. One of my favorites is the macaroni salad. It's always very tasty with just enough mayonnaise.Another favorite is their cone sushi.I've not come close to a cone sushi that tastes better than the one at Fukuya. It has just enough of flavor to it and always melts my taste buds!

You know what I love about okazuyas? You get the variety of a bento, but you get to choose exactly what you want to eat. (But they do offer pre-set bentos as well for those that can't decide.) First off, parking on a Saturday morning (around 7ish), they had some parking in their lot in front, but there was also a bunch of street parking available. When entering Fukuya, the place was bright and very clean. A line 10 deep had already formed, and grew even longer by the time I left. So, for the food, most foods are lightly seasoned, which is perfectly fine with me. I have no problems with adding a little shoyu if I feel it needs it. Also, most foods are warm, not hot (unless you are lucky to get a new batch of food after they are running low on something), which makes this food great for a picnic or taking to the beach. But if you prefer your food hot, nothing a quick nuking won't solve. So, I ended up with 2 large take-out plates full of food. It ended up lasting for 3.5 meals (1 meal for two people, then another meal for me later, and then a snack for later), or I guess you could also look at it as a meal for 3.5 people? Anyways, for a little over $22 for all that food, i think it was worth it, especially considering everything was consumed! Here are some specifics on some of the items I had: - Noodles/Chow Funn - Prepared simply and lightly seasoned. I added a little shoyu, and was content! - Kalua Pig - I appreciated that they put it in a separate container, to prevent the kalua liquid from getting into the other foods, and also since all the flavorful liquid added to the container kept the meat tasty and juicy. - Spicy Poke - A small container for $2.75, but it was a nice accompaniment to the rest of the food. Some parts were a little stringy, and it was a little spicier than other spicy poke I've had, but overall it was pretty good. - Nori Chicken - They place a little piece of nori on a boneless/skinless chicken thigh, put some kind of coating, then it's deep fried. Result was a juicy chicken with a crisp outside and a slight sweetness to it. Something different, so it was nice to have. - Fried boneless akule - This was my favorite item, crispy panko outside, akule was nice and flavorful. I could just have a musubi and this, and would be happy! - Crab cake - Now this one was the only disappointment. I could taste the crab, but the seasonings and the textures inside the crab cake were unpleasant for me. - Shoyu hot dog - This was the saltiest item compared to anything else, but what did I expect from something that has shoyu and hot dogs, right? I also had a shiso musubi, luncheon meat, garlic chicken, fried chicken, and teri beef. Whoops, noticed that I didn't order any veggies, next time I'll get the nishime or a vegetable tempura! They also carry baked goods as well (cookies, mochi/manju, etc), which next time I'll have to try out. Lots of variety, and you are paying for what you get, so I think it is a good value. Very happy that I made the trip down there!

MUST EAT: Fukuya seaweed wrap filled with gobo, carrot and PORK. Sooooooooooooooo ONO! This is the 5 star creeper item! Shiso/ume musubi is also a must. Tofu patty, can't go wrong. Pork or chicken tofu, butterfish, tempura... how to decide??? Oh yea, I just want 10 of those seaweed wraps. WINNAHS!!! NOTE: Small portions can add up quick. Park by Sushi King and walk over. Always a very slow moving line. Sweet Aunties working the counter.

One of my good friends introduced me to this place and I instantly became a fan! I'm not familiar with Japanese delis and so my education begins with Fukuya. I finished off my food. I rarely eat everything off my plate and when I do, that means "yum, yum, Edwina is happy!" My favorites so far: fried boneless akule, shrimp tempura, and the chow fun. There is definitely a large selection so you'll leave happy. The place definitely dies down around 1pm so plenty parking then. Depending on which staff lady helps you, you better know what you want or else she'll move on to the next person in line. All in all, a great place to pick up lunch and they also do catering as well.

Fukuya has a nice selection of food, a lot of it is good but there are some misses. Prices are normal, definitely not starving-student-cheap like St Louis, but still around the same as Gulick or Caryns (although hands down my #1 is Caryns). This really is a 3.5 star for me, but had to round up on the rating. A small plate runs almost $4 (plain rice, mochiko chicken, veggie tempura), for a different/larger selection I pay almost double that (shiso musubi, chow fun, tofu burger, nori chicken, kobocha). I can't say I have a favorite dish here... they're all decent good. But ask me about Caryns and I can tell you what to get. Butterfish Misoyaki: do NOT get this - I think it cost me $3.50 too for a small filet! (the most expensive thing I've had there) and it was really fishy. Like stinky fishy. And it pretty much tasted like it smelled. I always see the mochi on the side counter though, always thought about getting some but don't really crave it these days. The maki sushi rolls they have up front too are actually pretty good, nice to bring to the office to share.

This is one of the best Japanese deli in town. The food is delicious. A must is the the shiso musubi, fried akule, vegetable croquette and mochiko chicken. The chow fun is clean and tasty. Parking is sometimes a problem but if there isn't any parking in front, street parking is usually available.

This is our favorite okazuya. Everything is good here. My favorites are the bread hash, nori chicken and shoyu pork. They have a barbecre meat maki sushi that is popular when I bring it to work. But the regular maki is very good too. Rice is a perfect texture, not too dry or mushy. I usually go early before 7am so if parking is tight in their regular lot, I park right next door by Sushi King. Later in the day, parking can just be a bit challenging, so it may be good to go with two people later in day so you can get dropped off and picked up. You can do 1/2 order of chow funn if the full order is too much food. The place is cool, nice and clean. I have catered family dinners from here too and everyone enjoys the food. It's a little more expensive, but worth it!

Pretty cheap. Food is not bad. Sometimes it's kinda cold. In the afternoon stuff runs out. You can get a cheap meal for $3 if you want. It's comparable to St. Louis Deli I think. I think there is one table inside and a bench outside.

Shame on you Fukuya; I was shocked to see/hear all that I did in the 7 minutes waiting for my turn. When one of the customers left her bottled water on the counter, did you even make an effort to tell her that she forgot her water. NOPE, so what did you do, you put it right back...that's when I stepped up and said that I would take it out to her...you reluctantly gave it to me. Thankfully, I got to her before she drove off, but she too was absolutely turned off with your rudeness while she was placing her order. Then in walks an elderly ojichan who asked the price of the mochi in your showcase...another shocker....I DON'T KNOW...YOU GOTTA ASK THEM...(pointing to the ladies; more like monsters if you ask me), in such a loud and grumpy voice, that poor man walked out. Then comes my turn, my total order came out to about $45; she gives me my change and drops the quarter in the nasubi...you guessed it right, she fished the dang thing out, wiped it on a napkin and gave it to me as if nothing happened. LASTLY AND JUST AS IMPORTANT, EVERY SINGLE THING WAS GREASY, the sushi was extra sour, the shoyu hamburger resembled mashed dog food, the nori chicken was soaked in grease, the nasubi was undercooked, the musubi was stale...ohhhhhhh the ume was still crunchy, the only thing I enjoyed on the bloody plate. Fukuya, you seem to have forgotten your roots and all of those that patronized your establishment....shame, shame, shame on you.

i love fukuyas! i used to come here a lot in college, and recently made a stop here the other week. it was on the later side, and i was worried they ran out of my favorites, but there were a few left and i was thrilled. my 2 MUST HAVES: shiso musubi and the crab cakes! i have to fully agree with Kawena K. "best shiso musubi of my life!" honestly. i've tried others at other okazuyas, and fukuyas is the best by far! just thinking about it has sparked a huge craving. must go there again soon!!!

We happened to find this place when having lunch at Sushi King next door. It was Sunday afternoon and the only mochi they had left was chichi dango. Everything was sold out. So we cleaned out their dozen or so of chichi dango, which was extremely soft and yum! So I can't imagine how yummy their mochi and manju are! We'll definitely return on our next trip home and try their garlic or mochiko chicken and shiso musubis as well!

I arrived late so I only tried the fried noodles and potato hash and the lady piled on the noodles like WHOA!. Only paid $1.38! (check out my pic) The noodles and hash were good and the lady was very nice. I have yet to try more and hopefully will boost my rating to a 5. *Sometimes a plus to go near closing because they want to get rid of the food

The food here is typical of local okazuya, so you'll love it if that's what you're ono for. The only reason I give it two stars is because of the way I was treated as a paying customer. I am a local, born and raised. I'm old school -- not pushy, not aggressive. But I was really angry when one of the servers there rolled her eyes at me when I asked her for more time to decide what I wanted. There were only two other customers in the store at the time, so it was fairly obvious that this reaction wasn't in response to a busy store. Because of that kind of treatment, however, I will never go back there.

mmmm fukuya. literally everything i've tried here is delicious. my fave items are the nishime, mochiko chicken, furikake musubi and the bbq chicken/teri beef sushi rolls. i like to go to pick up a snack / lunch but you have to go early or the line gets long / they run out of all the good stuff! like other reviews say, all the different choices can add up pretty quick if you're not careful but it's not super pricey and the food is yummy so def worth it. parking kinda sucks and if you're going diamond head on king i always feel bad trying to turn left into their little lot. if you're lucky, you can score street parking (or just sneak over from the parking lot next door!).

My grandmother passed away, and as we made funeral arrangements, my sister and I scoured local sites for catering options. Hosoi mortuary had mentioned the company and we found that the prices were very reasonable. On the day of the funeral, we had lingered behind talking to people, and then got scared because everyone had left to eat without any of us checking out how the delivery and setup went. However, we ended up finding that everything was in order, and the pastor's wife even commented on how efficient they were in delivering the food. Additionally, everyone enjoyed the food (I especially liked the mochiko chicken and mochi), and we were very satisfied with how everything went, especially since we were going through a difficult time.

Purple! I've never been so happy to see the color purple. And what, may you ask, am I referring to? The shiso musubi! I've never been to this place but every family gathering down the North Shore side, my Aunty stops here for a big box of those delectable rice balls. And every time she brings them, I can't help but devour 1, 2 or maybe 4 (not in one sitting of course but I totally could). What I like about these musubis is that it has the right amount of seasoning to make it just salty enough. And best of all it's good on its own or covered in other things like sweet sour spareribs sauce or Portuguese bean soup. The possibilities are endless!

Best Okazuya on the island! The fried chicken is an original that they've had for the last 20 years or so. If it's your first time get the Shiso musubi, fish pattie if they have it, maybe a tofu burger, and definitely a piece or two of the chicken. My wife loves the potato tempura and vegetable spring roll. Very reasonable and the quality is awesome! Get there before 12 or there's not much left and don't forget they're closed Monday & Tuesday.

9/18/10: Wife and I stopped in to pickup okazu, surprisingly at 9am we found a parking spot out front. We grabbed an assortment that included cone sushi, tofu patties, nori chicken, tempura, misubis and liked the overall selection. Very clean inside and reminds us of our favorite okazu in Hilo (Hilo Lunch Shop). Nori chicken is a big piece, nori is a small piece but the hunk of chicken skin and fat makes up!

Yes Fukuya Deli, mochiko chicken, musubi, butterfish, all the good stuff. I tried making nishime but just didn't seem the same as theirs. The food is just like mom would make, just wished I lived closer, or maybe not, then I would be even heftier lol.

I have been car-less for most of the week, due to my roommates use of the car, so my lunch options are limited to either cafeteria food or getting something from where my co-workers go. Today they picked up lunch from Fukuya, so I gave them my order to bring back to the office. I can't comment on the service today (though I've been there before in the morning, and its always pretty busy, and the line moves very very slowly). Here's what I got: plain musubi, garlic chicken, mochiko chicken, chow funn, vegetable croquette. Before going any further, I have to say that the portions are really tiny. The mochiko chicken was really good though the portion was probably less than half a thigh. The croquette was good too. The chow fun was pretty much flavorless. The garlic chicken had an off-taste to it (I guess I'm too used to the Mitsu-ken style). It was too sweet and tasted as if there was alcohol/ wine in it. My coworker suggested it was mirin. Anyway, it just tasted funny. All in all, it was decent food for a pretty decent price.

Must've been a bad day since the cone sushi was dry, mochiko chicken was sparse, and chow funn soggy. Crab cake looked better than it tasted. I really had high expectations for the place and was not impressed...oh well

This place is a Moiliili landmark. The noodles, Crab patties, shiso musubi, and hotdog sushi are my favorites. The price are typical okazuya. A take out container runs an average of $15 worth of food. The parking sucks, but for some strange reason I dream about this place. The old ladies are funny, the owners will come out to greet you, its a real family run business. Long live Fukuyas !!!!

Fukuya's Okazuya is decent. I'd rather have St. Louis Delicatessen. But what you gonna do, St. Louis is closed Sunday Monday and all major holidays. So we need maki sushi, cone, plain, nori. Nobody does musubi and rice balls better than Fukuya. The platters are always stunning. A masterpiece of color, so pretty, I just like to stare at it. Then the vulture's come along on New Years Eve and ruin it. I have to remember to take pictures this year.

Mother-in-law took us to Fukuya to pick up some lunch before our flight back to the mainland. Fukuya is an okazuya, which features localized Japanese specialties, including a really good BBQ roll, which is a BBQ beef, spam and furikake sushi roll. They also had a hot dog roll that I didn't try but will next time I'm there. The garlic, garlic chicken was more sweet than garlicky but it was still good. We also got the nori chicken, mochiko chicken, potato hash, vegetable and shrimp tempura and spam musubi. I ate most of my share on the way to the airport, but we saved some for the flight. Even if it was cold, it still beat airplane food!

went here this morning to get some eats before work - i like that fukuya opens early (6am) but damn, okazu is expensive! i was debating whether or not to go here or to mcdonald's and now i think i will choose mcdonald's in the future. i really like their hot dog maki roll (cut into 8 pieces for easier consumption) and their chicken maki roll but it's not worth spending $10 for just those two items. everything else is just ok. to me, their chow fun looks better than it tastes (i'm spoiled now because of lam's kitchen's noodles). i hadn't been here in a while and now i know why, it's too expensive to put together a plate because piece by piece it all adds up to a whole lot more than i would like to spend for this kind of meal.

If you're planning a day at the beach, a picnic or just lunch in general, then go to Fukuya. I grew up on their musubis, teri beef and noodles. Other items to try are the butterfish, fried ahi, and chow fun. Get there early (before noon) before they run out of some items. Parking is somewhat of a challenge in the small lot. They aren't open Mondays and take a holiday some time in January.

LOVE this okazuya!! All the food is so so good, but the fried fish is my fave... I also really like the nishime, garlic chicken and the potato salad... I get take out from here at least once a week!!!

  • Malie A.

*Sometimes a plus to go near closing because they want to get rid of the food

mmmm fukuya. literally everything i've tried here is delicious. my fave items are the nishime, mochiko chicken, furikake musubi and the bbq chicken/teri beef sushi rolls. i like to go to pick up a snack / lunch but you have to go early or the line gets long / they run out of all the good stuff! like other reviews say, all the different choices can add up pretty quick if you're not careful but it's not super pricey and the food is yummy so def worth it. parking kinda sucks and if you're going diamond head on king i always feel bad trying to turn left into their little lot. if you're lucky, you can score street parking (or just sneak over from the parking lot next door!).

My favorite okazu...prices are steep, but its open hella early for you catching a flight or making an early morning tee time. Teri beef rolls and hot dog rolls are great take out snacks....
