They are definitely Chinese and serve authentic Chinese food. Seems fairly clean... I get my Chinese food fix here. Though they do not use the original, thin, egg noodle for their won ton, it's still good with the saimen. Their char siu is on the fattier side. I've only tried the won ton and duck noodle soup and they are both yummy. $6.50 can't beat that. My credit card is my life, but this place is CASH only.

duck lee is my favorite chinese food fix outside of chinatown. it has the great food of a chinese fast food, but the char siu and roast duck rivals any chinese food place in chinatown. it's a must try if it's a first time and a repeat visit if you want great chinese food outside of chinatown.

Let me begin by saying that it was my epic food poisoning episode last night that finally motivated me to join Yelp and start reviewing local establishments. This was just too important for me to just let go. So my mom took out a half-order of Roast Duck and we ate it at home with some white rice and blanched green beans. Admittedly, the duck tasted great, a bit oily, but nothing out of the ordinary. That was at about 7:45pm. Here is a timeline for the rest of the night: 9:00pm--went to my room to work on some homework. 10:15pm--played some Tom Petty and Adele on my guitar. 10:30pm--stomach starts to feel uneasy; like an "I ate too much rich food" feeling. So I drink some water. 10:40pm--diarrhea #1. 10:55pm--diarrhea #2. 11:00pm--I've had better nights... 11:02pm--lingering stomach ache, but I assume the worst is over so I get ready for bed. I jump in the shower and brush my teeth. 11:30pm--I lay in bed for an hour or so. Can't fall asleep for the life of me. I hope this is not going to be an all night ordeal. 12:30am--as I lay in bed trying to ignore this stomach ache, my mouth starts to salivate like a dog at a chicken farm and I drag my limp body to the bathroom and stand over the sink, drooling for the next 10 minutes or so. 12:40am--violent vomit #1. Oh, god...all I can think of is the awful smell of Duck and it makes me throw up even more. Why is it red? 12:55am--brush my teeth again, pour Drano down the sink, text my GF that I'm slowly dying. 1:15am--diarrhea #3. I feel great. Now that the duck is no longer eating me from the inside-out, I can finally get some sleep for my Advanced Torts and Modern Scientific Evidence classes tomorrow morning. 2:00am--I fall asleep, or at least I think I do. 4:00am--wake up, lie in bed for about a helf-hour. Stomach ache is back, the salivating returns, somehow I make it to the bathroom, stand over the sink etc etc... 4:30am--violent vomit #2. At this point my mind is blown by the fact that there is still "food" left in my stomach. As the little pieces of duck pile up in my sink, it clogs and I switch to my trash can (why didn't I just use this to begin with?). My eyes are watery and I don't know if its because of all the vomit or the fact that I will never be able to eat roast duck again (I studied abroad in Hong Kong and absolutely love that stuff). 5:00am--"go to sleep" i.e. lie in bed until the sun comes up. 6:30am--"wake up" for school. Yay. Disclaimer: (1) This review is my first and I apologize if it is too graphic for some. (2) I express no personal opinions about Duck Lee Chinese Express Foods as a restaurant as a whole. This review was not intended to say that the food they serve is bad, or that the establishment's hygiene is sub-par. I simply intended to document my one (and certainly last) experience with Duck Lee. Everything I wrote is fact-- Yes, I ate the duck, yes I couldn't sleep, yes I threw up twice. (3) To the casual goer of Chinese food: consider my experience before you eat there. Like I said before, the duck tasted great (the first time it was in my mouth...) (4) To the loyal Duck Lee patron: I'm sure the food there is absolutely delightful 364 days out of the year and that I just happened to eat there on a "bad day." Please keep going there; it is not my intent to scare you away; nor is it my intent to cause Duck Lee to go out of business. Now I know what you are thinking: "He probably threw up because of something else he ate." Well, given that my last meal was around noon and that the only other things I ate for dinner were white rice and blanched green beans, I think it's safe to say "The Duck Did it." (5) No I did not drink any alcohol. (6) My mom also threw up.

OMG. This place used to be decent. The last pic wrote 3 meat on rice was $6 something? When was it taken? 2005? I got mine for $9.50..... the ready 2 order dishes all looked horrible,,,half an inch of oil on top of every thing.. so I got the almost $10- 3 meat combo. 1. Shoyu chicken, not bad. 2. Char siu, so so....a bit dry... 3. The Big one.... Roast duck. How can I describe it? OK.... get the worst roast duck you have ever tasted in your life, put it in the fridge for couple of days, then microwave it overdone. That is how the roast duck taste like here. Am I crazy, or the reviews here r totally biased? "Best roast duck? Char siu?" Fxxk me sideways...Please, don't misguide yelp lovers like me... I am so angry now! I wanna force-feed those horrible ducks I ate to those who wrote good reviews about this place! Wait...That lady actually works there... shit.

Do you like Chinese food? I do, and so do the people at Duck Lee, they make it right, they make it fast, and it doesn't hurt your wallet either. Today I had their beef brisket noodle to-go : I got two separate containers, one for soup, one for the noodles, brisket, and veggies. I drove to my workplace and sat down for lunch, everything was good. The separation of the ingredients allowed me to choose what I wanted to eat now and what I wanted to save. The portions are big enough to create two meals. And because they provided two portable containers; I now have just ate my lunch and have another practically-full-container of Chinese for dinner. All for $6.50.

Like the other reviews- Roast Duck, Pork, Chicken. A straight-a-head chinatown-style meat shop. I'm a huge fan of their won ton min. I have so much respect for it that i always eat it there. its nice to roll into a potluck party with an order of roast duck in your hands. really cant go wrong. one of the true gems in Market City. Now if they can do something about the parking lot.....

Duck Lee has the best roast duck in town. no contest. Char siu is hella good too! Ben, John & Irene give the best service and make great eye candy.

Great place to get roast duck and pork outside of Chinatown. The roast pork is a little salty, but crispy and juicy. And the prices are reasonable. The other Chinese food they have there is pretty good. Nothing special, but better than Panda Express.

    I. Love. Duck. No, seriously. I love eating duck. Especially roast duck or some sort of chinese cooked style of duck. Which made Duck Lee really intruiging to me seeing that there's not a lot of good duck places that don't require you to go to Chinatown. But first some background information: I first heard of Duck Lee on Yelp and the first time me and my roommate went to search for it we google mapped the address and even though the map told us to go to the address it was not the place that Duck Lee was at, we ended up in some sort of alley near some apartments. Eventually, after deciding to call the place up and finding the real address to the restaurant i ordered from their roast duck, roast pork, and char siu with fried rice. The roast duck was really good and the sauce that comes with it compliments it well, the char siu was ok though, not my favorite, but what stood out was the roast pork. Very crunchy! i would say if it's your first time try the roast pork and duck. The fried rice was good too. So if you're looking for a nice place for duck and don't plan on heading downtown try Duck Lee on Kapiolani, near the Fun Factory in Market City(not the alley).

Mmm, this place is good, quick, and cheap. I ordered the noodle soup with roast duck. This has got to be the most flavorful Peking Duck I've ever tasted. It has so much flavor in every bite. The broth and noodles were really good too. All this for only about $7.50. What a steal!

  • Kelly M.

Had the char sui fried rice. I've had better. Will try it again when I'm feeling really carniverous, as most of the reviews highlight meats

  • Love S.

Duck Lee is fckin awesome. They are the same guys from Nam Fong that left and made their own place. Good for them. The only gripe I have is they never make enough charsiu. They have rows of duck and roast pork but whenever I need Char siu they tell me 10 mins. 10 mins my ass. I come back in 10 mins. and then they say 10 mins. "Didn't you just tell me 10 mins, 10 mins ago?" Oh well, who cares. Everyone says my somen salad and yakisoba are the best and I know the secret is Duck Lee's Charsiu. This stuff is real charsiu, not the neon bright red shit you find everywhere. Excuse the language.

Until last week, I haven't been to Duck Lee since the first time I reviewed it, even though I liked it a lot. It's one of those place where after I go out I think, "Hey I should have gone to Duck Lee." This past week, I have changed that, having gone to Duck Lee four times in the past week for lunch. It is pretty much my favorite place for lunch, and still really affordable. The shoyu chicken and roast duck are awesome. Even the chow fun was flavorful in recent visits. The ginger chicken is good - the chicken itself is really flavorful, unlike other places, but the ginger onion sauce was just okay. The won ton mein is good too, with delicious shrimp free wonton (which I prefer) and a light broth. The noodles were a bit too thick and soft for my liking though.

My friend made me eat a plate of roast duck here and I got food poisoning. I told him the duck tasted sour, but he said my taste buds were too sensitive and it was fine. He was wrong. I never ate at a place like this before because 1) I had a pet chicken and I don't generally like to see them roasted and hung upside down, 2) I can see all the flies landing on the food and 3) how long has the meat been sitting out like that without refrigeration anyway?

  • Nikki N.

The best roast duck, roast pork, and char siu place everrrrrrrrr! I love it when the put the sauce on the rice. I see the same two brothers working when I go. Only one time I went and there was a sign that said On Vacation or something like that. But I don't care cause the roast pork and char siu is super ono.

    (5)
  • Cynthia A.

Really awesome duck and char siu can be found here! You must try it! It's so flavorful and will be chopped up on the traditional round wooden block with the traditional scary cleaver before your eyes. Hanging from the window 3-4 ducks will entice you, "Eat me, buy me, EAT ME!". Located in the Market City Shopping Center in Kapahulu, there is ample parking, but watch out for crazy drivers. Some of the ala carte items left out as choices for 1-3 choice plates are not as fresh as I would prefer. Ordering a full order of an item is the way to go. But you must try the duck...a half duck costs $6.50.

Hands down the best roast pork on the island!! And if you like the Thelma's Special in Waipahu, you can make a better one at home in minutes. Just chop some tomatoes and maui onions, mix it with a little fish sauce, and serve it over the roast pork. Bam, you got the best tasting Thelma's Special. The roast duck is also one of the better ones outside of Chinatown. Gotta dip it in the sauce it comes with too. Char Siu is also really good, but not really a fan of char siu as I can't eat too much of it.

To Mr. Lee, Mr. Duck Lee, THANKS for bringing Chinatown to me! Because I love Chinatown but I hate trying to park there. One of my favorite foods in the world is roast duck. And I've had duck in every meat shop in Chinatown Honolulu and Boston. This place is 5 miles closer to my home and every bit as good as any duck I've every had. Juicy and full of flavor and cook until the right amount of fat has rolled off. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

I bought ha gow, siu mai, and chive dumpling, 9 pieces for $9.39. Each sturdy dumpling was huge, filled with good quality ingredients, and very tasty. You have to ask for complimentary mustard sauce. Service was very accommodating and helpful. Likely I will be back to try some more.

Small Chinese restaurant in Market City next to Fun Factory in the corner. Duck noodle soup here is great! Good portions. Staff is very polite and genuinely nice people. Yes, they do speak Chinese here!

Duck Lee is a great option for take-out Chinese barbecue. Rather than having to travel to Chinatown to get these treats, you can get them at Duck Lee. This is totally a convenient place to go for East Honolulu residents. The char siu and roast pork are good choices. I have not had their combo plates, but have had some of their noodle options which are good deals. My favorite noodle choice is beef chow fun (dry). The one thing about the chow fun is that it sort of has a slight of a smoky smell associated with it though. Still for its good portions and price, Duck Lee is a great Chinese takeout place.

Ah, Duck Lee bka "The Duck Place" to my family. Also the point of reference when we talk about going to get "a duck plate." We ate charsiu and duck from here about once a week all the way through my high school years, duck being my brother's favorite food. I have to say that I was a big stinker about disliking most meats, but duck and charsiu I could definitely and willingly do, even back in those days. I haven't been back recently because I'm trying to cut back, but Extra points for the convenient location with parking!

  • Jas A.

I am a fan of their crispy pork. sooooo good. not too oily and stays crunchy even when the meat is juicy. i watched them as they took all of the thick fat between the flesh and skin out. the pigs feet was yummy also. lunch plates are 6.50 so not going to break the bank. check it out.

"What if Panda Express didn't suck?" Well, it would be a lot like Duck Lee. It's great for what it is, thus the high rating I'm giving it. Convenient, cheap, and...well, good. My favorite is the roast pork. The duck and char siu are also quite lovely. Those are the only things I've tried, so 3 for 3 ain't bad. This is how Chinese people fei'umu.

  • Theodore C.

I love it here! The Roast Duck, Char Siu, and Roast Pork are excellent. They also have the chinese cold pig's feet here; which is also good; only if you like that kine stuff. I'd recommend this place to everyone who wants good chinese roasted meats.

  • David C.

5 stars for the roast duck. I don't really order anything else. The skin is just so damn crispy! The guys are kind of moody though but to me, that's all part of the charm of this place.

  • Ping H.

Had dinner at Duck Lee. We tried their BBQ pork, crispy skin pork, roast duck and wonton soup with mein. They have the best roast pork with crispy skin. Their roast duck is pretty good too, but their wonton is Hawaiian which only has pork and no shrimp. We didn't try their combination plates but saw a lot of locals ordering them to go. This is our favorite place to go for Chinese outside of Chinatown. Their crispy skin pork is the best. We went back 3 times in one week just to have it.

roast pork is usually pretty good. skin is king when it comes to roast pork. the other stuff is good too. like the ginger chicken, duck and char siu. the girl that works there is pretty cute too.

  • Mei K.

The won ton mein is one of the best. The won ton are big and abundant. The noodles are fresh and don't get soggy in the delicious soup. There is also choy sum, green onions, and char siu for garnish. And then there is the portion size...It's a huge bowl that is enough for two people. Oh and the price is around $9.00. Such a deal! Duck Lee is much more convenient than Chinatown and the food is better. The roasted meats are always fresh and moist. The dim sum is a smaller selection, but they have the favorites: har gau, crispy gau gee, baked and steamed char siu bau, pork hash, etc...Try them all!

  • Lori L.

Duck Lee Chinese Express Foods has the best roast duck and roast pork outside of Chinatown. The duck meat is juicy and flavorful, but the seasoned skin is where it's at. Yes, it's oily and fatty, but it's so worth it. Same for the crispy roast pork. You have to eat this fresh when the skin is crunchy. Salty, fatty, porky with the crispy skin, yum! The shoyu chicken and char siu are good too if you're looking for variety. I don't order anything else when I go, skip the noodles, skip the stir-fries and go straight for those beautiful meats hanging in the window. Call ahead to reserve yours today. And hope you get a good butcher, not all the staff chop the same, so you could also take it home and cut it yourself.

5 Stars is for having the bestest Roast Pork!! & for convenient location of not having to drive to Chinatown. I love Duck Lee's Roast Pork!! Its very crispy!!, not too fatty!! but just right!! I stopped by to get some roast pork for a veggie dish that requires this. I'm happy that I was able to get roast pork on a Monday & @ 6:15 pm. Wow!! saved a trip & time from going to Chinatown. I had a piece & wow!! its ono-licious!! Regret not buying more, but it was too late!! already made it home. Duck Lee moved ( previous location, nexts to Any Time Café) about 4 shops down. I like this location better, a little bigger than the previous. with more tables to dine. ( about 6?) Besides the assorted roasted meats & Chinese food, they also have Dim Sum. This is new, I saw the dim sum menu & the baskets. Nexts time, I will pick up a few. I'm debating if I should knock off a star for just accepting CASH!! but that's ok, you deserve my 5 stars!! *****!! This gives me a reason to budget when I carry cash. =) Thanks Duck Lee!! for making such Awesome CHI-NEE goods!! & foods!!

Duck Lee!!! Why are your char siu so dang moist and tasty? Every time I come in here you guys never disappoint. Consistently the same delicious taste that keep me up at night, drooling in the morning and breaking my concentration at work. Thank you Duck Lee!!!

  • Denalee C.

If this restaurant changed it's name to "Best Roast Pork" I'd totally back them up. I usually come here for a dim sum snack-which sometimes they still have in the late afternoon and their pork hash is delicious: larger size, tender and flavorful. But after reading the reviews, I had to try the roast pork. I got a plate with choy sum, fried noodles and roast pork. The rest of my plate paled in comparison to the roast pork. Heavenly morsels of juicy, tender, fat ridden pork with super super super crispy skin. I mean if they lied and really deep fried it, I wouldn't be surprised. At all. Next time. Roast pork + a side of rice + three pork hash = Chinese food heaven.

Duck Lee Chinese Express Foods located in Market City is my go to place on this side of the island if I feel like I'm in need of some Chinese Fare on the quick and being the meat lover that I am. I always order the Roast Meat Plate and nothing else, although the Dim Sum looks mighty tempting as well, but I want the full effect of someone selling me Dim Sum in a restaurant with the Dim Sum Cart's rolling all over the place with the mean Chinese lady just dropping dim sum all around our table without even saying a word not knowing what the hell we are eating and then marking stuff on our check like she is filling out a Keno Card in Vegas. Ok enough of that, if there is something that always catches my eye, it's looking through a glass showcase of Roast Pork, Roast Duck, and other goodies just hanging there and getting unhooked by the Old Chinese Man with the long whiskers that he hasn't shaven off since grade school but you won't say anything about it because he has a huge ass cleaver right in his hands and he'll just Ginsu Two you if you dare talk about it. The Roast Pork here at Duck Lee. I love the marbling of the pork and the crackling skin that's attached to it. It is actually pretty good here compared to most places, but it doesn't come close to Roast Duck Kitchen in Aiea, where I think has the BEST Roast Pork by far. Sorry folks, but that's just my opinion and I won't go back on my words either but here at Duck Lee, they make a good Roast Pork here as well. As for the Roast Duck, it's good here but not great but maybe since I always order the Roast Meat Plate, I might not be getting the better parts of the Duck, it usually parts that have a lot bone and not too much meat, something compared to eating Chicken Wings at a Wingstop. Maybe I'm just too fat thinking I have enough meat and fat on my body already. What I actually like here is the Char Siu. I Love the flavor and texture of the Char Siu here at Duck Lee. And it actually has just the right amount of fat on it and it's so juicy and tender. I always save some of the Char Siu to add to my Frozen S&S Saimin at home and boy does that it over the top. Priced at $12.50, I always opt for the Roast Meat Plate with three choices. It comes with a heaping amount of White Rice, bean sprouts that I really don't care for and your choice of meats. I think next time I'll just stick to the Roast Pork and Char Siu and nothing else. I have tried the Shoyu Chicken here that other Yelpers raved about but was somewhat disappointed after tasting it. There was no wow factor whatsoever and was very pedestrian if you ask me. I'll eat that Shoyu Chicken that I used to eat in High School many many years than eat this Shoyu Chicken ever again. All I can say is that the staff here is actually quite friendly and the establishment here is pretty clean as well considering they just moved a few doors down from their old location and is quite spacious for indoor dining. I actually like Duck Lee, I don't hate it but from an all around aspect of things, I've had better.

I would say this place as one of the best baked maunapua's! They open at 1030, so you better get there when they first open! Fresh is best, but even if you go in the afternoon, it is still good too. I mostly get the baked maunapua, but we have also gotten the gau gee, pork hash, and other dim sum items as well. Every one loves it! They only take cash here, so if you're going to try, don't forget that! Otherwise, you can always go to walgreens to get cash back! Definitely give them a try! They are really good!

Remember the 1980's Classic, "Sixteen Candles"?! Yup, one of my feel-good favorites even with the horrid stereotype of "Long Duk Dong", a Chinese nerd, played by Japanese actor, Gedde Watanabe. I mean Molly finally did realize he was indeed looooong in the dong department, but it was all about "Jake Ryan" and his 80's Black Porsche turbo. Sweet ride - I had one too, back in the day (regret selling it)! I mean even I had a "straight-man crush" on Jake, but I also had a thing for his girlfriend too, the blonde, who so happened to be Molly's sister! I'm so controversial! Ummm, so what does "Sixteen Candles" have to do with a place called... DUCK LEE CHINESE EXPRESS FOODS! Well, for starters I can't help visualizing "Long Duk Dong" every-time a friend checks-in here! Duh. I mean it's rather obvious with the "Long Dong" here, oh I mean "Duk Lee"... Get it? "Duk" and "Duck" now serving Duck over noodles! Hey, this place, that reminds me of "Long Duk Dong" has some pretty good Chinese food! And unlike John Hughes racial stereotypes, REAL Chinese actually run this place! Dong well too! Oh, I mean "dang" well, too! On my last visit here I ordered a plate ($8.50) which included fried rice (starch) and sweet & sour pork & mushroom chicken w/ zucchini (2 entrees). Molly (Ringwald) had the popular Duck Fun (noodles) Soup ($8.65). The prices are about a dollar more from a year ago, but with the quantity & quality combo - it's still quite a bargain! We also shared baked and steamed pork buns (Cha siu bao) - not much meat, but it was tasty and the bread was fresh! And yes, we enjoyed our lunch! Burp! DUCK LEE CONS: 1. Parking - The private parking lot at Market City Center is horrible! Tiny parking spaces and I would strongly suggest avoiding the lunch hour or pau hana rush hour. Speaking of the 1980's, I think only VW rabbits and Pinto's can fit in these manini spaces! Well, maybe a Yugo, too! 2. Tea - I should say no complimentary house tea. It might be available for a price, but I really don't know. Fortunately, the tap water is free! 3. Cafeteria - Yup, hot table, point what you want, so 99% of the foods are already prepared... However... DUCK LEE PROS: 1. Food - Can't beat the price + quantity + taste combos here! If not that hungry... The dim sum, buns, etc are a pretty good option too! 2. Efficiency - Great option for those looking for a quick and hardy meal! Most items are already cooked or baked and just ready to be scooped per your request. 3. Choices - Okay, they have the cooked and scoop food, but also chicken feet (nails), dim sum, soups and meats hanging on hooks! Just ready to be chopped up! That's a good sign! 4. Cafeteria - Yup, it's also a pro, too! If you like fast and in your belly! The good thing about this place is that the turn over seems very fast - I am certain not many items actually sit for very long. Point. Eat. Out! So yes, I recommend this place called... DUCK LEE CHINESE EXPRESS FOODS! Now say that 5 times fast! Yes, it brings back fond, or not so fond memories of "Long Duk Dong", but whatever you're feeling... The food is good here with fast service to boot! No frills, tip optional kind of place! Lot's of burly men and burly working women in fluorescent shirts eat here, so you know it's pretty good! Heck, they just might be huge fans of the "Brat Pack!" Remember? "Sixteen Candles", "Pretty in Pink", "Ferris", "The Breakfast Club"... "Long Duck Dong", or maybe, just maybe fans of decent Chinese food in BIG proportions! Yup, that's it - probably the later! Eh, luckily "Sixteen Candles" can still be seen on VH1 and MTV... Ahhhh the good ole' days. Fun times... Oh Molly! OVERALL GRADE: 4.0-STARS! (Solid!) LIVE ALOHA... YELP REVIEW #410

Duck Lee's new location to a couple doors down from their original spot at the Market City Shopping Center is a nice change. It is a big improvement as everything is newer and brighter. Their space size even doubled so more tables and chairs are available for patrons to eat on site. They still have take-out and retained the same policy of cash payments only. I like to patronize Duck Lee simply because: 1. Delicious roast duck! 2. Juicy char-siu (also better than Nam Fong) 3. Tasty roast pork (not as salty) I've been buying roast duck from them tor past 8 years and I'm glad the same guy is still making duck there. I prefer their duck over Nam Fong and having eaten Nam Fong's duck more than a few times, I'm still partial to Duck Lee. Another bonus for me when buying favorite duck: ample parking at Duck Lee and I don't have to deal with the issue of parking. Now with a bigger space, Duck Lee offers take-out dim sum so I'm game to try dim sum here. It was after the lunch hour rush, hence there was no line. I ordered the vegetable pork bun bao and steam Lotus rice; both were okay but nevertheless, it is a nice to have a dim sum place outside of Chinatown. Service was helpful and way friendlier with the new crew. It appears the nice young gentleman is the person in charge of chopping the duck while the remaining two ladies take care of the dim sum and take-out portions. The guy told me the two brothers chopping duck at the old location are his cousins. Good to know they're related. Their menu includes various dishes of vegetables, chicken, noodles or soups. However, I have yet to try any of these because I cannot resist their duck, char siu or roast pork. It's a losing battle when I walk in there and the smell of the tasty duck gets me every single time. The duck holds me hostage and I gladly surrender my willpower. As soon as I'm finished eating the "finger-licking-good" duck, I'm already thinking about eating more duck. Duck monster I am. Nom nom nom...

Since I had a craving for Roast Duck and I have been going to Chinatown quite often,I decided to revisit Duck Lee and got a Roast Duck Plate. Yay! So much better than the last time as the previous time I went here the duck was ok but this time it was warm and so much better! I got the regular noodles this time instead of the Chow Funn and it was pretty good. It seems they are moving soon to from what I heard another section of Market City I think (I meant to read the notice but forgot on the way out) I think I'll have to revisit more often if they keep things warm :-)

Roast pork is very tasty and ono. The Roast Duck is good too. Would like to try their duck noodle the next time around. Prices are good and great place to eat quickly. the service is fast . I would reccommend this place instead of bucking the traffic to Chinatown.

Cash only! This place moved three doors down from their old joint in Market City. We tried their chow fun with gravy (not on the menu, but dry chow fun is) and their roast pork. I love that they have bbq meat now, and they do a bang up job with their prepared food selection! This place is a combination sit down and order restaurant/fast food takeout/butcher shop/dim sum quick fix. Sadly, we stopped by in the afternoon on Saturday and they were disappointingly low on their dimsum. They either didn't make a lot or they simply ran out. So all that was left were manapua, joong (jaozi--sticky rice in lotus leaves), and dan tat (egg tart). Their prices for a rice plate are decent ($8-10ish) and they definitely pile it high! Their chow fun was pretty strange...it tasted a lot like chicken soup. But I guess that's what I get for ordering food not on the menu. Their beef and vegetables were cooked well though, and they gave a large portion for $9. The roast pork (siu ji yuk) was good, but the seasoning was sweeter than what I'm used to, and it was definitely contaminated with duck gravy! No harm, no fowl? No no no! I love my duck, and I love my roast pork, but I'm a purist. Never the two shall meet, unless it is within the confines of my stomach. The skin was nice and crunchy though, and it's nice to be able to get a quick fix rather than drive into Chinatown, but I have to say that the roast pork at Chinatown Express in Ala Moana is still my fave outside of downtown. BUT THEIR SAVING GRACE WAS THEIR DAN TAT. OH MY SWEET YUMMIES. It's good. Their crust is flaky without being crumbly, and their custard is smooth and sweet. Maybe I'm just dan tat deprived, but I never say oh my sweet yummies. Seriously. It's not the best I've ever had, but again, outside of Chinatown, I'll take it. Their service was quick and they were super kind and polite. winnahs.

Staff was extremely friendly and luckily there was no line. My dad (local boy) recommended this place and he was right on the money. They let us get a little bit of duck but mostly char siu. The Char Siu was better than the duck, and pickled cabbage was a nice surprise. Made for a good snack on our way to Kailua beach.

Char Sui, Shoyu Chicken, and Roast Duck are good. I love this 3 meat combo for $14-15. It fed my wife, son, and I with a little left over. I was not impressed with the desserts; custard pie and coconut sesame seed ball.

Went in Friday 9/26 for dinner. Most everything was sold out when we got there at 6pm. The food that we did get was cold and nothing that I thought was too special. The duck was good but not something that I am going to crave to get more of. They only take cash which is kind of a pain but just know that going in. While we were there several people came in looking for food but turned around when they noticed they were sold out of everything. Maybe they are a lunch place? Maybe I will give them another shot but with all the great choices here on Oahu, it will be a long time until it happens.

I hate to repeat what everyone else is writing, but it can't be helped. Their pork! I want to move in and gorge myself of their pork all day and all night until I happily die of a heart attack. Happily! (Aussies will love the crackling attached- it's the real deal!) Their duck was also very flavorsome and the chicken was a 3.5 out of 5. Oh, and their char siu steamed buns are the bomb-diggity! I must admit that the friend rice and noodles were just standard fare, but who cares?! Order the pork!!

Formerly located in the corner of Market City Shopping Center next to Fun Factory who also is no longer there..... They are now in the old sushi boat location to the right of Café kaila. We arrived a little early so we waited outside for about 10 minutes and while we watched the workers bring all the food to the front and hang the duck, roast pork and ribs we really started to feel the hunger pains. Noticed that this place also has dim sum! Ordered the road duck, roast pork and of course ribs and I immediately took a liking to the ribs. nom nom nom it was sweet, juicy and moist. I erks me to eat overcooked meat only for it to be a bad imitation of roast pork or lechong. hahaha We did share the plate and then moved on to the jin dui. I hope I spelled that correctly - I'm not Chinese. Jin Dui was so so so delicious. I ordered the coconut and the outside was evenly chrispy, with a slight sweetness & chewyness that was heavenly. It must have been because it was fresh out of the fryer. The inside didn't look like coconut it had a yellow color to it that reminded me of cornmeal. But it was yummy. ++ Love the new location ++ Lots of tables to sit down and eat ++ Staff is friendly and speak English well (LOL) ++ Expanded menu - Line to order isn't established. So be patient and just keep a mental note of who's next.

I was in the mood for some good Chinese last night, figured there would be some on Oahu. Found this place, thanks to yelp. While the Char Siu and Duck were good, I wouldn't say it was 4 stars worthy. The Char Siu was cold, not something I'm used to, but I still ate it, cause it was good. Got the Char Siu bao as well. The bread was perfectly sweet, the meat inside was perfectly sauced. The only problem, was the meat to bread ratio was waaaaaaay off. So much bread, with so little meat, kind of sad. While it was good and close to home, I think we might try somewhere else next.

Duck Lee has been a family favorite for over a decade. I like the convenient location, sans the traffic and parking hassles you'd normally encounter in Chinatown. The usuals for me are always their whole roast duck, Si Yau Kai (shoyu chicken) and char siu. Always consistently good and the price can't be beat. CHAR SIU ($10/LB): yelp.com/biz_photos/duck… - Sweet and savory porky goodness! Delicious meat candy! I love that you can pick and choose which pieces you want. The ones with the caramelized charred edges are the best, that's where all the flavors are at. - The pork is tender with just the right amount of sweet and savory seasoning. YUM! ***They automatically ladle the fatty duck drippings over it. So make sure to tell them not to if it's not your thing. Tastes better without all that unnecessary sauce dumped on top. ROAST DUCK (I've been charged anywhere from $20-22/LB sometimes, quite reasonable): yelp.com/biz_photos/duck… - I agree with my friend Jeffrey T. that it's "the best roast duck in town". - Seasoned just right, with lots of meaty goodness per order every time. - They automatically ladle the greasy pan drippings from the duck onto your chopped duck, so if you don't like it, make sure you tell them beforehand. I always ask for it without the pan drippings. ***Goes great with the sweet soy sauce from the the shoyu chicken. Ask them for it "on the side." ***I like to have them split the duck into 2 separate small boxes. SI YAU KAI (shoyu/soy sauce chicken, $6/LB): - Duck Lee sells both the whole chicken and for smaller appetites, just the leg quarters (thigh and drumstick). - I prefer to order just the leg and have it chopped up. I find these pieces more seasoned and flavorful.

CASH ONLY. Moving 4 doors down in May 2014. Very good CHAR SIU in Market City shopping center. Sometimes I need a pound of charsiu and don't feel like driving/parking in Chinatown. I've tried ordering it at other Chinese restaurants but they are usually dry and chewy. This place comes close to the quality and taste of the char siu I like from Chinatown. The roast pork today was mostly fat, and hardly any meat. Some people like that. Me, not so much. I'll stick to the char siu. They also serve quick cafeteria style food which is fresh in the morning, and not so fresh in the afternoon, so try to go early if you want a better selection. When in doubt, get the char siu.

  • Jozlyn H.

Very good hole-in-the wall kind place. Roast pork, roast duck and char siu are their popular items. They had other choices like cold ginger chicken, eggplant, spare ribs, some squid looking thing and some other stuff that looked good but don't know the name of lol We got there around 1145am and it was completely empty..... However while she was working on our order, about 6 other people started to form a line. Obviously this place is good! We were in and out of there quickly and the food was delicious!!!!! I'll definitely be back!

Don't get thrown off by the name -- for those eaters who either know of or are from Hong Kong/Cantonese origins, Duck Lee has a pretty amazing selection of roast meats. I was pretty impressed by the quality of the plate, and for the price I paid, I received a gratuitous amount of meat for just one meal. The Char Siu was delicious and the sauce impressive. The roast duck was also delicious. Definitely recommend this place to other Cantonese eaters out there, for those craves when you need 'em. They also have dim sum that looks savoury, but I'll try it next time as I'm so stuffed and satisfied.

This place produces great pork hash which is baked in a large pan and sliced into 2" x 4" x 2" thick chunks. I came here for lunch one time and observed that it gets pretty crowded with take-home mommys. Definitely a place to get your chinese food fix. Hint though: Dont let the Mama serve you, she does not know anything about great customer service. I ordered Roast duck and she served me the leftover trimmings from a previous order! Yuk!!!! Go there when the young generation kids are serving- they would be generous and would be the future leaders of this business. This is the way to go. Mama should really retire as she is doing a disservice to the business. She did this to me twice already.

Everything I've had here has been really good! One of my favorites is the pig's feet. The ginger sauce it comes with is ok, but I usually ask for a container of the mustard/soy sauce too.

I've always loved there food but I was trying to order a pan of Chow Fun for my mother's birthday party and they kept picking up the phone and hanging it up. I tried to call for about 45 min thinking that maybe they were busy...I guess I'll take my business elsewhere.

Craving roasted pork or duck?...or both?? This place has the good stuff. I love roast pork and there's something about seeing them bring out the pork and cut it up with a huge cleaver. It makes it all the more fresher. They dump some sauce over it and it's good to go. I've always seen the sign to this place, but never tried here until recently. The two times I've eaten here it was consistently good. I will most likely make this place a regular stop for lunch. It's quick and it's delicious.

I love your duck and your chicken. My family thanks you as well. It is so tasty, so moist, so wonderful. Keep it up! Just picked up your black bean jin dui today. It is also so tasty, but I was disappointed because I just got a small bit of black bean. Would be so grand if you could add more of the black bean. It would complete my meal. The new space has added to a much more positive atmosphere.

There are some places that you know exactly what you're gonna get, and Duck Lee's is one of those types. And by no means is necessarily a bad thing mind you, because sometimes you just want some greasy Chinese food. And what the things they do well are actually quite good. Their roast meats--the duck in particular--are crispy and succulent...and CHEAP! And while shops have come and gone in Market City, they've stayed the test of time and economy. But having said all that, not everything is a winner. They have the staple hot items you'd expect from a quick order take out Chinese restaurant, but it sometimes looks and tastes as though certain ones have been out sitting for awhile. Case in point the chow fun. If you're fortunate to get there when a fresh pan comes out, then you're golden. The noodles are fresh and there's good chew to them. But more times than not, at least in my experience, the noodles are dry from being heated for too long, which is unfortunate.

Excellent service! When I asked if i could sit down and order, the Chinese woman, despite all the things she had to do, was nice enough to make me a hot pot of tea. The baked manapua wasn't hot, but was very good. The shrimp and chives dumplings were hot and fresh and I had two orders. All in all, a very good experience. I made it a point to give this helpful and hard working woman a good tip.

Ran into this place by accident because I needed to go potty, which the complex shares a communal restroom. Place reminds me a lot of the take out Chinese restaurants which you would find in the mainland, especially in Southern California. The place carried a variety of different dim sum and other steamed dumplings and catered to your usual Chinese take out menu. They did carry BBQ duck and toasted pig. If you're in the mood for chicken feet, well here you go. The food was pretty good and can't complain about the prices, which is moderate when compared to the strip off Waikiki. Glad I ran into this place.

If you don't want to deal with the parking and other hassles of going to Chinatown to get authentic Chinese takeout this place will do just fine. Great food, all prepared right in front of you. Great Pork, Chicken and Duck, all prepared just like you would get in China. Reasonably priced, quick, easy to get to and available parking right in front. Save yourself the trouble and go here instead of Chinatown.

First off, the roast pork is AWESOME. We get a container of that plus rice (they're very generous w/ their rice, not like paying $1/scoop at a lot of places) and it's perfect. Their plate lunch food selection is decent, some is better than others. Their crispy gaugee is huge. The sweet sour spare ribs weren't very good at all, but the eggplant, as well as the roast chicken is good. Service is good here as well. We go here pretty often and have never gotten sick or anything, which is more than I can say for some other Chinese food we've eaten!

Really delicious roast pork. Crispy skin and not too salty. I love that the cut it up for you when you order, it's fun watching watching them weld the meat cleaver. Chari siu also very tasty. Both make excellent pupus to bring to party (goes good with beer) and a nice change from poke. At about $10 a pound for both I'll certainly be back.

i ordered a half a pound of their roast pork and the lady cutting it up asked me if a little over was "okay". i said it was fine and when i looked at the price, she pretty much charged me for an entire pound which i still took in stride, and given the other decent reviews about this place i thought that i was looking forward to a decent addition to my meal next door from Gina's. i snacked on the first piece or two on the drive home and was they were pretty good overall, nice crunch, flavor wasnt too salty, and not too dried out even considering that it was about 5pm and they usually make these things very early in the day and let them sit out for the rest of the night. but then, i got home less than 10 minutes later to finish the rest of it off and it honestly didnt even seem like it was made from the same batch, on that same day. the rest of the pieces that i had were so hard that they were honestly inedible, and so dry that it reminded me of pipikaula or beef jerky. i find it hard to believe that the lady who cut this portion out did not notice that it really wasnt the best piece they had lying around, yet proceeded to sell it off anyway and intentionally giving and charging me more than i had originally asked for. my advice, if youre going to up-sale a product, dont skimp out and give the customer a less than impressive representation of something that you feature in your restaurant.

We dream about Duck Lee!! We are from Wisconsin, and regularly bring up our pictures of Duck Lee wonton soup, just to longingly stare at it. It is a running joke around our house, when asked what we are hungry for...answer = Duck Lee. We were introduced to the wonderful wonton soup back in 2005 by some locals...late night after a WI Badger vs UH football game. Every time we are back on the island (we have family in Honolulu), we make a bee line to Duck Lee. Besides the amazing wontons, the soup is full of noodles, bok choy (or if you are lucky, gai lan - Chinese broccoli), and their superb char sui (Chinese BBQ pork). Absolutely fantastic. And results in the demise of my pescetarianism every damn time. A key reason we come back to visit Oahu so often!!!

This review is for the won ton noodle soup only, as I have yet to try their other offerings. So their won ton noodle soup is good, you should try it. Good size portion at a reasonable price. Just be careful it always so hot. I usually have to wait 5 minutes before I can try to eat. So try to go 5-10 minutes before you are starving. Also, the duck and char siu hanging in the window looks amazing every time. I haven't tried, but I bet it's good. Other notes: Parking is usually available, cash only sorry. Update: I am eating the soup now and there is char siu in it and I have confirmed it is good.

I'm a new person moving in to HI from California. So to be honest with you, I was spoiled with the pricing & food excellency Cali makes, especially on Roast Duck, Roast Pork & their noodles. But after moving to HI, I tried the Char Siu House in China Town. The price is WAY too pricey for a roast duck or roast pork that contains too much fat & bones. Then, after trying the Roast Pork & Roast Duck here at Duck Lee, I like the pricing (eventhough it's still unable to compete against CA). Very affordable for us Hawaiians to enjoy. The best part of Duck Lee is that Roast Pork is cooked with less saltiness & there's more meat than fat & bones. THAT is what good roast pork should be. MORE meat & LESS fat/bones. Roast Duck, like I said, I'm too spoiled from Cali. But I'll give you guys credit, an a-ok Roast Duck I ever tried in Hawaii. it could have been better if the duck is more juicy & less dry. Your noodles are also good too. Especially noodle soup. Very hard to find good noodle soup places in HI, especially since majority will get fused with Japanese Udon & Ramen (which I'm not a big fan compared to the traditional Chinese Wonton Noodle Soup & Hong Kong Seafood Noodle Soup). Overall, I'll rate you 3 stars out of 5. Keep up the good work Duck Lee restaurant!!!!

  • Pong K.

The roast duck was the bomb, but as for the roast pork too salty and was not as crispy as I prefer. $20 for the whole roast duck and about $15 for 1/2 lb roast pork. I get what some of the previous ratings meant about food not being so fresh by mid day. This place is right on the corner of the four way intersection and it's also hidden at the corner of the plaza connected to other small shops. Didn't realize Market City shopping center was that small.

Roast pork, roast duck, & Char siu! If you live on the east side or if you're in the area & want meat and don't want to drive to China town, this is the place to go! Their meats are fresh & tasty. If you don't like to eat all the fat just tell them less fat or lean & don't forget the sauce on the side.

mmmmm...ROAST duck + Char Siu. I love roast duck, and it's one of the bests i've ever had. My GF is super picky about things she eats. So if it wasn't some good Char Siu, it'll go to waste. She'd just pick at it, and it will sit on the plate. When we go to Duck Lee, there never seems to be enough for me at the table. ps. thanks for the super hook up today!

Recently went to Duck Lee for lunch and I ordered Chow Fun and two Crispy Gau Gee. It's in the Market City Shopping Center so depending what time you go you may have to circle the parking lot a few times before you get a parking but well worth the wait. Chow Fun...Very tasty, some places you go to it's dry and it needs mustard to help with the flavor but not the one at Duck Lee. They are very generous with their servings which is good for someone who can eat a lot. Crispy Gau Gee...here at Duck Lee the meat mix that they use to stuff their gau gee has little pieces of roast pork in it. This is the first place I've been to that uses little pieces of roast pork in the gau gee filling. To me it keeps the gau gee from drying out and adds a little something something to the gau gee. The roast pork is also very good. Super crispy and delicious.

Fantastic roast pork! I wouldn't recommend their a la carte choices later in the day, as they tend not to refill with fresh. Once they run out, that's it. Their Shanghai noodles are great, although quite spicy. If you want a lot of food for a great price, definitely a must try.

  • Kendra O.

The roast pork is like crack! Just writing about it makes me want to go and pick some up. I like that you can get a roast pork plate, served with bean sprouts and either regular rice or fried rice (which is pretty good). Sometimes they run out later in the day, so I've settled for the char siu, which is also good -- I like to throw it in saimin or ramen that I make at home. Their noodle soups are also good. I've had the won ton mein and the duck noodle. Unfortunately, because their roast pork is so addicting, I haven't tried too many of their other items, but the roast pork alone makes this place worth going to.

Most of the stuff here tasted authentic. The young lady/cashier was very friendly. However, I had to pay $11 for BBQ pork and the pork baos were nothing to write home about. Compared to CA, I thought their prices were a bit high.

If you're looking for the juiciest melt in your mouth roast pork, you have to come here! Don't be alarmed or turned off by the modest, hole in the wall appearance. It's cash only so visit the ATM before coming! Owners were nice, parking is decent but truly a hidden gem!

#29/365 I was in the area and had trouble deciding what I wanted to eat for dinner so I just decided to come here since I wouldn't have to wait for my food to be prepared. I ordered the one choice plate with chow mein and mushroom pork for $6.54. They have quite a small menu compared to other chinese places. Other items up front where your usual beef broccoli, lemon chicken which looked pretty good, I think chinese shoyu chicken, roast duck, some bitter melon dish, and a few other I didnt really recognize. They also have fried noodle dishes and hot noodle soup with char sui, roast duck and pork. By the window they even hang their roasted duck and charsiu and which is cut to order. As for my entree, it was pretty good. I liked the chow mein, not greasy at all so that was nice. As for the mushroom pork it was a hit and miss. Some pieces were soft and tender while most pieces were fatty and/or burnt and tough. The flavor was good though and I wished they actually had more mushroom pieces as there were only 2 and 2 sliced chestnuts :(. It was a good and satisfying dinner though; just dont know if i'd go back.

Great prices and lots of food for your money = GREAT VALUE! AND to top it all - A Great and Friendly Staff! Say "Hi" to Ben or John!

The best Roast Pork in Honolulu. They use only skin on pork belly to slow roast their crispy, crunchy, luxurious, and mouthwatering roast pork. Enough said! Except the new store is great and the plate lunch choices are super.
