Diabetics at Jamba Juice:

Eating good food at the right time can control your blood sugar, also stop you from craving wrong sort of food. Jamba Juice offers drinks in three separate sizes: 16, 24, and 32-ounce. You can choose the lowest serving size and cut down on sugars and calorie intake. If you're diabetic and concerned about the sugar intake, then you can opt for the smaller 9.5-ounce smoothies available for kids at Jamba Juice.

Foods to Avoid at Jamba Juice for Diabetics:

Keep the sugar content below 50g per meal at Jamba Juice and ensure that you don't follow it with a heavy meal. A small size regular smoothie is equivalent to a meal for everyone. Classic smoothies at Jamba Juice are also heavily loaded with sugars. Stay away from that section if you are a diabetic.

Can you see me flailing my white flag? I surrender to this place. I stop by here for an afternoon snack and always get the turkey sandwich (which is more of a meal than a snack). They cut it in half and I although I always have tons of self-talk (self, eat only half. Leave the rest for later. You can do it), I just can't help but gobbling up the entire thing, it's one of those days I'm on meal 3 of 4 at about four o'clock in the afternoon. The place isn't fancy. The workers aren't personable. But the food makes up for all of it. The sandwich comes on warm bread, flaky on the outside and soft on the inside. The veggies are amazing-pickled strips of absolute delightful that sets this sandwich apart from any other. And the icing on the cake? It's only $6. No wonder I'm addicted.

First time here. I noticed a "Best of Hawaii 2008" award sticker on the door. I didn't feel like eating the usually sold at Bale so I ordered the garlic chicken plate lunch. They said No garlic chicken plate lunch so they offered lemon grass chicken instead. So, I agreed with reservations. Then I saw old lady reach into the refrigerator and put some previous cooked chicken from Tupperware and put in microwave. Maybe it was her lunch... She then placed on my plate. I ran for the exit...

LOVED the Thai iced tea. 1 star for extremely bad customer service, 5 stars for the delicious Thai iced tea. 2 women were working today when I went in at 9:30am. The one that helped me did not know English, the second one did not help at all.

How is it possible these sandwiches are so delish and at such a fair price. I love this place!

This is my favorite bale location, but not today. I had to wait 15 minutes for a sandwich and two egg rolls. Then the lady (not the same person I see all the time) forgets to put the fish sauce in my take out. Thanks a lot.

I totally love this resteraunt! The flavors are amazing. My first time going here was with a friend and we shared the lemongrass chicken sandwhich and the spicy cucumber salad for lunch...it was delicous and we were both stuffed. Then a week later I had to share this experience and I brought my entire office from work there. I had the lemongrass chicken & shrimp combo for lunch and it was delicous and flavorful. My office mates all loved their food as well and told me that this place was a winner. On my last visit I took my son and he ordered the Basil Chicken and ordered the Pad Thai....my son is so in love with this place now, we both loved our food. Everything is always so delicious!

I'm sad that this is my neighborhood Bale cuz it's the worst. I went this past Sunday and ordered my usual veggie sandwich. The bread is always good and crusty but jeez, could there be any LESS veggies? A smattering of carrots, turnip and a sliver of cuke. I paid $4 and these particular veggies are cheap. Very disappointed that I can't get a substantial veggie sandwich here. Also, although the young counter girl asks as soon as you open the door what you want, she does it without a smile. You also feel pressure to order immediately. Don't think I'll be back.

Went here to buy jello for my mom tonight. The lady took the jello out of the case, inspected it and gave it to me. When I gave it to my mom she noticed white mold on the top! That was what the lady saw and still gave it to me!

This is my favorite Ba-Le in Honolulu - I feel like it is significantly less greasy than some of the other locations, and things taste fresher. My go-to meal is the tofu sandwich on French bread (hold the mayo) - great for a nice light lunch or snack. I also occasionally get some of the pre-made dishes on the side. My favorite pre-made dish from here has vermicelli noodles, tofu and mushrooms - yum! Also like the puddings to go if I need a sweet treat.

  • Jackie P.

Love this location because they have avocado! I usually get the chicken sandwich with avocado (costs about $1 more.) For extra flavor get the egg roll sauce and drizzle it inside your sandwich, yum yum!

The Thai iced tea bubble drink is good. I like the chicken sandwich and the spring rolls. Only bad factor is that they run out of Pho fast. My husband and i went here on a sunday around lunch time and the lady said they had run out of the soup. *Disappointing*. There aren't alot of tables to sit and eat and the space inside is minimal. Its hard for ppl with kids that have strollers. overall : Food 5 stars, location and service 2 stars (therefore, 3 stars became the outcome)

I'm a huge fan of Ba-Le! I wish I could replicate this review for all of their locations, because the service and food is pretty consistent across the board. But the Ba-Le Sandwich Shop at Kahala Mall is my second dinning room. The sweet, wonderful women who work here are the Vietnamese mothers I never had...and I never need to ignore a craving for French Bread Sandwiches, Lemongrass Chicken over rice noodles, Pho, or Boba Thai Iced Tea, because I know Ba-Le is right around the corner, ready to satisfy my most intense Vietnamese "fast" food cravings. I say it's "fast" food because you order at a counter and you get your food within 5 to 10 minutes...unless it's really, really, REALLY busy. No wait staff, no cloth napkins in your lap, and no "excuse me, we're ready for our check." However, calling Ba-Le "fast" food is quite the nutritional oxymoron. Ba-Le's food is prepared with fresh ingredients that never leave me feeling guilty about my meal. Nothing I've tried here (thus far) has been really greasy or fatty. Their sandwiches are served on a loaf of french bread with carrots, daikon (is that what the pickled white stuff is?) and parsley. I've only tried the turkey...which really hit the spot! Bonus: It was made with real turkey! (not luncheon meat...processed = fake) The Pho is pretty standard. As are their spring rolls, summer rolls, rice and rice noodle dishes. They always have a variety of tapioca puddings on hand to satisfy that post-meal sweet tooth, and they have about 5 flavors of bubble teas if that's more your style.

Terrible service & expensive! Pricier than all the other Bale shops. First they ran out of Thai tea & it's only noon. Then ran out of Root Beer. I ordered two sandwiches and a Thai tea, walked out with that plus a shrimp summer roll that I didn't order but paid for. I asked for extra napkins & she gives me only two small napkins, definitely not suffice. So disappointed in this Bale. Never going back.

I finally decided to give this "Finger Shrimps" dish a shot. My co-workers constantly rave about it and it seems as though they eat this particular dish at least a 2-3 times a week. yelp.com/biz_photos/MC7g… For $9+ you get 9 pieces of tasty shrimp rolls (why it wasn't 10, I don't know) along with rice vermicelli noodles, pickled veggies, tomatoes, lettuce and cucumbers. You can either roll up the contents in the lettuce and eat it as a burrito or cut up everything and eat it as a salad. yelp.com/biz_photos/MC7g… The shrimp was seasoned well with salt and pepper, simple but tasty and not overcooked. It was a very filling dish and aside from the fried shrimp rolls, it was healthy for the most part. I'm not big on Vietnamese food (even though I'm part Vietnamese), so Ba Le wouldn't be a first choice for me. But I would order this particular dish again. Another thing I would get from here is their Vegetarian Tofu Sandwich for $4.40. Those nicely-seasoned pieces of tofu along with chopped lettuce, peanuts, pickled veggies and light drizzle of a sweet shoyu concoction makes for a very filling, light meal. yelp.com/biz_photos/MC7g…

I've had banh mi's here many times and they were always really good, never disappointing. I had their papaya salad too and it was really good. Sometimes the ladies are nice and sometimes they don't acknowledge you but I can look past that. Their kitchen is really small and cluttered but if you can look past that too, you'll love this place. I always see the ladies wiping things down when their not doing anything so I'm sure they're clean and sanitary. Plus they always wear hair nets. When I'm here, after watching them diligently cook, I feel like I'm eating a home cooked meal and forget I'm at a restaurant. Sometimes it's a good thing when a restaurant shows their kitchen and sometimes it's not, some kitchens look really dirty but not this one. I just wish the ladies were more friendlier and smiled more. Nonetheless, this is probably my favorite Bale location.

Must try their French bread. It is warm & soft, yet perfectly crunchy. That's all I had but it was definitely enough. They are located on the back side of Kahala Mall, next to McDonald's.

Yum. The banh-mis or ginger chicken. Their bread is awesome and meat is cooked great. For Hawaii, I haven't found a better banh mi.

I love Ba Le. They make amazing sandwiches with weird but delicious ingredients... like pate. Yum! That said, I don't love this Ba Le. Of the five or so locations I've been to, this one's the worst. When I first walked in, I noticed the lady behind the counter doing time cards. (Could she be the owner? Quite possibly...) Maybe she didn't realize I walked in or maybe she wanted to finish up so I briefly scrolled through the sandwich menu. A minute later, I was done reading and had a couple questions for her... but she still hadn't even looked up to acknowledge me. I considered walking out, but figured Ba Le is healthier than McDonald's. I walked closer and stood in front of her for a moment. She looked up from her time cards and there was a brief pause where I thought she was going to smile and greet me. Nope. I thought wrong. No greeting from the owner, really? I asked her my questions and quickly ordered the Special Sandwich and an eggroll, my regular order at one of the other locations. She put away the time cards and told the ladies behind her my order. I handed her my card to pay while she continues to talk to the ladies behind her. It took her about a minute or so before she even went to process the transaction. I wondered why I didn't just listen to myself and walk out earlier. Then I wondered how much customers actually walk out due to the owner's tendency to ignore customers and lack of everyday manners. I received my sandwich soon after getting my card back and left. The Special Sandwich comes with headcheese, pate, steamed pork, ham, cucumber, pickled carrots, daikon, and mayo on french bread. They also have the option to sub out the baguette for croissant for an additional charge. The problem I had with the food was that it's too heavy on salt. Everything was salty, even the pickled veggies! Did they mistakenly throw in extra salt, thinking it was sugar?! The eggroll was on par with most of the other Ba Le, but the sauce that they give with it was salty too! Ack, attack of the salt! *shakes head no* No, no more salt! Somebody gimme water!! Price: Very decent! I think all sandwiches were under $6. Service: Fast, but you don't exactly feel like your patronage is appreciated. Food: Salty, salty, salty! Other: How about some napkins to go with my meal??

My alternative to fast food is the Spring roll and rice noodle. The Summer roll with Tofu and peanut sauce is a great healthy comfort food for me. The chicken sandwiches are yummy but tend to be heavy on cilantro which can taste overwhelming when you bite down.Unless you love that bitter flavor. They seem to use dark meat and chicken thigh for the sandwiches which is not personally my favorite, but it's cheaper that breast and white meat. Lemon Grass Chicken sandwich is great

The Olive Tree was closed so we decided to check this place out. The Vietnamese special sandwich was ok--nothing to write home about. The veggie noodles and veggie spring roll also did not stand out that much. At least the service was fast.

Having coming here for their french bread sandwiches back in the early 2000's, I return to Ba-Le because of a fellow Yelper who suggested to me that there is a Vietnamese beef stew that crosses American style of beef stew and Vietnamese Pho. Of course being a up in coming Pho junkie, I was interested in trying it. And so, in between Christmas shopping at Kahala Mall, I made my way here at 4:45pm and ordered the tantalizing broth. There were a couple of people there, along with the owner, I think. I looked at the prices at the price board above and noticed that the prices have gone way up. For a sandwich, it cost $4.90! I rather just go to Subway for that anyway. I had the lemon grass chicken plate before, which was pretty decent - although it was like 2 years ago. This time, I got the aformentioned Vietnamese beef stew. I got it to go. The service was fast as always, although I had to watch two women in the back of the counter talk in Vietnamese for a good 10 minutes. That part was just blah. I knew the summer rolls were fabulous here, but I gotten the stew. Anyway, the stew was decent - a taste of east and west that was particularly interesting. It wasn't thick at all, but more of a Pho consistency. I would consider buying it again, although its $7.25.

I always seemed to overlook Ba-Le (I have a severe dislike of pho and I suppose that lead to sweeping, misguided generalizations about Vietnamese food) until I started my new job near their Kahala Mall location -- and now it's my go-to sandwich spot. I used to frequent Whole Foods for a quick lunch stop, but when I saw that the rolls they used were from Ba-Le, I did a detour. My wallet thanks me. Their sandwiches are prepared fast and taste delicious. I also like their Thai iced tea, my favorite of all the bubble teas (which mostly has to do with the greatness of condensed milk). I've only tried their sandwiches so far, but they have such a good variety, I probably won't tire of their offerings any time soon.

  • Beerent G.

The pho is bland, its a good thing that hoi sin sauce tastes good. On the other hand my broth tasted like hoisin and rooster sauce. The sandwiches here are pretty good, a lot more healthier than next doors "pink slime".

Maybe because I spoke Vietnamese but my sandwiches were awesome! Granted they were $4.75/each which is crazy coming from orange county but I had a craving after the parasailing at Seabreeze Parasailing (next door). Anyway got the chicken and the pate and meat and both were perfect for a picnic at Hanauma Bay. Oh yeah and ask for it spicy if you like a kick!

My mom loves BaLe sandwiches. I guess they're okay.....I don't understand though why she insists on going at least twice a week. I guess the BaLe workers are the tiniest more friendly than the Kozo workers.....When she does manage to drag me along, I get the lemongrass chicken sandwich. The lemongrass marinade compliments the pickled daikon and cucumber perfectly and the french bread is always perfect. I would definitely choose BaLe over Subway any day, not to mention, BaLe is almost half the price. (Oh, btw, the Subway inside Kahala Mall charges a dollar extra/sandwich just because they can). I recently tried the Vietnamese Beef stew. It was like a spicy pho soup with chunks of beef, carrot and radish.... not stew. I'll just stick with the sandwiches next time.

This is where I get one of my most favorite sandwiches. I'm not a fan of their pho and some of the other dishes which I find a little expensive based on quality/quantity, but it's the pate and steamed pork sandwich on a french roll that keeps me coming back. The silky richness of the pate, the crunch and balance of the pickled carrots and daikon, cilantro, shoyu sauce (no mayo), on a fresh heated french roll is amazing. I go here often due to convenience, but you can get this at any of their locations.

I wish this Ba-le were as good as the Ward Avenue Ba-le! The selection of the ready-made meals are so limited. The selection at Ward is huge with about 15-20 different ready made lunches/meals to choose from. The Kahala Ba-le has none of that. Maybe it's because it doesn't have the customer traffic that Ward has. The chicken pho and the sandwiches are good though.

You can never go wrong with ba le! Fast service and a great grab and go Vietnamese style sandwiches. I love the honeydew bubble drink because it's not slushy like the other places. It's like milk tea but only milk honey due. Love it!

Default place for a good lunch on the weekend. Love the french bread with ham and steamed pork, coupled with a sweet potato tapioca for dessert. The french bread is crispy and fresh with veggies including daikon, carrots and parsley. So many choices for tapioca. If you're not feeling like a sandwich, there are noodle dishes, spring rolls that are light and refreshing.

What a big disappointment. I love vietnamese sandwiches, a staple of mines back in the Bay area. There weren't many sandwich options and I went with the char sui, same did the bf. The bread was nice and crunchy but the baguette was small. It costs soo much to get one here and didn't even fill us up. Sadness. And they don't even sell many of other things. It was nice to actually speak in vietnamese but this place a such a no go.

I'm so sad this is my neighborhood BaLe because I cannot eat there. I didn't find a critter in my sandwich like the other reviewer, but they have "forgotten" to make my order though they didn't forget to take my money and argue with me that I had already received it, and while they have a good sandwich selection they don't have as many good options for plates. My favorite dish at BaLe Kailua is tofu curry with noodles, and my friend's is chicken curry with noodles. They don't have tofu curry here, and their chicken curry is just chicken pieces baked with curry powder on white rice--nothing else. Why--who knows? I only know I'm never going back.

Well, I'm sorry about your experience but even in the best of restaurants it can potentially happen. I worked for 30 years in the business, all around the world, and it happened rarely but it did happen and I was a cleanliness nut. The chefs hated me for this. I am now out of that business. As to sneezing into the food well if they are not experienced, it is hard to find experienced and trained people, more so now but even in the old days, you should tell the owner. I am sure she would correct it immediately; this is after all her livelihood. My personal experience of this sandwich shop over many years is that it has only gotten better, I live close by in Kahala, the ladies that work their bend over backwards to make exactly the type of sandwich you want and for the most part are uniformly pleasant. The Oxtail soup which my wife likes is outstanding, if you want avocado added to your sandwich they only put it on if they think it is ripe enough. The French bread is very good and the croissants depend on the batch (occasionally a little dry). Generally speaking though all the food tastes great, I only wish they had crab/imitation crab sandwiches. And in more than 14 years, I think, of visiting this shop I have never once gotten food poisoning, which is more than I can say for some other haunts. The current owner a Vietnamese lady is a delight and tries hard to please and always has her fellow workers cleaning the place when it is slow. Highly recommended.

The vegetarian tofu sandwich is very good, their version even has some peanuts which makes the sandwich taste even better. : ) I've just got a few things to mention: - I feel that the breads, both the french and croissant are shrinking. I hope they increase the breads just a bit to make it feel like a meal instead of a snack. - Sometimes they have forgotten to put the sauce in the sandwich because of too much talking between the people who work there. - When they get very busy, they need to pay attention their list of who ordered first. I had ordered ahead of 2 people and they got their orders first when I was in a rush and was standing in line for much longer. This Bale branch is one of the cleaner ones I've been to so I'll be back. :)

It's like fresh fast food. It's quick but the food tastes yummy and it doesn't seem as processed (I have no idea how fresh it really is!). I stick with the vietnamese sandwiches--either on a roll of a croissant. I personally love it on the croissant because it's softer and so buttery. And the chicken and veggies are so good. The rolls are good too but be careful because sometimes the rolls have been sitting out all day and the outer shell is already hard and chewy. If you can get fresh rolls, then go for it, otherwise just be careful. If you get a roll and you prefer the fish sauce to the heavy peanut sauce, you can get it but you just have to request it! If you want 2, they'll charge you though :( The pho is also good but somehow, I'm always hungry 2 hours after I eat. And then the desserts--nothing fancy but just tasty: the tapioca, stripped jello, and flans. They're not super friendly but don't let that put you off. All in all, for what it is; it's one of my favorite "fast food" places when I want to also feel good about what I'm eating!

During my recent trip to Hawaii, we stayed at a friends house in the Kahala area. For lunch one day, I really wanted something "healthier" than all of the food we've been eating on our trip and remembered seeing Ba-Le while we were at the mall. So the boyfriend and I decided to go to Ba-Le to get some sandwiches. We ordered the vegetarian tofu sandwich, curry chicken sandwich, and vegetarian rolls. First of all, I noticed that the prices were so high! But I can't complain since it might just be a Hawaii thing. Being from San Jose, our sandwiches all run around $2.25, and most places all have great tasting sandwiches. This was not the case at Ba-Le. The sandwiches and rolls were way overpriced, and were very bland and did not taste fresh at all. $14 for two sandwiches and rolls, you gotta be kidding me. I don't mind the higher prices since we were in a different geographical area, but the food was just borderline horrible. Funny thing is, I heard from a friend that the family who owns this chain VIetnamese sandwich shop is super rich. Sad, i wish i could get super rich off shitty food.

They have redeemed themselves. Knew what I wanted and got in and got out. For a quick, healthy bite to eat, I love coming here. But forget it, I'm not sending anyone to pick up my food from here anymore. I'm going straight down to get what I want for myself. I got the Vietnamese Stew finally and I'm all good.
