Diabetics at Jamba Juice:

Eating good food at the right time can control your blood sugar, also stop you from craving wrong sort of food. Jamba Juice offers drinks in three separate sizes: 16, 24, and 32-ounce. You can choose the lowest serving size and cut down on sugars and calorie intake. If you're diabetic and concerned about the sugar intake, then you can opt for the smaller 9.5-ounce smoothies available for kids at Jamba Juice.

Foods to Avoid at Jamba Juice for Diabetics:

Jamba Juice is primarily known for its highly satisfying and nutritive smoothies and juices. Almost every smoothie and juice item on the Jamba Juice menu contains sugar. Diabetics are recommended to opt for smaller serving size while ordering at Jamba Juice. Also, avoid opting for creamy treats as all the smoothies offered in this category contain a load of sugars.

Keep the sugar content below 50g per meal at Jamba Juice and ensure that you don't follow it with a heavy meal. A small size regular smoothie is equivalent to a meal for everyone. Classic smoothies at Jamba Juice are also heavily loaded with sugars. Stay away from that section if you are a diabetic.

great for fast Pho. lots of fried food, sandwiches

The Pho is okay and everything else is mediocre. The restaurant looks like it has been thrown in the dump and has been left to rot for centuries. It was such a small place and was probably made in the 80's and they never cleaned it yet. I saw a cockroach on the table crawling around on the table. I was disgusted by the sanitization this restaurant brought me. I left feeling regret that I just wasted money on this restaurant. This place is great if you want insects all over your table.

For about $5, I had a Bale sandwich that was about a foot long. Sandwich consisted of bread stuffed with meat, mayonnaise, cilantro, cucumber, and Vietnamese white radish and carrot pickles. There was a choice of bread so I chose wheat bread. During a night visit, I ate the ham sandwich and while it was tasty, it was a bit too salty. In addition, the Bale worker put too much Vietnamese white radish and carrot pickles at night time! This was 3 stars for me. During a morning visit, I ate the turkey sandwich. It tasted good and had the right amount of sodium in it. The Bale worker put the right amount of Vietnamese white radish and carrot pickles in the morning. This was 4 stars for me. As for the lines, there were practically no lines at all. Only a few people in line. Makes it easy to buy a sandwich and begin eating in a couple of minutes. For seating area, you have to find a seat in the Manoa Garden since that's where seats are located. Half the eatery is Bale and the other half is Manoa Garden. During the night, it's hard to find a seat since almost all the seats are taken. During the morning, it's still hard to find a seat since people like sitting in such ways that well aren't that great if you want to eat with a friend. It's like people are playing a sitting game where there's like one seat space between two diners! I decided to sit outside under the umbrellas. Made life less awkward.

There are some things I really love about bale and some things I really do not like. The things that I don't like - ALL of their food with the exception of sandwiches and tapioca. Their pad thai in my opinion is inconsistent, and when it's bad, it's BAD. The taste is not fresh and their noodles are soggy at best. Their curry? Extremely watered down and also a really funky taste. Their chicken has this consistency about it like it was frozen and then microwaved. It's kind of chewy with a strange taste. But with those out of the way, I love their sandwiches. Their french bread is amazing, and although sometimes they can overdo it with the pickled carrots and daikon, that is something which can be easily fixed. Tapioca. AMAZING! I have to admit I swing by just to pick it up and eat it while walking to class. Definitely one of my guilty pleasures. The alcohol and atmosphere of the dining room area is nice too. Sometimes I like to just grab a beer and listen to the conversations going on around me. There's usually some really intellectual discussions happening here with a fresh mix of professors, students, etc. I never see anyone totally shwasted and making fools of themselves. Alcohol (in watchfulness) is a great tool for intellectual discourse, which is one of the things I love about Universities. All in all I don't have to get the food I don't like and Bale is a great place to have a beer and meet with friends/acquaintances.

I always come here, since Campus Center is always so packed and I don't have to weave my way through %&*$(@()#*@&($@(*#&$#&$@#)(%&!(@*&@!#((*@# construction that will take another 8 years to complete. Anyways, I like the food here. Standard Bale fare, nothing fancy. I usually get the ham and pate sandwich, or an order of pad thai. The sandwich line is always longer so I tend to get pad thai more often. Sometimes I just grab their spring or summer roll combos, which are great too -- they don't really fill me up though :P I always get the pad thai, but it's not very pad thai-ish. It's still good though, but if you're expecting a really authentic pad thai, don't. As a noodle dish though, it's tasty. I always put a lot of Sriracha to give it a little more of a kick. The ladies aren't the most outgoing, but they are efficient. Even if they are very busy, do NOT give them attitude. This one time I went in line to get pad thai, and I was standing behind these two white girls who were SOOOOO obnoxious. The Bale ladies weren't even busy, but one clearly thought so little of the way the girls were acting that she dilly-dallied with cleaning the pho station when she could have easily come over and given the girls their pad thai. The girls were scoffing and saying some pretty rude things. Finally after about 10 minutes, the woman finally came over and dished out their orders. I am always friendly with them so whenever I go to the pad thai line, one of the ladies will always come over immediately even if they have a long sandwich line to give me my order. The cashier ladies are very nice! The younger girl with the curls is so cute and friendly!

Bale is way cheaper than eating anywhere else on campus. And the bar in there has pretty awesome happy hour. Seriously, the prices are great. Very surprising. So I can see how easily it might be for someone to get totally plastered in between classes... And the biology office is right across the road. (I got my Bachelor's in Biology BTW.) The pho here is not bad. I'm surprised that it actually comes close to piping hot like it's supposed to. One would think the pho here would be mediocre and luke warm, sans the veggies and skimping on the meat... Well, that's what I thought. Fortunately, I always expected the worst and I always received way better quality than I had initially expected. And they don't skimp on the noodles or meat, surprisingly. (Or maybe I was lucky?) The summer rolls and spring rolls that are already pre-made and packaged aren't bad either. And, the sandwiches are actually pretty good and fresh-ish. I don't think I would ever go out of my way to visit this location. Well, not unless I was on campus... Campus Center is way too expensive these days. 3 stars for convenience, accessibility on campus, affordability, happy hour prices, and 3/4 way decent pho.

The Ba Le on UH Manoa's campus is a great place to get a sandwich or curry. I have eaten the tuna sandwich which is delicious, but I mostly go there for the tofu eggplant curry. I get it with the brown rice and it is really good. I've had the chicken and potato curry (usually when they are out of the tofu and eggplant) but I don't think it is as good.

Conveniently located on campus, this place is my go-to for lunch! It's quick, cheap and good- they also accept meal blocks + points which was super useful since I moved out of the dorms and never ate at their cafeteria and had so much blocks + points left. I've tried a lot of their menus since they pretty much have the same entrees everyday. I wish they'd switch it once in a while. For the sandwich, I usually order chicken or lemongrass chicken on croissant. I've also tried their pad thai, which is alright. Their curry is a little too much on the sweet side for me. I'd go to India Cafe on campus if I was craving curry. Their spring rolls are pretty legit, but instead of using the sauce that comes with, I normally use the sweet chili sauce instead. Another one of my faves is their hot paninis, especially their turkey panini. It has turkey, swiss cheese and some dried tomato paste- aaah so good. PHO. how can i forget their pho. I'm so accustomed to their pho since I used to eat it almost everyday. I always get it with the flank steak, rare beef and beef balls. It's super hot and fatty- I like to drench it with garlic chili for a kick of spicyness. For the price $6ish, I'd say its pretty delish. I'm craving it as I'm writing this!

This is such a conveinient location. It usually isn't busy around 11 but when it's noon it gets busy. The service isn't the greatest. I've had to wait 10 minutes just to get a sandwich and when I made a special request about a sandwich I got glared at and my food was shoved at me. If I didn't love the daikon, shoyu and mayo they put on the sandwhich I wouldn't come here. It's also cheap and close and they have a bar! I head the dead men's ale is amazing!

A lot of my daily cravings can be satisfied by Bale. They offer items such and Vietnamese sandwiches ($4-6), curry ($6), buns, a wide range of desserts, spring rolls, and other snacks and goodies. Their chicken spring rolls are absolutely delicious and are only $1.05 each! Their pho isn't that large, but it's the only place on campus that you can bury your face in some piping hot steam. Pad Thai is one of my personal faves but it gets a bit too strong at times. Bale is affordable, with the most expensive item at $6.50. Bubble drinks make my day. They don't have the fruity fun ones, but they have the coffee or thai iced tea bubble drinks at a decent price. PLUS, right after exams or finals, Manoa Gardens is perfect for grabbing a drink and destressing.

Back when I was an undergrad attending school this was one of my most preferred favorite spots to grind, get lunch, and/or get a snack to eat. I like their sandwiches. You get to choose your own bread and what kind of sandwich you want from french, croissant, multi-grain, and ciabatta. I always get the croissant. You can also choose your meat from tofu, chicken, tuna, etc. They have other foods as well such as soups, pho, salads, manapua, various desserts, chips, cookies, drinks, egg rolls, rolls, etc. The staff and customer service is good. They are always good and on it from the counter people to the cashiers. They are always friendly. The prices are decent too. Compared to the other places to eat on campus this is one of the most reasonable choices. It's located in Manoa Gardens and right under Hemenway Hall next to the Leisure Center. You can dine in and eat at the restaurant or eat outside. Dining in is cool because they have a TV so you can watch anything that is playing and talk story with friends. Yelp 365 Challenge #231/365

Sandwiches are skimpy here but for the price, it is reasonable. There are not many choices on campus so Ba-le is a good standby.

What the heck? I've never been to a Bale like this one. There is a bar inside, by the seating area, and during the morning you can watch Good morning, America! on their TVs. Very strange. I saw a lot of people getting the iced coffee, so maybe I'll try that next time. There is a good variety of food and it is pretty cheap, but I would rather just eat at campus center.... :/

  • Nicole R.

I'm a student here and although Bale off campus is known to be a Vietnamese restaurant (which it is on campus) it's really known for Manoa Gardens (the on campus watering hole, aka bar). I really love their sandwiches, egg rolls and pad thai. They're really fast (with the exception of being really busy) and efficient and like many other reviews they're also pretty cheap. An egg roll is $1, sandwiches are about $4-6, half pad thai is $3. Everything else on the menu is under $10. So being a student on a tight budget and is trying to buy lunch and walk back to class in 15, Bale is nice and convenient for me. Recently, Ive been going to Bale more often this semester because of the construction going on in campus center. It takes way too long for me to go to any of the food places there and back to class than just going to Bale. Also I always know what Bale has so I can't go wrong. The place in campus center is always changing their menus, except for a few vendors, but its still too inconvenient for me. Oh, if it's your birthday and you're nice to the bartender and if you get your friends to say it out loud at the bar, people will buy drinks for you :D

Bum Mi is pretty easy to make, freal, and 3.75 for a chicken sandwich is kinda steep considering at lee's sandwiches you can do better for 3$ but hey it is on campus and it's still pretty good. My biggest gripe with them is their summer hours suck 11am opening is too late for my 10am bun mi cravings, and i assure you i have these cravings regularly. They have yeo soymilk tho which if you're like me is comfort food so i like that.

I am uninspired by this Ba Le on the UH campus at Hemenway Hall. They don't seem to really put in the right amount of condiments to make my banh mi go. It always seems a little dry and not enough hoi sin or fish sauce along with the daikon and cilantro. Plus, while it's not their fault, I hate having fish sauce on my hands going back to work. It feels choke icky. I bet no one has ever said "choke icky" ever in the history of Western Civilization. Can get a "first to say" on Yelp? I usually get the chicken meatball banh mi on a french roll. The other day, the meatball seemed to have bone bits in it too. I guess the microwave didn't take care of that on reheat. I don't know what it is because I usually like banh mi places, but I really don't like going here. Maybe I'm just being moody and I am sorry to take it out on this one. However, the Ba Le/Le Tour empire here on Oahu seems to be doing just fine so one mediocre review shouldn't shut the place down.

Best bale on the island. Only bale I know of that has a bar in it! The guy who decided to put a bar in a Vietnamese resturaunt surrounded by college students is a genius! This Bale may not be the best place to get bahn mi or pho but after a few drinks it may become the one of the healthier choices to make in dining. On the other end It would just be nasty if it were burger King or mcdonalds with a bar inside.

Yummy but a little stingy on the coffee. Good priced sandwiches and paninis are great. Good beer size and price. Good service. Can get over crowded and they do run out of fresh food at night time.

I've been here on multiple occasions when the food at the cafeterias near the student housing is not exactly what I want, but after eating, I usually ask myself why I came in the first place. On multiple occasions friends and I have been served items that are not what we've ordered, such as my experience today. I received a ham and pâté sandwich with everything (mayo, cilantro, vegetables, cucumber, etc.) when I asked for a ham sandwich without mayo and cilantro. I was so confused with the result that I told the cashier, but to no degree was I helped at all. I was hoping for a new sandwich, but was charged for the sandwich I received. A friend I've been with for dinner once also ordered a turkey sandwich and received tofu, a bit more understandable, but I'm still confused about where "Pâté" was even brought up in my order?! Many other times I've been here I've gotten the chicken pho, but the noodles were not all in the water, making them at best, crunchy. Yikes! The service here is either really nice (cashier during dinner or at the Thai tea and coffee bubble tea station) or really rude to which I am greeted with a "what do you want?" Oh sorry, I forgot food here was served with a side of sass. It will be a while before I come back here again.

FOOD: Go here for the banh mi and curry, not the pho. Cafe sua da aka viet coffee is cheap and hits the spot. So smooth, sweet and creamy. Probably a zillion calories per cup. When I'm really slumming it, I come here for a $3.75 pad thai. They pack a styro soup container. The pad thai isn't pad thai, but it's filling. They used to have banh su aka viet cream puffs in their dessert case, but haven't seen those in a while. They've replaced them with parfaits topped with La Tour macarons and tiramisu. They've also got La Tour panins in limited supply here. French, ciabatta and multigrain loaves are for sale all week, but marked down on Fridays. SERVICE: I've been at the g.d. university foreverrrr and everyone that works here knows me. Wouldn't be surprised if they start playing the Cheers theme the next time I walk in. I get smiles and "How's your day/week/husband been?" all the time. But when lines get long and blood pressure rises because eleven people are ordering vegetarian pho, there'll be some straight up mean muggin' going on. And when the pros are trying to turnover the banh mi line, don't be offended by the, "HI CAN I HELP YOU??!!". Don't take the harsh tone personally--unless you were waiting in line 10 minutes and then only started reading the menu when you were up to bat. If this is you, then yeah, it's personal. (Insert me mean muggin). All that being said, I'd say they're really good at having someone hop on a second register to relieve the traffic congestion. AMBIENCE / LOCATION: Located just a short walk from Campus Center on the bottom floor of Hemenway Hall.

The environment of this place is chill and lax almost like a bar but with wifi, college students and laptops. This place also has a Manoa Garden here. Not too sure if they had a happy hour over here. I hope they do. The place even has two TVs but they're usually on the sports ESPN channels so don't get too excited if you wanted to watch the newest Once Upon A Time episode. The food is okay here. I usually get the dark chocolate dipped croissants here. I thought that this item made this place special to me. I love it and it doesn't melt too easily. The best part is that it's only around $1.50. The sandwiches are the same as any other Bale on the island. They have a place where you can get your condiments like Sriracha so all you California people go for it! The drinks here are pricey but less than that of other bars in town. It's like $4 for a small if you want an import beer. I think I ordered either an IPA or Stella? Forgot but you could end up spending a lot on drinks here and I wish the sizes were bigger for the dollar. If you ask me I would rather go to beer garden down at shirokiya for food and drinks and its Japanese so you can't go wrong. Other than that this place is okay if you want to pregame real quick.

Always hits the spot when I don't want to drive off campus to get pho. Takes card and has decent options. Seen students order a pad thai and ask for curry sauce on top. Banh mi's are alright. They offer desserts, spring rolls, pupus and drinks. Takes credit card. Busy during peak student hours.

1.22.13 Looking for something fresh & filling for lunch? Bale's the place to go! This review is for the UH location but I loved also going to the previous downtown location, which is sadly now closed. (I believe there is a super small location located in a mini mart along Fort Street Mall...but that place feels a little dirty haha). I usually go with the Chicken Sandwich ($4.50) on the original french bread. Their breads are SUPER YUMMY, baked fresh daily. If anyone is interested in just buying their bakery/bread products they sell their goods on Tuesday's & Friday's in the downtown farmer's markets! This sandwich is just plain chicken (the lemongrass chicken sandwich is also super popular). It also comes with a special mayo/sauce/shoyu, pickled carrots and daikon (radish) piled high, and parsley. You don't want to miss out on this yummy goodness! At UH it depends what time you go, but the wait usually isn't long to get your order made. Regardless, its worth the wait for the price and the amount of food you get (it can last for two meals for me) you can't go wrong! Yelp 365 Challenge: #022/365 Edit: I just stumbled across a Bale in the Remington College eatery place--whooo! More convenient locations to get my Bale on!

Cockroaches. Be careful when ordering sandwiches. While in line I saw a cockroach crawl in and out of the ham container. Where there is one, there are many. I'm going to stick with home lunch.

Bale is a solid choice at UHM. On a campus without many viable food options, you can get a lot worse than the Hemenway Hall Bale. I really only come to Bale when I have specific cravings for pseudo-not-really-healthy food (i.e. spring rolls on rice noodles...yum) but obviously if you're a hardcore Vietnamese food lover, you'll probably give this place, like, 2 stars. Personally, I like their Thai bubble tea, and I can appreciate the variety of food choices they offer. Haven't come here to use the bar, but most of the time it looks like a hangout for white grad students :P Oh and the cashier with the pink/blue/colored hair is cool.

On campus we were heading back to the parking structure when we came across the Ba-Le Sandwich Shop. It was already lunch time so we figured why not grab food from here. Not much people. I didn't know there were separate lines for their sandwiches and pho. Since I had a sandwich the other day I ordered pho. The beef, brisket and meatball one. They cooked the beef and meatballs on their stove next to the items. They have trays for the pho which they handed over. Difficult, especially when you're trying not to spill. It is cafeteria style so there were other fridges that stored drinks and other cold snacks. Other areas there are displays with more food if sandwiches or pho isn't what you're craving. $7 for this and it's alright. Sauces are provided after ordering, along with other sauces. Outdoor seating is provided. There's two TVs playing on different channels. Some variation of table and seating. Also a bar area.

It's my last semester at UH so I thought to myself, "Why not? Let's try something new for a change." That's when I decided to go all the way across campus for Bale. I always questioned myself as to why I never did so earlier and...now I know why. The food is overpriced and the taste is mediocre at best. I was in no rush before my mandatory meeting in two hours and decided to try one of Bale's noodle salads. So...how long was that left out? The noodles were difficult to grab because they were soggy and the spring rolls inside were obviously not fresh. I seriously would have thrown it away if it didn't cost me a whopping $6. At least there's condiments on the side to drown out the original flavor, I guess.

I don't usually go out of my way to eat at BaLe anymore. I see them more as a gateway restaurant into the wonderful world of Vietnamese food. It was, after all my first Vietnamese food experience (at the Kahala Mall BaLe many many years back). Since then I've been to, and experienced, many other Vietnamese restaurants, and have seen that there is so much more out there than BaLe. PROS: + The best (only) Vietnamese food on campus! + BaLe bread + Pupu menu at pauhana time + Open later than other things on campus + There's a bar next to it! CONS: - Not the best deal in town. It can be kind of pricey for what you get - Most of the workers aren't very personable - They're like Nazis with the utensils, and sauce cups - Lines can get long at times This location is a little different, though, because of the circumstances that surround it. What sets this BaLe location apart from others is that it's on the University of Hawaii Manoa campus. This makes a big difference because they've got a captive audience here, and they're the only option for any kind of South-East Asian food on campus. They've got the standard BaLe items, like bahn mi sandwiches, summer rolls and pho, but they also got some other hot foods, like curries, noodles, spring rolls, salads, sandwiches, pizza, and chicken wings. They also serve some kind of sweet and creamy iced coffee/tea drink. I'm not sure exactly what it is because I've never ordered one before, but my co-worker seem to love it. Another great thing about this location is that it's open later than the other eateries on campus because it's connected to the on campus bar, Manoa Gardens. They also have a pupu menu that starts in the afternoon just in time for the after class/work crowd. I've stopped by the bar a few times after work to watch a game on TV, or listen to a band in the courtyard, and I've ordered some of the pupus from BaLe. The service here isn't the friendliest. Most of the food servers behind the counters seem like they have just about no personality when it comes to serving their customers. The cashiers, on the other hand are usually personable enough, and seem to remember their regulars. The cashiers are also the guardians of utensils and sauce cups. Apparently you have to ask a cashier for it if you don't want to eat with your fingers, or want to put sauce in something other than your dish. Unfortunately they don't tell you this until after you pay, and are standing at the sauce station looking for cups and utensils. But apparently if you're a regular they'll give it to you when you pay. If not, then you've got to ask for it. Can you tell that I wasn't given any of those things when I paid? It's a good option if you're already on campus, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here to eat. Especially with the cost of parking on Campus. It's pretty much your standard BaLe minus some of the normal variety, but with some extras to compliment the bar that's in the same room. Check it out if you're on campus during lunch, or meeting up with someone to watch a game at the bar.

I tried other Ba-Le in the island & they did WAY better than the UHM Ba-Le. Here are the problems & strongly suggested to need improvement: 1. Wrong bread for the banh mi. Correct bread is ALWAYS a baguette. If you want options, sourdough baguette, or any other type of flavor (i.e. garlic flavor). But it HAS TO BE baguette. 2. For the sandwich itself, needs gio. (Viet meatloaf) combine with the usual meats you normally have for the sandwich. 3. For the pho, it's slightly oily & the broth is missing scents of ginger, roast onions, and star anise spice. 4. Pho is a bit too pricey. Though, there are some things I do like about your restaurant & you should keep it up: 1. Pricing is acceptable for the sandwich. 2. Sandwich contains pickled carrots, raw peppers, pate, and butter. That's good. That's what a typical banh mi sandwich should have. 3. It's in the University campus. Very good to introduce Vietnamese culture to the campus & students get to "technically" taste a sandwich that is way better than subway. Overall, I'm sorry to give you such a low score of 1 star of 5. I do suggest to follow these suggestions stated above to help improve your restaurant. Hope your business improves in the future.

Aside for cheap and delicious Vietnamese food, this place has a full bar. Right on the campus of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. If you're 21+ I would recommend that this is the spot to go. There's cheap beer and it's a great atmosphere when they dim the lights and give it more of a lounge feel. Oh and did I mention the bartenders are awesome? By far some of the best people to make friends with on campus! So if you're looking for a place that has good food, or a place to unwind after class make this place your next stop, trust me you won't regret it.

Oh pho, I miss you pho, I miss you so !!!! On my top things that I miss from the States that I can not find (thus far) in Florence ... is pho. It's my feel good food . . . big bowl of broth, bean sprouts, basil, pepper, tofu and of course rice noodles. One bowl of this magic combo can calm my most stormy nerves. So needless to say I came here quite frequently . . . during my school days. I agree with Grace O. this place is nothing fancy (I love it) . They've got pho, a handful of pre-made salads, wraps, rice paper wraps with peanut sauce. You also have the choice of ordering a sandwich with your own choice of ingredients. In the same building as Bale, there is a bar so you can order alcoholic drinks or BAle has drinks such as cold jasmine tea (my favorite) or tapioca ball drinks, soda, water, thai iced tea (all bottled) . Coming here during the lunch rush hours it can be tough to find a table, even outside. Bale . . . to this day I still pronounce this place like BAIL (instead of BA-le) because when my mom came to visit me at school she asked me ' oh what kind of food is "BAIL"?' I started laughing b/c she always pronounces things wrong and well, ever since I just kept calling it BAIL . . . what can I say old habits die hard I love you BAIL !

On my first day on campus, we looked around to see what kinds of food they offered here. subway, taco bell, jamba juice...eh, everything you can find in CA. then I stumbled upon Ba Le. let me just say...hell to the yeah. They serve vietnamese sandiches, pho, curry, lunch plates, and pu pu (which are appetizers). the best part is that there is a bar here too that offers kona brews, island brews, and other beers you can et anywhere else. I got the lemongrass chicken sandwich on a french roll (you can choose your bread: ciabatta, croissant, french bread, and multi-grain). the ladies were so sweet. once they knew i could speak vietnamese, they HOOKED it up and were extra nice to me and my buddy mario who got the ham and pate sandwich on ciabatta. after we got our sandwiches, we headed over to the bar and got the local pale ale. DELISH!!!! we sat outside and my sandwich was filled with flavorful, juicy chcken, cucumber, cilantro, jalepenos, and pickled carrots and daikon (the usual fixings for a vietnamese sammich) the lady also put some shoyu (soy sauce) and siracha for me. Mario's sandwich had the same fixings but with ham and lots of yummy pate. I got to try both, and they were DELICIOUS. i definitely liked mine a lot better than marios (they kinda skimped on the meat and loaded up on the veggies). but the beer, the sun, and the crunchy flavorful sandwiches made my first on campus experience a promising one. when i start getting sick of dorm food, or just want a great sandwich, i know i can count on ba le =)

The people who work there are painfully friendly, but I have to say.........."their food's not hot sh*t, it's cold diarrhea." Snorting chalk leaves a better aftertaste.

Sometimes eating at the Cafeteria in Campus Center can get very... tiring. So this would probably be the third option for food for me since it's near Sinclair Library after Subway. BaLe... pho, sandwiches, salads, thai tea, ... beer! Food isn't too bad, nor is it the best. But I did get a small kine stomach ache from the salad one time.. Never again for salad. Usually I order a sandwich or... I should keep this a secret but for the sake of yelp, I usually order their fried rice and ask for some curry sauce on top. It's only five dollars, and the ladies didn't mind for me to do that, thank you! Service, it's pretty decent, especially when they let me off having a bit of curry on my rice. Gave it a little more flavor. Hah. But really, people do come here for something different, and those who are old enough normally come here for the bar they have inside. Some don't know what the Manoa Garden is, but it's the bar inside BaLe. That's what they call the "Manoa Garden." Sometimes drunk people can be drunk people, so there was a small problem in BaLe one time at the bar. Apparently someone (A) was talking stink about another (B) so B got up, and starting yelling. A was being calm and then B took off his shirt and called on his homies to come around. After about 20 minutes later, the security arrived. Pretty funny how he reacted, but it's BaLe. The place can be really dirty, especially later on in the day when people just don't care to trash all their food items. The workers there do try to clean, but sometimes, they can't, so I suggest you clean the tables and such yourself before seating. Learned that the hard way when I found a stain on my backpack. Best part here besides the bar, there is television! Huzzah! Can watch the tube and eat to your delight, but you can't change the channel unless you ask. BaLe also has some good music playing (during the time, I heard music from the late 90s to the early 2000), which is nice.

My friend goes to UH at Manoa so I came here with her for some student org group thing that was going while I was visiting. Anyway, I didn't really try the food. She ha a plate of fries and I munched on them. While hot and crunchy they were also quite greasy and tasted like they had been frozen before. The people working here are super friendly though sometimes a bit forgetful when you're ordering. The real reason to come here is the cheap beer. They offer a 32 oz beer (of anything on tap) for $5.75. It's a ridiculously good deal and I appreciated partaking in that offer while here.

#64/365 Out of all the food places to eat on campus Bale is prob my fave. I esp love their banh mi sandwiches and they even have paninis. Compared to other bale shops, its also nice that they give you a choice of sandwich bread. Besides the usual french bread they also have croissant, multi grain, and ciabatta. I also like that you can get pho here...yeah, it may not be the best tasting pho but when you only have an hour lunch break and you're craving for pho then it'll do :-P. Their ice coffee is also pretty good, its not too strong like the ones at other vietnamese restaurants (which some people dont like) but it is a bit too sweet for my taste. They also offer some dessert like tiramisu cakes, almond floats, chocolate covered croissants, various flavors of tapioca (sweet potato, banana, papaya, chocolate, etc). After 2pm they also have a pupu menu consisting of fried items. The bale here is also cheap and easy on the college student wallet, which is always a plus ;).

Bale on the UH campus is really terrible. I ordered the chicken sandwich & everything was completely dried. They must have put all the ingredients, including the bread, in the dehydrator because the chicken, carrot & onion veggies were awfully dry, dry, dry. Where did all the flavor run to? They are usually pretty moist, flavorful & tasty at the other Bale locations. If you're on campus, do yourself a favor & just go eat a sandwich from Subway.

Ba-Le is a good stop for busy students on campus. They have a range of things on their menu for students to eat. From sandwiches, to salads, to curry, to pho, there's usually something for everyone to eat. Their sandwiches are pretty good - I've always loved the lemongrass chicken and roast beef. You can add cheese, and choose to have their pickled veggies or fresh veggies inside. The choice is yours! Their pho is nothing special, but it isn't bad. I've always come here for a quick pho fix when I can't get off campus fast enough. Their curry is also pretty good. They have both chicken and tofu curry (for all you vegetarians out there) as well as fried rice and eggrolls for lunch. Theres a pupu menu for anytime after 2:30 or 3 (I think) which is also great if you want something to munch on. Overall, it's a good place to meet up with people on campus and eat. Just be aware it gets crowded sometimes. Don't forget: They take meal plans too!

UGHHHH. I can't remember the last time I ate something so bad that it made me have watery diarrhea poop immediately after. I know, I know. This is TMI and just disgusting, but that's basically what the food does to you. It's so repulsive your body has to have it out just as quickly as you put it in. I should note that the sandwiches, for the most part, are good. Yet their are not consistently good. Some days the french bread is soft and fresh, others it feels like you're gnawing at slabs of stone. The meats on the sandwiches vary in freshness and flavor, so you're in for a real goody bag of potential suckiness when you order them. As for the rest of the menu: Hot Wings -- had them once, never again. First of all, the BBQ sauce on them was so burnt and sour tasting, and it was caked onto the wings (not saucey, it was literally like a frosting texture). I tried my best to salvage them by scraping it off with no such luck. Even the ranch dressing dip that they provide couldn't save them. Oh, and the wings were undercooked, so two of the eight I received were raw and inedible. Pho -- I don't know where to begin. WHY IS IT SO OILY? I don't understand. It's like a quarter inch thick layer of oil floating at the top, which would make sense why I need to run to the bathroom immediately. Your pho works more like a laxative than a refreshing and light meal. The soup is never hot enough, and the chicken/flank/balls are all pre-cooked. I hate that they don't even try to serve it in actual bowls, but instead for convenience provide them in Styrofoam ones, which actually taint the flavor of the soup. Yikes! Salads/Rolls -- Now, I should disclose that I am allergic to shellfish, so anything involving shrimp is unknown to me. These salads come with a watered down nuoc cham. The salads made with vermicelli noodles are prepared well ahead of time, and thus the noodles bunch together, and the only means to free them is to break it up by force. I want to continue to rant, believe me. Tapioca is gross. Cookies are gross. Milk tea is gross. I don't even know how this place is established here and remains a staple for college students. Absolutely awful. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a date with a toilet. Thanks, Bale!

Granted the food here isn't that bad, in exception to some things...*cough* the buffalo wings *cough*, it's quite obvious that most people just come here for Manoa Gardens, the campus bar. The service here can be bad at times, especially if they're busy. But, other than that, the prices are reasonable and MOST of the food is actually edible. The paninis are pretty good, the pho and egg rolls too. As I kinda already hinted above, I suggest not ordering the buffalo wings. I honestly don't know how someone could eat that, unless they were really drunk of course. My friend's BF ordered it for dinner one night & it was totally burnt & rather than being edible, it looked like something that came out of a buffalo...if you know what it mean. It even smelled like it too. I have yet to drink at Manoa Gardens, but it seems popular...especially now that midterms are over and it's so close to the end of the semester.

I love eating Ba-Le... I can't say that I love eating at this particular Ba-Le... It's not completely horrible, but there are other Ba-Le shops I've been to that I enjoy more. This Ba-Le shop doesn't offer half as much as other shops. There aren't any rice plates. The choice of phos is limited as well. The sandwiches are good though. They have several breads to choice from which is nice. I wouldn't recommend the vegetarian pho. It tasted very bland. Ba-Le also gets pretty packed during the school session. So grabbing a pho and a seat might be difficult. Definitely recommend a sandwich for a quick eat.

Decent banh mi (vietnamese sandwiches), with a lot of flexible options. Prices don't carry the mark up I was expecting for an on-campus eatery. Or maybe I'm too used to getting lunches in downtown.

Bale...Is by far the cheapest place to eat on campus but I think its horrible. As a UH student I spent most of my freshmen year eating at bale but after a year I said, "no more!" I would always get the chicken sandwich on French or ciabatta bread because It was the cheapest thing on campus. But after getting food poisoning twice...I refuse to eat a bale sandwich. Sure getting food poisoning was a quick way to get a temporary 6-pack but it was so NOT worth it. I then returned one day to try pho. I never tried pho before and after eating bale's pho I was like, "Eh? Why does everyone make such a big fuss about pho?" But I later tried "real" pho and it is amazing. Bale's is just fake pho, nothing great. The only upside is that Bale is the only place on campus where you can drink alcohol starting at lunch. Plus there's tv so you can catch any ongoing games.

I love BaLe on campus! I go to UH Manoa and this is a great place to eat. It's cheaper than eating in Campus Center and Paradise Palms for sure but it's not a cheap eats place (for students, at least). Sandiwches are all good. I really like the lemongrass chicken on the French Bread. The service people always listen to you regarding sandwich choices like the pickled vegetables, mayonnaise, and hot sauce even though I always get everything on it. The Pho is also pretty awesome, a huge bowl for like six or seven dollars and there is a small condiment bar where you can add spice or salty to it. I also like the asian drinks and snacks that they sell but I don't like the cookies (too dry and crumbly) or the chocolate covered croissant (plastic-y chocolate). They also have iced coffee and boba drinks which are nice and sweet. I'm not a huge fan of boba, but the drinks themselves are pretty alright. The salads are pretty salad-y. Nothing too special but I do like the springroll and noodle one pretty good. I didn't care too much for the Chef's salad (though I never do like anybody's recipe for this salad) and the papaya salad. I absolutely love the shrimp summer rolls and the tuna ones are alright too, but the texture can be weird for some people (mainly, my white boyfriend). I also had my first legal drink here on my 21st birthday. It was right after a killer physiology exam and my friend offered to buy me a drink. I told the bartender it was my birthday and got a free shot of Jaeger (don't know how to spell that, sorry). For my birthday drink I got a Starburst, just a bunch of different flavored vodkas topped with seven up or sprite. the vodka filled up pretty much half or two thirds of the 16 oz cup so I was pretty happy about that, Tasted pretty good as well. Very strong for the 7 dollars it cost. I don't think the bar runs too late into the evening, but it's a nice place on campus to drink. I think the Varsity down the road has better drink specials, though.

I do come here quite often since it's located on campus and I usually come here to grab lunch or a snack in between classes. What I do like is their beef pho but I don't like the price :( Unfortunately since it's located on campus, prices tend to be a little higher than if you were to have it in Chinatown, which is where I usually go to get pho. It's about $8 for a bowl of pho whereas in Chinatown, I can get a large bowl for a little under $7. However at least they give you a good amount of meats but not as much noodles as I would expect. Their thai iced tea is also a favorite of mine. I usually get it without the tapioca because I'm super picky when it comes to tapiocas. I like the texture to be soft with a hint of chewiness to it, unfortunately Bale's tapioca is ok, more chewy and not as soft as I would like it so I tend to order my drink without it. I've also had their green chicken curry and pad thai before. Green chicken curry is a little bit on the sweet side and they could use a little less oil on the pad thai and it would've been better. Service is inconsistent, sometimes it's quick but it could also drag cause of the flow of students going in and out. Overall not a bad experience so far which is good!

Why Bale, why? Jacking up prices for poor college students. Spring rolls are now 1.20 instead of the 1.00 it used to be. Bubble coffee drinks are 3.00 instead of 2.86. Might not seem like a lot but hey, it adds up. Got the almond tofu once and found mold growing on top by the cherry. They wouldnt give me a refund but told me to grab a new one from the fridge. Possibly from the same batch? Ew, I think not. Must say though that the fruit smoothie is delicious and a good alternative for when Jamba closes at 4.

Bale is okay as far as campus eateries go, but i feel like it's gotten worse in the last year. The beef in the pho is starting to scare me, the sandwiches (which I used to LOVE) are in the $5 range now, the soup makes me uncommonly thirsty... meh. they are saved by the furikake puffs and those butter cookies that are rolled up and looked like a butterfly. those are awesome. I recommend going off-campus and finding a truck, or going to Da Spot at Hamilton Library - better and cheaper.

Banh-mi?Banh-YOU! If you like a good Vietnamese sandwich, Bale is certainly a place to get it. This particular location on the UH-Manoa campus is centrally located on campus and dishes up their sandwiches, warm food items, and pho in a quick orchestration that is down right quick! The sandwiches are made on warmed bread and pick the meat you desire along with your typical toppings such as pickled vegetables, cilantro, and such! The pho is piping hot and not that bad. It isn't the greatest, but at the same time not too shabby. Prices are reasonable and the service quick. When you only have a few minutes to spare, it certainly is a good choice!

The place is pretty busy during the lunch hour at UH Manoa. The food isn't that good but there isn't much of a choice when you take classes in the Shidler building unless you wanna walk a bit to get something else. Ordered beef pho which can sorta feed two people, nothing special about it. Had a lemongrass chicken on french which can definitely feed one person. The meat isn't fresh but subway's isn't either. I eat it with the sriracha sauce and it is good enough for me. The pad thai is ok but you can get somewhat full off of a mini order that costs less than $4.00. Since I hang out at UH often, I may try their curry or some other plate next time.
