Chinese food is not my favorite. But Asia Manoa is a crowd pleaser and the perfect place to eat with a group. We're here with family from the mainland who cannot get Crispy Gau Gee. Yum! I was trying to think of how to explain it, it's like a won ton chip with the won ton meat filling that's fried to a crisp. Super crunchy and served hot! I love how attentive the staff is. The decor is clean and modern. Parking perfect. Menu is extensive. We sit down and order, literally one minute later our food is out. What more can you ask for? The cold ginger chicken is amazing. Get it! Especially with how hot the weather has been. This place was packed by 5:30, so come before or after the initial dinner rush. Last but not least, BYOB and they will even give you the wine glasses. The best part? Eating leftovers tomorrow!!

I haven't been here in a while, so I'm going to update my review. My uncle and his family were visiting from Seattle so we had a party of eleven. He ordered a portion and a half of every dish because we had so many people. Even with a portion and a half, the dish was small. The servings are not very generous. I'm glad that my uncle had made reservations because it was full house. They had a few different parties going on. They even turned away a few customers. The servings might have been small but the food was delicious. The food is always on point here. My uncle had ordered the fish maw soup, snow peas with scallops, minute chicken, fried canton shrimp, seafood and chicken tofu, steamed fish fillet, salt and pepper pork chops and beef choy sum cake noodle. Usually, I'd go with a seafood dish as my favorite. Tonight, I'd have to go with the salt and pepper pork chop. It was just tender goodness with the right amount of seasoning. The stuffed fried eggplant in black bean sauce is still my favorite. It's one of their specialties and can't be found at too many restaurants. We didn't get this dish tonight because my uncle was hosting. If I was hosting, this dish would most definitely have been in the line up. This restaurant is extremely clean for a mid range, Chinese restaurant. They don't serve dim sum here, just entree dishes. Jeana P., if you're reading this, this restaurant is owned by a second generation Pang.

Chinese food in Hawaii is way different than what it is in San Francisco. Asia Manoa is my favorite place on Oahu. I recently had a family lunch there. My menu was filled with my favorites. Unfortunately, the taro duck was not available because the chef who makes it was on vacation. Auwe! Here's what we had to everyone's delight. So ono! - Chinese chicken salad - barley stuffed duck - pepper beef - minute chicken, ong choy over cake noodles - Island pork chop with Peking sauce - choy sum with garlic - steamed sea bass fillets with seasoned soy sauce - mango pudding *note: one order kau yook with taro to go Service was efficient and very friendly.

Decent Chinese food, if you are in the Manoa area. The restaurant is actually one of the cleaner ones I've been too. Service is nothing to write home about, but our waters were filled and we were able to ask a few questions about the menu with no language barrier. This is not a dim sum place though, just regular dishes. We got some wontons, mapo tofu, and a shrimp fried rice. The fried rice was extremely bland, but then again I'd rather have dry and bland rice than oily, over-saturated rice. I should have tried the garlic chicken one. The tea they serve is good though, it helps wash everything down after the meal. I'd go back and try more menu items when I'm in the mood for Chinese. Reasonable prices and convenient location.

So if you got a fixin for Chinese Food then this will do the trick. There are better places for Chinese food, but Asia Manoa is ok. The Honey Walnut Shrimp is pretty good. The pieces of shrimp are plump and have a good flavor. They are very generous with the amount of walnut pieces they give. The cake noodle had good flavor and a lot of pieces of minute chicken. However, I thought the noodles were too hard, even after I put on the gravy. the black pepper beef was not to my liking. It wasn't cooked bad, but the pepper was a little overpowering for me. Overall this place has nice service and friendly waiters. I would give it a 3.5 actually. If you want Chinese food and want to stay in Manoa, definitely go here.

Why can we not find a good Chinese restaurant in this town? We have ordered out from them a few times to give them a good chance to win us over, but the food is just barely passable. I can only speak about the vegetarian dishes - lame. And it is expensive.

Food is decent but priced a little high. Service is rude. Dining area is run down and dirty.

Let me educate you... 1. "ASIA" is the Earth's largest and most populous continent! Didn't know that one, huh? 2. "MANOA" is rich in history and (Mānoa) means thick, solid, vast, depth or thickness in the Hawaiian language! Probably why it's where the very first plantations in Hawaii were located! Pretty cool, huh? 3. "CHINESE" are wise people of Asia. Or, should I say 90% of Asia since the population of China alone is 1 billion and change! Not counting all the Chinese in Vietnam, Laos, Southeast Asia, Vancouver, San Francisco, etc.! Oh, and here in Hawaii too! Like wise rabbits, huh? 4. "RESTAURANT" is a place where you eat. I mean I hope you know that one! Preferably decent grub! I mean I can't educate you on everything, right?! Geez, Louisa! Okay, I live in Manoa. I have lineage here that stretches over a century, but you know what's odd? I never stepped in here once (unless I was a baby and didn't know)! TBH I feel after everything I said above (1., 2., 3., and 4.)... The name of this place simply sucks! Sounds cheesy and I figured the food must suck too, right? I mean it's a pretty dumb name... C'mon now... ASIA MANOA CHINESE RESTAURANT! Confucius say: "Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance." See "stupid" written on my forehead? You better not! Umm, but you know what? Never, never, ever judge a book by it's cover or a restaurant by it's ugly lame name! I learned this because of my experiences in my colorful life and the Chinese grub here simply ROCKS! Confucius say: "Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated." So, maybe I do think too much. I mean I'm analytical by nature, but why didn't I just keep it simple and don't judge by only the ugly name. So, I finally find the courage to try this place and we walk in to a well-lit restaurant with faux Asian decor! Hey, it worked! Yup, it is a "typical" neighborhood Chinese restaurant, but more organized and seemed cleaner than the norm, too! Visually at least. After perusing the pretty extensive menu we settle on the: SPECIAL DINNER PLATE ($10.50): Roasted Chicken, Beef Vegetable Noodle(s), Sweet Sour Spare Ribs, Crispy Won Ton, Char Sui Fried Rice. Everything was delicious on this plate! A better "special" Chinese local plate that I've had, but it's about $1-2 more than the typical places. Definitely worth it! SPECIAL "D" COMBO ($11.00): Won Ton Soup, Shrimp Broccoli, Roasted Chicken, Crispy Won Ton, Steamed Rice. A winning combo plate. Everything fresh and tasty. Again, a tad more than places like "Golden Duck" or Chop Suey Houses, but IMHO definitely worth it! Confucius say: "I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." So yes, I definitely recommend... ASIA MANOA CHINESE RESTAURANT! Confucius say: "Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it." It was clean and inviting, the servers were a tad gruff at first, but seemed efficient and actually warmed up during the meal! Patience is really a virtue in life. The house tea was smooth and didn't taste "recycled" like some places. It's a good Chinese neighborhood restaurant with very, very good grub! Not high-end, but casual with delicious foods and quite generous, too! That's the lecture for today. 'Til next time, be good, keep an open mind, hug a Chinese Shar Pei, and remember... Confucius say: "Wherever you go, go with all your heart..." OVERALL GRADE: 4.0-STARS! (Solid!) LIVE ALOHA... YELP REVIEW #403

The food is ohhhhh sooolomiyo delicious ! Whenever I am looking for good Chinese food I know this place doesn't disappoint. The vegetables are always fresh and with good selection. Enjoy the large selection of dishes including a few I have only seen here at Asia Manoa. For example... Whenever my mom wants her boneless chicken fried rice with salted fish I know she means she wants me to take out food for her here. And when she wants to dine in...we all love the white fungus soup. Yes, I know, doesn't sound too appetizing. Believe me when I say...names can be deceiving. It is delicious! The only reason I give it one less star from perfection is that there never seems to be enough parking in the lot...nor tables at peak dinner time. The restaurant is not very big. Perhaps only seating 40 persons. So how to they sustain the higher prices that they do? ...By offering some outstanding tasty dishes! K, gotta go...its time for some Chinese yummieness !

Delicious food, my daughter enjoys the black been chow fun. Green beans are the best along with the seafood fried rice. Portions a bit small for the price, but food is tasty. The sin choy is ono too. Gets very busy during dinner hours. Would go back again.

Just a quick update: tonight my Dad's comment was chuckle & yelp worthy: "For a Chinese restaurant, the bathroom is REALLY clean--for ANY restaurant, it's really clean!" And the expert on restaurant restrooms has spoken :-)

Wintertime in Hawaii should not weaken the breath of the dragon! Manoa isn't exactly an along-the-way area, so I've only been here a few times. The place is small with two or three big round tables, so if you have a party of 5 or 6 and those round tables are reserved, you're forced to sit on several small, square, uneven tables, which doesn't offer much room for food. Each time I've come here, I'm always seated at the corner near the front door, and every time some one comes in, you will feel a current of air blow in. The service is run by two women who do every single front of the house operation from serving, taking orders, answering phone calls, seating customers, cashiering, bussing, etc. etc. It's ridiculous the amount of work they do. The problem with this, as a customer, is that after taking your order, they won't check on you ever again. You must wait for the opportune time to get their attention to get whatever you need. Also, if the place is busy, the service will be even more slow, and your food can be left in the window for a while because they do so many things. They definitely need a third person working the front. The food here is hit or miss. At the most recent visit, we had: -Cold Ginger Chicken: The chicken was cooked well and not overcooked, and the ginger and green onion sauce was good. The problem here was the chicken pieces were chopped inconsistently, so you had really big pieces and small pieces. -Long Green Bean with Minced Pork: Asia Manoa prepares this dish differently than other Chinese restaurants on Oahu. It uses a sauce similar to sweet chili sauce, and a lot of garlic. It was a tasty dish and the green beans were tender, but the dish lacked the wok-heat char that is usually very prominent at other restaurants. -Island Pork Chop, Capital Style: This is a staple dish I always order at every Chinese restaurants, and the one at Asia Manoa ranks in the top tier. The pork is very good quality here, and the slices are the perfect size. Most of the time at other places, the pork are sliced too thick or too thin, and the pork is mostly fat, but here doesn't have that. . The pork was fried nicely, and the sauce was tasty and had a nice consistency that kept the pork moist. However, this dish needed a little bit more time in the wok, or a higher heat because onions were more on the raw side and lacked the wok-heat char. Still a decent dish. -Deep Fried Sea Bass in Sweet and Sour Sauce: When this dish arrived, I could smell the vinegar right away. At first glance (and smell), I thought this dish would be overly sour, but I was wrong. It was the best dish of the day. The sauce was tasty and had a good consistency. The batter they used on the (basa) fish was excellent, and the fish was fried very well. The meat was soft on the inside, and very crispy on the outside even with the sauce dredged over it. A very well made dish. -Beef Stew with Lettuce (not in the casserole): This was a nice dish. The beef brisket and tendons were tender and not chewy at all. The sauce was not rich or overpowering. -Satay Beef Chow Funn: I've mentioned a couple of times already of dishes not staying in the wok long enough, and this was the worst of them all. The chow funn were still in clumps in the middle of the dish, the thicker beef slices were still raw, chewy, and basically inedible, and the onions and green bell peppers weren't even cooked through. The taste of this dish was strange and bland, and the ratio of chow funn was way too little compared to the amount of meat. When you call this "satay beef," I am expecting that char flavor that you get with satay. This completely missed the mark. -House Special Fried Noodles: This was the second most disappointing dish. Typically, the House Special Fried Noodles have a generally even mixture of meat, seafood, and vegetables. Here, there were two of every thing, and the rest was slices of pork with bad choy sum. The way this dish was prepared seemed like the noodles were boiled with the sauce poured on top without ever being in a wok. Similar to the chow funn, this dish was also strange and bland, and had way too much meat on top compared to the amount of noodles. Overall, the food wasn't so spectacular that I will drive into Manoa for. It sorely lacked the breath of the dragon from their woks. This restaurant leans more to the local, Amercanized-style of Chinese food. The service wasn't great. On this trip, after taking our order, one of the women plopped down a big bowl of rice. We did not ask for rice or asked if we wanted rice, but we received a big bowl, which we thought was free since typically you order individual bowls. Later on, when we received the check, the total amount was more than what we calculated, and the check didn't list the price for what we ordered. We figured out that we were all charged 1 rice per person.....when we never asked for it or even asked if anyone wanted rice... -_- Awful!

This place is clean, cool and has a surprisingly big, comfortable dining room. It's across the street from Serge's, and we thought about going, but since it was a hot day, we didn't want to sweat it out in outdoor seating. The food is very good; nothing over the top good, just solid. We had honey walnut shrimp, crispy tofu, hong kong crispy noodles with chicken, string beans with minced pork. It was plentiful for a party of 5. Parking is pretty decent (if you get there early like 11:30am), and it's convenient for Manoa. Since there are not a lot of great choices for dining in Manoa, this place is worth keeping in mind when you are around the area.

Yummy. Walnut shrimp is amazing (but sweet). Fish was well prepared. Nice place. Good parking. And they didn't mind that we sat and talked for hours. Will definitely be back.

Food was good. But we picked a bad night to come. 4 to 5 large parties, so the service suffered. The lobster with black bean was very outstanding.

LOVE the honey walnut shrimp and beef&broccoli cake noodle from here. We had a few other items and shared family style but those two were my favorite. Service is okay. Our water never got refilled (mine was completely empty half way through dinner) and the restaurant wasn't full but the staff did seem to be pretty busy. Would recommend if you're craving Chinese food and you're in the Manoa area!

This is my grandma's favorite restaurant. My brother introduced this place to the rest of the family about 5 years ago and we've been going ever since! I've eaten in the restaurant and done take out. We always seem to order the same thing which is: Garlic fried rice with chicken String beans with minced pork Beef tenderloin with mushrooms Honey walnut shrimp Crispy Gau Gee Sometimes we'll spice it up and order: Peking Duck Orange Chicken Steamed white fish Chow Mein The food tastes great! The restaurant is clean. The service is.... okay but that's the reason why it's four stars, not five. If the restaurant isn't filled, the service is decent. But if it is, then you will get mediocre service.

Very good Chinese food, great lunch plates, nice to have tea served with the meal like at the Golden Duck. It's newer so it looks more clean. However, the waitress could work on cleaning the tables better and not dumping the forks on the table after barely cleaning it with a wet rag. I choose a restaurant for its cleanliness and hope they will keep this fine establishment clean and in top condition. Being new is one of the main reasons why they are always crowded. But the 'newness' doesn't last, so they best take heed now. Other than that, the food is great for the price and they give amiable customer attention.

Today, Xmas eve took my 93 old grand ma out to dinner. Understandably the restaurant is busy.. People are in a rush. But there is no excuse for pulling dishes from under your face while eating. Twice. Food on plates, chop sticks feeding face. Dishes pulled. Then begin to attempt to box up food while eating. Then. Pick up our table and pushing over while eating to make room. Worst dining experience ever. Good food, but no food is worth being treated like that.

This place rocks! Amid the take-out and fast food places in Manoa, it's a nice change of pace. I'd say it's a nicer Chinese restaurant-it's clean, the decor is adorable and the wait staff is attentive. We come here for dinner on a regular basis. I've enjoyed everything I've ever had here. EVERYTHING. You can't go wrong. Seriously.

I have eaten at Asia Manoa twice this month. We liked the food so much the first time we came back a few weeks later. We ordered the minced beef soup, honey walnut shrimp, salt-and-pepper pork chop, fried won tons, minute chicken cake noodle, green beans and Kau yuk. I did not enjoy the honey walnut shrimp as much the second time around I thought it was a little too mushy and it didn't have very much shrimp flavor. I really enjoyed the pork chop the only thing is there are small little bits of bone through out the pork chops so be careful when you eat it. We don't normally get won tons but my nephew wanted it and I really enjoyed them they were crispy and not greasy. Everything else was very good some of the portions are a little small but we will surely be back

I have been here twice before, and didn't care to come back. But my friend really likes it and it's been awhile, so I decided to give it another try. Three of us had: abalone soup, Chinese chicken salad, Peking duck, crispy gau gee, string beans with pork, chicken and broccoli over cake noodles (my friend believes in leftovers). I can't eat shrimp, but my friends enjoyed the honey walnut shrimp. As noted by others, there is only one waitress, but we were there early, so we did not have to wait. The food was so-so, as I remembered. The soup was tasty, but I didn't care for the salad. The duck was about the best of the bunch. The gau gee was crisp and not oily, but lacked flavor. The chicken and broccoli and string beans were okay but you can get better elsewhere. I would have given 3 stars but what happened next made me lower the rating. I had scarcely finished eating (I had not overeaten), when I had to run to the restroom. That has not happened a long time, and I regularly have Chinese food. As I returned to the table, I saw about 3 pounds of raw ground pork - sitting on a plate on a back table, uncovered, unrefrigerated. Why was it there (maybe someone was going to come out and make gau gee), but, more importantly, how long had it been there? The 6 bus (Woodlawn/University) stops right in front.

Great flavor, very authentic style including comfort food like beef noodle soup. Shanghai noodle also very flavorful and reasonable price. Menu selection is fairly extensive, and the entree portions are above average. One word of caution: if you have a healthy appetite, do NOT get any of the combo dinners. I recently ordered a combo dinner for the 1st time (Combo C). The wonton soup is simple (in a good way) with terrific broth. Then came the rest of the order: beef & broccoli, sweet & sour pork, rice & 2 crispy gau gee. Each portion of the meats were smaller portions than the wonton soup. Together they may have been the same amount as one part of a combo at Nice Day or a fraction of a combo at Chun Wah Kam. The rice was also the same size as the 2 meats put together. As it turned out, my mother-in-law got filled up with her wonton soup & rice (her usual preference to having soup) and insisted I take her beef & broccoli + sweet & sour pork (she also ordered Combo C), and with that I was satisfied. except I essentially paid for 2 Combo Cs for myself at $10.50 each. Pretty shocking considering the beef noodle soup portions are very generous and 2/3 the price. so, I won't be ordering any combo dinners anymore. Parking is relatively limited, but they have their own lot and share it with Waipuna Sushi.

Tonight we ordered and picked up food from Asia Manoa to eat at my cousin's house. Overall, the experience was pretty disappointing! Negatives: - they don't have brown rice - the don't have fortune cookies! - they forgot the kung pao chicken that we ordered - the fried rice seemed like just regular white rice with peas and tiny pieces of shrimp in it - the food was a bit bland and greasy Positives: - the hot and sour soup was pretty good Yes, my two stars are generous...!

My family and I are regulars here! The honey walnut shrimp, salt and pepper pork and taro duck are among our favorites. Typically we are met with good service, but I try not to be too hard on servers... I know that there are customers who can be difficult, but as long as you're nice to them, they're nice to you. I like the ambiance of the place. It's cozy, to me, and a good place for family meals!

Always wanted to try this place... It's located in a small stand alone mall on E.Manoa Road. The evening that my dining companion and I went there, unbeknownst to us, there was a baby party going on, the traditional Chinese kind... Needless to say, it was crowded!!! Just about everyone was speaking Chinese, which was a good sign since I was thinking to myself was because they liked the food there. I really wanted to have some crispy gau gee, but I couldn't believe they had sold out!! That's just like a Japanese restaurant running out of rice!! Anyway, after the nice lady twisted my arm, I settled for some crispy won tun. It was actually quite good! Next, we ordered the house special noodles, cake noodle style, honey walnut shrimp and spicy eggplant. The house noodles were good, the sauce was tasty and the vegetables were plentiful. The honey walnut shrimp was delicious! You know how when you bite into one, it has that subtle crispness and you can taste the flavors of the sauce? That's how it was. It also wasn't overly smothered in that creamy sauce like some places serve it. The eggplant, well, I wasn't too thrilled with it. It wasn't spicy at all and it didn't have enough sauce. It was meh, kinda boring. There were some other offerings that I wanted to try, but I'll save that for another trip there. You can get carried away really easy when ordering Chinese food and before you know it, you'll have your own little nine course dinner! I know they were busy, so I expected to be ignored when it got hectic for them and I wasn't wrong. Our water was low for a while before being refilled, possibly because we were buried way in the back on the other side of the party group. I did have a question I wanted to ask the waitress lady about the food, but she just shrugged me off and said "I cannot talk, too busy"... True story. I forgive her, there were a lot of hungry partygoers waiting for their food. All in all, it was a pretty good meal, solid three stars! "Yelp's 31's" - #26/31

We got takeout from this small restaurant, but there was a mix-up in our order and we went home with several dishes we hadn't ordered. Apparently my husband started ordering with both menu item name and number from the online menu, but finished just giving the menu numbers, which weren't consistent across the in-house and online menus. As a result, we got some things that we ordered and some things that we had not, and paid a price we had not estimated. (No discount or freebie was offered.). The food was definitely edible, and some of it was quite tasty, but I didn't know what many of the dishes were called, and the only dish I clearly remember had saimin noodles fried into cakes. They were tasty, super crunchy and a bit egg-y. I liked them despite myself. The bottom line for me was that the food was on the greasy side and unmemorable, but I will probably give the place one more shot in the future.

Don't understand anything negative said about this place. It's clean, lively, the food is fresh and delicious. At least the dishes I had last night. A good friend took 3 of us to dinner last night and being a Asia Manoa regular, we let her order. She ordered enough to feed an army and we took home more than we ate. I'm not kidding. The potstickers were juicy and delicious. We had it with crunchy but not watery, mushu pork and decadent slurpy clams in black beans, for starters. The portions, HUGANGOUS. Worth every cent. We did not order rice as the hostess ordered a noodle dish which is pretty much how we like our Chinese food. You're not going to believe the amount of food this woman ordered because she says that she likes to snack at midnight but remarkably, she is rail thin. She also wanted us to take home some because she thought our fatso bodies would go hungry in the night too. I don't snack at night, I hibernate. The salt pepper shrimp in shell was crunchy good. The shells were thin, delicate and lightly dusted. I think with cornstarch, not flour. Seasoned well but not heavy with greasy batter. Sprinkled with red and green slices of pepper and fried garlic, this is the best I've ever tasted. They cut off the sharp mouth and shell parts that are pointy for those of us barbarians that eat the head. Mmmm. Our hostess did sort of a redundant thing by ordering the salt pepper pork chop which, while great, paled in comparison to the shrimp. Then came a plate of large breasted, meaty roast chicken. Wow, delicious. Moist and huge pieces of white meat eaten I began to hit my wall. 6 dishes in, the jai arrived. It was delicious and I was now officially stuffed. Oh no, steamed bass in peanut oil and shoyu with Chinese parsley. I had to try it. Again, and again.........and again. God. Minute chicken and cake noodles....I have no taste buds left but I had to eat one cake noodle..... for long life......whew! Questionable at this rate.

Can someone enlighten me about Asia Manoa? This has been a favorite neighborhood restaurant for us since it opened. We eat here several times a year and it has always been consistently good, a go to kind of place you could always count on to deliver. We went a few nights ago, our first time back in a while and were dismayed at what took place. We ordered our favorite dishes that we've eaten numerous times. All the food came out of the kitchen lukewarm. The plates looked like they were hastily prepared and sloppy, nothing glistened, the food looked flat. Every dish was flavorless and under seasoned. I can understand maybe one dish out of several not being up to par, but not every plate of the meal. Has there been a change of ownership? Did the main cook leave? Something was off. I'm hoping it was a one time glitch, but this was pretty bad and certainly gives me pause about returning.

We have never been disappointed by the service, food and generosity of the owner and staff of Asia Manoa. Their vegetarian menu is extensive, their ginger/onion sea bass is NOT to be missed.....it's AMAZING!! We LOVE bringing our friends and out of town guests to Asia Manoa as we know they will be equally impressed. Couple good food with Kellly Sueyda's art work and you have a winning combination for an informal neighborhood restaurant!!

This place is absolutely terrible! Please avoid it. I ate here with my family and we all got sick with food poisoning. The food tasted like it had been sitting out for days and the servers were unpleasant and indifferent to our needs. "Excuse me, could I get more water?" - The waitress then says something in Chinese and never comes back with more water. Attitude I tell you. Avoid.

BY FAR MY FAVORITE CHINESE RESTAURANT Service is excellent and friendly. We usually go there with anywhere from 6 to 20 people. The great thing is that the food is consistantly good. recommendations: SALT&PEPPER PORK CHOPS, MINUTE CHICKED FRIED NOODLES, EGG FU YOUNG, BOILED LETTUCE, PEKING DUCK W/BUN, HONEY WALNUT SHRIMP, SHRIMP CANTON, LETTUCE WRAPS (done for you by the waitress @ the table) the food is very tasty. a must try for everyone.

This place gives Little Village a run for it's money. They do somethings better then Little Village, like the Mongolian beef and won ton, but over all I'd probably say I prefer Little Village. But that's like me saying I'd prefer to have a $100 bill instead of $100 worth of quarters. What I really like about this place is that you can usually get seated immediately if you have a reservation and even when I haven't I don't think I've ever waited for more than 10 mins. My go to items are: Honey Walnut Shrimp Lemon Chicken Mongolian Beef Won Ton House Cake Noodle

I can't count how many times I've eaten here over the past ten years. I always come out satisfied. Everything I've had has been fairly good to really good. Asia Manoa is totally reliable! The menu is extensive, and they'll bring you a vegetarian menu on request. The chicken dishes seem to be the best ones overall. Try the Kung Pao or Chicken with Cashews. Their black bean sauce is great, whatever you get it with. The noodles are reliable, too, particularly the look fun. I haven't been so dazzled by the soups. The food comes out quickly, and it's very reasonably priced. Aisa Manoa isn't aiming to be the best, but what they do, they do well: good, uncomplicated Chinese food. Happy sustainability note -- they use plastic chopsticks, not the disposable wooden ones. :-) Parking is in a small lot next to the restaurant. Even though it's shared with a couple of other places, I've never had trouble finding a spot.

The food here is good. Did the sit down lunch a couple times, service pretty much is lacking. We started only ordering take out. However, you cannot walk in at night for dinner, too busy or the lady says, "no, all reserved'. We stopped going there altogether.

This place is a regular for my family when it comes to going out for Chinese food. So, this past Wednesday, when my cousins mentioned we were meeting for dinner, I had a feeling it would be here. And, for sure...I was right. We usually order family style. That's always the best option, especially here. The food is good. Probably some of the best Chinese food around. My family seems to order the same thing every time...honey walnut shrimp, house special cake noodles, sweet sour pork, ginger chicken, beef broccoli, and duck. Prices are reasonable, and the workers are really nice too. Then again, my family's been coming to this place for years...since I was a child! So, they are probably pretty accustomed to us already.

Close to 3 stars but just not there. Service below par (more water, please!), food completely average. Party of 4 had pot stickers, goa lo mien, crispy chicken (one person really liked this), shrimp chow mien (nah!), cashew and vegetable chicken. Scolded for ordering Peking duck at 6 p.m. (all gone, must come earlier!). Crowded, noisy worth it with better food maybe. BYOB is plus, prices are okay, but this is still only worth 2 stars and no more visits. (Eaten here twice).

My favorite Chinese restaurant. The restaurant is clean and the food is always tasty. The employees always remember you and are very friendly. The food is a slightly pricey but definitely worth it. Parking is very limited because it shares a very small parking lot, which fronts the restaurant, with 3 other businesses.

We came here when it opened... there aren't many places to eat out in Manoa and this being one of them, we decided to try it. I don't remember much of it then... just that it was really pricey for hot and sour soup for takeout! But then, my parents took my husband and I out to dinner because none of us felt like cooking. My mom and dad ordered for us since my dad knew what he wanted to eat and my husband and I didn't really care. Our menu consisted of kau yuk (spelling?), chow fun, plain pork hash, walnut shrimp (yeah my husband wanted that one...), deep fried oysters, and pork eggplant. The deep fried oysters were actually good until I saw the inards and that made me want to hurl. The next best was the pork hash... then after that, nothing was really all that great. The honey walnut shrimp tasted like mayo since they weren't cooked long enough so it was gross. We tried to explain that to the waitress and she cut the shrimp in half... like wth? She didn't understand. It was impossible to flag her down the whole night. It was sort of pricey for what we got and honestly, it wasn't good food. My parents liked the kau yuk but I think it smelled like stinky feet. I would have been happier eating saimin at home because then we know what we're getting into and it would have been the same amount of sodium intake. I have no idea how some of these people gave this place such good food reviews... to each his/her own I guess. There's better places for Chinese that have more taste, less sodium, and a heck of a lot cheaper.

We go to Asia Manoa on a semi-regular basis, since it's the only Chinese restaurant in Manoa valley. The restaurant itself is kind of small, so it's nice and "cozy" like most Chinese restaurants, but it's pretty clean, which is not like most Chinese restaurants. My absolute favorite is the stuffed duck! Imagine, if you will, a layer of awesome barley, mushrooms, lotus seeds, etc. swimming in gravy, which is then covered with the delicious duck and soft fatty skin, which is then topped with chinese parsley and smothered with the same really really yummy gravy. I want....now! We have also tried the green beans with ground pork (green beans are nice and crunchy), lettuce cups, emien, shrimp with honey walnuts, chow mien, and steamed fish, and all have been consistently delicious!

Waited 20 mins - AT the table. No menu, no water, no utensils of any kind. Perhaps I forgot to turn off my invisibility shield, but I do not believe I have ever been so completely ignored in all my long life. They were busy, but two gentlemen (loosely interpreted) stood around doing cash register and handing out take-out while this one woman ran around like crazy. I felt really bad for her, until I realized my shield was indeed "off" and she was just unable to look directly at my ravishing beauty even enough to provide me with a menu or glass of water. So, I did the only thing I could ... I uneventfully walked out ... No one noticed ... I even looked back. So, there's two ways to look at it: the food is incredibly good, therefore they can't keep up production to the multitudes of customers and therefor e it is a long wait OR. There is another dimension in the place that prevents the staff from seeing or recognizing or acknowledging certain people. Just some possibilities.... It looked good, it was clean.

I wrote my last review based on a couple visits, but since then I've had visit after visit that just turned into disappointments. Most dishes I've ordered have been ridiculously greasy. We're talking sauce that starts to coagulate when just barely cooling. Really, really salty and heavy. I'm referring to the mongolian beef and fried eggplant at this point, but there have been others. Like the chicken cake noodle (?) dish and other beef dishes I've ordered. Also tried salt and pepper pork chops and they were so tough and overly salted... I just couldn't do it. I will order their fried rice any day of the week, but I'm done getting take out from this place. Especially for the price. Yikes!

honey. walnut. shrimp. i actually contemplated just ending my review there cuz that is all you need to know! they make the Best honey walnut shrimp - fat prawns, perfect texture of somehow crispy outside with luscious inside, and to-die-for flavor! mmmmm! but pretty much everything i've tried here is awesomely addicting: salt & pepper pork chops (a close second), egg scallop soup, garlic seafood fried rice... i wanna try new dishes but how can i when i Must eat my usual favorites?! i highly suggest going with a large group so you can order more and do it family-style! oh, and can you invite me too? ;)

This is one of my favorite small neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Service is typical of any Chinese restaurant...but I love the steamed sea bass, salt and pepper pork chops, and honey walnut shrimp. Recently had the eggplant with pork and that was delicious.

This is my family's go to place to eat Chinese food. I get intense migraines from MSG, and this place will make your order without MSG if you ask. Their food never disappoints. We've been going to Asia Manoa since they first opened, and the food is wonderful. We always get the same order: Honey Walnut Shrimp (or Pepper and salt shrimp) Stuffed Eggplant House Special with Cake Noodles Beef and Broccoli Choy Sum with Mushrooms Ginger Chicken Lemon Chicken Salt and Pepper Pork Chops. and this odd green bean salad with beef For a party of three women, we always have tons of leftovers. and usually spent the car ride home staking claim to who will get which leftovers. I consider Asia Manoa a set up from Zippy's, but a step down from a steakhouse. The prices are reasonable, we pay about $50 for three people (and 5-7 dishes) and we have dinner for a second night and lunch the next day. 8 servings for $50? Yes please!

YUMMY! my favorite place! the food is NOT greasy and i really liked their wonton soup. it was not salty and the veggies in it were fresh. prices for the combo i ordered was like $10 and it came with wonton soup, sweet and sour pork, beef and broccoli, deep fried stuffed wontons and steamed rice. the restaurant was clean and service wasn't bad. maybe it's because i've gone when it's not super busy so our server was attentive. the tea was really good too! give this lil place a try if you're in the area and craving some chinese food.

Been here twice in the past year. Got take-out from them once a while ago and the food was OK. The Walnut Shrimp we ordered based on the comments on here was really good but everything else was just OK. Last night, we decided to try them again. Usually we go to the Peppa's in Manoa Marketplace or pick up sushi if we don't feel like eating out, but I felt like Chinese food so we ordered some dishes we didn't order last time. The Sweet & Sour Shrimp was good. The Beef Chow Fun was bland. This may just be me and some people may like that it tastes less salty I'd give them 3 stars, but the 1 less star is for the service. 2 times out of the last 2 times we have gone there, we stood by the counter waiting for our food although we gave them 10-15 minutes extra on top of what time they give us. Then, the total bill always seems higher than what it should be. Because of this, I asked the older woman at the counter if she had any updated take-out menus to see if the prices had gone up and after a moment of hesitation, she told us they were out...hmmm....

I dont really like this restaraunt. I mean, the food is good, I didnt say its amazing, I said its good. BUT, My main problemo is that I went here with my parents, grandparents and friends on occassion and we got to know the watresses, but the owner never seemed to notice. I'm not asking for special service, I'm just saying it would be nice to recognized with even a 'hi.' He seems like a pretty nice guy, but perhaps he should focus more on his clientele, because I doubt he noticed we stopped coming here. Pretty shitty parking situation. Resto is on the smaller side, feels rather generic, and the setup of the place is akin to a nail salon, i.e. open floor space in the immediate entrance followed by a long narrow space down the rest. If I have a choice, I'd choose elsewhere. Also a bit on the expensive side, pretty sure prices went up during their first 2 years of business.

I was introduced to this place the other day by my friends. Looked online for the menu and took down what I wanted with prices and sales tax. I ordered four items: salted fish with chicken rice, chicken with black bean sauce, salt and pepper pork chops and string beans with mince pork. Out of the four I would not order the chicken with black bean. There were more onions and green bell peppers than chicken. When I went to the counter I had in mind $30 but when she told me $40,05 I was shocked, pretty pricy for lunch.

Parking...no problem. Went on a Tuesday night around 7p.m. This casual styled restaurant had 3 tables of families. My friend and I were seated, we came here because a friend from the mainland said "It is delicious! You'll have to go there when you're on vaca It is ono!" So, we went after hearing such rave reviews. We ordered choy sum with black mushrooms, Mongolian beef, and shrimp with black bean sauce. Total bill was decent....$35 (not including tip). Service wasn't anything spectacular..but then again, you come to a place like this not for great service or the atmosphere but because of the food. Mongolian beef was excellent...just the right amount of sauce and cooked to perfection..not too overcooked or undercooked. Choy sum with black mushrooms..ono! The shrimp with black bean sauce didn't fare as well. There were barely any shrimps in the dish and the size of the shrimps themselves were rather small. The dish consisted mainly of green peppers and onions and barely any black beans. I would describe the dish as "Chunks of green peppers and onions sauteed in tons of oil sprinkled with a few pieces of shrimp and 3 black beans on the side" This dish is something you'd expect from Panda Express or the like. By the time we finished, it was about 8:40pm Our leftovers were boxed and my friend and I were conversing. We were the only customers left in the restaurant besides a table of 12 who were right behind us. Sound travels well in this restaurant as there is nothing to dampen peoples' voices. As a result, we could unintentionally hear a lot of their conversation. (They weren't locals...I think they're all somehow related with UH - Manoa). Our waitress came to our table a few times giving us subtle hints that she wanted us to leave "Do you want anything else?" "Oh, you paid your bill already - yeah?" etc.... What I didn't realize was that she seemed in a hurry to kick my friend and I (an Asian and hapa) out but didn't bother to ask the table of 12 behind us to leave. (The table of 12 weren't Asian or hapa...can you figure out what they are?) Interesting. Getting back to the food, I shall return the next time I'm on the island. I just won't order the "shrimp with black bean sauce" and will come in the company of haoles so I will get treated right. haha

Wow had such an awesome dinner here last night!! The food was served family style, so we all shared dishes. Some of these dishes were the house chop suey, peking duck, boneless minute chicken, and spicy eggplant. There wasn't a single thing which any member of the dining party didn't like. Everything was delicious. The service was extraordinary, and the food was portioned well. What I mean is that there was no skimping on portion size. I offer my recommendation of Asia Manoa to anyone who wants delicious Chinese food in the Manoa area. Everything was flavored just perfectly.

The food is OK. More than I expected. I think the price is kind of high. But it's very clean and service was good too. Would like to go back again and try other food. But next time I would like to ask if they can cook less salty.

Mmmmm loved the awesome flavor of the Roast Duck Noodle soup I got here today! Great flavor broth with lots of duck and fresh choy sum. Loved it. Didn't need to add any chili or anything to the broth because it was perfect the way it was. I will be back for sure

A lot of people seem to really like this place. To it's credit, I didn't get the tremendous MSG headache after dining there that I usually get from Chinese food. That's where the compliments end. My wife and I stopped here after a hike up Manoa Falls and around the Lyon Arboretum. It was the best rated restaurant in town. Hell, the ratings were freakin' stellar. How could you go wrong? We started things off with a fried won ton appetizer. There was about a half of teaspoon of stuffing in each won ton, and about 4 table spoons of pastry wrapper. It mostly tasted like fried crackers with orange sauce. Edible, but not appetizing. I got brave and ordered a pork and oyster casserole. It was basically some pork belly and oysters steamed together. The pork was edible but not great - kind of stringy. The oysters tasted odd - kind of fatty and dirty. Not how oysters should taste. I lost my appetite completely after having one. My wife ordered the shrimp fried rice. It was really oily, and the oil it was fried in had an unusual flavor... not like the normal peanut or vegetable oil one expects to find in such a place. Overall, this place is a cut above your run of the mill Chef MSG's Chinese place, but if tons of carbs and weird tasting oil and fat isn't your deal I'd steer clear.

went here on mom's day and man was it crowded. as i sat there, with the sun directly blazing in my eyes, i couldnt help but think "they should have a shade on that glass door".... my poor corneas. anyhow, about the food: pretty good stuff. they had some sort of special soup that day (i'm not sure if it in fact was a special, or they were just trying to sell it). it had seafood and mushrooms... and was steaming hot delicious. also spinning round on the lazy susan was: - seafood taro basket - cake noodle with beef and veg - kau yuk (braised pork in buns) - Chinese chicken salad - roasted chicken - sea bass with ginger and onion sauce my favorites: sea bass and the seafood taro basket. overall, everything was good. not outstanding, not junk, but good. i'd eat here again......

We recently moved from Hawaii Kai and the yummy goodness of Harbor Village, based on the reviews we were excited to try what sounded like a comparably delicious restaurant. We ordered take out and were disappointed. I give two stars because of Yelp's definition "Meh" sums it up. From good to bleh: Good: Fried Calimari: Very yummy (a little too salty to me but that's just me), crispy decadent goodness. Ginger Chicken with Rice: This was pretty good, I love ginger anything so this was an easy sell. It wasn't a "Wow" but I would certainly eat it again if offered. Then came the bad: Almond Chicken and veggies: There was no flavor, just a weird gelatinous "sauce" Sweet and Sour Spareribs: This was so bad, I think it may have been the wrong dish. Spare ribs are ribs right? Delicious, decadent meaty bones with tasty sauce? This was a gelatinous, sickly sweet cube of goop. The meat was in grisly chunks that was both extreme dry/over-cooked and yet very, very fatty. I have no idea what this was supposed to be...I tried a bite and threw it away. With such a large menu there are sure to be hits and misses. We may try again, but it'll be on a night I know I have leftover in the fridge, just in case.

I dont know what the hell it was that we were just served but it was damn sho wasn't beef. Three of us ordered different beef dishes and the meat texture was spongy, jelloy,.."it was like beef gum" stated my disappointed cronies. Its was a shame because we were all buck ass hungry after hiking. The flavor was right but they should use real meat. It wasnt even chewable..you could not break this meat with a bite or by chewing it was like swallowing big squisy wiggly pieces of this over processed protein. I asked the waitress what cut of beef it was and she said she didnt know. Maybe because, IT AINT BEEF. I want my star and my $20 back. Yall were wrong for doing us like that.

Bland and expensive. The prices on the website were reasonable, but after ptciking up the food, prices were nearly 40% higher. I did take out. All together, the dinner weighed under 4 lbs, and cost 32.00. Most of the weight was rice Mongolian Beef...Greasy Greasy and not very good. 1 lb @ over $10 Chicken Currey. 2/3 rice. Bland Expensive And Fried Rice. Dry, expensive. Told myself from my last visit to never go again. I'll remind myself again next time.

My family loves this place. We have family that live close by and whenever we visit from the mainland we have to eat here. They were so kind to my grandparents - always welcoming my grandfather by name. I've even received texts with pictures of their fried oysters from other family (that's how much we love them). Everything there is delicious, but the absolute best - fried oysters, the salt and pepper pork chips, nothing has every disappointed us!

Great portion sizes and quick service! You get your food fast and hot. Not the friendliest chinese place but thats not really what chinese restuarants are known for right. . Parking is tight but not horrible. Food taste better when you go in and eat versus take-out for some strange reason.

We came here on a Sunday afternoon at around 1145, and there was only one other table there, but by the time we left, the place was about 2/3 full. We ordered the chicken with bitter melon in a black bean sauce. If you don't like bitter melon, don't get this because you won't like the melon. I don't mind it, and the chicken was cooked really tender. We also ordered potstickers, won ton mein, and pork with broccoli. Everything was great. My only critique is that they bring a huge bowl of rice for the table to share. I asked for 2 bowls thinking that they would give us 2 small bowls of rice. They came out with a heaping bowl that we didn't even eat half of! WHAT A WASTE!! I mean, they had to dump that rice out, right??? PLEASE JUST GIVE OUT SMALL BOWLS OF RICE, and only what is necessary...I knew that we all weren't going to be eating rice, so that's why I ordered 2 bowls for 5 people....I DON'T WANT A HUGE BOWL THAT I'M NOT GOING TO EAT! :)

Went here for the first time last night. Just by the name I thought it was maybe some kind of asian fusion restaurant. Why I do not know. The restaurant was easy to find and enough parking. My grandma had made reservations for for 9 people and requested we be seated along the wall, the lady said ok. When we got there, they seated us at one of the big round tables that was a little too small for all of us. She took our orders quick and the food came quick. I loved the chicken salad which had a peppery taste to the dressing, it added a little zing. We had ordered wal nut shrimp (which tasted great and not super maynasy like othere places), crispy gaugee , orange chicken ( kinda flavor less), beef fried rice with lettuce and house special cake noodle. Every thing was kinda salty except for the salad and orange chicken. I probably would come here again with a big group and if someone else suggests it.

Their mongolian beef is really good. The sauce goes so well with rice. They also have this squid thing with mustard cabbage in a sweet-sour sauce thats really good. The prices are really reasonable and its readily accessible since I live in Manoa already. The only issue I usually have when i go here is that there's a limited amount of parking since its located in a small area. If anything, you can park at Safeway and walk.

Cantonese family dinners; nothing fancy; it's about the food & ignore the rest. Tables for 10 & 12 are stuffed into corners; impossible to move. Taro duck. Stuffed duck (barley, water chestnuts, chestnuts, bamboo, etc.). Love them both. Sweet sour fish. Steamed fish. Green beans w/chili & pork. Ong choy w/fermented beans. Oysters, fried or casserole. Kau yuk. 3 kinds of eggs, steamed. If it's Cantonese, chef knows how to cook it.

Ok, so I used to like this place a lot and found it a very nice get=together location where sharing multiple dishes always made an evening an awesome adventure for ones taste buds. Don't think I ever had anything that would be bad tasting, in the worst case the food would be mediocre, but some were my constant favorites (walnut shrimp, beef broccoli, etc). But then one night I took my 2 friends out there and the hell broke free. They were nearly full, with some big family parties, but there were 2 tables free. We got our table instantly, which was the last nice thing for this evening. Shortly after us the place filled up completely and since that moment on we were completely ignored, not exactly sure why, guessing it might have something to do with the fact that we were the only caucasians in the restaurant. Anyway, summarizing: we got only 2 glasses of water for the 3 of us, then entrees came at completely different times (and I mean completely, first one was followed by the 2nd in 10 minutes or so, the 3rd one arrived nearly 30 minutes after the 2nd), still not accompanied by water, for which I asked multiple times. We were so upset and disappointed that we decided not to tip the waitress, since she did such a lousy job. Guess what happened next? She actually ran out after us as we were leaving to tell us that tip isn't included in the price and we didn't leave her any! When we explained to her that we were aware of that and we didn't tip on purpose because we were so dissatisfied with her and overall experience, she just huffed and puffed and called us rude. Do you think I ever came back or ever will? It's just a restaurant, I'll find a better one.

I've eaten lunch at Asia Manoa perhaps six times, but it is THE place that I suggest when someone wants to go "out" to lunch but still stick around the UH campus (well, that and Andy's if my partner is a vegephile). Unlike Lindsey C., I've never had a problem with their service: I've always been seated promptly and had food come within 15 minutes. Again, a good place for lunch, even on a schedule. The food is always pretty great. It's like Chinese comfort food without all the grease you normally get. I was kinda lukewarm on their lemon chicken at first (in their lunch combo), but now I'm a convert. The pork fried rice is awesome too. Their portions, at least for the lunch combos, are pretty large; mine took me three meals to eventually finish....

I love chinese food and asia manoa does it right. My favorites are the spicy green beans with minced pork & the black bean chow fun... *shiver* BUT, the thing that sucks so badly about asia manoa is their service. A few times that I've been there my party has been seated and no one has come to take our order for a good half an hour. I looked around and talked to a few people near me and they said they'd been waiting to have their order taken for almost an hour! The best thing to do is call in your order and pick it up. This is my new strategy anyway. Then you won't have to deal with being upset at the small wait staff. So again, Great food, poor service... really poor service

decent chinese food located right in manoa! my fave dishes are the vegetarian egg white fried rice and the boneless minute chicken cake noodles. my fam comes here a lot so we've gotten to know the waitresses and they're all really nice. my only complaint is they put weird meats in the soups (ham in the egg drop and some weird ground pork maybe? in the hot and sour) so my fam always orders those vegetarian style. parking can get busy esp on sunday nights but there's usually plenty of street parking pretty close.

Overall, the food is decent and the ingredients seem fresh. However, quality is inconsistent. I would avoid the orange chicken. While the sauce is tasty, it seems that there is no chicken....just deep fried hard chicken skin! Yuck! I used to love their noodles (gon lo mein) and have taken it to many parties where partyers enjoyed it as well. However, the last time I did a take-out order the gon lo mein was tasteless and soggy. I called and spoke with the manager. He said it depends on the cook that day and offered to refund my money. I declined but I'll never order food from them again or bring them new customers.

This place is one of my regulars. The music is really relaxing, the tea is very good, and the paintings of fortune cookies and rice bowls set the stage. The waitresses are always friendly and greet me and my dad with a smile. The green beans with minced pork have had varying degrees of yumminess. Sometimes it's not as crispy as other times, but still good. We also like to order the sweet and sour sea bass and crispy gau gee over soft noodle. This is another one of those places where you have to know what to order, and if you do know what to order, you won't be disappointed. I have given up on ordering sweet and sour spare ribs at Chinese restaurants, but that is another review in itself.

We had dinner here this past Tuesday night March 30th. After my aunt claiming that this place was the best Chinese restaurant in the Oahu area I expected it to be alot better. I have had much better in Frisco. Spicy eggplant, are u kidding me? Can u say, bland? Steamed pork hash with salted fish, bland and tough. On Choy with garlic sauce, so so. I wish Wong&Wong was still around but I know that they closed quite some time ago.

No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions.
