Went here for the first time after hearing great reviews from a fellow yelper and friend, Kris. She kept saying it's a dive bar but they have great food!!! Went on a Friday night. Parking lot was gull, so we had to look for street parking. I found one across the street. Didn't want to jay walk (even though many people were) because its against the law, i walked down to the crosswalk and then back up. I'm crazy. No booths were open, but the seats at the bar was open. That was nice. I had a long island iced tea ($7.00). It was yummers! Light in color, so you know there was lots of alcohol! Kris recommended we get the Shrimp Fried Rice and the Special Chicken. So ono!! I cant wait to come back and try their other specials. We wanted to play darts. And found an open table near the dart boards. kind of hard to play darts when a group of people were sitting in our path. but there were nice enough to move to the side. Then we chose a board that was on the other side so we wouldn't be in their way. After that cam a another couple started to play next to us. Then it started to get cramped. There was a lot of regulars there. The servers and owners knew them by name and knew what like to drink and eat. That's cool. Make you feel at home. The regulars that sat at the bar also love to sing karaoke! They are great singers. It was fun to sing along with them. One of the ladies even brings in her own maracas. It was just awesome!

Drinks and pupus after work... Chicken gizzards & crispy gau gee and of course Heinekin Lights! Anyways, the crispy gau gee was great! Plenty of beef mixture inside and pretty spicy tasty dipping sauce. The chicken gizzards would've been ok, but it was a bit over cooked. The tempura crust was good though. We did play pool, but got kicked off the table by some older men that took their sweet time playing. There's only one pool table there and you need $1 in quarters for it (typical bar pool table). Waitress/bartender was really friendly and attentive to our needs. The owner also stopped by our booth and talked for a bit and checked how we were doing. I've gone to this place a few times before and would definitely go back. Bear in mind, the place is not the prettiest, but service, food, pool table, and bathroom is pretty good for a hole in the wall kinda place.

Oh wow. This is DEFINITELY a Dive bar frequented by some of my ad agency friends. They are there Every. Single. Wednesday. Ummm....it's...dirty...seats are sticky...but you know...interesting. Cheap drinks

Love Love Love 8 Fat Fat 8... I actually found out about this place via the old Metromix website (and Yelp). My friends and I wind up here at least once a month for the chicken and poke! Also they have daily pupu and drink specials that rock. Some nights the Karaoke gets pumping and the whole bar sings along!! It's always a good time at this legen-wait-for-it-dary place!

After being stationed on O'ahu for too long I grew tired of tourist trap bars and wanted to go drink with some normal people. I believe it was a Wednesday night some friends and I went and we had a blast, there was only about 6 other people but we had a great time. The bartender was friendly and took great care of everyone, some girls were singing karaoke it was pretty funny. Also I had a very interesting conversation with a rape counselor. If I ever make it back to O'ahu I will definitely stop by here again.

Hands down great service. Everyone there is nice. It doesn't look like there's any beers on tap but the drinks they do have, it is CHEAP. They have happy hour and daily drink specials. Fridays are $5 for a large Kirin. Food wise, not the best or cheapest but it's alright. Then again, I'm really not a fan of local style Chinese food. They have a decent steak for $16. And they give you free peanuts. I love that it's a family kind of place, even if it's a bar. You've got people and their kids just hanging out, playing darts, pool, karaoke, gives me a nice feeling. Plus since it's a mostly older crowd, it empties out by like 10pm so it's great place to chill. I've never had a hard time with parking there, either street or in the Midas.

Cha-nese and Karaoke? Win Win! Luck Luck! Nice bar. Puffy stools with backs. $1 songs. Regulars crooning Neil Diamond and the like. Pretty good grinds. Me likey. Fried rice with lupcheong is tasty tasty - sweet lupcheong, savory goodness, fried egg on top. Yum. Poke is just OK. It's not the freshest, but it is served with really yummy spicy sauce. We didn't finish it. Fried pork chop - man is this sinfully good. Great spice of pepper, really thick and crispy. Too bad it still had parts of bone in the small pieces. I wish they had cut the bone separately for those that like to gnaw (like me!) Spicy stir fried ika on cake noodle. Pretty good, perfectly cooked broccoli. They used to have a different menu, so no more pot stickers, but this was not a loss and they identify the items they renamed (like 8 Fat Fat 8 special sandwich - formerly known as spam and egg sandwich, cracking me up!) Can't wait to try the fried lettuce and escargot. Minus one star because the bartender is frazzled and tends to sing rather than serve. We like the girl with the glasses :) Also, their prices have gone up. Domestics are $3.50 and they had no good drink specials. It got expensive pretty quickly ($180) BONUS: They have the karaoke book by ARTIST!!!! You know what dat means!

  • sky i.

Yeah, it's a dive bar, so what?? Get 4 dart boards, one pool table and ONO GRINDZ. Plus, get the old style karaoke with half drunk customers warbling all through the night. I likes it. Bwahaha.

8 fat fat 8 is a fantastic local dive bar where you feel right at home. They have strong drinks at reasonable prices and food. The food is OK, it's not anything special, but who is really worried about food when you are enjoying the friendly atmosphere. Aside from food and drinks there is also KARAOKEEEEE! 8 fat fat 8 has a huge selection of karaoke songs. The people singing are usually pretty amazing and seem to have a great time doing it. They are also willing to share the spot light with not so good people (like myself). As long as you are enthusiastic about it, everyone has a good time. The joint itself has a great dive bar feel to it. As soon as you walk in there are dart boards so be careful. There are some pool tables and few booths. If you can find a place to sit capitalize on it. The bar is on the far end of the place and can be hard to get to when it's packed. Final verdict, this place is great for drinks and karaoke. People are friendly and its a nice atmosphere. If you live in makiki it's also a quick walk so you don't have to drive after drinking.

This review is based on my take-out dining experience which will have me coming back for more! We were looking for a place to pick some fried rice and fried pork chops up since Side Street was closed on New Years and was hopeful 8 Fat Fat 8 was open. Yay, it was! We ordered the shrimp fried rice and the pork chops... the fried rice was how my wife likes it, not soft and mushy but it could have used a little more "stuff" in it. Still, really good ... if I had to categorize it I would say it was more "Chinese" fried rice than local fried rice. The pork chops were good but I was hoping for that deep(er) fried style with onions and mushrooms. Still, for the price it was a good meal and the staff was very friendly while I waited. We'll definitely be coming back here to sample more dishes and the great drink prices they have.

What at first glance looks like a seedy dive bar turns out to be more than meets the eye. The waitresses are super friendly and attentive, the food is fantastic, and the booth next to you is singing Don't Stop Believing by Journey. Nice. The demographic seems to consist of hip white collar, a smattering of bluish collar playing pool or darts, and the kids singing Journey are twenty somethings who probably have their fixed gear bikes locked out front. There's an overall friendly vibe. They serve a variety of Chinese dishes and give you free peanuts and chips for pupus. Crispy chicken is the way to go and the seasoned stir fried edamame is great.

YUMMY! We ordered Fried Rice, 8 Fat Fat 8 Edamame, and Steak with Onions and Mushrooms. I was very satisfied with my meal. :) Got there on a non busy night, grabbed a booth and service was excellent. Recommended to those who love yummy food that goes excellent with beer!

Get your bathing suits on and dive into this bar! Great Chinese bar food. A must: 8 fat fat 8 chicken, mushrooms (probably cooked in a pound of butter) who cares! Ong choi with cake noodles..sooo guud! If your with my brave Fear Factor Chinese friends fried gizzards and escargots! Yeah!!! Oh yes you dies hard American Idol participants you can practice here all night. =)

I really liked the escargot!!! It was super tasty and drenched in a nice sauce with garlic and green onions. It was delicious on the pieces of toast it came with. I kinda wish we ordered more of it now :P I was a bit underwhelmed by the special chicken...but maybe because I had heard so much of the hype prior to going there. One of my friends said she wished it were a bit crispier, and I have to agree. BUT it was definitely good, just not great. I think Kin Wah in Kaneohe has better chicken. The beef cake noodle was really good, but again, nothing extraordinary. Still, I'd order this again too. Also had the pork chops with garlic, and that was really good. Definitely recommended if you like meat (like me!). Had the garlic fries, and I don't think I would order this again. It basically was fries served with a heap of minced garlic on top. Their beef chow funn was on special that night, so we ordered it. I really liked the the flavor, and the texture of the noodles was different from what I used to. It was on the chewier side (versus the soft kind), which I kind of liked. We didn't go when it was happy hour, but I don't think they have the greatest deal. Prices are pretty reasonable though. I can see why people like this place though: comfortable atmosphere, friendly service, there's a pool table, $1 per song karaoke, and an area where you can play darts. It's pretty loud in there. It was good to try out, since I've always driven by and wondered what it's like inside. I'd probably go again, if only to try some of the other food items I didn't get to, like their fried rice (with lup cheong!) and the fried lettuce.

Came in on a Friday night, it wasn't super packed at 6. The gau gee is very plump and tasty, the $5 kirin's hit the spot, darts, pool and Karaoke...Cant beat it...It's definitely not an "ultra" lounge, and that just fine with us. Another plus was the friendly staff.

Pro's: -Great Food!: I'd def go for Fat Fat Chicken. It's basically called 'Crispy Chicken' in Chinese Cuisine, But done very VERY Well! Moist interior with light crispy skin, sprinkled and served with a spiced salt. Ahi Poke: Cant go wrong with this! Fresh! Other Fav's: Lap Cheung Fried Rice w/Egg, Ong Choi w/ ur choice of meat over Cake Noodles. Prices: the prices for both the food & drinks are very reasonable! Decent rotating Drink Specials (x1 Shot & x1 Type of Beer for $3.50 Changes Daily) Service: ALWAYS the Best Here! Everyone who Works/Serves here are friendly and helpful. Crowd/Atmosphere: What we like here most of all are the patrons & Staff. Very low key, cute little neighborhood Dive Bar, Where Everyone Knows your Name Kinda Place. The Patrons are unpretentious, & generally genuine. Desperate Douches attempts & their signature hidden agendas seems to be curbed to a minimum here. Which is a very very rare & valuable trait for any bar to have. As a woman, it's a problem more often delt with than one might think. And counts for more than you think for us when deciding on a place to re-visit on a consistent basis. That is, if u or ur self esteem strives on that kinda stuff. I guess, Each to their own. Cons: Hmmmmm....the only one I can think of is...There's only 1 Pool Table in the Bar. Sometimes you may have to wait a while to get ur game in. Other than that I highly Recommend 8 fat fat 8!!

8 fat fat has always killed it. This place is a sleeper. It looks like a hostess bar, but it is not. The food is very good here! I think the escargot is super tasty. Donna is hilarious. And Mary Anne, the owner, is an absolute sweetheart. Yea. The Karaoke can get out of hand here at times, but I've been part of the problem on more than a few nights so I can't be hating on it. I sing a mean Sweet Caroline. I make Neil Diamonds voice sound smooth...my version is super dirty and gritty... Warning! They will shut down your mic here if you start swearing, freestyling, or blurt out racist epithets too often in one night. I've almost been escorted out of here on more than a few occasions. That is okay though...they still love me here, and they always remember my name. I think this is a good spot to go on a first date where the tension might be a little high. The people that go here are chill and cool, and it is a low pressure enviornment. Kick Butt Fat Fat!

Just love this place, not the prettiest place but the food is awesome, gotta try the lup cheong fried rice, gau gees are packed with meat, poke is good too with big chunks of ahi, french fries are nice and crispy, and the steak and onions is way tasty too. I bring my whole family.

Ok - 2nd trip to Hawaii means 2nd trip to 8 FAT FAT 8. My return didn't dissapoint - it only allowed me to finally take a handle on the mike and FINALLY start singing in public. What did the S-toyas and I sing? You ready for this? INOJ- Time After Time, Madonna - Holiday, Kenny Loggins - Footloose - and sang back up to our friends who chose Bab's and Celine's - Tell Him. Laugh away, but it was insane. We did the songs with crowd involvement, we shared the mike with the crowd, we brought our own MC Grey Sekiya, rocked out dance moves - the crowd was loving it. If you were there Friday, May 22, 2009, you were lucky to witness us when we're out of the cage. Of course, we had the Lup Chung Fried Rice again - grindz to the max!!! Anyways, if you and your friends need a chill place to go that's free from attitude, cover, and douchebag-ness, come out at support 8 FAT FAT 8. I can't wait to go back...again..and again..and again....

Cheap beer by the bottle only. Great food, and a unique atmosphere. This is definitely a place that you are welcome to become a regular.

Total dive bar, great mixed crowd, full of positive energy, great drinks and food at reasonable prices. Karaoke, Darts, Pool, Food, Beer, Alcohol, and a parking lot (: What else can you ask for?

  • Joy W.

Sure it's a dive, but I'm willing to bet it's the best dive bar out there. The service is attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is relaxed and laid back. There's no pretentiousness here. The food is ono -- especially the special chicken -- and you can do take out, too. Gets kinda loud when the karaoke is on or the dart tournament is in full swing but that just adds to the experience. Overall, just a cool, fun place to hang out and chill with some friends over some cheap drinks.

  • Terrasita F.

Great karaoke and waitresses with almost laughable attitude. The pool table is in a tight spot, but that is commonplace in Hawaiian bars. I love to party here - uhhh... I just make sure to eat before hand.

Sunday at 3:30 pm for 2: Stir fry steak and brocolli in black bean sauce with cake noodle was delicious ($13). Special deep fried chicken ($10) - Ok. Side bowl of rice ($2) - Thought it came with the chicken based on the picture on yelp. Beer $3.50 each. Ambiance - old and shady inside and out. Service - 5 stars. Overall rating about 3.8.

Looking for a place to impress your date on your very first outing? Searching for ambience, candlelight, valet parking, and hardwood floors? Then you're in the wrong neighborhood, mon ami. However, if you're looking to have a good time, sing some karaoke, play some (mini) pool or darts, drink, and EAT GOOD GRUB, fatties is the place for you. The bar is located on Beretania next to Midas, and parking is either street or the Midas lot. It's a hole in the wall in every sense of the word, so don't expect to be wowed by its decor. Your date will not be impressed if he's used to the finer things in life, or if she's more Lewers Lounge than a lounge. But their reaction to the place can be a good indicator of how they roll :) I hate giving them 5 stars because this means I may have to fight for parking and table space. But I gotta give credit where credit is due, and 8 fats deserves all the kudos it gets. Drinks: they have lots of beer selection, full bar, premium, sake, and all that jazz. Prices are not bad either. Karaoke: their song selection runs from oldies to now, and the atmosphere is real friendly-like. At any given day, you'll hear someone belting out a tune. Darts/pool: they have 4 dart boards and a small pool table, enough to keep you occupied if your friends start to bore you. Food: now we get to the meat of the matter . . . our standard order, be it a group of two or ten, is the 8 fat chicken, 8 fat soybeans, and beef with cake noodle. Clearly this is not enough for 10 peeps, so we double the order, add french fries and lup chong fried rice, and drink more. And yes, with two people we can almost finish three dishes. It's that good. Ok, gotta go - meeting some friends at 8 fats. . .

This bar is a real dive. It's dirty, old, and unkempt, but the food has been good all these years and somehow I keep returning. I haven't eaten there lately, but we used to love their beef chow funn, chicken, fried rice, and spicy poke which was really, really good. The reason why I didn't eat anything the last time is because when I got there my friend was eating dried roasted ika with mayonnaise and when I looked at the menu, I saw that they were now charging $11 for it!! I put that menu down! That is crazy!

Fried chicken is great. Garlic edamame has lots of garlic just how we like it. Yhe service was excellent.

I was searching for a good neighbourhood bar upon moving and the 8 appears to be exactly that. Not fancy or dressed up by any means, and thats what I happen to like. Very down to earth and a bit divey. They don't do cheap cheap drink specials that I can see, so you alcoholic college students stay away. They do have a daily special and happy hour from 4-7. I've had about 4 or 5 things from their menu and have never been disappointed. Prices are very reasonable for the amount you receive which could generally feed two. The staff is very friendly and cater to a very regular crowd. They also have karaoke on request, a pool table, a megatouch machine and an internetbased juke that's pretty decent. Stop in for a beer and some food sometime. Unless you're a trendy douche, then go somewhere else.

Great happy hour, this is the place I am likely to be found while I wait on my man to get something done. Awesome Salt and pepper shrimp, heads and all baby.

Havent been in a while but the escargot here sticks out in my memory...it's actually the reason I LOVE the stuff now! The comfortable atmosphere....you don't feel intimidated walking in there. We used to go after work with the work crew - all ages - and everyone had fun! Just chill or if youre the type who has to 'do' something, they have it all - darts, pool and karaoke.

I remember as a kid (again) and coming here with my father. I remembered the fried shrimp here that was so good. Almost 20 years later, this place had great reviews so I decided to come here again. Sat in a nice big booth drinking one of the nice $3 beer specials which they have a different one for each day in the week. We ordered the chinese style fried chicken and began to enjoy the Karaoke for a buck. I don't know if anyone enjoys it when I sing System Of A Down stuff but I love it, although it scares my mom a little. They did forget we ordered the chicken but it was on the house, and the waitress was so nice she gave us hugs. When I ate it at home, it was delicious.

  • Al L.

Yeah-it's a dive but at least it's a friendly neighborhood one! Heinkens on Wednesday for $3.50/bottle, good fried rice and lots of drunk patrons singing their hearts out. Go there for a good time, enjoy the Karaoke and order some food to soak up the alcohol!

    (4)
  • Fanchon B.

Pupus are great. Specials are awesome. Def not a bar to see and be seen. Local crowd who just want a brew after work or to play pool. Clubbers need not come in. Bartenders are friendly in the show Cheers kind of way. Def a place if you come more than once they will all know your name.

  • Rise D.

This is a dive bar that serves some pretty good food. I liked the escargot and some of the other dishes. Most of the dishes are Chinese or have a Chinese twist. I still prefer Sidestreet, but 8 Fat Fat 8 is a good alternative. Service was ok both times I've been here.

Darts! Darts! Darts! So the little lady wanted me to find a place to play darts while were visiting Hawaii. I yelped darts and this little gem came up. Fantastic little dive bar! The bartender was the owner. Her mom was walking around handing ppl Hershey's kisses. There was a nice big screen with a UH game on. The jukebox was playing great music. We had a blast and have been back since. Parking is a challenge.

Roast chicken; tender and juicy delicious, salt/pepper pork chops; very flavorful; rib eye steak and onions; classic combo done great, fried noodles; onolicious. Had to go to the hospital after cause my mouth was all broke! Wait help was totally on it.

I've been twice this month. The first visit was pleasant - we don't have many regular neighborhood bars here. It was nice to drop in, shoot some darts, and have a few beers. Budweiser was cheap. Dart board sucked. Staff and customers were nice. I liked it. The second time the karaoke machine was turned up so loud it was screechy. You had to shout to be heard. Beer was still cheap, staff was still nice, but damn it was not a pleasant night at all. Ears hurt. We drank fast & got out of there just as fast.

I'm usually out at sea for 3/4 of the year (I hunt porpoise with a 75mm), but let me tell you one thing, when I want to "get my land-legs on," I crave this place! The pot stickers, though not made with pot, are quite good and I love the clientele. They make me want to sing, and they accept me for who I am - 45% North Korean, 70% beast. Also, the waitresses rock and willingly hug. They're all over it.......that's what she said.

  • Tyrone H.

great place for drinks and karaoke. The people are friendly and the drinks are cheap! They have great specials and the food is delicious. Get the crispy gau gee.

I hate to do this because there is such positive feedback here, but last night, as several 8fatfat8ers will admit, there was some serious slacking. A buddy and I spent 2 and a half hours there, and about 2 of those hours trying to get drinks. The only way we were able to get them was by going up to the server and asking for them in a really awkward way. Seriously terrible. Nice and all, but terrible. Haha. On the bright side, I was able to save a bunch of money by having two beers in two hours and then leaving out of a kind of hilarious frustration. True, you don't have to wait in line for a beer, but you don't have to wait at a table for one either, because on Sunday nights apparently you can't get one. Just telling it like i saw it.

    (2)
  • Kristi S.

I give it an extra star for nostalgia. My friends and I make it a point to come here when everyone's in town for greasy spoon Chinese better than most restaurants in Chinatown. Maryanne and Donna are always friendly and helpful and they keep the bar stocked with bottled beers that you could probably only otherwise buy on tap at Bar 35 and Yard House--for twice the price. Their karaoke selection is passable; they also have darts, pool and electric juke machines to keep idle hands busy. Otherwise, this is a great dive to chill in the corner with friends and enjoy each other's company.

  • amanda i.

just a real chill place to drink some cheap beer and listen to (bad) karaoke. 4 dartboards and a pool table. convenient and unpretentious. pretty good in my book

    (4)
  • Cedric T.

Not only is the service great, Donna made art with us, kept dropping off candy every 5 minutes, the food was pretty good (mostly because they had 3 different kinds of good spicyness - edamame had a perfect garlic spice, the chicken went soo good with the chili oil and we got calimari that came with soy-sauce-hot-mustard sauce), but the locals really made the experience great too. First they shuffled around so that we could fit at the bar, and then one of the guys we met, Fred, bought us drinks and paid for us to sing karoake. Once Rachel and I started singing Dancing Queen someone broke out shakers and the whole bar was dancing and shaking their bodies to shake the shakers, it was incredible. Not bad for our first real day in Hawaii. We went because it was the only place that would be open at 9 pm on a Tuesday, with delicious and cheap asian food and we knew it would be a good way to meet people and get drinks. They want us to come back tomorrow, we're seriously considering it.

my fav bar dive of all time. they got awesome food. try the fried lettuce, doesn't sound like much but taste good enough to turn a fat guy vegetarian. they got all kinds of foods and a decent beer selection. also got drunk karaoke! u can't go wrong with drunk karaoke

I'm looking for a bar with cheap drinks and great food so I had to check this place out. This place is kind of dingy with decently priced beer. The chicken was ok, it tasted like huli huli chicken that had crispy skin. I might just stop again to check out their fried lettuce.

    (3)
  • sampaguita p.

chinese style chicken with skin so crispy and flesh so steamily tender you'll dream about it for nights after. lup cheong fried rice that is not overly greasy yet is simply flavorful and has no peas in it (praise the lawd!). a beer list that includes shock top, newcastle, maui brewing's coconut porter, framboise, and black butte porter (my go-to beer) for much less than you'd pay at yard house, bar 35 or varsity (which really needs to do something about its uneven floor and lack of good food). after that, there's really not much more that needs to be said, but i'll add that the service is welcoming and well-executed. oh, try the fried lettuce. it's good, too! my only complaint is that it's not immediately located in my neighborhood. we need one of these in kaimuki!

  • elisa o.

Parking can improve!!! OK I don't care much for escargot but this place makes you beg for more! The flavoring! Basically whatever you order, you pretty much can not go wrong! We had plates and plates of things and everything tasted AWESOME!!! Hole in the wall hidden on Beretania! And don't forget to bring your darts!!! Pretty good selection of alcohol too!!!

  • Bianca I.

Let me put it this way. I was into the first 10 minutes of a first date at 8Fats when Mary (she was bartending that night), yelled over to me, "Hey! It's your mom. She wants to know if you're coming home for dinner!" 8Fats is my favorite neighborhood bar and a second home. I see artsy folks from the university, my mother's office coworkers, and guys that I surf with as well. Family owned and run, they care about good beers, and have a decent karaoke selection. This place has everything. Darts and pool. They carry exotics and domestics, Aventinus as well as Bud light. And the food is great. My favorite is the mochiko ika. Not to miss!

8 Fat Fat 8, or 8 Fatty 8 to it's friends has been around for a long time and they have survived mainly because they put out a very good food product and it's true that they have a surprisingly good selection of alchol i.e. more beer than you might expect. Try the 8 Fat Fat 8 Chicken. It is 1/2 a chicken cooked in such a way that the skin is super crispy and it is moist but not greasy and they serve it simply with a small dish of salt and pepper which I would touch the chicken to before eating and that makes all the difference. Parking can be a problem I guess though not much worse than most other bars in the area. Also they are pretty service oriented we had a birthday celebration there and they reserved a table and also made a great steamed red snapper which isn't on the menu and required a special trip to the fish store to get. Heck, I'm raising my rating from 4 to 5 based on that alone.

A friend recommended this place to me. We know one another from a total dive bar we both frequent in Los Angeles for the karaoke scene there and his mother lives on Oahu so I figured we would probably have the same tastes in karaoke spots. We got here and it was indeed a total dive and pretty empty. No one was singing karaoke, they were all watching the Country Music Awards and sitting at the bar. Our group of 5 sat down at a table since we intended to eat dinner. The menu is strange... A bunch of Chinese food, some I've never heard of, some really weird sounding stuff such as "fried lettuce," and then burgers and fries and "emergency food" such as popcorn. Two of the guys decided to order a burger and the waitress (or owner?) Donna was not having it. "What?? Why would you order a burger? Our food is delicious." So, I took it upon myself to order for the table. We had nearly everything and it was INCREDIBLE. No joke. Donna was not kidding. My favorites were the GINGER NOODLES (OMGoodness, these noodles are to die for. They come with a topping of ginger, garlic, and scallions that is amazing), the 8 Fat Fat 8 SPECIAL CHICKEN (the skin is out of this world. The chicken is perfectly cooked. And dip it in the wasabi sauce she brings out... You will not be sorry), and the FRIED LETTUCE (seriously. It's stir fried with garlic and soy and who knows what else. It's not at all what it sounds like. It's delicious!) Honestly, everything was good but those were my favs. We also had steamed dumplings, deep fried dumplings, egg rolls, Chinese sausage fried rice, salt and pepper shrimp, and a noodle dish with cake noodles, beef, and Chinese broccoli. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. Donna also brought us a plate of peanut butter filled pretzels after we ate and a bunch of kid sized candy bars. For karaoke you pay a buck a song and they bring you the microphone. You sing from your seat. We were worried about turning off the CMA's but Donna assured us it was fine and we started singing. Once we got the ball rolling the other regulars joined in. All in all our table sang about 15 or 20 songs. It was awesome! I highly recommend it for you karaoke junkies who like to sing, and anyone who digs Chinese food.

This is the worse bar I've ever been to!!! Service really sucks!!! We arrived at 6:30 PM. Placed our drink and food orders at 6:45 PM with our waitress, Cheryl. We got our drink order fairly quickly. At approx. 8:00 PM, the other waitress, Donna, asked us if we wanted pretzels; I told her that we were still waiting for our food. Well, the pretzels never came...and neither did our food orders. Other parties who arrived and ordered after us were getting their food before us. By 8:30 PM, we had still not gotten our food, so we went to find our waitress, Cheryl (who hadn't returned to our table after the first few drinks), and told her to cancel our food order. She came to our table and told us that the kitchen had just started cooking our order...almost 2 hours after we ordered it!!! We confirmed that we were canceling our order and left the bar. We walked down the block to Honolulu Burger Company and got delicious burgers & fries -- cooked & served to us in 5 minutes! Other people in our party, including the birthday girl, who arrived before us never got their food either. By 9:15 PM, they left, too. The wait staff never came to the table to let us know that the food orders were backed up, never gave us an estimated wait time, and never apologized for the extremely long wait. Note that even though this was a week night, the reservations were made way ahead for a party of at least 15-20 people. So, the management should have planned to have adequate staff to serve people in a timely manner.

What a wonderful bar. We had reservations at Cafe Sistina but came here first for some pre-drinks. The bartender/patrons were awesome! We almost stayed here and canceled Sistina. The beer/cocktail prices were incredible too! I can't say enough about this place, even though we stopped in only for drinks. I can't wait to go back for dinner next.

I finally went to 8 Fat Fat 8, but I just thought it was alright. The food was actually pretty tasty and the service was good. We ordered their famous fried chicken and the gau. Both are fried, and both are yummy. I really liked the sauce that came with the gau. It was flavorful, and went well with the gau. The chicken was also tasty, lightly seasoned, and it came with the salt and pepper mix, if you desire to add it. My favorite of the two was the gau. So many places around town are competing for top fried pollo. This was good, but not one of my faves. If I came back, I'd get the gau and a noodle dish, or something. The atmosphere is a little sketch, but don't be deterred by its rough exterior. The staff is friendly, the karaoke singers are pretty great, and we actually found street parking on a Saturday night...win! I can appreciate a good dive bar, and this plates hits all the marks when it comes to being divey. It's dark, kind of dirty, had obvious regulars, and some older folks. The seating in the booths is actually not very comfy. You can feel the springs in them, so that kind of made us not hang out as long. It was uncomfortable. All in all, we had a nice time here. I would not come back here regularly, but I'm glad I finally made it, it's a nice dive bar with tasty food. I'm not a huge drinker, so the food is a big factor for me.

So much better service! Especially from Donna, she is awesome! Great food too. Bacon pupu is simple, but hits the spot. Crispy gau gee is delicious and hot. Beef ong Choy with cake noodles are tasty; we get them every time we come here. Ika geso is fried up crispy and delicious. It's a pretty chill place, and good to play pool, darts and sing karaoke. They also play sports and other shows on the tv's. Great little place to hang out!

First things first. Its a hole in the wall. Don't expect a pretty place that you feel the need to dress up and feel high end. You'll be disappointed! This is a bar like cheers, filled with regular patrons. Their parking is right before the bar, be careful not to miss it. Parking can get a little tight and taken up quickly, leaving you to park on the street. Which is okay, for me, I don't mind. They have daily drink specials and pupu specials for you to enjoy. The food is very tasty, the real reason I go. The definite must-haves are steak with onions, crispy gau gee, and cake noodles. I have tried their fried noodles too, that's pretty tasty too. They got darts, pool tables, and their background music played is people singing karaoke.

Sometimes you just need bar food....but some of my favorite bar food places serve enough for you and 12 friends to share. We decided to check out 8 Fat Fat 8 to see how their food was. I hadn't been there in about 10 years, but did remember the food was great. We had onion rings, edamame, crispy gau gee and fried pork chops. Yes, it was a fried food night. The server was super attentive (in fact we had to make her wait while we decided what to order). There was enough food for 2 of us to totally overindulge and bring home leftovers. Leftover were packed up for us and even included extra sauce for the porkchops and gau gee. That was a nice extra touch. I'll have to go back to try the fried lettuce that someone else mentioned. It sounds intriguing.

I usually don't write reviews but this one deserved it. It's Tuesday August 25th 2015, and my wife and I came here after work because we seen that this place had good reviews. We came in and sat down at one of the booths, 10 minutes went by and there was no waiter in sight. We looked around and seen that there was only one waitress working. However, she was talking story with other people after she clearly seen us sitting there. I had to call for her and ask for a menu in which she gave us. We sat there for another 15 minutes without her coming back to order. She didn't even offer us water. There was a group of Asian men who came in after us and the waitress got their order and was talking story with them, but very unprofessional, like she was talking to a friend, swearing and all. After 30 minutes without being tended to, my wife and I left. The waitress was a short fat lady with tight clothes on and drag make-up.

I haven't been back to here in ages and it's even more of a dive bar then I remember. This small bar with five TV's (Only two are flat screens), three dart boards and a pool table is where we decided to watch this weeks UH Football game. We decided to try some of their food to pick on and ordered the Fat Fat Soybean, Crinkle Fries and Fat Fat Special Chicken. To be really honest , the best thing was the crinkle fries...So disappointing. I'm sure some of the other dishes are probably good, but I thought the prices were kind of high for a dive bar. Being here several times before I just felt that this place has lost some it's appeal, as we decided to leave at half time of the game. Would I come back ? Maybe just to a few... Service was just OK to me and seemed kind of spotty.

8 Fat Fat 8 is a place you go to with friends to relax and and have a good time. Come as you are. No dressing up or need to impress. The interior is typical dive bar with well worn booths, but it's surprisingly well lit, which means you see everything. For grindz the fried rice and salt and pepper pork chops are favorites, drinks are reasonably priced, and you can sing karaoke till 2 am. An okay place when you want to go out without the fuss.

This is my first time here. My ex and his friends use to go there a lot, but when I asked to join, he always said, "you won't like it there because you don't drink." Really!?!?! Clown! Uh, hello, HAVE YOU SEEN ME LATELY?! I may not drink, but I love to eat! Teri Y. and I are pretty compatible when it comes to food. There isn't much that we don't agree on, including Fried Food Friday. (we call it that no matter the day of the week!) We ordered the fried porkchops, which were good, but I think I would have preferred the pan fried. Edamame is a given when going to a bar. The crispy gaugee was stuffed with so much filling, it put Chinese restaurants to shame. (Sorry Chinese restaurant owners!) I love onion rings and if they are prepared right, I can inhale the whole plate in a matter of minutes. These were light and crispy, and the whole piece of onion slid out leaving a crispy shell to gnosh with ketchup. So yum!!! We got so full so fast that leftovers were packed up for Teri's snack. The server gave us new dipping sauces which was really nice of her. Granted the establishment is an older one and a little worn on the inside, it's going to be on my "let's go there again" list.

Very chill local bar with friendly staff. The food is amazing! I love their house special fried chicken, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, the perfect contrast! However it takes 20 minutes for them to prepare it ...but it will be one of the best 5 minutes of your life enjoying the chicken! After grinding the good food, you can play some pool and/or dart.

Dive bar that serves Chinese food. The food was ok. I wasn't blown away by anything. Service is also friendly but remiss (our server forgot about us). I wouldn't mind hanging out here with friends though as the booths are quite comfy and they serve big bottles of Kirin.

The food was ono!!! The service was awesome! Right when we sat down a waitress told us of the specials and our drinks were served and they were cold unlike other bars... we all agreed that the fried chicken and the fried lettuce was the best! Oh even the gau gee :) we are definetly going back! Thursdays heineken special is worth it!!!

The food is great at this place! They've been in operation for many years, and it shows in the decor, but that is part of the charm of this establishment. The food is heart-clogging goodness that I could eat every day if I didn't care about my health. The beer selection is much better than previous years when they used to only have domestic lagers, now they have a decent assortment of craft beers, too. I can walk to 8 fat fat 8, and that is dangerous, because I will do it. Bring your singing voices, too, because the karaoke is fun!

I'm really sad because this is the first time in a long time that I've been ripped off by a waitress. The drink specials were very good, the food was good although I didn't have much. My problem is that the waitress tried to rip me off big time! I asked for a separate tab and my friend said he will pay cash as he goes. The waitress charged all of the items for both parties on my tab, and then pocketed the cash! I ordered for me and my friends 8 beers on my credit card, my friend ordered 5 beers and 2 shots and paid her cash + tip as she brought them. Well, at the end of the night my friend left, so the waitress tried to charge me for 13 beers and 2 shots!!! I told her that my friend already paid for his. She wanted to argue with me. I sent the tab back, she brought it back and adjusted it to 8 beers, 0 shots. I confirmed it was correct. She runs my credit card, and I see she sneakily charged my card for 11 beers! I told her I only had 8 beers and she pulled me up to the bartender and made it appear as if I was a liar. In the end, the bartender was kind enough to adjust my order, although she looked annoyed (Not sure if at me or the waitress). I ended up paying for 9 beers. Then the waitress chased me out the door onto the streets! She was yelling at me saying she didn't do anything wrong! I told her to leave me alone. After seeing that, someone on the street came up to me and said.... "That waitress messed up my order too." Another customer came up to me and said "I asked that waitress for a water and it took her 45 mins to bring it, next time you should demand a different waitress." So I guess I wasn't the only one. There won't be a next time though, too many honest places to choose from on this island.

This place has REALLY gone downhill. Strike 1: We went in with a group of colleagues for a pau hang. I made reservations a few days ahead because it was a large group. When we got there, they had no record of a reservation. Strike 2: Aside from the crispy chicken, the food quality was subpar, especially the lup cheong fried rice. Strike 3: The worst part was the service. The waitress screwed up on our orders at least 6 times that night. We got the wrong drinks, didn't get our drinks, had to reorder 3 times AFTER she had already brought us the wrong drinks, we didn't get all of the food we ordered, and it took 4 attempts and 45 minutes to get our final round of drinks. Probably would have been at least 3 more rounds if she hadn't messed that one up. Strike 4: Unruly bar patron shouting and cursing over the Karaoke mic with seemingly no interference from management. Almost escalated into an altercation. Strike 5 (yeah, this isn't baseball): I went back again today (few weeks later) to give it another chance. Waitress took forever to even acknowledge me (conversing with the guys at the bar was more important). I get my drink, finish it about 15 minutes later, then wait another 30 min before she even comes to check on me. Verdict: not worth it folks. You'll walk away more angry and needing another drink from another bar. Better to drink at home and eat leftovers from the fridge.

This place has really exceeded my expectations. I have a co worker who screamed to me, "I love 8 Fat Fat 8". We decided to check this place out, since we were looking for a place for a late lunch. This place can be a little hard to find, considering it's located on busy Beretania street. At first glance, this place seems a little run down, which means it's been around for quite some time. We walked in and looked at the menu. I was impressed by the food items because it's not your typical "bar food", we ordered the chop steak cake noodles, 8 Fat Fat 8 chicken, and chicken gizzards. Whoa, it was a lot of food! The plates were over flowing with food. The second time we came, we brought two of our friends. It was a Saturday night and it was a little busy. It was fun since there was karaoke and everyone was singing, just keep in mind it's a $1 per song. This time around we ordered a bunch of food, but we made sure the gizzards, speciality chicks and cake noodles was ordered. Our friends were so impressed and satisfied. The quality is always perfect and tasty. Even of parking can be a pain, it's worth it to drop by and grab a brew and some pupus you won't regret it!

Best Dive Bar Ever. Seriously, 8 fats (everyone has a nickname for this place YOU WILL TOO) has saved boring nights on many occasions. I've been here wearing rubber slippers and shorts as well as pretty decked out after a fancy night out. It's usually a random, serendipitous occasions when I end up at 8fats. 99% of the time it ends very good! The crowd is random and mixed-aged. The convo with my BFF- her- "where you like go?" him- "i dunno" her- "k, meet you at 8 fats in 30 mins" fast forward 60 minutes later her- "frick, I'm bus" him- "hahahahahaha" her- "shut-up" Goood times FUN----The karaoke here is always going off so know that you might wait awhile for your song. It's one of those places where you sing the classics and the whole crowd sings with you. Also, there is a pool table and some darts to entertain your self with. FOOOD and DRINK---Every single night there is a drink special AND food special- yayayay! The food here is good! My fave is the fat fat chicken but the potstickers, salt pepper pork chops, lup cheong fried rice, fried noodles, and suprisingly fried lettuce are tasty. Also, don't be fooled by their shabby looking bar. They actually have some fancy beers and liquor. Thursdays are my favorite because Stella is on special and so is Crown--- good times!

i like the food!!! i thought another bar's chicken gizzards was the best, sorry, but 8 fat fat 8 just beat it!!! SUPER DELISH. Crunchy, small, awesome!!! they also have the dried ika (which totally stinks up the place and your breath) but who cares, it's yummy! Their salmon sashimi melts in your mouth.... that is awesome too! The food is really good. Never had bad food from here at all. The wait staff is funny, cool, and they will come to you when they can; not really short staffed, it's a small place and even if it's crowded, they will come to you eventually.

Not fancy, but good comfort food. Neighborhood bar and restaurant - think Honolulu "Cheers" - not the fancy one in Boston, but a place where the regulars hang and talk. Don't be put off by the Aamco parking lot. Inside is just a nice small bar and several tables, plus the traditional pool table. The steak is very good, and comes island-style - chopped and cooked with mushrooms and onions. You eat it with chopsticks, which is a bit of surprise for us mainlanders. (Forks are available.)

My friends and I go to 8 fats every now and then and some nights its happening. Food is good, people are friendly, and good karaoke. For a dive bar you cant ask for anything more and it's at 8 fats is where its at. The only reason why I didn't give this bar a 5 star, its because this bar is a DUI trap. I seen a lot of people getting pulled over and cop cars coming out of the dark to entrap the people who come out of the bar. Just take caution usually at the end of the month.

I don't even know where to start, so lets start with the bad and work our way to the good. So first of all i paid $15 for one coca cola because they don't give free refills on soft drinks to the DD! Even though i asked if it was free refills she said yes! WTF! like serious! $15!! then once it hit 1:45 AM they literally pushed us out of the bar, and told the regulars they can stay, hang out, drink and sing. Once we stepped out the doors they locked up turned off the outside lights! WTF! So not cool! Were all customers, i mean its nice that you cater to your regular, but we were ready to keep drinking and singing. But don't get me wrong the food ways okay and reasonable priced, and the people were oooooookay. Personally i won't be going back anytime soon. 15 DOLLARS FOR COKE! RIDICULOUS !

Great food. Dishes I have never heard before. Besides that - try the 8fatfat8 edamame(only if you like garlic). Really Ono!!! The place itself is a little bit too cooooooool. Ac is cooling down the place. Keeps beer cold but food gets cold fast too. I like the place a lot!

Karaoke. Come with friends, but don't expect high class. That's probably the best thing about this place. Lots of regulars, but you can have decently priced drinks while belting out the regular karaoke picks. Street parking only if you go early. Additional parking is available after hours. Also, the place is pretty small, so if you plan on having a group, call ahead to reserve a table or two. I can't remember exactly what I ordered, but there was good Hawaii bar food.

Very local 'dive bar' kinda place. Food is good and not too pricey. We had garlic fries and fried chicken gizzards.. So yummy. drinks was fairly priced. Great bartender service. We got to sing Karaoke $1 per song. I would chill here if you wanna just drink and chill with close friends. The place is kinda run down with really old furniture and tight corners and broken door in bathroom.

BEST Local Dive Bar in Honolulu! I was fortunate to have known a local in Honolulu who is friends with the staff here. Otherwise, I never would have even known about this place! Even our cab driver was curious how we knew about it. Great food, inexpensive drinks, and a chill atmosphere. I was shocked at how good some of the people who were singing Karaoke were! They have several dart boards and a pool table. Although, I think they would prefer to get you drunk and make you sing Karaoke. I tried something called Grilled Ika. Best way to describe it is like a sort of "fish bacon". It was really good! I was told that it would "Be a stench to the nose of a mainlander." However, I really liked it...oddly enough. If you're into unique food and a staff who will treat you like family, this is the place for you.

Ahh 8fat. One of my favorite places to go to. If you're looking for a high-class place to hangout at, this ain't it. 8fat is a your neighborhood bar and has lots of regulars. Go early because parking and searing could get limited. Better yet, call ahead and reserve a table if you have a large party. Good drinks, good food, good company. That's 8fat for you.

I love a good dive bar, and 8 Fat Fat 8 is as divey as it gets. Pool table, dart boards, good drink specials ($3 beer special every night), delicious bar food. We had the calamari with vegetables, which were flavored perfectly... and was probably the healthiest dive bar food I've ever had. Except I ruined it by also ordering their french fries.

The first thing my friend said when we found street parking (none in the small parking lot) and walked up to 8 Fat Fat 8 is: "I don't want to die". Indeed, they don't call dive bars dives for nothing and we didn't know what to expect. My response was "the Yelpers all said it was a fun and friendly place, come on" The bar pretty dimly lit, as most bars should be. The chairs were all booth types toward the middle of the bar, made of some kind of plush mouse-colored fabric with lots and lots of stains on them, but they were pretty comfortable. We passed a booth that had a six year old kid in it and my friend immediately relaxed. After he was certain he wouldn't get killed he said "I am the only white guy in here", to which I said "no you are not, there are two other white guys in here". He relaxed again. Our waitress came by after a few minutes and asked us what we wanted. We were not sure, so she said "get the apple beer, its good". The apple beer turned out to be Smirnoff Green Apple. A lot of people occupying the benches were singing karaoke. A nice blend of younger and older folk and the (one) child. The karaoke was pretty loud but it was cool to listen to some of the people who were really good at it. You could tell they were good because the bar patrons would clap at the end. If you sucked, you got no applause. I ordered an Appletini ($6) and it tasted a bit odd, like old brandy in it. Not too bad, but not great. Another waiter came by. He looked like he was from the kitchen, and he wanted to know what we wanted and sat by us. He was very friendly, as was our waitress. We tried to order the Fried Lettuce, but they were out of lettuce. We ordered the Fried Noodles ($8.00) and the Onion Rings ($7.00). While we were waiting the waiter/kitchen cook brought us a small dish of salted peanuts, which was a nice touch. The Onion rings were very good, hot and greasy. Nice portions. The Fried Noodles were %$##@ salty, but my friend didn't think so. In this case, he wins, because I rarely salt my food and I don't eat out much. The noodles were very good, they were thin Hong Kong style noodles. I ordered a Bloody Mary for my next drink ($5) and it tasted funky, like really spicy generic tomato flavored mix. What do you expect from a dive bar? I'd stick with the bottled drinks next time I come back. Total bill without tip came out to about $34.00 for the both of us. We ended up taking home the food as the portions were large. In a nutshell here's my rating for this friendly dive bar: PARKING: ** ATMOSPHERE: *** FOOD: *** MIXED DRINKS: ** SERVICE: ***** Seriously, I had better service at this dive bar than I have in most fancy establishments! I would have given this place a solid THREE if it were not for the friendly, attentive staff!!

It looks run down inside and that may give new patrons a misconception of it (I know I did) especially for those looking for an upscale environment. I'm going to give it 4 stars. Food: I always leave feeling more than content. Some of my favorites: gau gee, salt & pepper pork chops, and the cake noodle. My friends love their chicken.... Drinks: they have cheap-reasonably priced drinks. There are standard daily specials as well. If you are into exotic beers, they have a decent range of foreign/exotic beers. Darts, pool table, and karaoke. You can enjoy yourself here. Decent parking in the Midas parking lot and lots of street parking along Beretania. I always enjoy coming here when I do.... Mahalo!

Wanna know where the awesome singers of Oahu are? Right here. No. Seriously. Ok. Once there was a bad one, but just that once. It looks a lil divey, but just the way I like it. There are dart boards and a pool table. French fries are probably frozen kind, but for some darn reason they are amaze-balls!! Then when youre tipsy they're triple amaze-balls!!! Bartenders are cool as hell! Everyone knows everyone. For a good time, great singers, fries, and drinks. .... Get off your butt and get down here. Make a friend. But if u can't sing, please don't try. You'll hurt my ears :(

This is a very nice, friendly, local, neighborhood bar. My wife and I were made to feel welcome from the fist time we came. I love to sit at a bar and just casually shoot the shot with other folks; this is the place for that. Almost overtime I've been in the place, I strike up a conversation with someone. Both staff and customers and friendly; the food is good and there is a drink special everyday. Say hey if you see me in the bar, I'll buy you a shot.

Crispy Gau Gee, Lup Chong Fried Rice was great for the late dinner... Steak & Onions was good, but could be better... But overall, very chill place!!! Fun environment...

The atmosphere pretty good with local people and food. The only problem my party had with the place and sorry to say that it will prevent us for going there again is the bartender/ waiter. Really rude and making comments about tipping him. We all have to go to the bar to get our drinks. From the start he was dishing out an attitude like we were bothering him and from what we learned our party occupied the majority if his tables. We has to ask the other waitresses to help us through most of the night. This place is great and we would recommend this place to everyone but all it takes is one really rotten apple to ruin this place name.

Lovely little dive bar that offers darts, karaoke, pool, good grindz, cheap drinks, a fantastic rotating beer selection (see the table toppers), and karaoke by the buck. I try to make it here once a week for what we've dubbed 8 Fat Tuesdays. Just a time to get together and talk story, listen to singers, and eat some local style 'soul food' with friends. Every day has a different shot and beer special - so find the day you like and make sure to get there on the regular. It's a great gathering place for large parties to catch up as well, with plenty of seating if you can make it early enough. The waitresses are very friendly and attentive - bringing salty snacks around if they see you haven't ordered food. Not to be missed is the 8 Fat special chicken in all of it's crispy skinned glory. Come by and check it out, you're bound to have a good time. It's a great local style greasy spoon, one that I will definitely be coming back to for as long as I'm on the rock.

I'd prefer this dive bar over some others. The tables are sticky and the servers are moody, but the food is usually good and the drinks are strong. If you like to sing karaoke, plan on waiting a while... or a few hours. Theres always a lot of songs ahead of yours and yours may never come up before closing.

This place is great. They can accommodate a bigger group (had several birthday parties here). There are daily drink specials and the food is very good.

Is this a dive bar?? I've seen gastropubs and actual restaurants that don't even compare to this place. I randomly walked into this spot suggested by a friend for some great food and was a little put off when I saw the outside, but damn this place has some great food and friendly people. There is honestly no way you could expected the great tasting food and cruise atmosphere created by this place, just by looking at it while passing it on the street. Go in, experience it and enjoy. This is definitely a spot that I will be returning to in the very near future!

This is my new favorite bar in the world. It's a divey joint with really friendly servers and everything I could want in a bar: good food, drink specials, karaoke, pool table, and hella darts. I'm grateful to my hosts and their local friends for introducing me to 8 Fat Fat 8, I'll be back for sure!

Everybody needs a bar where you can go and you don't have to order your drink because the bartender knows what you drink. 8 fats is that place for me. I've been coming here for years. I used to live around the corner which was way too convenient! The food is great - the 8 fat chicken and soybeans are delicious. And there are lots of other random surprises on the menu - everything from fried lettuce (don't knock it until you try it) and escargot. I've been here for parties, for Christmas Eve dinner with my family (seriously), and pau hana - and never been disappointed.

Yelp 31 Challenge: 2/31 Super divey little joint...Old school bar feel with lots of Karaoke on a Saturday night. Rule is that if you walk in, you must sing. I dont sing...and after much pleading they let me slide. I stopped in with a couple of my girlies on a night of bar hopping. This was spot number 3 for Mind Erasers. LOL Since they didnt have Raspberry Vodka, they hooked it up with Blueberry and that was a very pleasing combination. Willy was a doll and hooked us up with a round of drinks on the house! It's close enough to walk to from home so who knows...we may stumble in there again!

Must Order: Salt & Pepper Shrimp, Pan Fried Pork Chops, Fried Lettuce The other day we decided to try out 8 Fat Fat 8. We were actually looking for red snapper that wasn't at a Thai restaurant and Yelp pulled up 8 Fat Fat 8. After reading some of the reviews on their pork chops an chow fun we decided to give it a shot. It was just walking distance from our place and I've been there a couple times before but never had the food. People list 8 Fat Fat 8 as a "dive bar" and I didn't quite see it that way. Sure, the booths have stains on them but it reminded me more of a local Hawaii bar. My mom had previously owned Mikado next to Side Street Inn years ago with people coming for her Vietnamese spring rolls. After she sold her bar, 8 Fat Fat 8 was the hangout that her friends ended up going to and seemingly of recent, a younger crowd has also started to frequent the place. Anyway, back to the important stuff... the food. So alas, we get there and there isn't red snapper! Not a big deal since we see that Salt & Pepper Shrimp was the Saturday night special and when I'm craving salty food, Salt & Pepper Shrimp hits the spot! After some debating, we ended up with Salt & Pepper Shrimp, pan-fried pork chops, and fried noodles. I really wanted to try the fried lettuce but I got vetoed on that one. :-( Coedo Beniaka Beer First up was my boyfriend's beer. He wanted to try something different and this beer was a sweet potato based beer from Japan. At $9 it's a bit of a commitment but when I tried it, it was pretty good and I rarely drink alcohol let alone beer! He liked it as well and it was a very nice compliment to the salty foods we were having. Salt & Pepper Shrimp The Salt & Pepper shrimp came out and we were excited. I LOVE Salt & Pepper shrimp and we love it at Fatty's where they call it the Szechuan shrimp. 8 Fat Fat 8 beat out Fatty's. The shrimp was crispy and jam packed with good flavors. They have more garlic than Fatty's does which is probably why we liked it more. You get whacked with the flavors in your mouth and even if I was in a desert with no water, I could imagine myself salivating over the thought of eating this. It was so good, I ate the whole shrimp--head, tail & all! Hey, I am Asian! Pan-Fried Pork Chops When we ordered the pork chops, the waitress, Deborah, asked us pan-fried or salt & pepper. We asked her which one she liked and she said the pan-fried, so we gave that one a try. The flavors are very good with a lot of the pork fat making the pork chops very juicy. I imagine it was fried in a pan dedicated to just pork chops with years of flavor caked into the pan. The flavors were very good but we also want to try the salt & pepper one for comparison. Fried Noodles The fried noodles were great and they weren't the slightly thicker local style noodles but in the Hong Kong style thin noodles which we love. It was very good albeit a bit salty but then again we are at a bar and things tend to be saltier at bars. Verdict: We wished we tried this place sooner! The people there were awesome and with my boyfriend being the all-American Gap guy, we don't worry about any territorial locals. It's a laid-back environment great for chillin' and hanging out with friends. With it's onolicious local bar food and close proximity to our place, we're definitely planning on being regulars here. We've already planned out our visits based on their pupu specials-- Tuesdays- Salt & Pepper Pork Chops, Wednesdays- Beef Chow Fun & Saturdays- Salt & Pepper Shrimp. I hope to see you guys there too!

This place never fails me. Karaoke, good food, darts, good parking, good seating, not overly crowded, cheap drinks, friendly service. Favorite dishes: Garlic edamame, fried pork chops, salt/pepper chopped chicken and fried rice Inside, there's a good blend of people from all age groups. Karaoke is open mic, so be prepared to sing in front of everybody. $1 per song. Also, there's about 5 dart boards costing 50 cents per person per game. To the side, theres a pool table costing 1 dollar per game. There's drink specials everyday costing 3.50 per drink. On the walls, TVs everywhere. This is definitely one of my favorite spots to hit up on Oahu to hang out and drink without all of the craziness of crowded bars. I'm slowly becoming a regular here.

8 Fat Fat 8 is "homely". It's a very small bar and can usually be quite crowded on weekends, but it just feels kinda cozy. It's also a open karaoke lounge bar (which I usually dislike), but every time I've been here the singers have been pretty good so I don't mind the singing. There are also four dart boards, however since it is really close to one of the tables it can be a bit crowded in that area. There are daily drink specials and the food is quite good, we had ordered the Ika, Fat Fat special chicken, some green veggies, and lup cheong fried rice. All of the dishes were really really good. Located on Beretania, not the hardest place to find, but I did drive by it the first time and had to turn around. There is a small parking lot to the left of the bar, but I've never had a problem finding street parking. Would I go back? Yes. Some may be put off by the size and the atmosphere the first time, but this place really grows on you. Not the most trendiest place (okay, not a trendy place), but a place to just wear some shorts and slippers, kick back and relax.

Dive bar, and just my speed! I love love love this bar. There is always parking in the lot or street parking nearby. The waitstaff/bartenders/owner are all super nice and friendly. After coming here a few times, I'm now greeted by name and with kisses and hugs. The food is so good. Cheesy fries, grilled squid, fat fat soy beans, fried lettuce, fat fat chicken... everything I've tried has always been delicious. The bar has all kinds of beers and do all the hard stuff too. There's karaoke, big screen TVs, a pool table, dart boards, video games, and a juke box, so there's always something for everyone. My only complaints are 1) the karaoke is too loud! hard to talk. 2) the women's bathroom is just one stall. Wouldn't be too bad if women didn't spend so much damn time looking at themselves. The bar should consider separating the toilet from the primping area. My bladder would be much happier. Will I go there again? You bet! I'm a regular for life!!!

8Fat is a great place to relax and hangout by yourself or with friends, the food is yummy! I especially like either their bambucha boil peanuts or their crispy gay gee. The karaoke song selection could be a little more updated but other than that the workers are great and many ended up being friends of mine outside of the bar.

Here's the gist of 8 Fat Fat 8: It's hidden, it's divey, it's not a place for high tea or hipster art shows. You go there, you sit down, and you shove your face with food and beer. Normally, I am all about sitting down and shoving my face with things that don't make me the butt of some obvious sex joke, but I just wasn't feeling the hype that I'd heard from this place. First off, the seats that we took were so close to the pool table, I had to get into action hero mode a couple of times and push my friend to the side in order to avoid a head on "cue-lission". That kind of gets old after the 3rd or 40th round. Second, their service wasn't the best. I wasn't expecting to be pampered at a dive bar, but when we ask for the tab, can you, you know ... get it? We were sitting there for the longest time and I kind of got this feeling that the waitress forgot about it. Pretty average rating as far as attitude is concerned. There's only one cook from what I understand, so don't expect your food to come out in a flash. Lastly (and most importantly) their food was alright. I liked their fried rice a lot but the chicken left something to be desired. If their food was amazing, I could ignore the other stuff, but I just didn't think their menu was anything special. Personally, I think Home Bar and Grill has way better food, way better service, and still has that greasy divey feel we all like to sink into now and then. Plus, you're guaranteed to come home without a pool cue sticking out of your temple.

Despite the fact that I can never get the name right (I refer to it as 8 Fatty Fat, 88 Fatness, 808 the Fat Cake) my friends know what I mean and have forgiven me for my ignorance. Now I actually can never call it 8 Fat Fat 8, for these other misnomers have grown on me too much. As have their truly delicious chicken wings. Oi. Let me tell you, that is worth a trip in itself. The drinks are just average. But I suppose what you come for are the great happy hour deals and drinks that are different every day of the week. Perhaps also what you come for is the no-nonsense service in which chatting up the waitresses is not going to get you better service nor service with a smile. They're there to serve you on their on watch and so be prepared to either be patient or know what you want right away. At times their drinks aren't the best but at least they come around often to top you off if you're unsatisfied. They actually (surprisingly) make a good margarita. A nice little touch is that they offer free peanuts. The chicken wings are the most succulent thing you could ever want. I truly cry for the vegetarians of the world. They're so moist, crispy, and HUGE. And you get an entire plate of them, I think about eight or ten. Lucky tummy. If you only want to go there for one night, make sure to do it on chicken night when they're on the happy hour menu and half-priced (I think it may be Tuesday night). You can sing karaoke though it may take you forever to get your song to play. But they have a huge selection. The talent rums the gamut from average to awesome--but I've usually only heard really awesome singers there. Like singers with soul. Like the lost members of the Delfonics. Great neighborhood joint with PARKING! A must try in the dive category.

8 Fat Fat 8 is one of those local bars that doesn't try to be something it isn't. It is unpretentious and simple with good drinks and food! It's prices are affordable and the service is top notch. The drinks are well poured and at decent prices. The food is good and the pork chops and roast chicken were fantastic. The pork chops were well seasoned and gave me the flavors of roast pork without the heavy fat and grease. The chicken was cooked well, moist and full of flavor. There is a karaoke setup, pool table and some dart boards which make it a great chill spot!

8 Fat is one of my favorite places to go after 10pm. The menu is typical Chinese/Bar food, which is freaking awesome!!!! Food/Drinks: Raspberry beer is a must try and their drinks are pretty well priced! The food is omfg delicious, I love foods that are deep fried. You only go around the world once so you might as well eat what makes you happy!! Service: All women....Yeah, all women.... Very friendly and always able to have a good conversation with them about what's going down in the neighborhood. Overall: What can I say that I haven't covered. Looks can be deceiving come down and try it out for yourself!

I like dive bars in general and 8 Fat Fat 8 is a pretty good one. I'm new to the neighborhood, and wanted to get to know the chill dive bars I can frequent for a low key night out. The bartenders and servers were nice and helpful (I'm starting to get used to establishments not rushing to help you as soon as you walk in the door). I like the drink specials because I'm a beer fan, and the drinks there on par with any bar. I love karaoke so that was a plus. Liked the fact that the pool table wasn't super crowded so my roommate and I got to play a game, and there are plenty of dart machines. We didn't try any of the pupus, but judging by the tables and the way they were coming out the kitchen they must be good. Its a small place, but seems friendly enough. You can tell its a very local place, but not discriminatory. I'll definitely be back.

I kinda love this place. I wasn't so sure at first when I walked in and saw everything upholstered (um, spilled drinks...helloooo) and the servers were a little off top...But the prices are pretty decent for both beers and wells (but a soda shouldn't cost the same as a well!) and the pupus are delicious! It's a really friendly place and I go here often with my coworkers who all just love it and the $1 karaoke songs! I was worried when I moved here I wouldn't have a local neighbourhood bar, well I found it at 8 Fat Fat 8!

I swear I wrote a review about this place already.... In any case, 8 fat is one of my favorite places to go after 10pm. The menu is typical Chinese/Bar food, which is awesome when all you want to eat is salty, crispy fried food after a long night at work. The drink menu is extensive, there's a couple of drinks on there that you can't find anywhere else( the raspberry beer). Service is always pretty sharp, haven't gotten anything bad service yet. Details below. Food: -Crispy gau gee, delicious with beer. -Fried lettuce, it's...interesting. -Onion rings, crispy, onion-y, delicious. -Boiled peanuts, GIANT PEANUTS!!! -Honey roasted peanuts, complimentary. -There were some other dishes we ate, but you know how that goes...too much drinky, can't remember. Drinks: -Frambarge(??) It's the raspberry beer. Sweet, crisp, it tastes like soda. -They have drink specials every night. -All their other drinks can be found at any other bar. Service: -All women....I think. -Very friendly, helpful and nice ladies. -One of them is super hyper, she's our favorite. Overall: -Good food -Cheap drinks -Karaoke, if that's your thing -Open til 2 Like I said before, my favorite place to come after 10pm.

This goes in the category of "dive bar". Smallish, a bit dark, a bit dirty, but got some good food. Food is mostly chinese influence/tasting. Can't go wrong with the special chicken and a side of salt. It's yummy and pretty decent for $10. Also a go is fried lettuce which is what all vegetables should be, sauteed in butter and garlic. Just because it's main ingredient is lettuce, it's not a salad! Other tasty things i've had there is gau gee, fried rice, escargot. Drinks are a decent price, $3.50 is the regular price for domestics, $0.50 off during happy hour. Not a big place, so if it's crowded you'll probably have to go somewhere else, hit it up early for after work drinks and some food, it's worth it...plus if you're a fan, you may run into Bruno Mars once in awhile. He can sing his own songs on karaoke, kind of cool actually.

Come here once in a while for a Guinness or a Boddingtons whenever my friend is in town visiting. They have beer and shot specials for every day of the week. Must haves every time we visit are; Fat Fat chicken and their chopped steak with onions. Their Fat Fat chicken is consistently absolutely delicious, always tender, always juicy, and the skin always as a light crisp. There's a few dart boards, a single pool table and karaoke. Service is mediocre, there's a waitress there who constantly forgets to put in your order and she's hard to get a hold of to order anything. When their kitchen is closed they offer chips and planters dry roasted peanuts. There's a couple of "emergency" food items on their menu that they can make or prepare when the kitchen is closed. If you can't find street parking, park in the Midas parking lot right next door. I Highly recommend their Fat Fat chicken.

so call me old school, and a dive bar regular, but i LOVE 8 fat fat 8! no waiting in lines for a drink, and the food is quite tasty here! we actually went on a sunday. im on vacation, so i can do that sort of thing. drinking copious amounts of booze on sundays that is. this place is actually so popular that it was pretty damn busy, even for a sunday! i mean my friend and i were sitting around and thinking. could all these people be on vacation too, OR has 8 fat fat 8 has once again lured victims into its drunken happy atmosphere and enticed them with loud karaoke music and an intriguing menu?? if you fall victim to 8 fat fat 8's mysterious powers you must try the rib eye steak with onions and mushrooms! i think its grilled perfectly, and the sauces are so delicious and flavorful and its right off the grill so its still steaming with warmth and smells soooo amazing! the fried lettuce is also another must try. the mix of sauces, seasonings and its crunchy texture make it that great crispy snack to pair with while drinking, and how can you feel so bad?? AFTERALL, its fried lettuce! so it maybe a bit contradictory after your twelth beer, but hey, its better then snacking away at a box of krispy kremes! great place to go one the weekends. fill up your karaoke lists quickly becuase EVERYONE here wants to be the next american idol! be aware it does get a little crazy with drunken karaokeers? karaokers? once in a while. but i think thats what gives the place such a relaxed care free feeling.

Amazing local feel for a bar. I absolutely love their crispy gau gee, so much meat. Greats drink specials too! Forget waiting for happy hour! $3.50 specials every day all day! They have pool and darts along with Karoke! If you want a place you can actually talk to your friends then this is the place. If you're trying to pick up on girls, then this isn't your place. Depends what you want. But I love it for the chill atmosphere!

My friendly dive bar! From the outside 8 Fat Fat 8 looks kind of shady, but it's so not! A dive bar, yes. Definitely. But, friendly service and great food make it a place to frequent, though I'm going to try to limit myself to only once in a blue moon, otherwise I think I'd become morbidly obese. If you're a Side Street fan, you're probably a 8 Fat Fat 8 fan. The difference is that you're likely to leave 8 Fat Fat 8 with some money in your wallet as prices are more reasonable and food is delicious, but with an obvious Chinese fair. A few favorites are the crispy gau gee, fried pork chops, cake noodles, and the chicken. I hear their fried lettuce is amazing and I can't wait to try it! Ok, geez, I just realized everything I just cited is fried or deep fried, but hey, it's bar food and delicious at that! The bar is on the smaller side and it does fill up quickly, so it's best to come a little early if you can. Parking's in the lot just before the bar. Yum!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
